Houston and Texas cases of COVID-19 exploding (Including my brother) and Pres Bone Spurs doesn’t want to test? Lots of restaurants and businesses are closing again due to employees testing positive. This ended just like we thought it would. Harris County may have to close again. Total blame laid on Pres Bone Spurs and his idiot supporters for allowing him to lead them to this end. I also blame business leaders who should have been all insisted he act responsibly. He’s so incompetent he’s messed up reopening and prolonged our economic pain.

the last thread is paywalled so I'm just posting here
anyone see the clips on tv today of the very angry deplorables in West Palm Beach SCREAMING at the city council at a hearing after they ruled everyone must wear masks in public? It was truly bizarre. I really hate deplorables. I know it takes a lot of energy to hate but I can't help it. They have ruined and are continuing to ruin this country beyond belief with their combination of ignorance and arrogance

I have to say I think Nadler is very weak and ineffective. Why give Barr until July 28th to come before the House? He should have been given 2 weeks max
why the fuck won't they just pull funding to the DOJ if Barr continues to refuse to testify and play games? Just pull the money already.
You know for a fact if we had a rogue Democratic executive branch and a repub controlled House, they would have already pulled the funding for much less severe behavior

I really wish Judge Sullivan WOULD DISMISS FLYNNS CASE...WITHOUT PREJUDICE. Then Flynn can be charged with every damn crime he...and his son...committed and they can both spend the rest of their lives in prison. Talk about backfiring in ones faces. In case others didn’t see my post in the other thread about my brother who tested positive for Covid-19- he’s extremely irresponsible. Huge heart but has always been irresponsible. He willingly put his kids in jeopardy because he was tired of being cooped up. We are waiting on their test results. We warned him over and over but he’s stubborn and dense. He’s also proudly apolitical. I’m thankful my parents declined his visit after he went to a party with his kids on Memorial weekend. I’ve not spoken to him since for being so irresponsible with not only his life but also his young children. Texas is now feeling the affects in a huge way. Even our dumbass Gov is shook. Though one call from the WH and he’ll be singing a different tune tomorrow. Meanwhile we all suffer and will continue to. Elect competent people to office who care about you.

Buffalo Barr plans for the late summer to indict a bunch of Obama-era officials and federal investigators for the declared "hoax" Russian investigation. He'll try to name Democratic politicians, i.e. HRC, Obama, Biden & son, Susan Rice, etc. It is all vindictiveness, shallow and non-existing evidence, manufactured accusations, and conjecture. It'll be a desperate effort to deflect and try to get corrupt Trump re-elected. Fox and OAN will be championing Barr's antics. Mainstream media will expose the motive.
Pelosi and company have to know this. Agree, Pelosi has an ace in her pocket. It may be why the House is slow-walking the scrutiny of Barr.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 25, 2020 6:01 PM |
Just to add at my post at r64, the court usually releases decisions on Monday’s and Thursday’s, I think. In any case, This decision might be announced after the stock market closes, since I think it will have an effect. But I’m just guessing...anyone who knows more want to chime in?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 25, 2020 6:03 PM |
My guess is that Barr is running an internal investigation of the Bridgegate prosecution. If there's any evidence of wrong-doing, they'll release that information first to lay the foundation for arguing that Obama/Biden misused the office for political purposes. Then they'll start repeating all of the Flynn/Russia bullshit, arguing that Trump was also targeted for political purposes. The public won't take the time to parse out what is legitimate and what is bullshit. The objective is to gin up the base, and to suppress independents by convincing them that both sides are the same. The problem for Barr is that Trump fucks up everything he touches, so he will inevitably fuck up this plan as well.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 25, 2020 6:15 PM |
well if that happens, the media needs to remind the public that Barr is really just acting as Trump's attack dog rather than a proper AG

by Anonymous | reply 71 | June 25, 2020 9:01 PM |
The Bolton interview was infuriating. He was being a political hack as always. He wanted to bash Democrats as much as possible when he could have provided more damning evidence in the House but "I don't march to Pelosi's drum" is what he said
he blamed Democrats for "not working with repubs" during impeachment as if repubs would have voted against Trump anyway.

Explain THIS away, Sean Hannity.
WASHINGTON — American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan — including targeting American troops — amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there, according to officials briefed on the matter.
The United States concluded months ago that the Russian unit, which has been linked to assassination attempts and other covert operations in Europe intended to destabilize the West or take revenge on turncoats, had covertly offered rewards for successful attacks last year.
Islamist militants, or armed criminal elements closely associated with them, are believed to have collected some bounty money, the officials said. Twenty Americans were killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2019, but it was not clear which killings were under suspicion.

Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, George Conway, Tim Miller (political consultant), Evan McMullin, Bill Kristol, etc. want Trump gone and want Biden to defeat him. That's the only way they see to begin rebuilding the Republican party on prior principles and practices.
They are not sudden Democrats, don't agree with much of the Democrats' policy agenda, and won't be long-term allies with Democrats. However, they detest the Teaparty and the fanatical Trumpsters such as Gym Jordan, Gohmert, Gaetz, Biggs, etc. So they know the GOP without Trump isn't cleansed.
The never Trump GOPers include neocon types, globalists, pro-big business, country club class, elitists, intellectual & policy think tanks, pro-immigration for cheaper labor and more consumers, etc.
Comparatively, they are more moderate on social issues such as LGBT rights and abortion rights. They are not tight with the party's extreme Christian fundamentalists.
The uneasy coalition of the party's white collar wing and religious fundamentalists has lasted since Reagan. But it is very fragile and Trump has exasperated it.

I think they will also go back to the more cordial agree to disagree instead of lies and demonization. They want the current brand of the party destroyed.

the problem though is most of the voters still in the repub party are Trump fans. So the never-Trumpers are kind of on an island by themselves. They are enjoying being embraced by mainstream media and their viewers but they're not liberals. I don't see how the repub party can be rebuilt if the base of the party is now mostly over 50 white hetero "christians" who just thrive on fear and hate

The cable media will dwell essentially on one topic at a time. They have now shifted back to COVID-19 after weeks of focusing almost totally on the protests. Anchors and commentators change each hour or so, but the topic and messaging largely doesn't.
International news gets overlooked. Many worthy domestic stories that don't pertain to the topic at hand, are ignored or buried.
Now I watch more BBC. They cover U.S. news and weather, and what's happening in other countries has coverage.

There was a time, decades back, certain points of view were embraced by establishment Republicans and political conservatives.
*. Conservation. Promoting national parks. Wildlife refuges.
*. Opposition to excessive spending. (Reagan destroyed that thinking). Accountability in spending.
*. Opposing dictatorships
*. Majority didn't resist civil rights legislation.
*. Supported regulations to promoted small businesses development.
*. Supported certain regulations in banking for consideration mer protection.
*. We're open to the idea of National Health Insurance. Nixon proposed this, Ted Kennedy sabotoged it because it wasn't his legislation and didn't go far enough. The country could have had bipartisan NHI back in the early 70s; maybe prior.
*. Generally supportive of immigration.
*. Didn't see church and state as the same.
*. Republicans would compromise on legislation with Democrats. They would collaborate and have conference committees to iron out differences to find a majority consensus. The Mitch McConnell shit of party over everything else didn't dominate. Controversial legislation was brought to the floor, even when the party of the majority largely opposed it. Votes were not near strictly by party identity.
*. Judges and executive appointments were approved more based on experience, education, personal character, and accomplishments; and a bit less so political ideology and party affiliation and activism.
All that is gone.
That said, Democrats also became more partisan and pressed members to tow the party line. LBJ knew the Democratic party in the south would be the minority party moving forward.
It is Trump and his cohorts that have vilified and punished Republicans that dared to disagree with Trump on anything. The Republicans function as a cult. Mitch McConnell, more than any other single individual, has perpetuated this to the most extreme level. *.

Washington Post - In the hours before his rally in Tulsa, President Trump’s campaign directed the removal of thousands of “Do Not Sit Here, Please!” stickers from seats in the arena that were intended to establish social distance between rallygoers, according to video and photos obtained by The Washington Post and a person familiar with the event.
The removal contradicted instructions from the management of the BOK Center, the 19,000-seat arena in downtown Tulsa where Trump held his rally on June 20. At the time, coronavirus cases were rising sharply in Tulsa County, and Trump faced intense criticism for convening a large crowd for an indoor political rally, his first such event since the start of the pandemic.
As part of its safety plan, arena management had purchased 12,000 do-not-sit stickers for Trump’s rally, intended to keep people apart by leaving open seats between attendees. On the day of the rally, event staff had already affixed them on nearly every other seat in the arena when Trump’s campaign told event management to stop and then began removing the stickers, hours before the president’s arrival, according to a person familiar with the event.

Trump Nears Post-Nixon First: No Black Circuit Judges
Donald Trump is on track to be the first president since Richard Nixon to go a full first term without selecting a Black nominee for a federal appeals court.
Just one of Trump’s 53 confirmed appeals court judges is Hispanic and none are Black. That compares to about 27% of President Barack Obama’s and roughly 15% under President George W. Bush, according to a Bloomberg Law analysis of Federal Judicial Center data.
Trump, however, has exceeded both of his immediate predecessors in the percentage of Asian American appointees to federal appeals courts, which explains why about 15% of his appellate appointments have been people of color, compared to roughly 35% under Obama and 15% under Bush.
The figures for Obama and Bush, a Democrat and Republican, respectively, cover their two terms in office. But Trump has appointed nearly as many judges to the appellate courts with his first term not yet complete as they did overall. Every president since Nixon, who took office in 1969, appointed a Black appeals court judge in their first four years save Gerald Ford, who served a partial term, and Trump.

Breaking news from CNN... I think this is part of the campaign to get Dump out of there. This stuff that’s leaking is not a coincidence. Here’s the beginning of the story since we know links to CNN don’t work:
(CNN) - In hundreds of highly classified phone calls with foreign heads of state, President Donald Trump was so consistently unprepared for discussion of serious issues, so often outplayed in his conversations with powerful leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and so abusive to leaders of America's principal allies, that the calls helped convince some senior US officials -- including his former secretaries of state and defense, two national security advisers and his longest-serving chief of staff -- that the President himself posed a danger to the national security of the United States, according to White House and intelligence officials intimately familiar with the contents of the conversations.

This is the story that Fox is telling him and he believes everything he sees on Fox.
On a different note, he is hearing impaired and needs to put captions on for every channel, except Fox. Fox is loud enough that he can hear fine. I don't know if it's just his TV or something that Fox is doing to make sure the elderly can hear every word.

Fox is beginning to try to put some air between themselves and Trump. Tucker Carlson did a rant about how the Democrats and Republicans have both ignored the middle class. I'll be curious to see if this talking point is repeated in the next few weeks - if so, then we know how the GOP is going to rebrand itself in the face of a blue tsunami. And how they're going to distance themselves from Trump - he was too busy tweeting stupid stuff instead of dealing with middle class issues.

by Anonymous | reply 267 | July 1, 2020 1:46 PM |
I think it's just Tucker going off the Fox reservation. Hannity and Ingraham are still all in for Trump. (Ingraham yesterday suggested Fauci was working for the Biden campaign.) I think Tucker may be angling for a presidential run himself. He has the highest rated show on the network but advertisers continue to desert him. That's not sustainable long term.
CNN's Oliver Darcy reports on last night's show:
Tucker Carlson says Republicans "pretend" to be "champion" of middle-class, but "they are not." He says GOP has only offered "steady diet" of "partisan junk food," like Benghazi hearings. Argues more important to work on things like "saving American jobs from foreign nationals."
Tucker Carlson adds, "We fall for it every time. And to the extent this show has participated in it, we apologize with deepest sincerity."

[bold]Trump in ‘fragile’ mood and may drop out of 2020 race if poll numbers don’t improve, GOP insiders tell Fox News[/bold]
Donald Trump may drop out of the 2020 presidential race if he believes he has no chance of winning, a Republican Party operative reportedly told Fox News.
The claim comes in a report in the president’s favourite news outlet that cites a number of GOP insiders who are concerned about Mr Trump’s re-election prospects amid abysmal polling numbers.
Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, currently holds an average lead of nine points over the incumbent, according to a tracker of 2020 polls by RealClearPolitics.
Crucially, Mr Trump has lost support from older white voters — typically a bedrock of support for the Republican Party and a group that was crucial to his narrow 2016 victory. Mr Trump is also trailing the former vice president in almost all the swing states.
“It’s too early, but if the polls continue to worsen, you can see a scenario where he drops out,” one anonymous GOP operative told Fox News.
Charles Gasparino, the author of the Fox News report, said in a series of tweets that he had spoken to “major players” in the Republican party for the story. One of them described Mr Trump’s mood as “fragile” as his chances of a second-term looked increasingly dim.
Another of the GOP sources cited in the report said of the likelihood that Mr Trump will drop out: “I’ve heard the talk but I doubt it’s true. My bet is, he drops if he believes there’s no way to win.”
Mr Trump has repeatedly hit out at polling that shows him far behind Mr Biden. Last month, he tweeted that Fox News “should fire their Fake Pollster. Never had a good Fox Poll!”
On Monday, he tweeted: "Sorry to inform the Do Nothing Democrats, but I am getting VERY GOOD internal Polling Numbers. Just like 2016, the @nytimes Polls are Fake! The @FoxNews Polls are a JOKE! Do you think they will apologize to me & their subscribers AGAIN when I WIN? People want LAW, ORDER & SAFETY!"
But polls from all polling organisations show Mr Trump consistently behind by similar margins. In particular, they have shown high levels of disapproval over the president’s handling of the coronavirus and mass protests calling for racial justice after the police killing of George Floyd.
A recent Washington Post-Ipsos poll found that 36 per cent of American adults approve of Trump’s handling of the protests, while 62 percent disapprove. A New York Times poll returned similar numbers.
The same New York Times-Siena College poll found 58 per cent of Americans disapprove of his handling of the coronavirus outbreak, while only 38 percent approve — the worst ratings since the crisis began.
The Trump campaign called reports that the president would consider dropping out “the granddaddy of fake news”.
“Everyone knows that media polling has always been wrong about President Trump – they undersample Republicans and don’t screen for likely voters – in order to set false narratives,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told Fox News.
“It won’t work. There was similar fretting in 2016 and if it had been accurate, Hillary Clinton would be in the White House right now.”
by Anonymous | reply 274 | July 1, 2020 4:11 PM |
Trump is caught between a rock and a stupid place. The rock - he's facing a historic loss in the election. The stupid place - Brad Parscale and the other grifters are presumably telling him that the polls are biased, that he can pull it off like he did in 2016.... all the garbage that Trump wants to believe, so his confidence returns and he feels comfortable doubling-down on his bad behavior. He won't resign until his family tells him it's time to resign.

What if McConnell kicks the bucket before November, before he can install another SC Justice?
Who steps in to be Majority Leader? Would they have the sway (or blackmail) over the Chamber that McConnell has?
Would it even matter -that it’s just a given that a Republican majority in the Senate will see to replacing judges before they lose the Senate, no matter who becomes leader? Or does it take a McConnell to pull that off that quickly?
by Anonymous | reply 301 | July 2, 2020 2:07 AM |
R301 - McConnell certainly has made this initiative his one and only pet project for decades. Hard to say, but I would imagine that no one could pull off shoving incompetent judges down America's throat quite like McConnell. One can only assume he was an oral top back in his days of wine and sodomy during his VERY short stint (pre-discharge) in the military. I would give anything to have that shady story brought to light when Dems take back the Presidency and Senate.

This scheme will only backfire. An opportunity to appoint 1 or 2 more conservative judges may energise Trump's base which he already topped out but it will hardly move "independents" which he is leaking rapidly. In fact, it will more energise the left to go to the polls which has been lacking for Hillary and appears to be a small problem for Biden still. In order to win Trump needs to move the independents who are more concerned about COVID, economy, and racial stuff.

by Anonymous | reply 315 | July 2, 2020 2:05 PM |

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is denying Congress access to secret grand jury testimony from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation through the November election.
The justices agreed on Thursday to hear the Trump administration’s appeal of a lower court order for the material to be turned over to the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. The high court’s action will keep the documents out of congressional hands at least until the case is resolved, which is not likely to happen before 2021.
Arguments themselves might not even take place before Americans decide whether to give President Donald Trump a second term.
The delay is a victory for Trump, who also is mounting a Supreme Court fight against congressional efforts to obtain his banking and other financial records. Those cases are expected to be decided in the coming days or weeks.

I want to get some of your opinions oh wise treason thread posters. There’s a lot of talk about schools reopening right now. We know the benefits of students going back and learning in person. No one disputes the benefits. But how is this really going to work? You’re going to send hundreds and thousands of people into a space a small space all at one time. I’m not sure how we can do this safely. What happens when a teacher gets sick and Has to take off a minimum of two weeks? Do they still get paid? What happens when a teacher has the sniffles or allergies and Has to take off get a test and wait for the results to come back? Do they get paid? my ex is a teacher and he said the guy he’s dating has already stated he can’t see him because he’s going to be around super spreaders and he doesn’t want to bring or catch anything and bring it back to his work or catch it himself of course. Teachers are potentially putting themselves and their families at risk. If a student catches it and brings it back to their family and their family members go to work and spread it at their work it just seems like a potential nightmare scenario. Students are not going to socially distance and policing wearing masks in schools going to be a nightmare. Also are there gonna be any substitutes Willing to come into schools in this environment? I just don’t see how this isn’t going to create in absolute super spreading nightmare. Especially in places that are seeing surges in cases. It just seems like this cannot be done safely for anyone involved. My ex says he’s not gonna be able to go out for the entire school year because he does not want to put anyone else in danger in case he is asymptomatic. What do some of you say about this?

Republicans, starting with Reagan, are about low taxes for the wealthy, running up the deficit, borrowing money from China and some places elsewhere, and having the fed print much more money. It always leads to an eventual recession.

Both Clinton and Obama oversaw 200% increases in the stock market and booming economies while giving us surpluses or drastically reduced deficits. Republicans? Reagan, HW and W gave us recessions and the current a depression. None saw rises in the market like Clinton or Obama. Cuban is an asshole. He’s greedy. The rich can’t vacuum up money fast enough.

A lot of Dems are optimistic about the Supreme Court's decision on Trump's taxes because of their last few decisions that leaned in our direction. But those were all issues Trump doesn't personally care about. And any Pro-abortion decision is also in Trump's favor as he can just convince his base to keep him in power so he can appoint more Right-Wing Conservative Judges. R462, that’s MAYBE a bit too cynical. The Court can’t refuse to give Trump more process, because that’s our system’s solution to everything. The House just started too late. Vance will eventually get the documents because his investigation doesn’t depend on Trump being in office.

What's the motive of MSNBC's Kasie Hunt on Morning Joe regularly referencing Lindsey Graham as the principled, moderate Republican?. Graham advocated for pardoning Stone the day before Trump commuted Stone's sentence. Hunt spoke as if Graham was measured in his support of Trump taking such action, because Graham wasn't jumping up and down when he tweeted it.
I believe Graham is giving Hunt gossip in exchange for being mentioned in a positive way.

Looking at the red state of South Carolina, polling shows preference for Trump hanging consistently around 50%. This state will be very difficult for Democrats to flip. Miss Graham in the Senate race is facing a tighter race.
Biden is averaging around 43% presently. Recent polls for Biden have ranged from 42% to 46%. In Georgia and North Carolina, the polling is much tighter with Biden essentially tied or in a very slight lead.
South Carolina COULD end up being the only east coastal state that shows a distinct favoring of Trump.
