Fuck the haters.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as being the first WHO director without a medical degree, also has a somewhat political background compared to his predecessors. On his online biography, the WHO lays out his qualifications as Ethiopian Minister of Health from 2002 to 2012, impressive stuff.
Aside from his medical credentials, Tedros happens to be a member of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) which is an organisation about as peaceful as its name suggests. Founded as a communist revolutionary party that came to power in 1991, it led a guerrilla campaign against the Mengistu dictatorship and formed a coalition with two other ethnic parties after his exile.
Over time, the TPLF began to exert more and more influence over the other two parties. Most military generals and key leaders within the government are Tigray, including the Prime Minister who ruled the country for 21 years before his death. The Tigray represent only 6% of the population of Ethiopia, one of the major ethnic groups are the Amhara who mostly made up the Mengistu regime.

For some perspective, COVID was the third leading cause of death in America today, behind heart disease and cancer. I know that doesn't sound like that big a deal, but from an infectious disease standpoint, that's INSANE. And at some point this week, COVID likely will end up overtaking the other two.

Dr. Becky Scarf, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, warned the hardest hit U.S. hotspots could reach their mortality peaks, simultaneously, in the next week.
“The Detroit area, the New York area, the Louisiana area ... They’re all on the upside of the curve of mortality,” Scarf said at a White House briefing. “By the predictions that are in that healthdata.org, they’re predicting in those three hotspots, all of them hitting together in the next six to seven days.”
New York leads the country in terms of coronavirus cases, with more than 113,000 confirmed cases, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. At least 63,000 of those cases are in the New York City area. Michigan has more than 14,000 confirmed cases of the virus, and Louisiana has more than 12,000.
“What we’re seeing today are the people who were infected two or three weeks ago,” Scarf said. “If mitigation in New York worked, and we believe it is working, the cases are going to start to go down, but the mortality will be a lag behind that because of the co-morbidities and other conditions.”

I learned by email that a guy I used to study with recently left London to wait this out with his family in rural Vermont. He must have taken COVID back with him because he subsequently tested positive for it. Happily seems to be recovering, but this was his verdict on Day 11:
"There were a few days last week that were pretty harrowing, but I'm happy to say I'm feeling better now, although I'm not out of the woods yet: as I'm sure you know, the process is non-linear, there are false recoveries, etc. I'm on day 11, and things can still happen at this later stage. But I've been fever-free for 72 hours now, and with minimal coughing, as opposed to last week. I really hope that none of you get this: it's....unpleasant. It's the breathing - physiologically and psychologically - that's the hardest to deal with. I'm literally on top of a mountain in Vermont, with loving family helping me out, so you couldn't ask for a better place to recover/isolate. "

[Tybee Island] Mayor's Statement on Beaches Reopening
As the Pentagon ordered 100,000 body bags to store the corpses of Americans killed by the Coronavirus, Governor Brian Kemp dictated that Georgia beaches must reopen, and declared any decision makers who refused to follow these orders would face prison and/or fines.
While the beaches have to reopen under the Governor’s order, Tybee will not have beach access and parking lots will remain closed until further notice. It should also be noted that Tybee currently is not properly staffed with Emergency Medical Services and there are no life guards in place. At no time has the state designated a single point of contact to orchestrate the implementation of the Governor’s plan.
Additionally in spite of the serious health situation facing our community and the world, Governor Kemp has rescinded all restrictions put in place by local municipalities since March 1st.
Tybee City Council and I are devastated by the sudden directives and do not support his decisions. The health of our residents, staff and visitors are being put at risk and we will pursue legal avenues to overturn his reckless mandate.

It's not across the entire population. Here’s what’s up in the state of Georgia, or what I now call, George-AHHH!!!
The numbers are so fucked up, it’s not even fathomable that they are doing this.
Currently, about 280-300+ persons are being held in mandatory quarantine in a government building placed on a fairground.
They are not reporting the county. It is a building bordering 2 counties, and they are sending anyone from nearby counties to this building for “testing”.
I’m order to receive a prescription for testing, a suspected CoVid-19 carrier must have a fever that is being monitored hourly, and sustaining at 102 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, for over 8 hours. Once the local hospital, which is the smaller than the parking structure at Cedar Sinai in Beverly Hills/WeHo, determines that you are qualified for the test, they give you a prescription number that is entered into a database. All persons in your household must report their health status, and are subject to quarantine in this facility on the fairgrounds, or are ordered to shelter in place, with both timelines at 14 days
The sick patient is tested, and if the test proves positive, they are treated in an area of the fairgrounds, in makeshift ICU/Triage units. Only when it is assessed by medical staff that the person cannot sustain breathing without intervention, in the patient transferred to this tiny hospital. Once there, the patient is intubated, and no one is allowed inside the building, but essential medical staff. The patients are intubated, and are kept alive with life support systems, hence the number of deaths are not actual or true numbers.
Only essential staff are allowed in the other units for triage/ICU, and the others who are in mandatory onsite quarantine due to possible false-positives, and erratic testing results, are in other buildings, with no contact with anyone other than essential staff. The bathrooms are limited, and the cots are, well, cots. Not the best situation if you are sick, and need sleep, or if you just have a flu with a high fever, that renders you vulnerable to the Covid-19, due to the proximity of others who may actually be sick.

Why are you watching? There's nothing he says at his rallies—I mean press conferences—that you can't learn elsewhere. Giving him your attention and ratings = giving him more power. The first rule of disconnecting from a narcissist/sociopath is to act as if they don't exist.

Continued from post R103
Currently, NOT ONE NEWSPAPER OR LOCAL NEWS CHANNEL, is reporting this, here in Georgia. This is about an hour west of Savannah and Pooler GA, two main port entryways for shipping and exporting.
The fairgrounds are right next to the non reported county, which is a large agricultural area, along with meat and poultry processing plants, which distribute to Walmart, KFC, and that Christian chicken fast food place, which the name of, currently escapes me. Oh, Chick-Fil-A.
Here are the stats (below). I did not believe any of this, until I started digging around, and found corresponding data, based on the information I was receiving from someone who has a contact in the hospital.
2 Large refrigerator trucks are currently docked at the fairgrounds.
All true. No one is discussing this, and apparently, very few people even know. This is about 15-20 minutes away from my home, and I deliberately made my employer terminate me 3 weeks ago, because I had guesstimated that this would not be dealt with in an expedient nor ethical manner, being that 60% of the employees working in these processing plants, are actually prisoners in the Georgia State Corrections prisons throughout various counties, and are forced to work while sick, in some of the most vile working conditions imagined, along with others who are not prisoners, and are free to leave work, pick up their kids from school, go grocery shopping, attend church, etc. Deplorables and working poor, or administrative staff, and security.
No way are these beef and poultry plants closing down, nor are they providing protections to the immigrant workers who pick crops and work the farms, while living in decrepit and unsanitary trailers, packed in with as many as 10 or more migrant farm workers, per trailer. They, too, shop at the local Walmart, etc.
This is fucked. Georgia is ran by a canal of criminals, and I am actually appalled that this isn’t getting any news coverage, because Tyson Farms, or others, have MAJOR pull in these towns, as do universities that have big football teams.
These economies depend on these companies and sports programs at the universities, and everyone is acting as if this is NOT happening, and this is why Kemp and the rest are flat out lying and fudging the numbers.
UPDATE: as of a few minutes ago, the “unknown” cases were 288, and are now 88. Where they are now, is unknown to me, and the people being given the data, I’m sure.

The problem for me now is - where the hell am I supposed to buy a mask?
I had one N95 mask from my last trip to Asia that I gave to my 81 year old mother. I see plenty of people with masks, but I don't know how they got them. Thermometers are also gone. And HAIR CLIPPERS (not trimmers) are all out of stock.

R106, this is happening in many areas throughout the South, from what I am hearing, AND in other states, heading Midwest.
Red states, basically.
The virus will do some slow moving yet significant damage through America’s heartlands within the next several months. Then by October through December, round two and mutation number(s) ___ & ___, will hit the ground running, and we will see another hard hit for a few weeks, affecting the rest of the homeless it didn’t wipe out in round one, more elderly, and perhaps a mutation surprise, that LOVES kids under 10, just in time for Christmas.
Vaccine in by 1st quarter 2021, & at home testing kits in all stores before Halloween 2020.

[quote] It's not across the entire population. It's 4.6 of laboratory-confirmed cases in ~100 counties in the ten IEP-participating states (CA, CO, CT, GA, MD, MN, NM, NY, OR, TN) and the four IHSP-participating states ((IA, MI, OH, and UT), across all age groups, with the caveat that the numbers are skewed due to the availability of testing.
Thank you, but...4.6 out of every 100000 confirmed COVID cases are hospitalized? The numbers for that don’t make sense. Sorry, I’m dense.

China is producing masks again, R109. You might try Alibaba sellers who will ship to the US. I have a shipment of masks on the way from China via FedEx.

R109, I bought my thermometer a couple of weeks ago. Ordered it from Best Buy and it got here within a week. It's one of those Kinsa thermometers that they've been talking about so much on the news lately. I love it. Don't know how many they still have in stock, though.
I agree with you about the masks. I ordered some off of Amazon last week but due to backlog, they're not due to arrive until sometime near the end of April. Like you, walking on the streets and seeing virtually everyone around you wearing one, you have to wonder where the hell they got them so fast.

I have ten N95 mask that I bought after reading the threads on DL earlier this year R109. From what I understand I can prolong their life by wearing a bandanna over them. With shipping those 10 N95 mask cost me around $3.50 each. I'm not looking for a profit, but if someone feels they need a mask I will send it to them at cost plus shipping.

By the lice cream.
Use it on your skin as a thin layer after you get out of the shower, and are dry for at least 20 minutes.
I’m not going to get into my whole theory as to why this will work. Do not consume it orally, or stick it up your ass, or in your eyes.
Use a thin layer on your face, arms, hands, neck, and any area where skin may be exposed, because you must leave your home.
Drink lots of Gatorade and fluids. Do not allow your skin to become dry, thin due to dehydration, sunburned, or crepe like, where you might have tiny, unnoticeable cuts.
If you had MRSA, or staph, discuss protocols with your specialist.
This virus? It gets in the skin. Pores. Beneath hair follicles. Sweat. Dehydrated skin, exposed to cold.
The lice treatment works as a part of a comprehensive preventative measure, and not as a cure, for now.
I’ve been wrong before, but I do not believe that we understand why this is so contagious, with such a long incubation period. My guess? Skin. Our largest organ, and our first line of protection

Right now R177 it is those in blue states that are dying in greater numbers. I posted weeks ago asking why New York City had not one case of the coronavirus. Statistically, unfortunately it is those in blue states that will outnumber the deaths in red states as of right now only because of the population difference.

Then there's the even more toxic ivermectin, which is also used as an insecticide for particularly severe cases of lice and scabies. I picked up crabs traveling in SE Asia (or from the guy I was dating before I left for the trip; probably the latter). None of the usual remedies worked and my doc finally gave me ivermectin. He warned that I needed to be utterly fastidious about laundering clothing and sheets before taking it, as it was so toxic, he may not be able to prescribe again within six months.

The two reporting groups (the Emerging Infections Program and the Influenza Hospitalization Surveillance Project) that provide the cases COVID-NET is using represent around 32 million people, or a little less than 10% of the population.
In any case, until widespread serologic testing is done and we start to get an idea of the scope of asymptomatic and very mild infections, numbers are meaningless.

Just to spell it out: the SARS-CoV-2 virus cannot penetrate the skin so FF and block R118. Our skin is a good barrier against infectious agents.
SARS-CoV-2 most easily infects people via the ACE2 receptors contained in your mucus glands, which are located in your eyes, your nose and your mouth. Your ear canals don't have any mucus glands and are safe.

I’m about to get ready for work, where it’s still been relatively calm, and everyday someone will inevitably make the statement “ This is like the calm before the storm.” Tom Petty got it right when he said the waiting is the hardest part. Some relatively good news for Spain. Of course, it is the weekend so there could also be a lag with some of the reporting
Guardian-Spain’s coronavirus death toll has risen by 674 to 12,418 in the past 24 hours, according to figures which recorded the lowest number of victims in nine days. It is also the first time since March 28 that daily deaths have dropped below 800. The number of registered cases rose to 130,759 from 124,736, Spain’s ministry said. The five percent rise in infections was the smallest increase since the start of the health crisis.

Economist Stephen Moore warns US could be headed toward a Great Depression
Economist Stephen Moore warned that the US is barrelling headlong toward a Great Depression if the economy isn’t revived by next month because of the damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
“At some point soon, we’re going to have to make some real decisions about what kind of a calamity we are causing through the lock-down of our economy. I’m not saying we should be inattentive to the public health concern…But at some point, we have to worry about what we’re doing to our society, and what kind of economy we’re going to have after this is all over,” Moore, who has advised President Trump on the economy, told host John Catsimatidis on his AM-970 radio show “The Cats Roundtable” in an interview that aired Sunday.
“If we go much past May 1, we are facing a potential Great Depression scenario,” Moore said.
Wall Street markets plummeted on Friday after the feds released the March jobs report that showed the US economy lost 701,000 jobs last month, ending a nine-year hiring streak.
Moore said the country’s unemployment rate could get worse as the coronavirus spreads, rising as high as 23 percent.
The rate hit 24.9 percent in 1933 during the Great Depression. see also White House: Americans should avoid grocery shopping as coronavirus hits apex
The president during a White House coronavirus task force briefing Saturday said hard decisions must be made on the economy.
“Because you know, at a certain point, you’ll lose more people this way through all of the problems caused, than you will with what we’re doing right now,” Trump said of the stay-at-home orders issued by governors across the country.
“What we’re doing right now, I think is going to be very successful, but you know what? I don’t know. We have a big decision to make at a certain point. OK? We have a big decision to make. We went this extra period of time, but I said it from the beginning, the cure cannot be worse than the problem itself.”
“We have to open our country again,” Trump continued. “We don’t want to be doing this for months and months and months.”
Trump had called for opening up the economy by April 12, Easter Sunday, but reversed himself and extended the restrictions until April 30.

Elton John launches $1M coronavirus emergency fund to protect those with HIV
Elton John is stepping up once again in the battle against coronavirus.
The “Rocket Man” singer announced Saturday that his Elton John Aids Foundation has launched a $1 million COVID-19 emergency fund to protect individuals with HIV.
“For almost 30 years my foundation has prioritized the most vulnerable people to HIV, to end the AIDS epidemic and we’re committed to this during the COVID-19 crisis too,” John said in a video posted on Twitter.
He noted that “distributing medicine, testing and preventive treatment is not as simple as it was a few weeks ago,” and the emergency fund is meant to help.
“Our new COVID-19 emergency fund will help frontline partners to prepare for and respond to the pandemic and its effects on HIV prevention and care for the most marginalized communities,” he explained. “We’re with you, we’re thinking of you, we will not leave anyone behind.” Additional details on the fund can be found here.
Earlier this week, John hosted a coronavirus relief concert called “Fox Presents the iHeart Living Room Concert for America.”
The star-studded March 29 event featured Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys performing from their homes. Other performers included Tim McGraw, the Backstreet Boys, Sam Smith, Dave Grohl, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes.
The event raised more than $10 million for the fight against coronavirus.

Are the Repug Governors who refuse to issue stay-at-home orders now prospectively, and secretly, concocting lies about how they'll deliberately misidentify the deaths that will occur due to Covid-19?
When the Covfefe-19 shit hit hits the fan in their states, I would not put it past them to lie about causes of death that are actually due to Corona, just so they can shield themselves, Trump and their stupid Trump Rabidian voters who'll buy it.
For instance, (and I don't mean to give them ideas, they've probably already thought of this) I can see Repug Governors threaten health care providers with charges of violating state and federal HIPAA prohibitions if they attempt to release actual cause-of-death attributable to Covid-19.

Several European countries are reporting decreases today in cases and/or deaths including the UK. Definitely encouraging news but we need to wait and see as it is Sunday and the information may not be completely up to date for many countries.
Regarding the UK figures:
BBC-Both last weekend and the weekend before that, reported deaths fell on the Sunday only for the backlog of reporting to come through in a Tuesday spike. So we should wait a few days before reading too much into these figures. It is the second day in a row of below-trend growth. The long-term trend has been a doubling every three-and-a-half-days, which would put us above 900 deaths on Sunday. Any number below that is welcome, but we won't know for a few days whether it's a real fall or delays in reporting.

George W. Bush in 2005: 'If we wait for a pandemic to appear, it will be too late to prepare'
In the summer of 2005, President George W. Bush was on vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he began flipping through an advanced copy of a new book about the 1918 flu pandemic. He couldn't put it down.
When he returned to Washington, he called his top homeland security adviser into the Oval Office and gave her the galley of historian John M. Barry's "The Great Influenza," which told the chilling tale of the mysterious plague that "would kill more people than the outbreak of any other disease in human history."
"You've got to read this," Fran Townsend remembers the president telling her. "He said, 'Look, this happens every 100 years. We need a national strategy.'"
Thus was born the nation's most comprehensive pandemic plan -- a playbook that included diagrams for a global early warning system, funding to develop new, rapid vaccine technology, and a robust national stockpile of critical supplies, such as face masks and ventilators, Townsend said.
The effort was intense over the ensuing three years, including exercises where cabinet officials gamed out their responses, but it was not sustained. Large swaths of the ambitious plan were either not fully realized or entirely shelved as other priorities and crises took hold.
But elements of that effort have formed the foundation for the national response to the coronavirus pandemic underway right now.
"Despite politics, despite changes, when a crisis hits, you pull what you've got off the shelf and work from there," Townsend said.
When Bush first told his aides he wanted to focus on the potential of a global pandemic, many of them harbored doubts.
"My reaction was -- I'm buried. I'm dealing with counterterrorism. Hurricane season. Wildfires. I'm like, 'What?'" Townsend said. "He said to me, 'It may not happen on our watch, but the nation needs the plan.'"
Over the ensuing months, cabinet officials got behind the idea. Most of them had governed through the Sept. 11 terror attacks, so events considered unlikely but highly-impactful had a certain resonance.
"There was a realization that it's no longer fantastical to raise scenarios about planes falling from the sky, or anthrax arriving in the mail," said Tom Bossert, who worked in the Bush White House and went on to serve as a homeland security adviser in the Trump administration. "It was not a novel. It was the world we were living."
According to Bossert, who is now an ABC News contributor, Bush did not just insist on preparation for a pandemic. He was obsessed with it.
"He was completely taken by the reality that that was going to happen," Bossert said.
In a November 2005 speech at the Institutes of Health, Bush laid out proposals in granular detail -- describing with stunning prescience how a pandemic in the United States would unfold. Among those in the audience was Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leader of the current crisis response, who was then and still is now the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | April 5, 2020 2:55 PM |
"A pandemic is a lot like a forest fire," Bush said at the time. "If caught early it might be extinguished with limited damage. If allowed to smolder, undetected, it can grow to an inferno that can spread quickly beyond our ability to control it."
The president recognized that an outbreak was a different kind of disaster than the ones the federal government had been designed to address.
"To respond to a pandemic, we need medical personnel and adequate supplies of equipment," Bush said. "In a pandemic, everything from syringes to hospital beds, respirators masks and protective equipment would be in short supply."
Bush told the gathered scientists that they would need to develop a vaccine in record time.
"If a pandemic strikes, our country must have a surge capacity in place that will allow us to bring a new vaccine on line quickly and manufacture enough to immunize every American against the pandemic strain," he said.
Bush set out to spend $7 billion building out his plan. His cabinet secretaries urged their staffs to take preparations seriously. The government launched a website, www.pandemicflu.gov, that is still in use today. But as time passed, it became increasingly difficult to justify the continued funding, staffing and attention, Bossert said.
"You need to have annual budget commitment. You need to have institutions that can survive any one administration. And you need to have leadership experience," Bossert said. "All three of those can be effected by our wonderful and unique form of government in which you transfer power every four years."
Bush declined, through a spokesman, to comment on the unfolding crisis or discuss the current response. But his remarks from 15 years ago still resonate.
"If we wait for a pandemic to appear," he warned, "it will be too late to prepare. And one day many lives could be needlessly lost because we failed to act today."

Guardian-Authorities in Ecuador’s biggest city are distributing thousands of cardboard coffins and have created a helpline for families who need corpses to be removed from their homes, report Tom Phillips and Blanca Moncada in Guayaquil. The city has emerged as a regional hotspot for coronavirus, and hospitals and mortuaries have been overwhelmed, forcing some families to store bodies at home. “It looks like a warzone hospital. Silly Sweeden
Guardian-Sweden’s government is drawing up new legislation to allow it to take “extraordinary steps” to combat Covid-19, local media have reported, amid concern that its relatively soft approach may be leading to a higher death rate than in other Nordic countries.Denmark and Norway are among the many countries to have imposed tough lockdowns, closing borders and shutting schools, and Finland has isolated its main urban area around Helsinki. But Swedes are still able to shop, go to restaurants, get a haircut and send children under 16 to class. On Sunday Sweden reported a total of 401 deaths so far from Covid-19, and acknowledged delays in reporting mean the actual number is likely to be considerably higher. The figure was up 8% from Saturday and is greater than the totals of the other three Nordic nations combined. Sweden’s toll per million inhabitants is 37, compared with 28 in Denmark, 12 in Norway and 4.5 in Finland.

I finally managed to buy N95 face masks on EBay last night for a fairly reasonable price of $4 per piece and have 12 now. But aren't we supposed to use them only once? That is ridiculous if this pandemic lasts another couple of weeks or even months. How are you guys handling your masks? I thought about using maybe 5 different masks and putting them in a plastic bag and storing them on the balcony for a couple of days after each use? Would any virus still be active on a mask after 3-5 days? My masks have a ventilator so other options like washing them in hot water or putting them in the microwave are not possible I guess.
How many masks do you all have? Do you use them only once or the same mask all the time? How do you "care" for it?
by Anonymous | reply 164 | April 5, 2020 3:03 PM |

A doctor on Face the Nation a little while ago said he doesn't see any changes until Fall at the earliest. That's if some sort of medication is proven to be safe and effective. Even then, people will still have to follow protective measures. Every doctor, without naming a name (Trump) is pointing out that his info is incorrect.

If you have a smart cotton mask, be sure to wash it with your normal laundry load. Wash colors with color items. And never accept food from strangers like Jessica Chastain.

I have tightly woven fabric masks and one-time use disposables.
The fabric masks are washable, and conformto you facial shape, but they do get really warm. The disposable masks aren't as warm, and I find I prefer those. Either way, I'm still protected.
I bought early enough that I didn't pay inflated prices.

I would love if the astrologer could tell me the actual number of people that have been infected. Three of my coworkers had tests come back positive today. One was expected since he’s been down for the count, but the other two are completely asymptomatic three days post test and more than a week after exposure. It really makes you wonder how many people have been infected and had no idea. I’m trying to think positively, (as department heads are huddling and not contributing to an atmosphere of calm) that if there’s been a significant amount of these cases, we might achieve herd immunity at a faster rate than anticipated.

R136, your Mary Sunshine diatribe offers nothing at all we can use to protect ourselves in a pandemic that is being exacerbated by large portions of our society who are willfully stupid and trained from childhood to accept 'alternative facts' and follow the herd. Without something helpful, your nasty admonition is pointless and useless and graceless.
I suggest that If these megachurches hold huge Palm Sunday services, we step back and allow it. First Amendment, Establishment Clause, and all that. Let them. But once they are in there, they are quarantined in there. They should not be allowed to leave. Public Health, National Security, and all that.
Call me cruel, if you want, R136. But wringing one's hands and whining, "Can't we all get along," will not cut it in a health emergency the magnitude of this one.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | April 5, 2020 3:35 PM |
The virus only lives on cloth for up to 24 hours. Even if you don't wash it, the mask should be virus-free after a day. I don't see the need to overuse detergents, soaps and wipes needlessly.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | April 5, 2020 3:41 PM |
R169. Not trying to bring you down, but the herd strategy is not a good option for this virus because it is too deadly. Just today, there were 29 deaths in the UK for people with no underlying health conditions. Besides, we are miles and miles away from any sort of herd immunity. True, lots of people have already contracted the virus and survived but there are millions upon millions of people just in the US who have not
by Anonymous | reply 173 | April 5, 2020 3:41 PM |
R164 Read this. Remember, N95 masks are made of paper and the virus only survives on paper for 24 hours. So the easiest thing is just to number and rotate your masks to give the virus time to die. Masks can also be 'baked' in a very low temp oven for 30 minutes to kill virus.
Homemade cloth masks can of course just be washed with your regular laundry.

r127, ivermectin is one of the SAFEST antiparasitics... and it's not used for "flea control", it's a wormer. Some "flea collars" USED to include it in the hope the animal WOULD ingest it & get protection against worms, but now it's used only in tablets/chew-treats and topical "spot" type liquids to reduce the risk that a child (or breed of dog with a genetic mutation that makes it dangerous to them) will ingest it. Collars had too much risk of long-term shedding into the dog's environment & ending up in a child's mouth.
You're probably thinking of either organophosphates or imidacloprid.
Organophosphates are cheap, but have always been known to be somewhere between "not good" and "really bad" for pet health (tempered against uncontrolled flea infestation, which is arguably worse). I'd never expose my pets to OPs.
Imidacloprid (and other neonicotinoids) s a more complicated situation. To mammals, it's basically harmless. At worst, it's like low-dose nicotine. To insects, it's absolutely deadly. The objections to neonic products is purely due to potential for broader environmental harm (esp. things like honeybee colony collapse).
The catch-22 for environmentalists is, the only safe (to humans & animals) viable to neonics & OPs are DDT-like insecticides, which arguably have even bigger environmental issues. Flea products using imidacloprid, fipronil, etc. are effective and safe for pets & humans, but bad for wildlife. Flea products using OPs are harmful to pets & humans, but break down quickly in the environment. Personally, I care more about my cats (and I) not dying from cancer or heartworms, so THEY get imidacloprid and ivermectin, honeybees be damned.

Coronavirus death rate for New Orleans is double that of New York City
New Orleans has emerged as one of the country’s coronavirus hotspots, with a death rate per-capita double that of New York City, according to a troubling new report.
Gary Wagner, an economics professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said the parish of Orleans, which encompasses the Big Easy, saw a coronavirus death rate of 37.93 per 100,000 people as of Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Meanwhile, the death rate for the Big Apple was 18.86 per 100,000 people, the outlet reported.
Louisiana has reported more than 12,400 cases as of Sunday with the death toll climbing over 400, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The state is second only to New York for the number of deaths per-capita, the newspaper reported.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards attributed his state’s troubling death rates to the prevalence of other health conditions among residents, according to the report. The state sees high rates of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and kidney disease.
“We have more than our fair share of people who have the comorbidities that make them especially vulnerable,” Edwards told the outlet.
Dr. Alex Billioux, who is the state’s public health chief, said they’ve taken aggressive steps, such as increasing testing, to prevent Louisiana from becoming the next Italy, which has seen more than 15,000 deaths.
“We all look at the video of what’s going on in settings like Italy. We really, really, really hope that we are doing what we need to do to not be on that trajectory,” Billioux told the outlet. “By the end of this epidemic, every family is going to be touched.”

Tom Dempsey, former NFL kicker, dead from coronavirus at 73
Tom Dempsey, who became a record-setting NFL placekicker for the New Orleans Saints despite being born without toes on his right foot, died Saturday after contracting the coronavirus, the team announced. He was 73.
Dempsey had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia since 2012 and had been in hospice care for several days after testing positive for COVID-19 on March 25. The former Pro Bowl kicker is among at least 15 residents at the Lambeth House retirement home in New Orleans to die after contracting the pandemic virus, NOLA.com reported.
In addition to his wife, Dempsey is survived by three children and three grandchildren.

We made a run to the grocery store this morning. We have a car (for...reasons) and can and usually do go to a store in one of the more suburban-y parts of Queens. We got there around 9:30 and it looked like a bomb had gone off. There was almost nothing in the meat case. The ONLY chicken was in the the kosher case, and I couldn't be an assole, so we left that for the people who need it.
We had a run to Costco about three weeks ago and got about a two week emergency supply, but we're trying to conserve that for if things get worse or one of us (probably me) gets sick.
If nothing else, the head cashier got really saucy on the intercom about people being idiots waiting in line, so that was cool.

r125, you weren't told to wash everything "because ivermectin is toxic", you were told to do it because you had unhatched eggs everywhere in your environment ready to re-infest you after taking your last dose of the meds.
In the US, oral ivermectin isn't commonly prescribed for lice because it has to be taken for a month or two to REALLY clear up an infestation, and most people who don't already take some other meds daily eventually miss too many doses, then complain when it fails to work. It's also generally been absurdly expensive... the patents expired, but AFAIK there was only one FDA-approved US mfr, so it ended up costing pennies per tablet in Africa, and $5-10/tablet (or more) in the US. Finally, in the US, if you get sent home from school or work due to lice, they won't allow you to return until you're lice (and egg) free, so you STILL need at least one round of topical insecticide and manual egg-removal. So... in most cases, prescribing oral ivermectin would be expensive & redundant.

R164, R165, I’m going to post this again for you. It’s the inventor of the N95 mask describing how to safely clean and recycle masks.
I’m no scientist, so don’t quote me, but apparently these masks work best when completely dry. So any cleaning involves making them completely dry. There also seems to be some sort of electromagnetic element involved, as in the mask repels the virus, it doesn’t just cover you up. So how you clean the mask matters, you can’t just do it any old way, because that will damage its usefulness. I don’t u sweat and it myself, maybe someone like Elderlez can explain it better. Anyway, here it is.

R173 Maybe I was unclear in my wording, but I was in no way advocating for a herd immunity strategy. The CDC and various other sources are estimating that around 25% of infected patients are asymptomatic. These cases are not being counted, because we’re not doing widespread testing. The only reason my asymptomatic coworkers got tested, is because they’re healthcare providers and were exposed to an infected patient. I’m not sure if people realize how far behind we still are on testing. I’ve had two patients die before their test results came back. Two weeks ago it was taking 10 days to get results, and now we’re down to 3. The vast majority of testing conducted in the ER and even the ICU of my hospital is on patients we deem likely to be infected. My whole point was that I’d love to know the true number of infections we’ve had in the US vs the reported number which is not accurate. R175 I hope you’re a troll, because someone upthread kept mentioning a psychic, so I said it as a joke.

No one knows what the next steps are. They're making it up as they go. Lots of documentation is required---payroll reports, taxes, etc. that all has to be uploaded to a site that keeps crashing. I finally got the app submitted late last night, after several hours of unsuccessful attempts. Many business owners have been paralyzed by all the red tape and confusing guidelines. But if they don't act quickly, chances are there won't be any money left for them.

[quote] I don't feel like the death toll will be as bad as they think
Bill Gates thinks it's possible that the death toll will be less than currently being advertised.
Politically, there is no downside to releasing large ranging death toll numbers. Even if false, they may scare people into doing the right thing- masks, social distancing, etc. And if the real numbers come in much less than "projected," the Trump Admin will look like saviors, especially to themselves and in all future political ads.
Anyway, here's what Bill Gates says, and we hope he is right about this.
[quote] Trump last week predicted that the U.S. could see between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from COVID-19 before the outbreak is under control, echoing forecasts from White House health advisor Anthony Fauci.
[quote] “If we do the social distancing properly, we should be able to get out of this with a death number well short of that,” Gates told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. He said it’s “very important” those figures are out there so people understand the severity of the situation.

The death toll may be more than 9/11 but this is different because it’s ongoing over days and days.
[quote]NY Gov @andrewcuomo: "Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods—they happen, they are fast, they’re over, you start rebuilding. This is different. This is ongoing, and the duration itself is debilitating and exhausting and depressing."
and this:
[quote]An ER doc: "The one thing that always comes to mind about this disease is how lonely it becomes. You see old people, young people, middle-aged people, just slowly wither away. There’s no family, there’s no one here to just sit by their side and hold their hand."
[quote]Laura Merrill, whose father died of COVID-19 last weekend: "I was hysterical. It just started sinking in: We can’t have a funeral. We can’t mourn as a family. I have to stay in my apartment. My stepmother has to stay in her apartment. We can’t grieve."

Realistically, how do we get back to normal (or a new normal)? I cannot find any information about the length of immunity. If immunity only lasts a finite amount of time, and a vaccine (if feasible) is years off, and the virus is highly contagious - how does the virus die off or go away? I wish scientists would figure out how long immunity lasts. Apparently, SARS immunity lasts 2 to 3 years. For those more versed in epidemiology, what do you envision is our path forward.

For R191 -
A LETTER FROM LARRY KRAMER
WE MUST GET RID OF TRUMP IMMEDIATELY. Not tomorrow, not next week, but immediately.
He is destroying our country.
Each day he delivers yet another nail in the coffin that is his responsibility to guard and protect.
I realize that being an activist via facebook is not easy and probably not very effective and what we accomplished in the days of ACT UP is out of range now. Reading all the posts of what people are going through is heartbreaking and not very effective as an activist tool.
I’ve been trying to come up with some ways we can fight for ways to get rid of this murderer. Emailing every elected official is not going to do it. Whatever happened to Nancy Pelosi’s promise to put impeachment orders on the agenda appears to have disappeared just at a time when there must be enough congressional votes to support her. What’s happened to her? She seems to have turned into a weenie. All of Congress have turned into cowards. It’s just amazing to watch how much Trump can get away with it.
One idea I’ve had as this.
Many of us know some one person who is important (and probably a Republican). How can you shame him into action? I’ll give you an example. Jordan Roth, who owns Jujamcyn Theaters, is a friend of mine. Every actor in New York is beholden to him. His father Steven Roth is one of the richest men in the world. He is in business with Donald Trump. They own buildings together. I have tried to shame Jordan into action. “Take off all those dresses you seem to wear, get a haircut, and be a man and beg your father to help us,” I wrote to him. That’s the kind of tactic I’m thinking about. We did stuff like this all the time in ACT UP and it worked. We got the drugs. Go after the important person you name and shame him. Don’t be nice about it. Shame is a powerful tool to use.
I’d like to remind everyone that AIDS is still a virulent plague that’s infecting millions of people. Trump promised to get rid of it. Yeah. And put Pence in charge of that.
Too many of us are now living two plagues. What kind of monster allows such as this?
We have to get rid of this murderer. We have to find a way to do it fast.

They can grieve at home.
That’s harsh, but it’s the same as all these people that just “have” to go to church. You claim you’re god-fearing and faithful, but you don’t think you can talk to God in your house? Why not, he can’t hear you? Bad wi-fi connection?
I saw a movie from the 1930s recently. The father of the house sat down and read a Bible verse every evening to the family, assembled at the kitchen table. The adults all had their Bibles there, the children listened along. That’s the earliest form of church service. That was a pretty common form of church service back in the day, when people often lived in remote areas.
If you are alone, sit down at a set time every evening and read a bit of the Bible or your religious text out loud. Or fix up a small altar in your house. At a set time every night, pray at your altar.
Most people have a cross, a Bible, or a Koran or other holy book. They can make a small altar out of a small table, desk or niche in a corner. Put a couple of reminders of your religious belief there. Candles, a religious picture, or copy out a religious verse that has special meaning to you and put it in a frame. Put a tablecloth or pretty piece of fabric over the surface and arrange your religious items. It says in the Bible that people should pray in a closet in private. Time to try that out.
Some people seemed to have worked themselves up to believe that if you’re not praying in a crowd, it doesn’t count. That’s not true at all.

Advantage II should be safe for cats.
The reason for most of the cautions is due to the fact that it's totally safe at low doses, but CAN become a hazard if the cat consumes a large dose.
When you apply it to the back of their neck, it gets absorbed into the skin (forming an on-cat reservoir), then slowly excretes back out in sebum over the next few weeks. Little/none gets systemically absorbed through the skin itself.
One risk is that if you apply it to two cats who are able to groom each other before it gets absorbed, they might lick a large amount from the other cat and get ill. The caution is even greater if you have a dog, especially a large one. If you applied it to something like a cat-friendly doberman and allowed the cat access to the dog soon afterwards, it could absolutely lick off a quantity that would make it ill.
Think of it like nicotine-containing vape juice. When vaporized in small quantities, it's safe (at least, in the sense that consuming small amounts of nicotine isn't particularly dangerous). If you sat down and DRANK vape juice, you'd run a real risk of ending up having seizures, a heart attack, or both (among other nasty & unpleasant things). It's effective as an insecticide because it takes almost none to shut down an insect's nervous system, but takes a much larger amount to harm mammals.
Generally, you don't EVER want to use a "dog" flea product on a cat. Even if the list of active ingredients is the same, and the doses appear identical, there's always the risk that there might be an INACTIVE ingredient that's harmful to cats.
This is one of the things that has hampered research into finding an effective antiviral treatment for FIV. Everybody knows that human protease inhibitors, and most other HIV meds, effectively suppress FIV as well. The problem is, some of the OTHER ingredients that go into many human HIV meds to make them shelf-stable at room temperature (so they don't require refrigeration, and can be dosed as tablets or capsules instead of requiring injection) are unquestionably known to be toxic to cats.
The canine version of Frontline, in particular, must never, EVER be given to a cat. The feline version is an excellent and safe product for cats, but the canine version really shouldn't even be given to dogs who live in the same HOUSE as a cat, just due to the risk of a cat coming into contact with it.

I'm being following the Worldometer website. On about March 14 the entire country had just over 14,000 active cases, and California, where I live, it was a fraction of that. Now, 3 weeks later, California has 14,000+ cases. If this thing is not slowed down, CA could have the total 333,017 cases that the US has today. Sobering thought.
One good thing resulting form the stay at home measures that began 3 weeks ago, the CA death rate per million is much lower than other states. Our death rate is lower than Louisiana.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Veterinary Services Laboratories has confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans) in one tiger at a zoo in New York. This is the first instance of a tiger being infected with COVID-19. Samples from this tiger were taken and tested after several lions and tigers at the zoo showed symptoms of respiratory illness.
Public health officials believe these large cats became sick after being exposed to a zoo employee who was actively shedding virus. The zoo has been closed to the public since mid-March, and the first tiger began showing signs of sickness on March 27. All of these large cats are expected to recover. There is no evidence that other animals in other areas of the zoo are showing symptoms.

The majority of American C19 deaths won't be next week. It'll be NEXT YEAR. Quite ironically, after we'll probably HAVE multiple effective treatment regimens (especially when it's caught early and treated aggressively), and maybe even after a virus exists.
Why? Right now, if you think you have it, you can run to the hospital & they'll treat you unquestionably along with everyone else, and everyone is so freaked out about it, they WILL run to the hospital. Next year, we'll be back to the American healthcare norm, where you don't go anywhere NEAR a hospital unless you LITERALLY see the grim reaper impatiently tapping his foot, because you know that even with good insurance, the moment they slap that wristband on you, you're going to end up hundreds or thousands of dollars poorer AND (in some cases, almost worse) be dealing with a seemingly ENDLESS torrent of itemized bills (because even within a hospital, everyone bills separately).
So... people will get it, figure they CAN wait since "there are now treatments", and end up waiting too long. Or they'll arrive, and go from "seriously ill" to "code blue" waiting for the billing department to figure out whether they're sick enough to HAVE to be treated, or whether they can be turned away and told to go elsewhere. Or while the hospital is on the phone trying to get pre-auth from the insurer to do a chest CT scan or MRI on-site, instead of scheduling an appointment at the insurer's designated outpatient imaging provider.
The American fatalities won't be an explosion, they'll be a tsunami. Remember, the dangerous part of a tsunami isn't really a single big wall of water crashing down (most of the time, the water crashes down long before it reaches the shore). Rather, it's the post-crash flow of water surging inland... and surging inland... and continuing to surge inland for several minutes, instead of reversing direction and flowing back out to sea a few seconds later. A block inland from the beach, most tsunamis are just inland floods, and aren't even necessarily all that deep... but the water MOVES, and drags stuff along with it. That's the metaphor to envision for C19 in America next summer.
Or maybe it'll even happen this Christmas. The virus will resurge due to Thanksgiving travel, and most people will get treated... but infected people will be EVERYWHERE spreading it around, so that people will get infected around December 18-22, go into Christmas Eve feeling kind of sick, and defer getting treatment because they won't want to ruin everyone else's Christmas... then they'll end up ruining everyone's Christmas for the next 20 years by dying a day or two later.

by Anonymous | reply 290 | April 5, 2020 9:41 PM |
R281, you can almost unquestionably get it again. Maybe not right away, but eventually. And the evidence seems to be that having a mild case once doesn't necessarily guarantee that future cases will be equally mild.
Perfect example: influenza. Most people who die from it while elderly have LITERALLY had it dozens of times in their life by that point. All "novel" means in this case is that it spreads like wildfire, because nearly everyone who gets exposed to it is likely to end up catching it. In the future, the spreading rate might slow down, because you'll always have some random subset of the population at any given time that still has residual immunity from their previous encounter.
What I'm arguing is that the REAL wave of deaths will be sustained and in slow motion... long after people have stopped living in fear of it, and instead have started to just write it off as something they've had a few times that ended up being "nothing". THAT is when people who wouldn't have died from it with upcoming treatments WILL die from it, because they won't bother to even SEEK those treatments until it's too late.

R281 - I read a long interview last week with an epidemiologist MD who used to be a high-up official in the FDA, I think. He was talking about the long-range needs for dealing with this virus. He said that the science indicates that people who gain immunity from a low-dose exposure, and don't become seriously ill, would likely only be immune for a period of time, and that the immunity would wear off; he said he couldn't speculate about how long such immunity would last. The cycling of infection would not stop until a vaccine could confer permanent or long-term immunity.

R281, the Spanish flu had its initial outbreak in the Spring of 1918. Then it tapered off in the summer before coming back with a more deadly wave in the fall. Why wouldn't that be a possibility with COVID-19?
by Anonymous | reply 295 | April 5, 2020 9:52 PM |
It *is* a possibility, R295, but no one is sure how it will go. The virus is spreading in Australia, where it's summer now, so there is reason to think that the warm weather may not put much of a dent in its ability to spread. (It's also spreading in Indonesia, which is in the tropics).

NYC surgeon reveals workers forced to ration care for non-coronavirus patients
A Columbia University surgeon has described in a heart-wrenching letter how he and other doctors are now being forced to choose which non-coronavirus patients, including infants, deserve medical procedures.
“We have had to make decisions that I personally have never had to contemplate before,” Manhattan Dr. Emile Bacha wrote to friends and coworkers, according to CNN. “We have had to ration care and make decisions about who is considered an urgent or emergent case.”
Bacha — director of pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in Washington Heights — said his pediatric-heart-surgery program is down to one operating team, and “only truly life-threatening problems are allowed.”
“We have to decide what to do about endless other cases, such as shunt-dependent infants, children with ventricular septal defects in heart failure, teenagers with bad valves, and so on — all families in need, looking for our help,” Bacha wrote.
The hospital recently gave new guidelines to its workers saying that nurses must focus on coronavirus care, leaving countless other procedures and surgeries to be postponed or canceled.
Across the country, states, have ordered the delay of non-urgent procedures, according to the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, in an effort to combat the outbreak.

Lung-draining ‘turning teams’ may be the next evolution in COVID-19 care
As they became inundated with patients suffering severe respiratory distress from the coronavirus last month, a group of nurses at a Long Island hospital snapped into action and created a “turning team.”
The eight-member squad at Huntington Hospital — including nurses, doctors and orderlies — works to turn critically ill patients in the throes of COVID-19 on their stomachs to allow gravity to remove mucus buildup in their lungs.
“We think this is helpful because in other similar lung conditions, we have found it to work in the past,” said Michael Grosso, the medical director. “Keeping patients prone opens both the airways and gets more oxygen into air sacs and improves circulation to the lungs.”
The relatively simple procedure, which is also being used in some New York City hospitals when overwhelmed staff is available, was found to help patients at the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, China, according to a study published last week by the American Thoracic Society’s “American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.”
A lung specialist at NYU Langone told The Post that the hospital is “proning patients” both in and out of intensive care.
“Most of the proning we are doing is manual and takes several people to do,” said Dr. Daniel Sterman.
Although some hospitals have special beds that will turn the patients automatically, patients who are intubated and hooked up to a respirator and other life-saving devices need to be turned manually, with the aid of a dedicated team, health care professionals said.
“Don’t forget that these are patients who are usually already receiving mechanical ventilation, with a breathing tube in their wind pipe, and tubes that are placed into their blood vessels, and when you are turning a patient under those circumstances, it requires several people,” said Grosso, whose 270-bed hospital has 200 patients suffering from COVID-19.

I wonder if people are being put on ventilators too soon for the circumstances, especially since once they are on, they are on for a long time. Under normal conditions, there is some baseline that determines being put on a ventilator to rest the lungs and force more oxygen. But that's when there are enough ventilators to go around. Do we know if hospitals changed their normal protocols for assigning a patient to a ventilator early on in anticipation of the dearth of ventilators to come?

Influenza mutates very quickly. Every year’s seasonal influenza is basically a new bug. You won’t get the same flu strain twice though. The 1918 flu didn’t come back because people were reinfected. It came back because it started in the spring of 1918 and flu doesn’t spread well in warm weather so very few people got immunity on the first Evidence so far is that Coronavirus mutates slowly, which is great news.

1) Can reinfections occur in the time between initial infection and significant antibodies?

3) How long will immunity last? (Let’s hope this is an open question for a long, long, long time.)

R317, my point was whether there was an actual ethical discussion about waiting longer than they normally would have under regular circumstances, knowing what was coming. Like, if usually on a scale of 1 to 10 of respiratory distress, you are put on a ventilator at 5 out of an overabundance of caution, a decision was made to wait until it reached 6 or 7 now while they tried everything they could to keep that person off a ventilator that would be in huge demand in the very near future hoping they could keep them from taking up a ventilator?

Open questions -
1) Can reinfections occur in the time between initial infection and significant antibodies?
2) Can SARS-CoV-2 remain in the system and surface later to cause problems? (Think herpes zoster with chicken pox first and then shingles later or HPV with cancer)
3) How long will immunity last? (Let’s hope this is an open question for a long, long, long time.)

r312, a lot of kerfuffle has been made about ventilators (which reportedly aren't saving that many COVID-19 patients as the virus fucks up their lungs so badly that by the time they need a ventilator it's more likely than not that they're going to die while on it) but the really crucial thing that's needed and that there's a looming shortage of is medical oxygen.

The thing about medical oxygen is, if push truly comes to shove, welding-grade and SCUBA-grade oxygen is abundant, and arguably no more dangerous to breathe than New York's normal polluted air. It's mostly just about enforcing ideal standards & having proper certifications.
Put another way, a hospital isn't allowed to buy, say, SCUBA-grade oxygen for normal use... but it's not going to intentionally suffocate patients by refusing to use lesser-grade O2 if that's literally all that's available, and the alternative were nearly-certain death.
I'm not sure, but I suspect large hospitals have their own on-site large-scale oxygen concentrators anyway.
At the end of the day, the only difference between "regular" and "medical grade" stuff is usually just paperwork & official certification... 99.999% assurance, vs 99.995% assurance.

I could be the last person some of these patients ever see, or the last voice they hear. A lot of people will never come off the ventilator. That’s the reality of this virus. I force myself to think about that for a few seconds each time I walk into the ICU to do an intubation.
This is my entire job now. Airways. Coronavirus airways. I’m working 14 hours a night and six nights a week. When patients aren’t getting enough oxygen, I place a tube down their airway so we can put them on a vent. It buys their body time to fight the virus. It’s also probably the most dangerous procedure a doctor can do when it comes to personal exposure. I’m getting within a few inches of the patient’s face. I’m leaning in toward the mouth, placing my fingers on the gums, opening up the airway. All it takes is a cough. A gag. If anything goes badly, you can have a room full of virus.
Our team had a meeting on March 16th to figure out a staffing plan, once it was clear where this was going. Chicago’s becoming a hot spot now. Our ICU is almost full with covid patients. The pediatric ICU has been cleared out to handle overflow. The wave is just starting, and we need to limit our exposure or we’re going to run out of staff. Everyone basically agreed we should dedicate one person to covid intubations during the day and another at night, and I started thinking: I’m 33 years old. I don’t have any kids at home. I don’t live with older relatives. About an hour after the meeting, I emailed my supervisor. “I’m happy to do this. It should be me.”
by Anonymous | reply 402 | April 6, 2020 4:13 AM |
Continued:
I’ve been shocked sometimes when I walk in and see the patients. Most of the ones I’ve intubated are young — 30s, 40s, 50s. These are people who walked into the ER because they were coughing a day or two ago, or sometimes hours ago. By the time I come into the room, they are in severe respiratory distress. Their oxygen level might be 70 or 80 percent instead of 100, which is alarming. They are taking 40 breaths a minute when they should be taking 12 or 14. They have no oxygen reserves. They are pale and exhausted. It puts them in a mental fog, and sometimes they don’t hear me when I introduce myself. Some are panicky and gasping. Others are mumbling or incoherent.
The first thing I do is pull up a stool and get right down to their level at the bed. Most of the time, the look in their eyes is fear. But sometimes, honestly, it is relief, like, “Thank God. I can’t do this anymore.” They don’t have the energy to be hysterical.
I put an oxygen mask on the patient and give 100 percent oxygen for a few minutes. You want to tank them up, because they won’t be able to breathe on their own. Next I give medication to put them to sleep. We’re trained to touch the eyelashes a bit to make sure they’re down. Then I give a muscle relaxer and take a look down the airway for the vocal cords. When I start to put the tube in, that gives an opportunity for the virus to release into the air. The patient’s airway is wide open at that point — no mask or anything. People can cough when the tube goes in toward the trachea, a deep, forceful cough. My mask and hood can get covered in fluid. Usually it’s tiny droplets. Aerosolized virus can float around. You’re basically right next to the nuclear reactor. I go in confident and fast, because if you miss on the first try, you have to do it again, and then you’re bringing out a ton more virus.

R249 I think you should do some research before you give veterinarian advice. This is the very reason no one should take some anonymous schmuck's "advice" on the internet. R249 look up the ingredients of the cat and the dog versions of Frontline Plus or Frontline, it is the exact same ingredients and strength, fipronil and methoprene, it only differs in the amount of product between the two. Are you a fucking vet? Stop acting like it. This time it would not have hurt the animal but your ADVICE next time could kill.

#3
Each night I try to do rounds with the doctors in the ICU to check on the patients I’ve intubated. They’re not allowed to have family or visitors. Mostly they’re unconscious on the vent, but each day for an hour or two they get what we call a sedation holiday, which means we bring down their medications so we can check on their baseline level of consciousness and see how they’re doing on their own. In other words, for a little while, they might wake up.
They can’t talk with the tube in, but I have seen a few patients before write messages on a piece of paper. “Vent?” Or: “Surgery?” Or: “How much longer?”
Usually, before this, patients would be on a vent for three to five days. Now we’re seeing 14 to 21. Most of these people have acute respiratory distress syndrome. There’s inflammation, scar tissue, and fluid building up in the lungs, so oxygen can’t diffuse easily. No matter how much oxygen you give them, it can’t get through. It’s never enough. Organs are very sensitive to low oxygen. First comes kidney failure, then liver failure, and then brain tissue becomes compromised. Immune systems stop working. There’s a look most people get, called mottling, where the skin turns red and patchy when you only have a few hours left. We have a few at that point. Some have been converted to “do not resuscitate.”

[quote] Rudolph W. Giuliani, who was in the center of the impeachment storm earlier this year as an unpaid private attorney for President Trump, has cast himself in a new role: as personal science adviser to a president eager to find ways to short-circuit the coronavirus pandemic.
[quote]In one-on-one phone calls with Trump, Giuliani said, he has been touting the use of an anti-malarial drug combination that has shown some early promise in treating covid-19, the disease the novel coronavirus causes, but whose effectiveness has not yet been proved. He said he now spends his days on the phone with doctors, coronavirus patients and hospital executives promoting the treatment, which Trump has also publicly lauded.
[quote]“I discussed it with the president after he talked about it,” Giuliani said in an interview. “I told him what I had on the drugs.”

North Korea is telling the world it doesn’t have a single, solitary case of coronavirus. It’d be hilarious if the lie didn’t stand for untold human suffering.
“Not one single person has been infected with the novel coronavirus in our country so far,” Pak Myong Su, a senior health official in North Korea, told AFP.
Right. North Korea’s only major trading partner is next-door China, where the epidemic started and which let the virus spread for weeks without raising any alarms. And its other neighbor, South Korea, has more than 10,000 confirmed cases.
Said Gen. Robert Abrams, commander of US forces in South Korea, “I can tell you that is an impossible claim based on all of the intel we have seen.”
Fine, the bizarro regime in Pyongyang eventually closed its borders and set up inspections and other precautions — but for all that it loves to pretend to supercompetence, the only thing it actually excels at is telling bald-faced lies.
North Korea never even ’fesses up about its periodic famines — even when it’s accepting massive emergency food aid. And it has reportedly asked for help fighting the virus now: Back in February, Russia said it sent 1,500 coronavirus diagnostic kits, at North Korea’s request, “due to the persisting risk of the new COVID-19.” Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF have both sent other supplies.
Most likely, the bug is spreading almost unchecked in a nation where routine malnutrition has left much of the populace immune-challenged and a beyond-rickety health-care system is collapsing.
Someday, when the people of North Korea are finally freed of the monsters who rule them, maybe the world will be able to distinguish the coronavirus mass graves from all the other evidence of routine atrocities.

R411, are you a moron? R402, R403, and R406 are a copy and paste of a Washington Post story (as cited in 406).
by Anonymous | reply 413 | April 6, 2020 4:41 AM |
Too bad Trump isn’t capable of reading R403’s story and making sense out of it. But he isn’t.
My dad died shortly after being put on a ventilator years ago. After three weeks, they took me aside and said they would have to put in a permanent feeding tube and at that point I made them take him off it. He died after a few weeks.
He ended up having kidney failure and heart failure. They told me that the lungs, heart and kidneys are all connected in a way, that is, if one fails, the others fail too. If you don’t get enough oxygen it just kills your organs. Your heart pumps harder trying to move oxygen around but there isn’t enough, so it wears out. The organs are starved of oxygen so they fail. You end up with just everything collapsing all at once, but it’s slow and gradual.
When people are on ventilators they essentially put them in an artificial coma. They have to. People fight the ventilator or try to pull it out, they panic. They don’t really know what they’re doing. Of course these days people know what’s going on, but it’s very uncomfortable.
With that experience, I think it’s really interesting that they’re being so delicate and not really saying the truth, which is, if you go on a ventilator and are young and strong, you have a chance. But in most cases, if you’re old or have a lot of pre-existing conditions, you just fall apart from the inside out. People have the idea the ventilator is just a temporary helper. But it can’t put off the inevitable for people who don’t have a lot of stamina and good basic health. It’s not a cure all as they’re presenting it at all. Notice some countries are talking about not giving seniors ventilators at all. That’s why.
I wonder what the protocol is about taking people off the ventilator when they are not responding and somebody younger could be using that ventilator. At some point it’s going to have to be hospitals making decisions and not patients’ families, which is going to be a rude shock for these people that want their relatives on life support for years. We can’t do that now.

Trump wants so badly to discover the cure for The Corona, he would probably kill to get his tiny little mitts on it. Even Jared and Trump's Senior Advisor Donnie Jr. wouldn't be safe.

R416, the malaria drug is used today for lupus patients. It’s really important they stay on their drugs steadily without interruption or they get a flare up and can become seriously ill.
Their drugs put them in temporary remission, but any interruption blows that up, and then you don’t know how they’ll respond if they get them back. It’s like starting over again from square one.
I’ve read that thanks to Trump, they now can’t get their drugs, because doctors are writing scripts for it to make money And there are shortages. God knows what’s going to happen to them. And those drugs have horrible side effects, so if users aren’t carefully supervised, they could get heart damage or even die.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Mainland China reported 39 new coronavirus cases as of Sunday, up from 30 a day earlier, and the number of asymptomatic cases also surged, as Beijing continued to struggle to extinguish the outbreak despite drastic containment efforts.
The National Health Commission said in a statement on Monday that 78 new asymptomatic cases had been identified as of the end of the day on Sunday, compared with 47 the day before.
Imported cases and asymptomatic patients, who have the virus and can give it to others but show no symptoms, have become China’s chief concern in recent weeks after draconian containment measures succeeded in slashing the infection rate.
Mainland China has now reported a total of 81,708 cases, with 3,331 deaths.
Daily infections have fallen dramatically from the peak of the epidemic in February, when hundreds were reported daily, but new infections continue to appear daily.

For those earlier in the thread wondering why they are testing animals -- it's because the worst case scenario is that this virus jumps species easily, which, if it does, means it will mutate much faster and in utterly unpredictable ways and we will never see an end to it. We'll be dealing with random outbreaks from now on, and each time it will be as bad as this or worse. Eventually it will produce a real killer and we will see the massive die-off that will end civilization. Most likely that real killer will come from birds, or smaller prey animals that huddle together in large numbers throughout the world like rats, rabbits, or mice.

‘Aliens’ actor Jay Benedict dead at 68 from coronavirus
Actor Jay Benedict, who appeared in “Aliens” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” is the latest celebrity to die from the coronavirus.
He was 68.
“It is with profound sorrow that we must announce Jay’s death on the 4th of April due to complications arising from a COVID-19 infection,” his official website announced.
His agency, TSG, also shared the news “with great sadness,” saying, “Our thoughts are with his family.” No further details were given.
Benedict appeared in a number of major movies, including as Newt’s father in James Cameron’s “Aliens,” and as “rich twit” in the final film of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises,” IMDb shows.
The California-born actor had moved to Europe as a child and conceded that he sounded “more English than American.” In the UK, he found fame in one of the biggest TV soaps, “Emmerdale,” as well as TV detective drama “Foyle’s War,” and was married to actress Phoebe Scholfield.
His voice was as famous as his face, he conceded in his bio, having provided audio for documentaries, ads and video games.
“The irritatingly soothing voice requesting that you take your seat and switch off your mobile phone is quite probably him: so now you know who to blame,” his bio said of his voice-over work in announcements

Duran Duran bassist John Taylor took to Facebook on Sunday (April 5) to reveal that he had tested positive for coronavirus, and is currently on the mend.
Taylor was diagnosed with COVID-19 “three weeks ago,” and has been self-quarantining as per medical protocol.
“Perhaps I am a particularly robust 59 year old — I like to think I am — or was blessed with getting only a mild case of COVID-19, but after a week or so of what I would describe as a ‘Turbo-charged Flu’, I came out of it feeling okay,” wrote Taylor. “Although I must admit I didn’t mind the quarantine as it gave me the chance to really recover.”
“I am speaking out to answer to the enormous amount of fear being generated by the pandemic, some of it entirely justified, and my heart goes out to everyone who has had to deal with real loss and pain,” he continued. “But I want to let you know that it isn’t always a killer, and we can and will beat this thing.”
He concluded on a positive note, telling fans that he “cannot wait to be back onstage again.”
Duran Duran was formed in 1978 and went on to worldwide fame and acclaim during the 1980s and 1990s releasing such hits as “Is There Something I Should Know?,” “Planet Earth,” “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Rio,” “The Reflex” and “Ordinary World” and “Come Undone,” among others.
The entertainment community has been rocked by the unpredictable virus, which has taken the life of Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, country star Joe Diffie, former Sony/ATV Music Publishing executive Neil Lasher, jazz legends Alan Merrill (who penned the hit “I Love Rock and Roll”), New Wave artist Cristina, jazz musicians Ellis Marsalis Jr. and Wallace Roney, and “Jaws” actor Lee Fierro. As much as I hate to say anything good about Donald Trump, I totally agree with his stance about promoting drugs like hydroxychloroquine (and starting any hour now, Ivermectin).
We now know of two drugs that are cheap, relatively abundant, have been used safely for years to treat other conditions, weak evidence that they might help, and good evidence that at worst, they're mostly a harmless waste of money if they don't.
We have an economy whose likelihood of exploding into 1970-style stagflation increases by the day, and people who are feeling hopeless & freaking out.
Under those circumstances, it's CRIMINAL to not widely encourage people to try those two drugs whenever nothing better is available, and possibly in addition to anything else that might be better and available. Collect the data, and disseminate it widely. With millions of people and a rich collection of data, the truth will rapidly become apparent... or at least, the dead ends will.
If the experiment fails, we're really no worse off than we'd have been anyway. If it works, we'll be enormously better off.
Truth be told, trials for a new vaccine are two+ orders of magnitude riskier than guerrilla mass trials of HCQ, Ivermectin, etc. There's the risk it'll cause harm of its own, and the risk it won't work. We'll unquestionably have a vaccine "soon", but doing nothing besides wait in the meantime while people are dying & the economy is going up in flames won't make things better.
The fact is, there are a LOT of drugs that don't work very well, and might not work at all, but we use them anyway because they're generally regarded as safe. Pretty much the entire "cold remedy" market falls into this category.
Go ahead, I dare you... cite peer-reviewed research indicating that phenyleprine is effective as a systemic decongestant. Or if you find one, find another that doesn't conclude that it's EGREGIOUSLY inferior at that task to pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine.
Find anything that suggests antihistamines like diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramins do ANYTHING for a cold besides MAYBE knock you out enough to sleep & cheer you up a bit (hint: both are ACTUALLY antidepressants whose side effects are sedation & antichol.).
My point is, this isn't the time for long, formal studies. Get the drugs out there widely, make them readily available for both prophylaxis & treating mild cases, collect data from everyone, and publish that data quickly & frequently so the truth can organically emerge on its own.
Leave the FORMAL research studies to finding new/better drugs, and improving our use of the existing ones. Let the mass guerrilla studies quickly discern whether existing drugs, taken at dosages known to be safe already, are helpful or not AT those dosages.
It doesn't have to be black/white, either/or. We can, and should, pursue BOTH strategies with the utmost urgency and speed.
If this ends up being Trump's equivalent of making the trains run on time, so be it. He'll still be regarded as a failure. That doesn't mean his use of the office as a bully pulpit to raise awareness about those drugs is WRONG.

NYC to begin temporarily burying coronavirus victims in local parks
Officials will begin burying the city’s mounting coronavirus dead in local parks — as morgues and hospitals struggle to house the corpses, Councilman Mark Levine said Monday.
“Soon we’ll start ‘temporary interment’,” Levine (D-Manhattan) wrote in a series of tweets. “This likely will be done by using a NYC park for burials (yes you read that right). Trenches will be dug for 10 caskets in a line.”
“It will be done in a dignified, orderly–and temporary–manner. But it will be tough for NYers to take,” Levine wrote, adding in another tweet, “The goal is to avoid scenes like those in Italy, where the military was forced to collect bodies from churches and even off the streets.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio was asked about the grim matter during a coronavirus press briefing Monday at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
“We may well be dealing with temporary burials, so we can deal with each family later,” the mayor said in response.
“I’m not going into details,” de Blasio said. “I don’t think it’s a great thing to be talking about.” Hizzoner added, “It’s going to be tough, but we have capacity.”

The REAL pharma dollars will be in the NEW drugs. If you have a deep emotional need to buy into a conspiracy theory, blame THOSE companies for seeding FUD about potential cheap meds that might work too (at least, for prophylaxis & keeping mild cases FROM turning into major ones). Because, frankly, Fauci's own stubborn FUD campaign against those cheap drugs is starting to get seriously annoying. For many people, reasonable & documented historical safety is all the evidence we need to convince us those drugs are worth trying in a pinch. And "pinch" succinctly describes our situation right now.

[quote]It’s not just deaths in hospitals which are up. On an average day before this crisis there were 20-25 deaths at home in NYC. Now in the midst of this pandemic the number is 200-215. *Every day*.
[quote]Early on in this crisis we were able to swab people who died at home, and thus got a coronavirus reading. But those days are long gone. We simply don't have the testing capacity for the large numbers dying at home.
[quote]Now only those few who had a test confirmation *before* dying are marked as victims of coronavirus on their death certificate. This almost certainly means we are undercounting the total number of victims of this pandemic.
[quote]And still the number of bodies continues to increase. The freezers at OCME facilities in Manhattan and Brooklyn will soon be full. And then what?

My friend with lupus takes Plaquenil and she's going blind as a side effect. It can also cause heart failure, permanent nerve damage, and seizures. The testing phase for its use on COVID19 is necessary, but it certainly isn't "harmless."

R462 - I saw that as well. I've been looking at these stats every day and they've been changing.
California was predicted to have 6,190 deaths over the next few months. Now it is 1,783 which is dramatically different.
What I hate about the modeling is that it updates the model as new data comes in. I'd rather see the original projections and then the actual data plotted against the projections. Otherwise we're missing what the isolation and other measures are impacting the crisis.
It is still a very useful tool and it makes me feel better about the timeline and impact.
Last note: the hospital beds and ICU beds by state are a really poor metric of impact. The virus is concentrated in cities - the fact that there are open hospital beds and ICU beds in Rochester or Buffalo, NY are of no importance to people in the NYC area.

[quote]The Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly blasted the now ousted commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt as "stupid" in an address to the ship's crew Monday morning, in remarks obtained by CNN.
[quote]In remarks that were piped over the vessel’s PA system, Modly told the crew that their former commander, Capt. Brett Crozier, was either "too naive or too stupid" to be in command or that he intentionally leaked to the media a memo in which he warned about coronavirus spreading aboard the aircraft carrier and urged action to save his sailors.
[quote]The acting secretary accused Crozier of committing a "betrayal" and creating a "big controversy" in Washington by disseminating the warning so widely.
This guy sounds almost as crazy as Trump. He said all this over the ship’s PA system so the thousands of crew members were all subjected to it (the same crew members who cheered the Commander as he left the ship. And who were all trapped on board in tight quarters with Corona circulating.)

Through music, entertainment and impact, the global live-cast will celebrate those who risk their own health to safeguard everyone else’s.”
The One World special is a spin-off of sorts of the “Together at Home” series Global Citizen has been running online for the past several weeks. Maybe it’s...” What? Some unknown thing that ticks all the boxes and makes me feel super shit? And then they expect you to be better overnight “Checking in! Are you feeling better?” No nation is in bigger denial than the U.S. Oh and then people I’ve known for decades and shared intimate details of my life with suddenly asking me, “Do you have someone to take care of you?” W. TF?! I’m single. In my 50s. Why would I suddenly have someone taking care of me? What the fuck are they talking about? Denial and privilege is strong in the U.S.

Guardian-There were 636 more deaths from coronavirus in Italy on Monday, 111 more than the number registered on Sunday, bringing the death toll in Italy to 16,523, Angela Giuffrida reports from Orvieto. The number of current new infections increased by 1,941, a rise of 2% since Sunday and the lowest day-to-day rise registered since 30 March. For the third day in a row, there was a decrease in the number of intensive care beds in use. Nearly 3,000 new NYC coronavirus cases overnight, total approaches 68,000
Nearly 3,000 more New Yorkers were diagnosed with the coronavirus overnight Sunday into Monday, with an additional three succumbing to the contagion, City Hall statistics show.
As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, there were 67,820 confirmed cases in the five boroughs, with 2,475 now dead, as compared to 64,955 and 2,472, respectively, on Sunday evening.
The toll continued to mount as City Councilman Mark Levine (D – Manhattan) said that the Big Apple may be forced to temporarily bury its dead in public parks.
Queens remains the hardest-hit borough, with 22,767 confirmed cases, followed by Brooklyn, with 18,215, according to City Hall.
The Bronx has the third most diagnoses (13,397), followed by Manhattan (9,624) and Staten Island (3,780).

Look, r475, I know this is hard for someone with blind loyalty to an ideological cause to accept, but it's entirely possible for reasonable adults to think someone (Trump) is a blathering chimp-like idiot without feeling compelled to blindly take the opposite view of everything he says.
Fauci has a point... TO a point... but make no mistake, HE has agendas of his own, too. They might be generally benign, like concern for lupus patients now facing shortages of a med THEY need to live, and a deep belief that it's ethically preferable to let 10 people passively die from inaction than to intentionally gamble the lives of 5 for the sake of 20... but it's completely naive to pretend he doesn't have biases and an agenda that don't necessarily align 100% with your own.
Here's another way to look at it. When Shit Goes Down (a-la-9/11), the people most likely to survive aren't the ones who obediently wait for official permission to save themselves (or knights in shining armor to save them). It's the people who realize they have nothing to lose, and take direct action on their own to save their own ass. They'll probably fail, but for some people, risking failure is preferable to accepting it as inevitable.

Richard Simmons is coming out of retirement (sort of) and doing his bit to help people stay fit during the coronavirus pandemic.
The 71-year-old fitness mogul has been re-releasing workout videos on his YouTube channel for the past three weeks. This, after Simmons has been largely silent on social media for the past six years.
“We have had an overwhelming request for Richard to return in some way as a comfort to all dealing with the pandemic,” a representative for the star told Fox News in a statement. “We thought we would start by re-releasing some workouts and other inspirational content on his YT channel. Richard is very touched by the outreach.”
Simmons has not made any public appearances since 2014 and has only posted the occasional message on social media. This, following his ongoing battle with tabloids and rumors that he was undergoing gender reassignment surgery.

Baby hospitalized with coronavirus after dad goes to grocery store
A British baby boy was left hospitalized with the coronavirus — after his dad got the whole family infected with just one quick grocery run.
“We have been in isolation for 3 weeks, I brought the virus home after a single short visit to Tesco,” dad Peter Jones wrote on Twitter of breaking his otherwise strict lockdown to go to a supermarket.
He said that “3 of us recovered fast our 1 yo was less lucky,” writing, “My baby boy is in hospital tonight recovering from an infection following #coronavirus.”
The Devon dad said he was publicizing his family’s nightmare to highlight how even a quick break of a lockdown could have tragic consequences.
His message echoes the one made in the US, with White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx telling Americans it is “the moment to not be going to the grocery store” or even the pharmacy.
“I want people to know that just one trip out can risk it all!” Jones warned in his series of tweets starting Friday.
“Please don’t go out! Stay at home, and protect your love ones! Please share so others can avoid our experience!”
Jones — whose initial message was liked more than 23,000 times — later updated followers that his son was discharged and recovering at home after getting oxygen and antibiotics.
“We must try & limit visits and follow the guidance to limit risk,” he said, urging people to only leave isolation for real emergencies.
“Please stay safe and please try to avoid going out as much as possible,” he wrote.

Apple is dedicated to supporting the worldwide response to COVID-19. We’ve now sourced over 20M masks through our supply chain. Our design, engineering, operations and packaging teams are also working with suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for medical workers.

It's asinine of private companies competing with states to buy masks. They are just driving the price up for states and the federal government so they can win PR points. Unless they are manufacturing them, they need to not be "sourcing" anything since they are wringing blood from the same stone as everyone else.

Buck would never have gotten COVID-19.

Do you see your Federal government sourcing supplies? Of course, they say they are ..........
Of course the costs are higher now.
How much is YOUR life worth.

The next thread has to be: Death Becomes U.S. as someone suggested earlier on this thread!

R470 is another gullible fool.
I should have went into snake oil sales. Who knew there were so many mindless idiots among us?

That thread has been canceled for jumping the gun.
Almost time to make a new one.

You're really grossing me out with your blood & stones comment.
Do you realize how much Stone Soup is consumed in my village?

Just saw Gov Murphy on the local news saying that NJ just topped the 40,000 mark - 41,090 infected as of today - and that the peak is likely weeks away.

Stone Soup is not dependent on "Just In Time" supply channels and inventories, Darfur Orphan, so you have it better than you think.

R568. The new thread title is good but does not capture the moment. Right now all eyes are focused on the US numbers. The title must be Death Becomes U.S.
Slyvia can you please help?

Not looking good for Boris
CNN-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in intensive care at St Thomas’ Hospital, in London, 10 Downing Street said. "Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital," a spokesperson said in a statement.

wow this really hits it home for the naysayers. Everyone pays attention to the UK, almost as much as they do the US.

R574 Well I certainly hope that someone doesn't tell the Big Orange BlowHole of the United States that finely ground stone powder, derived from the stones in the Village of Darfur, possess magical properties that may possibly wipe The Corona completely off the face of the Earth.

R583 Except lab animal model supports the opposite, meaning antibodies developed against the virus. More likely information from experts is that those negative tests after recovery were false negatives, meaning when the patients weren't cleared. By the time they were retested they still were in the recovery period but had accurate tests that were positive.

Has it been brought up yet about Trump's press conferences and how none of them are practicing social distancing? They're all crowded together and using the same podium and mic.
In my country, we get daily updates from the PM, his cabinet, and the chief medical officers, but they're (the cabinet and doctors) are all seated at a long table, a good distance apart and have their own mics.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | April 6, 2020 8:27 PM |
R586 Obama left him with an antiquated podium and mic system.

I’m eating the mask for the first time today. I have got to Bill collector, DR appointment, blood work and of course I have to get something to eat.
I tried to make a mask out of a tee shirt the you tube lady made look so easy. It was a disaster and I ruined 2 shirts.
