Wondering if there are any Texas results yet

by Anonymousreply 2March 4, 2020 3:42 AM

I'm going with this one. Less nasty.

by Anonymousreply 3March 4, 2020 3:42 AM

Socialism has been defeated!

by Anonymousreply 4March 4, 2020 3:42 AM

Well, we still have California to go.

by Anonymousreply 5March 4, 2020 3:43 AM

Interesting note about Vermont:

In 2016, Sanders swept all 16 of Vermont's delegates. Today, Biden will get 5.

by Anonymousreply 6March 4, 2020 3:43 AM

Thanks for linking back, R1!

by Anonymousreply 7March 4, 2020 3:44 AM

Lawrence O'Donnell seems to be happy Biden is getting more momentum

by Anonymousreply 8March 4, 2020 3:44 AM

it might just be Joe. Did not want Joe originally. Wanted Elizabeth, but it might just be Joe. Might need to deal with that.

by Anonymousreply 9March 4, 2020 3:44 AM

It's not over yet. There are quite a few states left to go before we have a nominee...I do hope Biden's momentum holds.

by Anonymousreply 10March 4, 2020 3:44 AM

it really is quite something that Biden won Massachusetts against a sitting senator of that state AND a sitting senator of a neighboring state PLUS Biden spent no time or money there

by Anonymousreply 11March 4, 2020 3:45 AM

[QUOTE] I'm going with this one. Less nasty.

What’s wrong with nasty?

R11 don't forget Bloomberg was BORN in MA!!!!

by Anonymousreply 13March 4, 2020 3:45 AM

my dream is that everyone gets a grip and does not whine and squirm and pretend what happened did not happen. that is my dream.

by Anonymousreply 14March 4, 2020 3:46 AM

^ OMG, is that MIles????

by Anonymousreply 15March 4, 2020 3:46 AM

Bernie wins Texas AND California. Biden wins the little southern states that people for years have been saying don't matter

BERNIE: CA, CO, TX, UT, VT

BIDEN: AL, AR, MA, MN, NC, OK, TN, VA

by Anonymousreply 16March 4, 2020 3:46 AM

Is that Bel Ami's Kevin Warhol at R12?

by Anonymousreply 17March 4, 2020 3:46 AM

Damn, Gentlemen Joe is kicking ass across Super Tuesday!

Also, Jill and Joe's sister were ready to throw down on those two Dairy wackos. Those trashy bitches were lucky they didn't end up having to be squeegeed off of the stage.

Loved his speech! So much better than that whiny humpback's

by Anonymousreply 18March 4, 2020 3:47 AM

Robert Gibbs said they should get both Bernie and Biden SS protection starting tomorrow after what happened tonight at Biden's rally. But as a former vice president, why doesn't Biden have SS protection already? Or do former vp's not get it for life like former presidents?

by Anonymousreply 19March 4, 2020 3:47 AM

Bloomberg to “reassess campaign,” per CNN.

by Anonymousreply 20March 4, 2020 3:47 AM

[quote] my dream is that everyone gets a grip and does not whine and squirm and pretend what happened did not happen.

And what happened exactly, Mary Lou?

by Anonymousreply 21March 4, 2020 3:47 AM

CNN: Bloomberg assessing next steps... does not want to assist Sanders.

Warren recognizes no path forward.

Zeleny.

by Anonymousreply 22March 4, 2020 3:48 AM

[quote]Bernie wins Texas AND California.

Texas hasn't been called yet.

(Although Dave Wasserman is projecting BIDEN will win TEXAS).

by Anonymousreply 23March 4, 2020 3:48 AM

Texas is so close but I think Sanders might unfortunately pull out a win

by Anonymousreply 24March 4, 2020 3:48 AM

damn It's Joe. I got worries, but if it's Joe, it's Joe. we will all have to deal.

by Anonymousreply 25March 4, 2020 3:48 AM

[All the morons here supporting Biden - are you millionaires? I doubt it. Joe Biden doesn't give a shit about you.]

LOL! Bernie is a multi millionaire! WTF are you babbling about, fucktard?

by Anonymousreply 26March 4, 2020 3:48 AM

Biden now viable in UT, which was the only Sanders state where he wasn't

by Anonymousreply 27March 4, 2020 3:49 AM

[quote]Bernie wins Texas AND California.

Neither TX nor CA has been called.

by Anonymousreply 28March 4, 2020 3:49 AM

There was just a commercial for Fox News on MSNBC. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 29March 4, 2020 3:49 AM

Close isn't a win for Bernie. Not based on expectations.

by Anonymousreply 30March 4, 2020 3:49 AM

I am enjoying what tonight is doing to Trump’s riddled psyche.

by Anonymousreply 31March 4, 2020 3:49 AM

[QUOTE] CNN: Bloomberg assessing next steps... does not want to assist Sanders

Then you shouldn’t have run in the first place, asshole!

by Anonymousreply 32March 4, 2020 3:49 AM

Joe happened r21. It happened. we're done here.

by Anonymousreply 33March 4, 2020 3:50 AM

[quote] Texas is so close but I think Sanders might unfortunately pull out a win

Even if Bernie wins, Biden will get almost as many delegates.

by Anonymousreply 34March 4, 2020 3:50 AM

Will Warren ultimately endorse Bernie? I really don't see her endorsing Biden.

by Anonymousreply 35March 4, 2020 3:51 AM

[quote]Texas is so close but I think Sanders might unfortunately pull out a win

Steve Kornacki made it sound a few minutes ago as if it doesn't even really matter at this point who wins Texas -- whoever wins will do so by a hair and they'll both get a good amount of delegates out of it.

by Anonymousreply 36March 4, 2020 3:51 AM

Wasserman:

One of the keys to Biden's win in TX is rural counties, where he's mostly rolled up good margins on relatively few votes.

by Anonymousreply 37March 4, 2020 3:52 AM

2,260 votes separate Sanders and Biden in Texas

by Anonymousreply 38March 4, 2020 3:52 AM

I kinda do r35, and maybe being Vice President.

by Anonymousreply 39March 4, 2020 3:52 AM

[Quote] All the morons here supporting Biden - are you millionaires? I doubt it. Joe Biden doesn't give a shit about you.

LOL! Bernie is a multi millionaire! WTF are you babbling about, fucktard?

by Anonymousreply 40March 4, 2020 3:52 AM

Itll be interesting if Warren endorses the person whose supporters call her a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 41March 4, 2020 3:52 AM

Warren is toast. I can’t stand her.

by Anonymousreply 42March 4, 2020 3:53 AM

Same day voting turned huge for Biden in most places esp TX. Harris County (Houston) is sitting at 0%. Same day seems to go big for Biden.

I am not in love with Biden but he has finally been showing life. He seems confident and relaxed.

by Anonymousreply 43March 4, 2020 3:53 AM

Biden now down .1% in Texas and less than 2000 votes

by Anonymousreply 44March 4, 2020 3:53 AM

If Warren endorses Sanders she's spineless.

by Anonymousreply 45March 4, 2020 3:53 AM

Biden was never my first choice, but don't try to turn him into Trump. Definitely does care about people who are not billionaires. That is not the problem here.

by Anonymousreply 46March 4, 2020 3:54 AM

Who called TX for Burnie?

by Anonymousreply 47March 4, 2020 3:54 AM

A Bernie Bros, R47

by Anonymousreply 48March 4, 2020 3:55 AM

[quote] Wanted Elizabeth, but it might just be Joe. Might need to deal with that.

You don't just elect a President, you elect his whole team. I get Pete, and even whatever Amy can contribute with a Biden Presidency. I bet Biden recognizes how sharp Liz is and would include her, too, if she doesn't use a flame-thrower on him in the debates.

by Anonymousreply 49March 4, 2020 3:55 AM

wtf r46, put down the pipe. Biden grew up working class himself - remember all the "Scranton" references back in the day?

He may now be somewhat rich himself (as is Bernie, Warren and most of the rest) but he's never lost sight of his roots. You got proof of your assertions, there?

by Anonymousreply 50March 4, 2020 3:56 AM

These Biden wins shatter much of the “conventional wisdom” of 2016 — apparently you don’t have to have huge rally crowds, don’t have to show up in a state and don’t even have to have a ground game in a state.

by Anonymousreply 51March 4, 2020 3:57 AM

I think you are agreeing with me r50.

by Anonymousreply 52March 4, 2020 3:57 AM

If I mis-read you r46 apologies, the board is moving fairly fast tonight.

by Anonymousreply 53March 4, 2020 3:57 AM

I think a lot of us are coming around to Biden. I was definitely not on board a few months ago, I'm not sure I'm entirely on board now, but here we are. I think it is Biden, and I think we need to get on board with that.

by Anonymousreply 54March 4, 2020 3:59 AM

Biden takes the lead in Texas 29 to 28.8

by Anonymousreply 55March 4, 2020 3:59 AM

CNN: Texas now a tie.

by Anonymousreply 56March 4, 2020 4:00 AM

no problem r53 we are all adjusting to new realities.

by Anonymousreply 57March 4, 2020 4:00 AM

Texas a surprise tie between Warren and Tulsi.

by Anonymousreply 58March 4, 2020 4:01 AM

Holy shit, R55! Yes, Joe!

by Anonymousreply 59March 4, 2020 4:01 AM

CNN has been behind all night. Biden has the lead

by Anonymousreply 60March 4, 2020 4:01 AM

[Quote]  I get Pete, and even whatever Amy can contribute

Amy brings WAY more to the table than Pete! C'mon now.

Example: Minnesota

by Anonymousreply 61March 4, 2020 4:01 AM

CNN: Biden ahead in Texas

by Anonymousreply 62March 4, 2020 4:01 AM

Biden has also pulled ahead in Maine by roughly 400 votes per WaPo

by Anonymousreply 63March 4, 2020 4:01 AM

Biden now slightly ahead in Texas

by Anonymousreply 64March 4, 2020 4:02 AM

450 votes separate them in TX.

by Anonymousreply 65March 4, 2020 4:02 AM

Wasserman:

Total 2016 VA Dem primary votes cast: 782,895 2020 VA Dem primary votes cast (99.9% in): 1,321,958

by Anonymousreply 66March 4, 2020 4:02 AM

I really hope the people who did all of Bloomberg's ads go to work for Joe. Those commercials are all spectacularly good.

by Anonymousreply 67March 4, 2020 4:03 AM

Dave Wasserman's early prediction of a Biden win in TX is looking pretty good right now.

by Anonymousreply 68March 4, 2020 4:03 AM

Yes, Joe! Yeeee-haw!

by Anonymousreply 71March 4, 2020 4:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 72March 4, 2020 4:03 AM

More like 2000 votes separate them

by Anonymousreply 73March 4, 2020 4:03 AM

[quote] Amy brings WAY more to the table than Pete! C'mon now.

But I hate her so, and was trying to be (grudgingly) positive about her. Baby steps.

by Anonymousreply 74March 4, 2020 4:04 AM

Sanders supporter Ilhan Omar slamming Liz without mentioning her by name:

Imagine if the progressives consolidated last night like the moderates consolidated, who would have won?

That’s what we should be analyzing. I feel confident a united progressive movement would have allowed for us to #BuildTogether and win MN and other states we narrowly lost.

by Anonymousreply 75March 4, 2020 4:04 AM

I wanted Biden months ago. I wrote him off because it didn't look like he could rally. I'm so happy to see him doing so well tonight. He'll win over swing voters and help in downticket races.

by Anonymousreply 76March 4, 2020 4:05 AM

[quote]Amy brings nothing but combs and staplers.

And hot dish.

by Anonymousreply 77March 4, 2020 4:05 AM

Biden increases lead by .3

by Anonymousreply 78March 4, 2020 4:05 AM

Minnesota hasn't gone to a Republican presidential candidate since Nixon in 1972.

by Anonymousreply 79March 4, 2020 4:05 AM

@PollTroll I'm so glad you're back and feeling better. Take care of yourself. You're one of DataLounges's National Treasures :).

I couldn't post in the other thread, but I was going to say since I live near Memphis that Biden was going to stomp it and Alabama. I know Sanders gets creamed outside of the East and West Coast, but this year I was floored by how many primary voters ( overwhelmingly over age 32) made up their minds to vote Biden and Bloomberg ( I was shocked shitless) in the last few hours. People are discounting Bloomberg. I get spammed with very impressive ads that he is targeting toward southern voters. He's also sending cute letters in the mail. I will never vote for Bloomberg, but I must give credit for his effort.

The interesting takeaway for me is that Sanders is not brining the youth vote. While he does win the youth group, he is not brining out new voters. He also seems to have alienated older ones too. I'm not sure how that happened, but based on the trend of over 35's making up more than half of the primary voter block I don't see how he can win. We all know if a brokered convention happens it's going to a mess which Biden is crowned winner.

I really don't understand how Sanders can stay in this race when he essentially handily loses the black vote. If Pete had to drop out for a similar reason then so should Sanders, but we all know he won't. Sigh... despite his talks of unity he's not showing it with his actions. I will still vote Warren if she's in the race come my primary, but I know it will be for naught. I'm in a sure Biden win state.

Oh well, does Sanders have any path forward now? Logic says no b/c he already won the largest state he was ever going to win, and he didn't handedly win it ( CA). What happens do Pete's , Amy's, and Warren's delegates during a brokered convention?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 80March 4, 2020 4:06 AM

per 538, AP actually still has Sanders ahead in TX, but by only a few hundred votes.

by Anonymousreply 81March 4, 2020 4:06 AM

oh come on, people are still arguing Amy or Pete? really???

by Anonymousreply 82March 4, 2020 4:06 AM

R71: Don’t get hung up on words. By its very nature the Democratic Party is progressive. If it wasn’t progressive there would be no need for a democratic party.

Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unions, civil rights movement, march against the Vietnam war, and marriage equality are all progressive.

by Anonymousreply 83March 4, 2020 4:06 AM

How did Biden turn this around so quickly? Are these votes stemming from a belief in him and his candidacy or are they more tactical to keep Sanders from advancing to the main event against Trump where we would be more viable?

by Anonymousreply 84March 4, 2020 4:06 AM

Yes, r70, but Minnesota was looking to be a horse race today between Bernie and Amy. Amy dropped out, endorsed Biden, and Biden walks away the state's winner.

by Anonymousreply 85March 4, 2020 4:06 AM

Bloomberg will help Joe, who passionately and graciously said he'd work with any Democrat who wanted to work with him to restore dignity to America and take down Trump.

Humpback Sanders droned on about not accepting help from billionaires and the 1%, so if he's the nom, Bloomberg will probably not help him.

by Anonymousreply 86March 4, 2020 4:07 AM

oops! I mean more *vulnerable (not viable)

by Anonymousreply 87March 4, 2020 4:07 AM

Which is exactly the problem with the Bern Unit, R75. They don't play well with others. It's a movement, you see.

by Anonymousreply 88March 4, 2020 4:07 AM

also, too, of course Poll Troll is a national treasure. Wish he would do some predictions now and then, but if that ain't his style, well, so be it.

by Anonymousreply 89March 4, 2020 4:07 AM

weird, im following AP and they have Biden ahead by .3

by Anonymousreply 90March 4, 2020 4:08 AM

This guy on MSNBC in speculating if Biden gets the nomination Bernie will do the right thing.

Why? He didn't in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 91March 4, 2020 4:09 AM

R80, thanks for the good wishes. : )

R89, I've been more cautious about making predictions after 2016, but one thing I will say is that Dave Wasserman is almost always right. So if he says Biden will win TEXAS, you can probably count on him to be right.

by Anonymousreply 92March 4, 2020 4:09 AM

[quote] How did Biden turn this around so quickly?

by Anonymousreply 94March 4, 2020 4:10 AM

sorry to hear that you were ill, PT. i was wondering where you were. glad you are back.

by Anonymousreply 95March 4, 2020 4:11 AM

Not a Biden fan, but he’s turning out people in the suburbs and that’s what we need. I appreciate Bernie’s progressive ideas but it’s not the year for it. Tonight proves we all just want trump gone and Biden is seen as safe. It’s still gonna be tough but Biden is the best we’ve got.

by Anonymousreply 96March 4, 2020 4:11 AM

Why in the world did these doodooheads assume Bernie would win Texas...how stupid are the pundits.? They still believe they know what happened, they do not know that old white voters wanted Joe. These idiots count old white voters, out.

by Anonymousreply 97March 4, 2020 4:12 AM

[Quote] How did Biden turn this around so quickly?

I'm in OK, and the overwhelming number of early votes went to Joe. Those votes were cast before S. Carolina. Joe had the name recognition, the resume, and a quiet momentum; the media just didn't cover it.

I didn't vote for Joe personally, but he had a huge base of supporters, and we've seen that tonight. Pete and Amy dropping out and endorsing helped too.

by Anonymousreply 98March 4, 2020 4:12 AM

fair enough poll troll. you are one of the people, actually the ONlY person on this site that I think everyone actually likes.

so that. but whatever, you are wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 99March 4, 2020 4:12 AM

Biden at 30% vs 28.8

by Anonymousreply 100March 4, 2020 4:13 AM

I think this is 1 time when the media did influence. We began seeing people freak out on news shows about Sanders. We also heard them report that Russia was trying to ensure Sanders wins the primary. I think those are 2 big factors. The South Carolina demolition then gave him momentum

I don't hate Sanders but he hasn't passed many bills in his many years in the Senate. He says a lot of things that simply won't happen at this time. Biden is too moderate for my tastes BUT I think he could be pushed to be more progressive should he win the nomination and presidency so I'll take him gladly

by Anonymousreply 101March 4, 2020 4:13 AM

Is Warren pulling a Hillary and refusing to speak tonight?

by Anonymousreply 102March 4, 2020 4:14 AM

Poll Troll and Treason OP are the only two people I enjoy on this site.

by Anonymousreply 103March 4, 2020 4:14 AM

Liz already spoke in MI earlier tonight r102. No clue if she's going to speak again though.

by Anonymousreply 104March 4, 2020 4:15 AM

I love PollTroll and FCI the most.

by Anonymousreply 105March 4, 2020 4:15 AM

Laughing so hard at Warren. What a pathetic woman. She had the nerve to ask for more money tonight, after getting 3rd in her home state!!!

by Anonymousreply 106March 4, 2020 4:16 AM

Oh R89 the wall of text @R80 xD was just my observations from the night since I couldn't post earlier. I didn't mean to make it seem like I was asking PollTroll to make a prediction.

I was going to comment the gap between Sanders and Biden across the South ( including VA and NC) was going to be MASSIVE. I still have friends in NC and VA and based on our convos Biden was going to steamroll through those states. I was on reddit earlier and tried to tell Bernie fans get ready for disappointment , and I got downvoted into oblivion. I'm a vote blue no matter who type so I have no problems with Sanders, but his supporters (online) can be so toxic sometimes even in the face of facts.

by Anonymousreply 107March 4, 2020 4:16 AM

I prefer Pete and that’s who I voted for in Nevada. But if Biden can beat that motherfucker in the White House I am all in.

by Anonymousreply 108March 4, 2020 4:16 AM

R102 Warren spoke earlier at an event in Michigan, and put a statement a little bit ago saying she’s going to fight on. Bernie has not been seen or heard tonight though.

by Anonymousreply 109March 4, 2020 4:16 AM

I'm pretty sure it is safe to call 2020 reelection for Trump now. Thanks, Biden.

by Anonymousreply 110March 4, 2020 4:16 AM

I think Bootsy-Gumdrop has the cutest name on this site.

by Anonymousreply 111March 4, 2020 4:18 AM

Warren must be smoking Pooh Pooh weed.

by Anonymousreply 112March 4, 2020 4:18 AM

Anyone thinking Sanders has a chance in hell at not giving Drumpf another 4 years is delusional.

by Anonymousreply 113March 4, 2020 4:18 AM

Biden will win Texas 32 to 28 percent.

by Anonymousreply 114March 4, 2020 4:18 AM

So, it's ok for Omar to stoke the Bro Hate against Warren, but she bitches about people hating on her, after some of her comments?

I cannot with that lady.

Warren chose the wrong group to cosy up to. Sad for her. I hope she chooses better for who she gifts her delegates to.

by Anonymousreply 115March 4, 2020 4:19 AM

As long as Warren stays in she takes votes away from Burn Out. I'm here for it.

by Anonymousreply 116March 4, 2020 4:19 AM

Even with all of the races being called so far tonight, Pete is still in third until the few delegates Bloomberg and Warren have picked up are sorted out.

by Anonymousreply 117March 4, 2020 4:19 AM

[quote] Nationwide hatred of the nasty behavior and sleazy tactics of the Berniebros.

Exactly.

Every time I see a Bernie supporter on television, they're either yelling, screaming, talking over people, or telling others how wrong they are.

It's so fucking obnoxious.

Still, it's no surprise that Bernie Sanders would attract that type of person. He's the same way.

by Anonymousreply 118March 4, 2020 4:19 AM

[Quote] Bernie has not been seen or heard tonight though.

Bernie spoke at a rally in Vermont a couple of hours ago.

by Anonymousreply 119March 4, 2020 4:19 AM

Bernie spoke in VT r109 a few hours ago. He did his whole rail against everyone else/only I'm politically pure schtick. Jane looked frumpy. Pretty typical stump speech of his.

by Anonymousreply 120March 4, 2020 4:19 AM

Credit to Mayor Pete (and eventually Amy) for stepping aside and helping unite the moderate lane. If they’d stayed in, we’d be looking at a very different picture tonight. The Democrats did what the Republicans were too stupid to do in 2016. Bravo.

by Anonymousreply 121March 4, 2020 4:20 AM

R110, you're DELUSIONAL. The reason Biden's winning is precisely because everyone knows Trump would CRUSH Sanders in November, if not sooner.

Stop and ask yourself why Trump's been defending Bernie on twitter over the last 2-3 months, and then get back to us.

by Anonymousreply 122March 4, 2020 4:21 AM

[quote] Warren must be smoking Pooh Pooh weed.

by Anonymousreply 123March 4, 2020 4:21 AM

So I guess our hopes are pinned on Biden now. It’s gonna be a long slog until election day. I wonder if he’s up to it. It’s fucking painful watching him try to speak and losing his train of thought mid-sentence.

by Anonymousreply 124March 4, 2020 4:22 AM

Chief Sitting Bull Warren surely has to drop out tomorrow right? I mean what world is she living in

by Anonymousreply 125March 4, 2020 4:22 AM

Thanks, R119 and R120. I missed it.

by Anonymousreply 126March 4, 2020 4:23 AM

yup, i know r124, but here we are. we have GOT to make this thing work.

by Anonymousreply 127March 4, 2020 4:24 AM

by Anonymousreply 128March 4, 2020 4:24 AM

R122 or why the russians want Bernie to win..

Biden/Michelle Obama Will beat Trump.

by Anonymousreply 129March 4, 2020 4:24 AM

She's so upset she's sending mixed smoke signals.

by Anonymousreply 130March 4, 2020 4:24 AM

by Anonymousreply 131March 4, 2020 4:26 AM

[quote] Joe had the name recognition, the resume, and a quiet momentum; the media just didn't cover it

That's precisely why I don't pay attention to them. They clearly have an agenda.

I LOVE that Joe keeps calling them out on it. In his speeches he keeps repeating that the "pundits and the media" were counting him out, and saying his campaign was dead. He really fucking showed them!!!

I laughed when Chris Hayes tried to pull a "well I've been saying all along, not to count Biden out." BULLSHIT!!!! All of MSNBC and CNN counted him out.

Fortunately, the American voter is smarter than that.

We're catching on, not to listen to the media or Trump.

Whenever they say something, DO THE OPPOSITE. That usually means it will be the right choice.

R98 that was my sentiment about the media. It's like they have blinders and don't try to investigate shit. I encourage very Datalounger to go to the /r/politics section of reddit and view the Iowa caucus threads ( they had more than 12). The ones after part 6 were full of " Pete is a rat", " Pete is a corporate shrill, " "establishment Dems. rigging" and etc. Then when Sanders won Nevada which used a similar system , magically no rigging at all. It was insane. Then they promoted stories about Bernie in the lead , and how the popular vote winner should win the Dem. Nomination not the Delegate leader. I almost never post their now, but I wish the media would do a story on it and how a lot of shit you see online is not indicative of real life voters. I knew Biden was gonna stomp tonight b/c I talked to people over 34 who are more likey to vote than a college student xD! I sometimes want to say to the media ", the polls are full of sampling error."

PollTroll@R111 I almost made my name FanOfThePollTroll but opted not to since I didn't have your consent and others might flame me for it. Lol, to be clear, my background is in inferential statistics , so I view you the a lens of jazz student witnessing Ella Fitzgerald give a masterclass.

by Anonymousreply 133March 4, 2020 4:27 AM

why are the lines so long to vote in LA? Democrats are supposed to encourage voting. I understand why the lines in Texas suck because of suppression. California has to do better

I don't understand the hate directed at Warren. Unless you're the CEO of Wells Fargo or Mike Bloomberg's mother, what is with the vitriol and cheesy and offensive Native American allusions? That's the kind of lame shit desperate Trumpsters resort to.

by Anonymousreply 138March 4, 2020 4:29 AM

I am a moderate democrat, but I have nothing against what Bernie believes in or claims to want to do. I just think that he's the wrong driver of this particular movement. He alienates people. If these folks want to start a revolution they need to find a new frontperson with charisma who appeals to a broad range of democrats and one who actually is a democrat. That probably could have been Liz Warren, but she couldn't keep her ass off Twitter long enough.

by Anonymousreply 139March 4, 2020 4:29 AM

[quote] Credit to Mayor Pete (and eventually Amy) for stepping aside and helping unite the moderate lane. If they’d stayed in, we’d be looking at a very different picture tonight.

Even more credit to whoever (Obama?) brokered that shit and secured Beto's endorsement as well.

by Anonymousreply 140March 4, 2020 4:30 AM

Like Clinton, Biden did well in super red states that will never vote Democratic. Looks like 2016 all over again.

by Anonymousreply 141March 4, 2020 4:30 AM

R109 he spoke and ofc covertly attacked Biden. I can't remember his exact phrasing, but it was one of those "establishment is against our revolution" type of sentiments.

by Anonymousreply 142March 4, 2020 4:31 AM

Its Bernie Bros being pissy, R138. I can understand why you mistook them for Trumpers, though. Very similar and twice as fug.

by Anonymousreply 143March 4, 2020 4:31 AM

That's telling.

How many endorsements has he gotten this go around? That'll tell you even more.

by Anonymousreply 144March 4, 2020 4:31 AM

I really hope that Joe will be able to start raising a TON of money, from this point forward. He's really going to need it.

DUMP is raising a shitload of cash, and he hasn't spent any of it yet.

Democratic donors are going to have to empty their pockets and give to Biden's campaign.

The other thing is that he is going to have to pick the right person as his running mate.

One wrong move, and he won't beat DUMP.

He needs to pick another moderate, and I hate to say this, but he has to make a safe choice.

A pick like Lieberman in 2000, can completely tank his campaign.

I would pick a young Midwesterner like Tim Ryan from Ohio, or someone along those lines.

It's critical that he does not fuck this up!

It's such a fucking joke anytime the Rethugs try to make hay of the fact that the Russians are attempting to help Bernie's campaign. Minnesota and Virginia are pretty much blue states now. if they like Biden and he wins the nomination, that should help keep them that way. North Carolina went Democratic for Obama so maybe it's still a possible swing state. The only state Bernie won tonight that matters is a general election us Colorado.

by Anonymousreply 156March 4, 2020 4:35 AM

He'd lose moderates, r150. also the goal is to win swing states not more votes in California.

I'm so hopeful that Biden will take Texas so that it can't be said that he only won the "little" prizes but not one of the two big ones. Either way this has been a great night for him, no doubt, just saying that would be the icing on the cake.

Not a dime. No offices. Not a single ad.

by Anonymousreply 172March 4, 2020 4:44 AM

R168 watching CNN on that right now. If Van Jones is being critical of Bernie’s speech and strategy you know it’s a problem. Bern is on the defensive now.

by Anonymousreply 173March 4, 2020 4:45 AM

R171, and I'm glad I didn't vote early, because it would have been for Pete and a wasted vote otherwise.

[quote] Just read that Biden didn't spend a dime in TX. And he's winning.

[quote] R166 he didn't spend a dime in MN, TX, OR MA. Not a dime. No offices. Not a single ad.

I'd like to say that it wasn't because Biden didn't WANT to spend money there. He didn't do it on purpose.

That's just how cash poor his campaign is. Biden couldn't afford to spend money in those places. In a way, it's pretty fucking sad.

But on a positive note, it also shows the level of support he has from the Democratic electorate. They didn't even have to hear from him in ads, because most people already feel comfortable with Joe Biden.

You can't buy the kind of exposure and name recognition that he had, from being Vice-President for eight years.

It also shows how much people do not want Bernie Sanders to be our nominee.

I'm just ecstatic about the Super Tuesday results!

by Anonymousreply 175March 4, 2020 4:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 181March 4, 2020 4:49 AM

Biden's speech was hopeful and welcoming, but a clear warning to Trump that he and the united Democratic party were going to work to oust his ass from the White House. His appeal to the public to help them do so made me wish that it was already November and I could vote tomorrow for him and the Dem Party to do it asap

Bernie's was same old, same old. He looked terrible, BTW

Pete has 10% in California...the folly of early voting.

by Anonymousreply 193March 4, 2020 4:54 AM

I like that I'm already seeing people who adore Bernie say that they will vote for Joe if he's the candidate. They understand 4 years of Trump not worrying about getting reelected and what that would look like...no way.

It's also my personal hope that Bloomberg will give Joe large sums of money, since he won't be spending it on his own campaign. He said he would invest heavily in the frontrunner.

by Anonymousreply 194March 4, 2020 4:55 AM

How will the media spin this to try to tear down Biden?

by Anonymousreply 195March 4, 2020 4:56 AM

31.1/29.3 in favor of Biden in texas

by Anonymousreply 196March 4, 2020 4:56 AM

Tim Ryan would be great but Joe should be able to pull Ohio on his own since he's from PA.

Joe needs a younger southerner on the ticket. Maybe someone from NC or even Tennessee (weird, I know).

I think that's why a lot of people mention Abrams (that and she has charisma in heaps). How about Gillum? He's been a mayor of a large city, he is well known in Florida and (more importantly) easy on the eyes.

by Anonymousreply 197March 4, 2020 4:56 AM

[quote]I really hope that Joe will be able to start raising a TON of money

by Anonymousreply 203March 4, 2020 5:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 209March 4, 2020 5:09 AM

[quote] Ohio is gone for the Democrats. Biden isn’t winning there.

Absolutely not true. Obama won there in 2008.

Biden can win there, and Tim Ryan from Ohio, along with Biden from Pennsylvania, would do wonders in helping to win back both of those states in 2020.

[quote] It's also my personal hope that Bloomberg will give Joe large sums of money

Claire McCaskill made it abundantly clear, early on in the night, that Bloomberg CANNOT give Biden money.

That would be a clear violation of campaign spending laws.

However, he (and other billionaires) can create Super PACS to put out pro-Democratic messages.

by Anonymousreply 210March 4, 2020 5:09 AM

r207 I just saw one compare this to The Empire Strikes Back in which Barack Obama is the Empire who made phone calls over the weekend and forced millions of us to vote for Joe Biden. Or something. It's Obama's fault, basically.

by Anonymousreply 211March 4, 2020 5:09 AM

R201, the cultists on my FB feed are screaming that everything was rigged behind Sanders back.

They're raging at Pete and Amy for dropping out at the last minute and Beto is a "fraud".

The DNC hates Bernie and they rigged this because they're afraid of him. Oh, and Bernie is still going to win big on the 17th when other states vote.

And if he doesn't win, they will disrupt the convention. Again.

I say, if the lipless spitter couldn't motivate his base enough or make any converts in four years, he won't win anything.

by Anonymousreply 217March 4, 2020 5:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 222March 4, 2020 5:17 AM

R201 Their typical talking points with a few things added:

1) DNC and Establishment Dems rigging !

2) Pete and Amy dropped out and are working with the Establishment install Biden

3) Warren is hurting Bernie by staying in

4) Biden is Hillary 2.0 omg !!! try a moderate/centrist like 2016 this time will be different /s

5) Progressives need to unify like moderates did

6) omg ! people over 34 are fucked up (b/c older people voted Biden)

7) I refuse to vote for an establishment candidate

8) Corporate shills are manipulating the vote

Tim Ryan is a big fucking bore. Zero charisma. Biden needs Pete!

by Anonymousreply 230March 4, 2020 5:24 AM

[quote] I tend to think Biden can't excite people enough to beat Trump

Joe definitely is not the most exciting speaker in the world. He doesn't excite crowds.

However, with Obama, Beto, Pete, Liz Warren, and maybe even Bernie Sanders going to bat for him - speaking to different demographics - that would definitely generate a ton of excitement.

One person I would love to see campaigning for Joe, is Hillary. She doesn't "hate" Joe, so it would be nice to see her on the trail again.

Joe Biden is one of the few people in politics, who is generally liked by everyone.

by Anonymousreply 231March 4, 2020 5:24 AM

Oh R201 I forgot that somehow Pete is still a rat. Lol, they are acting like Pete's helping of Biden is PROOF that the "Dem Establisment" are working behind the scenes to manipulate voting results and ultimately rig the convention. It's honestly scary some of their conspiracy theories just don't make sense. They don't attack Amy as much, but they HATE Pete.

Nevermind that these rules were written in part by Bernie. They conveniently leave that out. God forbid you mention it then it's "fake news" or an establishment talking point. Try it on twitter or reddit if you don't believe me.

R224 the reddit thread keeps moving and assorting by new/best if you scroll down too far. I would copy and paste the comment and its replies that echo it's the Establishment and Amy/Pete are loyal soldiers. The way they are phrasing points 2 and 3 at R223 is that they are all in cahoots making shady deals that lead to Hillary with this time it being Biden b/c "it's his turn" . They are not framing it as Dems helping Dems, but rather centrists with corporate donor interests being loyal shills. Point 3 is somehow Warren's fault ! she is being spiteful to Bernie ! No matter how objectively true a thing is, Bernie is somehow always the victim of hatred.

by Anonymousreply 246March 4, 2020 5:33 AM

All Bernie has proven tonight is that he has a very low support ceiling. Aside from one or two states, he's never really gotten much above 30% of the vote this cycle. The reason for that? Who knows. Disgust with 2016, a combative style reminiscent of Trump, boosters that are as welcome as a slap in the face, a doubling down on the socialism stuff, and an absolute inflexibility. He's an ideological steamroller, and we already have one of those in the White House.

Or maybe it's just that nobody likes him. Maybe Hillary was right.

by Anonymousreply 247March 4, 2020 5:33 AM

I do not understand how anyone can support Biden. He has no policies other than I know Obama and he will be destroyed by that ape Trump in debates. But this party never seems to learn from its mistakes.

by Anonymousreply 252March 4, 2020 5:38 AM

Wasserman predicts Biden will win Texas by 5%.

by Anonymousreply 253March 4, 2020 5:38 AM

If Trump actually shows up to debate anyone, you can be sure he won't destroy them.

by Anonymousreply 254March 4, 2020 5:40 AM

Remember people...

It was Biden who pushed Obama to legalize gay marriage.

by Anonymousreply 255March 4, 2020 5:40 AM

Biden, Bernie, Lizzy, etc. None of these relics will beat Trump. Get ready for four more years.

by Anonymousreply 256March 4, 2020 5:40 AM

A thought I just had is how Bernie had the largest group of supporters when there were multiple candidates, but once people dropped out, the race shifted incredibly quickly away from him.

Can you imagine if more Republicans had dropped out after the early states how different 2016 could have gone? Change a few small things and history would be completely different. It's amazing.

She should probably just go die.

they really are remarkably similar to the hardcore Trumpies.

Biden's surrogates yesterday, really came through for him.

Amy in Minnesota and Beto in Texas. That's the power of surrogacy.

If he eventually gets the nomination, it will be amazing to see Obama and Biden on the campaign trail again.

Ahhhh... the glory days.

She needs to pack up her tepee and go back home.

by Anonymousreply 287March 4, 2020 6:12 AM

People in a certain area of the world with higher IQs than Americans revere their elderly.

by Anonymousreply 288March 4, 2020 6:13 AM

Warren now just seems a bit crazy.

by Anonymousreply 289March 4, 2020 6:13 AM

Here's the cold hard truth, Democrats need a candidate who can win the White House AND flip the senate. If Democrats can't get the Senate, it doesn't matter who is in the Oval Office. For better or for worse, it appears that candidate is Biden. It's only Bernie's hardcore supporter who don't get this and fail to understand it's either get behind the nominee, whomever that is, and vote Trump out, or a a decline into fascism.

Twitter was very interesting tonight. At first the talk was, "Texas and California have all the delegates yet the media is talking like Biden is winning lol," and then a trending topic (after Texas was lost to them) was "BERNIE WINS CALIFORNIA" (literally in all-caps)...and now suddenly there's a ton of resignation. It's either something like "I'm going to puke when I vote for Biden" or "I'm not voting for Biden!" (But don't worry, anybody. This is a small, small slice of the electorate.)

R289, Warren is the most intelligent candidate, perhaps the most intelligent Senator. She's a Harvard professor for God's sake. by Anonymousreply 310March 4, 2020 6:47 AM

You guys think that Bloomberg joined the race too late? I think he would be leading right now if he had been a candidate from the beginning and people had a better chance to get to know him. He missed so many debates and didn't use the chance to present himself and his plans to a broader audience and also lost momentum by not running in the first few primaries. He only took part in one debate and fucked that up, it wouldn't matter that much if he had learnt how to present himself during the early debates and people would forget one bad performance if he had several good ones to make up for it. He really fucked up his chances to win the nomination by joining soooo late. Very bad planning on his part and a tremendous waste of money.

by Anonymousreply 311March 4, 2020 6:51 AM

It'll come down to Biden, Bernie and maybe Bloomberg. What a glaring lack of youth and diversity!

Bernie has no shot now that Biden has awoken the Army of Karens and Chads in suburbia who all vote unlike the Bros who mostly tweet.

California was Bernie's big win and it happened mostly due to votes cast weeks ago

But Bernie has zero path forward in states like CT, NJ, MD, IL, NY where black voters in the cities will team up with affluent whites in the suburbs and older rural voters to provide blow out wins.

If he'll refuse to debate, as your demented hero will.

by Anonymousreply 332March 4, 2020 10:25 AM

I'm watching Morning Joe, and both Joe and Mika are giddy.

They have been pushing Biden for months, and I think that they're actually relieved he did so well on Tuesday.

Joe really can't stand Bernie, mostly because of his political positions. But he also knows that Bernie could never win against Trump, and Joe hates Trump more than ANYTHING.

We can probably expect Biden to be on Morning Joe a lot, before November.

by Anonymousreply 333March 4, 2020 10:32 AM

R129, A Biden/Michelle ticket would sweep every state.

But fuhgeddaboutit. She might be popular, she might be brilliant, but MO is not a politician. I know, I know: Trump. Well, we aren't them.

by Anonymousreply 334March 4, 2020 10:36 AM

I'm telling you all, Biden/Ryan '20 would be a winning ticket.

Tim Ryan is from the crucial state of Ohio, and he's a Midwesterner.

Hillary lost, because she didn't win Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Joe is from PA. Tim Ryan is from OH.

Tim was also running for President before he dropped out, so he must not have any skeletons in his closet. He just didn't have the name recognition to outshine Sanders, Warren, and Biden.

Picking Tim Ryan is a no-brainer.

Many young voters sat out Super Tuesday, contributing to Bernie Sanders' losses

Ledyard King USA TODAY

WASHINGTON – Young voters cheer Bernie Sanders' anti-establishment message. They turn out in throngs at his rallies. And they form the core of his grassroots efforts to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

But their fiery passion did not translate into the robust turnout he needed on Super Tuesday to win a number of key states, notably in the South where a strong showing by former Vice President Joe Biden has made the nomination contest a two-man race.

Exit polls for five southern states that Biden won – Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia – found that young voters did not show up at the polls in the numbers they did in 2016.

^ As I posted earlier, the money and supposed support for Sanders just doesn't add up in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 343March 4, 2020 11:13 AM

What doesn't add up r342?

Young people have never voted at the rate older people vote. Sanders thought he would somehow change that, but he didnt.

by Anonymousreply 344March 4, 2020 11:13 AM

It's going to be Biden/Buttigieg after saying on cam he reminded him of his son. That's a major complement and when it comes to a VP, the best ones are the ones are the ones you would be friends with outside the office. The ani-Pete black vote thing is nullified because they want Biden and they will live with Pete if they have to. Pete brings all the intellectuals to the table. Plus his youth, and military background and he is more progressive than Joe without being a Socialist. Biden didnt talk that glowingly with the other candidates who suddenly endorsed him, not at that level.

I just don't buy that he needs to have a cliche black woman on the ticket to win like Stacy Abrams. She dose nothing for the ticket. Joe already has the that group of voters in his back pocket. Now he needs to find a way to entice the younger people and Bernie Bros. At least Pete is close their age, and he was a Sanders fan in his youth.

As much as I love Pete, and I'm SO PROUD of him, I just don't see this. But, in his defense, there were many who felt that the country wasn't ready for a black man either. While I don't think that he will be VP I do think that Pete will have a very well featured/spotlighted position in a Biden Administration. I believe that Joe wants to give a younger generation experience.

The voters he really needs to focus on are the white Midwestern working class and suburban voters.

by Anonymousreply 353March 4, 2020 11:32 AM

Of course they showed up r352. There were young people who voted and they overwhelmingly voted for Sanders. But when you look at rates, the percentage of young people in the electorate does not match the percentage of older people who vote. Just because they are the loudest, that does not translate into them being the biggest group. The thousands of young people who might show up to rally does not represent all the younger voters who simply don't vote.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump· 1h

So selfish for Elizabeth Warren to stay in the race. She has Zero chance of even coming close to winning, but hurts Bernie badly. So much for their wonderful liberal friendship. Will he ever speak to her again? She cost him Massachusetts (and came in third), he shouldn’t!

The Democrat establishment came together and crushed Bernie Sanders, AGAIN! Even the fact that Elizabeth Warren stayed in the race was devastating to Bernie and allowed Sleepy Joe to unthinkably win Massachusetts. It was a perfect storm, with many good states remaining for Joe!

by Anonymousreply 355March 4, 2020 11:39 AM

LGBTQ voters flock to Bernie Sanders

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans — long a reliable voting bloc for Democrats — made up a disproportionately high 9 percent of the electorate in the Super Tuesday contests, and more than 40 percent of them voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders, according to the NBC News Exit Poll.

The poll, which was conducted in 12 of the 14 Super Tuesday states, found that slightly less than 1 of every 10 voters identified as "LGBT." In addition to the 42 percent of such voters who went for Sanders, I-Vt., 22 percent backed Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts — meaning two-thirds of all LGBT votes went to the two most progressive Democrats on the ballot.

The BernieBots are nasty and vile people. They are probably worse than the Trumptards or one in the same. But, always take note that Bernie really does nothing to stop them.

But, we're going to see that. Republicans are already raising Hunter Biden and the tried & true "Hillary Clinton emails." They're also about to make "The Best of Joe Biden's gaffes" go viral. The Vice President, the campaign, and his supporters, have to be ready for this and ready to combat it.

Nate Cohn

It's been noted that turnout hasn't been up very much in Sanders '16 areas--and even down--so here's a provocative hypothesis for you: a small but nonetheless notable proportion of the Sanders '16 rural vote is now just Trump vote, and it's not going back even if he's the nom.

Michelle as VP would be AMAZING. Can you imagine an Obama kicking Dump out of the WH? Dump would exlode into a million pieces.

Does anyone know if she has political ambition and would consider running for office?

by Anonymousreply 373March 4, 2020 12:07 PM

The Democrats will put half a dozen people on Hunter 24/7 until Election Day to make sure he doesn't so much as take a baby aspirin or side eye a working girl. They will spin the narrative of his drug abuse as survivors guilt and Joe can either shame Trump & Co for bringing it up or appeal to voters as the father of a son who is an addict.

Hunter is a mess but he's Joe's mess and America will see him fight for him, just like he'll fight for America which is also a friggin mess right now, because of Trump. He's gonna fight for America, too.

Joe and the Democrats are going to fight, together, finally. They're going to win. Oh God, they are.

Everyone is talking about the blacks, the blacks, you cant win without the BLACKS! Ok, you had your say, now stop hogging the spotlight and shut the fuck up. How about Hispanics? Asians? "Biden will bring stability"

"Corporate America take interest in Biden victories"

I could work with this...

I HOPE that the Biden campaign will exploit that line that Joe said last line; "DACA people. DON'T GO ANYWHERE! I'm coming!" Beautiful! Just beautiful!

Asians, will be here soon. They just have not made themselves a voting block yet.

Gays? What do you want? I'm confident that Pete will have a MAJOR position in a Biden Administration. Joe supports gay rights, etc. What are you looking for?

Moments like that are what helped me get over my apprehensions about supporting him. I had said that if Warren was in a better position, I'd be for her, but that kind of stuff could have gotten me to switch even if she was still viable.

by Anonymousreply 384March 4, 2020 12:24 PM

The latino vote has been strong for Sanders. Many people have been talking about that r379.

That helped him in Nevada, it helped him in CA, and he helped him make it close in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 385March 4, 2020 12:24 PM

One potential loser tonight is campaigns. Like, in general.

Joe Biden had ONE field office in Virginia. Was outspent 7-to-1 by Sanders and almost 100-to-1 by Bloomberg in all super Tuesday States. Had barely campaigned in any states. And yet...

by Anonymousreply 386March 4, 2020 12:31 PM

Biden needs a VP and partner that can excite the campaign crowds. He needs somebody that is like minded and he gets along well with. There's only one person that fits that bill and it's Pete.

by Anonymousreply 387March 4, 2020 12:31 PM

That comment is plagiarized r386.

by Anonymousreply 388March 4, 2020 12:32 PM

R316, AOC should be crying because the knives are out for her in NYS. Rumors are the establishment Democrats in Albany want to redraw district lines after the census (when the state is expected to lose at least one Congressional seat) to eliminate her district altogether. That would force her to run against another establishment incumbent and the NYS Democratic Party would put all resources into that race.

by Anonymousreply 389March 4, 2020 12:34 PM

R380, those ladies are badasses. They were willing to die for Joe or tear those protesters apart. 100% willing, without thought. Would ANY of Trump's family's have stepped in FRONT of him, if there was a threat? Or run away? Pushed him towards it? We all know that answer.

R387, I believe Joe wants Pete as his VP. The Beau comparison and ...some [choices] are worth losing over...". He wants it to be Pete, even though he knows that some want him to chose an older/straight/female/other ethnic background. He knows Pete is a 'risk', but one losing over. IMO

Stocks surge on Biden's big Super Tuesday : From CNN Business' Paul R. La Monica

Wall Street’s wild week continues, with stocks soaring following Joe Biden's big Super Tuesday wins. Investors view Biden as a potentially more market-friendly Democratic presidential candidate than Bernie Sanders.

Health care stocks in particular were soaring. Coronavirus worries haven't completely gone away, though. The yield on the 10-year Treasury was back below 1%, one day after the Federal Reserve announced a surprise half-point rate cut.

The Dow rose more than 700 points in early trading, or 2.8%

The S&P 500 shot up 2.3%

The Nasdaq Composite gained 2.1%

[quote]I'm of a mind to think that Team Biden is looking to a VP not yet in the race.

I think this is likely.

He said explicitly he won't pick Pete. There's a place for him. It's not Veep. Harris doesn't bring enough tangibles to an election campaign to justify her. Maybe Amy... but I think the pressure on him to choose a black person will be huge and justifiable. I don't think it will be Stacey Abrams... she's young and doing important work now... and pragmatically all she brings is being a black woman. She couldn't carry Georgia in a state election... there's no reason to think she can flip it in the general. Andrew Gillam's experience is modest given his youth and picking him would be a massive, unnecessary slap in the face to Booker.

I read this: the establishment isn't changing this election, black people are. It would be potentially disrespectful not to run with a qualified black running mate. The claim cannot be made they don't exist.

But first he's got to get the nomination. I am very worried about the next debate. Biden's poised to be a fine president but he's usually a terrible debater and his campaigning is uneven. I love the guy and want him to win but I am nervous, especially if Warren is determined to cling on to the end and tries to do a Bloomberg on Biden. She is capable of making mistakes now for which she won't be forgiven within the party.

by Anonymousreply 414March 4, 2020 2:05 PM

I forgot about Jeffries and I forgot about Eric Holder... Jeffries is regarded as a rising star in the party... rumoured as a successor to Pelosi.

So there's Jeffries, Holder, Rice, Patrick, Sellers, Jones, Demming, Booker... that's eight... some longer shots than other but it's evident a Biden VP will be black, with plenty of talented people to choose from.

by Anonymousreply 415March 4, 2020 2:06 PM

Sorry, R411, I like Val Demings, but I do not think she would be a particularly good candidate, and I seriously doubt if she would guarantee a Florida win. R477, at least half of voters over 45 will likely vote Trump in November. I don't know where people think that votes for the Democrats will materialize from, but I don't think this sort of flippant dismissiveness of Latino, youth, or more progressive voters is going to help.

by Anonymousreply 480March 4, 2020 3:13 PM

R479, it seems some people are more interested in appeasing the older voters in Deep Southern states which will never go Democrat in any shape, in any way.

by Anonymousreply 481March 4, 2020 3:16 PM

Young voters overwhelmingly supported Bernie Sanders on Super Tuesday, but not enough turned out to overcome Joe Biden

But turnout among young voters on Super Tuesday was low across the board, and this hurt Sanders big time as former Vice President Joe Biden came out the big winner.

Latinas are going to vote for Biden in November or get deported by Trump.

by Anonymousreply 483March 4, 2020 3:25 PM

Does anyone have the actual % on how many young voters turned out? I heard it was as low as 13%. We're screwed.

I don't want Biden. I'm angry today.

by Anonymousreply 484March 4, 2020 3:25 PM

R478 they couldn't even be bothered to show up for their "Daddy" Burnout... they're not going to show up regardless of whatever pandering any other candidate does.

And that's why no one takes them seriously.

The only power the young vote has is in their own delusional belief in their power. All the screaming and yelling that they won't vote means nothing because everyone knows they wouldn't anyway.

by Anonymousreply 485March 4, 2020 3:26 PM

[quote] I don't think this sort of flippant dismissiveness of Latino, youth, or more progressive voters is going to help.

Who has?

by Anonymousreply 486March 4, 2020 3:29 PM

R485, OK. It's settled then -- Biden is somehow going to win in November with only people over age 45 voting...

by Anonymousreply 487March 4, 2020 3:32 PM

R486, most of the threads about choosing Biden's VP is about how he must choose a black VP because of black voters, despite so many of them being concentrated in southern states which -- while important in a primary -- will go Republican in the presidential general. Not entirely blue/almost blue states with heavy Latino and youth populations like AZ, NV, CO, TX get ignored.

by Anonymousreply 491March 4, 2020 3:38 PM

I am stunned by the turnaround in the party - I am centrist left but know Bernie can't win the general and was despondent just two weeks ago when it looked like 4 more years of Trump.

Bernie Bros are already out in force- tossing around lies about losing the youth vote (what vote- the 13 percent that showed up yesterday?!?!) and the "establishment" (of black people and women?!?!).

I hope Warren drops out after getting embarassed in her own state. I hope she doesn't endorse Bernie (or anyone) because I know alot of Warren supporters who will be heading to Biden if she's out.

R491, that uptick in the young vote sure helped in 2018.

by Anonymousreply 494March 4, 2020 3:40 PM

Burnie fanatics want to screech that they won't vote... and then they get pissed off that nobody cares about their threats and they think everyone else is the asshole.

Typical behavior.

by Anonymousreply 495March 4, 2020 3:40 PM

Yes, and those young voters who showed up in 2018 were not showing up for Burnout.

MSNBC said there were no statistics backing up the idea that the majority of Warren voters would move to Sanders.

[quote]Burn out was the one that got destroyed by the young vote who decided not to turn up and vote for him.

That’s probably why Bernie has been such a failure at getting anything accomplished. He has no strategy. I mean, who bases a campaign around the support of young voters?? A demographic that has always had a reputation for not voting??

by Anonymousreply 499March 4, 2020 3:46 PM

R495, I am very anti-Bernie, wanted Pete, and settled for Biden. But I'm also anti this delusion that some posters have, that they don't think we need a more robust showing (at least at the level of 2018) in the presidential general from young voters.

If only voters over age 45 voted, Trump would win easily.

by Anonymousreply 500March 4, 2020 3:46 PM

Warren will endorse Biden or no one. She wants a cabinet position.

by Anonymousreply 501March 4, 2020 3:48 PM

It’s too bad Warren spent most of her campaign licking Bernie’s taint, when she should have been attacking him.

by Anonymousreply 502March 4, 2020 3:49 PM

No one is saying that we only need voters 45 and over. Obviously you need as many voters as you can get, including young voters, HOWEVER, the point is that those young voters screeching that they're not going to vote are assholes who think they have more power than they do... the ones screaming that they won't vote in protest would not have voted anyway. THAT is the point. Those same people could not bother to turn out for the person THEY WANTED.

So to give these assholes any serious attention is a waste of time.

by Anonymousreply 503March 4, 2020 3:53 PM

Exactly. The same assholes screeching they now won't vote were the same ones just last week harassing people for saying they wouldn't vote for Burnie if he got the nod.

They're hypocritical morons.

by Anonymousreply 504March 4, 2020 3:55 PM

I'm not worried about the youth vote. 2018 had a higher youth vote but Dem victories were mostly moderate progressives, AOC and her crew notwithstanding. In the actual swing states, moderates did best. I'm not worried about all the young Berners in CA and NYC not voting.

Turnout yesterday was particularly strong where Biden won. Shows me that Dems really, really want to get rid of Trump, which is why alot showed up, and they think Biden is our best chance to do it. Certainly the right has no fears about Bernie- Hugh Hewitt went on national tv saying he was voting for him and the Rethugs were urging Bernie voting in open states.

Never Trumpers are ecstatic on Twitter. They wanted Biden and definitely didn't want Bernie. To me, that gives us a real shot at any former Repugs (and there are many) who hate Trump becuase he doesn't govern like a true conservative, particularly fiscally.

I'm not saying Biden will beat Trump. I'm just saying there's no way in hell Bernie would.

[quote]Warren spent most of her campaign licking Bernie’s taint

by Anonymousreply 506March 4, 2020 4:00 PM

I am beginning to think Warren may endorse Biden, which would be a further blow to Sanders. But I think Warren will hold her cards close to her chest for another month or so...but she needs to be careful that she doesn't fall so far off the map her endorsement becomes minimized to the point it doesn't matter who she endorses.

by Anonymousreply 507March 4, 2020 4:04 PM

I think getting young voters to vote is one part enthusiasm, two parts ground game. The ground game equals the surrogates you send out to speak them, getting them registered and voting early.

by Anonymousreply 508March 4, 2020 4:04 PM

[quote] No one is saying that we only need voters 45 and over.

I have definitely seen that sentiment repeated enough here over the last four years where I wonder if some people actually believe it. But I agree with the rest of your post. The screeching BernieOrBust voters were a lost cause from the word go. But there are many decent Bernie voters who will feel alienated, and in the spirit of party unity, I hope Joe makes a couple of overtures to reach out to the more decent ones. We're going to need every vote we can get.

by Anonymousreply 509March 4, 2020 4:05 PM

Bernie will be finished on March 10.

by Anonymousreply 510March 4, 2020 4:13 PM

I hope he's finished on March 10th. But he won't act like it. Will be the baby he was in 2016, crying conspiracy with his cult backing him up.

by Anonymousreply 511March 4, 2020 4:19 PM

[quote]but she needs to be careful that she doesn't fall so far off the map her endorsement becomes minimized to the point it doesn't matter who she endorses.

She’ll fall off the map. She’s run a terribly non-strategic campaign.

by Anonymousreply 512March 4, 2020 4:21 PM

Correct, r397. No matter how much an equitable tax structure we could put into place that would mean no further burden on the Middle Class while offering universal health care (not "healthcare insurance"), Americans would out of hand reject all the above because...."Socialism" Bogey Man!!!

by Anonymousreply 513March 4, 2020 4:31 PM

For such a smart lady, Liz was a total dimwit to throw in with Sanders. So many layers of stupid.

by Anonymousreply 514March 4, 2020 4:32 PM

[quote] It’s too bad Warren spent most of her campaign licking Bernie’s taint

Others have pointed out Warren's value to Biden. She almost single-handedly took down Bloomberg in the debates and helped contrast the Bloomberg in the slick commercials with real-life Bloomberg. Maybe Biden appreciates that.

by Anonymousreply 515March 4, 2020 4:32 PM

She's got to be careful... there is no measurable argument for her to hang in there... at some point she risks looking petty, divisive or clueless. Another Bloomberg type attack on Biden or Bernie or both would play poorly. Pete and Amy both made what at least appear to be surgical decisions to make clean exits. I hope Warren has the common sense to know it's time to go. It's a hard decision, especially for someone who believes so deeply in her mission (Burn is in the same boat) but there comes a time you have to accept you couldn't sell it.

by Anonymousreply 516March 4, 2020 4:36 PM

Medicare for all is a loser position right now and Warren was done when she went there. Yes, healthcare is a mess for millions of Americans but there are union folks (teachers, etc.) who have ridiculously cheap and good healthcare and they are the backbone of the Dem party.

by Anonymousreply 517March 4, 2020 4:36 PM

Liz: don't go all Norma Desmond on us now.

by Anonymousreply 519March 4, 2020 4:37 PM

My guess is Liz was expecting to be Bernie's VP because strategically it made no sense for her to go after the moderates once it became clear that Bernie had the progressive lane locked up. She's a terrible strategist if she thought otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 520March 4, 2020 4:38 PM

[quote]Pete and Amy both made what at least appear to be surgical decisions to make clean exits. I hope Warren has the common sense to know it's time to go.

Warren may be the smartest one in the room, but she has absolutely no common sense.

Pete and Amy are both far more strategic and pragmatic.

by Anonymousreply 521March 4, 2020 4:40 PM

If I had the time I would make a complete list of all of Warren's missteps. This is textbook 101 how not to run a national campaign. I would have originally said don't run a Massachusetts campaign nationally, but it appears that it won't even fly in Massachusetts. That was just embarrassing. Third in her own state? Gurl?!?!

by Anonymousreply 522March 4, 2020 4:44 PM

I would be shocked if a backroom deal wasn't made with Pete and Amy, securing them cabinet positions for backing Biden. It's brilliant, actually, and a way to really unite the party and bring together great political minds and support. I don't think Liz has a place in a Biden cabinet and who the hell knows what Bernie would do.

by Anonymousreply 523March 4, 2020 4:45 PM

[quote]I would be shocked if a backroom deal wasn't made with Pete and Amy, securing them cabinet positions for backing Biden.

You can be sure that a deal was made.

by Anonymousreply 524March 4, 2020 4:47 PM

I wish Bernie and the rest would drop out now and unite the Dems to focus on Trump and the general election. Bernie won't win the nomination. Just give up already and make sure Trump isn't going to be reelected in Nov. Don't waste any more time and resources.

Her endorsement is already irrelevant. She turned off way too many voters than she won over, as the results obviously show.

by Anonymousreply 527March 4, 2020 4:52 PM

[quote]I wish Bernie and the rest would drop out now and unite the Dems to focus on Trump and the general election.

He's not going to do that. He's probably looking at ways to position himself to try and extort something from the DNC

by Anonymousreply 528March 4, 2020 4:53 PM

I know the media wants to make this into a race, but honestly there is no way forward for Bernie.

He's backed himself into a corner.

Biden wins the entire Northeast and Midwest with a combination of blacks, affluent suburbanites and older blue collar/rural voters. Bernie may have some play in places like Oregon or Idaho, places with few black people and lots of Mexican-Americans, but that's about it.

Warren voters are as likely to go to Biden as Bernie--if they were True Believers they would not be voting for Liz.

And now Bloomberg's Billions to support Biden.

I think the race is done, stick a fork in it, except that Bernie will try to to do Biden what he did to Hillary.

The difference is people LIKE Biden so it won't stick. (And 2020 BernBros are far more obnoxious and unlikeable)

by Anonymousreply 529March 4, 2020 4:54 PM

Bernie Sanders @BernieSanders 2h

You cannot beat Trump with the same old, same old kind of politics. What we need is a new politics that brings working class people and young people into our political movement.

(1hr)This campaign is different. We have received 8.7 million contributions from over 1.9 million donors. We don't hold high-dollar fundraisers. We don't have a super PAC spending millions of dollars on TV ads. We don't have a single billionaire donor. We have the people.

Deep down, I think Bernie is relieved that he isn't going to win the nomination. He just had a heart attack a few months ago, for crying out loud. He stayed in the race because he didn't want to let his passionate followers down. But you know he was scared to death of running a general election campaign against Trump, and possibly winning and serving a grueling 4 years after that health scare.

I'm sure Biden is scared, too, but it's clear that he only intends to serve one term.

by Anonymousreply 542March 4, 2020 5:08 PM

If he does it again, that is how we all and history will remember if he is remembered at all. It’s sad that he could have been viewed as instrumental in expanding socialism in the US If he had mentored younger, more pleasant acolytes instead of trying to be the face and voice of it. Doesn’t seem very socialist to be so self centered.

by Anonymousreply 543March 4, 2020 5:09 PM

Bernie supporters remind me of the Beyhive. They are loud fans, not loyal fans. Super Tuesday is to Bernie wHat the spirit album was to Beyonce.

by Anonymousreply 544March 4, 2020 5:10 PM

R542 he could have turned it over to Warren to carry on...but he didn't. He wants this. He's ego driven.

by Anonymousreply 545March 4, 2020 5:11 PM

R542 - I wish I agreed with you. Bernie should never have been in this- he hurt us bigly in 2016 and is one of a handful of reasons why we have Trump. He should have stepped out after the heart attack. He's a miserable egomaniac faux Democrat who would rather burn it down and help elect Trump again than admit he just doesn't have the support.

I would bet good money that his "youth base" is concentrated in states we don't need to win over anyway- NY, CA, VT.

by Anonymousreply 546March 4, 2020 5:12 PM

His “youth base” is concentrated in the Kremlin.

by Anonymousreply 547March 4, 2020 5:13 PM

Warren's poor performance on Super Tuesday wasn't inevitable. She was polling higher in a lot of the Super Tuesday states until the seismic shift that occurred in the race after South Carolina. That wasn't baked into anyone's calculus. I presume there was a fair chunk of her voters that switched over to Biden as a tactical maneuver against Sanders (or vice versa) when it was finally morphing into the two person race between Sanders and Biden that everyone had initially suspected it would be at the very start of this election cycle (a year ago). She was collateral damage yesterday and I say that with a heavy heart as someone who voted for her.

r552, but she was never expected to perform well in South Carolina. It was always the Super Tuesday states where she was thought to be the most viable. It didn't pan out that way for a variety of reasons, some of which couldn't have been foreseen at the outset.

by Anonymousreply 556March 4, 2020 5:20 PM

I would like to take a moment to tip my hat to Obama and Harry Reid, the real power players in the Democratic Party. Reid has one foot in the grave, yet can still pull off masterful political maneuvers. He even pushed Obama to run, not that he wasn’t going to anyway. Reid played defense for 6 years on behalf of the Obama Admin and did his best to get the ACA through the Senate while holding the majority in 2010.

But this resurrection of Biden’s campaign was really something else. The timing was perfect and all of the players hit hit their cues. Don’t underestimate the intelligence of the Democratic Party establishment.

To Sanders, Reid and Obama didn’t forget your crazy idea to primary the first black president in 2012. Thank goodness Reid read your ass the riot act to walk you back from that stupid idea. But some things simply can’t be forgiven. I know my black ass will never forgive Bernie for even considering such a proposal, but I’d vote for him if he’s the nominee. Thankfully, it looks like Biden might be our guy.

Dementia, Alzheimer's, Residual Effects From Surgery.

I've worked for almost 25 years with patients in these categories, and I'm seeing the signs of something noquite right. I hope that I'm wrong, but if he is on the brink of aserios illness, I hope they're not skirting around the issue for political gain. Early treatment for anyone is your best hope.

Liberal radio host/Bernie supporter Thom Hartmann's posits these reasons for Biden's Super Tuesday success:

1. Lots of Republicans showed up to vote for Joe in states with open primaries.

2. Jim Clyburn's endorsement was huge.

3. MSNBC & CNN have been "very unfair" to Bernie and Joe "got wall-to-wall positive coverage."

4. People are frightened of the coronavirus and don't want to take a chance on revolution & change with the new guy.

I do think Joe's health (especially cerebral deterioration) is a big variable if he's the nominee. Gaffes that the Trump Machine will leverage to the degree of Hillary's email BS (and Comey's communications on that caused Trump to win in 2016 - you don't think Trump as President will use everything to win... Barr charging Joe with child molestation... get ready for the shitshow).

But the Dem party really needs a big tent. Thanks to Bernie and all his supporters for bringing critical issues forward. Bernie has changed American politics forever, for the better.

If Joe is the nominee, it's going to be very hard to beat Trump. His message has to be "decency over dirt" - I think Booker would be a good choice for VP because he's very good at exactly that message. Appealing to our higher angels. And importantly, he's from a state who will replace him with a Dem as Senator.

by Anonymousreply 573March 4, 2020 5:39 PM

Anyone know where to find what the Republican voter turnout was yesterday?

by Anonymousreply 575March 4, 2020 5:43 PM

Can't stop laughing at the post saying Burner should get the VP slot. Why?

Democrats have clearly stated their boundaries.... they aren't interested.

by Anonymousreply 576March 4, 2020 5:44 PM

For as l can recall "gaffe prone" has always been used to describe Joe. Go back to when he ran in 2008, it's no different. It's what makes him relatable. Joe has this Jimmy Stewart quality to him.

by Anonymousreply 577March 4, 2020 5:44 PM

To anyone thinking that Burn out feels badly about his place in 2016, WRONG!

He would need a conscience to do so.

He felt entitled then and he feels entitled now.

Plus he needs another summer home.

by Anonymousreply 578March 4, 2020 5:44 PM

And just as a point of amusement - The Sanders campaign was insistent that the candidate with the plurality lead of delegates be awarded the nomination before the convention. I wonder what they say now...

[quote] I don't think Liz has a place in a Biden cabinet and who the hell knows what Bernie would do.

Liz was already in a Cabinet position in the Obama administration.

[quote]But the Dem party really needs a big tent. Thanks to Bernie and all his supporters for bringing critical issues forward. Bernie has changed American politics forever, for the better.

[quote]f Joe is the nominee, it's going to be very hard to beat Trump.

True delusion is believing that Bernard has changed anything "for the better."

Also delusional to think that Biden will have a harder time beating Dotard than Burn out would.

by Anonymousreply 581March 4, 2020 5:46 PM

AOC can be annoying sometimes, but so can everyone else. I basically like her. That said, her very left statements, and occasional gaffes, have been used as a stick by the rightwing agitprop machine to beat the entire democratic party.

It was also the extreme left that was beating the IMPEACH NOW drum right from the start, despite Nancy's warnings that it was courting disaster, and look where impeachment got us. Trump's numbers went up, not down. So I have to admit, I would not miss her either.

by Anonymousreply 582March 4, 2020 5:46 PM

Middle America finds gaffes by old white men endearing. Ask Trump's base.

It's the coastal elites who are bothered by Joe's gaffes (I am one of these people). But who cares about us, we show up and will vote for him in states that he would win anyway.

by Anonymousreply 583March 4, 2020 5:46 PM

The Trump campaign should think twice about using Biden's health or gaffes for their attacks or ads when Trump himself is a big demented retard who can't formulate two coherent sentence or even process simple facts or train of thoughts.

by Anonymousreply 584March 4, 2020 5:47 PM

[quote]If Joe is the nominee, it's going to be very hard to beat Trump.

Typical misunderstanding by people who think a presidential election is a national election. It's not. It's a state by state election. And as we all (should) know, there are certain states that are battlegrounds. They have proven, again and again, that they prefer a guy like Joe to a guy like Bernie.

So, no.

by Anonymousreply 585March 4, 2020 5:48 PM

R580 - Liz didn't run against Obama. She had a much lower profile back then. Hard to wrap her into several cabinet positions after the super left side of the Dem party got shellacked yesterday. To me, yesterday was a firm rejection of Warren and Sanders by most voters.

by Anonymousreply 586March 4, 2020 5:49 PM

A reel of Trump’s gaffes would be ghe length of a film festival. Bloomberg probably already has it compiled.

I think maybe Biden won't have an African-American as VP. I think he's going to talk with Rep. Clyburn and other AA leaders and explain that he's going to nominate an AA woman to the SC (he said this at the SC debate), but first he needs to win, and he really thinks his non-AA VP pick (I'm thinking Duckworth as well) would cinch it. I think he'll sincerely ask them to please be patient with him and accept this so that he can win for them and all of us. I think they love and trust him, and they'll graciously accept his decision and his reaching out to them.

I hope he picks well and that he engages his base in this sincere manner.

by Anonymousreply 589March 4, 2020 5:52 PM

Liz could be Secretary of Education or Housing. I think she would be a great AG, but I get people don't want her in the front row. She is smart and deserves a part of the cake.

by Anonymousreply 590March 4, 2020 5:53 PM

Bernie and Joe are both way too old to be president.

They can deny it all they want, but neither one of them is physically or mentally fit to take on the responsibility of the presidency.

by Anonymousreply 591March 4, 2020 5:53 PM

[quote] 3/10: ID, MI, MS, MO, ND, WA

I think Biden will win in MS, MO, ND.

Bernie will win in ID, WA, MI.

Of course they'll both reach 15%.

Well we wont have to worry about age if McConnell is still Majority Leader since he won't let anything happen anyway.
