Fiona Hill, President Donald Trump's former adviser on Russia and Europe, on Monday testified White House officials were so alarmed by efforts to press Ukraine into opening an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, they raised their concerns with National Security Council lawyer John Eisenberg, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Hill, a former intelligence officer under ex-President Barack Obama, also raised concerns about Rudy Giuliani's role in U.S. foreign policy toward Ukraine during her nine-hour deposition and viewed the recall of Amb. Marie Yovanovitch from Kiev as an egregious abuse of the system by Trump’s allies who were seeking to remove a perceived obstacle.
The impeachment proceedings center around a July 25 phone call Trump had with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy where Trump asked Zelenskiy to launch an investigation into Biden and his son.
Hill, who resigned in August, told lawmakers of a July 10 meeting with Ukrainian officials, then-National Security Adviser John Bolton, and other U.S. officials in which the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland raised the issue of such a probe.
Following the meeting, Hill said Bolton told her to speak with Eisenberg over concerns she expressed regarding the sit-down.
Trump reportedly came into the October 6 conversation with Erdogan underprepared. According to an administration source who spoke to Fox News, his talking points amounted to “Tell Erdogan to stay north of the border.” Unsurprisingly, “he went off script.” That night, the president announced the troop withdrawal, conveniently aligning American policy with Erdogan’s plan for the region for at least two years.

According to Ronan Farrow's new book, The National Enquirer's top editor directed staffers to shred documents when the Wall Street Journal called for comment before publishing the first story about the Enquirer's "catch and kill" relationship with Donald Trump.
Farrow cites editor Dylan Howard as saying he needed to empty the safe and that the editor expressed a need for a shredder.
Howard "appeared to be in a panic," Farrow reports in his new book, titled "Catch and Kill," in a reference to the tabloid world practice of buying and burying stories.
Without explaining exactly how he knows, Farrow writes that "a Trump-related document from the safe, along with others in the Enquirer's possession, had been shredded."

Of course they shredded documents! Not just at the Enquirer. It is my belief, just based on my conviction that we're dealing with some actual gangsters here that people in the WH probably took top secret and other important documents off premises, took them home, etc. and had them destroyed.Computers were also probably wiped and new ones purchased. We are dealing with a serious criminal element here and they've been in the bubble so long, and associating with like-minded people for so long that they don't even recognize it as illegal. They're going to do anything they can to hang on to power. This is not the Nixon gang. Not by a long shot. And now that they're openly invoking Jesus on the opening pages of the State Department's website, and Barr and Pompeo are mouthing Opus Dei sentiments, I'm sure they believe God's on their side. This is like a B movie except Seal Team 6 won't be riding to the rescue.

It is the most humiliating thing I've seen. It sort of encapsulates the whole debacle for us in about 2 minutes. If you can find it again lease post it. I want it to go viral. I want the fucking News Media to run it and ask #MoscowMitch about it. Or #LeningradLindsey. Ask Lamar Alexander, and Susan Collins and Little Marco, and BenSasse, and all the faux hand wringers running around talking about sanctions. It took less than two weeks. Two fucking weeks or less for Trump0 to announce an order that was already a fait accompli, in progress, and war crimes and atrocities and betrayal, and now the downward slide into full out humiliation.
Is Kent, the diplomat testifying today, likely to reinforce the claims of Yovanovitch and Hill?
NYT: George Kent raised concerns to colleagues as far back as March about the pressure being directed at Ukraine by Trump and Rudy Giuliani to pursue investigations into Trump's political rivals.
Kent was pointing to Giuliani's role in what he called a "disinformation" campaign intended to use a Ukrainian prosecutor to smear targets of Trumps. Those included Biden, Marie Yovanovitch and Ukrainians who disseminated info during 2016 about Paul Manafort.

I think Syria and Turkey have really thrown the Republicans in disarray. They might have been able to bullshit us about the Deep State out to get Trump, but adding Trump's betrayal and the foreign policy disaster in Turkey...who has our nukes... is making things exponentially worse.
The more the media focuses on things like the Russians taking a video tour of an abandoned American military base, and the slaughter of our Kurdish allies, calling us cowards, etc. feeling betrayed the domino effects of all this, then it makes it way too hard to defend.
And a lot of these assholes implicated in this are going to have to lawyer up and you better believe Trump won't be footing the bill. He will betray them too. I fully expect KellyAnne to run down the driveway waving her arms shouting "We are all Kurds!" LOL!

To bolster his account that officials did not sound the alarms to him about the Ukraine activities, Sondland is prepared to describe the aftermath of a meeting he had with Energy Secretary Rick Perry and Kurt Volker, the former special representative to Ukraine.
So Sondland is playing semantics. He's protesting that Bolton & Co didn't come to HIM with their concerns about HIM.
Is he dumb or what

Interesting to read in the NY Times that the WH is planning to do an internal investigation about the Ukraine call.
It could be a search for a scapegoat, but it also could be the beginning of a lot of backstabbing and finger pointing and more WH chaos as people increasingly cover their own asses.

I think it’s just an attempt to look like they’re doing the right thing. "We had a perfect investigation by people who actually investigate these things. That’s what they do for a living, you know? But it was a perfect investigation. And it turns out I did everything right. Some people are saying it was the best phone call. So you can call off your impeachment now, okay."

@ r153 Moscow Mitch knows the trial is in the Senate and not the House. The House ie collectiñg testimony and evidence for the record. Exclaiming no Due Process is a red herring. If Trump and his cohorts want their say, then cooperate with submitting documents and providing testimony and their viewpoints under oath. Every person giving testimony is allowed legal counsel to come with them. And all those House Committees have Republican members. Impeachment is a political process, not a criminal trial, though alleged criminal behavior is spurring the impeachment investigative process.

Do the Rethugs really think that they are going to defend the Dotard by arguing “transparency” grounds. Well, that may be all they have.
Look at how this has unraveled in the last several weeks. Their initial argument was that the July 25 call was fine and you should not remove a president for a phone call. In the ensuing weeks we have seen enough evidence to demonstrate that this wasn’t some random one-off request but rather a piece of a much larger coordinated scheme/conspiracy to shake down Zelensky.
Many of the people who have provided this evidence are well-respected career diplomats and civil servants. Their bias is going to be difficult to establish for the Repukes.
When Schiff and his prosecutors lay out the evidence I suspect that it will be so devastating that these cocky, boastful Senators are going to be running for cover.
In the last month this has gotten appreciably worse. Expect Cheatolini’s prospects to take a further downward slide.

“There Is Definite Hanky-Panky Going On”: The Fantastically Profitable Mystery of the Trump Chaos Trades
"Traders in the Chicago pits have been watching these kinds of wagers with an increasing mixture of shock and awe since the start of the Trump presidency. Tthe precision and timing of these trades, and the vast amount of money being made as a result of them, make the traders wonder if all this is on the level. Are the people behind these trades incredibly lucky, or do they have access to information that other people don’t have about, say, Trump’s or Beijing’s latest thinking on the trade war or any other of a number of ways that Trump is able to move the markets through his tweeting or slips of the tongue? Essentially, do they have inside information?"

IMO knowing what kind of people Trump likes to surround himself with, and the way that woman, the former Ambassador to the Ukraine was treated by Pompeo and Trump, etc. Looking at those bowed heads makes me wonder if they would like to lunge across the table and smash Nancy in the face. My father had an alcoholic brother, and when my Aunt pointed her finger in his face he went apeshit crazy and became violent. I also believe they were embarrassed and ashamed of Trump and their own complicity, but having her speak it outloud and call them on it probably unleashed Trump's filthiest reaction. I'd love to have been the proverbial fly on the wall, after she left the room.

Sondland's testimony will be a textbook example of craven/cover-own-ass
He will distance himself from Yovanovitch, Ukraine and anything else he can possibly think up.
Essentially he would rather look moronic than complicit.

NYT: Trump Lashes Out on Syria as Republicans Rebuke Him in House Vote
Mr. Trump dismissed concerns that his decision to pull back had opened the way for Russia, Iran, the Syrian government and the Islamic State to move into the abandoned territory and reassert influence in the area. “I wish them all a lot of luck,” Mr. Trump said of the Russians and Syrians. “If Russia wants to get involved with Syria, that’s really up to them,” he added.

Sonderland was a willing agent for Trump. He carried the message, he worked with Rudy, Mulvaney, Pompeo, and actually ignored Bolton in that meeting, when Bolton said he wasn't ready to arrange a meeting between the POTUS and the Ukrainian President, and the Sondland Took the Ukrainian reps down to some basement room and told they he could get them their meeting with Trump IF they started investigating Hunter Biden and the gas company he was on board with. So he was Mr. Quid Pro Quo. Nothing he says today to exonerate himself even matters. And if he says Trump told him "no quid pro quo" that is the weakest bullshit there is. Because Sondland was working with Rudy and Rudy threw Trump's name around promiscuously. he's a wealthy hotelier who wanted to buy his way in, and be a mini Trump real estate mogul. Fuck him. His wife is a Democrat. He claimed he found Trump's political views repugnant, but he gave him a million dollars? Fuck him.

THE LETTER WORKED. ERDOGAN MET WITH PENCE! TRUMP SCARED HIM!
One has to admire the stage management.
That letter was so ominous that it brought Erdogan to the negotiating table. This is all kabuki theatre. From the letter, to leaking it to the press, to Pence heading there despite Erdogan refusal to meet with him (DOES NOT HAPPEN IN DIPLOMATIC CIRCLES), to finally Pence/Erdogan photographed together. Nothing will happen. But, hey, Trump will say it did the trick: the Kurds are safe, except that ones that are no angels.
Posted on another thread ---
Don't worry if you don't read well -- it's written at a 4th grade level, complete with taunts and exclamation points.
[bold] The letter is not addressed to Erdogan, it's directed at the deplorables.[/bold] The letter shows Trump tried to make a deal with Erdogan, takes the heat off the House resolution condemning the President's inaction by showing Trump working on a peaceful solution. That's the reason for the 4th grade level text.
[bold]It also disrespects the Kurd overture to Erdogan. Trump encloses Gen. Mazloum letter to Erdogan. Think how the Kurds feel seeing the President of the US sending their desperate offer to Erdogan with this cover letter. [/bold]

Hope you all know that part of the mission for Pompeo and Barr flying all over Europe, was to gather evidence to discredit the Mueller investigation and to confirm that the Democrats (Hillary & Obama) were responsible, not the Russians.
They want to make sure the Russians are cleared when it has been confirmed from multiple Intelligence agencies as well as the Special Counsel, Mueller, that it was the Russians. So they want to re litigate the 2016 election as well as manufacture "evidence" for 2020 and they want help doing it.

Daily Beast: Nunes Raised Steele Dossier in Sondland Hearing
Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee that is leading the impeachment probe, said some of the dossier’s contents dealt with Ukraine, and that the Clintons paid for it. Some attendees said it seemed oddly divorced from the topic at hand–namely, whether Trump pressured the Ukrainian government to investigate one of his political opponents.
“It was nutso,” said one person familiar with the exchange. “It was awkward.”
That source added that Amb. Gordon Sondland—America’s envoy to the European Union, who was questioned at the meeting—appeared perplexed by Nunes’ commentary.

I seriously don't know why any European leader would bother to show up at a G7 with Trump. There is absolutely no reason to talk to him about anything. He's dumb as shit, stubborn, angry, hopelessly dishonest, nothing he says is worth anything or can ever be believed. Even if you spent the time and effort to teach him basic economics or climate change or politics or anything else and he wound up agreeing with you on some obvious point that any third grader would understand after ten minutes, he'd just get in some stupid ass mood the next day and totally reverse everything he'd just agreed to. There is absolutely no reason to go through the pretense any more. Just tell him to fuck off and make whatever deal you have to among yourselves.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | October 18, 2019 3:37 AM |
Just so we get a real sense of the character of Putin, as he assumes his leadership role in the vacuum we left by abandoning the Kurds, He had his GRU/former KGB guys plant bombs in several apartment buildings that killed more than 300 people, and tried to make it look like the Chechens did it. He did this to build support for persecuting the Chechens. Of course we know about the poisoned political opponents and people who lost their balance and fell off balconies to their ndeaths, but my point is he was willing to do that, or have it done on a much larger scale if it suits his purpose. Which begs the question: Since we have no plan to deal with ISIS, I wonder if he does. And honestly, I wonder how many acts of terrorism can be traced back either directly or indirectly to him and his policies.
“Here, you’ll have that in spades,” Akerman said. “All these individuals, all testifying that this is what happened. . . . It’s just cascading at this point.”
Akerman said that unlike Nixon’s loyal cadre of aides, Trump’s outer circle of aides and advisers is increasingly unwilling to shield him from what some view as his own dubious behavior.
“This is a situation where you’ve got a lot of people who are career people, extremely smart people who certainly don’t want their reputations smeared,” Akerman said. “Trump had to use these foreign services people and professionals. He didn’t speak Ukrainian and Russian. He couldn’t communicate his threat without these people. He was forced to use people whose loyalty was to the U.S. government and Constitution and not to him.”
And, he added, each new witness and detail seems to reveal a common thread: “You’ve got Trump clearly involved.”

I watched the whole Mattis speech from the other night, and I admire his serious sentiments after the funny sound bites, but I agree that he should say what he said much more plainly and in a non-performative setting. Just drop the analogies with Lincoln and the high-minded talk about coming together, and say exactly what Trump is doing wrong and how we can stop him.

So apparently the Democrats in Congress who support impeachment have consolidated their position in the race to election even in the most competitive districts. The message that needs to be hammered in those districts is "Trump is abusing his authority and putting himself above the law. We need to do what’s right and uphold the rule of law." On the other hands, the Republicans who do NOT support impeachment seems to be on shakier ground. That article is like catnip to read.

R460, I don't fault Mattis. I've been reading about him a lot, and the only reason he said anything at all is because Trump called his name and attacked him. He is known as "the warrior monk." He lives an almost monastic existence, he hasa code, and he is revered and respected by his fellow generals and by the rank and file soldiers. He has a code. I think his speech said a lot about the current situation and Trump. He's not McRaven. He's an historian and an intellectual and he's going to express himself that way. Go back and listen to the speech. His referencing Lincoln's Lyceum speech was pretty damned profound and important. We haven't seem much in the way of that kind of intelligent presentation. Mattis is a good man. He's a patriot, and almost an anachronism.

Unless he resigns first like Nixon — which is completely unlikely — the House will impeach him. Guaranteed.
A few weeks ago, McTurtle and the Senatrice were floating the motion of simply dismissing the indictment counts. Not so much any more because they have seen the detailed reports of what the career diplomats have been saying. They now know they are not going to be able to sweep this under the rug. And, yes, this is going to take a while. Moscow Mitch thinks that this could be wrapped up by Christmas if the House impeaches by Thanksgiving. Yeah, good luck with that. Pelosi controls the timing and she is going to drop the articles of impeachment on her schedule, not Mitch’s.

I still don't Trust McConnell. We need to keep up the #MoscowMitch type pressure because it upsets him. And #LeningradLindseyGraham acts like someone with dementia. He could take a nap, then wake up and contradict himself. No, what needs to keep happening is the polls have to keep getting worse for them. Not just Trump but the polls for the Senate races. And the second thing that has to keep happening is for willing witnesses to desert this rotten hulk of a sinking ship. Because the true heros here are not the Senate or House GOP poll watchers who decide to offer tepid criticism, but the people who ignore Trump's order to stonewall, and come forward in spite of the threats so they can tell the truth. You can bet Trump is going to call for something outrageous. And Nancy needs to tack the Puerto Rico stuff to the Ukrainian stuff. Trump withheld aid to people who needed it and his motive was political.
When I saw the news bullet about the Kurdish journalist and his wife and baby it broke my heart. Richard Engel was on last night talking about how disgusted and sickened the kurds are because of Trump's comments, and this betrayal. There are 250,000 Kurds running for their lives through all kinds of hostile territory, with Turkish militia gangs and other Syrian factions not knowing who to trust, etc. International community and most foreign policy professionals are calling this an ethnic cleansing, and all are holding Trump responsible. People are also talking about the meeting Erdogan and Putin are having in a few days. BTW: Trump and Erdogan have been frenemies for years and know a lot of the same Russian Mafia guys.
I understand Pelosi has to keep the focus on just a few things, but we have a criminal in the White House and if there are similar actions, like withholding aid from Puerto Rico, or other abuses of power they need to go on her short list, because the same thing happened with Watergate. It wasn't the break in...or the cover up...it was also demonstrating a pattern of behavior, and we have that pattern here.
Yes, there are a lot of Russian assets sprinkled throughout government, but Trump is a fucking agent. He has orders and an agenda and he is carrying out his Mission for Putin. He's is a fucking traitor and that word needs to assigned to him. Russia is a criminal state. Organized Crime and the government have merged. This has been true for almost the entire time Putin has been in power....19 years. It started when the old Soviet Union collapsed and all the gas and oil and metals, etc that had been nationalized, owned by the state, were now being broken up and sold off. The billions being made from all of that and the private good squads of professional assassins, who were former KGB or GRU or FSB are all part of it. Putin's control of fuel supplies threatens all of Europe. There's the President in Hungary who is mobbed up and so is Erdogan. We need some strong laws passed and enforced with clear penalties once we get through this.

I order to get rid of Trump by House's impeachment (and Senate's conviction) a whole lot of government officials need to get fired / impeached themselves. Barr, McConnell for once. This chain of firing / impeachment procedures would take as long (if not longer) than the 2020 election (which needs to be safeguarded against Putin and the GOP's meddling by some out of this world Hollywood magic). The problem with Pence replacing Trump, is that Pence will retain much of the cabinet for the year, and new appointments would be drawn from the same pool. Kuchner, Ivanka, Miller, and Mulvaney would be out of the WH quickly.
Though they were say it on record, or in public, many of those House and Senate Republicans wish Trump just resigns, Pence then finishes Trump's term, and Romney runs for 2020. They know Pence is covered in Trump slime himself, and could not win in 2020. Romney would look like an experienced fresh start. Exactly, R537. It's clear that Romney is positioning himself for just that scenario.
We need Trump to stay in office through the 2020 election so he can be defeated by the Democratic candidate and, hopefully, the Senate flips too.
With a comparatively "sane and steady" GOP candidate in place of Trump, a Democrat winning the WH is much less likely IMO, especially if Sanders or Warren is the candidate.
The independents and suburbanites who helped flip the House in 2018 might choose Sanders or Warren over Trump, but not Romney. Mittens will be the seemingly moderate "comfort food candidate" to counter those "damned Socialists" even though he's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Plus we'll have 4 more years of right wing judges getting placed to ensure the Federalist Society takeover of the Judicial Branch.

Adam Weinstein @AdamWeinstein · 3m Read this thread. War crimes and atrocities appear to not only have been expected, but part of the plan when Erdogan called Trump
Rukmini Callimachi @rcallimachi 1. A US official with direct knowledge of events tells me that the US has knowledge that Turkey transported Arab militiamen from one part of Syria west of Manbij into Turkey, to then cross back into Syria alongside the Turkish military in order to fight Kurds.
2. These are the militiamen carrying out atrocities like the execution of a Kurdish female politician (her difficult-to-read autopsy is below). We know Turkey backs these militias. But actually moving them from one part of Syria to another is complicity of a different order.
3. According to the official, the movement of the militia fighters occurred around 2 weeks ago. Turkey didn’t just invade. If true, it planned an offensive *with* these militias, moving them across international borders to get them properly situated in the battle zone.
4. I keep on going over the autopsy of the Kurdish woman. Having traveled to these areas myself, I’ve sometimes nurtured the erroneous thought that my gender would offer me some protection. Who’d kill an unarmed woman? She was dragged by her hair until part of her scalp fell out.
5. For the kind people who are DM’ing messages of concern for my safety, I am thousands of miles away from the battle zone on maternity leave caring for my baby, but between feedings it’s very hard to look away from this.

by Anonymous | reply 551 | October 19, 2019 8:49 PM |
R551 Good point. The forces intending to rig again are not really hidding their intent. Some even gloat about it. Barr will allow it, and appears to be part of the conspiratorial behavior at work. Investigators will be constrained, even pursued for prosecution, if they effectively monitor Trump and his sinister network, domestic and foreign. 2000 & 2004 were domestic cheating. 2016, introduced foreign inteference along with he domestic irregularities. 2020 will have nastier efforts. Operations such as Facebook will do their part again with social media disinformation, despite announced cosmetic changes.
Certain states and precincts will have penetrations and altered tallies. Discovery will be blamed on faulty machines. Then post-election results inquiries will be subdued, declared inconclusive, or not be fully reported.

Trump embarks on Twitter spree amid impeachment inquiry, Syria outrage
by Anonymous | reply 555 | October 19, 2019 10:30 PM |
Richard Engels's tweets about the Kurds are horrifying. Here are a couple:
he top Kurdish commander in Syria, General Mazlum Kobane told @NBCNews he is trying to pull his forces back from Ras al-Ayn, but Turkey is not allowing it. He alleges Turkey does not want Kurdish fighters to withdraw - a condition of the ceasefire - but to kill them.
US officials tell me ALARM BELL RINGING among diplomats in DC that U.S. could one day be held responsible for Crimes Against Humanity for ethnic cleansing of Syrian Kurds by opening the door to it, watching it, encouraging it (Trump's tweets and statements) and not stopping it.
The cease-fire has not stopped. Turkey doesn't want Kurds to be able to leave Erdogan wants to kill them.

[bold]ERDOGAN IS MEETING PUTIN IS SOCHI ON OCT 22[bold]
This whole thing looks extremely coordinated, stage managed. Either Erdogan is planning to massacre to Kurds before meeting Putin OR Putin will "convince" Erdogan of creating the security corridor for encircled Kurds. Putin has played "peacemaker" before.

Erdogan is not grateful to Trump for green-lighting his war crimes campaign. He was deeply insulted by Trump's ridiculous "don't be a fool" letter. I can only imagine what the Saudis are thinking of Trump's brag that he "controls" the oil in the Middle East. Even the people he grovels in front of must hate him.

Whoever started linking Washington Post and other news sources through MSN — THANK YOU!!!! Brilliant idea.
I don’t think that tRump is hoping to stop impeachment by shutting down the government, but instead is going to try and hold the impeachment inquiry hostage to needed legislative actions. He’s going to be in for quite a shock if he thinks that’s going to work.

by Anonymous | reply 567 | October 20, 2019 12:23 AM |
R553 No, not the intent. Suppose it sounded dismal. It is something that has to be addressed before voting to enhance integrity in the system. The media needs to press the matter constantly, not as discouragement, but awareness of the vulnerabilities surfacing. McConnell allowed the vote to distribute the funds after Grover Norquist demanded it. Each state decides how they will use it. A bunch of states still will not be using back-up paper ballots. Not encourging with that complacency, given the recent report on hacking. Congress and watchdog groups must keep the pressure active. Turn-out depends, in part, on accessibility. Combating voter suppression is certainly a motivator.
R554, you are not worth addressing.

We need the fucking Senate. I'm glad House members' support is crumbling. Especially among the assholes who are "retiring." Remember. Barr met with Murdoch. Until we see Fox turning against Trump he can still affect public opinion. I'm betting Barr's strategy is the hang Guliani, and even Sondland. And Trump walks away.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | October 20, 2019 1:11 AM |
It'll be Scooter Libby over again in that case. Although I bet Rudy won't be as loyal as Scooter.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | October 20, 2019 1:17 AM |
I think Rudy is so mentally handicapped at this point that he won't even know how to defend himself or what he's defending himself against.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | October 20, 2019 1:22 AM |
When in 2016 Trump repeatedly claimed that the world was laughing at us and that the Democrats had lost us our power in the world, he was predicting what he himself would do. Everything he says is projection.

I just don’t see how that would work in this case. There is simply too much evidence from multiple sources all pointing to tRump being integral to the scheme. We know what happened. Rudy pumped Cheatolini full of these nonsensical conspiracy theories about Biden. As Bill Maher said, once this dunderhead gets an idea in that empty cranium he won’t let it go (tiny hands, the size of the electoral victory, the inaugural crowd size, etc.). He became obsessed with Hunter and Joe Biden. I don’t think Rudy will be able to save him. And Sondland — he’s not taking the fall for this clown. He has no intention of spending one minute in federal prison. As soon as they start to squeeze him he’ll sing like bird.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | October 20, 2019 1:32 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 576 | October 20, 2019 1:34 AM |

I heard a pundit say last week that the Doral was not a good place to have it. The event is usually held in an isolated or hard to get at locale, and the Doral is in the middle of a busy neighborhood next to an airport.
