I certainly hope Graham isn't doing this shameful act just to hide the fact he is gay. Dear, we ALL know.

Pres Bone Spurs is right on cue ramping up the ugly. The X factor for 2020 is going to be Pres Bone Spurs fatigue. He is likely to get much worse than this. When enough people see this and think of another 4 years of it, will the voters pull the lever for him again?

I've already seeing them set the stage to force action on the deficit. Little by little, some are starting to talk about dealing with the extremely high deficit (during good times which is just insane). Expect the GOP and conservatives to suddenly get deficit fever again so the Dems need to immediately start countering them. First, roll back the tax cuts and watch the deficit plummet. They will be coming for your SS and Medicare.

Btw- there is an odious candidate running for Houston mayor, Tony Buzzbee. On the surface, he seems liberal with his background and rhetoric. He even ran as a Dem for a few races years ago. Yet, he supported our current WH resident, then disavowed him after Access HW tape yet donated $500,000 to his inauguration. He is wealthy and has been blanketing the Houston market with ads. He is a stealth deplorable. Fuck him.

Washington Post: Trump supporters’ newest rallying cry — ‘Send her back!’— reverberates across a nation fraught with racial tension

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 41July 19, 2019 2:49 PM

Politico:

Trump accuses media of siding with freshman congresswomen in 'sick partnership'

President Donald Trump on Friday accused the media of siding with Rep. Ilhan Omar and the other freshman progressive congresswomen with whom he has feuded this week, criticizing reporters’ coverage of the "send her back" chant that broke out at his most recent campaign rally.

“It is amazing how the Fake News Media became ‘crazed’ over the chant ‘send her back’ by a packed Arena (a record) crowd in the Great State of North Carolina, but is totally calm & accepting of the most vile and disgusting statements made by the three Radical Left Congresswomen,” the president wrote on Twitter.

“Mainstream Media, which has lost all credibility, has either officially or unofficially become a part of the Radical Left Democrat Party," he continued. "It is a sick partnership, so pathetic to watch!”

Ilhan Omar. © Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images President Donald Trump attacked the media after news reports showed attendees at his North Carolina rally chanting "send her back," referring to Rep. Ilhan Omar. Beginning last Sunday, Trump has targeted a quartet of high-profile House Democrats — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan — with inflammatory rhetoric, alleging the women of color hate America and should “go back” to their countries of origin.

Of the four lawmakers, only Omar was born outside the U.S. A refugee from Somalia, she became a citizen at 17.

The clash culminated Wednesday night in cheers of “send her back” by the attendees of Trump’s rally in North Carolina as he slammed Omar in his remarks.

The president on Thursday said he “was not happy” with the chant and falsely claimed he “started speaking very quickly” in an attempt to silence the audience. In fact, Trump paused and turned away from the microphone as the crowd yelled, allowing the refrain to build up inside the arena.

Trump’s disavowal followed statements of disgust from several congressional Republicans over the rally display, as well as a meeting earlier in the day in which House GOP leadership conveyed their concerns to Vice President Mike Pence.

Upon her return to Minnesota on Thursday evening, Omar was met by a throng of supporters at a Twin Cities airport chanting, “Welcome home, Ilhan.”

“They even covered a tiny staged crowd as they greeted Foul Mouthed Omar in Minnesota,” Trump wrote online Friday, referring to members of the media.

The president went on to argue that he will win Minnesota in next year's election “because they can’t stand her and her hatred of our Country, and they appreciate all that I have done for them (opening up mining and MUCH more) which has led to the best employment & economic year in Minnesota’s long and beautiful history!"

Hope Hicks, you in trouble gurl! They don't let you have have eyebrow pencils in prison.

by Anonymousreply 43July 19, 2019 2:56 PM

He has jumped the shark and you could almost see a bit of panic in his eyes yesterday when he walked this back. That chant hits LEGAL immigrants hard. This may be the moment he truly fucked himself. All those Cubans, who love to rub it in that they are LEGAL immigrants, got smacked with this chant.

Good! They don't care if you are LEGAL or not- they want you to "go back home" so never forget that, LEGAL immigrants.

by Anonymousreply 44July 19, 2019 2:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 48July 19, 2019 3:06 PM

I think having Hope indicted would be more of a blow to Trump than having any of his sons indicted. There is no way in hell he wasn't hitting that. If not, then she was constantly being harassed by Trump. He even said it himself...When I see a beautiful woman, I can't help myself. NBC released a tape the other day of him with Epstein. It was part of a larger segment on Trump for a morning-type talk show. Trump was all over the woman hosting the show. He even admitted to kissing her while her husband wasn't looking. Tape also showed him basically "grabbing a woman by the pussy" when he was dancing with her. If you put that tape together with the Access Hollywood tape, you have visual evidence of him doing what he says he does to women. The second part of the tape with the interview was actually more important than the part of him oogling women with Epstein.

by Anonymousreply 49July 19, 2019 3:10 PM

I cannot believe ( or maybe I can) the media saying Nancy "opened the door" for him to start in on the Squad. Oh fuck OFF media. My GAWD, really? So Nancy is responsible for giving him an opening for being racist? What the actual fuck is going on with the media? They cannot let him own this despicable action. No, no, no. They must somehow try to blame "both sides". This "both sides" bullshit is WHY we have him.

Huffpo has been having articles saying, "The Dems are ignoring Muslim voters" or "Which side are the Dems on?" nonstop. Just SHUT THE FUCK UP already with this crap. I am not suggesting the Dems are above being criticized but this shit is getting old.

Dems cannot be everything to every group. No one can. So the media needs to just can it. I even heard yesterday someone say, " I mean, if the Dems don't focus on AA women and speak to them, they may stay home." WHAAAT? The media feeds the purity police.

by Anonymousreply 50July 19, 2019 3:13 PM

Doubtful. With people like that it's always, "They're not talking about us they're talking about..."

Which in their minds makes it okay.

I have a colleague who is Mexican, came over as a child, and supports Drumpf. Whenever shit like this comes up he says, "He's not talking about me, he's talking about the Cubans.." OR he'll say, "Well, he's talking about THOSE Mexicans and they SHOULD be deported."

Keep in mind his parents came over illegally.

by Anonymousreply 52July 19, 2019 3:22 PM

When the media uses "both sides" without explaining that the blame is not close to being equal, in the minds of the voters, it is a wash so they have no incentive to change their votes. To them, they hear "both sides" are EQUALLY as guilty so why change who they vote for?

The right wing has perfected this. They know they cannot defend their policies (they don't work) or positions so the brilliant thing they do is just say "both sides" are to blame, implying equally to blame, so no one gets blamed.

So now we have the mainstream and even liberal media doing the same, blaming "both sides" or nitpicking the fuck out of the Dems. THIS will be how we get him reelected. It is 2016 redux.

by Anonymousreply 53July 19, 2019 3:22 PM

r52 Oh, I totally believe you. I hear it all the time. All.the.time. It is sickening. You want to grab them, shake them and either Cher slap the fuck out of them and say "snap out of it" or say, "They're coming for you whether you think so or not." It is the same for gays or blacks who vote for the GOP or him. Or women. They hate us. They tolerate us like those in the Jim Crow South tolerated blacks as long as they stayed "in their place."

The cognitive dissonance they exhibit is truly something. That is why this chant aimed at a legal immigrant resonated. He is slowly chipping away at those assholes who think he isn't talking about them. As we saw last election, it doesn't take much to win.

by Anonymousreply 54July 19, 2019 3:27 PM

Yeah, whatever, R53. He's toast. I went to the local cafe this morning and there was someone signing people up for voter registration and rides to the polls....already. I've had three emails from Move-On about rallies and activism and I'm rural!

The good people of America have been woken up and shaken up by this thug and his corrupt administration of lackeys. The opposition to this shit understands what's at stake.

by Anonymousreply 55July 19, 2019 3:32 PM

r55 Let me be clear, I am not suggesting he will be reelected. I don't see how he will be BUT I was making the point that if the fucking media doesn't wake up and stop the both sides shit, this could be 2016 redux. The media is already going hard in on the Dems.

by Anonymousreply 56July 19, 2019 3:35 PM

A-fucking-men, R56! This is an actual headline by the Washington Post:

> The Daily 202: In the era of no regrets, Acosta and Pelosi are not sorry

Yeah. The Washington Post, who has been critical of Trump, equated what Acosta did (covered up for a pedophile) to what Pelosi did (chastised some members of her party). It's the most frustrating, infuriating thing - but for some, it's "just all the same".

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 57July 19, 2019 3:41 PM

You're right, R56, and I thank you for being civil about your clarification. Was just 'whinging' (thanks, trolls for a new word) about this to a friend this morning over coffee. It's been noticed that they just keep the focus on certain assholes.

I think the MSM is going all in for the ratings because of the embarassment they suffered in 2016 over their terrible polling and being constantly scooped by SM. We may be watching a battle for the control of the information industry and it's fascinating, frustrating, and will probably only get worse before we see some sensibility creep back into their 'cover both sides' mandate.

by Anonymousreply 58July 19, 2019 3:42 PM

"Whinging" is how it is spelled in England and Australia.

In Australia, they even pronounce the first 'g' - whyng-ing. Whine-g-ing.

If you have said Central Americans it would have had more credibility. Mexicans had no problem adopting Cubans. You do know lots of Eastern coast Mexicans have Caribbean roots, including Cuban, Native America refugees, and black slave refugees from the South, right?

Spoiler Alert: it won't.

Mueller will say as little as possible and Trump will throw out some new outrage for the media squirrels to chase after.

by Anonymousreply 63July 19, 2019 4:30 PM

Queerty and right-wing media did this before when Chelsea Handler, a Democratic Underground editor (who is gay by admission), Stephanie Rhule, and others, who have implied, correctly or perhaps a little incorrectly, Lindsey G. is closeted or is compromised someway.

Gays, not the deflectors, Putty trolls, on DL and some other political social media, are pointing out Graham's hypocrisy, not labeling him gay as a slur. His behavior has some stereotypic features such as the hissy-fit at the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. Graham has a long anti-gay record in terms of voting and disturbing rhetoric.

Whose running Queerty? They don't get it or want to get it.

I cannot post the link to the story for some reason, but this is from the Daily Beast:

[quote]George Nader, who was a key witness in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, was hit with new federal charges of sex trafficking for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old boy he transported from Europe.

[quote[An indictment unsealed Friday morning in Eastern District of Virginia also charges Nader with counts of child pornography and obscenity. The charges come on top of separate child-porn charges leveled by the same prosecutors last month.

[quote]Nader pleaded not guilty to all charges during a court appearance Friday.

[quote]Nader, a 60-year-old Lebanese-American businessman with deep political and financial ties to the United Arab Emirates, was a key cooperator in Mueller’s probe of foreign influence in the 2016 election. Nader met several times with individuals associated with the Trump campaign throughout the election and into the early days of the administration. He spoke with officials and advisers on matters ranging from a pitch by a foreign firm for the campaign to use social-media manipulation to regime-change in Iran. (He met with Donald Trump Jr. and other campaign advisors about the plan, which included a proposal to use fake avatars to garner support for Trump, but Trump officials deny they ever considered it.)

R12, I sure hope you're right about Bone Spurs fatigue affecting the 2020 election. As the 2016 election approached I deeply hoped Clinton would win because I knew if Toxic Don won it would be nonstop 24/7 coverage of that sick asshole for a long time. And that is exactly what happened. Most of us had Bone Spur Fatigue before he was elected. The cheaters prevailed, we can't let that happen again.

The outrages continue every day and the media acts like it's something fresh and new, this time he's gone as low as he can go. He IS as low as a person can go. Sick fuck in the gutter, bringing us down to his level. I am sick to death of him and his enablers and try to limit my exposure but he takes up all the air on the planet. It's like nothing else happens anymore but the latest crap spewing from his anus mouth.

Science, art, beauty, nature, literature, music, creativity, they all still exist, hiding in the shadows until this moment of disgrace fades from memory. Let it begin in 2020, I can't take it any more.

more from the Daily Beast

[quote]He also helped broker a key meeting between Erik Prince, the former Blackwater CEO, and Kirill Dmitriev, the head of one of Russia’s sovereign wealth funds, in the Seychelles in January 2017. That meeting came under intense scrutiny by Mueller’s team and was described in its report as one of the ways the Russians tried to influence the incoming Trump administration. Federal prosecutors in Virginia argued last month in court that Nader should be held in jail before trial, based in part on his prior criminal history. That history includes a 2003 conviction in the Czech Republic on charges of abusing minors, including a charge of transporting of a minor boy to the U.S. for sexual purposes. Federal prosecutors said Nader has had “hands-on contact with more than a dozen minor boys.” Nader’s lawyers called the U.S. government’s argument weak because he was later acquitted of the Czech sex-trafficking charge.

[quote]Nader is also charged with transporting child pornography—a charge he’s faced in the past. In 1984, Nader was indicted for possessing child pornography in D.C. The charge was later dismissed after his attorneys argued that the material was found through an illegal search conducted on Nader’s possessions at Dulles. In 1990, again at Dulles, law enforcement caught Nader with films featuring minor boys. Nader pleaded guilty the following year.

[quote]Nader most recently faced allegations of possessing and transporting child pornography in 2018. Authorities stopped him at Dulles in January of that year and questioned him about his time working with the Trump team. Soon after, Nader began cooperating with Mueller, and in the spring of 2018 he departed for Dubai, where he lived until he attempted to re-enter the U.S. last month.

[quote]When stopped at Dulles, the FBI executed a search warrant on Nader’s electronic devices, including three iPhones. After analyzing the phones, the FBI found 12 videos that appeared “to be visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct,” according to a criminal complaint filed in 2018 that remained under seal until last month. Nader is also charged with violating federal obscenity law.

[quote]On June 3, he was arrested at JFK International Airport in New York and transferred to a Virginia jail, where he remains locked up. Last month, prosecutors told a court that FBI agents found dozens of child-porn videos on one of Nader’s phones, with some depicting children as young as 3 years old.

It amazes me that people here seem to believe that the 2020 election will be free of Russian (or other nefarious) interference. I live in Florida where election results have been manipulated for many years (2000 and thereafter, for sure). It saddens me that most people seem to think that the 2020 elections are our last, best hope for getting rid of that orange asshole. I sure as hell wouldn't bet my life on it. In the sixteenth century, New Spain--as Mexico was then called--probably had more enslaved Africans than any other colony in the Western Hemisphere. Blacks were present as slaves of the Spaniards as early as the 1520s. Over the approximately three hundred years it lasted, the slave trade brought about 200,000 Africans to the colony. Many blacks were born in Mexico and followed their parents into slavery. Not until 1829 was the institution abolished by the leaders of the newly independent nation.

What many of us keep forgetting is the reason they were so careless in breaking these laws is because they didn't give them a second thought. Nobody was gonna be charged because there would never be an investigation. Why? Because Trump was NOT supposed to win! They all expected to get paid, get away with their crimes, and continue on. His "victory" changed the stakes.

There is a poster that opposes any post about Lindsey Graham that isn't flattering. Another poster (Mat-type?) is doing the chain Igmur pics to troll whomever she determines has posted comments, articles, tweets, mentioning, or joking about Graham prior. It is projection. A pic of the Miss Lindsay in antebellum attire is suppose to be horrifying?

I, among others, have previously referenced Graham and linked articles. Most are relevant to the news. Graham is Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is targeting issuance of FISA warrants and pursuing investigating and/or prosecution in tandum with Barr, Jordan, Meadows, etc. of earlier DoJ staff and federal agents. That is not minor activity, and it is all to protect Trump, McConnell, cohorts, and themselves.

The aim of the trolls is not to stop themselves from seeing Graham, McConnell, and such critiqued in posts. They could simply block. It is about YOU NOT seeing it. Keep that in mind.

These stupid Repugs simply cannot assimilate facts -of course not written facts, but actual videotaped fuckery going on. Images, not words. How in the hell did they ever get anywhere? This footage and details became public after Meuller's Report was finalized. I even have a suspicion that Barr demanded Meuller to shut down prematurely. Thank God for stupid racists and pervs and grifters.

by Anonymousreply 227July 21, 2019 9:59 AM

There has been a lot of radio silence from the Republican establishment on Trump's racist tweets, even from folks who have left the government and have nothing to lose. I think that the establishment is rethinking its decision to not primary Trump.

by Anonymousreply 228July 21, 2019 12:14 PM

I think this is a huge opportunity for the Democratic nominee and it's this: to call out the Republican Party for its complete moral failure in the last four years. You don't even have to dress it up with a bunch of adjectives, they've been so awful. Just repeatedly express sadness and regret at the death of the Grand Old Party... a rival worth having (we say plenty of things in politics we don't mean but sound great!). Let them argue their way out that. They can't. The whole damned cabal can now defend what they've become. They can't.

by Anonymousreply 229July 21, 2019 1:17 PM

Sadly, r228, even if they are, the Republican Party is pretty much comprised of Dump supporters at this point. So they may want to, but if they’re realists, they get the odds are pretty long. The centrists have pretty much left the party.

by Anonymousreply 237July 21, 2019 4:16 PM

I feel like Trump's racist comments have backed the establishment into a corner. Not only have they lost the mushy independents, they're losing an entire generation. If they don't run a serious candidate to primary Trump and stand up to his racism, it will be decades before the party can recover. Even if their primary candidate lost, at least the establishment can separate themselves from Trump in the future by saying, see, we tried.

Some Republican is going to have to take one for the team and rip Trump to pieces. That Republican's career may take a fatal hit, but sometimes you have to cut off the limb to save the tree.

by Anonymousreply 243July 21, 2019 5:03 PM

Christie's silence has been very notable. Even if he was on vacation this week, he could have tweeted something but he didn't.

Christie has made it clear that he wouldn't primary Trump, but if Christie wants to ever be President, I think this is going to be his only shot. If he tries to run in 2024, some Dem candidate will just show a commercial of Trump saying racist things with the crowd behind him chanting and the commercial asking, Where were you Christie? Why were you silent? The general 2024 election is already a lost cause for any candidate who doesn't condemn Trump's racism. The timing isn't optimal for Christie - Bridgegate is going to be all over the news next year as the Supreme Court considers the issues - but this is the best it's ever going to get. And he's one of the few candidates with the stature and charisma to take down Trump. The white nationalists will never vote for him, but the Trump voters who fall for authoritarians might be persuaded to jump ship.

by Anonymousreply 244July 21, 2019 5:05 PM

Jordan, Meadows, Gaetz, Gohmert, etc., are planning to aggressively attack Mueller with the "seventeen angry Democrats" deflection, and the "blame the investigators" bullshit. That could backfire. Mueller could get pissed at the personal attacks, and unload some sordid details not in the report. Democrats need to stick to probing questions. Congressmen love to granstand before the cameras. Use your 5 minutes to ask the right questions. Extract as much information as possible out of Mueller in the short time allowed. It's a single chance.

by Anonymousreply 246July 21, 2019 5:28 PM

Weld is running against Trump, but since he endorsed Obama in the past, he hasn't a prayer of getting the nomination.

Kasich and Christie both said they wouldn't run unless they saw a path to victory - they weren't going to run for the hell of it. Christie said early on that he wouldn't primary Trump. Kasich confirmed right before Trump's announcement rally in June that he wasn't going to primary Trump. He had considered running as an independent, but somebody with brains must have talked him out of it.

Kasich has 3 problems if he runs - 1) he's anti-Trump, so he won't win over any Trump voters; 2) apparently, he's not very likeable; 3) in the general election, his religion might turn off Dems. But if Christie throws his hat in the ring, Kasich might jump into the ring right behind him, thinking he can clean up what's left after Christie and Trump rip into each other. However, if Kasich was backed by the establishment, I don't think Christie would challenge the establishment.

Maryland's Governor Hogan also expressed interest, but around the same time as Kasich, he said he wouldn't primary Trump. Hogan's problem is that outside of Maryland, nobody knows him. He sounds likeable, but with all of the criticism likely to come down on him for primarying Trump, he doesn't really have the national statute to withstand what's coming.

Flake was talked about as a possible contender, but he's like a damp squib that nobody pays attention to.

CNN has not had great success in picking Republican panelists. But having the job to defend Trump's dirty deeds can't be particularly endearing.

The Hill: Giuliani: Mueller should not testify before Congress

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 263July 21, 2019 7:31 PM

I would like for Mueller to answer that one question: did Barr asked him to shut down the investigation or not. Because I think he did.

by Anonymousreply 264July 21, 2019 8:11 PM

I would like to know how many of the investigations that Mueller referred out have since been shut down by Barr.

by Anonymousreply 265July 21, 2019 8:24 PM

Not getting my hopes up either. Mueller has basically shown he is unwilling to stick his neck out to publicly state what is obvious to the rest of the world. He wouldn't even put it in the damn report, making it as vague as possible.

by Anonymousreply 266July 21, 2019 9:36 PM

Good, then treat him as a hostile witness and grill his damned racist protecting motherfucking ass.

by Anonymousreply 267July 21, 2019 9:40 PM

John Pistole, who served as Mueller’s deputy for years when he was FBI director, told the Washington Post: “For anybody hoping he’s going to provide new information or evidence against the president, I think many people will be very disappointed."

by Anonymousreply 268July 21, 2019 10:09 PM

It really is just a waste of everyone's time to have him appear.

Nothing new will be learned or gained from it.

by Anonymousreply 269July 21, 2019 10:12 PM

R262, are you kidding re: Santorum? He comes across as a fucking moron every time he appears and his arguments are constantly shut down by the likes of Kirsten Powers and Max Boot.

by Anonymousreply 270July 21, 2019 10:17 PM

r254 I think we all understand not to get our hopes up. The only thing we can control is who we vote for.

by Anonymousreply 271July 21, 2019 10:56 PM

r268 No one is looking for any *new* evidence rather we want clarity from Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 272July 21, 2019 11:03 PM

The Dems should have the questions laid out in advance, in series. They shouldn’t be making their own questions up. There ought to be a theme, as the questions progress from one Dem to the next. The questions ought to be like:

When you said you couldn’t clear the President was that because you would have charged him if he was not the President? Etc.

by Anonymousreply 273July 21, 2019 11:26 PM

Mueller accepted the job. Got paid. Worked on it many months. He has a responsibility to elaborate and answer Congressional questions about the report. This attitude of "I'm done", and "I am above it all" is annoying, delaying, and being de facto protective of Trump and cohorts. Give a damn straight-up recommendation instead of vagueness which allows too much 'pick and choose' based political leanings. If Barr forced him to shut-down early, say so and give details.

by Anonymousreply 274July 22, 2019 12:10 AM

R274, Mueller said in his presentation that he was not asked or told to shutdown, early or otherwise, so I think that is out.

by Anonymousreply 275July 22, 2019 12:12 AM

“The Dems”...

by Anonymousreply 276July 22, 2019 12:23 AM

For the past FOUR years r229? Since St. Alzheimer’s they’ve been screwing the country openly, and without lube. Dubs STOLE an election. I can’t stand AOC or the squad (except Pressley she seems sane), but the one thing they’ve done is yank the Dems leftward. They’ve been too complacent and corporatized themselves to really raise hell, and now maybe they’ll show their fangs at last. The GOP are compromised and bordering on enemies of the state.

by Anonymousreply 277July 22, 2019 12:30 AM

I’d love to hear one of the candidates describe Trump as the enemy of the People.

by Anonymousreply 278July 22, 2019 12:34 AM

r268, I'm adopting a "nothing new here" attitude. I believe Mueller will not divulge any surprises and if they push too hard we may hear something we don't want to hear. So this needs tobe done with care.

by Anonymousreply 279July 22, 2019 1:01 AM

I don’t believe that all the indignation we’ve heard, all the upset, anger, shock, and so forth, is just because Trump is vulgar. He is that, but the Dems know more than they can say and more than they can prove, but they know it.

by Anonymousreply 280July 22, 2019 1:05 AM

I'll tell you one damned thing. If we ever get out of this mess, if we ever get a Democratic controlled Congress and a Democratic President,I hope they re-write the damned law for appointing and supervising a Special Prosecutor. Because this situation points to the folly of having him investigating the executive branch and being supervised by the Executive branch, Presidential appointed AG.

It is total bull shit. and the part about whether to shut down an investigation was not followed. There are guidelines for when, if, and how an investigation can be shut down and they were not followed. The decision to make the findings public in a report, and to bring that report to Congress, none of that was done because it wasn't required. Too much was left to the discretion of the Attorney General. It leaves Congress looking important, and the Attorney General with too much power.

by Anonymousreply 281July 22, 2019 2:37 AM

I'm not getting my hopes up either but if Democrats can just get Mueller to confirm the most damaging parts of the Mueller report, that will be blockbuster news because 90% of the fucking country hasn't even read a summary, never mind the whole thing. For the vast majority of the country, the headlines coming out of hearing will be the first time they've heard it

Mueller will not go past what he wrote but he doesn't need to. If he's content to let the repubs attack his character then he's an idiot.

This is the final chance for Democrats to turn the country onto impeachment though. If they allow repubs to be the headline grabbers with the bullshit about "the origins of the investigation (even though we already know it started with a drunken Georgie Paps spilling to the Aussie diplomat), the Steele dossier and the Strzok/Page nothingburger, then they deserve to lose the 2020 elections.

Democrats have very skilled attorneys working with them to practice and anticipate. Let's hope they don't fuck up

by Anonymousreply 282July 22, 2019 3:15 AM

Mueller worked for the American people who paid for the report. His obligations lie with the people - not the DOJ or Barr or the GOP. One of the dems needs to remind him of that at the beginning. He left a lot of questions open in his report and the tax payers would like some clarification.

by Anonymousreply 283July 22, 2019 4:20 AM

Dems better be prepared for this. No fucking showboating. No long speeches. Republicans will do enough of that. I want the dems buttoned up and asking short, probing and relevant questions. Politicians in front of a camera are worse than actors.

by Anonymousreply 284July 22, 2019 4:22 AM

Thought: If Obama had admitted PR and DC as states in 2009, none of this shit would have happened.

by Anonymousreply 285July 22, 2019 11:20 AM

Mueller could respond with, it is in the report, did you read it? I think the attack dog Repubs may make Mueller reveal even more information..wouldn't that be fun?

by Anonymousreply 286July 22, 2019 11:26 AM

I don't trust Meuller at all. He is smug and self- righteous. He can't call a spade a spade. Bill Barr is his best pal. If Meuller can't see how much destruction Barr has inflicted on this country, than the both of them should join the KKK.

Also, I can't understand Stephen Miller. He's Jewish and is insisting that Trump is not racist. Talk about self-loathing. Trump thinks he can exonerate himself from Epstein because he called him a "Jew bastard". Go figure

by Anonymousreply 287July 22, 2019 1:33 PM

Trump is particularly unhinged this morning on twitter. He probably started the day with a big fat line of Adderall. I hope he shows up for a press conference, red, sweaty, sniffling. Good thing though that he can hide the jaw movement in his fat jowls.

The Trump administration, which next year will host the leaders of the world's most powerful economies for the G7 summit, is down to its final few choices after completing site surveys of possible locations — and Trump National Doral, President Trump's 800-acre golf club in Miami, is among the finalists.

I can't believe anyone who follows this wouldn't know there's a difference by now. Look out for that during the hearing. It will mostly be repubs doing it but even in recent media appearances I've head a few Democrats doing it too. Hopefully all the Democrats asking questions won't be that stupid on Wednesday. R319 Theoretically, yes, it might have made a difference.

Assume DC: Two Democratic Senators, and one Democratic Representative.

Assume PR: One each, Democratic and Republican Senators, and 3 of 4 Democratic Representatives. The extra four Representatives wouldn't have gotten us much, though it would have been good to have the extra votes. But with three Democratic Senators? We would have gotten the public option as part of Obamacare. And that? That would have made all the difference in our healthcare today.

Just my thoughts. YMMV

by Anonymousreply 371July 23, 2019 4:08 AM

Total waste of time.

Either just impeach Barr or drop it already and focus on 2020.

Mueller cannot be trusted to honestly assess his fellow Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 372July 23, 2019 4:11 AM

Basically if all they do is get Mueller to confirm the material in his report that he himself has already given, it will be enough. He can sit there and read the fucking report on live TV and the media can run clips of it for a week. The point is to get more people to PAY ATTENTION to the information in the report.

All the hypotheticals are a waste of time. If the Dems go down that road he will resist and they will look bad. Let the fucker read his own report. That report is damning. All he has to do is confirm. Do not try to get him to go somewhere he doesn't really need to go, nor legally that he can resist.

He has said he will not deviate from the report. Respect that. (I'm no Mueller fan, but they're trying to game us so we need to be smart.) Let him "clarify" if you can get it, but the report has some incredible shit and it needs to be publicized better. He can do that if he is handled the right way.

All Barr's posturing means nothing. He lied and mischaracterized the report. Now we get the full deal by the fucking author. He isn't going to take it back, and he will only soften his language if he is pushed too hard. Barr looks real bad right now. Right out in public he is looking very desperate. I don't think Mueller asked for the latter. I think Barr wants us to think Mueller asked for it.

by Anonymousreply 373July 23, 2019 4:49 AM

I have little faith in Meuller. However, isn't Meuller allowed to verbally recite the parts of the report that emBARRASS has previously redacted. I know the House was doing what they could to see the redacted portions, but in their usual losing fashion, they let it go and forgot.

by Anonymousreply 374July 23, 2019 7:40 AM

Mueller asked for that letter from DOJ. It is in response to a memo he sent them on July 10 asking them to clarify the DOJs perameter in testifying. He wanted something official to use as an excuse not to state anything outside the report. However, since the Justice Committee has oversight of the DOJ, I think it is more than appropriate for them to ask him questions regarding process i.e. why didn't you subpoena Trump? Why did you give Manafort, Gates, and Flynn "sweetheart deals" in exchange for their testimony if you weren't going to for anyone above them? You state in the report that you have evidence of Trump's Intent in the Obstruction case, yet you never state what that intent was. Was it to Obstruct the investigation? Barr stated that you didn't do your job in not coming to a conclusion on the Obstruction cases, since he seems to believe that the DOJ memo wasn't a factor in determining whether a sitting president can be indicted, why do you? Why was the Russia portion of your investigation limited to two official Russian governmental agencies? Common knowledge of Russia, knows that Putin works primarily through a series of UNOFFICIAL Russian oligarchs who seemed to be all over the Trump Campaign. Why was the evidence of Trump's Campaign manager providing Russia with campaign updates and proprietary election data not considered Coordination? Who lied to you during the investigation? Were these lies detrimental to the case? Why didn't you subpoena Don Jr., Jared, Ivanka? There are lots of process questions that Mueller needs to answer. The public paid for this report and has a right to understand how the process worked or what caused it to fail.

by Anonymousreply 375July 23, 2019 1:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 376July 23, 2019 1:13 PM

R375, you raise good points. If Mueller tries to stone wall the committee, they can make him look bad simply by reciting those kinds of points. There were so many loose ends left out here the committee ought to responsibly push on those. If they can't get Mueller to deviate from the report, they can at least make it clear this was a whitewash, and a sloppy, incomplete mess, and make Barr & Mueller look bad. Mueller's reputation and the reputation of his lawyers is going to be spotlighted. If Mueller is bullied by Barr, I'm expecting some of those lawyers to start leaking big time.

by Anonymousreply 384July 23, 2019 2:53 PM

Why don't they call the other lawyers who worked with Mueller to testify?

by Anonymousreply 385July 23, 2019 2:58 PM

R385, I think most of them are trying to not have their careers derailed. A lot of them respect Mueller too much, but I think they will push back eventually. There was one in particular who had a reputation for being tough in court, and he was among the first to leave as things wrapped. I would love to hear from his ornery ass. Don't remember his name.

by Anonymousreply 386July 23, 2019 3:04 PM

Junior just called Democrats "scumbags" in a tweet. He doesn't explicitly write Democrats, but you can read it between the lines.

This guy was all up in arms when Hillary called half of the Trumpists "deplorables".

I also love that Donnie keeps tweeting there is no "there there" in the report, nothing, nada, but instead of asking everyone to read it (because, you know, since there is nothing at all incriminating, all the people should read it), he urges people NOT to read it. Non sequitur much?

by Anonymousreply 387July 23, 2019 4:42 PM

Well, they can try. But if they don't get Mueller to reveal anything new and shocking, the media (not just Fox) is going to paint it as a fail for Democrats.

Frank Figluzzi said yesterday on Nicolle Wallace’s show that Mueller is not some wilting flower who is going to let people mischaracterize him or his report (and he stated this as someone who had experience being on the other side of a forceful Mueller moment back when he was his boss.) He said that Mueller would be cutting, and extremely clear if he is confronted with some complete bullshit (see whatever Gym Jordan pulls out of his hole). So, although my expectations are rather low for this from a bombshell perspective, it was encouraging to hear that from someone who knows the man quite well.

(Something's got Jim spooked!)

by Anonymousreply 390July 23, 2019 5:22 PM

I think the Republicans on the Committee will probably slobber up to Mueller first and try to get his good graces. If things start to go south, then they will rip into the whole thing and say it was a waste of money. witch hunt, etc

by Anonymousreply 391July 23, 2019 5:23 PM

How can they say it was some huge ware of money when, if you factor in the Manafort seizures, the whole thing actually MADE money? I hope someone has a nice, clear statement about that fact ready to go. It makes the GOP look like lying assholes yet again.

by Anonymousreply 393July 23, 2019 5:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 394July 23, 2019 5:59 PM

I've been thinking about it. Especially since Boris Johnson just became Prime Minister in the UK. I wish we had a Seal Team Six type operation to go and take out Vladimir Putin and his top oligarch guys. He started all this shit. He has been fucking with us in the Middle East making a peace plan impossible since the late 70's mid-80s. He runs his terrorist operations through Iran and Syria and he always has. He subsidizes Hezbollah in Lebanon and he was instrumental in flooding Europe with refugees from those countries and the African countries . He weaponized the internet and has become expert in cyber attacks. Completely rogue nation with a shit economy and a population of long suffering alcoholics and dissidents. His goal to destabilize Europe and America is right on schedule. He has energized and helped grow the Extreme Right globally, and will take us back to the late 30's. He's a filthy piece of shit and so is anyone associated with him. Including Trump, Manafort, Flynn, and the rest.

IF all he does is read the report, slowly and deliberately, I'll be happier than I've been since the Barr blowoff.

It will become apparent, as the convictions and spin-off investigations are listed and noted, what the fuck they've been doing over at FOX and in the administration to brainwash and obfuscate supporters. They will see, for themselves, what wasn't shown and what was covered up or excused in the propoganda. Maybe it will change a few minds.

Since the Iran-Contra scandal, the lack of indictments for the bankers in 2008/09, and our WMD delusion in Iraq, I've given up hope for real justice and put all the coins in the karma box for an impeachment in name only. Let the historical record be made that this is a corrupt administration and that the people were not happy.

I would also want a ban on all deplorable 'panels' of support from MSM. No one cares what these racists think anymore.

The report is cagey. You need to be a lawyer and smart to understand how bad it is for Trump. How it discreetly calls for impeachment. He should dumb it down for the audience, but he won’t. In my dreams:

“Why, yes, Senator, if the President wasn’t President, I would have charged him with conspiracy with a foreign power, being an unregistered foreign agent, emoluments violation, and with obstruction. It’s as plain as day. Even a Republican should understand this.”

I'm actually really curious how Mueller deals with the repubs who try to tear his work apart.

lmfao at desperate reporters today saying they had BREAKING NEWS that the repubs were going to zero in on 1) how the investigation started 2) the Steele Dossier and 3) Page/Strzok

I mean anyone who's been following this already knew that's what they're going to try doing

but I want to see Mueller deal with that. Will he give vague answers and let them trash him? Will he get pissed off ?

if he answers like that I'll be so fucking pissed. That would allow Barr to claim authority instead of Congress doing its oversight

R430 that's exactly how I think he's going to respond.

by Anonymousreply 431July 24, 2019 2:30 AM

and see that's the issue. Trump, Barr, repubs and Fox "News" count on the fact that the majority of the country does not know how our government works and the laws. They therefore can act out of order and defend breaking protocols convincingly.

the mainstream media better cover this the right way.

by Anonymousreply 437July 24, 2019 2:58 AM

You only need the House to impeach and the Democrats have enough votes if all of them vote for impeachment.

But it won't happen. Nancy Pelosi won't allow it, and a good many Dems don't want to vote for it either, they'd rather let this lying cretin of a president get away with all his crimes.

by Anonymousreply 443July 24, 2019 3:17 AM

it's not about repubs. The moderate Democrats and Pelosi do not want impeachment either. They will only go for it if the public opinion polls show a significantly higher desire for impeachment. If the needle doesn't move after this hearing, we're not getting impeachment. I'm curious how many people out there are undecided. Obviously the overwhelming amount of the country has not read even a summary of Mueller's report. We know the 40% Trump cultists won't change. How about independents?

I'm really unhappy with Pelosi and the moderate Dems being so cowardly. If Trump gets reelected and they never had even an impeachment inquiry, this will fall on them. We know the repubs are scum. Democrats are supposed to be much better than that.

I'm not getting my hopes up for tomorrow but I'm just curious to see if there's ANY change in public perception

by Anonymousreply 450July 24, 2019 3:42 AM

I will gladly take back all my complaints if I'm wrong and Mueller helps the country tomorrow. If he gives vague, confusing answers that will not help anything. by Anonymousreply 451July 24, 2019 3:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 453July 24, 2019 3:50 AM

well again I think it's right wing media that has changed the game. Nixon didn't have this back in the 70s though he wanted it. The repubs didn't have to bow to right wing media pressure and social media from angry right wingers yelling at them for not loyally following the president into the abyss.

Trump is insulated with the assholes on Fox screaming conspiracy theories and bullying repubs into not speaking out against him. Then the repub base is getting that loop of Trump and Fox saying the same things so they believe it.

by Anonymousreply 454July 24, 2019 3:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 456July 24, 2019 4:07 AM

by Anonymousreply 457July 24, 2019 4:12 AM

Let’s just admit that this country is going down the shitter and is basically late 1930s Nazi Germany. The camps and executions are coming. It’s time to move on to somewhere else. A fucking Baby Boomer ego (Trump) has ruined everything. After all this shit plays out, like Germany, you won’t be able to speak about this time in history. Sorry but there is no immediate remedy for all this. WE ARE FUCKED.

by Anonymousreply 458July 24, 2019 4:31 AM

I am worried (call me a concern troll if it makes you feel better as I don't give a fuck) that if a Democrat asks Mueller would he have indicted Trump if not for the policy stating we don't indict sitting Presidents, he'll give some fucking vague confusing answer that could be interpreted as a no by people who are stupid and by the right wing media trolls. That would be a clip they would play over and over again. A lot of people simply do not understand or have patience for nuance and we have learned by now Mueller likes to give nuanced answers.

Let's hope that doesn't happen but who knows

by Anonymousreply 459July 24, 2019 4:45 AM

what I'm hoping for is that the repubs really overreach with their attacks and end up looking stupid. I want it to backfire big time on them but who knows

by Anonymousreply 460July 24, 2019 4:48 AM

[quote]It's really sad when over 50% of the population think the president is batshit crazy and there is no way to get rid of him.

It's even more sad that over 50% of the population (by representation, at least, because so many fuckers can't be bothered to vote) knew he was batshit crazy and voted that way and it didn't matter then, either.

R459, Mueller could say, "Fuck yeah, I would have indicted his ass faster than he can tweet a lie!" and the criminal right wing media would still find a way to spin it.

by Anonymousreply 468July 24, 2019 12:32 PM

Mueller is in the room.

by Anonymousreply 469July 24, 2019 12:32 PM

It was smart of Nader to state early on that the investigation ended up costing zero dollars.

by Anonymousreply 470July 24, 2019 12:36 PM

Mueller looks like he's paying more attention to what the Rethug is saying to him more than he was when Nader was speaking.

by Anonymousreply 471July 24, 2019 12:40 PM

Really these Rethugs want to act indignant that "gossip," should not be used to set off uncalled hearings?

HAHAHAHA.

by Anonymousreply 472July 24, 2019 12:41 PM

[quote]You only need the House to impeach and the Democrats have enough votes if all of them vote for impeachment.

The House had a vote on whether to move forward with impeachment last week. Only 95 Democrats voted in favor of it. You think the Mueller testimony is going to sway the other 136?

by Anonymousreply 473July 24, 2019 12:45 PM

So Mueller just confirmed he's not going to say anything about anything.

by Anonymousreply 474July 24, 2019 12:52 PM

r473, I didn't say that. I said that hypotheticially, if all the Democrats in the House voted for impeachment, they could carry the vote for it. Which is absolutely true.

I know they're not all for it, and sadly, I doubt this Mueller testimony will cause enough of them to change their minds. At least as long as Pelosi is so adamantly against it.

It seems like Mueller needs a Red Bull or something. He’s not speaking very forcefully and there are lots of ums, uhs, and “what page again?”

by Anonymousreply 482July 24, 2019 1:44 PM

Because R482, he knows the Rethugs are lying liars and he doesn't trust their quoting. He's also very well aware that they'll ask him lying, misleading, questions to trap him.

But he'll still wont turn away from them.

by Anonymousreply 483July 24, 2019 1:46 PM

R471, the Republicans are hostile to him—of course he is going to pay more attention to them.

And what happened today is exactly why the person screeching, "Troll!" was completely wrong. People were not wrong to not have any expectations that Mueller was going to do anything other than refer to his report and choose to not answer questions.

by Anonymousreply 494July 24, 2019 4:41 PM

What they needed to make clear was:

Robert Mueller has said that if he could have said Drumpf DIDNT commit a crime he would have. He didn't do that which means Drumpf committed crimes.

by Anonymousreply 495July 24, 2019 4:44 PM

He was asked that, R495, and acknowledged that the report does indeed say just that.

Yes, R499. Nancy is going to dust off her magic wand and instantly get the 218 votes she needs to Impeach. Then she can hold a news conference and tell us how the House did their job, but McConnell is blocking them. Yet again. (At last count we didn't even have 100 votes for Impeachment.) People think the House Democrats will march robotically toward what ever Pelosi wants as if she can hypnotize people into doing her will. These are Democrats. Not Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 501July 24, 2019 8:04 PM

R501: So, do not do the job of the House (start impeachment for wrong doing) because the corrupt Senate won't remove. Sounds like a winnimg strategy! Let's see how that works out in the next election. The House flipped for a reason. This is not it.

by Anonymousreply 502July 24, 2019 8:12 PM

No, R502, it has to get passed in the House first and the votes aren't there. How will that strengthen the Democrats' position or Pelosi if they initiate Impeachment hearings the the articles of Impeachment FAIL in the House? Think. Don't be stupid.

by Anonymousreply 503July 24, 2019 8:15 PM

Declaring an impeachment inquiry will facilitate testimony and strengthen court avenues to compel witnesses to testify. Executive Privilege can no longer be cited to avoid testimony.

Thanks R505. You get it.

by Anonymousreply 506July 24, 2019 8:22 PM

Eric Swalwell just said on MSNBC that he sees impeachment inquiry as the next step.

by Anonymousreply 507July 24, 2019 8:22 PM

R503, I DID NOT say "do nothing." I simply pointed out that the votes are not there and that the possibility of an Impeachment vote failing in the House would be a disaster for Pelosi and the Democrats. Anyone who cannot see that is either delusional or is not on our side. Soi the objective right now is to get the votes. DO not move before you're ready to move. I never said do nothing asshole. Why not start calling the fucking members of congress and get them on board.

by Anonymousreply 508July 24, 2019 8:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 509July 24, 2019 8:28 PM

Josh Marshall makes a good point -

"Among other things, these two hearings illustrate a basic, important point. Obstruction is very important. But the real issue is the collusion, the active encouragement and acceptance of help from a foreign power. In other words, the underlying substance.

Obstruction is important in large part because it blocked getting the full story. The most important point here has never been narrowly statutory crimes. It’s the President’s betrayal of his country to get elected. That’s what matters."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department will not pursue criminal charges against Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, after Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to hold them in contempt in a dispute over documents concerning whether to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census.

In a letter on Wednesday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said that responses Barr and Ross made in response to congressional subpoenas over the Census issue “did not constitute a crime.”

“Accordingly, the department will not bring the congressional contempt citations before a grand jury or take any other action to prosecute the Attorney General or the Secretary,” he added.

[quote]U.S. District Judge Lorna Schofield ruled today that a class-action lawsuit — one that accuses Trump and the other related defendants of scamming the plaintiffs into spending money on fraudulent, multilevel marketing ventures and a dubious live-seminar program that would teach them the “secrets of success” of the Trump Organization’s real estate empire — could move ahead with claims based on state law, including fraud, unfair competition, and deceptive trade practices.

[quote]According to Bloomberg News, the plaintiffs filed their suit last October “using the names Jane Doe, Luke Loe, Richard Roe, and Mary Moe, claiming they feared Trump’s habit of criticizing opponents on Twitter and exposing them to potential retaliation by his followers.”

[quote]The complaint — which they hope to turn into a class-action suit – alleges that the Trumps defrauded thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs with the bogus and worthless Trump University program.
