** OFFICIAL VIEWING THREAD ** Robert Mueller Testifies in Front of House Judiciary & House Intelligence 7/24/2019
by Anonymous | reply 605 | July 24, 2019 5:57 PM |
And here's a link to Reuters's feed. I'm sure there are a dozen cable channels carrying it, too.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 24, 2019 11:56 AM |
I'm going in expecting nothing so I will be pleasantly surprised if something actually comes from all this.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 24, 2019 12:04 PM |
My only prediction is that he will do everything he can to NOT provide a soundbite. No quick answers, just a lot of lengthy and dull explanations.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 24, 2019 12:06 PM |
I can't wait for the Trump's tweets where he says he will never watch that shit show, ten minutes before he starts tweeting disparaging comments on it. Because, you know, that's how he rolls...
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 24, 2019 12:08 PM |
This will end in Demo tears.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 24, 2019 12:19 PM |
I agree R2. That's my attitude, too. Every time I thought that "they got him", he just slithered out of it and managed to turn it around and remain unscathed. It feels like it's a battle between good and evil and evil is winning.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 24, 2019 12:23 PM |
This is going to be an epic letdown yet again. I suspect there will be maybe one soundbite that the news networks will work with for the rest of the day and night.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 24, 2019 12:23 PM |
So now Hillary will finally be President?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 24, 2019 12:24 PM |
We'd better get at least one hot intern to look at during the testimony.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 24, 2019 12:30 PM |
Isn't there a fire code in DC? That's a lot of people in a relatively small space.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 24, 2019 12:30 PM |
Mueller in the room.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 24, 2019 12:32 PM |
[quote]Isn't there a fire code in DC? That's a lot of people in a relatively small space.
Trump's on the phone to DC Code Services RIGHT NOW.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 24, 2019 12:34 PM |
Super excited!! This guy makes John Kerry look like Ric Flair. Wooooo!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 24, 2019 12:36 PM |
Mueller looks over it all.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 24, 2019 12:37 PM |
He looks exhausted.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 24, 2019 12:39 PM |
I must say Mueller looks very elegant in that suit.
As I posted in the other thread, the only news here will be if Mueller is, as reported, annoyed at Barr for distorting the report and then if Mueller, in that old-school patrician East Coast Establishment, Hail-Fellow-Well-Met, clubby way, subtly, but unmistakably, twist a stilletto into Barr.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 24, 2019 12:39 PM |
Why do the Repugs always sound like such hillbillies?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 24, 2019 12:40 PM |
Well this didn't take long.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 24, 2019 12:40 PM |
The Republicans' opening statement is full of lies and innuendos ... it would be nice if Mueller would rebut them. But I don't think he will.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 24, 2019 12:41 PM |
Southern accents are so annoying. What in tarnation!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 24, 2019 12:41 PM |
LOL "why" R17
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 24, 2019 12:41 PM |
All the Trolls in one thread finally.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 24, 2019 12:41 PM |
It seems like there should be some way to basically object when a Representative lies in their statement.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 24, 2019 12:42 PM |
"Gossip," should not be used to unfairly go after Politicians and set off ridiculous hearings!
So good to know!!!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 24, 2019 12:42 PM |
Garbo speaks!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 24, 2019 12:43 PM |
Is DL on PrimeTime or is it just too early for traffic?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 24, 2019 12:44 PM |
Not on PT, at least not yet.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 24, 2019 12:45 PM |
I didn't realize he would actually appear and start at 8:30. I thought "coverage" was starting at 8:30. So now I'm here. Working from home. LOL!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 24, 2019 12:45 PM |
Conspiracy vs. Collusion. Thanks for explaining that Robert.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 24, 2019 12:47 PM |
He's already complaining about being called to testify.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 24, 2019 12:48 PM |
He's already preparing everyone for a whole bunch of nothing with this hearing.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 24, 2019 12:48 PM |
The dark haired guy over Mueller's right shoulder, two rows back, is hot.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 24, 2019 12:49 PM |
Someone needs to smack the derpy white guy behind Mueller to the left.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 24, 2019 12:49 PM |
He's not going to make the Dems or the Reps happy today.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 24, 2019 12:49 PM |
Aaand he's already saying he won't answer a lot of questions.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 24, 2019 12:50 PM |
Mueller putting the final nail in America’s coffin.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 24, 2019 12:51 PM |
Maybe I'm cynical, but I have felt for quite some time that he's a Republican who doesn't want to be blamed for taking down a Republican president. All this complaining about being asked to testify is just bullshit. He's old, he remembers Watergate, he knows the score.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 24, 2019 12:51 PM |
It appears Mueller could have phoned this in.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 24, 2019 12:52 PM |
Nadler asks if the report said there was no collusion, as Trump keeps claiming. “Right, that is not what the report said,” Mueller replies.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 24, 2019 12:53 PM |
Yup, he's already said he's not going to say anything about anything.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 24, 2019 12:53 PM |
Isn’t that the National Security Advisor sitting directly behind Mueller?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 24, 2019 12:53 PM |
Mueller not wearing a wedding ring. Is he available?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 24, 2019 12:53 PM |
Someone better ask if Barr ended the investigation early.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 24, 2019 12:54 PM |
Nadler: “Did you actually totally exonerate the president?”
Mueller: “No.”
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 24, 2019 12:54 PM |
Uh, uh.... Nadler is asking good questions.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 24, 2019 12:54 PM |
Dammit, Mueller, stop with the "uhm uhm uhm waffle uhm uhm" crap.
Did I hear complaints from the audience when he sounded like he didn't want to answer Nadler's question there?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 24, 2019 12:54 PM |
R42 Do you want him?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 24, 2019 12:55 PM |
Mueller's stammering. I'm surprised.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 24, 2019 12:55 PM |
[quote]Isn’t that the National Security Advisor sitting directly behind Mueller?
No, that’s not John Bolton.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 24, 2019 12:55 PM |
God, all these double negatives...it's just not emphatic enough for the deplorables to understand the point. They'll just continue with "No collusion! No obstruction!". They are not about nuance.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 24, 2019 12:56 PM |
He sounds like he's going to completely fall apart every time Nadler asks him a good question.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 24, 2019 12:57 PM |
The Dems are prepared for this.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 24, 2019 12:57 PM |
Here comes Mr, Haney again,p. Go back to Hooterville.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 24, 2019 12:58 PM |
I am in a waiting room watching this with deplorables. Pray for me.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 24, 2019 12:59 PM |
His investigation was never hindered? Really? Huh.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 24, 2019 12:59 PM |
This guy from GA is a condescending asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 24, 2019 12:59 PM |
Cover up.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 24, 2019 12:59 PM |
[quote]Someone better ask if Barr ended the investigation early.
Mueller just confirmed that his investigation was never curtailed, stopped or hindered.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 24, 2019 1:00 PM |
I wish Franken were asking the questions.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 24, 2019 1:00 PM |
Yep, R59, which is awfully interesting considering what we already know.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 24, 2019 1:01 PM |
This is not going well.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 24, 2019 1:01 PM |
Fuck sakes, no wonder his investigation didn't find anything to pin Trump. Mueller comes across as a doddling grandpa.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 24, 2019 1:02 PM |
Seth Abramson seems to have pivoted to Captain Obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 24, 2019 1:02 PM |
Collins is the absolute worst.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 24, 2019 1:02 PM |
Does Mueller have a hearing issue?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 24, 2019 1:04 PM |
LOL
[quote]Lindsey's questions for Mueller: Is it ever acceptable to use paper plates? Can I pull off a tomato red linen blazer? Was it OK that I annotated my copy of your report with dancing hearts? Why do people respect you and think I'm a toad, especially the fellow seated behind me?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 24, 2019 1:04 PM |
Mueller didn't seem to agree that collusion and conspiracy have the same meaning but asshole Collins was talking over him.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 24, 2019 1:04 PM |
The Repugs pretty obviously started with Collins to throw Mueller (knowing he was already skittish) and set the tone for a claim that he is disorganized and/or trying to change what he said in the report.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 24, 2019 1:05 PM |
I've watched all I can stand to watch. Mueller sounds like a doddering & hearing impaired old fool much of the time. He should have never been chosen for this job. Someone younger with more energy should have been chosen.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 24, 2019 1:05 PM |
Wow... he really didn't want to say that the Russians were hoping to benefit Trump. Long pause then pronounced it "Trimp."
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 24, 2019 1:06 PM |
Mueller may be losing it. There's stammering, hearing issues and did he have to be corrected to use his right hand and not his left at the swearing in?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 24, 2019 1:07 PM |
Is this why he didn't want to testify, because he's got health issues now?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 24, 2019 1:08 PM |
He's horrible.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 24, 2019 1:08 PM |
r70 = DJT
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 24, 2019 1:08 PM |
The questions are too long.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 24, 2019 1:09 PM |
This guy's question doesn't even make sense.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 24, 2019 1:10 PM |
He's just letting Rethugs railroad him. I thought he'd be better prepared for this.
And yet he's still going to protect his party.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 24, 2019 1:11 PM |
I wish they would badger him so much that he would get pissed and Hulk out and burn the fuckers down.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 24, 2019 1:11 PM |
The Repugs are not asking real questions, they’re making long statements that they know he won’t be able to respond to in this format.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 24, 2019 1:11 PM |
Rethugs don't ask questions. They make false statements.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 24, 2019 1:11 PM |
Ratcliffe, the current Republican questioner, met with Trump Friday and is reportedly under consideration to replace Dan Coats as director of national intelligence. This performance will up his standing with Trimp, er, Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | July 24, 2019 1:11 PM |
Mueller's wishing he were home in his pajamas watching Kelly and Ryan.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | July 24, 2019 1:11 PM |
Repubs are reduced to giving speeches.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 24, 2019 1:12 PM |
Ratcliffe thinks he's making a huge point but he actually doesn't make sense.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 24, 2019 1:12 PM |
MSNBC commentators told us that the value of this hearing would be in having Bob Mueller speak the words of the report.
But all we're hearing is, "Ah, could you repeat the question."
And his health issue is that he's now incurably old.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 24, 2019 1:12 PM |
Jesus, what a fucking drama queen this asshole from Texas is. Of course he had to get in the socialist name calling.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 24, 2019 1:13 PM |
This is why 70 year olds should not be president.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 24, 2019 1:13 PM |
Well, Mueller did warn that he didn’t want to do this.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 24, 2019 1:13 PM |
Is this a mishearing?
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 24, 2019 1:13 PM |
Ratcliffe is actually trying to say that volume two of this report is illegal. Hilarious. It's such an obvious job interview for Trump it's pathetic.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 24, 2019 1:14 PM |
The rethugs are rethugging - we need mickey to splash some water in Muellers face and get him back into the ring.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 24, 2019 1:14 PM |
[quote]Jesus, what a fucking drama queen this asshole from Texas is.
He was playing to an audience of one -- Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 24, 2019 1:14 PM |
R88, Mueller turns 75 in two weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 24, 2019 1:15 PM |
Republicans just making long winded, lying, statements, to run the clock down and not allow Mueller to speak or respond, should be expected.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 24, 2019 1:15 PM |
I'm going to need a lot of fucking antacids at the end of this.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 24, 2019 1:16 PM |
Everyone gets 5 mins.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 24, 2019 1:16 PM |
5 hours of THIS?!
by Anonymous | reply 98 | July 24, 2019 1:17 PM |
We're aware R97.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 24, 2019 1:17 PM |
And it’s every other one - Dem - Repug
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 24, 2019 1:17 PM |
Did he have a stroke?
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 24, 2019 1:17 PM |
This will be a big nothing, honestly Mueller seems old and doddering. Della no sort of passive aggressive dig at Barr will happen.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | July 24, 2019 1:18 PM |
Jim Nonsense burger.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | July 24, 2019 1:18 PM |
R101, a Rethug lying? I'm shocked!
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 24, 2019 1:19 PM |
He's just old and nervous, I think. And he really does seem to have trouble following the really fast questions from Reps trying to cram everything into 5 minutes.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | July 24, 2019 1:19 PM |
Well this is absolutely riveting stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 24, 2019 1:20 PM |
Every Republican is doing the same thing: reading from the report without telling him where in the report they're reading from, Mueller saying he needs to look it up, and the Repug saying, "UH I just READ it to YOU" in a sarcastic tone.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 24, 2019 1:20 PM |
Repugs are painting him as incompetent and Mueller keeps handing them the paint.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 24, 2019 1:20 PM |
Two years of building up the super heroic, efficient, no nonsense Mueller and now we see the guy can barely hear or understand questions about his own report.
Mueller is useless.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | July 24, 2019 1:20 PM |
I want to hear Mueller but the Rethugs get my Blood PRessure elevated so I keep turning the sound down. I guess if Mueller does something spectacular like telling Sensenbrenner or Ratliffe to fuck off they will replay it and "analyze it. Mueller has never spoken rapidly. He is deliberate and careful. This is not show biz to him. It has to be daunting for anyone to sit there and face all those questioners, no matter what he may privately think of them.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | July 24, 2019 1:20 PM |
Kellyanne Conway is probably dancing around the Oval Office like Julie Andrews at the beginning of the Sound of Music. They have to be ecstatic about this.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 24, 2019 1:21 PM |
I think it’s going to be clear by the end that he would have indicted if he could have. And Congreve could.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | July 24, 2019 1:21 PM |
r67, some people don't know the difference between the House and the Senate.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | July 24, 2019 1:22 PM |
Well isn't this depressing.

by Anonymous | reply 118 | July 24, 2019 1:22 PM |
The Comey testimony was entertaining at least
by Anonymous | reply 119 | July 24, 2019 1:22 PM |
I don't have much confidence that this old man was the stellar prosecutor and did a good job. Maybe we really do need a true do-over.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | July 24, 2019 1:22 PM |
Let Mueller answer, you loathsome Republicans.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | July 24, 2019 1:23 PM |
I suspect Mueller is best at delegating and organizing, and that there are dozens on his team who would have been much better than Mueller when it comes to testifying.
Remember, the Republicans were VERY happy at him being chosen for the job, probably in part because they knew he was a dry bureaucrat, as well as a Republican. They were planning for the future.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | July 24, 2019 1:23 PM |
So, he can not indict...so no investigation should be done? What about all Trumps friends being investigated.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | July 24, 2019 1:23 PM |
Sheila Jackson-Lee is FIERCE!
by Anonymous | reply 124 | July 24, 2019 1:23 PM |
[quote]So, he can not indict...so no investigation should be done?
That's the Repug talking point, yes.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | July 24, 2019 1:24 PM |
Maybe they should have sent Rachel Maddow to testify in his place. She seems to know more about the report than Mueller.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | July 24, 2019 1:24 PM |
[quote]Sheila Jackson-Lee is FIERCE!
She's supposedly really nasty in real life but I love how she comes across on camera.

LOL the "I'm fucked" quote makes an appearance
by Anonymous | reply 129 | July 24, 2019 1:25 PM |
The overall impact will be determined by the news clips and interpretations because no one can listen to this. Fox will find enough to exonerate and no one else will. So status quo.

Just when he thinks he's out they keep pulling him back in
by Anonymous | reply 131 | July 24, 2019 1:25 PM |
Maybe Mueller is pulling a rope-a-dope. God I hope so.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | July 24, 2019 1:27 PM |
I'm not sure how much of this I can watch. I too am turning the sound off when the Republicans "ask questions." It seems that their purpose is to confound and then confront. I feel sorry for Mueller.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | July 24, 2019 1:27 PM |
The Dems are trying to build their case for impeachment. They need to sway public opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | July 24, 2019 1:27 PM |

And here our country is going into the shitter. And he says nothing,

He is nervous, old and trying to avoid misspeaking. What did you all expect? He's doing fine.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | July 24, 2019 1:28 PM |
The GOP carries on as if Mueller is supposed to have memorized every syllable of the report. I'm sure he doesn't trust the Republicans to quote it correctly.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | July 24, 2019 1:29 PM |
He stated at the outset that he wouldn’t address the origins of the report.

by Anonymous | reply 141 | July 24, 2019 1:30 PM |
She has not, troll R137. They don't have the votes yet.
People need to contact their Representatives and find out if they support impeachment. If not, convince them to support it. Stop lying with this "Pelosi refuses to impeach" crap. It's up to a whole lot of citizens and Representatives, not just her.

by Anonymous | reply 153 | July 24, 2019 1:34 PM |
I don't think we can blame his performance today on his age. Even a 30-something would falter. Coming into this, he knows that half of the people are going to try to trip him up and catch him in a "gotcha" moment. Some are outright hostile towards him as if he's on trial for some crime.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | July 24, 2019 1:34 PM |
Repug claims that "the things left out of the report tended to be favorable to the President."
How would he know what was left out of the report?

Johnson is doing well, Mueller seems more responsive to his questions because they're clearer and slower.

He can't trust the Repugs to quote the report accurately, so of course he wants the pages and locations of their quotes. They're not giving him the pages before they yell at him because they WANT to yell "It's in your report, have you forgotten?!?!" and make him look bad.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | July 24, 2019 1:36 PM |
Here's the thing. Mueller has said all along that our country already has a mechanism in place to deal with corrupt presidents. Congress. So his testifying is just political theater. They drag this man out of bed for what... exactly? Quite frankly, I think impeachment is a meaningless exercise as long as the Senate refuses to play ball. And it's not like Trump would ever resign. I trust Pelosi, she has good instincts about this shit.

Mueller has made 80+ appearances before Congress and he's acting like this is his first time.
He needs to just state, "Listen, if you want to cite my report you need to answer my questions because you're all liars."
by Anonymous | reply 161 | July 24, 2019 1:40 PM |
Again, when Gohmert states something that's not proven, it's just his theory, why can't that be objected to?
by Anonymous | reply 162 | July 24, 2019 1:40 PM |
The Democrats are trying valiantly to get Mueller to rephrase damaging stuff from his report that can be used as media sound bites, but he keeps resisting. "It's in the report."

by Anonymous | reply 185 | July 24, 2019 1:51 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 186 | July 24, 2019 1:52 PM |
The fact is Mueller is conforming the Obstruction charges. But the Dems, IMO have this wrong Yes, the Mueller report is important. Definitely. But we do not need the Mueller report to impeach. This President's abuse of power, and other crimes are proof enough of his criminality. Mueller lays a good foundation and his team did a lot of investigatory work, that saves time, but we can impeach Trump without it. The Republican base will never abandon Trump. Their support is unconditional. But with a Democratic Senate and a Democratic House we can get rid of the son of a bitch, and if he wins in January, we will go after him and nail his ass. Gone by April 2021.

[quote]But with a Democratic Senate and a Democratic House we can get rid of the son of a bitch, and if he wins in January, we will go after him and nail his ass. Gone by April 2021.
Even if we take control of the senate in 2020, it takes 2/3ds of the Senate to remove someone from office, not a majority.
This obsession over removing Trump from office through impeachment is a pipe dream, put that energy into winning at the ballot box. That's how you get rid of him, vote him out.

Every time a Republican attempts to make a point, the next Democrat uses quotes from his report for rebuttal. I love this. The more aggressive Repukes a re using rumors innuendo and gossip to smear Mueller. The Dems have their quotes: 1. Mueller is confirming Obstruction. 2. Mueller's report confirms Russian interference, and most important, 3. Mueller's report is very cunning, as, while not saying there was a conspiracy, shows that there was a conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Mueller says he does "not necessarily support" Jeffries’ analysis of Trump's obstruction of justice.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | July 24, 2019 2:34 PM |
They wanted a televised hearing so they could find sound bites to use r290. This is just going to be chopped up into a few short clips. That's all most Americans will ever see.

[quote]Looks like Mueller may have served mainly as a prestigious figurehead for this investigation, which is why he didn’t want to testify and insisted on bringing an aide.
That's got to be the case, there's no other real explanation.
As the morning has gone on, he's become more confident, but he still very obviously doesn't want to be held responsible for nailing Trump on Trump's obvious crimes, even though he's already done all this investigation into them.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | July 24, 2019 2:35 PM |
The good thing is that every Democrat thus far has ended with "no one is above the law including the president."
Hammer that home.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | July 24, 2019 2:36 PM |
Mueller is exposed as a foolish doddering old man. His reputation is destroyed and he is eternally embarrassed. What a sad show for the end of a career.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | July 24, 2019 2:36 PM |
Well he just handed Trump an early Xmas present, R294.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | July 24, 2019 2:36 PM |

Jeffries did an excellent job of listing the three elements of the crime of obstruction of justice, and then showing how Trump satisfied each of those three elements. What the hell was with Mueller saying he didn't "subscribe" to Jeffries pretty much proving that Trump should be indicted for obstruction of justice?
by Anonymous | reply 305 | July 24, 2019 2:37 PM |

Mueller is a Republican. You can't trust Republicans. Not Stormy, not Comey, not any of the Never-Trumpers with 500K followers on Twitter, and not Mueller.
Mueller is probably the most trustworthy, comparatively speaking, but he's still a Republican and doesn't want to give up party loyalty. That's why he freaked out and said he didn't subscribe to Jeffries's clear explanation of obstruction of justice. He doesn't want any Republican to think he turned a dime on Donnie.

Buck got Mueller to say that the only reason Trump wasn't indicted was because the DOJ prohibited it. I think that could be another decent soundbite. But of course Trumpsters won't care, they think the fix is in.

Exactly, R322. That was a confirmation of something he said earlier, too. Getting that Trump CAN be indicted when he's out of office, and that he wasn't indicted now because of the DOJ, is pretty good stuff.

This is the judiciary committee, which is looking into obstruction. Why are the Repugs focusing on part 1 of the Mueller report, which covers the Russia conspiracy? That’s the purvue for the intelligence committee later today.

We were too inept to obstruct justice so our "failure" to fire Muller means there was no obstruction.

Seems today's hearing confirms an impression of Mueller from his "exit" statement to the press when he left. He seems so constrained by his idea of what his role and performance should be, he almost can't speak. He's shaky, old, limited in understanding. History may show he was the wrong man for the job. He may have failed his country.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | July 24, 2019 3:00 PM |

Mueller: Yes, Reps. Jeffries and Lieu, you may have laid out solid evidence that Trump fulfilled all three elements of the crime of obstruction of justice, but I already have a long-time subscription to the Republican Party, so I can't also subscribe to what you've just proven today.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | July 24, 2019 3:01 PM |

Why, r371?
by Anonymous | reply 380 | July 24, 2019 3:01 PM |
They need to change the way they hold hearings. Attacking someone accomplishes and tells us nothing. It does tell us the Republicans are desperate to protect Trump. There should Only be questions allowed. No statements, not bringing up people that have nothing to do with the hearing, no bringing up the border wall which has nothing to do with this etc.
They also need to do something about the time limits. People are so desperate to ask all their questions they don't wait for Mueller to answer. They should pick only a certain amount of people and they should only be allowed to ask 3 questions so they can get answers.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | July 24, 2019 3:02 PM |
r373, I'm not seeing it that way. It seems to me that he is operating within the scope of his work. He is not going to give his personal opinion. He investigated and that is the limit of his office. There ware ongoing investigations he can't comment on. It's up to Congress to pick up the ball.

I'm proud of the Democrats. We look back at Watergate with the luxury of editing those hearings, but they were not nearly as dramatic as they have been protrayed. They definitely had their moments, and the same kind of grandstanding, etc, but I think these hearings are going just fine and I don't agree with those who say the Dems are "losing ground." That is just bullshit.

[quote] Poll today say increased number of Democrats think the investigation wasn't fair. Democrats.
Based on the redacted report and Barr's incorrect summary.
Yeah, the GOP propaganda and lies works, especially when the media shills for them. That's not news. This hearing is part of what's being done to combat that.
I said it was suspicious that we had an increase in "Mueller is terrible and we're doomed" posts AFTER we scored some solid hits in the questioning the morning, You say that it's not suspicious because of an unrelated poll. That's because you're deflecting: you have no answer for why the trolls ramped up after a good showing from several Democratic representatives.
And acting as though we shouldn't even be having these hearings because it doesn't matter anyway is bullshit.

By Washington Post Staff July 24 at 10:41 AM
Former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III is testifying publicly before two separate congressional panels Wednesday and for the first time is addressing questions about his investigation of President Trump and Russian interference in the 2016 election.
The first hearing, before the House Judiciary Committee chaired by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), began just after 8:30 a.m., and the second, before the House Intelligence Committee, will begin at noon.
Democratic lawmakers are digging into the episodes Mueller outlined in his 448-page report of potential obstruction of justice by Trump. Mueller has said that he preferred not to say more about his work in public and — if made to do so — that he would not speak beyond what was detailed in his report.
Republicans, meanwhile, are grilling Mueller on what they view as impropriety in his investigation, focusing intensely on anti-Trump text messages exchanged by an FBI agent and an FBI lawyer who worked on the case.
Follow our live coverage here throughout the day.
10:30 a.m.: “I’m just going to leave it as it appears in the report”
Back from a break, Rep. Cedric L. Richmond (D-La.) tried to press Mueller on an episode in his report alleging that Trump had directed former White House counsel Donald McGahn to have the special counsel fired, and then lie about it.
As he has throughout the hearing, Mueller merely confirmed that the lines that Richmond read were accurate.
“Correct,” he said repeatedly, as Richmond described the episode. “Generally true.”
Richmond tried to convince Mueller to elaborate, asking the open-ended question, “Can you explain what you meant there?” But Mueller balked.
“I’m just going to leave it as it appears in the report,” he said.

Agreed. I don't think people who are saying that this is bad for Democrats are saying so in good faith. That includes the media. Their immediate hot takes about how this was bad need to be updated, now that more good information has come out and now that Mueller is getting better at answering.

What today's hearing confirms for me (we'll see if something different happens in the next hearing) is that there needs to focus and unity on winning the 2020 election. The time spent spinning and arguing, the Squad v Nancy, the drumbeat for impeachment and the resistance to that, squabbling about how left the party should be, even Clinton-phobia still in the noise... EVERYTHING needs to focus on the strategies to beat Trump, regain the Senate, in November, 2020.

Dismissing this hearing because it won't lead to impeachment is foolish. Of COURSE we should look toward defeating him in 2020. Even if impeachment hearings started when the House went back into session in a few weeks, we wouldn't have enough time to get rid of Trump, because he won't resign.

Mueller established that Barr lied about him and the report and that he would have indicted Trump but for the DOJ memo—i.e., Trump is a crook. If it wasn’t great theater, so be it.

ABC has an interesting crew to comment, including Chris Christie.

Nicole Wallace just said:
Democrats were on a fact finding mission. Republicans were auditioning to be the next host on Fox News. Matt Gaetz was ridiculously auditioning to be a fill in host for Sean Hannity.

I agree STRONGLY with R509!! Those 20 Democrat candidates who will be debating exactly one week from now need to focus SOLELY on the fact that we have currently have a FELON in the White House, and do we want to award said felon four more years of power? DROP all the stupid shit they kick around: busing, reparations, race issues, free college, Medicare for all, etc etc etc, needs to take a back seat to handing Trump the biggest defeat EVER - and that includes how to beat the fucking ELECTORAL COLLEGE, which is how he is going to try to ram himself through again this time!!!
They have plenty of other debates coming in the future: I would love to see this be the SOLE TOPIC they discuss.

David Axelrod
This is very, very painful.
by Anonymous | reply 562 | July 24, 2019 4:36 PM |
Isn't it odd that the Republicans were so intent on attacking Mueller, his investigative team and the report given that Trump says they "totally exonerated" him?
by Anonymous | reply 563 | July 24, 2019 4:37 PM |
It's painful for the FUCKING COUNTRY to realize that a fat orange FELON is sitting in the White House, and is bucking for another FOUR YEARS!
by Anonymous | reply 564 | July 24, 2019 4:37 PM |
Maybe Axelrod was referring to the Republicans' performance, which was indeed painful.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | July 24, 2019 4:37 PM |
We live in an era where style matters more than substance. People want drama and snappy soundbites. It doesn't matter how damning the report is. What people will take away from all of this is that Mueller, who was touted all along as an incredibly sharp and competent, is a stuttering, stammering, clueless old man, which will cast doubt on the whole investigation.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | July 24, 2019 4:37 PM |
Chuck Todd just called Mueller's appearance a "disaster".
by Anonymous | reply 567 | July 24, 2019 4:38 PM |
Sort of funny that it was the Rethug for Colorado who pushed the questioning too far that allowed Mueller to say that Drumpf could be charged after he leaves office.
by Anonymous | reply 568 | July 24, 2019 4:38 PM |
Chuck Todd is also a useless asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 569 | July 24, 2019 4:38 PM |
I know, R562, and the followup:
[quote]Not a commentary on the content. The report is damning. That was reenforced today. He has been an exemplary public servant, as people are both sides attested, but he clearly was struggling today and that was painful.
It's not throwing him under the bus. It's not like the Repugs weren't going to go "he's a doddering old fool who didn't even write his own report!" unless David Axelrod tweeted.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | July 24, 2019 4:39 PM |
R565, LOL!
by Anonymous | reply 571 | July 24, 2019 4:39 PM |
Nicole just pointed out that we have to not focus on Mueller's performance but rather what was brought to light, all of Drumpf's lies and interference, which Mueller highlighted and confirmed.

Rosie O’Donnell must be pulling her hair out.

What's really frightening about all this is that doddering Anthrax Bob still operates a motor vehicle.

Garry Kasparov:
The Mueller hearing is a show and all of the Reps are grandstanding. But the Democrats are doing it to impress voters while all the Republicans are only trying to impress Trump. That’s a huge difference, democracy vs autocracy.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | July 24, 2019 4:44 PM |
What they needed to make clear was:
Robert Mueller has said that if he could have said Drumpf DIDNT commit a crime he would have. He didn't do that which means Drumpf committed crimes.
by Anonymous | reply 576 | July 24, 2019 4:44 PM |
This is what the questioning reminded me of. Questions lobbed non-stop from all sides.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | July 24, 2019 4:44 PM |
[quote] Nicole just pointed out that we have to not focus on Mueller's performance but rather what was brought to light, all of Drumpf's lies and interference, which Mueller highlighted and confirmed.
She's right, of course, but good luck with that. People ALWAYS focus on performance.

😂 Good luck with that.

Chuck Todd attacked Buzzfeed for publishing the Steele Dossier. How did that turn out? He is, at best, a fool.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | July 24, 2019 4:49 PM |
I never liked Chuck Todd, but I know so many politically-minded older women who love him for some reason.

Schiff doing a nice job with his opening statement.
by Anonymous | reply 590 | July 24, 2019 4:57 PM |
I'd forgive Mueller's performance if he asks Nunes how his cow is doing.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | July 24, 2019 5:03 PM |
WTF Nunes saying it's really about the Democrats working with the Russians. He's crazy! Just like Trump.

Nunes isn't making his point, whatever it is.
by Anonymous | reply 595 | July 24, 2019 5:21 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 597 | July 24, 2019 5:22 PM |
Nunes is milking it for all it's worth in a cheesy attempt to butter up Trump's base.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | July 24, 2019 5:23 PM |
All I would like Mueller to do to that pig Nunes and any other Republican, is when they characterize something as a witch hunt or attempt to discredit his investigation or impugn the reputations of him or his staff, simply say, Congressman you can jump to that conclusion if you want to, but that issue is under review by the Justice Department so out of Respect to the DoJ I will not comment.
I just hate Nunes SO MUCH, I understand why my old Granny used to say, " god don't let him be crossin the street an I'm in my car..... "
by Anonymous | reply 599 | July 24, 2019 5:23 PM |
R598 he's trying to butter up Drump's hole.
