MSNBC implemented a big shakeup in programming this week, Mediaite has learned, appointing SVP of programming and development Jonathan Wald and MSNBC executive editor Dan Arnall to lead dayside. The former head of dayside, NBC News SVP Janelle Rodriguez, will take control of NBC News Now, the network’s streaming service.

The changes were announced company-wide at 9 a.m. Wednesday. A source told Mediaite that the new organization returns MSNBC to its former structure: dayside will be managed in two blocks, with Wald taking over 9 a.m. to noon and Arnall taking noon to 4 p.m. Wald will also continue to oversee the network’s primetime shows, alongside MSNBC president Phil Griffin.

One source familiar told Mediaite the changes came amidst mounting complaints from NBC News chief Andy Lack about a dip in MSNBC’s ratings following the end of the Mueller investigation. In May, ratings for the network in the advertiser coveted 25-54 demo were down 32% year over year. MSNBC’s ratings in total viewers were flat, though it saw an increase in dayside viewership of 8%, while CNN and Fox News were down.

She said what else can you do, this situation is pretty crazy.

I notice MSNBC is showing more and more of Trump, will they give him as much free advertising as they did in 2016? I really notice it because Trump annoys the shit out of me and I mute him or change the channel whenever he is on, even for a small clip.

During the campaign, MSNBC aired Trump's rallys uninterrupted. I haven't seen them do that since the election so hopefully the wall-to-wall Trump coverage is over.

Okay, so I was watching anti-MSNBC this morning (Fox and Friends), and lo and behold...they had one of their hosts swimming in the Hudson River with some Navy Seals. It was supposedly to highlight some charity, but it was really just an attempt to watch him shirtless for 15 minutes. His name is Pete Hegseth, and he was extremely buff, hot and tattooed!

It's not fair to compare MSNBC with CNN because MSNBC was never really set up to be a 24/7 news operation. MSNBC has very few reporters (unless you count the NBC News reporters who sometimes appear on MSNBC). Other than Brian Williams (who only landed at MSNBC as a form of punishment), it doesn't have any real solid news anchors. Rachel, Lawrence, Chris Hayes, etc., are commentators, they're not news anchors like Wolf Blitzer or Don Lemon. And when MSNBC's main hosts are on vacation, it doesn't have a very deep pool of back-ups to turn to, so you end up with someone like Ali Velshi doing double or triple duty.

Posters keep saying a variation on that theme on DL (and elsewhere), but other than the ratings drop, I don't see how the other points are credible.

Re conspiracy/meddling, the Report (not the Barr memo, mind you, but the actual Report) stated: "A Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton." (Vol I, p 1-2).

Re obstruction, the Report stated: “While this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him" (Vol II, p 2).

Note that Barr's Memo incorrectly stated only "[T]his report does not conclude that the President committed a crime" part of that sentence - completely changing the meaning of that above sentence.

Re the Mueller investigation itself, the Report states: "The President's efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out the orders or accede to his requests" (Vol II, p 15).

Also remember the number of indicted or convicted of charges ranging from meddling in our election to witness tampering to lying to the FBI totaled 34 individuals and 3 companies.

Another line from the report: “The investigation established that several individuals affiliated with the Trump administration lied to the Office and to Congress about their interactions with Russia and affiliated individuals and related matters. These lies materially impaired the investigation of Russian election interference."

Also remember that Trump refused to site for an interview and only did written answers (sort of the equivalent of a take-home exam). And even that he screwed up: He gave “incomplete and imprecise” answers to written questions. For the 20 questions he was asked, he said "I do not recall," "I do not remember," or I do not have independent recollection of" on 30 occasions. (And this is someone who often said on the campaign, "I have the best memory.")

I can't address the other MSNBC shows because I don't watch (other than the first hour of Morning Joe), but I know Maddow never approached her show with the attitude "Mueller's gonna get you, Trump!"

I sometimes wonder how much of what people post on political threads is their own projections.
