Impeachment. It's not about removing Trump. We know there aren't enough votes in the Senate. It's about putting all of Trumps Dirty Laundry on TV 8 hours a day for the six months before the election. It's what the republicans wanted to do to Hillary Clinton with Bengazi but this time there are actual crimes.

by Anonymousreply 4April 19, 2019 10:48 PM

[quote]In their twisted talibangelical mind, they see themselves as martyrs to this great white cause. And they will ALWAYS vote repug because rethugs promise to strip everything from everyone.

If that were the case, the Repugs could act ethically because they'd be secure in the knowledge that they'd still hold onto those votes. Don't let the Repugs in Congress off the hook. They are unethical, amoral assholes all on their own because they do everything they do knowing that they won't lose the talibangelical vote.

Do you think it changes anything if, when Mueller is sitting there before multiple Congressional committees, he is asked if he would have charged Donald Trump if he had not been the president and if he believes the president needs to be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors and his answer is a resounding "Yes." to both questions?

And, since people are arguing that Jr. didn't get indicted because he was too stupid to have knowingly colluded, has the old 'ignorance of the law is no defense' also been thrown out by this illegal administration and the party that protects it?

by Anonymousreply 5April 19, 2019 11:21 PM

R4 In impeachment hearings, is Trump forced to testify?

by Anonymousreply 6April 19, 2019 11:49 PM

New rule: people are no longer allowed to claim that there is massive support for President Dump without evidence.

This myth has carried out too long in the media, and with one troll on here whom should be smoked out.

They insist that rural communities worship and are prepared to do battle for Dump! It’s a lie. They don’t care that much. They are pissed about the collapse of farming, steel and manufacturing. They are resentful of yet another political letdown.

The media missed their sentiment last time, and they are missing it again.

This is why the evangelicals like Bachmann are pushing this narrative about Pres Bone Spurs being the greatest Godliest president- to insulate him from attacks and during a possible impeachment. The martyrdom would be yuge. A very attack on Christ!

Fuck Romney. What is he going to actually do? Nothing. I guess, "thanks" for calling him out but do something.

Romney just put a very large constituency on notice regarding the morals of this putrid presidency. He's taking out the very Conservative Mormon vote.....if nothing else, they will stay home on election day if he tells them, R11. Wishful thinking on your part that there is no effect from Romney's condemnation.

More will come. Maybe not enough to convict, but we will see a trial.

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2019 12:40 AM

Seriously, they should hold hearing after hearing after hearing from spring of 2020 through the week of the election and then schedule a vote on impeachment for the Wednesday after the election.

Reparations to the whole fucking country should be paid out for this bullshit administration and to the press for having to put up with Lying Sarah Sanders.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2019 12:46 AM

R18, he already has. He's a sociopath, so it's fun to watch him turn on the dotard and unleash the power of the LDS on his faithless ass.

Don't underestimate Mitt. He's got some brass ones in that shiny suit and he's admired in the sainthood.

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2019 12:48 AM

The next time Sarah holds a press conference, the very first question from the very first reporter should be, "Why should we, or the American people for that matter, ever believe a single word that comes out of your mouth?"

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2019 12:49 AM

And once again there's old Mitch smiling his snide lipless smile while Trump does his best to burn the world down, Why doesn't someone stop him, he's done so much to protect Trump and hurt anyone who opposes him yet it's like he's fucking invisible?!

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2019 12:54 AM

When it comes to impeachment you can't really compare Clinton to trump. Clinton's big crime was lying about a blow job. Trump is guilty of massive crimes. Money laundering, tax evasion, conspiracy to commit election fraud with Russia and RICO. Clinton didn't have ties to the Russian and American mob.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2019 12:56 AM

Younger Trump with Roy Cohn.

They were close.

R23 Lest we not forget: a consensual blowjob.

And yet the GOP thinks nothing of a thrice-married, pussy grabbing, adult film star bangin' liar holding the most powerful office in the world. Dump cant even name his demonination and his "pastor" revealed he never actually attends church. He's too busy spending tax payers' millions on his Sunday golf jaunts to Mar A Lago.

Oh yeah. Dump doesn't pay taxes either. That's for stupid people!

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2019 1:05 AM

R6, neither Clinton nor Andrew Johnson, the only Presidents ever tried after being impeached, appeared at trial. I do not see how Trump could be forced to appear and testify against himself without violating the Fifth amendment.

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2019 1:08 AM

Just to keep the record straight....Clinton was impeached for LYING under oath about the blowjob. Petty.

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2019 1:18 AM

Mueller should have indicted Jr. That the fastest and easiest way to drive Trump batshit. Not because he gives a shit about the son but because it sullies his brand.

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2019 1:19 AM

Noam Chomsky Calls Dem Focus on Russia a ‘Huge Gift’ to Trump: ‘They May Have Handed Him the Next Election

Speaking at a forum in Boston with Amy Goodman, Chomsky stated his view that he always believed there was going to be little to no proof of collusion in the Mueller Report.

“[T]he Democrats are helping him,” Chomsky said. “They are. Take the focus on Russia-gate. What’s that all about? I mean, it was pretty obvious at the beginning that you’re not going to find anything very serious about Russian interference in elections.”

“The Democrats invested everything in this issue,” Chomsky said. “Well, turned out there was nothing much there. They gave Trump a huge gift. In fact, they may have handed him the next election. … That’s a matter of being so unwilling to deal with fundamental issues, that they’re looking for something on the side that will somehow give political success.”

The ‘president is infallible, his base will never leave him’ troll is really going into overdrive to hold onto that false narrative. Go out to deploraville and see for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2019 1:29 AM

OP, what makes you so sure they won’t abandon him? Once a few see that he is no longer as popular as claimed, they will race to throw him under the bus.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2019 1:41 AM

The focus right now seems to be on how Barr totally covered for Trump in that press conference. That wasn't a smart move on his part because now he's written his own legacy.

The next big moment will come when/if Mueller testifies. If it's true that he and Barr were friends, I don't see that friendship lasting much longer given what happened.

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2019 1:44 AM

R35 I think Barr may be making himself the big fat target to draw attention from the one he's protecting. The GOP is in complete chess mode to save their "King". They will consider a win if they get Trump to re-election even if they lose a piece here or there.

by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2019 1:48 AM

A lot of how the GOP will react will depend on how much their voters are hurting economically. Did they get the tax cut they were promised? Are any farmers going bankrupt because of the tariffs? Are any farms going under because they can't get enough foreign workers to pick peaches? Is anyone in construction hurting because of steel tariffs?

Once the GOP hears back from them, that's when they might quietly start supporting a way to kick out Trump.

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2019 1:49 AM

We are going to find out just exactly how large his base is....very soon. Once the investigations get into swing, all hell is going to break loose. It will start moving fast once Mueller testifies. All its going to take are a few hearings with key people and even a portion of his base will abandon him. The true tell will be Fox News....when they turn, its over. The cracks are already starting to show...it will either be quashed, or it will accelerate.

r35....Barr classifying his relationship with Mueller as "friend" doesnt mean what you think it means. They are both career prosecutors. They have worked within each others areas most of their careers. Being professional "friends" who occasionally see and work together isnt the same as someone you hang out with.

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2019 1:52 AM

I will NEVER believe that Mueller just up and and wrapped his investigation in what? Some 30 days of Barr being appointed and left it in a final tidy package with a tidy bow for Congress to finish up and take Action on. Bullshit! The amount of work he did- the Subpoenas he had filed, even the fire and brimstone that he had come down on Stone- to what? Leave Trump and his and his Progeny untouched? I will ALWAYS BELIEVE that Barr and a few others exerted some final influence on Mueller, perhaps that we will never know, to get him to cave, relent, and leave us with this Constitutional Purgatory.

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2019 1:57 AM

Chomsky declares Democrats made a big mistake focusing on Trump-Russia. What are they suppose to do? Ignore alleged criminal activity that influenced the 2016 election? Let the corruption in the executive branch slide? Treat Assange as a hero because he hacked an American campaign's Emails while conspiring with Russia?

It was the media that was sensationalizing the Mueller investigation and Trump's antics. Congress does have an oversight job.

R29, Chomsky is a gifted and famous writer. But his political opinions are not always right.

by Anonymousreply 40April 20, 2019 1:59 AM

When Mueller testifies, one of the first questions needs to be phrased properly.....instead of "did Barr or anyone else shut you down ?....they need to phrase it like " If you were allowed more time, Do you think you could have closed the gaps on your "collusion" investigation ?" and see how he responds.

by Anonymousreply 41April 20, 2019 2:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 45April 20, 2019 2:17 AM

R29, I can't even describe how sick I am of old white men bloviating. I don't care if they are supposedly on our side. They just don't get it anymore. They have failed to evolve over the last two decades and now their time is coming to an end. They can either start evolving, figure out that they and their opinions are not the sacrosanct truth they've been lead all their lives to believe they are, or they can sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up while the rest of us try to save the country from the decrepitude that has emerged almost solely from their actions.

by Anonymousreply 46April 20, 2019 2:19 AM

Does anybody know what Muellers response was when asked to testify??

I have heard more out of mimes than we have Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 47April 20, 2019 2:20 AM

Even if Trump had a 70% approval rating his dementia is getting worse. He can barely speak in complete sentences. I bet he's in diapers at this point.

by Anonymousreply 48April 20, 2019 2:21 AM

I have to agree with previous posters, sadly, there's no way the GOP will vote to impeach, none. Trump could literally, and I mean literally, suspend the 2020 elections, impose marshal law, and throw Democrats in prison for treason, and the Republican wouldn't vote to impeach.

by Anonymousreply 49April 20, 2019 2:22 AM

R49: But if the House dragged every witness in the Mueller report into open televised hearings for the next 2 years....

by Anonymousreply 50April 20, 2019 2:27 AM

I am still aghast at the republican hubris to smear, harass, libel, slander, and criticize brilliant, honest, caring Democrat candidates, senators, and congresspeople then turn around in 2016 and present a roster of ludicrous candidates, followed by the election of the most unfit stupid idiot to ever sit in the White House.

What a bunch of evil, arrogant, hypocrites. No one should ever listen to or take seriously any republican ever again. They are unworthy of respect, their words are dirt.

by Anonymousreply 51April 20, 2019 2:29 AM

R49 has been tirelessly grinding into everyone’s mind that trumps popularity is not weakening with the GOP and deplorables.

Fortunately for us in reality, it’s not so.

by Anonymousreply 52April 20, 2019 2:30 AM

FF the “there’s no hope” troll.

by Anonymousreply 53April 20, 2019 2:31 AM

I hope whoever posted doesn't mind that I am reposting your comment. I think it's too important and is spot on. Everyone needs to read it. This Trump cult is as simple as this:

Those of you who think any rethug is going to come to their senses needs to listen to Chris Hayes' "why is this happening" interview with Jonathan Metzl.

The rethugs are terrified of their white trash voters who would rather literally DIE than vote for a Democrat. Even when they know rethug policies are literally killing them and their children. They simply care more about denying black and brown people humanity and help than they do about saving themselves.

In their twisted talibangelical mind, they see themselves as martyrs to this great white cause. And they will ALWAYS vote repug because rethugs promise to strip everything from everyone.

They simply care more about killing black and brown people than they do themselves.

by Anonymousreply 54April 20, 2019 2:32 AM

Thanks for re-posting that, R54, I missed it the first time.

I brought to mind the anger some people have towards those that have good pensions. Instead of supporting unions or companies offering pensions for all and protesting the taking away of such benefits, they'd rather take away the pensions from people have them. I have a pension but I paid into it throughout my career. I'd rather see companies step up rather than further stiff their employees.

The mindset that they'd like to drag everyone into the gutter rather than lift up all of us simply confounds me.

by Anonymousreply 55April 20, 2019 2:40 AM

Does anyone know what Muellers respond was?

Anyone else find it very strange that through all the chaos that nobody knows if we’re going to hear from this man or not?

Nobody knows?

Is that not super bizarre? Shouldn’t that be PRIORITY ONE?

by Anonymousreply 56April 20, 2019 2:43 AM

They are stupid and ignorant is the problem. They have no thinking skills. They are easily manipulated by the amoral assholes that make up the entirety of the Repug party at this point. The death of education and knowledge as things to strive for combined with religious zealotry is the Repug's entire strategy and its working. If we don't stop it, the country ends. It's as simple as that.

by Anonymousreply 57April 20, 2019 2:45 AM

r56...They just sent the notice....and they just said today that they are already in negotiations for his testimony date.

by Anonymousreply 58April 20, 2019 2:47 AM

If Mueller was ordered to end the investigation early, which is fairly obvious, and did not immediately make that known, he's as culpable as the rest of them. I assume he will refuse to answer a whole lot of questions when brought before the committees. He's used to taking orders. I hope he finds his way sooner rather than later or that he's been doing stuff behind the scenes that all comes out in an explosion that takes them all down, Deep Throat style.

by Anonymousreply 59April 20, 2019 2:48 AM

Is there any way Barr can block Mueller from testifying?

by Anonymousreply 60April 20, 2019 2:48 AM

Look, 24% of the country identifies as Republican. If 70% of those people support him we have a whole 16% of the country supporting trump. They control by fear and intimidation. We will win this

by Anonymousreply 61April 20, 2019 2:51 AM

R57 It started with the glorification of guns by deplorables. Like those are the root of "freedom" and the best America can offer. But now we have entered the GOP twilight zone with the glorification of cheating and lying. and getting way with treason. It's sickening. America became a superpower by attracting hardworking people and the best minds from around the world... but all that achievement is now being squandered by the small-mindedness of a corrupt "billionaire", provincial meatheads and religious nuts.

Here's the thing. Trump is not accountable and respects no laws, customs or traditions. If we have learned nothing else, we've seen how fragile our system is because he has been willing to push it to the limits and dare us to stop him. Nothing that comes out of his mouth is true. If Mueller was prevented from subpoenaing him, he will never testify to Congress. And no, a President does not testify during an impeachment.

I have said this before but it's worth repeating: The House of Representatives acts as a sort of grand jury. They hear testimony, they investigate, and gather evidence, and then they draw up charges, called Articles of Impeachment. Now the Speaker can appoint a Select Committee on Impeachment, or the House Judiciary committee can oversee those hearings.

Once they have drawn up Articles of Impeachment, which are comparable to charges or indictments, against the POTUS, the committee votes on them, and then sends it to the full House for a vote. Once the House votes to impeach, the charges are delivered before the Senate for a trial. Not sure what their process is, but I know Lindsey Graham is now chairman of Senate Judiciary.

If there's a Senate trial, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the trial. Witnesses are called, evidence is presented, and then there is a vote to convict. The President, if convicted by the Senate, must leave office. Once he leaves office he can be charged with criminal offenses by the appropriate authorities. He will no longer be a "sitting President." In order for the Senate to convict him, and run him out of office they need 67 votes. So 20 Republicans would have to vote with the Dems to get rid of him.

by Anonymousreply 65April 20, 2019 3:06 AM

As long as Impeachment is cast as a purely partisan political issue it will never happen. They need to start talking about what is contained in the report. First they need to hit hard about Russian interference. Remind the public of the convictions and guilty pleas. Then they need to talk about obstruction and how many times Trump attempted to obstruct justice.Make sure the public is very much aware of the fact that Russia will do it again. They have attacked us and we have been too busy arguing among ourselves to respond to the attacks. The media and the politicians need to repeatedly emphasize that it is not a partisan issue. It is about the country. The law, and being attacked. The Democrats need to make sure this is not viewed as partisan by the majority of Americans. They need a strategy and a PR campaign because the Republicans certainly have one.

by Anonymousreply 66April 20, 2019 3:13 AM

It's important to get the grand jury evidence and witness statements on the record. It is important to get everything into the official record. It is important to let Americans see, feel, and taste the distain the Republicans have for them. It is important for Americans to realize republicans sold out their country for opportunity to lick putins taint. However this turns out, Americans need to know the names of these traitors.

by Anonymousreply 77April 20, 2019 4:14 AM

This report is submitted to the Attorney General pursuant to 28 C.F.R. § 600.8(c), which states that, “[a]t the conclusion of the Special Counsel’s work, he ... shall provide the Attorney General a confidential report explaining the prosecution or declination decisions [the Special Counsel] reached.”

The Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion. Evidence of Russian government operations began to surface in mid-2016. In June, the Democratic National Committee and its cyber response team publicly announced that Russian hackers had compromised its computer network. Releases of hacked materials—hacks that public reporting soon attributed to the Russian government—began that same month. Additional releases followed in July through the organization WikiLeaks, with further releases in October and November.

In late July 2016, soon after WikiLeaks’s first release of stolen documents, a foreign government contacted the FBI about a May 2016 encounter with Trump Campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos. Papadopoulos had suggested to a representative of that foreign government that the Trump Campaign had received indications from the Russian government that it could assist the Campaign through the anonymous release of information damaging to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. That information prompted the FBI on July 31, 2016, to open an investigation into whether individuals associated with the Trump Campaign were coordinating with the Russian government in its interference activities.

That fall, two federal agencies jointly announced that the Russian government “directed recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including US political organizations,” and, “[t]hese thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process.” After the election, in late December 2016, the United States imposed sanctions on Russia for having interfered in the election. By early 2017, several congressional committees were examining Russia’s interference in the election.

Within the Executive Branch, these investigatory efforts ultimately led to the May 2017 appointment of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III. The order appointing the Special Counsel authorized him to investigate “the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election,” including any links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump Campaign.

As set forth in detail in this report, the Special Counsel’s investigation established that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election principally through two operations. First, a Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Second, a Russian intelligence service conducted computer-intrusion operations against entities, employees, and volunteers working on the Clinton Campaign and then released stolen documents. The investigation also identified numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign.

For Trump voters, it's about three things: murdering unborn babies, guns and black/brown people. I recently moved from California to a very red state. Most people here are republicans and it seems they have blinders on to anything other than those damn unborn babies. This is how Trump gets the female vote of republican women. For men, it's all about hunting and protecting their guns. These two issues player to lower class, lower educated people. The race issues seems more important to middle class people who may have been laid off from a plant or manufacturing job. They will vote against their own welfare (health care, education, public assistance) just to ensure that no one murders unborn babies and they get to keep their guns and no brown people live near them.

Anecdotally, after 2-3 years, I’m thinking most who support Fatty are the equivalent of opioid-addicted Long Island housewives. Since they’re ALL psychologically vulnerable, why can’t they be influenced to vote the other way?

by Anonymousreply 103April 20, 2019 11:46 AM

One thing we need to recognize. Trump does not have the support of 40+ of the voters. That is a fallacy that seems to sit out here uncorrected. More than 58% of likely voters say they will definitely not vote for him, including those who did vote for him in 2016. His base has not grown it has shrunk. The only way he wins again, is through fraud, suppression and foreign interference. And about 8% of likely voters are "not sure."

I will say again, the Democrats need to "package" the findings in the Mueller report into digestible bites for the public and sell it. I'm surprised that people are surprised by Barr's behavior. This is what he was hired to do. I'm surprised people are surprised that they would lie and spin this as vindication when it was really condemnation. Kelly Ann going on TV talking about how this is the worst of it and the President should be breathing a sigh of relief!

The other thing is that if the Media wanted to get rid of Trump and fuck with his support, they could make it happen. The relentless pounding they do on others, framing the narrative, heading in a particular direction, repeatedly looping certain damaging evidence they are very capable of neutralizing Fox and changing the narrative. We have to pressure them to do that.

They complain saying they're swamped with too much important news and there's so much happening, the big stories don't get the oxygen they need, and to an extent it's true. But they need to prioritize. Barr's ties to Alpha Bank, the significance of Alpha Bank, his ties to Russian businesses needs to be highlighted. One more thing: Stop being afraid of the Trumps. They're public figures. They can't sue. And stop promoting the concept that Trump's aides "stopped him" from Obstruction. They didn't. That's like saying that a guy tries to rob a bank and he's unsuccessful so he committed no crime. He was in the act of it. He would have completed the act except he was stopped. He is definitely guilty, legally guilty of Obstruction.

by Anonymousreply 109April 20, 2019 1:58 PM

Putin's International Research Agency in St. Petersburg (the troll farm) were solidly behind DJT and Bernie Sanders. Mueller's information confirmed this. Yet, the cable media is still all enthralled with Bernie Sanders (even Fox News sponsored a recent primetime town hall for him). Sanders has a record of opposing sanctions on Russia.

Democrats appalled by Trump's behavior involving Russia, then exclaim, by 20%+ of them, "feel the Bern", are showing hypocrisy or know little about Sanders background and voting record.

by Anonymousreply 110April 20, 2019 1:59 PM

I think a Warren/Buttigieg ticket is the way to win back our country.

by Anonymousreply 111April 20, 2019 2:22 PM

R110, the media has cherry picked the most sensational aspects of the report, and glossed over other parts. But the public hasn't yet walked through it and digested it. It is up to the Democrats to start packaging the report in digestible bits and start educating the public. The report is very important, because Russian interference was confirmed. And honestly, Mueller didn't even bother to mention certain things that are sitting out here about Facebook,Cambridge Analytica, and other people who blatantly lied. He can't just go after Manafort and Gates and some Russian agents and not bring Brad Parscale and Steve Bannon or the Mercers into this. And there was so much lying to Congress and to the investigators, and some, like FLynn got busted, but others Like Don,Jr. didn't. At this point Trump and his immediate family feel bullet proof, against prosecution. Meaning they will go even further. And Trump is already accusing those behind this investigation of committing treason by daring to investigate him. He is out for blood.

The bottom line IMO is that we have to affect public opinion. Before we can initiate Impeachment proceedings we have to lay the ground work and soften up public opinion. Those in favor of impeachment believe people will be riveted to their TV sets like they were during Watergate, and the hearings will get "the people " on our side. But I have my doubts about such reasoning. All the sensational revelations are pretty much out here. Michael Cohen testified. The only"big enchilada who hasn't is Mueller himself. But I just don't see the public getting too much more excited about hearings so we have to prepare them the same way you do advance publicity for a superhero movie. We need "tracking polls" to determine what we need to do and where and how we need to do it. We need the Pro impeachment forces who have deep pockets to get involved.

by Anonymousreply 115April 20, 2019 3:18 PM

Most conservatives couldn't care less about Trump's lack of morals or ethics. As long as they think he's doing everything in his power to fuck over liberals he could drink piss straight from a whore's cooch on live TV and they'd still support him.

by Anonymousreply 116April 20, 2019 3:21 PM

To the poster up thread, Barr can prevent Mueller from testifying as long as Mueller is an employee of the Department of Justice. While Barr suggested he had no problem with Mueller testifying at his hasty Thursday morning press conference, he’s likely to employ a strategy that delays the process or otherwise plays it as much into Trump’s favor as possible.

Speaking of testimony, the Democrats should consider securing either one or two members or a hired lawyer to do the majority of the questioning. The stakes are too high for five minute rounds with every backbencher trying to get their moment. We need a clear evidence and testimony gathering congressional investigation (in the Judiciary or a select committee) that uncovers and sets forth its findings in a clear and accessible manner to the American people.

Bring in each Mueller witness. Post the video, with relevant clips, online and through social media. Pull the damning quotes. Build a narrative. Sell the narrative with every member in every interview. The next 18 months are a great time for Americans to learn about the longtime criminality in Trump’s orbit. Have the public braying for impeachment before the election.

by Anonymousreply 117April 20, 2019 3:26 PM

R116 I agree so many or just out for owning liberals. My guess is its a hard 35%. However we can still win. I don't think much will change with impeachment...as long as 35% of the country get its new from right wing radio and Fox they won't even hear the evidence.

But how will we be able to elect Democrats when the voting systems have been hacked??

I truly believe this has been happening in FL for twenty years. I don't know how we can fight it. I mean, I can go to visit the supervisor of elections in my county and ask what that office is doing to prevent election fraud, but I won't be able to tell if anything is actually being done.

So many Republicans have gotten rich here in Florida by getting elected to public office (through all the interesting perquisites that go with it -- yes, I'm looking at you, Rick Scott) that I'm in despair that anything here will actually change. I attached the video of Clint Curtis and his story of voting machine code tampering for an illustration of just how long this has been going on here in Florida, and nothing's changed since then.

What we need is a racist, total social conservative to rise in the GOP. Yes, this is typical but here is the other part. This person needs to be completely economically liberal. I'm serious. Deplorables have been killed by GOP economic policies as have all of us. They will never let go of their abortion obsessions, their gun obsessions, their fear of anything other than white. But they do not favor conservative economics. I know these people. I live in a very red (though hurtling towards purple) state. We need to chip away at them over this. If they had a candidate (and I would pray they lost) who ran like this, was charismatic, and espoused social conservative/liberal economic views, even if they won, it would be a landslide for getting liberal economic polices enacted.

The Trump administration just lies about everything...like Kellyanne insisting Thursday was the best day in Trumps Presidency. Or Sanders insisting she nor the President have ever lied to the American People. Of course thanks to Mueller, maybe it was the best day for Lowlife, Trump. Honest to God, both of those ladies expressed those ridiculous opinions.

Kelly looks like she is dying, I hope that is true.

by Anonymousreply 144April 20, 2019 8:12 PM

I flipflop between wanting the Democrats to impeach in hope of get rid of him or waiting it out til 2020 in hope of a Democrat becoming President. Neither scenario is a sure thing. Either way it's a gamble and the Republicans know that the ball is in the Democrats court so they don't need to do anything.

I have a lot of relatives who are Trump haters. Nothing philosophical. THey just hate his personality. They love to see him mired in scandal. But now with this report out, all they're talking about is the Huckabeast. "Did you see how she lied about lying?" Well fuck me. We have known for sometime she was a chronic liar. I'd much rather see people start honing in on the critical information in that report but the media drives discussions and the people who hate him still hate him,and the people who support him still support him, and we need to reach with people in the middle who a re not watching the news every night for five hours, about the offenses he committed not Huckabeast. The way it's being handled the media is trivializing the Report.

by Anonymousreply 163April 20, 2019 11:19 PM

Barr is making a target of himself to draw attention from Trump. That is the only explanation for this clumsy and filmsy cover up for the Mueller Report that he knows would never hold up. It just bought Trump a little more time while Barr created a buffer of lies and misdirection around the Report. This is how Team Trump works. They commit their crimes in public view and dare you to call them on it. It's bully tactic by amoral thugs.

by Anonymousreply 164April 20, 2019 11:33 PM

That's my impression, too, r164.

by Anonymousreply 166April 20, 2019 11:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 167April 21, 2019 12:54 AM

R167 Barr voluntarily took the job specifically to thwart the Mueller investigation and its effect on GOP/Trump at whatever costs. He's just daring the Dems to do something about his own obstruction of justice. He obviously think the Dem leaders are too chickenshit.

by Anonymousreply 168April 21, 2019 12:59 AM

Dems are damned if they do, damned if they don't. Pelosi in a week or two will say "vote Trump out" and "try him within the statue of limitations, as soon as he's not POTUS"

I think its too early to see if the Dems can field a strong candidate but Biden, Warren and Sanders are way too old and not strong in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 169April 21, 2019 1:04 AM

Dems ignore the blue wave that enabled them to regain control of the House at their peril. Those voters didn't vote in droves to give Dems the majority in order for Dems to punt on impeaching Trump - regardless of what the Senate does. The Mueller report has made it as clear as day that Trump is unfit to occupy the White House. If Dems don't get busy holding hearings and issuing subpoenas ASAP - fuck this "we'll think about it tomorrow" bullshit - it's their own voters they'll be sacrificing. I don't know why the fuck they are so terrified of voters who never voted for them and will never vote for them, when it's their own voters they risk alienating if they display political cowardice instead of true leadership over the criminal-in-chief.

by Anonymousreply 170April 21, 2019 1:26 AM

R170 Dems always default to defensive posture even when it's time to attack. Someone should tell them impeachment will excite their own base! Their problem is they have no faith in their own liberal base, even while whining about Trump's stupid base.

by Anonymousreply 171April 21, 2019 1:43 AM

The Dems will never start impeachment hearings against Trump because Nancy Pelosi has already all but put it "off the table again".

Adam Schiff doesn't want impeachment hearings either.

by Anonymousreply 174April 21, 2019 2:25 AM

If the Democrats want to escape voter ire about not acting against Trump, then they need to place the focus where it belongs.Squarely on McConnell,Graham, and Barr. One of the reasons we won in 2018, is because people detested the Senate leadership so much as well as the House. We hated Nunes, Jordan, Ryan, etc.etc. Well Ryan is gone and McCarthy is a cipher. If I were Pelosi I'd say it out loud. We are more than willing to start an Impeachment investigation, hold hearings and draft articles of impeachment. But we know that the Senate will not act. They will block us,stop us,e tc.We need the Senate. It's that simple. And it happens to be true.

by Anonymousreply 179April 21, 2019 6:03 AM

The official investigations are just starting in the House. They are getting his financials now. They'll have his taxes soon. They'll get the unredacted report soon. They are calling both Mueller and Barr to testify. And, Trump is losing his shit more and more every single day. These investigations are what lead to impeachment. If they take the next year investigating the shit out of everything, they can impeach him right before the election and have the Repug candidate on trial during the election with indisputable evidence. That last part if very important because they can't risk it being played off as a political game. They need concrete, indisputable evidence that's clear enough for the Trumptards, in the country and the Senate, to be able to understand and not excuse.

Remember, we've only had the House for three months and the Repugs dragged their feet for a month in getting the committees up and running, so we've really only had two working months. It takes time.

by Anonymousreply 180April 21, 2019 6:20 AM

R180 Thank you. The trolls expecting the Dems have the power to snap their fingers and get results are delusional or actually, doing their troll work.

You all better be thankful we have ONE party who believes in all things America at this point. Of course, that is the Democratic Party.

by Anonymousreply 181April 21, 2019 6:31 AM

I know these investigations take time but I really want them to impeach him by the end of the year. I'm afraid they would be too afraid to do it in 2020 as it's an election year.

by Anonymousreply 182April 21, 2019 8:18 AM

R182 That's why the GOP is doing everything they can to delay and obstruct the Mueller Report. If the Dems don't decide on impeachment soon... they will be stuck with this cheater and liar going into another election. That is the best case scenario for the GOP. You can bet the GOP will cheat and lie even more in 2020 because their fate depends on it. They have placed all their bets on Trump... they are dead if he loses and the deplorable spell is broken.

by Anonymousreply 183April 21, 2019 8:25 AM

Trump will be done whenever Fox News turns on him. Right now he’s money in the bank

by Anonymousreply 184April 21, 2019 8:33 AM

unfortunately at every turn so far Fox has been able to wiggle and spin the truth. Since Mueller followed OLC policy and did not indict Trump on obstruction of justice and since he cut Trump/his family and associates slack whenever possible to appear fair, Fox can claim "there's no evidence of collusion and obstruction so this was all a witch hunt that is over". That is the message they're selling. Even though it's clear from the report that collusion did occur as well as obstruction. If we had had the Democratic version of Ken Starr in Mueller's place, a lot more people would have been indicted. Even with the extreme fairness Mueller showed, Fox is still claiming the investigation was highly unfair and partisan. So we've now learned that Democrats don't win when they play fair which is why I want the House Dems to play hardball. Fuck the repubs who don't extend us the same courtesy. I cannot wait until Trump's taxes are revealed.

My biggest concern is Barr will (or already has( interfere in the other ongoing investigations. Only NY state is independent from him. We don't know if any of the other investigations filed any indictments before Barr got there but I hope so. I wouldn't put it past him to block any new ones now. We know he's that fucking corrupt and immoral

by Anonymousreply 185April 21, 2019 8:41 AM

R185 You can bet Barr will interfere and obstruct as much as he can by abusing his power in his passive aggressive way. That why the Dem House has to investigate him and keep him on the defensive for as long as he is in office until he is removed. It's a chore but it's a must when you have someone so diabolically biases and amoral heading the DoJ.

by Anonymousreply 186April 21, 2019 12:04 PM

R185, I hear you. But this is what I don't get. Does Barr really have the power to stop an investigation into criminal wrong doing if a Grand Jury and the court are overseeing it? I think not. So if Mueller protected the investigations by empaneling Grand juries, then we may be OK. And if the FBI believes there is criminal wrong doing, or has reason to suspect criminal activity it doesn't need Barr's permission to investigate. I think Christopher Wray would protect the FBI.

by Anonymousreply 187April 21, 2019 12:10 PM

[quote]and if we are in a world where facts just don't matter any more, is it all just force? this honestly is starting to worry me. Because I seriously don't think there are Republicans who give a shit anymore, beyond, Trump is the Messiah and liberals suck.

Facts do matter, as Mueller's report - blacked out bits especially - shows. Trump wanted to shut down those facts from the word go; and hired Barr to rush Mueller's 'conclusion.' If facts didn't matter, Trump wouldn't lie so much.

The 'Messiah' drivel is sacrilegious even surely for atheists. Easiest thing in the world for someone of influence to list the seven deadly sins Trump embodies in full - more facts - and suggest his diabolism. If Trump doesn't embody the banality of evil, no-one does.

by Anonymousreply 188April 21, 2019 12:15 PM

Look. We know what Rudy will say. What I want to know is who is getting in his face and challenging his assertions? I'm not talking about "disagreeing with him" I'm talking about getting in his face!

I think the Democratic message ought to be the Truth. They need to say they are more than ready to start the process toward impeachment, but they are running into a brick wall because Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, are blocking them.

Then specifically say that they believe Trump broke the law and obstructed justice, but even more important the not only did Trump's campaign under his direction, cooperate with the Russian interference in our election, but that he has taken $500 Million out of the Homeland Security budget to try to combat the interference in 2020. His administration has done a very inadequate job of dealing with cyber attacks.

The punchline is there's no way anyone should get away with this. I think most people hate to see someone they know is guilty, actually get away with a crime.

trump & co are destroying our institutions and corrupting the legal system and rolling back protections as quickly as they can. There is nothing more important now than preserving our democracy and the rule of law.

Getting rid of trump, McConnell and their ilk is priority number one. if Democratic legislators can manage to make progress on other issues, great, but we all know that repukes will block anything they can so the main focus needs to be on exposing their crimes outvoting them.

by Anonymousreply 220April 21, 2019 8:12 PM

for the posters who think that the Senate voting not to remove Trump from office would backfire politically on Democrats, don't you think it could backfire politically on repubs? If the House Dems put on a show during hearings to air out all the evidence with testimonies from Mueller and multiple witnesses (some of whom were in the Trump administration), it would be damning. I think seeing and hearing it on tv would move the needle more with the public and show just how awful Trump is. Then they'd back the House impeaching. If the Senate chose to keep him, it would only encourage more voter turnout in 2020 against them

Impeaching Trump for obstructing an investigation into his campaign's collusion with Russia is nowhere near the same as impeaching Clinton for lying about his affair

by Anonymousreply 221April 21, 2019 8:16 PM

Even if Republicans don't say anything publically, maybe they're telling Schiff something privately.

R227 I do think Mueller should have been more forcefully in his conclusion. He wording was often speculative when he could have been direct. There was no need for him to word things in deference to the office when the occupant is an unrepentant criminal suspect who continues to this day to obstruct justice through his cronies. Mueller's saving grace was that he was very methodical in analyzing all the charges against Trump that could be tried ether in the House or after the presidency.

R223, Completely agree.

Elijah Cummings laid it all out:

First they want to talk to Barr again because for some weird reason they think that will do some good or that he'll magically start telling the truth.

Then they want to talk to Mueller.

Then they want to see the results of their investigations assuming they even get everything that they're asking for.

Maybe Mueller just doesn't appreciate the rot this corrupt individual has brought into the executive branch and the DoJ. It's not about just determining charges for collusion and obstruction, but about rampant corruption at the highest level of government. Even if he felt it was out of the scope of his investigation, when the corruption directly attacked the integrity of his work and stymied its progress, Mueller should have every right to condemn it and prosecute it in retaliation.

by Anonymousreply 238April 21, 2019 10:28 PM

Doubting it, R238: The scope of the Mueller report was strictly limited to Russian interference, Russian connection to Trumpito and obstruction of justice.

On the other hand, we have no fucking clue who the 16 referred SDNY defendants are, do we?...

by Anonymousreply 239April 21, 2019 10:37 PM

The Southern District of NY is part of the Justice Department headed by Barr. Barr can meddle with their staffing, funding, and other methods of interference.

By now, they should be more advanced with indictments and prosecutions. Is that staff timid, inept, hamstrung, lazy, or what? Some productivity needs to be seen.

by Anonymousreply 240April 21, 2019 10:38 PM

Cupp saying "he's got to go" is about as close to impeachment as you can get without saying the word. It's a waiting game now to see how many Republicans in Congress decide whether Trump can weather the storm...or not.

by Anonymousreply 241April 21, 2019 10:39 PM

This Easter, all the President's cronies are hard at work cleaning up his stinking pile of shit.

by Anonymousreply 242April 21, 2019 10:40 PM

R240- I think Barr is less likely now to try and fiddle with anything. He would have had an open field to do just that if he hadn't made that statement where he came off as Trump's personal lawyer. But that statement has got him ham-strung now.

by Anonymousreply 243April 21, 2019 10:41 PM

Trump impeachment hearings would be the best thing on TV.

[quote]The Southern District of NY is part of the Justice Department headed by Barr. Barr can meddle with their staffing, funding, and other methods of interference.

Hoping one of the first things House Dems do is to demand that Barr recuse himself from any and all SDNY TrumpRussia cases.

by Anonymousreply 246April 21, 2019 11:02 PM

Those of you talking about how the Democrats are just stalling and not going fast enough...do you remember that they have literally only had the power to do anything for a little over two months and just got the redacted Mueller report a few days ago? They do actually have to make a case, with strong, indisputable, hard to spin evidence. That will come from the hearings and all the information that they have been subpoenaing for the last two months. Nothing is instantaneous in government, especially when you are dealing with the level of absolute corruption that is the entire Repug party at this point. Stop pushing for things to go fast and just pay attention to how much is actually happening.

by Anonymousreply 247April 21, 2019 11:06 PM

R246 he'll either refuse or not give an answer. What can they do other than demanding? I mean it will make him look bad but he's shown he doesn't give a shit

by Anonymousreply 248April 21, 2019 11:06 PM

If Barr stonewalls on recusal the House could do two things in response:

a. start impeachingment proceedings against Barr (granted, extremely unlikely)

b. defund the Justice Department (also highly unlikely).

by Anonymousreply 249April 21, 2019 11:14 PM

*impeachment proceedings. Crikey.

by Anonymousreply 250April 21, 2019 11:15 PM

R247 The Dem leaders have been saying impeachment was off the table since they won the House. Not wait and see, but a flat no. That's why people feel they have to push. By pushing and demanding, the Dems will know there is support for impeachment from their base! And repercussions if they don't.

by Anonymousreply 251April 21, 2019 11:24 PM

R251, no, they haven't. They've been saying that until they see all the evidence and until there is any chance at bipartisanship even in the House that it would be futile. They've always said it depends on the evidence and, right now, we have the attorney general hiding the evidence. What do you think all the subpoenas and investigations are for? Shits and giggles? This is a legal proceeding. You have to do it the right way.

by Anonymousreply 252April 21, 2019 11:28 PM

R252 If you believe all the equivocating, I have a bridge to sell you. Good luck waiting for the GOP controlled government to hand over the "evidence". They will stall and obstruct until the end of time if they could. Subpoena is only as good as the spines of the Dems and we know how spineless they could be. The Dems will keep changing the goal post until the cows come home.

Democrats should inundate Fox “News” with interview requests. Go on Tucker, Hannity and Ingram, and don’t let them talk over or change the subject. Stay in their face. They’d freak out because they can’t debate on substance. Suddenly all these liberals would be on Ma and Pa Kettle’s TV making sense on real issues.

by Anonymousreply 255April 22, 2019 1:39 AM

R253, you really don't know what you are talking about. They've had two months. You are a troll.

R255 if they do that, Fox would just cut off their mics and end the interviews saying "look at these unhinged, angry Democrats with an agenda". No matter what we do, Fox will find a way to spin shit

And certified deprogramming techniques.

I've sprinkled my former boss' (sparse) information throughout this thread lately by not specifically saying it is from her. She is crazy busy with the redacted "report" coming out. Have faith in the Dems. Whatever they decide know they do it because there is a shit-ton of evidence to support impeachment or not. They have a ton of tools to work with. Let them sort this out. They are the true patriots.

I'm R261 and forgot to tag myself. I am glad you all figured out it was me (like it was difficult but who knows how many newbies we have).

The Dems are working hard on this my former boss said. Trust Nancy. Trust Schiff. Trust Maxine. Trust Nadler. There is so much more going on behind the scenes non of us know about. It is why Pres Bone Spurs is acting more psycho than usual. It is why Rudy was frothing at the mouth over it all. It is why the GOP is silent.

Dems are very dismayed at the total rot within the GOP. They are a bit stunned. They knew it was there in the Freedom caucus on the House side. There are some truly vile, anti-American reps who are GOPers. We just thought there were some good ones. Newsflash- Romney is not one of them despite his statement the other day.

Have faith! We will win this.

Tulsi Gabbard: Mueller report found 'no collusion took place,' Dems shouldn't push to impeach Trump

"the conclusion that came from that Mueller report was that no collusion took place. Now is the time for us to come together as a country to put the issues and the interests and the concerns that the American people have at the forefront, to take action to bring about real solutions for them."

by Anonymousreply 270April 22, 2019 4:07 AM

R270, yes, and the real concerns that the American people have at the forefront is that there is a mad man in the White House who is destroying our country country.

by Anonymousreply 271April 22, 2019 4:40 AM

I thought I Read that a lot of Mueller's hand overs to the various jurisdictions went through the courts and grand juries. If that's true, they may be out of reach, andBArr won't be able to do too much. Not sure. Someone with superior knowledge can correct me.

by Anonymousreply 272April 22, 2019 4:46 AM

On one hand, I would like the House Judiciary Committee to tell Barr to pound sand and cancel his hearing because his testimony isn't worth the time as he will do nothing but lie for the president. On the other hand, I would like to see them tell this to him in person in front of the Committee. I'd like to hear them ask him about his statements and how they are different from what was actually in the report. Ask him if he is representing the people or Trump. Put his corruption front and center on TV for all to see.

by Anonymousreply 273April 22, 2019 5:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 274April 22, 2019 5:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 289April 22, 2019 11:47 AM

emptywheel:

The Mueller Report does not include the investigation’s counterintelligence analysis. It says that explicitly. The most significant thing that doesn’t show up in this report is whether Trump was undercutting the investigation as a favor to Russia, reportedly one of the concerns Rod Rosenstein had when he first hired Mueller. This report does not explicitly treat that concern, at all.

That’s most evident in the way the report deals with Vladimir Putin in the post-inauguration period. The report itself invokes Putin at least 163 times, often describing the many different efforts to set up a meeting between Putin and Trump. But when Trump actually started meeting with top Russian officials — and Putin specifically — the report gets quiet.

If anything, new details released in this report provide even further reason to think Trump obstructed the Russian investigation to halt the counterintelligence analysis of his ties with Russia. But the report itself doesn’t ever explicitly consider whether that’s why Trump obstructed this investigation.

I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes, but what I want to see is more focus on the Republicans. Right now too many talking heads are talking about what the Democrats are or a re not doing, and no one seems to be calling the Republicans out. That needs to happen. I know behind the scenes Nancy is talking to Republican House members, and Schumer is talking to Senators, but I think there needs to be a huge public blast at them too. Media needs to start harassing them with questions. If Graham realizes the votes aren't there and his colleagues start shunning him, he will cave. He's a nasty little whore but he knows when the writing is on the wall. In fact he may be the one to help Trump cut a deal and resign. If Trump did resign you can bet Graham would be on the ticket with Pence. Of course he'd have to cut Nicki Haley to do that.

by Anonymousreply 291April 22, 2019 12:34 PM

The media giving airtime anymore to Rudy Giuliani, Kellyanne Conway, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is absurd. They lie over and over. The media is no better than they are when they are knowingly and deliberately exposing their audiences to repeated flagrant lies.

by Anonymousreply 292April 22, 2019 1:07 PM

As a trained journalist who got out, it's obvious to any of us that no matter what the reporter thinks, the spin masters are conservative assholes in all the media outlets.

I left when they allowed the monopolies across all media outlets.

You cannot have a debate with lies. To give these liars a platform is outrageous and wholly against journalistic standards and ethics....there is no fairness or equality when they refuse to even address the issues brought up and continue to spout propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 293April 22, 2019 1:13 PM

Since I've been accused of being a defeatist troll on this issue, can R52, R53, or anyone else show me any evidence that Trump's base is abandoning him? I haven't met a single Trumpette Asshole IRL who has turned against him. His polling is down a bit, but it hasn't crashed the way it should have. His loyalist primitives are still supporting him. That doesn't mean there's no hope. I have every reason to expect that a solid Dem candidate will destroy the fat OrangeShitGibbon, but that doesn't mean his base will have turned away. They'll still be there no matter what. He's their guy, their Racist in Chief.

R296, Really? I saw a poll yesterday that said it slipped down to 37%. But even that’s only temporary. These people never turn away from him no matter what.

Our best chance is to get a few of the “loves Trump but knows nothing about politics” types and give them a white male candidate that fits their narrative of religious family man. Even if Trump croaks, they’d still be running against Pence.

Those people are never going to vote for a woman, they see women as too weak. Get him out of there and then spend eight years deprogramming the cultists. A lot of them are easily led sheep and they just go with a winner.

by Anonymousreply 302April 22, 2019 2:01 PM

Reuters has it at 37%. They are usually on target.

Trump's base is approximately a third of the electorate. They are not abandoning him. Another 8% to 10% are "softer" Trump supporters, of which a portion of them could flip on their own or persuaded to reconsider based on new developments.

Democrats must produce a good candidate that generates wide appeal and enthusiasm. Voter turn-out is critical.

by Anonymousreply 313April 22, 2019 4:29 PM

You know, even Stevie Wonder and Andrea Bocelli can see that Mueller was discouraged and thwarted during his investigation.I can absolutely see Rosenstein telling Mueller that "Trump is a half step from shutting this down and we have to be really careful." I want you to do your job, but do it carefully. Mueller knew going after the family was verbotten. He knew insisting on a subpoena for Trump was not going to happen without a huge time consuming fight. But it is absurd that andGates are indicted, guilty pleas, convictions, etc. and Flynn lied to Congress (just like Don,Jr.) and they a re getting punished yet Trump walks away? Nonsense. Mueller has been operating with a hammer over his head since he walked thru the door. He knew very well the kind of pressure McCabe and Comey were under. He knew what people inside the DoJ were saying. I think one day the truth will come out about the internal workings with Rosenstein and Mueller, and eventually Barr. But Rosenstein is probably thinking about how he saved the Mueller investigation. And maybe he did.Because it' s pretty obvious Barr was the one who shut it down. Barr probably told Mueller to give him a "final report" within 30 days. And he did.

by Anonymousreply 314April 22, 2019 4:36 PM

MSNBC Criticized for ‘Ambush’ of Robert Mueller After Easter Church Service: ‘Disgusting and Rude’

MSNBC’s man-on-the street style reporting on Sunday is more commonly found on celebrity websites like TMZ. And while the network may have been looking to burnish its “truth to power” credentials, the moment was panned online with many on the right and the left criticizing the aggressive approach taken just after church services — with some wondering why the left-wing media organization didn’t get in Mueller’s face before the conclusion of his investigation.

“It’s always a good look for a media outlet @MSNBC to go and ambush someone on his way to church especially Easter service,” Fox Nation host David Webb said in response to the video.

“This is probably not the best look,” noted author and liberal columnist Molly Jong-Fast.

“This is very gross. Don’t do this,” Vox senior correspondent German Lopez added.

Sen. (Moscow) Mitch McConnell advises to 'move on' from impeachment talk.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday hit back at calls from some Democrats to start impeachment proceedings against President Trump, saying it's "time to move on."

"Well, look, I think it's time to move on. This investigation was about collusion, there's no collusion, no charges brought against the president on anything else, and I think the American people have had quite enough of it," McConnell told reporters in Kentucky, according to NBC News.

McConnell is one of 14 GOP senators, some of whom were members of the House at the time, who in 1998 either voted to either impeach or convict then-President Clinton on obstruction charges.

Impeachment proceedings would have to be initiated in the House. If the lower chamber passed impeachment articles against a president a trial would then be held in the Senate, which has successfully never voted to remove a president from office.

Mitch McConnell threatens to block everything if Trump loses in 2020

Mitch McConnell is already threatening to bring the country to a screeching halt if voters get rid of Trump.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is threatening to kill popular legislation and policies if voters elect a Democratic president in the 2020 election.

"If I'm still the majority leader in the Senate [in 2020], think of me as the Grim Reaper," McConnell told voters in Owensboro, Kentucky, on Monday. "None of that stuff is going to pass."

That stuff McConnell is so eager to kill? Popular progressive ideas like the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, which would help to clean up the environment and provide even more access to affordable health care. Even if voters reject Trump and the Republican agenda in 2020, McConnell is determined to do what he wants rather than what the voters want.

"I guarantee you that if I'm the last man standing and I'm still the majority leader, it ain't happening," he said. "I can promise you."

McConnell’s rhetoric is a throwback to his obstruction during President Barack Obama’s tenure, when he refused to even hold hearings on the Supreme Court nomination of Merrick Garland................................................

"The best way to handle Dems' questioning of McGahn would be to delegate all questioning to Judiciary Committee Counsel Barry Berke. He has years of experience as a trial lawyer. McGahn won't be feisty, but he's not on the Dems' team. Whoever questions him needs to be agile."

This was the best point---the Democrats need to lose this idea of certain members getting their share of the spotlight when they're useless at questioning. Giving all - or most - of the time over to a trial lawyer sounds like a good plan.

I gather HOC Speaker Bercow has done all he can to prevent Trump from addressing The House of Commons. Excellent. And there will be deep wide anti-Trump demos all over the country. It'll be high summer, and we Brits love our demos.

Bob Woodward: FBI, CIA Reliance on ‘Garbage’ Steele Dossier ‘Needs to Be Investigated’

Veteran reporter Bob Woodward said Monday that the intelligence community’s reliance on the infamous Steele dossier “needs to be investigated” in the wake of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s failure to corroborate many of the document’s key claims.

Woodward told Fox News’s Chris Wallace that he was disturbed to learn that the CIA cited information included in the Clinton-funded dossier in a rough draft of their January 2017 intelligence-community assessment detailing Russian election-interference efforts.

“What I found out recently, which was really quite surprising, the dossier, which really has got a lot of garbage in it and Mueller found that to be the case, early in building the intelligence-community assessment on Russian interference, in an early draft, they actually put the dossier on page two in kind of a breakout box,” Woodward said.

“I think it was the CIA pushing this. Real intelligence experts looked at this and said ‘No, this is not intelligence, this is garbage,’ and they took it out,” he continued. “But in this process, the idea that they would include something like that in one of the great stellar intelligence assessments, as Mueller also found out, is highly questionable. Needs to be investigated.”

Congressional Republicans have long demanded answers from the Department of Justice regarding how heavily the CIA and FBI relied on the Steele dossier when deciding to launch a counter-intelligence investigation into Russian interference in the election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. Those lawmakers, led by Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, are now focused on determining to what degree information from the dossier was used to justify the FBI’s application for a FISA warrant to surveil former Trump national-security adviser Carter Page.

Republicans have escalated their demands for transparency in the wake of the release of the Mueller report, which disproved a number of key claims included in the dossier, including the allegation that Michael Cohen traveled to Prague to meet with Russian hackers.

Attorney General William Barr told Congress earlier this month that he has formed a team within the Department of Justice to look into the origins of the counter-intelligence investigation, and mentioned the dossier specifically as a point of inquiry.

Someone said that if anyone tries to block getting this information, Congress has subpoena power but they also have the power to cut off money to departments like the IRS. But it seems the tricky part of that is you don't want to cut off the salary of clerks- just cut off the salary of the head of the IRS.

The question about McGahn---he's a private citizen so how would the WH be able to stop him from testifying?

by Anonymousreply 468April 23, 2019 10:30 PM

I actually think Pelosi is being smart about impeachment. She's letting it cook in the public's mind like a nice stew. Get people used to the word being out there first ---and "impeachment" is in the headlines every day. That way, it won't be such a shock when they actually do it.

by Anonymousreply 469April 23, 2019 10:33 PM

R470 That's a Russian talking point. People also forget Mike Pence was chosen by Manafort and the Russians, and implicated in all the many Russian-related scandals. He will also be investigated once Trump is out of the way. Furthermore, Pence will a lame duck with little hold over the deplorables once Trump is impeached. In fact, the deplorables and the GOP twill be completely devastated with Trump gone. You want to see these assholes crying for the asshole leader? Impeach!

by Anonymousreply 471April 23, 2019 10:56 PM

Yes, Pence and Pres Bone Spurs are exactly the same! There would not no difference. None.

by Anonymousreply 472April 23, 2019 11:00 PM

r469., I agree. With the tax records, Mueller, McGahn and evidence of 10 obstructions of justice, the House can and should continue to investigate as is their constitutional duty since anyone with half a brain can see Trump is acting like a guilty person and Barr clearly covered it up and is Donnie's stooge. This doesn't smell right to most and although few are going to take the time to read the SCO report (unless the unredacted version has info about the pee tapes and worse), they want the full truth to come out.

The more that comes out (and it will every day for the next year at least), Pelosi will slowly decide on Impeachment and at that point it will be inevitable.

by Anonymousreply 473April 23, 2019 11:20 PM

Sadly, 50% of the populace will not understand why "obstruction of justice" is a crime especially when Trump says he was just trying to shut down an "illegal" "witch-hunt" about "collusion" so he could get un with being presidential.

by Anonymousreply 474April 23, 2019 11:23 PM

A lot less than 50% are that stupid R474..

by Anonymousreply 475April 23, 2019 11:29 PM

People are not very clever. The current media culture is making them more stupid. We're suppose to appalled that enemy Russians trolls "influenced" our election (they did) yet professional American media and citizens on social media are themselves trolling 24/7 with low information literacy. The sad fact is that people are easily trolled. Who is going to fix that? It will/would take a generation.

by Anonymousreply 476April 23, 2019 11:32 PM

R475 you are going to be surprised. To the PUBLIC, The republicans will all toe the party line on that (made up collusion witch-hunt so who cares if Trump tried to shut it down) and they will drag their feet and be completely duplicitous, as they are now. Report: 5,000 Twitter bots pushed ‘Russiagate hoax’ after Mueller report

Andrew Wyrich — Daily Dot

More than 5,000 Twitter bots criticized what they called the “Russiagate hoax” following the release of the highly-anticipated report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller last week, according to a new report.

NBC News reports that a network of bots that had at one time pushed pro-Saudi Arabia messages sent out the messages following the release of Mueller’s investigation’s findings.

The bots were taken down on Sunday by Twitter, according to NBC News.

Most of the bots had a low number of posts and blasted the “Russiagate hoax” against President Donald Trump. Some of the accounts were rebranded and others were made seemingly just to boost the engagement of related tweets. One account, according to NBC News, was made to look like a news company.

Trump is under the impression that Twitter has been silencing republicans. He was especially concerned because he suddenly lost a chunk of followers....not realizing Twitter recently deleted a bunch of Bot accounts. He gets that impression from people like Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan....its then echoed by people like Mark Meadows and John Cornyn....of course Fox gives them a platform and that in turn goes straight to Trump. Its funny because Trump has one of the highest rates of Bots following him....its like a third of his followers. Yeah, he knew nothing about what the Russians were doing.

R502 It's happening the sinking the Trump Titanic. The Russians are gonna bail on him at some point, leaving him with just GOP cronies to circle the wagon. R336 here. I found the article, which is, ironically, in The Advocate. Why ironic? Because the new owners for the magazine are republicans/donate to anti-GLBT causes.

Pressure has to be put on the U.S. Senate. Republican Senators are allowing Trump and his administration to diminish the Constitutional authority of the Legislative branch.

by Anonymousreply 567April 24, 2019 6:32 PM

Senate Republicans don't care.

by Anonymousreply 568April 24, 2019 6:37 PM

They know this is their end game and want the interference they claim Democrats did nothing to stop (!) - We need to be out there and registering anyone who just turned 18 and educating everyone why it matters.

by Anonymousreply 569April 24, 2019 6:43 PM

Senate GOP = Traitors.

by Anonymousreply 570April 24, 2019 6:44 PM

Yes r566. It would appear Bernie is willing to lead his bros and sis's as well as the rest of the country right back into the abyss.

by Anonymousreply 571April 24, 2019 6:52 PM

I called his office since I'm a Vermonter who voted for his silly ass, and told his aide, DAYS ago, that the story in LGBTQ was trending. I feel betrayed by him, by his supporters, and for anyone giving this old coot a platform.

Why, when we have roads closed that cannot be fixed, no transportation infrastructure for jobs, and one of the highest rates of embezzlement in the nation (highest, I believe) by lying, thieving fraus who then get bullshit for time....why, ol' Bernie, do you think that record is good enough to run on?

Come home and fix this shit up and then you can say you actually DID something. I'm so fucking done with him and that's no lie.

by Anonymousreply 572April 24, 2019 6:56 PM

Dems must bang the drum of Russian interference. The Mueller report is clear there was hacking and interference, the Rethugs can't spin it as 'No interference' conclusion.

Drag all admin officials responsible for protecting against interference, hacking, manipulation and such in front of the committees and grill them.

by Anonymousreply 573April 24, 2019 6:57 PM

They need to hire a few of us to plan the campaign of truth, R573. Where is the DNC for fucks sake? I should be seeing attack ads against this asshole, his minions and his whole damn family yesterday.

Play the bit where they tabled the resolution to strengthen voting protection in the Senate. Play it over and over again. Play that bit where McTurtle says a voting holiday is out of the question and other drivel. Pence and Graham whining about Bill's infidelity and unfitness for the presidency.

Make them eat crow every damned day.

by Anonymousreply 574April 24, 2019 7:01 PM

R572, when you talk about lying, thieving fraus, are you talking about Mrs Sanders? Because the only reason she’s not in prison right now is her last name.

How can you vote for that piece of shit? Run yourself if there’s nobody decent.

by Anonymousreply 575April 24, 2019 7:12 PM

I am talking about her. She got away with it, just like a few others like her. Biggest grifters going.

I won't vote Republican, but damned did I hate having to choose him this round.

He's now done with me after not saying a damned thing about that report regarding 20% of his voters going for Trump if he isn't nominated. His behavior in not endorsing Mrs. Clinton, right away, should have been my clue.

by Anonymousreply 576April 24, 2019 7:21 PM

Look around. Maybe there’s somebody that willing to primary him. If not, run yourself. I’m not kidding AOC used to be a waitress.

Bitch wasn't going to get my vote in the primaries, either. He needs to retire from public life. He's embarrassing.

I called his office last year, asking if he was going to be stupid and run again for the Oval office and they told me he wouldn't. At that point, Jane was still on the hot seat with the big payout and investigations into their finances. There were rumors in the state that she was also sick. I told everyone here he wasn't running based on those comments. I now see he and his staff are a bunch of meglomaniacs and liars.

I hope he strokes out and takes the dotard with him. I want all old, white assholes considering a run this round to stroke out and die.

by Anonymousreply 579April 24, 2019 7:29 PM

You know something funny, R577? You're not the first person who's suggested it to me. I'm finishing up a degree right now and considering law school, and I'm no spring chicken, but I'm a heck of a lot younger than that fool.

I'll think on it.

LOL, you bitch.

by Anonymousreply 582April 24, 2019 7:36 PM

Good for you, R580. The only reason Bernie is still there is no one decent has the balls to run against him. I bet if people had an option, there are a lot of people that are sick of him and Jane. He’s a grifter.

Even if that person only did well, it would weaken him and he’s not going to live forever. Somebody has to replace him eventually.

by Anonymousreply 583April 24, 2019 7:40 PM

People's first clue about Bernard should have been that he wasn't a Democrat running on their ticket. Second clue was his history of having accomplished nothing in the Senate. Third clue was hacking in to HRCs database. Fourth clue was his shady business dealings. Fifth clue was his wife's shady business dealings. Sixth clue was refusing to release his taxes. Seventh clue was illegally using campaign funds to charter a private plane to stalk the Pope. Eighth clue was repeatedly breaking campaign finance law and refusing to submit required paperwork despite being asked numerous times. Ninth clue was his refusal to drop out of the Primary even when it was mathematically impossible for him to win and knowing it was splintering the party (to which he was never a part of). Tenth clue was.....

Thanks, R584, but I was talking about in-state shit and I could take up the argument about a few of your assertions, but won't. It's history. What's clear, absolutely, is what an asshole he is now.

I wanted to see the party of my youth and its old liberal values re-established away from the centrist platforms pushed by the Clintons and Bidens of the world. What I didn't want to see is the pie in the sky bs he advocated; like forgiving student loans and medicare for everyone.

Support your most needy, not those foolish enough to take out loans they couldn't afford. Change the usary rate, but no to forgiveness that just leaves the rest of us holding the bag. Do something to actually fix health care, establish a single payer system, and stop playing around with the freebie shit. That's just pandering.

No votes for incarcerated felons. You do the time, you get out, you can vote again. No one is denied any guaranteed freedoms, just the privilege of voting with other, law-abiding citizens. Telling folks you'd let the Boston Bomber vote is insane!!!! You have to be going senile to say shit like that.

by Anonymousreply 587April 24, 2019 7:51 PM

R585 Wake me up when the Dems put some teeth in their subpoena. Stop being polite, and start being real! We are dealing with criminals here, not honorable people.

by Anonymousreply 588April 24, 2019 7:52 PM

Yeah, all of that shows he was always an asshole and always a grifter.

You could do the same for just about any of these old farts. I always wonder why they choose to run when their bullshit will be scrutinized.

Yeah, Jane took her payout and that was legal. But she did lie about the school's assets and got away with it. She claimed she made the projections based on promised donations, etc., and so the courts believed her.

This state has a big problem with bitches who steal. They take millions (I'm looking at you, Joyce Bellavance) and then the whole community closes ranks and they get away with it.
