I watched the Scary Island episode properly tonight, rather than just clips of it. My god, she was crazy. I'm afraid to laugh a bit at the final dinner, especially when she Sonja was trying to praise Bethenny's food and said that she used to have a five star chef so she knows that this food is to that level, and all that time Kelly was leaned over her elbow waiting to talk - Sonja eventually said 'Yes Kell?' and she said 'we know about the past' in a really serious voice. I guess you have to see it but that bit was subtly surreal, in contrast to the over the top surrealness of the rest of it.

R17 It was like a reality show fused with a psychological horror film, and I'm not exaggerating. I've watched Scary Island more times than I would ever care to admit, and it wigs me out each time. All of the women (except Kelly) said it was far, far more disturbing than what any of us got to see. I would kill to see the entire the footage from that trip.

It's scary that someone like Kelly can appear so normal but it's like inside she's a delusional and paranoid child with a completely distorted perception of reality. It does make me wonder about how damaged her children might be by her behaviour. My guess/hope is that despite all her talk about being a single mum she doesn't actually do that much parenting. I would imagine that it's a personality disorder plus some kind of substance abuse but who knows? I think she's still blaming Bethenny for all of it so many years later. It must have damaged her socially and career-wise, because who would want to be associated with her after? She seemed to be all about her image and people wanting to use her name on things before that.

Yeah, and the remarkable thing is that Kelly Beensomeone got away with that image for all those years..

Of course she'd received a shitty edit. Her castmates and producers nearly enraged with jealousy, particularly the Red-White-Black skeleton.

Favorite scene: Season 2 when Kelley "Reads" the shit out of said skeleton in a lower-Manhattan bar, where Kelley was deliberately late, telling B, "Yeah, that's too bad."

Cartagena gave us that beautiful scene of two unrelated fights happening at the same table in the same shot, not to mention Lu's arrest and cabaret resurgence. I just re watched season three plus the reunion and they all hate Kelly.

The funniest part is that Jill could have easily filled the Barbara role this season.

When the show started Lu, Jill and Ramona were the established wives and mothers, Bethenny was an up and comer, and Silex were the strivers. Once Skinnygirl took off and Kelly and Sonja were added the whole social climber thing became sad and unnecessary. Plus both the Van Kempens lost their jobs in the recession so they couldn't even pretend to afford to social climb anymore. Without a real income to augment the housewives money they were dead in the water.

She lied about some of the most ridiculous things when the truth would have been easier. She took obnoxious to a whole new level, yet became weirdly self serious. Don't get me started on her Susan Saunders shenanigans. Jill was OK at the beginning, but her perceived "fame" really got into her head. No-one was weeping for her when she got the boot.

I think with time, some memories have mellowed as to just how ugh she was. It also doesn't hurt that some of the women on the other shows are even more repugnant.

It was Jill who raised it at the reunion and kept hammering away at it. I clearly remember the maliciousness of her attack, and the tone of her voice and her facial expression. She's really not a good person.

You can tell how the show/fame changed all of them. Look at the season 1 reunion and how fun and grounded they all were. I blame NJ and first ATL reunion for the big switch to vitriol and violence.

Bravo ran part of Season 3 today--including Scary Island, Luann's singing debut, etc. but not the reunion. Obviously my memory's not as good as I think it is, so my recollection that Jill was vicious at the reunion may be off. I've just always thought that she had a degree of malice far greater than the careless bitchery of the other women, and absolutely no sense at all of how her behavior might look to others. The cocktail party at Jen Whatsername's house, for openers, and her tantrum when she learned that no one had told her that Bethenny's father had died.

But my memory of Kelly's lunacy has never faded. Jeez, she is certifiable.

I really like Barb, she remains calm for the most part and stood up to Dorinda. Dorinda is really unhinged this season and it seems the Countess is not having it, she has really dug in. I like Dorinda - I think she's funny and generous. Yes, a lot of her previous behavior was alcohol fueled, but she seems to have gotten that under control. Offering to get those pissy drapes from Sonja's town house cleaned was very kind (who the F did Sonja rent to?) And it appeared that she had loads of her own crap still in the basement? She's a hot mess. And always seems a tad short on personal hygiene.

Lots of lez action this season: Barbara and the Countess, Sonja slobbering on that poor chick. And if Ramona keeps going on shitty "dates" like that one with Skeletor, she'll be turning to women pretty soon herself.

Agree that Tinsley's mother is is ghastly - she reminds me of an aging Vivien Leigh, but not in a good way.

Dorinda is a mess, but I appreciate her frustration with LuAnn in that she stood by her through Lu's crappy decisions, but LuAnn goes to rehab & finds religion and turns on the people who helped her when she was tits up the shrubs drunk. I'll bet Lu & Dorinda were drinking/drug buddies, hence the intense feeling of betrayal on Dorinda's part that Lu has turned all high & mighty on her. Tinsley seems like she wandered in from an entirely different Bravo show, maybe one about New York socialites, and somehow her scenes got edited into RHONY. She's totally incongruent with this current cast. Barbara on the other hand seems like a perfect addition and if she continues to remain a dynamic presence for the rest of this season (even after being given the "friend" edit), they should definitely offer her an apple next season and to hell with the opinions of the other ladies.

Dale is just stirring the pot to get Tinsley screen time. She bought those Tabitha Simmons just for that scene, and for that affect.

rinda has been a total shit stirrer in the past and I hated the gleeful look on her face in previous seasons when the stirring caused other women to argue - the sign of a deeply unpleasant person. Plus her thuggish behaviour when drunk is shocking. But I still support her against Luann who is absolutely insufferable. Her 'she's turning' comment on holiday was horrible and i'm not surprised it upset dorinda but because she was drunk she also handled it very badly. Then it sounds like Luann was rude with Dorinda over the non-invitation to john at cabaret night (not that i blame anyone for not wanting john anywhere near them).

All in all, no-one comes out of this well but it annoys me that all the blame is being put on Dorinda to apologise and Luann is enjoying lording it up over her 'Countess'-style. For someone who puts so much of her identity in being classy (she isn't), the scene at the charity was really classless, she came off like she was mocking the volunteers, her court-ordered role there, and even the recipients of the meals. She should never have allowed the cameras to come. I suppose the charity agreed to it because it was publicity for the good work they do maybe?

A huge part of me feels sorry for Tinsley, who is clearly a product of her upbringing and social circle in a way that very much hasn't worked out for her, and a part of me just thinks she should go and do something (anything!) useful with her life. But she's been taught that usefulness is being pretty, getting a man, and having children, to the point that she treats that as a career, which it was for many women in the past due to obvious societal constraints. I think at this point she needs to accept it may not happen and try and do something constructive with her time. But to be fair she may be doing all sorts of charity things that we don't see on camera (possibly).

She's sort of marooned in time, with a very old-fashioned attitude to the world but also in the body of a 43 year old who desperately wants the husband and children that are slipping away from her, but who also doesn't seem to have much in the way of useful job experience - you can't just walk into a career at that age, and certainly not one that would support the lifestyle she wants.

They were clearly told to keep this "feud" going between filming so they would have an opening arc for the new season. The main problem is that there is no clear reason behind it. Heckling Jovani?

What’s going on this season and what’s the point of it all? I’m not really liking what I’m watching. It’s one set up after another that doesn’t seem to go anywhere. When do they all turn on Lu? Kim Richards wants to talk about how Kyle stole her house, Kyle actually gave her a check. Lu straight up tried to sell the house out from under her children unbeknownst to them. Disgusting.

Lu refers to her situation as "after everything I've been through," completely ignoring that this was a mess of her own making, and she refers to her heartbreak over her kids' lawsuit, completely ignoring that her own children had to sue to enjoin the sale of a house in which they had a substantial financial stake. She's like a borderline (hell, maybe she is a borderline) in that she thinks that her version of the "facts" will be accepted as truth. She really is pond scum.

Btw, I think the production budget for her shows is likely not miniscule. Billy Stritch probably gets an impressive fee, and Rimalower gets his cut, plus the combo that plays for her, and whatever they pay her "guests." Still, these shows are making her a lot richer than whatever else she was doing for money.

I have been following Danielle Rollins on social media for a while. She is from Atlanta, married the son of a billionaire, had three kids with him, bought and restored an historic house and went through a nasty divorce. They seem to have been a famous socialite couple in Atlanta.

After the divorce she has been reinventing herself as an interior designer, she has a line of clothes and she has written a book about entertaining. She recently purchased a condo in Palm Beach and started to post photos of herself and a sleazy looking man who somehow looked familiar. After some googling I found out that he is Tom d'Agostino who was married to Luann in RHONY.

I have never really followed the show, but people were warning Danielle about Tom in the comments on her Instagram account. I am intrigued and I have always gotten the impression that Ms Rollins is in a league way above the RH ladies. Any gossip on her or her new love?

I’m not much of a person that fawns over celebrity, and the Housewives as celebrities is a questionable mark to me, but I did love being so close to her. In a strange way, and despite having based a lot of her identity on being a good businesswoman, I feel like she might not want to be depicted doing that anymore, like it's a bit beneath her. She's become a caricature over the years, when she was always clearly a nightmare but working at a business that was doing well but obviously not particularly high-end made her seem more real.

She rents out that Hamptons house for a princely sum one or two months a year at $150,000/month. She can then write off all of the expenses for the house. So, $300K from 2 months rental and what $600-700K from RH? So, minimum of $1 million a year for a few weeks work. That's pretty good when your homes are already paid off.

I have never seen such rude and graceless behaviour, and Ramona and Sonja didn't help by suggesting that she give her Bethenny's room and cackling away like it was the funniest thing ever.

At least some of that whole scene must have been done just for the cameras, but it was clearly real for Dorinda and poor Tinsley. And Luann thinks she knows about classiness? her behaviour is truly shocking. Can't wait for her comeuppance. Which is probably the point of this whole narrative. Can't work out how much she's in on playing the villain character though? I'm certain a lot of it was real but also some was surely exaggerated for affect?

So touching to see Bethenny dealing with her grief by bringing a grief counselor to her place. It was almost like they didn't have cameras set up to really get to the pain she's feeling. And it should do the doctor 's business a lot of good, to advertise like that. (grief therapy - will travel!) Well, it may be offset by the folks who feel maybe he's as big a media whore as she is, but there probably aren't as many of those around who watch the show, so he should be fine.

I had to fast-forward over the grief counselor bit it was so tacky I was embarrassed.

I don't think Luann is in on anything. She is one of the most entitled and self-involved people I've ever seen, and she truly believes that after what she's "been through" and Dorinda's mistreatment of her, she DESERVES the best room and everyone should have made sure she got it. She did the same thing a couple of seasons ago, when she claimed the best room because she was getting married.

The room B/S seems completely orchestrated in order to fuel the fire on an eventual Luann pile up. Bethenny has stayed in that house for 4 years and never once had a room problem. Now she needs to go to a hotel unless she has a specific room?

The reason, whether or not it's pretextual, is that Bethenny's still fragile/in mourning and needs privacy.

I feel like RHONY has just become too toxic, as have most of the women on it. I know that's part of the Housewives thing but the reason I watch RHONY rather than the others is because it wasn't completely toxic. Now watching it leaves me a bit depressed and horrified. The women talk about friendship all the time and clearly there is something there between a lot of them, but then the cameras go on and they act horrendously. NY always feels like *real* group of friends vs other franchises where it's just a group of women filming together (looking at you BH).

If they've lost even the illusion that they're together for any reason other than the show then what's the point? Otherwise it's just a random group of women who hate each other and are forced to drink together. Which is why, though it's imperfect, the storylines of RHONY feel like they have some basis in reality, and the arguments that dominate BH are about things that happened on the show itself - it becomes boringly self-referential.

I often feel sad for Tinsley, too. Topper has moved on with his life in the way that he wanted to, and Tinsley really is stuck in her former life, which no longer exists. That's why she wanted the "platform," r343--not to establish a business.

The NYSD types she aspired to become aren't useless airheads; they have careers or major philanthropic/civic responsibilities. Tinsley never had an interest in those things. She has, and had, no substance, and the "socialites" she hung out with were glorified club kids.

You can expect Lu to be nastier and irritable. After all she is a dry drunk. And in all seriousness she's probably still grieving the lives she thought she'd always have. (the Count, Tom). And her children certainly don't think that selling the house out from under them was just a "misunderstanding". If she were my mother I would distance myself. The trust is gone. Lu's a bit of a sociopath, isn't she?

That's what I was wondering about R345, whether that was the sort of life shed ever had or just sort of aspired to. I suppose she's thinking that she could have had access to the social circle with the right man rather than on her own merits (since that's how she's been brought up), but obviously that's not happening either.

I think she is a bit of a sociopath--that story about the "misunderstanding" with the house is a good example. Her story remains that the children were emotionally attached to the house so she relented.

I also think that her problem is bigger than alcohol. I've wondered before if she might be an untreated bipolar.

She had access to exactly that lifestyle when she was married, r347--the Mortimers are top shelf and they are very active philanthropically. But when she was with Topper, she was more interested in the flashy rich kids who basically went to clubs and drugged and got their names in the columns. Bravo ran a reality series featuring these people; it ran for one or maybe two seasons.

So she missed her shot because she didn't value that lifestyle when she had the opportunity to participate in it, and she wouldn't lower her socialite profile to suit her husband.

I wondered if she might have borderline personality disorder? the inconsistency, telling lies like they're the truth, because they are her reality at the time, irrational anger, using people then disposing of them, and the narcissism, all remind me of someone I know who has been diagnosed BPD. They seem to be solely guided by deeply held but very changeable feelings, tell blatant lies, everything is always about them, and will cut people off for the slightest offence, and can't recognise their own behaviour because in their world they are never at fault.

I have to say I think Jason being the perfect fiance before the marriage does actually fit with him being an abusive arsehole later on. I'm not surprised Bethenny has no patience for Luann. I suspect that intervention was not fun at all, and I have the impression that the events leading up to it were pretty terrible. I also suspect that when B said (previews?) that she got Luann "the room" in rehab and then Luann left after two weeks to do her cabaret, what she means is that she financed it and pulled some strings to get Lu in and now understands that Luann wasn't remotely serious about her sobriety--she just wanted to get out of the line of fire with her kids and to avoid the reunion.

I am now wondering if it was less a production decision in regard to Barbara and more the cast icing her out.

I think she referenced that in an early episode. She saw him and then stopped and then started again either just before or just after Dennis died. She certainly didn't meet him after Dennis died.

My jaw dropped when Dorinda said Bluestone Manor is "a Stanford White" with all those original features.

Poor Dorinda can't catch a break with these harpies - she heated the goddamn POOL, decorated the whole fucking place, hired a yoga guy and masseur for Madam Cabaret, hired the naked chef, etc etc. They eat her food and drink up all her liquor, and then have the gall to bitch about who has to sleep in the fish room! I would have pitched all their asses out!

Dorinda is the most aspirational of any of these women. In the restaurant last week when the bitches were bitching about the fish room, Dodo was reciting "it's an estate," "it's a manor;" "it's not a shack;" "each room cost half a million." Nonstop. Nobody refers to their home as a "manor," for god's sake.

Dorinda is so weak, she crawls to Luann who has treated her like trash and then takes out all the anger she was suppressing against Luann on Barbara, who was legitimately slightly dubious about sleeping in a room with taxidermy fish, but who didn't actually complain to her.

'I've never heard such rudeness' said Dorinda - conveniently forgetting about Luann's diabolical rudeness of the previous evening. And then when Luann finally apologises to her at dinner about it she says 'I should have thought' ie. 'I was in the wrong'.

It's like Dorinda trying to throw herself on Luann's mercy at the lunch they had (everyone seems to have forgotten that Luann isn't entirely innocent in this, including Dorinda herself), and then throwing Barbara out of her apartment for telling her how the lunch went from Luann's perspective when she had literally just asked her what Luann thought about the lunch. I think she's consistently directing all her suppressed feelings about Luann onto Barbara, who hasn't actually done anything wrong (unlike just about everyone else).

Then Bethenny, who is another person Dorinda seems to see as more powerful than her, turns up, she straight away tells her all the stuff Luann said, in the hopes presumably that Bethenny will fight her battle with Luann for her while she gets to mend their 'friendship' (what friendship? I'd despise anyone who treated me like Luann has treated her).

Dorinda must put all her money into Bluestone Manor. It's so weird how she has this beautiful house, but then her NYC pad is hideous...

If Luann cowered, there wouldn't be the tension that develops between them during the season. I think (based on clips) that Bethenny goes off on Luann for only being interested in her cabaret (while her bed in rehab remained empty for the second 2 weeks of the month B arranged) and Luann responds that she's a STAH and B should stand down. You can see it simmering already.

Bethenny seems to explode in Miami, but Luann seems to just sit there and let her yell again. Hopefully she does more.

I think Dorinda did just want to pacify Luann at this point but it can't have been in response to bad publicity around the early episodes at the beginning of this season because what we are seeing was filmed months ago. I can't see that publicity-wise anything changed since filming the first few episodes of season 11 and last night's episode?

But she was likely doing it to avoid being the bad guy, and also I think that Luann had more power in the group at that point as everyone seemed to have turned against Dorinda over this - so that could well have been the biggest motivator, realising that within the group she was being cast as the villain and that is what the public would also see.

As for Barbara, I definitely think Dorinda is taking out her repressed anger on her, partly because of her slavish devotion to Luann (which I agree, is really annoying, but she clearly doesn't know Luann like the others do), and partly because she has even less power in the group than Dorinda does and the other women don't like her so she is a safe target.

Dorinda earned her bad reputation last season--not so much with the restaurant scene in Colombia, if that had been all. But add that to the "Jovani" heckling (and it was heckling--D wanted credit for hooking Lu up with the designer) and she was a total jerk. So you're probably right that she was trying to get to a better place within the group--I'd forgotten that these scenes are no longer current when we see them.

I think Tinsley's finding her voice--it's just not a very interesting one. I do think the show's kind of worn out, and I'm still convinced Bethenny won't be back after this season. She has other ways to get the attention she wants, without having to interact with this group. R498 Heather's ghetto talk and behavior bugged the crap out of me, but I remember one particular episode where she took her son to the doctor - the son who had all the medical problems. The doctor tested the son's hearing and determined that the poor kid's hearing was continuing to deteriorate. Heather was trying so hard to be strong and positive for her son, but you could tell she was just heartbroken and devastated.

It was probably the one moment where I felt we were witnessing something authentic - a mother who would do anything to have her child free from pain and suffering, hoping against all odds for a positive outcome, but being hit with the realization that it wasn't going to get better and nothing she could do would change that. And in that moment, I gave Heather so much respect and empathy for handling the situation the way she did for her son.

It's mildly interesting to me to remember that when this show first aired, and for the first couple of seasons, these women were very concerned with presenting themselves as well-to-do "socialites" (not realizing that it's kind of a pejorative) if not women of social position. Over time that very thin veneer has worn away and they are more and more showing their origins. I wonder if part of their problem with Barbara is that she so clearly represents those origins.

There's no question that Barbara was going to be full time. That's why she's in so many sequences. But everyone obviously turned against her (except, I presume, Lu) and they couldn't really cut her out of everything, so this is what we get.

NY is really the only franchise where they get away with not showing any "family" life.
