Re: DTJr, the word from his camp in recent days, since the mystery phone calls surrounding the June 2016 adoptions meeting were “revealed” to have been to/from a Trump family Russian real estate guy (and not Trump Sr), is that Jr is now newly confident that he won’t be indicted.

Or is there new reporting in that Newsweek article?

by Anonymousreply 9February 9, 2019 6:16 PM

Oh never mind, it’s just a short clip of Natasha Bertrand from Maher last night.

by Anonymousreply 10February 9, 2019 6:18 PM

Jesus Christ won’t somebody please hurry up and indict that smug, ugly, douchebag son of the Cheeto? You know he’s lied about plenty of stuff - it’s genetic - the whole fucked up family lies! Let’s just get on with it already! Bring them down!

by Anonymousreply 11February 9, 2019 6:19 PM

R10, yeah, I don’t know why the phone call “reveal” would help him. He still lied to Congress about the meeting.

by Anonymousreply 12February 9, 2019 6:35 PM

All that phone call "reveal" does is show consciousness of guilt on both Individual 1 and Individual 1 Jr., so they're in deeper shit than ever. Makes it obvious that they used a go-between so that Jr. could truthfully deny calling Trump, and so that Trump could truthfully say Jr never called him, about that meeting. Instead, the Trump/Russian-connected family "friend" whom Jr. called about the meeting then called Trump. Hope Mueller has subpoenaed HIS phone records.

by Anonymousreply 13February 9, 2019 6:59 PM

I agree about the phone call: the guy they called wasn’t, you know, one of Jr’s best buddies whom he speaks to all day every day, no big deal. It was an old family “friend” who worked real estate deals for the Trumps in Russia (or tried to).

Regardless, Junior has supposedly been saying the phone call exonerates him, or something. Does he really believe that? Is that just a narrative he wants to be pushed in public? Similar to Ivanka’s “I am not concerned”?

Does he *really* no longer believe he’ll be indicted now?

Oh god, who cares. Just indict the fucker already.

DJT could have been listening on speakerphone per the meeting Junior had with the Russians. The calls could involve a go-between to send instructions to Junior, not to update Trump.

So, if Trump is damn healthy as his physicians have stated on record, then Trump can't use ill health and diminished mental capacity as a defense to his wrongdoings, can he?

I love that fact that Don Junior has probably cried in abject terror in private about what is soon coming his way.

And that Abby Huntsman interview with Ivanka was so ridiculously transparent. She was like a robot in “sell mode” trying to re-direct messaging (“We’re innocent because we’re ACTING innocent. I wore a red lip to the SOTU.”) Not an ounce of truth or authenticity in a single thing she was saying. She’s another one who will eventually go down. It will just be in New York.

When Trump Jr and Kushner are indicted, that will pretty much confirm the ending of the investigation...right?

by Anonymousreply 35February 9, 2019 11:01 PM

R35, well... Perhaps not.

by Anonymousreply 36February 9, 2019 11:05 PM

Not if you follow Seth Abramson's Twitter feed, r35. With all the new dirt Mueller keeps uncovering, the investigation is ever expanding.

by Anonymousreply 37February 9, 2019 11:07 PM

I actually can foresee a day when Mueller completes his phase of the work, and recommends to Congress that a permanent office of special investigations of Executive branch related corruption be established. It would eventually be folded into something that already exists at the FBI/DOJ, but the strands of this thing reach far and wide and could go on for several more years.

The public needs time to process the Mueller findings before the election, we need some parts of the investigation wrapping up.

by Anonymousreply 40February 9, 2019 11:36 PM

Mueller is not going to wrap up any part of the investigation until he's good and ready. "The public" has no say in it.

by Anonymousreply 41February 9, 2019 11:40 PM

So what happens if Mueller does not release anything before 2020 because he's not ready to wrap up? Trump and Co. will easily be able to claim that it was all a nothingburger and that the witch hunt is a failure.

by Anonymousreply 42February 10, 2019 12:15 AM

That won't happen

by Anonymousreply 43February 10, 2019 12:17 AM

Mueller has his own timetable and he is also very mindful of the 2020 Presidential election. So, IMO I would bet he has a "window" of when he will hand down major indictments. Once we start the major campaign season he will not do anything that can be interpreted as partisan. OTOH, I think he has uncovered such evil shit he is going to dot every I and cross every T to make sure he is airtight. And to make sure the Virginia and NY operations move forward. So thorough, accurate, and timely.

by Anonymousreply 44February 10, 2019 12:29 AM

As much as I want Junior locked up, you have to realize this- the moment Mueller indicts the kids is the moment Trumpito starts burning everything to the ground.

Timing is everything.

by Anonymousreply 45February 10, 2019 12:48 AM

Jared, Junior and any of the other kids will be THE LAST dominoes to fall.....everyone else is expendable to Trump. I cant wait for Bannon and Prince to fall....that will be glorious.

by Anonymousreply 46February 10, 2019 12:54 AM

Indictments of family members will be one of the last components and may happen together at once, with some charges labeled as co-conspirators.

Mueller will probably not move with new indictments while Whitaker is acting AG. The Stone arrest was planned before Whitaker got appointed.

Barr will get confirmed, probably next week. Hopefully, he will allow Mueller to finish his job unimpeded. Congress needs to watch this carefully, and proceed diligently with their own inquires.

by Anonymousreply 48February 10, 2019 1:11 AM

Last night, Rachel pointed out something interesting.

You know how some people have been saying that Mueller will wrap everything up by the end of the meeting month?

Bearing that in mind that Cohen was supposed to give testimony last week but didn't? It got pushed back to the end of February. Nobody on the House intelligence committee said boo about it. They were fine with it.

Now, this coming week, red sparrow butina was supposed to appear in court for sentencing but last week, Mueller's team requested it be delayed until the end of February as she is still helping them and testifying before the grand jury.

So something big is coming down the pike before the end of the month and it involves Cohen and Butina.

[quote] Mueller has to follow DoJ protocols and rules. SDNY is aggressive and tenacious.

The SDNY also has to follow those same DOJ rules and regulations. That's not to say that the investigations out of NY don't pose a threat to tRump -- they do. And, he can't stop them by firing anyone. HE certainly can't suppress their work by sending orders to do so "down the chain of command." They are career prosecutors. If anyone knows how to howl to the press about political influence on pending criminal investigations it is the AUSAs in the SDNY and their law enforcement pals. They are not shy about anything.

[quote] So what happens if Mueller does not release anything before 2020 because he's not ready to wrap up? Trump and Co. will easily be able to claim that it was all a nothingburger and that the witch hunt is a failure.

Sorry, but at this point about 55 percent of the country already thinks that we have a criminal in the White House. That "nothingburger" line will work on his hard-core supporters but no one else. Plus, by the time that we reach November 2020, there will be even more associates of DJT who have been indicted, convicted, or who have pled guilty. At best, he will still be in the WH and under siege. That is not the way you win a presidential election.

Personally, I don't think he'll make it through 2019. But, we'll see.

Fat Christie Kreme just on Fox news. Anchor Jesse Watters asked him what would it be like if he was picked as Attorney General over Jeff Sessions. In a snarky and haughty response, fatty immediately said “oh there wouldn’t be a Mueller investigation”

Watters was like “what”? Christie repeated his response.

So what would he do, have Congress investigate the Russia investigation? Hilarious. What a cunt. And he was on Bill Maher last night trying to be a Repug with a voice of reason. Fucking laughable.

by Anonymousreply 57February 10, 2019 3:51 AM

Before Mueller was appointed, the FBI was handling the investigation. Christie argued back in the day that the FBI was perfectly capable of carrying out the investigation, and a special counsel wasn't needed. It was the firing of Comey that triggered the appointment of Bob Mueller. Christie claimed that he told Trump that if he was going to fire Comey, it should be at the beginning of the administration, when it was normal for personnel to change. I expect Christie's point was, if Christie was the AG, he either never would have fired Comey, thus triggering the appointment of Mueller, or Comey would have been replaced at the beginning of the administration, when nobody would have blinked an eye.

by Anonymousreply 58February 10, 2019 7:42 AM

Thanks op.

Yes, there is a change in political appointees when a new administration comes in. All political appointees have to tender their resignations. And, nearly all of them are told that they need to be gone by Inauguration Day, January 20. However, Comey didn't hold a typical political appointment. The FBI Director's position is for a 10-year term. True, the Director still serves at the pleasure of the President, but you would only get fired if it were for cause -- e.g., when Bill Clinton fired Director William Sessions. So, it nevertheless would have been problematic because the FBI had an ongoing investigation into Russian meddling. tRump couldn't have included the FBI Director in the usual spate of departing and incoming political appointees because that's not the way this law enforcement appointment works.

by Anonymousreply 60February 10, 2019 10:19 AM

How pathetic is Sessions at this point. I mean, what a complete loser in every way.

by Anonymousreply 61February 10, 2019 10:40 AM

Why would anyone deny that collusion and then obstruction took place? Of course it did. It was done on national television.

by Anonymousreply 62February 10, 2019 11:02 AM

It just goes to show the power of gaslighting.

by Anonymousreply 63February 10, 2019 11:03 AM

I ventured into redneck land yesterday here in Florida.

On the back of a big, “good ol’ boy” pick-up truck, I saw a Trump Pence sticker — except the “Trump” part was obviously deliberately torn off.

He’s losing his base

by Anonymousreply 64February 10, 2019 11:18 AM

I 've been seeing articles about how pissed off Trump supporters are about paying more taxes. Anecdotes saying "he's not getting my vote!" It is obvious to most rational people, that his base has been shrinking ever since Inauguration Day in 2019. Various constituencies are turning their back on him. The most legitimate data out here claims he has the support of less than 38% of all registered voters.

In the weeks leading to his resignation, Nixon had a higher level of support. Until they had the Watergate hearings on TV most people had no idea what that was. But even if you live in a cave you're marginally aware of the Russia investigation. The thing is for the general clueless population you tell them about bribery and lying, they get that. But our media needs to do a much better job of making people understand that Vladimir Putin is evil, and that he is not our friend and we need to make them understand why it is illegal for foreigners to interfere in our elections.

I had a very brief conversation about Russia with a friend of my mother's and she said, "Honey, listen they're all corrupt! They all interfere. You think Obama and those Clintons were saints? Far from it! America interferes in other countries all the time, so what do you expect? Now they are doing the same thing to us. Why are these people so upset with this poor President, when he is doing the same things all the other ones do? I'm not gonna worry about it." That was her final word on Russia.

by Anonymousreply 66February 10, 2019 11:34 AM

Of course R65, DJT's base has largely moved from the message of "Trump didn't do such, he's cleaning up Washington", to "both sides do this, but Trump is getting things done". Fox News babbles out what thoughts they are to embrace.

Well, obviously the Republicans count on the stupidity of their supporters, or the "Low Information" voters. THe only thing we can really do is inform people with facts and do reality checks. One of the things that I'm impressed with is that younger people are disagreeing with their parents and relatives on important issues like the environment and about reasonable gun safety regulations. That's important. Because we can drive a wedge between the older Conservative voters, and the younger ones. younger voters are very concerned about paying for education, about minimum wage jobs, about healthcare. The most important thing to remember is Trump and the Republicans have a shrinking base. So we have to make sure elections are free and fair. End fraud and voter suppression. Holder and Obama are doing an effective job, but we have a lot more to do. WE need to do what we did in 2018, but start earlier and do it on steroids.

The thing I find chilling is that everything our media is reporting, the whole world is aware of it. The whole world knows he doesn't even read his daily intelligence briefings. The whole world knows he doesn't believe his own Intel people. We are so fucking vulnerable right now. Are the Republicans ignorant of that? Does Mitch McConnell not realize we're in grave, immediate danger? Doe these people have no shame? HAve they lost their capacity to feel embarrassment?

by Anonymousreply 73February 10, 2019 1:58 PM

I assume that everyone has seen the tweet in which Trump made a joke about the Trail of Tears?

Honestly, I have written off every family member and former friend who still supports this disgusting piece of offal sitting in the White House. And they really are kind of begging to come back and still have relationships with me. It’s fun now to ignore, punch, and delete. Elections DO have consequences, cunts.

And his supporters' defense is that Trump is too ignorant to know about a major event in U.S. history. Britt Hume:

The Trail (of Tears) language has Steve Miller written all over it. They are nasty, but more cleverly presented. Trump probably knew nothing about the event that happened under President Andrew Jackson, whom he purportedly admires for defiant behavior.

The very early morning tweets are usually all Trump.

by Anonymousreply 84February 10, 2019 3:28 PM

R83, love it!

by Anonymousreply 85February 10, 2019 3:30 PM

R84, I hate Trump, but I don't know if that was a Trail of Tears reference. He doesn't know anything. It's like saying to a cowboy "See you on the range." He's a moron and knows nothing, regardless of the Jackson worship.

by Anonymousreply 86February 10, 2019 3:32 PM

TRAIL was all caps. The word was meant to be emphasized, but allows for a defense of an alternative interpretation. That's Miller.

by Anonymousreply 87February 10, 2019 3:39 PM

Trump is a proven bigot who among other races, does not care for native Americans either.

How he gets away with this shit again and again is the real mystery.

by Anonymousreply 88February 10, 2019 3:42 PM

Tom Nichols:

I don't think (Trump)'s bright enough to understand the reference, but the person who wrote that tweet and those speeches - and whoever carefully explained Jackson to him in order to put up that picture - did. I'm not being sarcastic.

But it really is astonishing to see Brit (Hume) arguing that we have to give the President of the United States a pass on a racist tweet on the possibility that he is just too rock-stupid to understand a reference to a major event in US history.

by Anonymousreply 89February 10, 2019 3:43 PM

If he doesn't know about the TRAIL of TEARS genocide that Jackson enforced then...

The inclusion of FDR might be supported by his internment of the Japanese and other decisions, but their supporting it by citing SC decisions against New Deal programs and saying that he "essentially turned the US into a socialist nation" shows their biased equation of social democracy to authoritarianism. And they muddle things by placing his actions during WWII, when those SC decisions were much earlier.

"By starting a lot of the federal programs that are still in place today, Roosevelt essentially turned the U.S. into a socialist nation."

Absurd.

by Anonymousreply 98February 10, 2019 4:26 PM

Agree with you on that, r94. Also, FDR tried to add unilaterally new seats on the Supreme Court that favored his agenda.

Didn't most New Deal program proposals go through Congress? Congress appropriates the funding. Not much could get funding through decree.

by Anonymousreply 99February 10, 2019 4:26 PM

R92, FDR tried to pass legislation to add judges to the Supreme Court. Congress resisted and so FDR dropped it. It wasn't unilateral.

by Anonymousreply 100February 10, 2019 4:28 PM

Unilateral: (of an action or decision) performed by or affecting only one person, group, or country involved in a particular situation, without the agreement of another or the others.

Seeking Congressional approval for an action isn't unilateral.

What's interesting to note is that modern presidents don't typically fire the FBI Director when they are elected president. The FBI Director is a non-political position. The position comes with a 10 year term to ensure continuation of policies. Mueller as FBI Director was appointed under Bush and served his 10 year term. Obama even extended it by two years. Comey was almost unanimously approved by the Senate in 2013 and had a term that would have expired in 2023. What's interesting to speculate is that given all the errors that Comey did in regards to Hillary's emails, I doubt she would have fired him. It would have looked too bad for her politically. But yet it was okay for Trump.

by Anonymousreply 107February 10, 2019 5:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 108February 10, 2019 5:42 PM

Lindsey Graham wants to investigate first, as Senate Judiciary Chair, Judge-approved FISA warrants on Carter Page. Page had been meeting with a couple of Russian intelligence agents known by the F-B-I. Plus, he was making multiple trips to Moscow while even noted by Trump, was a foreign policy advisor to the campaign. It would be negligence by U.S. investigators not to inquire if Page, knowingly or unknowingly, was compromised.

Second, Graham wants to re-hash HRC's Emails and the Benghazi matter that have been investigated by then, Republican controlled House and Senate Committees, multiple times each. Comey investigated, in open and closed fashion, her Emails and eventually closed the investigation near election day and gave a report that it did not ride to the level for prosecution.. Graham also wants to investigate Obama about Trump Tower surveillance, a claim that was investigated and dismissed. Graham wants to go back into investigating the more senior DoJ/fbi employees who apparently weren't Trumpians enough, or have been suspected of being Democrats, battering again individuals who have already been scrutinized and mostly have departed the agency or were re-assigned.

Obviously, Graham does not want to put Trump-Russia on the table if it is focused on Trump and his inner circle of cohorts. Russian meddling doesn't seem to be a priority matter either.

by Anonymousreply 109February 10, 2019 6:21 PM

It's very evident that Russia or David Pecker have video proof of Lindsay with an underage boy. That's the only reason someone can go from "Donald Trump is an idiot and will destroy our party" to one of his henchmen. Trump showed him the evidence on the golf course and everything changed. The simplest answer is often the correct answer.

Pecker was suppose to not engage in any more legal violations, or the agreement not to prosecute him is subject to termination. He was given immunity in exchange for cooperation. If it is shown that Pecker acted in behalf of Trump, with Trump's knowledge, in trying to blackmail Bezos, that will be a monumental development.

DJT, MBS, and Pecker appear to have a common desire to silence and/or discredit the Washington Post and Bezos on several storylines.

They are messing with perhaps the world's wealthiest man in Bezos, who has unlimited resources to fight back, including owning a powerful, respected, and legitimate newspaper. Add the fbi getting further involved, AMI is in deep shit.

by Anonymousreply 137February 11, 2019 12:18 AM

Pence wasn't touched during 2016. In the one VP candidate debate, CNN (I believe) did not ask one question of Pence about gay rights. Tim Kaine, showing way too much deference, never took the opportunity to bring up Pence's anti-gay record. Indiana, while Pence was Governor, faced a boycott over anti-gay legislation, and ended up having to modify or limit the implications of the policy/legislation. LGBT discrimination based on "religious rights" has been Pence's signature issue for many years, and the mainstream media, and the Clinton-Kaine ticket did not go after Pence much on anything. Pence had become an unpopular Indiana Governor over several major issues, yet he did not have to defend his record. During 2016, Mike Pence, and Bernie Sanders earlier, seemed 'off-limits' for major scrutiny and confrontation by the opposition and the media.

And way too many gays were saying, "we got gay marriage, it's over". No it isn't. LGBT rights are steadily being undermined using "religious liberty" as the mechanism.

by Anonymousreply 138February 11, 2019 12:32 AM

Not to mention, r137, it will be true.

If you have several major federal investigations looming and ongoing investigations in the House and Senate, let that be the story for now! Evidence of wrongdoing will continue to surface. Support will continue to erode. You need to condition the persuadable voters that something is not right before you can convince them that the remedies are impeachment and voting Republicans out of office.

We want to win the majority so that our next president can enact her or his legislative agenda that keeps our planet, our freedoms, and our democracy healthy.

All this chatter about which Democrat can beat Trump is bullshit. It's the Media trying to entrap us and get us to think in the same old defeatist way. Any fucking Democrat including my dog Sippy can beat Trump. We have to get out the vote. We have to focus like we did a few months ago, and make sure voter registrations are up, and watchdogs in place and lawsuits are filed early enough to have an impact to make sure no one can steal votes again, and we just vote for Democrats. Up and down the ballot. State legislatures State offices, local offices, liberal judges at the state level, and make fucking sure that who ever the Democratic Nominee is, they get our votes. Period. There is not one single Republican living who can have the fucking nerve to throw a rock or criticize any of the Democratic candidates and do not allow the media to get away with promoting that point of view. Fuck all of them The media made Donald Trump in 2016, and they will not fuck us over in 2020.

Don't be baited, don't be manipulated. If we get off our asses and show up, we win. But you have to show up. I don't want anyone telling me, "well so-and-so isn't likeable" or that you can't "get enthusiastic" about anyone. Get enthusiastic about running those fuckers out of Washington. Taking the Senate, holding the House and defeating Trump. or Pence or WTF ever. And get the down ballot races filled out too. I am sick and tired of these fuckers, and I have very little respect for the media. They are reporting on Trump's excesses right now, but they're also gunning for Warren and Klobuchar and Harris and anyone else who looks viable. R150 There is a difference between working for a tough boss and a bat-shit crazy one. I worked for one of the crazies in the entertainment industry (actually several). The Murphy Brown characteristic of firing her assistant every episode was based on one of my bosses. I managed two years and left the day she threw a binder at my head. She wasn't tough. by Anonymousreply 160February 11, 2019 5:18 PM

I think if the report is devastating to the president and the DOJ tries to hide it from the public then we're going to have an awful lot of people with inside info who will be willing to leak. Mueller's team hasn't given up two years of their lives to have their work hidden by a president who may or may not be a Russian asset. Doubtless covered elsewhere, but I just saw the clip of a BBC cameraman being attacked by a Deplorable at the rally last night, amid animalistic crowd baying.

That was stomach-turning enough; but nausea was compounded when Grotesque-in-chief blurted with pseudo-authority and pseudo-care, "Is everything OK now? You all right?" Yes, it's absolutely fine when a free press is attacked violently in a first-world country. These little things can pop up at any time.

Next, a clip from a brawl in a balcony (crowd baying again). Cut to Grotesque: "Where do these people come from?! (Nutty goofy shrug.) They come to see you, Grotesque, because they're your people. You created this, and when it looks as ugly as it is, you try to disown it. Bully = Coward? Check. The whole world can see it.

Thank you, R182. This is chilling. Here's is the key paragraph worth remembering. I haven't read the whole thing but this resonates:

"Psy-Group stood out from many of its rivals because it didn’t just gather intelligence; it specialized in covertly spreading messages to influence what people believed and how they behaved. Its operatives took advantage of technological innovations and lax governmental oversight. “Social media allows you to reach virtually anyone and to play with their minds,” Uzi Shaya, a former senior Israeli intelligence officer, said. “You can do whatever you want. You can be whoever you want. It’s a place where wars are fought, elections are won, and terror is promoted. There are no regulations. It is a no man’s land.”

Why does MSNBC keep giving that hack Ken Dilanian airtime and using "Breaking News" for his bullshit stories. He is a shill and parrots what the White House tells him. So we are supposed to believe that the Senate IC has found no evidence of "collusion" between Trump and Russia ? Are we living in an alternate reality ? Helen Keller could see the fucking collusion. Its in front of our face EVERY DAY.

by Anonymousreply 191February 12, 2019 2:34 PM

Here's something to keep in mind. Yes this Mossad for Hire thing is very scary, but that is exactly the model Brad Parscale, Steve Bannon and Rebekkah Mercer were working on...with help from Facebook IT people, and others back in 2015, 2016. Cambridge Analytica 's basic premise was not just predictive, of voter behavior, it was shaping it.

And if you think about it, our news media has been doing this for years. They shape public opinion and they shape the agenda and the issues. They decide what we should focus on:"E-mails!!!" and the sheeple follow their lead. Social media threw a wrench into things, but they adapted. Ever since the 1950's when the advertising guys , the soap salesmen started working on political campaigns, this has been going on with various refinements.

That's why as we go into the 2020 election cycle we need to be real smart. Because in 2018, we were dealing with a lot of local elections. But the national campaigns lend themselves to this kind of craap much easier, defining the issues, and framing public reactions to the issues they have decided are important. So we need to be vigilant. For example, you know who you can trust in the media, and those are your "go to " sources. But even then, in some cases, they will go off on us.

My personal plan is to stick with the news sources I can trust, and deal with C Span more. Because I don't need a CNN Panel comprised of Trumpanistas "for balance" to tell me what someone just said or how I ought to react to it. I will watch the candidates unfiltered. I will decide. And of course I will come here to discuss it because we're fun.

I 'll watch reputable news pundits out of curiosity. But I will do my own thinking. In general, I get pissed off at the selective decisions of what the media decides to cover. They run after a lot of bullshit and it eats up their news time and then something important gets ignored. It's getting harder, but I 'm going to do my own digging to ferret out information. Fortunately, as bad as social media can be, it also works in our favor. Because we can use it to force the mainstream media to pay attention.

by Anonymousreply 192February 12, 2019 2:38 PM

NBC News: After two years and 200 interviews, the Senate Intelligence Committee is approaching the end of its investigation into the 2016 election, having uncovered no direct evidence of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, according to both Democrats and Republicans on the committee.

But investigators disagree along party lines when it comes to the implications of a pattern of contacts they have documented between Trump associates and Russians — contacts that occurred before, during and after Russian intelligence operatives were seeking to help Trump by leaking hacked Democratic emails and attacking his opponent on social media.

"If we write a report based upon the facts that we have, then we don't have anything that would suggest there was collusion by the Trump campaign and Russia," said Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, the Republican chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. But, "We were never going find a contract signed in blood saying, 'Hey Vlad, we're going to collude," said one Democratic aide.

by Anonymousreply 193February 12, 2019 2:39 PM

Burr was on Trump's transition team. And all they are saying is the "what they have available to them" doesn't spell collusion. But we already know they don't have the complete picture. The entire hearings process in both houses under Republican leadership was flawed and we don't have the full picture. Some of it was deliberately withheld because it led directly to the Mueller investigation.

by Anonymousreply 194February 12, 2019 2:43 PM

Those that allow DJT to escape are also allowing Putty to escape. Basically, it is rewarding Putty to continue his tactics. The Deriposka vote suggest most Republican Senate and House members embrace it.

Let's not forget the white nationalist demonstrations in Charlottesville, Va. Cambridge Analytica helped to bring together like minded racists to organize these type of rallies to create and show visibility, strenght, and chaos. And guys like Bannon and the alt-right export that kind of hate all over the world right now with media outlets more than willing to give them further power through hate and fear mongering articles and reports trying to reach, find and recruit new members for their cause. In situations like these, we always have to ask ourselves where is the information coming from. In this case Republican Senators who have skin in the game. It's pretty evident that Russia funneled a boatload of money through the NRA directly to the republicans. They don't want you to see the collusion because their directly involved. They are not reliable narrators for this story. I tend to look at the IC community. They see the evidence. Also, the folks on Mueller team gave up lucrative careers in the private sector to work on this case. They didn't do that if there wasn't something major here. This is what keeps me sane when stuff like this floats.

Trump supporters should be put in camps.

by Anonymousreply 204February 12, 2019 4:18 PM

This is "rehabilitation Tuesday" for Trump in the MS/cable media. Every midweek, there is a day of positive news/coverage for Trump. Burr on the Senate Intel Committee declares they found no direct collusion. Trump will play that up big-time.

Trump's rally in El Paso has provided clips for the next 48 hours and beyond. El Chapo found guilty on all ten counts. Trump will further say, "we are getting more tough on the border with drugs coming in". Trump had nothing to do, though, with El Chapo getting captured and convicted.

On the proposed budget deal, he will claim he has the money to continue with "finishing" the wall. The media is rationalizing it.

The media is presenting Trump as taking the "moral high ground", when he is chiming in per attacking Congresswoman 0mar's criticism of AIPAC.

John King, Dana Bash, etc. you are making Trump's day.

by Anonymousreply 205February 12, 2019 5:09 PM

Question for R208. Michigan was one of those borderline states that was very close, often cited by those who believed an election fix was in. I'm curious on your take. How much support do you see for Trump in your location?

by Anonymousreply 211February 12, 2019 5:24 PM

I work in finance and people are bitching like crazy over the tax returns. Withmer needs to get her shit together and start following thru on promises and fix the damn roads. I don think Trump can win here again. I have never worked for a political party but I will be going door to door doing whatever I can to elect a prestigious is a dem in two years

I will never believe that Michigan ‘s vote was correct Snyder was a snake

by Anonymousreply 214February 12, 2019 5:44 PM

Not R208, but fellow Michigander here. I live in Ann Arbor, which is super liberal (went 68%-27% for Hillz in 2016) so obviously it's not representative of the entire state. There's hardly any public support of Trump here, even during the midterms, there wasn't a ton of visible GOP yard signs. I'm not sure exactly *how much* the support of Trump has decreased here in the past two years because no one wants to admit that they voted for him.

That being said, my family owns some property in West Michigan and when I visit the area once a month or so, it's like I've stepped into another world. Betsy DeVos and her family have a massive summer lake house there and IIRC she grew up there too. These smallish types of cities in West Michigan feel incredibly regressive and it really is the Bible Belt. A running joke in my family is that in West Michigan, there's literally a church on every single city corner. When I visited in October, there were so many Trump 2016 yard signs and I thought it was going to be incredibly red in the midterms. But, the rep for that area, Fred Upton, who has been in that seat since the mid 80's, barely won reelection with just over 50% of the vote. And Whitmer won with an easy 10 point margin. So I agree with R212, Michigan is slowly and quietly coming back to us. I don't see how Trump or any other GOP candidate can win in 2020 if nothing drastic changes. Fingers crossed.

Do the news organizations get some kind directive from up on high at the beginning of the day with instructions on how to soften their coverage or something? "Rehab Tuesday" really does seem like a thing.

The bar is set so low for Trump that if he's not crawling around in his own shit, he's deemed "presidential" and a "negotiator" from the brainless talking heads that have to fill 24 hours with regurgitated plot points.

by Anonymousreply 218February 12, 2019 6:17 PM

Trump will take credit for El Chapo conviction (stopping drugs at the border-but he had nothing to do with it). Take credit for getting border funding. Media covered DJT bashing Congresswoman Omar per AIPAC criticism and related. And the Burr announcement that the Senate Intel Committee found no direct evidence of collusion, will be used extensively by Trump to claim no collusion, witch hunt, etc.

He will NOT get re-elected. I know some people are side-eyeing, but it’s strangely consistent in these answers. I’ve been asking the same questions since I got it about a month ago. It keeps me from going down the concern-troll hole.

by Anonymousreply 237February 12, 2019 8:06 PM

[quote]These smallish types of cities in West Michigan feel incredibly regressive and it really is the Bible Belt.

Yeah, Hillary got twice as many votes as Trump in the city of Grand Rapids, the largest city in West Michigan. But the surrounding burbs and countryside went overwhelmingly for the orange one, giving him the slight edge in the countywide vote.

What I'm seeing now is a whiplash effect in Trump support here -- the same people will praise him one week and say he's terrible the next. That's a change from their earlier unquestioning support, but I wouldn't count on them voting against him in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 238February 12, 2019 8:11 PM

r237 I infrequently use a pendulum, I should practise to learn how to ask questions and develop my intuition. My use of it in 2018 to divine more exact answers from a seer's vision of "a coffin in the White House" worked. The answer was not a big surprise, wouldn't be to anybody really (not currently elected, natural death, last three months of 2018).

by Anonymousreply 239February 12, 2019 8:11 PM

The Senate intel did not say that evidence of collusion did not exist. They basically said they did nottake find direct evidence. It was undersigned in how it was reported.

Diane Feinstein is the ranking Democratic member on both the Senate Intel and Judiciary Committees. She has the seniority, but doesn't appear very aggressive nowadays. Maybe age and longevity in the Senate, and being eager to cooperate, are driving her approach. I'd prefer to see a more assertive and energetic Democrat dealing with Burr.

"I think it's a better understanding of what happened and [bold]how coordinated and organized the effort was.[/bold]"

He acknowledged that a core part of committee's charge is to tell the country, in the greatest detail possible, what happened in 2016.

[quote]"The other piece of that is probably [bold]work that the committee will do for the next decade.[/bold] And it's work that has helped even our intelligence community's understanding of Russia's capabilities and intent behind this."

by Anonymousreply 274February 13, 2019 7:53 AM

I don’t like Cory Booker either and hope he doesn’t become the Democratic nominee. There is something phony and inauthentic about him. He’s also rather annoying.

by Anonymousreply 275February 13, 2019 12:48 PM

Is Stormy Daniels and her attorney over for good? They seem to have gotten some fleeting fame and disappeared.

by Anonymousreply 277February 13, 2019 1:20 PM

Do we not like him because we watched him on Maddow or did we not watch MAddow because we already were predisposed not to like him?

I feel like he's a self appointed Goody Two Shoes who's set himself up as the hall monitor who insists we all "play nice, get along and work together..." even if the other kid is a piece of shit rat bastard.

by Anonymousreply 278February 13, 2019 1:21 PM

I think he did well on Maddow. Interesting that he and Maddow go way back. I still need to see him actually campaign and debate. I'm open to hearing his argument. I want to see how he deals with all the shit that comes with campaigning against Trump.

And lastnight he came off like a big old gurleen!

by Anonymousreply 279February 13, 2019 1:28 PM

On local news, saw Kirsten Gillibrand trying to eat fried chicken in South Carolina. That ole gurl just doesn't connect with the black folks, and white folks, down south.

by Anonymousreply 280February 13, 2019 2:38 PM

Kamala Harris, Corey Booker, and Joe Biden, can do well in a SC primary. Some of the others, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 281February 13, 2019 2:50 PM

Amy and Kamala will do much better than Kristen and Elizabeth. Joe will do best of all. Trump wants to run against Biden. He wants Warren or Gillebrand. He wants Booker. He does not want Amy or Kamala.

What's important to know is that There are only truly five announced/possible candidates so far that have a snowball's chance in hell. Castro, Gillebrand, and the rest have no chance. THey won't be able to raise the money and get organized. Harris, Warren (name recognition) Klobuchar, Booker and Biden if he runs, will be the top tier.

by Anonymousreply 282February 13, 2019 3:04 PM

I can't take Booker seriously since one bitch on this site referred to him as "Coretta." Which is just about perfect.

by Anonymousreply 283February 13, 2019 3:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 285February 13, 2019 3:15 PM

Honestly the thought of Kamala ripping Trump to shreds and digging a heel in for good measure makes me kind of erect

by Anonymousreply 286February 13, 2019 3:34 PM

I can remember Joe Biden running for President in 1988. Anyone who could mount a credible campaign for President over thirty years ago is too damned old to be running in 2020.

Can we get back to discussing the Mueller investigation here?

by Anonymousreply 290February 13, 2019 4:06 PM

I think there are two paths to victory for Democrats. It depends on how you want to win. Right now there is a lot of energy from women and minorities - people who have been disfranchised in the past. This wave drove the success the Democrats had in the mid-terms. If you want to capitalize on that base, then you nominate someone like Kamala Harris and Beto O'Rourke and try to grow the base with young people, people of color and suburban women. Joe Bidden does nothing to energize that base. He's another old, white man who has some issues with inappropriate touching. If you want to compete with Trump for middle America and the working white male, then you go with Joe and attach someone like Amy Klobushar as VP. Maybe your base will stay with you because they don't want Trump to win but there isn't much energy or growing of the party with that choice. I personally prefer new energy even though I am an old white man.

I watched the President’s event rally the other night where a BBC reporter was attacked. It reminded me of the attached. It is worth watching the short documentary to see so many similarities between now and 1939. It really made my blood run cold.

R302, "move it along, nothing to see here" is going to be all the info you ever get out of Mueller himself.

by Anonymousreply 304February 13, 2019 5:01 PM

Well here's the thing that the Trumpists and all his minions forget. All the shit Mueller has been digging up will all be organized and collated and accessible to members of the Senate Intel committee staff who conducted their own investigation. Pelosi and Schumer will see it. Feinstein will see it. And it will leak. Especially if it is suppressed.

The other thing to know is that no matter what the conclusions of the investigation are, they will be partial because this thing is so vast and far reaching, strands of it will continue for the foreseeable future. And finally, we live in a bubble. But we are foolish to believe we are isolated from the rest of the world. The international intelligence community will leak. Bigtime.

Putin and RUssia are hated. the Saudis are feared and hated. intrepid reporters and others will get the material we have been denied and they will publicize it. So Trump and those dumbasses in Congress are playing a fool's game. They operate as if it's 1970 and there is no internet and no cyber hacking. It will be impossible for the depths of their depravity and their treason to remain secret.

The Republicans will once again look like fools for their limited, foolish, stupid attempts, futile attempts to deny us. The world is watching. And they're waiting for Mueller along with the rest of us. So take heed, Mr. Barr and all those who serve this ratfucking pig.

by Anonymousreply 310February 13, 2019 5:52 PM

Between the Steel Dossier and the various leaks I believe the truth is already out. Trump and his team were working hand-in-hand with the Russians on several levels. Troll farms were employed to target people on Facebook with fake news. Cambridge Analyticia and the Russia Internet Agency were key here. This was also why Paul Manafort was providing polling data to the Russians. Also, Trump wanted Trump Tower Moscow built. He was working on that with the Russians during the campaign. The Russians hacked emails of Democratic Committee and state voting systems. They had the ability to alter voting registration. We know this from Senate IC which also says they didn't have the ability to affect totals but if they were wiping Democratic registrations, they were impacting totals. In exchange for this, Trump was to remove sanctions and alter policy on Ukraine. There is also dirt that Russia has on Trump - probably with underage girls. We know this from lawsuits that were filed and then withdrawn. Add large scale money laundering through real estate deals, Jared's secret deals with the Saudi's and pay-for-play inaugural committee and you have a corrupt and illegally elected President AND VICE PRESIDENT. We can also through in some illegal campaign financing with Cohen and the Playboy Bunny and stripper. I don't need to know much more.

The quid pro quo with Russia was much broader than a lot of people realize. This entire worldwide Extreme Right activism was instigated and powered by Putin. Starting with the conflict in the Middle East that brought boatloads of brown skinned and black skinned mostly muslim refugees crashing on to the shores of European countries, asylum seekers exploited and desperate, Putin's aim was to bring instability to Europe and to weaken the United States. He wants to destroy the EU and NATO.

Anything he can persuade Trump to do that weakens the US is a victory for him. He owns this President who admires strong men, and who is SO grateful he was elected President with a license to steal for his family, that he would lick the shit off Putin's ass. People like to think blackmail and coercion are the reason Trump is cowering before Putin, but IMO it is more likely gratitude.

I can hear Putin saying to him, that "We have helped you because you were always a friend to us, and now, we need your help. My country suffers from the United States policies and its lack of understanding or cooperation. I need to do what is best for my country and you can help me. It will be good for both our countries in the long run. The United States & Russia must have a better relationship gaining a better level of cooperation. You will be a historic President, so much smarter than Obama, blah blah blah. "

All Putin needed to do is flatter Trump, make Trump feel grateful, and ask for his help. Of course Putin's Oligarchs were still dangling business deals like carrots in Trump's face, even to the point that Putin is advising Trump on how to deal with other countries. Putin's axis of influence is helping Trump personally, even as he fucks this country over.

Putin has been playing him like a piano. The Iran Nuclear agreement, pulling us out of the Paris Accords, the TPP Partnership, and the recent Nuclear Non proliferation agreement with Russia, all these benefit Putin and isolate and weaken us. Tariffs, Trade wars, our farmers going bankrupt. The deliberate attempts to sow discord between us and our European allies, getting us to pull out of Syria, etc.

The deliberate, divisive, anti immigrant, fear-mongering, the promotion of race hatred, etc. here in the United States, all exploited to confuse, distract, and misdirect our attention. Flooding the NRA with money, so they can buy politicians, and block legislation to get reasonable gun safety regulations passed. All of this is what Putin and Russia specialize in.

They don't need to think of new stuff and "invade us." LOL! They learn about our own weaknesses and give them more oxygen and help exploit them. They take our crackpot conspiracy theorists and weaponize them, because they have the internet now, and it is so easy and so cheap. Other Presidents have been smart enough to be governed by intelligence service reports from our own people and our allies. Not Trump. There's a reason he mistrusts them, and Steve Bannon was right there whispering in his ear. This is only the first two years.

Mine too. I posted upthread about how the ugliness of the event came off the clip in waves. The BBC registered a formal complaint about the incident and received a bland bit of hypocritical piety back.

To add to the poster above who rightly advocated a show reel of how Trump's disgusting rhetoric enables - encourages - violence against the free press: show the repulsive recent incident and Trump's indifferent response; then cut to Trump's previous rally demonstration of how to do a body slam on a journalist.

Repeat this segment - then read out the WH 'response' to the BBC objection. No better example of disgusting shameless dangerous hypocrisy can be imagined.

He brings in ratings. That's the only thing that matters to them.

by Anonymousreply 330February 13, 2019 8:31 PM

Something must be up because the trolls are trying hard.

Remember what started this all? Not the dossier. Not disgruntled Democrats. Not a "deep state."

This all started because multiple of our Allies began reporting in 2016 that members of TRUMP'S CAMPAIGN TEAM were walking into surveillance nets around known Russian spies. Just let that sink in again, please.

The investigation is solid. It has attracted some top talent in espionage and money laundering. It has yielded results: guilty please, convictions and asset forfeitures. It is spreading to other countries, and spread into Trump's business affairs.

And Mueller still hasn't gone after the big dogs or those charged with conspiracy, obstruction and money laundering. But he and Comey have already told us (rational, thinking people) what they're really dealing with: the Mob. And they've let us know that the Mob has infiltrated the GOP. When they do move it will need to be accurate and fatal.

One of the first quotes that came out of the IC before Mueller put a lid on leaks was "He [Trump] will die in prison."

It is a troll's job, whether foreign or domestic, to wear down citizens' resistance, sow seeds of doubt and demoralization, and create enough chaos to make it harder to find and see truth. They'd love for us to be focused on whether or not Mueller will release a full report rather than discussing the fact that Donald Trump, U.S. President, has been named in court as a co-conspirator in federal crimes just since running for office. There is much, much more to come.

Love you guys and gals. These threads go all kinds of batty in between Mueller-related news, and lots of troll bullshit can fill the void. Trump's psy-ops bullshit will fill the void and corporate media will allow it for ratings. But believe in the truth of what you have seen with your own eyes and heard with your own ears. Oh, and spend as much energy as you can muster getting Democrats positioned and elected in 2020.

Graham, Barr, etc. head important committees in the Senate to investigate this scandal. They will stall, deflect, and prematurely claim evidence doesn't exist when it comes to Trump and his inner circle. They can only do so much of this until the protective parameters of their efforts get broken and fresh evidence pours in on top of what is already known.

I expect the Mueller report will not be a whitewash. A.G. Barr will be watched, and if he prematurely shuts down the investigation and/or alters the report, that will get exposed quickly. Trump is one thing with his political partisans and base to deal with; but the intelligence community and investigators are not going to let Vladimir Putin get away with this. If the report is not hard-hitting on Putin and his operatives, AND the Americans who cooperated and benefited from this set-up, it will have horrible consequences for the U.S. long-term if they are not extensively exposed and face repercussions..

by Anonymousreply 334February 13, 2019 9:35 PM

If Trump and Co are innocent, why did Jared want a secure line to Putin right after the election? He wanted to use the Russian embassy's secure line to communicate directly with Putin. This was so the US intel community couldn't listen in. Innocent people don't do that.

You know Trump really must believe in his bones, it must be hardwired into his enormous ego that he is truly above the Law and cannot be touched.

If Barr refuses to recuse himself, if he refuses to release the Mueller report, that will guarantee the Democrats taking the Senate and impeachment will happen. Guaranteed. They will haul Barr to court and he will be forced to resign for violating the regulations and the laws governing all lawyers.

I've said it before, but there is an outside chance Trump might get re elected. If that happens he will be out of office by the end of 2021, at the latest, but probably sooner, because he will definitely be impeached. Guaranteed.

So even though things seem to be moving slowly, and I keep hoping we can get rid of him sooner, in my bones I know he will be gone for good not later than 2021, 6-8 months after he starts a second term. But I don't think it's going to take that long.

Whitaker is a bulky dumbfuk. Telling Nadler his five minutes are up, blue other arrogant shit, won't bode well for him. Even some Republicans on the committee, though they won't admit it in public, were put off by his obnoxious demeanor.

by Anonymousreply 369February 14, 2019 1:51 AM

plus, not blue^

by Anonymousreply 370February 14, 2019 1:52 AM

If he lied (and we know he did), what actual punitive actions can the House take against Whitaker?

by Anonymousreply 371February 14, 2019 1:54 AM

After reading Fear, by Bob Woodward I discovered that Don McGahn who was the guy who gave us Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. He was and is a monster. A mean tough vicious bastard and an ultra Conservative.

by Anonymousreply 372February 14, 2019 1:54 AM

he can be cited for contempt of Congress and perjury and both of those are crimes.

by Anonymousreply 373February 14, 2019 1:55 AM

For Christ sake, every fat dude does not have bad genes. Frankly the guy seems healthy to me.

by Anonymousreply 374February 14, 2019 1:59 AM

Yes, McGhan is a horror show who has hurt America and will probably continue to do so.

by Anonymousreply 375February 14, 2019 2:02 AM

OK. So Manafort lied about Klimick the Russian, because he was afraid if he told the truth, the information would be so bad for Trump that Manafort would never get a pardon.

by Anonymousreply 376February 14, 2019 2:06 AM

People worry about Manafort's health, but if I was Gates, his former partner and now a very cooperating witness, that's who I'd worry about. He is telling them everything.

by Anonymousreply 377February 14, 2019 2:13 AM

R373, if Whitaker is cited for contempt of Congress and perjury, what penalty would he suffer? I mean, what power does Congress have to do anything about it?

by Anonymousreply 378February 14, 2019 2:16 AM

R378, he would be facing criminal charges. It’s not something Congress would do anything about—it would be up to the Justice Department. Just like Cohen was charged by Mueller for lying to Congress.

by Anonymousreply 379February 14, 2019 2:18 AM

I don't like Swallwell. His head is too big, and his lips are unattractive. He seems like he'd drool on the pillow. And he talks about how powerful the Dems are now and how they won't put up with stuff and really, it's the House. Yes they have power. But so does the Senate. So I don't know WTF he thinks they can do. I mean I know they can do more than with Paul Ryan, but they can't solve everything on their own. The Department of Homeland Security has just downsized the two teams that were working on cyber security and election/ballot security. If the House appropriates money there is nothing that compels a department to spend it. So even if the House specifically said we are giving you fuding that can only be used for cyber security, the DHS would sit on it.

by Anonymousreply 380February 14, 2019 2:19 AM

Whitaker is just another lousy grifter (just like Trump) he should go to prison for a couple of years. Manaford should go for life.

by Anonymousreply 381February 14, 2019 2:21 AM

Gutting the team that prevents foreign interference in our elections is both the scariest and most obvious thing he has done yet

by Anonymousreply 382February 14, 2019 2:24 AM

Pence and his pious face is as crooked as a dogs hind leg.

by Anonymousreply 383February 14, 2019 2:27 AM

I wish Nunes and McConnell would be indicted first but I would be very happy to see Junior and Jared picked up.

by Anonymousreply 384February 14, 2019 2:33 AM

r380, Swalwell looks like a grown up Boy Scout.

LOVE HIM and his political positions.

by Anonymousreply 385February 14, 2019 2:35 AM

I saw a post on facebook from a Dem teacher in a very red area of a very red state. She said the teachers were going on and on about how bad the students have been the "last few years" being very disrespectful and hateful to each other. She said, "well, I think it is our politics" to which they went nuts on her, according to her. She rarely talks politics so I believe her. She said they said it was all the Dems fault, the Dems started this and it isn't HIS fault he has to talk the way he does with the media and Hollywood trying to take him down. She said typical conservative snowflakes who, if this were a conversation during a Hillary presidency, they would blame her. She said she has noticed a change in the students as well and it is absolutely because of Pres Bone Spurs.

r384 I think I want Ivanka to go first. Want to see DJT really go batshit crazy ..

by Anonymousreply 387February 14, 2019 2:39 AM

I honestly dont think Barr is willing to risk his reputation by protecting Trump in any way. Hes a prior AG...and there is no way he would be willing to risk charges of obstruction himself and ruining his legacy. I think it could be different if he were suddenly thrust into the position, but not knowingly walking into it.

by Anonymousreply 388February 14, 2019 3:25 AM

Mueller's former deputy John Pistole was just on CNN. He also seems like a very normal, matter-of-fact guy. Really, just about everyone I've listened to in interviews who has worked with Mueller only has good things to say about him. They all say he's honest, by-the-book and no-nonsense, the complete opposite of the picture Trump, his goons, repubs and right wing media are trying to present him as.

by Anonymousreply 389February 14, 2019 3:37 AM

I have sometimes wondered if Barr was just pretending to be anti-Mueller probe so that Trump would give him the job, and now that he’s (almost) in, he’ll do the right thing. Sort of playing both good cop and bad cop, in that order.

But I’m not sure if that theory squares with other things he’s said and done.

Anyone else have any theories about that? I know several prosecutors who know him have said he’s a strict institutionalist and blah blah blah, what r388 said, and I want to believe that’s true.

One thing is for sure: if he doesn’t release the report, as unredacted as possible, it WILL fucking leak.

by Anonymousreply 390February 14, 2019 3:39 AM

r390 I've wondered that too, about whether several people are playing the "game" knowing he is bad for the country or better yet, a down right threat. Wishful thinking or so crazy it might be true?

by Anonymousreply 391February 14, 2019 3:44 AM

r388, William Barr had sent the Department of Justice an unsolicited 20-page memo arguing against prosecuting Trump for obstruction of justice. What it actually was, was the Barr Loyalty Oath right out in public.

Barr gave a second party loyalty oath.

Trump needed nothing more.

by Anonymousreply 392February 14, 2019 3:46 AM

I remember that well, r392, I’m just wondering if that was his “good cop” routine so he could get Trump to trust him. Then he gets in there and upholds the goddamn rule of law.

Is it possible?

Cynthia Alksne says he’s a by-the-book institutionalist, like Mueller basically. But I might be forgetting something—some decision or argument he made that renders my fantasy D.O.A.

by Anonymousreply 393February 14, 2019 3:51 AM

I don't think Manafort is getting a pardon.

by Anonymousreply 394February 14, 2019 4:22 AM

What I haven't seen spelled out about the judge revoking Manafort's plea agreement for lying to Mueller and the grand jury, is that it means the judge has been shown evidence that directly shows exactly what Manafort was lying about by Mueller's team. It means they have concrete evidence of the things Manafort was lying about and we know he was lying to cover for Trump.

by Anonymousreply 395February 14, 2019 6:12 AM

Will Ivanka at least be allowed conjugal visits after she goes to prison?

by Anonymousreply 396February 14, 2019 8:08 AM

I’ve wondered if Mueller and his team were given a FBI criminal profile on Trump, the breakdown of his psychology. Similar of what they do for serial killler cases.

by Anonymousreply 397February 14, 2019 8:36 AM

R397 They better. To deal with this pathological liar, you need to anticipate and preemptively block all his tricks.

by Anonymousreply 398February 14, 2019 8:42 AM

Didn't Trump's own lawyers tell Mueller that Trump was a pathological liar? They tried to do a practice deposition with Trump and he was incapable of telling the truth, or something like that?

by Anonymousreply 399February 14, 2019 11:41 AM

Barr is there to protect the tentacles of this mess, the McTurtles the Miss Lindsies, etc. that took PAC money from the Putie oligarchs. Toss in the NRA with the lot. Barr will keep the remaining investigation within parameters and protect the characters not directly involved in the 2016 campaign-related, Russher-DJT dialogue and transactions. He may not go out of his way to deter Spurs and his inner circle from being exposed with more indictments to come.

Barr is a GOP party loyalist aligned with their interests. Privately, he may be disgusted with DJT's behavior.

Former FBI Acting Director Says DOJ Held Meetings On Removing Trump Via 25th Amendment

Soon after speaking to President Trump about the firing of his boss James Comey, Andrew McCabe, who became the bureau’s acting director, began obstruction of justice and counterintelligence investigations involving the president and his ties to Russia. In his first television interview since his own firing, McCabe tells 60 Minutes‘ Scott Pelley he wanted those inquiries to be documented and underway so they would be difficult to quash without raising scrutiny.

“There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment,” Pelley said on the show. “These were the eight days from Comey’s firing to the point that Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel. And the highest levels of American law enforcement were trying to figure out what do with the president.”

Do not operate under any illusions about Barr. This man had a very successful private practice. He He had a decent reputation. So why would he ,at his age, decided to jump back into the fray?? Something stinks to high heaven. He did in fact not only draft a 20 page memo defending the "tradition of the DoJ " about not indicting a sitting POTUS, but he also interviewed to be Trump's personal attorney as part of his legal team, but Barr turned it down.

He has a child, a daughter or a son and their spouse both working at the DoJ. Insiders. So he is aware of the three ring circus. I believe, and I could be wrong about this, but I think Barr, like Kavanaugh has ties to the Bushes. I think W. Might be wrong on that. Barr is there to protect Trump. Period. He will follow the letter, but not the spirit of the Law and will cite language and custom to justify his actions.

I'm fucking sick of the bar being set so low that anyone who appears rational and speaks in complete sentences is now considered a "good guy" candidate for Attorney General of the United State. And I would definitely like to find out why Barr decided to do this. Because believe me, there's a reason. It's just like how at first we thought Justice Kennedy was deciding to retire at 84 so the GOP could get another judge appointed....then we find out about Kennedy's son, Deutsche Bank, Trump's loans, and the close ties to the Trump family at a time Deutsche Bank is being raided or investigated or WTF ever. So I want much more clarity about Barr's motives and his financial ties, and his family's ties. Nothing is ever the way it first seems with this administration.

[quote]Burr on the Senate Intel Committee declares they found no direct collusion. Trump will play that up big-time.

Republican Never-Trumper Tom Nichols:

What did the President know, and when did know it.” Collusion (cooperation, conspiracy?) with the campaign is already proved and done, imo. All that’s left is how much a notorious control freak knew about it.

At best, his defense can only be that he was too stupid to know what his own family and campaign were doing. But Burr’s “no collusion with the campaign” is laughable.

by Anonymousreply 404February 14, 2019 12:46 PM

R404 he said "no direct evidence" but that is horseshit because as my favorite Legal pundit Charles Rosenberg explained very carefully the preponderance of evidence we get 90% of the time at trial is circumstantial evidence and it is valid. So Burr was playing games and it makes me wonder if he was pressured by Trump to say that because Trump needs to keep his base. After all the polls that were just released indicate the American people trust Mueller more than Trump. So the timing of Burr's comments may be a reaction to that. So a carefully worded statement by Burr with the semantic "direct evidence" is Trump's springboard to regain some standing. But as 90% of the comments on TV confirm, The Senate Intel committee doesn't have as much as Mueller has, and they are also far from finished with their witnesses. Out of necessity there was some evidence withheld from the committee so that they would not jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation. Look. The only reason Trump is hanging on to his job right now is because he has to hand out family pardons. LOL! He also has been told that he can't fire Mueller and end the investigation or he will trigger impeachment. Of course he also knows that even if he did fire Mueller the FBI investigation will not stop. He thinks Barr will make it stop, but not at this point. Plus there is absolutely a solid reason that Barr will be forced to recuse himself or be in violation of the law and could face disbarment.

by Anonymousreply 406February 14, 2019 1:13 PM

NPR reported this morning that Manafort is just a shadow, a gray and aged shell, of his former self. He even needs a wheelchair, or "sticks" to move. Mueller's witch hunt has DESTROYED this family! And broken this man!!

by Anonymousreply 407February 14, 2019 1:24 PM

So apparently in the latest proposal to stop the shut down, Republicans removed a Democrat inclusion to give back pay to contractors who weren't paid during the shutdown.... how do Deplorables justify Republicans not giving them their money?

by Anonymousreply 408February 14, 2019 1:25 PM

Yeah, well, I think the wheelchair and the sticks to walk are bullshit. I think he is stressing out and filled with fear. It's psychosomatic. Doesn't mean it isn't real, just citing what I think the cause is. He was strutting around just fine a year or two ago. Maybe the cumulative effect of all the shit he is facing because of his own actions, is hitting him hard. Stress is like that.Paulie had too many balls in the air. But things will get simpler for him real soon. Once he is sentenced and reports in, he will be fine. A roof over his head, three meals a day, and possibly TV and movies once in a while. He'll get exercise, and won't even have to worry about his wardrobe. Regular haircuts. Don't know if they're willing to dye his hair, but hey, going natural may be a fresh new look. OTOH, maybe he's wearing a toupee?

Trump isn't going to pardon Manafort, 1.) because he will not be around long enough to do it, and 2.) If he pardoned him, he would look guilty. He's just stringing him along so that he keeps his mouth shut

by Anonymousreply 414February 14, 2019 2:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 415February 14, 2019 2:22 PM

r408...and the best part is that Trump publicly stated a few weeks ago that he would make sure everyone would receive their back pay....they should be playing that clip on a loop.

Miss Lindsey is at it again....claiming Meuller needs to complete his work....and that since its being ignored, HE will investigate all the FISA abuses, etc.....we have our new Benghazi.

by Anonymousreply 417February 14, 2019 2:29 PM

Trump consistently stiffed his own contracted workers for decades. Now all of sudden these Deplorable idiots thought he was going to fight for their back pay? I just don’t get it with these people. They are completely brainwashed, seduced by a flimflam man with hair the color of a dehydrated person’s urine.

by Anonymousreply 421February 14, 2019 2:43 PM

Look, stiffing federal contractors on a grand scale is a real bad idea and a terrible policy. Because a lot of those people are people who have ties to Members of Congress or political clout. You don't just get a contract because you're the best candidate for the job. There's a lot of politics involved. Secondly, you will need contractors. Always. The federal government has been cutting back, laying people off, permanently, eliminating jobs, then hiring contractors to work for less. There will never be a time when they will not need and depend on Contractors. And if you're a contractor and you know they don't pay their bills, you will not go to work for them. At least the best ones won't. But if you're not the greatest, you might take the gamble because hey, you're not exactly raising hell. But this has disaster spelled all over it. Not paying their contractors is going to have long term consequences. This is not Queens, and we're not talking about Joe, the plumber. A lot of MAGAs are contract workers. Wonder how they feel about this.

by Anonymousreply 422February 14, 2019 2:46 PM

The Senate will vote to approve Barr as AG today.

He's going to "edit" the Mueller report so we don't see the most damning parts.

R425 I think that is good. I'd LOVE to see the IC explaining their justifications for FISA warrants. But Graham is performing theater for the know-nothings. He needs these confusing headlines more than he needs IC patriots explaining the details that led to the granting of these FISA warrants. It will surprise me if he actually follows through.

Thinking people realize the steps and scrutiny required for FISA warrants, and that they aren't just handed out for political vendettas.

This is performance art designed to get headlines and the phrase "bias against President Trump" in front of people's eyeballs.

by Anonymousreply 427February 14, 2019 3:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 428February 14, 2019 3:26 PM

R425, Graham is fool. The last thing Senate Republicans want is McCabe explaining why people have seriously considered invoking the 25th Amendment.

As for Trump's polling "surge," he's just back to where he always is (41.5% approval), and this number presumably does not take into account his most recent failure to get funding for the Wall.

by Anonymousreply 436February 14, 2019 3:44 PM

Here's something to consider. I Remember years ago, reading about LBJ and the formation of the Warren Commission to investigate the assassination of JFK. For years after the formal release of the report, no one believed it and authors historians and journalists file FOIA requests and lawsuits to get the full testimony and transcripts of all the principals involved in those hearings. Much later on, we had the White House tapes. LBJ tapes. His voice weedle and cajole Senators, and officials, persuading them to be on the commission. His conversation with J. Edgar Hoover insuring the investigation would go in the direction they needed it to go, because they "didn't want to start WW III," etc.etc. OK. What's my point?

All of us already know a lot about what Mueller's investigating. We know for a fact, a lot more about Trump and his cohorts and all the dirty dealing and conflicts of interest, treason, etc right now, than anyone ever connected to the JFK assassination knew or even what we know now about JFK.

It is very possible, that some of what Mueller has discovered will definitely be redacted. "Edited." They will very likely cite National Security issues to do that. IMO the only justification for redactions would be if they have spies in play, sensitive intelligence operations ongoing, or methods of surveillance, etc. that would be exposed and/or endangered by revealing the information. That would be a legitimate concern.

But for me, it would take a level of trust I do not currently have, to accept any kind of redactions for any excuse. Now, if Pelosi, or Obama, or someone like that told me the redactions were applied legitimately, I might back off. But not really. And if the records are sealed, then put a timeline on them. Say they're being sealed for the next 25-50 years. That way Putin and Trump will be dead. and so will most of the active players.

But on a more positive note, we already have court filings and sentencing documents, charges indictments, etc that are actually the details of the Mueller report. It wouldn't take that much effort to collate those findings, and figure out everything. To their credit, the media has been doing a really good job so far of analyzing and connecting the dots, and there are a shitload of dots to connect.

LBJ claimed he was worried about starting a war, but I think we are worried about losing face. We are worried about weakening our hand by exposing too many cards. So we will see how this plays out. My main point being that we are considering the political evil we have experienced, but there are greater evils out here and the DoJ and even Congress may agree to withhold sensitive information.

by Anonymousreply 437February 14, 2019 3:48 PM

“So we will see how this plays out. My main point being that we are considering the political evil we have experienced, but there are greater evils out here ”

What exactly do you mean by this, R437? Do you buy the con that Trump and Putin are somehow “protecting” us? Do you not see that Putin is intent on dismantling NATO, the United Nations, the U.S. and the EC? Do you think tearing up nuclear treaties is making us “safer”? Do you think Russia invading sovereign Baltic and former Soviet nations is “stabilizing” us? Do you think allying ourselves with murderous oligarchic regimes such as Russia, Turkey, North Korea and Saudi Arabia promotes democracy?

HOW IS POLITICAL EVIL NOT REAL EVIL WITH REAL-LIFE CONSEQUENCES?

by Anonymousreply 438February 14, 2019 4:00 PM

R436, Manafort is losing his plea deal because of crimes he committed and lies he told related to an undisclosed ongoing investigation, "that is at the very core of the Mueller investigation." . Specifically that he met with a Russian Intelligence guy and shared polling data and other campaign information. Now if they busted him for lying about that, and they cite an ongoing investigation, where I grew up, 2+2 still = 4.

by Anonymousreply 439February 14, 2019 4:00 PM

R438, calm the fuck down and try to read with understanding. What I meant was that we here are preoccupied with the politics of Barr or someone else attempting to block disclosure for their own political reasons, in a short term immediate sense, but the larger evil out here, IS Putin, Russia, the Saudis, China, North Korea, Iran, etc.etc.etc. and from an international perspective there are somethings that Mueller knows that we may not want the rest of that larger evil world to know we know.

by Anonymousreply 440February 14, 2019 4:04 PM

It's so wild, just read DOJ wanted to remove orange turd using 25th Amendment. That would have been so wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 441February 14, 2019 4:07 PM

Of course I don't "buy the con that Trump and Putin are protecting us!!!" WTF. How in fuck did you leap to that inference from what I wrote. I think Trump and Putin are heinous evil rat fucking pieces of shit and I believe Trump along with a number of others including members of Congress are guilty of treason and corruption and we need to root them out and bury their asses under the prison. So we agree on that. I was merely offering some theories on why the DoJ may decide to redact portions of the report.

by Anonymousreply 442February 14, 2019 4:07 PM

oh did you read that massive Equifax hack of millions of info in 2017?...that was done by a foreign country. Coz none of the info was sold on the black market. Hackers wanted info on govt officials, high profiled people etc. Probably Putin or Chinese cunts.

Manafort only looks bad because he doesnt have access to his "meds" to keep his ailments in check, no posh salons for grooming, etc.....he is not being coddled in jail. He will only receive medication for serious ailments, not upper, downers, oxy, etc or whatever he takes. The same will happen to Trump one day....and I cant wait to see it.

by Anonymousreply 451February 14, 2019 4:59 PM

"NPR reported this morning that Manafort is just a shadow, a gray and aged shell, of his former self. He even needs a wheelchair, or "sticks" to move. Mueller's witch hunt has DESTROYED this family! And broken this man!!

No one seems to have mentioned the obvious so I will... This concerns me because it's these reports that Trump will use as his excuse for pardoning Manafort.

by Anonymousreply 452February 14, 2019 5:03 PM

ITA, r448.

Paulie don't realize that he's yesterday's news as far as fat Donnie is concerned.

That greedy fool has backed himself into a corner. He rats on the dotard and he gets some polonium tea. He keeps he pie hole shut and he rots in the big house.

Yulia is laughing at him. And he deserves every bit of scorn coming his way.

by Anonymousreply 453February 14, 2019 5:06 PM

On the other hand, I kind of hope that Trump DOES pardon Manafort..... Why?

Imagine the uproar. There will be mass protesting in the streets. Assuming Trump is still POTUS, it might be exactly what's needed to get him the fuck outta there, and lead to a number of laws being changed, (the ability for Presidents to pardon, for example).

Manafort will be dead soon. I don't mind his getting away with his crimes if it eventually leads to the punishment of many others' deserving who might not otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 454February 14, 2019 5:08 PM

R448, yes his counsel did have a cooperation agreement with Trump's counsel. PAst tense. Once Manafort agreed to cooperate, his agreements with other counsel were over. It was discussed at length on TV last year when it happened and legally you cannot cooperate once you plead guilty,AND enter into a plea agreement with the Prosecutor. Especially since your plea agreement may include providing information on other defendants. He is bending over backwards and he has been ever since he was arrested, to show Trump he's a stand up guy who will not rat out Trump. But I believe that's in the wind now.

by Anonymousreply 455February 14, 2019 5:19 PM

All I ask for is one photo of Trump in jail without the hair dye and bronzer. It will be his Lex Luthor moment.

by Anonymousreply 456February 14, 2019 5:20 PM

R455 here. The language of his plea agreement stated that he had to cooperate FULLY with the Special Prosecutor on all matters...pertaining to the investigation. So he could no longer cooperate with anyone and his lawyers knew that. It seems like to me his lawyers don't know the law.

Let them play games. Let them cut funds for cyber security and securing our elections. Let them suppress Mueller's report, and keep propping Trump up. The 2020 election is going to be such a blow out, the Dems will take both houses and the Presidency. Trump is a fool. He ought to be cutting a deal right now to exit and let Pence pardon him. Their spin machine is working overtime with bullshit from the evangelicals who claim God wants Trump to be PResident. LOL! Then he scams them on taxes and manages to fake a victory on the budget when he gets less than he originally was offered And none of that is going to help him. Because if he survives this and hides behind the PResidency and thinks he is dodging impeachment he is wrong. He will be out by 2021 at the latest. And he will have to deal with all the State charges after that with no shield. Nada.. He has made so many enemies around the world. He is hated. Karma is going to get him.

News: McConnell on the Senate floor right now: he says Trump told him he is signing the bill and he’s going to declare a national emergency at the same time. McConnell says he supports the declaration of a national emergency.

His campaign stops are just a bunch of lowlife Nazis, nothing more.

by Anonymousreply 471February 14, 2019 7:29 PM

What I love about this is that The Dems are going to take him to court immediately and hem him up, because there is no emergency. Trump thinks a Republican appointed judge will just rubber stamp his political games? An emergency is not a gimmick to circumvent the budget process. he will never get his hands on that fucking money.

By the way, Attorney General Barr's son -in-law works in the office of the White House Counsel. The one vacated by Don McGahn, who was a vicious piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 472February 14, 2019 7:30 PM

So this was obviously Drumpf's and the Rethugs plan all along and now he gets to gloat feeling like he pulled one over on Dems.

It still has to go through the courts though, right?

by Anonymousreply 473February 14, 2019 7:31 PM

It’s win-win for him. He knows it won’t get past the courts, but then he gets to blame it on "liberal activist judges" even if it’s his own appointees that block it. His mouth breathing base will eat that up with a spoon. Assholes.

Tempers apparently running hot on the Senate floor, according to Politico's Jake Sherman:

McConnell interrupted (fellow Republican) grassley speech to announce the vote and national emergency. Grassley just SCREAMED at McConnell: “you’re rude. You’re just simply rude.” Said it would’ve taken 5 minutes for him to finish.

by Anonymousreply 478February 14, 2019 7:36 PM

He will face a court challenge almost immediately , R473. A POTUS doesn't have to go through the courts, he just has to declare an emergency. But IMO I always thought he needed a request for a declaration. So the border states would have to support it. The fact that two states have already pulled their national guard troops out of their border assignment tells me he is not going to get away with this. Of course Texas will stick with him, but I have to wonder if Arizona will. The otherw thing we have to ask ourselves is where is the money coming from? Those troops at the border are expensive.

Two teams of federal officials assembled to fight foreign election interference are being dramatically downsized, according to three current and former Department of Homeland Security officials. And now, those sources say they fear the department won’t prepare adequately for election threats in 2020.

“The Trump administration intelligence chiefs in their worldwide threat assessment clearly stated that the use of influence operations from countries like Russia, China and Iran poses a significant threat to the country,” said John Cohen, the former deputy undersecretary for intelligence and analysis at DHS. “If these reports are true, it’s highly disturbing that the department and the administration are not more focused on dealing with that threat.”

by Anonymousreply 481February 14, 2019 7:54 PM

They're so desperate for a unitary executive. They're going to get it and we'll see who really gets to take advantage of it. Maybe we'll overturn any pardons Cheeto or eventually Ms. Pence grants this year or next year — because of an emergency...

by Anonymousreply 483February 14, 2019 7:59 PM

Yes R483. I have often wished, out loud, that violent, deadly things would happen to McConnell and others. Mitch is seriously the single worst human to affect the American political process in a very long time.

I’m not worried about this national emergency thing, though. It shows Trump failed. Ann Coulter is right. And he will be challenged in courts. He will not get his wall. The next Democratic administration would tear it down anyway. He’s just doing this to sew up support from his base because impeachment is coming. Gotta keep those approval #s up.

[quote]On the same day that Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) officially joined the Trump campaign as a senior national security advisor, the U.S. intelligence community released a statement that the Kremlin was trying to interfere in the election. But the Senator already knew those facts, and much more. Burr had been fully briefed in secret by the U.S. intelligence community a few weeks earlier. Senior U.S. officials told Burr that Russia’s interference was designed to support Donald Trump’s electoral chances. Burr decided to team up with the Trump campaign anyway, and hitch his own electoral fate in North Carolina to Trump’s political fortunes.

Let's chat about Pence. If for some reason Trump is forced to resign because of the campaign's relationship with Russia, Pence can't succeed him to the presidency. The campaign was Trump/Pence. As much as Pence wants to distance himself from the "Trump Investigation" it really is the Trump/Pence investigation because they were a team. They were "elected" as a team using the same campaign. Pence has been actively involved from July 2018. He is just as guilty as Trump. Let's also not forget that Manafort installed Pence. It is interesting to note that Pence's older brother is an executive for a company that builds engines for the Russian military. Way too many connects to Russia for there not to be a connection.

Im unfortunately stuck in a room where Fox News is on. So basically --- if a President wants to become a Dictator - no one should stop them.

by Anonymousreply 510February 15, 2019 12:19 AM

Um..... I think Hannity just basically said:

"So what, who cares what I talk about? I can talk about wanting to kill my wife - that doesn't make it a crime. It's not a crime if I talk about how I want to do it. There's no crime if I don't kill her."

[quote] re: FDR - R99: Agree with you on that, [R94]. Also, FDR tried to add unilaterally new seats on the Supreme Court that favored his agenda...Didn't most New Deal program proposals go through Congress? Congress appropriates the funding. Not much could get funding through decree.

FDR didn’t try to [italic] unilaterally [/italic] add SCOTUS seats - that’s why he wasn’t successful. He overreached, and lost. It was a bold, Constitutional, proposed change. A President could do so today (Don’t tell Trump about it!)

FDR had one of the busiest “first 100 days” in response to the depression. It’s the example that all other Presidents are measured against, and they always fall short. FDR actually had a true economic emergency, though we didn’t have a system for dealing with “emergencies” then. He proposed, and Congress passed many programs, that were later challenged and struck down by the courts. Nothing unusual about that. (This was why he then proposed enlarging the SCOTUS, to stop them from striking down his laws.)

Eventually he found alternate ways to enact jobs programs that were not struck down, plus time passed and things changed.

If he gets away with this he will do worse and no, our day will not come. We need to be pushing back and honestly, I want to kick McConnell's ass so bad right now. Evil little fucker. What we have seen, going all the way back four years now, since he first started campaigning, is that everything he gets away with, he will try to go even further. He never apologizes. Regards apologies as a sign of weakness. He will say terrible things, brag about doing terrible things, and he will push the boundaries even further every time. And the pundits and members of Congress always say, well, if he ever does so-and-so, we'll stop him. When? When will he actually "Go too far?"

We ought to have a thread for McCabe. He got shit on and it was terrible. And no one stopped Trump. Don't be shocked to discover that other top people in other countries are compromised and a re agents or assets of Russia. Putin has been doing this all over Europe. Ever since he discovered the potential of the internet and social media he has been much more effective at getting his infiltrators in place. All this rioting going on in France? Those Far Right protesters? His fingerprints are all over that.

It was much harder, took longer, to recruit and compromise foreign actors in the past. Today, there are a lot more rubles. Putin is a true gangster. He believes everyone has their price everyone is for sale. What i scary is that what is happening in the United States is not happening in isolation. It is happening all over the world. And Trump is a very willing participant.

No member of Congress ought to be able to go to the store, to a restaurant, to church, to a movie, WTF ever without hearing from us. We need to call and visit their local offices. by Anonymousreply 547February 15, 2019 11:12 AM

IT'S. TOO. LATE, Schlapp.

by Anonymousreply 548February 15, 2019 12:59 PM

Barr has had a long career working in the judiciary. Hopefully he has more respect for the integrity of the judicial process (or at least its ideal) to not mess with it. I don't think that he took the position just to fire Mueller. If that was the goal I would think that Whitaker would have gone ahead and done it a lot sooner.

by Anonymousreply 549February 15, 2019 1:12 PM

R414, my speculation is that Trump won't pardon Manafort because that might be unnecessary. I imagine there are other FSB/GRU factors that keep Manafort in line.

by Anonymousreply 550February 15, 2019 1:20 PM

Will no one rid us of this meddlesome beast?

by Anonymousreply 551February 15, 2019 1:41 PM

R551 are you referring to Shuskabee? Smellyanne? McTurtle?

There are too many beasts... you must be specific!

by Anonymousreply 552February 15, 2019 2:03 PM

So, apparently, he's about to officially declare the national emergency to build his wall.

Some good news: Justice Ginsburg is at the Supreme Court today and will take part in the justices' private conference, court says.

by Anonymousreply 554February 15, 2019 2:19 PM

I bet Putin tells Trump, "I'm watching things very closely. If you need my advice I will always try to help you, but you must not let them push you around. Be strong." Now obviously Trump has a thing about "being strong" . I'm just speculating of course. But Trump is so obvious it's easy to manipulate him.

by Anonymousreply 555February 15, 2019 2:23 PM

The problem is that Rethugs don't care what Dems "might be able to do..."

Because 1) they believe Dems are just spineless and will always do the right thing anyway and 2) They're so confident in their cheating they figure they'll prevent a Dem President by cheating like they always do.

by Anonymousreply 558February 15, 2019 2:31 PM

Per Trump's schedule for today, per WH:

10 a.m. today: President Trump will declare a National Emergency at the border.

4:20 p.m. today: In light of these grave circumstances, President Trump will depart for Palm Beach, Florida, where he will spend the weekend golfing at his private beach resort, Mar-a-Lago.

Trump's been planning this as an alternative every since he realized he would lose the House and that loss was a repudiation of him personally, especially given how hard he campaigned in 2018. When he realized he would lose the House and very likely have to deal with Pelosi (who he tried very hard to block through disruptions his people stirred up against her becoming Speaker.) he was looking at calling a national emergency in order to bypass Congress, specifically the the House which approves budgets and appropriate funds. He even sent Troops there last year in November/December to give justification.

Also according to McCabe:

In one particularly shocking exchange, Sessions reportedly told McCabe the FBI was a better organization when “you all only hired Irishmen.” Drawing on archaic and offensive stereotypes, he clarified, “They were drunks but they could be trusted. Not like all those new people with nose rings and tattoos — who knows what they’re doing?”

The Senate GOP Caucus is wrong. The court may very well uphold him and they know it. They nominated and approved Kavanaugh and Kavanaugh believes in a strong, expanded Executive, the whole "unitary Executive" concept. So the only way he can be stopped is if both Houses of Congress vote to block him, right now. YOu need a two thirds majority. He gets every Democrat (except Manchin,) nd how many Republican Senators would we need to override him? The Senate needs to send him a message on this. It's a blatant attempt to seize power and bypass Congress. Right in their faces. The message ought to be clear. "If we can stop you on this, we also have enough votes to impeach you, so be damned careful. The fact is all the ducks are lined up. Trump doesn't necessarily think of these things on his own. He is not organized. But the firewalls to protect him are being built and someone is orchestrating all of it. Right here. Not Putin, but someone.

The Democrats are determined to protect gun running. drug smuggling, and human trafficking across our border.

The voters will remember that the Democrats are not on the side of the American people on this issue.

by Anonymousreply 582February 15, 2019 2:56 PM

And yet he just signed Jared’s criminal justice bill.

Trump: "In a way, what I did by creating such a great economy, and if the opposing party got in, this economy would be down the tubes." He mocks people who say "the previous administration" had something to do with the good economy. He is rambling hard.

by Anonymousreply 587February 15, 2019 2:59 PM

R575, it's extremely unlikely that Trump will still be in office by the time the cases(s) come before the Supreme Court. There will be extensive litigation in the lower courts before that ever happens.

by Anonymousreply 588February 15, 2019 3:00 PM

Trump says he would have done this earlier, but "I was a little new to the job. A little new to the profession." And he blames other people who "didn't step up."

"We're stepping up now," he says.
