Only 11 more House seats now needed for Democratic Control.

by Anonymousreply 10November 7, 2018 2:08 AM

Worth repeating.

NBC prediction: DEMOCRATS HAVE 95% CHANCE OF TAKING THE HOUSE.

by Anonymousreply 11November 7, 2018 2:08 AM

Something stinks about the Florida totals. The voting of the initiatives doesn't match the governor/senate outcomes at all.

by Anonymousreply 12November 7, 2018 2:08 AM

Man I hope part 6 goes better, part 5 was lagging really bad for me, took forever to post there.

Yeah, and exit polling data was bad for us in AZ. I still have faith in Nevada though.

We always knew this was going to be a tough senate election, those red state Dems are competing in states that got even redder since their last election.

by Anonymousreply 29November 7, 2018 2:11 AM

I wonder what it will take for us to ever flip Florida, Georgia and Texas. Every election they keep saying it's gonna happen and then it doesn't

R23, John King's usually drunk on election night.

by Anonymousreply 31November 7, 2018 2:11 AM

I'm glad that the Dems will most likely win the House but it pisses me off that Trump will brag he lost fewer seats than Obama. He'll be able to reason it's because he's more popular. If the US weren't AmeriKKKa, the repubs should have lost at least 50-70 seats

by Anonymousreply 72November 7, 2018 2:15 AM

As someone who was born and raised in El Paso, I really doubted he would even get within 10 points. I'm so proud of him and Texans for getting him so close. Cruz was supposed to win by more. Texas is changing. It's not hype, it's real.

[quote]Nicole Wallace is talking about the Dem win of the House, and I'm feeling much better. She's like "This is huge." etc.

This is huge. First as a victory, it was gerrymanders to the point we needed a D+6 electorate to compete for it.

And in real world terms, this completely takes away Trump's ability to pass his agenda. And we can investigate him, demand his tax returns.

by Anonymousreply 163November 7, 2018 2:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 165November 7, 2018 2:26 AM

Now I'm waiting for an indictment or 2 or more tomorrow. Don't forget Trump could immediately fire people tonight or tomorrow after elections are over

by Anonymousreply 166November 7, 2018 2:26 AM

[quote] MUELLER IS SAFE!

No he isn't, Trump will probably fire Attny General Jeff Session before the week is out, Kris Kobach is now available to replace him, with a larger Senate held by Republicans his approval is assured.

by Anonymousreply 167November 7, 2018 2:27 AM

Mueller is safe safe safe. The House can empower him, even appoint him itself if Trump has him fired. A House investigation headed by Mueller.

by Anonymousreply 168November 7, 2018 2:27 AM

[quote] Dems will win the house. This is a big freaking deal!

No, 2006 was a big fucking deal. The country is under fucking attack and just lost tonight. Democrats hardly picked up anything. The country is not on their side. There is no big backlash against Trump, this don’t expect Dems to do much of anything. Unless they saw a wave, they ain’t going to make waves. Trust me. The exit polls even showed support for Trump. It’s insane. Trump supports Nazis, pedophiles, Russians, degrades the military, women, etc. what more do voters need??!

by Anonymousreply 171November 7, 2018 2:27 AM

TESTER (D) ahead in the early numbers in MONTANA SENATE.

Considering the bad numbers for other red-state Democratic Senators tonight, it's a good start.

by Anonymousreply 208November 7, 2018 2:32 AM

While control of the House is nice, I believe control of the Senate is much more important. What the Republicans are doing in the Senate with the lifetime appointment of judges will have an effect long after Trump is out of office. They are appointing judges in their 30s. Politico had a good article about this. We will be feeling the effects of the judge appointments for a very long time.

Yes and no, R264. In the short term, nothing changes tomorrow or early next year.

But slowly, the politicians are bankrupting the country. People under 60 now won't get Social Security and Medicare the way their parents did.

And in really bankrupt states -- IL, CA, NY, NJ -- at some point the public employees will realize they're not getting their pensions and will be out in the street. The police won't enforce traffic laws. There is the potential for huge unrest.

IT IS OFFICIAL Kendra Horn(D) did it!!!! See we're not all fucking deplorables here in OK!!! Republicans have held this seat since 1975!!!! Maybe y'all can support some of us Dems and progressives in the heartland next election cycle!! Rejoice with me DL!!

Still upset Edmonson won't be our governor, but Horn's win is HUGE! And no one outside of Oklahoma believed it could happen!!

by Anonymousreply 323November 7, 2018 2:52 AM

So do we all think Sessions and Rosenstein are gone tomorrow morning to distract the media from reporting about the loss of the House?

The Mississippi Senate seat appears headed for a runoff.

by Anonymousreply 326November 7, 2018 2:53 AM

R264 Matt Walsh couldn't be more wrong. These elections will hopefully help protect hard won gains for the public good, gains which can affect any of us. I am also hoping that climate change will be made a priority as there's no issue more urgent and all encompassing for our future. With a Republican majority government, there's no chance that would happen.

by Anonymousreply 327November 7, 2018 2:53 AM

Pelosi is a great tactician. That's why they hate her. She'll get shit done. She shoved healthcare down Obama's throat cuz she knew what was good for the country.

I also believe their stance on immigration might have hurt them a bit in some of these races. Most Americans want some form of mild immigration control. Onward to 2020! Let's get it together Dems!

by Anonymousreply 390November 7, 2018 3:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 391November 7, 2018 3:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 393November 7, 2018 3:00 AM

I was all for a new dem speaker, but with Mueller investigation they need experience. Pelosi needs to be speaker right now. she will keep them focused and in check. They need to strategize what to investigate . If they go after everything at once it will backfire. and they need to get some legislation done even if repubs vote it down. close tax loop holes jared took. improve obamacare. produce immigration reform bill. get transportsion bill. revoke delegation of tarrif power. make repubs answer.

by Anonymousreply 398November 7, 2018 3:01 AM

Ohio democratic senator Sherrod Brown keeps his senate seat, but every other major election in Ohio went to the GOP. Sherrod has figured out a way to flip the white blue collar vote that others in the Dem party can't....someone needs to replicate his method if you ever want to see Ohio go blue again. Electoral reform is looking good on the Michigan ballot so far. The measure on establishing an independent redistricting commission leads 61 percent to 39 percent, and a measure to create both automatic and election day voter registration leads 68 percent to 32 percent (marijuana legalization is also up 58 percent to 42 percent). That may convince Democrats and reformers in other states to pursue reforms with ballot initiatives. But bipartisan redistricting will also come just when Democrats would have already had a role in the process (because they won the governor race).

Because national media is horrid and ruins Dems with their both sides bullshit. The more voters hear from Dems directly instead of filtered through nonsense, the better they do.

Yes! Now some real pressure on Cuomo and maybe some real solutions re the MTA.

R440 I agree JB is no Gillum. He won!

by Anonymousreply 455November 7, 2018 3:10 AM

Cruz, DeSantis, Kemp. All such obviously vile loathsome pieces of shit. Only in America would trash like this be victorious.

by Anonymousreply 458November 7, 2018 3:10 AM

So over pandering to Latinos. Middle America hates us because of immigration.

Fucking Desantis. Of everything, that's the biggest fucking disappointment of the night for me. What a shit bag.

by Anonymousreply 461November 7, 2018 3:11 AM

Please r447 they LOST. I like Gillum, love me some Beto - but they are NOT the ticket for 2020. They will factor, but no go as Presidential candidates.

For a long time. Even when they had a numerical majority, the former Independent Democrats caucused with the Rs--with the full support of Andrew Cuomo--which gave the Rs control of the chamber.

Almost all of the Independent Dems lost their primaries this year.

Beto/Gillum. Two cool guys who can't even win their own states. Latinos and blacks are both minorities but don't necessarily support each other. Isn't that obvious in Florida?

by Anonymousreply 472November 7, 2018 3:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 487November 7, 2018 3:15 AM

Well (Florida) at least amendment 4 passed, all these ex-felons will be able to vote in 2020, a huge swing for the blue party, assuming you know; black. 2 more years of Trump, that is all.... May the next president be an atheist bull dike cunt.

by Anonymousreply 491November 7, 2018 3:16 AM

well then r478 then the Dems need to keep pointing this out. They also need to develop a slightly more moderate immigration policy, to counter some of the concerns of the middle base, independents, and others.

by Anonymousreply 492November 7, 2018 3:16 AM

Whomever runs in 2020 needs to have Joe Biden as the other half of the ticket. Older white folks trust him, and he's alright. Florida is proving to be difficult to turn on our side. (Next time let's not run a dark skinned African American for governor there. )

by Anonymousreply 509November 7, 2018 3:18 AM

[quote]too many of them are voting for Republicans.

It's almost like latinos have views that coincide with what is considered right wing views. Many of them are anti abortion, anti gay, very religious (mostly catholic tho, not protestant), racist against black people, and many of them straight up consider themselves white (which many of them are, but I mean this in that they think they will be favored by gringo white people).

And one of the biggest problem is that white americans view latinos as a one big cohesive voting block. They are not. They aren't wealthier straight white men (typically republican leaning) or black women (democrats). Different countries result in different issues that result different cultures (that stay with them when they come to America!) which can result in different voting blocks.

For example if you ask a random person from Puerto Rico about immigration it's likely they may be against it. They don't understand what it's like to have to immigrate because they can just move to America, AND PR has people from Dominican Republic who immigrate to PR as a stepping stone to move to the US.

Also mexicans who are for stronger borders and harsher immigration laws typically view it as they did it "the right way" so others should too.

And I know you're about to say "BUT THE CHILDREN'S CAMPS". True, I haven't got an answer for that, and it's fucked up they'd just ignore it. It's probably the mexican example I just gave and also a "it wouldn't happen to me" thing.

by Anonymousreply 568November 7, 2018 3:29 AM

The message of the future of the Democratic Party is this: When it came to limited house races, the Young Turks "Progressive" far left candidates were able to win. Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, etc. These are candidates whose views were questionable, were considered by some too extreme. But they only won in races where they were basically unopposed.

When it comes to State wide election, this wing decisively lost. Any candidate who (not saying they belonged to this wing) but appealed to this wing, was not able to win the state. Gillum, Abrams, Beto. Repubs accused them of perhaps being loyal to that wing.

The message is Democrats need to choose candidates that appeal to the mainstream for Senate and Presidential elections. Left of center, not far left, is the way to go.

by Anonymousreply 569November 7, 2018 3:29 AM

Shit! We won the House with this economy?! Our message is resonating guys. Republicans gerrymandered the shit out of the map and we still pulled thru???

by Anonymousreply 570November 7, 2018 3:29 AM

[quote] what the fuck is wrong with the polling?

Polling is just getting more difficult, people ditching landlines hurts, people refusing to answer a number they don't recognize, predicting who will be in the voting public.

They don't just go out and find 1000 people to poll they find the percentage of independents, republicans and democrats they expect to vote. When they get this wrong, it is huge.

A. It’s not a truly random selection, since many people initially selected do not respond. B. The results are manipulated to take into account A, and further manipulated in some cases to select which respondents are likely voters and which aren’t. It should be surprising that the actual votes are even within +/- 10 points of the poll results.

by Anonymousreply 585November 7, 2018 3:32 AM

It started with a group text Bible verse celebrating Cruz’s triumph over “evil,” R514. Escalated rapidly from there. This election was very personal because, as those assholes know, this summer my niece was diagnosed with a kind of epilepsy that she will have to treat for the rest of her life. She’s 8. The big seizure that sent her to the ER happened when she and my sister were visiting us. It was terrifying. My partner’s family know all about it. Playing games with preexisting condition shit is the real evil. Fine that they don’t see it that way, but to gloat about it, to us, was just sick.

by Anonymousreply 586November 7, 2018 3:32 AM

I'd rather see Beto or Gillum on the ticket, as VP, only because incumbency is powerful.... I don't want to pluck Dems out of the House or Senate.

by Anonymousreply 587November 7, 2018 3:32 AM

Right r573, this is actually turning into a great House election for the Dems. They are looking to flip 30-something seats.

by Anonymousreply 588November 7, 2018 3:32 AM

Adam Schiff on MSNBC!

by Anonymousreply 589November 7, 2018 3:32 AM

[quote]What’s the Bradley effect?

It means that voters tell pollsters they will vote for a Black candidate, but don't actually do so on Election Day.

by Anonymousreply 590November 7, 2018 3:33 AM

[quote]These 3 states (Florida, Texas, Ohio), are in the R pockets due to Gerrymandering, machine hacking, etc.). We will never get any wins here.

And those are three of the most important states. We needed them badly tonight, esp the governorships. I do think there was tinkering in FL, given the felon voting initiative passed but the progressive candidates did not. Something smells badly and it ain't fish.

We need to roll up our sleeves and work, work, work for the next two years. Build on what we won tonight. Analyze it carefully over the coming weeks, and then begin debate about the head of the ticket in 2020. There are lessons here to takeaway. LEARN. r569 is a great post, a good start.

by Anonymousreply 591November 7, 2018 3:33 AM

Angie Craig (D) and openly lesbian just won over the dead beat shock jock scumbag Jason Lewis (R) in Minnesota’s congressional race.

by Anonymousreply 592November 7, 2018 3:33 AM

Has any person ever voted for a President because of who the vice president will be?

by Anonymousreply 593November 7, 2018 3:33 AM

So this guy just said that if the Dems request Tax Returns and Investigations into Dotard it's a mistake because it plays into his hands.

Do we believe that?

So what? I'm sick of Dems being held to a higher and different standard.

by Anonymousreply 594November 7, 2018 3:33 AM

I think I might have to go to bed, you guys. Think it's safe for me to sleep tight without worrying about nasty surprises in the morning?

In Montana, not only is Sen Jon Tester D-MT winning by 18%, but Rep Greg Gianforte R-MT (the body slammer) is losing 54-44% with 11% reporting

by Anonymousreply 598November 7, 2018 3:34 AM

A lot of Wendy Whiner's in here tonight. We had a good night.

by Anonymousreply 599November 7, 2018 3:34 AM

I know someone who was contacted by three different polling organizations and he told them he planned on voting democrat across the board. He's a republican.

by Anonymousreply 600November 7, 2018 3:34 AM

Yes r595. The Dems definitely won't control of the house r595, you can go to sleep knowing that.

[quote]Did Dennis Hof win?

Too early to tell, as Nevada SOS hasn't posted any results at all yet.

You can click on this link tomorrow and scroll down to District 36 to see.

Somehow I think Dennis won't be waiting up.

NY Times has Scholten leading Steve King 51% to 46% with 52% reporting

by Anonymousreply 605November 7, 2018 3:35 AM

r593, no but I know many who didn't vote for McCain because of his VP choice. He was too old to have her as his VP.

Leiberman and Kaine, did nothing for this candidate. Better choices could have effected the outcome.

Yes, although Montana is a Red State, it still often votes for Democrats.

It has a Democratic Governor, a Democratic Senator, and it voted for Bill Clinton once, and nearly voted for Obama in 2008.

by Anonymousreply 607November 7, 2018 3:36 AM

I think Gillum being so vocally anti-gun hurt him. He should have not run on that and just vaguely promised to take a closer look at gun rights, and then try it once in office. Dumb Floridians, including lots of Latinos, love their guns.

by Anonymousreply 608November 7, 2018 3:37 AM

I think republicans definitely lie when asked about who they're voting for.

They KNOW they should be ashamed of liking Trump and republicans in general or of holding their breath and voting for them, but they want tax cuts or minorities to suffer, etc more.

Republicans ARE aware of how culture is against them.

by Anonymousreply 609November 7, 2018 3:37 AM

Okie, your enthusiasm is catching. Congratulations!

by Anonymousreply 610November 7, 2018 3:38 AM

Yes!

Abigail Furburger defeated Dave Twat!!!

But the tucker is refusing to concede.

by Anonymousreply 611November 7, 2018 3:38 AM

Missouri is full of idiots. They believed Josh Hawley's lie that he was protecting preexisting conditions, even though he's a party to a federal suit to eliminate protections of preexisting conditions. Fucking morons.

by Anonymousreply 612November 7, 2018 3:41 AM

Ohio is full of racist gun nuts.

Here's hoping the 2020 census cuts the population in half so we lose electoral votes to NY, MN, IL, PA or CA.

Rural retards shouldn't have power to control the country.

And goddamned evangelicals need to be swallowed up in a massive grease fire.

by Anonymousreply 613November 7, 2018 3:41 AM

BBC's coverage is definitely more positive towards the Dem House win.

I wish we were like Australia and legally you HAD to vote. All these welfare cunts in my home state of Florida who didn't vote should have that shit TAKEN AWAY.

by Anonymousreply 615November 7, 2018 3:42 AM

Florida was stolen. So many Russians live in Florida. I wish Gillum would've asked for a recount. How could people vote for mostly Black felons to vote but not Gillum/Nelson? That state stinks to high heaven, as usual.

by Anonymousreply 616November 7, 2018 3:45 AM

Well, we are waiting on california.

by Anonymousreply 617November 7, 2018 3:49 AM

"Leiberman and Kaine, did nothing for this candidate. Better choices could have effected the outcome."

Wrong, no one votes based on who the veep is

by Anonymousreply 618November 7, 2018 3:50 AM

49.2% Evers (D) vs. 48.9% Scott Walker (R) for WI governor.

83% of the vote is in.

Beto now on MSNBC speaking in El Paso.

MSNBC shows him losing to Lyin' Ted by 3 fucking per cent!

by Anonymousreply 620November 7, 2018 4:08 AM

R620, that's actually incredibly embarrassing for Cruz. In 2012, Cruz had 56% over Sadler's 40%. In 2016 Trump took Texas 52% to Clinton's 43%.

by Anonymousreply 621November 7, 2018 4:12 AM

I took a break a couple of hours ago. I return to DL to find out once again that Florida is forever disappointing. It's like we're being held hostage by that hellhole.
