Bad Reputation (2018) Joan Jett Documentary
Got a chance to see this yesterday. Great background about Joan. I thought it was as good as Edgeplay and it focused more on Joan's career. I came out feeling a bit sorry for her at the end as she seemed "owned" by her current manager. It was also odd that her new face didn't match her voice or the way she dressed.
Has anyone else seen the movie?

Can u tell me if Kristen Stewart appears in any of the interviews with other people talking about Joan?

There was a great interview with Joan on NPR Morning Edition this morning. Still among the coolest rock chicks living. I've seen her live three times, going back to playing a club in the mid-1980s when I used a fake ID to get in, and as recently as the past five years. I recommend her to all !

R1 Yes. She is interviewed during the period when they talk about making the Runaways movie. Michael J Fox is also interviewed talking about "Light of Day."

I've been a fan of Joan since her tenure with The Runaways, and still think she's the greatest. This documentary is worth seeing.

Watched it on Vudu and it was so interesting and worth watching!

Of course there was no mention of her being present while her Runaways band mate was getting raped.

R11 For one, you can tell in the way Kenney's daughter was saying "most kids get a puppy, I got Joan" as if she was some sort of possession of the Laguna family. Joan didn't seem like she had a life of her own. No girlfriend, no pussy, nothing. I don't even think the scary facelift was Joan's idea.

I'm not a fan of her sneer singing, and that's all she's got.

Love her, agree about her manager though. She was just interviewed by Marc Maron and Kenny was not only sitting-in on the interview, but he would interrupt her and finish sentences for her. At first I assumed it was because she didn’t remember a lot of details from her drug/alcohol era, but he interrupted and answered for her a lot. Weird.

She went from Kim Fowley to Kenny Laguna with no break in between.

Her facelift completely contradicts her punk clothing and style.

She's less grotesque than Madge, also born in 1958. She hasn't changed her basic look for 35 years, so the facelift isn't totally ridiculous.

She has the Asian eyes, too tight facial skin and joker mouth now. Sad. She was aging fairly well before she went to the chop shop.

She was a beautiful woman. It's a shame she got that fucked up facelift.

r13- I do think the face-lift or whatever was Joan's idea, because she has admitted that she's vain when it comes to her looks. I mean, back in a 2006 interview with NPR, she said "Definitely, I'm vain" when it comes to aging and all that comes with it. She said she does worry about that. So, I'd say the cosmetic surgeries or what have you would have been her idea.
We could dis her for her vanity, but instead, I'm rather impressed with her honesty in that regard. It takes a big person (I would think) to admit that they are vain.
People say that means she's not punk, because a true punk doesn't care about what others think, etc. However, those who say that don't seem to understand that Joan was never the poster-girl for the punks anyway. She never set out to be a punk- she just set out to be her- whatever that meant.

I am looking forward to seeing this. My only big concern about it is that I hear Suzi Quatro is only briefly mentioned in the doc, and that it doesn't really touch on her as an influence on Joan... One person even said that it makes Joan seem like she was the first ever Rock n' Roll chick. But, if we're talking about women rockers who saw mainstream success playing guitar and singing, the first would be Suzi Quatro- and it drives me crazy that she's not getting the credit she deserves anywhere! Joan was her #1 fan, so she knows this. But, I guess bygones between them in the past have made it hard for Joan to discuss her, for one reason or another. And I can understand that. Still yet, Suzi does deserve more credit than she gets by people.
That being said, I concur with r24; Joan is very special to me.

r28- You do know that she's still in the business of putting out new music, right? Her last album was not in the 1980s, but in THIS CENTURY (2013).

I once worked in an office a couple of doors down from her office. It was a building in Soho, right on Broadway. Around 2008.

No, I did not see her, R31. I was working in that building for maybe a month, during the summer. Strangely, her name was on the door. I wish I could remember the address.

r33- WOW! With her name being right on the door, it's a wonder that place wasn't staked out by fans. She's got quite a loyal, rather intense following.

I think it was 636 Broadway. I remember it as a very quiet office building. Totally inconspicuous. I never saw any people except around the elevators.

r37- I wonder if it's common for a celeb's name to be on the door? Seems like they'd want to keep fans from knowing where to get to her. But, that's pretty cool. I wonder how often she actually visits there and does office-y things, like respond to mail and stuff...
I do know that Blackheart changed locations recently, so her office is in another building now. In an old paper mill if I'm not mistaken (speaking of inconspicuous).
When you worked there for the month, were you working for someone in the music biz too, or where there other businesses in that same building?

r38- As a man (which you probably are), you should be glad that Joan is not quick to hate on other men. And if you're not a man, then you should still be glad that she's not so judge-y.

That's nice, r40. So, were you working for someone equally as famous as Joan? And just out of curiosity, did you notice any other famous people in that building with their names on the door (just trying to assess how common that is)?

I had an office for myself that summer. The building was pretty anonymous, that's why I remember her name on the door. I thought that was unusual.
