Hell yes, OP!

Some people like her better in The Runaways, some like her better with the Blackhearts. But, I think she has her peak moments with both. She was especially good in the mid-2000s in my opinion, during the Warped Tour; that Sinner album really is a winner. Her blonde period was also cool. So, she's had her stand-out moments in every decade she's been a part of, even though yes, she is solidly identified with the 1980s.

r1 She never left The Runaways- most of the others left, but Joan didn't. The Runaways simply disbanded, but she didn't leave.

She's one of my all-time favorites. Complete badass.

If Joan had been a little more creative about her management and her production, she wouldn't be stuck on the state fair circuit the way she is now. I love Joan but her attempts to stay relevant have been embarrassing.

Thanks for posting, OP. I saw her play in a small club in Harrisburg, PA in the 80s. I'm looking forward to this movie.

I wonder if it will address her being a rape apologist?

Lots of my faves play in little bookstores, etc. There's no shame in that. It's all in how it's handled- staying regular, keeping a sense of humor... In Joan Jett's case, I do think her album output should have been organized differently however. But, maybe there were reasons for it.

Her biggest fans are those who do state fairs.
The rape apologies and her pushing that bad film have cooled me on her, although I was a big Runaways fan.

Is the “Joan Jett Is Straight” Troll still here? That was a whole lot of looney.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 26, 2018 5:00 PM |
r11, That being said, who wouldn't be flattered to think there was some guy out there so hot for you that he had to insist you were straight to give himself some fantasy hope of being with you?! In a way, it's the ultimate compliment, and probably a big reason why Joan doesn't officially come out.

I saw this already at Sundance.
It's nice, Joan was there and that was lovely.
But remember this show, like THE RUNAWAYS movie starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, was produced and authorized by Joan herself.
That means you'll get to hear the famous songs. But you're only going to see Joan's point of view and views flattering to her.
This documentary doesn't touch upon the allegations that Joan stood by, watched and supported her producer Kim Fowler in raping her bandmate Cherie Currie.

Im not sure that the “Joan is Straight” Troll wants to fuck her. I think that the Troll would never accuse his heroine of being something so awful like a lesbian. So much anti-gay stuff on Datalounge.
Joan Jett is gay, by the way.

The “I’m so great” autobios and memoirs are so boring. I’m a JJ fan but I’ll skip this doc.

R9, she can't even play Vegas. She's going to be at Primm, which is about an hour from Vegas. And a lot of seats still available.

Joan is awesome and maybe the rape allegations aren’t true as she attests.
But she’s style over substance. Joan’s songs were mostly covers or written by someone else.
The only original song by her I like is “Handyman,” but she had Kenny Laguna’s help writing that and nobody knows it. She can’t write alone.
That said, she rocks and I still love her. I just downloaded a bunch of her songs for a playlist this week because her hits aren’t available for streaming.
But I see her as a Tina Turner, Elvis or Britney type of performer only.

I remember it seemed quite the scandal for the lyrics of “Crimson and Clover” to not be changed.

r17- It's not some secret that he helped her write that. It's listed on her own official fan site and probably in the album credits too- so anyone who bothers to read will know Kenny helped her write "Handyman".
Anyway, Joan has written a few songs alone. She wrote this alone, and some songs from the Runaways days also.

Her greatest achievement is that some people still know who she is 30 years after she had any notable success. I did like "I love Rock and Roll" though.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 5, 2018 2:01 AM |
I've never found anything compelling about her at all. She's a butch lesbian who never has anything interesting to say.

Her music helped me stay sane in the 80s. I remember flying to London in 1991 or 92 and listening to Bad Reputation on my discman (!!!), then getting off the plane and eventually going to the luggage claim. No one was there yet, just me and my partner. Then Joan walked up to the luggage claim!
I did a double take but since I’m from nyc I don’t make a big deal out of seeing celebs and made a point of not ogling her. But she saw me look at her and then do the double take and she smiled quietly to herself as she waited for her stuff.

Joan and Daphne Rubin-Vega became BFFs during THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW on Broadway in the early 00s. I don't know if they ever hooked up, but their chemistry was palpable onstage and off. I remember stage-dooring them as a pre-teen and they came out together (Joan rarely signed but if you befriended the right people they'd tell you where to stalk/stand to catch them in the car park/tunnel) and were very touchy-feely and sapphic.

She never munched my carpet.

r23- This surprises me. I expect to hear that about someone like Dame Maggie Smith, but Joan Jett?! I find it hard to comprehend why she would hardly sign, as it's so out of character to hear that of her. She's generally known for being there for her fans, whether they want a photo with her, or her autograph.

r23, Um, pretty sure Daphne Rubin-Vega is straight.
