What are you watching on Netflix?

i just finished the last two seasons of Agents of SHIELD and then I watched Being Human (US version). Meh!

I won't watch 13 Reasons Why or Stranger Things because they're too popular and I'm a rebel.

A Netflix rebel? Oh. Okay.

by Anonymousreply 1July 16, 2018 3:00 AM

Watched 'Good Girls' this weekend. Pretty good. Christina Hendricks has quite the rack.

by Anonymousreply 2July 16, 2018 3:06 AM

I'll have to check that out, r2.

by Anonymousreply 3July 16, 2018 8:00 PM

Just finished watching Eyewitness (Øyevitne). I really enjoyed it.

"Two 15 year old boys secretly meet up in the forest, only to witness a blood bath. They are seen, but escape trying to keep this as a secret, both in fear of the perpetrator and that their secret is revealed."

Rewatching Happy Valley. Watched Nanette yesterday and am chipping away at S2 of Kim's Convenience.

by Anonymousreply 5July 30, 2018 5:59 PM

Watching the second season of Harlots. They are really skimping on the nudity this season

by Anonymousreply 6July 30, 2018 5:59 PM

Rebel = I'm a curmudgeon who hates popular stuff just because it's popular.

by Anonymousreply 7July 30, 2018 6:01 PM

OP: Cancel Netflix if you are real rebel.

OP don't watch the Netflix movies CARGO or HOW IT ENDS.

4 hours of my life I'll never get back. Both were awful.

by Anonymousreply 10July 30, 2018 6:19 PM

Just watched the latest Jim Jeffries and Liza Schelsinger comedy specials. Liza was close in quality to her others, but Jim was a step down. Both were still worth watching, but I was slightly disappointed with Jeffries.

Basically only watch the comedy stuff there as it's therapeutic. Life dishes out enough horror and drama.

by Anonymousreply 11July 30, 2018 6:40 PM

Black Mirror. It’s overrated. It’s like getting a beautifully wrapped present and you open it to find a lovely wine bottle in a graceful casket. But the bottle is empty. The trappings are there - good cast, good cinematography, good direction and good production values. But the stories are just dumb or worthless.

by Anonymousreply 12July 30, 2018 7:06 PM

I enjoyed Altered Carbon, but a lot of people thought it too was overrated. I've heard the second season is going to star a different lead actor, so 'meh ...'

by Anonymousreply 13July 30, 2018 7:44 PM

R13, I tried to watch Altered Carbon since I wanted to see Joel Kinnaman. But, I couldn't even get through the first episode.

by Anonymousreply 18July 31, 2018 4:03 AM

I just watched Brain on Fire,

Set It Up,

and Seven Seconds.

I’m glad Seven Seconds was “cancelled”. It’s okay for a show to own its TV movie status.

Altered Carbon is wonderful, you just have to (really) be into the sci-fi genre. I don't know how I feel about the recast either. I wish they got a hotter black guy; Anthony Mackie just looks goofy to me. Also has a resting bitch face, which is never hot on a man.

About to finish a French TV series "Call My Agent." It is just okay. It deals with agents and actors, borderline soap opera and fun at times.

by Anonymousreply 29August 2, 2018 11:12 PM

The Sinner was surprisingly good. Looking forward to S2 which should start in late August, without Mrs. Timberlake but with Bill Pullman reprising his role from S1.

by Anonymousreply 30August 2, 2018 11:26 PM

I can't find anything worthwhile to watch.

by Anonymousreply 31August 2, 2018 11:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 40August 3, 2018 11:01 PM

Re-watched all of Weeds and Shameless and now watching Ozark which I love. I watched the first season of Stranger Things and liked it but I could only get through the first 2 episodes of season 2, it's just the same thing I already saw in the first season. My niece suggested 13 Reason but I just couldn't get into it.

by Anonymousreply 41August 3, 2018 11:31 PM

r35 I loved Fleabag...that actually made me seek out Crashing! I hope that Season 2 of Fleabag is still in the works.

by Anonymousreply 42August 3, 2018 11:52 PM

r40 it was excellent. I had never heard of it before which was why I searched out Season 1.

i just finished binging The Sinner's first season as well. I thought it was very good, and Jessica Biel was excellent. Love me some Christopher Abbott, too. But the guy who gets stabbed in the first episode was quite the hottie.

The song that freaks her out has been in my head for the last two days, though. I really dig it and discovered its from a band called Big Black Delta. I immediately downloaded the album.

by Anonymousreply 46August 4, 2018 2:41 AM

I wonder how Netflix will continue after they lose their Disney programming. Their original programming, for the most part, have little mass appeal and Netflix doesn't mass market them very well. They rely on the fact that they have enough customers already on their platform. You also have Prime and Hulu and even the network cable channels themselves who have jumped into streaming recently filling up the space for first run tv series and retro programming.

by Anonymousreply 47August 10, 2018 11:00 PM

Don't get me wrong I don't think Netflix is going anywhere but sooner or later it'll just be another HBO clone rather than a one stop entertainment destination as it has become known in the last few years.

by Anonymousreply 48August 10, 2018 11:02 PM

Still love White Collar and QAF, but of course, they’re old.

Been catching up on new episodes of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I enjoy looking at the cool cars and, honestly, need the laughs. Ricky Gervais episode was hilarious. Going start The Sinners this weekend.

S3 of "Hinterland."

by Anonymousreply 54August 11, 2018 2:00 AM

The recent season is really good, r53. I was watching, still, but not into it, and was pleasantly surprised.

by Anonymousreply 55August 11, 2018 2:15 AM

Yep, actually liked this season of Orange is the New Black--fair number of deadweight characters were jettisoned--miss a couple of them, but not most. It's dark, but I appreciate that there are consequences from the previous season. Mostly they pared it down to the stronger actors.

Except Daya--always one of the weakest leads, still is.

by Anonymousreply 56August 11, 2018 2:32 AM

Rea(l)ove - Japanese dating show. It’s like Battleship Royale meets Temptation Island! Each contestant has a deep, dark secret which they must reveal throughout the course of the show and there are some doozies. And the host of the show is vicious!

La Forêt, a French crime mini-series. Not bad, in spite of the fact that one of the characters is the world's most inept policewoman.

by Anonymousreply 60August 31, 2018 1:24 AM

Also, "Secret City", a really, really good Australian political/spy thriller, starring Anna Torv. Excellent.

by Anonymousreply 61August 31, 2018 1:26 AM

Mossad 101 is a pretty interesting Israeli show I'm halfway through. Wasn't too sure I'd like Toast of London but it's another good Britcom.

Just finished Berlin Babylon. Great show like everybody on the prior Netflix threads said, but another number or two as strong as To Ashes To Dust would have been welcome.

LOVED the Keepers. I WISH they'd make a sequel.

Yesterday I watched "Betting on zero", which is a GREAT documentary on Bill Ackman's going after Herbalife and trying to short sell them with a billion dollars, and then having to go head to head with Icahn in a war of wills. Incredible movie.

Insatiable

by Anonymousreply 64August 31, 2018 5:06 AM

Insatiable is campy good. It’s like a mix of Mean Girls - Heathers - GCB - & Drop Dead Gorgeous

New episodes of Death in Paradise have been added. And they are no better than the previous six seasons.

by Anonymousreply 68August 31, 2018 5:42 PM

I just watched the story of Orry Kelly. I was totally entertained. I loved seeing his designs as well. I hate to admit it, but I had no idea. What a talent. Makes me want to get his book. And yes it talks about Cary Grant. Talks about a lot of things.

by Anonymousreply 70September 6, 2018 7:39 PM

I just got a free preview month. First I watched Insatiable and liked it quite a bit. Then caught up on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, fabulous, stolen by a talking backpack (I'm under a dragon cloud!) Then caught up on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, still excellent. Then saw the final season of Lady Dynamite, totally brilliant. My favorite comedies have always have low ratings because the references fly over the heads of mainstream dumbos.

by Anonymousreply 71September 6, 2018 7:48 PM

I've raved about BABYLON BERLIN to nearly everyone I know but no one will watch it. I did get a few people to watch CRASHING and W1A. Currently watching THE GOOD PLACE, SCHITT'S CREEK and THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW. Anyone know if GLOW will have a third season? (I was pleasantly surprised that AMERICAN VANDAL is getting a second.)

by Anonymousreply 72September 6, 2018 8:05 PM

Kim's Convenience. The best comedy I've seen since Community.

by Anonymousreply 73September 6, 2018 8:09 PM

Father Brown. It's horribly written. In under 50 minutes, each episode must squeeze in a murder, an investigation, a resolution, and a pointed dramatic moment for Catholic moralizing. It gets it all done by drawing on the same small cast of series regulars who are called upon to do anything and everything, regardless of their age, sex, personality, or station in life. I hope the actors are paid well. No matter what they ask Nancy Carroll to do, she is right there doing it, and looking great, no matter how far it is from the reality of a wealthy minor aristocrat. I've now gotten as far as Father Brown becoming interested in voodoo. I can't imagine what these writers will do next to keep this franchise going.

Tom Chambers is sadly gone from the series. They wasted his considerable talent. Where are the scenes of Inspector Sullivan in the shower? In the locker room? At the Kembleford Nudist Colony?

Very intense Finnish crime drama. Takes an episode or two to get going, but it really drew me in after that. I found the Finnish language distracting, but the subtitles work very well.

I am going to start Season 2 of Ozark tonight.

by Anonymousreply 77September 9, 2018 3:01 PM

R72. I' not liking the new judge on Great British Baking show. And the two people who add personality or whatever are weird. Funny though - at least when I can understand what they just quipped. Which is seldom. Those British accents are always tough for me.

Did Paul get Mary axed. I think he has a pretty good ego!

I'm still watching it though. They always have a good group of contestants and the tension is okay. Not over the top.

by Anonymousreply 78September 9, 2018 3:22 PM

I couldn't get through Season One of Ozark. I don't like Bateman in dramas.

I'm watching Atypical right now. It is pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 79September 9, 2018 3:30 PM

Paul did not get Mary axed. She is a LONG time BBC presenter. At the end of the BBC contract with GBBO, the producers sought more money for their hit show and they found it with another British network. Mary Berry chose not to leave the BBC. I think the two comics had simply done their time and wanted to try other opportunities.

I like Prue Leith. In every way, she's better than that dried up old Mary Berry. Feh.

by Anonymousreply 80September 9, 2018 4:22 PM

Almost finished with Mossad 101. As an Iraeli show it takes a little getting used to with them speaking right to left.

Toast of London is hilarious if you get British humor. Toast is a rather lousy stage actor taking any acting work he can get.

So can anyone recommend the shows listed in the OP's linked article? Especially Gypsy, which critics hated but for some reason has a rabid gay following. Everything Sucks also looks somewhat intriguing. I remember seeing the first season of Sense 8, and thought it was just flashy imagery without a compelling narrative.

That’s one that’s never held my interest, along with Dr Blake Mysteries & Miss Fisher. (I don’t care about vintage costumes)

I like George Gently, I tolerate Vera, I just barely tolerate DCI Banks (it took me a whole show to figure out his dad was also Gregory the Australian soldierRose’s fiancé in Upstairs, Downstairs). Sometimes I don’t tolerate Banks

by Anonymousreply 89September 20, 2018 7:02 PM

Also intend to check out Season 2 of Atypical and Ozark. Will probably check out the Noah Centenio movies on there as well.

by Anonymousreply 90September 20, 2018 7:03 PM

R88 Have you watched much of the season yet? I prefer to binge all of the others, I get lost otherwise. The few parts of the first few episodes were so tedious with Paulsons character and her anxieties. Wondering if that wound down as the season passed?

by Anonymousreply 91September 20, 2018 7:14 PM

No one can take a bite out of something quite like Mary Berry.

That one little corner of her mouth gets a real workout.

by Anonymousreply 92September 20, 2018 7:19 PM

The Crown. Why didn't anyone say how dull this show was? And how on-the-nose the dialogue was? And how there were no attractive men in the show?

by Anonymousreply 93September 20, 2018 7:22 PM

AHS: Cult was a complete and utter shit show. Just awful.

by Anonymousreply 94September 20, 2018 7:50 PM

I dont have Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 95September 20, 2018 7:53 PM

Mindhunter was genius. I just loved it.

Peaky Blinders was very good. I really liked that show as well. It has four seasons.

The In-Betweeners is HILARIOUS. I find myself re-watching episodes because they are so funny. It has three 6-episode season. None of the follow-up movies are on Netflix though.

Ripper Street was enjoyable. Sort of a Victorian Law & Order type show. Though the final episode of the series sucked.

I caught the Vietnam series from PBS this past summer (missed it when it was originally on) and it was excellent.

I liked Stranger Things, too.

Could not get into: Ozark, Fresh Meat, Residue, Green Wing, Rostered On, or the new episodes of Arrested Development.

Murder Party and Terrifier were both recommended by someone on Youtube. While Terrifier could go down as a modern classic, Murder Party was a huge piece of shit, made even worse by the fact that you don't realize how shitty it really is until after 45 minutes, the point where I'd usually force myself to finish something I started. I just stared, mouth agape, at how it kept getting worse and worse until I l couldn't care less about what was happening onscreen. It made me really angry. There are ton of great independent horror titles on Netflix, Shudder, Prime, and elsewhere. Don't waste your time.

by Anonymousreply 103September 20, 2018 10:13 PM

I really like Escape to the Continent. Up and moving to those luscious looking places is a little harder than you think. It's not easy to find and fit into your life's dream. And they all hate the cold weather of England. But some of those houses -in France especially for me - I would love to retire in.

I know that sounds a little ordinary/drab, but they amp the drama up through the stratosphere. 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and it won a bunch of awards. Something like the British miniseries "She Devil," but not it's realistic, not campy.

by Anonymousreply 122October 12, 2018 8:56 PM

I fucking loved Dr. Foster. Horrible doctor - she needs to be struck off. I thought the new Wanderlust with Toni Colette would be in that vain, but it was pretty tepid in comparison (I already watched it on the BBC IPlayer, it will be on US Netflix later this month).

by Anonymousreply 123October 12, 2018 9:02 PM

The Haunting of Hill House and it’s so fucking good!!

by Anonymousreply 124October 12, 2018 9:10 PM

Only see Netflix when babysitting at my sister's house, so only recently caught up on Season 2 of THE CROWN.

by Anonymousreply 125October 12, 2018 9:13 PM

I'm watching a brand new thriller/horror series that came out today, Light as a Feather. It's pretty good. After this I'm going to watch Haunting of Hill House.

by Anonymousreply 126October 12, 2018 9:17 PM

Tsk tsk, r126, "Light as a Feather" is a Hulu series. There should be a separate thread for Hulu, most people don't have both. Sounds like something I'd watch though, and I'm also watching and enjoying Hill House.

by Anonymousreply 127October 12, 2018 9:22 PM

Hulu... Amazon... Netflix... aka, Not-Cable.

Light as a Feather is just OK. I'm giving the first 4 episodes a C+.

by Anonymousreply 128October 12, 2018 9:51 PM

If you want a truly sick and disgusting slasher movie, there's The Terrifier.

r122/r123 - loved Season One of Doctor Foster but thought S2 went too far.

by Anonymousreply 130October 13, 2018 12:37 AM

R6, Harlots is on Hulu.

Netflix US should buy up all of Come Dine With Me from Channel 4.

by Anonymousreply 131October 13, 2018 12:44 AM

Just started watching 'The Increasingly Bad Decisions of Todd Margaret' and have laughed many times. Stupid, mindless entertainment, but hits the spot.

by Anonymousreply 132October 14, 2018 4:05 PM

I am assuming there is a season three planned for Ozark, the way it ended. Anyone 'in the know' know? I thought the Ruth Langmore character was fascinating. Laura Linney was quite good, too. Such a sweet face, but veins filled with ice. Lots of very good acting. The Petty guy was deliciously fucked up and creepy. At times rather handsome (especially in his fishing gear) and other times, sort of ugly in a recessed-gene kind of way.

by Anonymousreply 133October 14, 2018 4:08 PM

What R117 said. Holy shit. Laugh-out-loud funny.

by Anonymousreply 134October 14, 2018 4:11 PM

I finished MANIAC (Emma Stone & Jonah Hill) last week -it was OK and I would recommend only if you're caught up with all the other shows on your Must See list. They just added MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS, so I'm watching them. Loved MP back in the day. I'm currently on episode two of THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE - so far, it's pretty good but nothing like the book/original movie.

by Anonymousreply 135October 14, 2018 4:19 PM

When is season 3 of The Crown coming out? Any news on that? I'm going to miss Clair Foy and the rest of the original cast.

by Anonymousreply 136October 14, 2018 4:32 PM

Is Schitt's Creek season 4 on there yet? I'm not re-upping my Netflix subscription until that's available.

by Anonymousreply 137October 14, 2018 4:43 PM

I'm actually upset Iron Fist got canceled. Sure season 1 sucked, but season 2 was very good, and set up an amazing season 3... that we'll now never get to see. Goddammit.

by Anonymousreply 138October 14, 2018 5:31 PM

R133, a third season of Ozark has just been announced.

As for The Crown it’s been announced that Season 3 will be released sometime next year. They did start shooting much later than usual (S1 and S2 started in Oct/Nov and S3 started in April, I think). I thought maybe they’d pull a Kimmy Schmidt and release half the season in December to be eligible for the SAG Awards and Golden Globes but I think they’ve decided to wait it out. I guess it makes sense since S3 has an all new cast.

by Anonymousreply 139October 14, 2018 5:42 PM

The OA was excellent - it seems no one else watched it.

by Anonymousreply 140October 14, 2018 5:42 PM

R140, I watched it and I loved it. Is there a season 2 of The OA, or was it a one-and-done?

by Anonymousreply 141October 14, 2018 5:51 PM

I'm watching the good cop with Josh Groban and Tony Danza. I love it.

by Anonymousreply 142October 14, 2018 6:08 PM

-R133- here: The correct title is The Increasingly POOR Decisions of Todd Margaret. Really dumb, but makes me laugh out loud, so I persist. Thanks for update on Ozark. I knew it couldn't just go away on that final note.

by Anonymousreply 143October 14, 2018 7:07 PM

I can't wait for Big Little Lies 2 - no on Netflix but I am looking forward to it

by Anonymousreply 144October 14, 2018 7:17 PM

I'm watching the first episode of "The Haunting Of Hill House". I'm about 3/4 of the way through and I'm not impressed at all. I doubt I will continue watching after this episode. I was expecting much better.

by Anonymousreply 145October 14, 2018 8:01 PM

Just watched The Kindergarten Teacher, eh. Now about to start The Good Place.

by Anonymousreply 146October 14, 2018 8:19 PM

R122 - I loved the first Dr. Foster series but hated the second. And I absolutely detested the way that the series ended.

by Anonymousreply 147October 14, 2018 8:52 PM

I'm watching The Haunting of Hill House. So far, it's good.

by Anonymousreply 148October 14, 2018 9:07 PM
And I absolutely detested the way that the series ended.

You realize, it's based on the myth of Medea , right?

by Anonymousreply 149October 14, 2018 9:17 PM

I haven’t read the whole thread but Designated Survivor is good.

by Anonymousreply 150October 14, 2018 9:20 PM

I've been watching both The Kindergarten Teacher and Hill House this weekend. Both okay but not what I would call great.

Can't wait for the second season of Mindhunter. Loved the first season so much that I watched it twice.

by Anonymousreply 151October 14, 2018 9:25 PM

@ r141 I read that they are doing a second season - not sure how. I thought season one really completed the story. I’m glad you enjoyed it too - I don’t know anybody else who watched it. I thought It was such a creative take on storytelling. I couldn’t tell where it was going - episode to episode. It hooked me.

by Anonymousreply 152October 14, 2018 9:36 PM

Wow, you guys watch a lot. I have a hard time finding the time to binge watch Light As A Feather which is good, but I expected something more like Pretty Little Liars and it's more Final Destination.

by Anonymousreply 153October 14, 2018 9:37 PM

I loved all four seasons of Rita - the lead character was exactly like so many women that I have known. I liked how all the characters were flawed and completely relatable.

by Anonymousreply 154October 14, 2018 9:44 PM

Have you watched Hjordis, r154? It’s cute.

by Anonymousreply 155October 14, 2018 9:45 PM

Where are the sexy gays?

by Anonymousreply 156October 14, 2018 9:49 PM

R152, the second season has been shot. It will apparently be very different from S1. The parents aren’t in it at all and it was mostly shot in California (as opposed to NY for S1).

by Anonymousreply 157October 14, 2018 10:32 PM

Just finished The Haunting of Hill House now starting Schitt's Creek. Only a few episodes in but loving it so far.

by Anonymousreply 158October 14, 2018 10:37 PM

I’m watching a Dutch film called The Resistance Banker based on the true story of financial people in the Netherlands hiding money from the Nazis. The lead is really hot. I suspect it won’t end well.

fugs from way bak

HOW IN FUK IS THEY STARS?????

R162. I am enjoying the good cop. I have 2 more episodes to go. I find it funny. I do like Josh Groban and am pleasantly surprised at how well he did in this series. ( first time I've watched him act)

by Anonymousreply 167October 15, 2018 12:00 AM

r170 Purposely Bad Speller, I quit months ago. All of a sudden, everything I wanted to watch was only available on DVD for an extra $7/mo.

by Anonymousreply 171October 15, 2018 9:17 AM

The Haunting of Hill House. Episode 6 was so damn scary. I can't watch this at night.

by Anonymousreply 172October 16, 2018 4:09 AM

R137: S4 of Schitts Creek launched on Netflix on Oct. 11. Catherine O'Hara and Dan Levy are still hilarious. (And Modern Family wasted Levy in a brief one-off role last week.)

by Anonymousreply 173October 16, 2018 7:14 PM

His son really is gorgeous. And I like seeing Catherine and Eugene in a pro-gay show, when SCTV, though inarguably brilliant, was homophobic occasionally. And Eugene's son is the kind of queen he used to make fun of. Now he has to kiss gay butt and like it.

by Anonymousreply 174October 16, 2018 7:22 PM

I'm about to start Schitt's Creek S4. It's such a delight.

Here in the UK it's a word of mouth sleeper hit with a cult following.

by Anonymousreply 175October 16, 2018 7:33 PM

I loved S4 of Schitt’s Creek.

by Anonymousreply 176October 16, 2018 7:46 PM

David and Patrick's relationship on Schitts Creek warms my hard, coal-black heart. They are such opposites -- David is wound tighter than a sequinned turban, and Patrick is laid back and forever gently taking the piss out of David -- and yet completely belong together. I know there's a season 5 coming (someday), and I hope there are several more seasons, although I'm not sure how long they can sustain the concept of the Rose family living in a motel.

by Anonymousreply 177October 16, 2018 8:56 PM

I haven't seen anything noteworthy on Netflix in ages. For every halfway palatable show, there are 100 shitbirds. It's like a steady diet of Arby's.

by Anonymousreply 178October 16, 2018 10:43 PM

That's the challenge of Netflix, overturning rock after rock to find the gems. You know they're there, you just have to find them.

by Anonymousreply 179October 16, 2018 10:49 PM

And, Netflix' stock rises on record new membership numbers. I hope that gives them some ability to hold onto some of the programming that other studios are trying to keep now to start their own streaming service. I don't understand what some of these companies and networks are thinking. No one is going to buy 15 different streaming services. Most of them will just stick with the big ones. I hope the increasing membership numbers for Netflix kill some of those ideas the other networks are having of starting their own streaming services.

by Anonymousreply 180October 18, 2018 12:21 AM

Season 4 of SCHITTS CREEK is now available on Netflix.

Dying with laughter.

Daniel Levy is much more nelly in S4 than before & Catherine Harris is much nuttier (if that were possible).

When Levy gets twitterpated, he looks up into the air & crosses his eyes while speaking.

by Anonymousreply 181October 18, 2018 4:45 PM

Hoping Wanderlust with Toni Collette is decent. It starts tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 182October 18, 2018 11:07 PM

Schitts Creek's Daniel Levy, wound tighter than a ball of twine, has somehow become my TV Boyfriend. (Don't tell Patrick.)

by Anonymousreply 183October 18, 2018 11:12 PM

There's a new horror series that's coming out tomorrow: Haunted.

by Anonymousreply 184October 18, 2018 11:13 PM

I watched Apostle with Michael Sheen last night. Gory.

by Anonymousreply 185October 19, 2018 1:32 AM

I started watching something called THE RAIN. A virus wipes out nearly everyone in Denmark. Two kids survive by living in a bunker for six years, and it's their underground life that the first episode deals with. I found the kids annoying, especially the girl. At the end of the first episode they leave the bunker. I hope it gets better from here on.

I tried watching the first episode of LOST IN SPACE. Great visual FX aside, this is network TV level of writing and acting, but with better production value. Horrid.

by Anonymousreply 186October 19, 2018 1:46 AM

One thing I wish Netflix would do better is indicate which shows are in a foreign language. I watch foreign films all the time but don't always want to sit and pay really close attention and there have been a few times that I started a show and then realized it was subtitled.

Did the second season of Making a Murderer start today? And, I just started watching Legends of Tomorrow. Don't usually watch the superhero stuff but the lesbian (maybe started out bi?) on there is pretty hot and I read her story line was pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 187October 19, 2018 3:35 AM

I wish the UN would pass a global crimes against art decree prohibiting any further film/tv productions about WWII or in the genre of 'horror'.

by Anonymousreply 188October 19, 2018 5:40 AM

What a strange aside, R188.

by Anonymousreply 189October 19, 2018 5:49 AM

Or, R188, that at least the horror has to be good. It's become such a throwaway genre - lots of crap, few gems.

by Anonymousreply 190October 19, 2018 7:35 AM

O'Hara, not Harris...yikes, sorry

by Anonymousreply 191October 19, 2018 11:36 AM

Add recommendation for:

The Fall—set in Northern Ireland. Gillian Anderson's British accent is only fair but she's gorgeous & the murderer is hot. Three seasons.

Secret City—Australian journo gets wind of a coverup involving toxics. Great political thriller, great performances and plot.

River—Brit cop show, read the description, thought nah, then watched the trailer and was hooked. Stars one of the daughters of Last Tango Halifax (whose season1 was decent but that’s as far as I would rec for Halifax)

And one not mentioned yet:

Rake—Aussie barrister show. Like a very modern update of the old Rumpole series.

by Anonymousreply 192October 19, 2018 12:59 PM

R192 - Gillian Anderson's British accent is her natural accent. She grew up here.

by Anonymousreply 193October 19, 2018 1:03 PM

The Haunted dropped today. Here's the IMDB blurb:

A chilling glimpse into the first-person accounts from people who have witnessed horrifying, peculiar, extraordinary supernatural events and other unexplained phenomenons that continue to haunt them.

by Anonymousreply 194October 19, 2018 1:21 PM

The Haunted sounds like a true crime show where the supernatural events are re-created. This a "Pass" from me.

by Anonymousreply 195October 19, 2018 1:26 PM

Not totally, R193. She also grew up in the US.

by Anonymousreply 196October 19, 2018 1:28 PM

Another vote for Kim's Convenience. I just finished the first season and really liked it.

by Anonymousreply 197October 19, 2018 1:33 PM

R196 - She lived in the UK from two to eleven years old. She grew up with a British accent. She's even said she was bullied when she moved to the US because they thought she was British. She might have been born in the US and is American by birth but she didn't start speaking with an American accent until she was a teenager.

by Anonymousreply 198October 19, 2018 1:45 PM

Whatever, R198. She speaks in two different accents depending on where she is and it’s pretentious as hell.

by Anonymousreply 199October 19, 2018 2:17 PM

Watched two episodes of Babylon Berlin and thought it was pretty stupid so gave up. However, The Kindergarten Teacher was quite good, particularly Gyllenhaal's performance.

by Anonymousreply 200October 19, 2018 2:24 PM

It's call acting, dumbass at R199.

by Anonymousreply 201October 19, 2018 2:29 PM

L'affaire torride

by Anonymousreply 202October 19, 2018 2:35 PM

I loved The Fall. Watched most of it twice.

Just discovered Schitts's Creek and I'm loving it. The perfect show to just watch a few episodes when you want to relax.

What I'm really looking forward to though is not a Netflix show but Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It really is quite marvelous.

by Anonymousreply 203October 19, 2018 2:48 PM

Hey R201/moron, can you read English? I said she speaks with a different accent DEPENDING ON WHICH TALK SHOW SHE’S ON. Make reading comprehension manuals your friend, darling.

by Anonymousreply 204October 19, 2018 9:30 PM

R204 Where did you say that?

by Anonymousreply 205October 19, 2018 11:29 PM

Another vote for Kim's Convenience -- and a proviso to keep your expectations low. I think the show works best when it sticks to the store and less well when it goes outside it (i.e., the son's job at the car rental office). The parents are very funny, especially the mother.

by Anonymousreply 206October 20, 2018 12:46 AM

Is anyone looking forward to the second season of Medici? I watched the first season and I actually liked it. Just waiting for the second season. I love Daniel Sharman.

by Anonymousreply 208October 20, 2018 5:56 PM

I like their shitty original entertainment like the Netflix teen rom-com movie The Kissing Booth or the great and funny slasher flick The Babysitter.

by Anonymousreply 209October 20, 2018 6:07 PM

Elite. Good Spanish show with a gay storyline. Too bad the gay storyline is not as explicit as the straight ones though.

by Anonymousreply 210October 20, 2018 6:08 PM

R192

That was not Secret City but The Code, also set in Australia. Secret City was great, too.

by Anonymousreply 211October 20, 2018 7:34 PM

Anyone else noticed that tons and tons of the newest stuff available on Netflix is Korean and Indian? I've also noticed an uptick in the number of Christian shows. That would be fine but I also think there seems to be less and less gay and lesbian stuff and the stuff that is there has been there for a long time. It's like they've stopped adding new gay and lesbian content and gone more toward the conservative side.

I also have Roku and, while their self-made channels have been about 90% church-related forever, even the Roku Channel itself offers a lot of Christian programming but I don't think I could find one gay or lesbian offering last time I looked. Not even during June or October.

by Anonymousreply 212October 21, 2018 11:41 PM

I recommend The Babysitter too. What a fun, campy 80’s nod slasher flick. I also just finished season 2 Ozark . What a great show!! Jason Bateman and Laura Linney are superb in it.

The Haunting of Hill House. One of the best horror series on tv right now. Episode 6 was creepy and amazing.

by Anonymousreply 216October 22, 2018 12:52 AM

Episode 1 was okay, r216, but it wasn't great.

by Anonymousreply 217October 22, 2018 1:06 AM

Daredevil, Season 3. This season has been the best. I don't think Charlie Cox gets enough credit for carrying this show (I mean, look at Iron Fist and Luke Cage). He's always been a consistently good actor and very underrated.

by Anonymousreply 218October 22, 2018 1:14 AM

I just watched Episode 1 and 2 of Haunting of Hill House. I'm glad to know it gets better--what a snoozer of a start.

by Anonymousreply 219October 22, 2018 1:15 AM

Haunted was okay but it reminds me of Paranormal Witness on cable tv (not sure which channel- A&E or History?)

by Anonymousreply 220October 22, 2018 4:25 AM

Yeah, I like the quality shows that have numerous mentions here, The Killing is one of my favorite series ever. I also watched The OA and am anxiously awaiting the second season, and it has been confirmed that it is coming. I agree that the second season of Stranger Things was a let down. I also like some lighter fair to add to the mix so I watch the teen dramas Insatiable, Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why and Elite. Those have some nice eye candy and gay story lines.

by Anonymousreply 228October 22, 2018 10:02 AM

Yeah, I just don't want to read tv unless I'm watching a good film in another language.

by Anonymousreply 229October 22, 2018 10:14 AM

Gypsy was so bad it was actually kind of fun. I have a mad crush on Sophie Cookson because of it. Netflix would be smart to bring it back for a second season and promote it as ‘back by popular demand’.

by Anonymousreply 230October 22, 2018 10:45 AM

Gypsy was incoherent. They should do mashups of their failed series just kind of extracting the bits that worked and slamming them together, continuity be damned.

by Anonymousreply 231October 22, 2018 11:05 AM

Travelers

by Anonymousreply 232October 22, 2018 11:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 233October 22, 2018 11:38 AM

R232 I watched that recently! It's good. Waiting for the next season.

by Anonymousreply 234October 22, 2018 11:40 AM

Another vote for American Vandal S2. I cannot believe the amount of detail they put into this series. And somehow the puerile humor (dick jokes, turd jokes) never quite gets old.

by Anonymousreply 235October 25, 2018 7:46 PM

I'm watching The Bodyguard Got through the first two episodes. I like Madden, but not sure I like this. So far so good.

by Anonymousreply 247October 26, 2018 1:53 PM

I just finished The Bodyguard and I liked it. Madden was great. But Gina McKee bores me to tears with her perma open mouth expression.

by Anonymousreply 248October 26, 2018 1:57 PM

OK. I just finished Bodyguard. I liked it. I thought I might not, but I do like it. Madden did a really good job. It was well done over all. I think that I have to say the strength of the series was the writing. I loved the twists and turns in the plot and trying to keep up with everyone. Very good job. The acting was solid all round, but as I think about it, as these kinds of series go, Madden's role and the roles of everyone else in the series could have been played by anyone else.

There are so many actors in the UK who could do the job, as I see it. What makes the series really good is the plot. The writing. Think of some other actor in the role and see if I'm not right. I am not disparaging Madden. He is a very good actor. I've enjoyed him in every single thing I've seen. But there was nothing unique about his character.

I will also say they sure did milk the bomb vest thing to death didn't they? And when all is revealed, and we discover who the villains are, I found it sort of anti climactic. I wish it had been more of an "Aha!" moment. Although to be fair, there were so many suspicious people wandering around they did keep you guessing til the last minute.

by Anonymousreply 249October 26, 2018 2:56 PM

Watching Making of a Murderer 2– just as riveting as the first docu-series!

Looking forward to Bodyguard.

by Anonymousreply 250October 26, 2018 3:00 PM

It seems as if every dang show on Netflix is violent. Except for the cooking or documentaries.

by Anonymousreply 251October 26, 2018 3:02 PM

Loved the Bodyguard. Thought it was riveting and Madden was excellent, and awfully nice to look at!

by Anonymousreply 252October 26, 2018 3:05 PM

I'm enjoying the Windsors documentary. I've just got to the episode where the Charles Diana marriage is unraveling. Boy they really changed my perspective on Diana.Even her personal secretary left.

by Anonymousreply 253October 26, 2018 3:07 PM
And when all is revealed, and we discover who the villains are, I found it sort of anti climactic.

I thought the final villain was a genuine twist. The narrative made sure to treat the rest of them as possibilities so you could reasonably start suspecting them at some point or other.

by Anonymousreply 254October 26, 2018 10:26 PM

Speaking of violent shows, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina just came out and I'm one episode in. It has that Scottish performer playing one of the main roles - I can't remember her name but she's hilarious in her comedy work. It's pretty good so far, a bit campy so it should be a hit.

by Anonymousreply 255October 26, 2018 10:45 PM

Boo, Netflix cancelled American Vandal.

"American Vandal's cancellation comes as Netflix is starting to whittle down its scripted originals from outside studios, recently axing All About the Washingtons, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, all of which hailed from ABC Studios."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 256October 26, 2018 10:49 PM

They Head of the Priest of Night just pronounced "Samhain" as sam-hayn. Illusion destroyed!

by Anonymousreply 257October 26, 2018 11:56 PM

Too bad about American Vandal, which I enjoyed. But I'm not sure how many more seasons they could do without it getting completely repetitive. It's like Black Mirror (which I also enjoy) -- you know there's going to be some gizmo or technology and that it's going to go horribly wrong (in most episodes), so you sit and wait for that to happen. Same with Vandal -- boob jokes would have been next, perhaps, and then, I don't know, farts. Still, kudos to the show's incredibly detailed milieux and, yes, the dick jokes.

by Anonymousreply 258October 27, 2018 12:11 AM
"Netflix is starting to whittle down its scripted originals from outside studios, recently axing All About the Washingtons, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, all of which hailed from ABC Studios."

Does this mean they will axe Daredevil? Season 3 was the best of all the Marvel shows. I would be very sad to see that show go. I'm a big fan of Charlie Cox.

by Anonymousreply 259October 27, 2018 12:11 AM

Liking Wanderlust so far.

by Anonymousreply 260October 27, 2018 4:28 AM

I've read that The Bodyguard was/is a UK series. Do you need to watch any of that before starting the Netflix series, or does it stand on its own?

by Anonymousreply 261October 27, 2018 3:22 PM

I've just started the Bodyguard and Madden's performance is really, really irritating. He reminds me of the T-1000 on Terminator II. No emotions, no facial expressions, weird way of talking...  Does this get better?

by Anonymousreply 262October 27, 2018 3:34 PM

I don't know of an older series, R261. This series is self-standing. It's created by the guy who does Line of Duty.

The correct title is just Bodyguard.
No emotions, no facial expressions

This behavior is pivotal, and understandable to anyone who actually listens and watches the scenes revealing the character's backstory.
weird way of talking...

It's called a Scottish accent, Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 263October 27, 2018 3:41 PM

R263 Watching a dubbed version, dickhead, so it's about the way he talks combined with his facial expressions. Not the accent.

by Anonymousreply 264October 27, 2018 3:45 PM

R247, yes, there’s a thread about it.

by Anonymousreply 265October 27, 2018 3:45 PM

R264, If it's a dubbed version, you're listening to another actor in another language. Duh.

by Anonymousreply 266October 27, 2018 3:53 PM

Currently waiting “Bodyguard” and “The chilling adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch”.

by Anonymousreply 267October 27, 2018 4:00 PM

Is closed captioning available on Netflix? When there are British and Scottish accents they help me understand what the f they are saying.

by Anonymousreply 268October 27, 2018 4:02 PM

Maniac. Very, very strange.

by Anonymousreply 269October 27, 2018 4:03 PM

I enjoyed “To All The Boys I loved before” but I don’t understand why the character of Josh was left behind. Josh was way hotter than Peter, IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 270October 27, 2018 4:05 PM

R262…that’s part of his character, because he’s suffering from post traumatic stress. I’ve loved Richard Madden since I first saw him in Cinderella.

by Anonymousreply 271October 27, 2018 4:09 PM

Anyone else think Richard Madden should get an Emmy nomination for Bodyguard?

by Anonymousreply 272October 27, 2018 4:19 PM

R272, is he naked in it? If so, then yes.

by Anonymousreply 273October 27, 2018 4:20 PM

[bold] Elite is a good show.

by Anonymousreply 274October 27, 2018 4:22 PM

r268 yes, I've turned it on in a few shots, not just Bodyguard, when I can't understand what they're saying. Didn't have that problem with Madden, although I did spend a few years in the UK so I may have picked up some accents.

by Anonymousreply 275October 27, 2018 4:29 PM

Just finished Daredevil Season 3. Damn, that was fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 276October 27, 2018 5:21 PM

Daredevil season 3.

by Anonymousreply 277October 27, 2018 7:36 PM

I haven’t watched the latest season of Jessica Jones yet. Do I need to see that before watching Daredevil season 3, or is there no relation?

by Anonymousreply 278October 27, 2018 7:38 PM

No, there is no relation between JJ and Daredevil. You don't need to watch season 1 of DD to watch season 3 but it helps to know the backstory.

by Anonymousreply 279October 27, 2018 7:47 PM

I'm about 5 episodes in DD Season 3 and kind of bored. Every episode is something dark and horrible. Maybe I'm just getting burned out on misery shows. That was one of the reasons I could barely get through the last season of Luke Cage - it was just TOO MUCH horribleness and human nature and speeches on human nature and horribleness etc.

I kind of like the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina so far because it's got an edge of camp to it - it's serious and there can be some horrible stuff, but not TOO serious. The characters aren't moping for 6 episodes and pondering life, the universe, and everything.

by Anonymousreply 280October 27, 2018 8:03 PM

Just finished Haunting of Hill House and thought it was great, but thought the last episode just sucked. What a bummer.

by Anonymousreply 281October 27, 2018 8:03 PM

Season 4 of Schitt's Creek was very funny and very sweet. Daniel Levy and Catherine O'Hara are so good. Seemed like they tied up most of the story lines though. Hope this doesn't mean that there won't be a season 5.

by Anonymousreply 282October 27, 2018 8:42 PM

R278, you're likely to be lost if you didn't see "The Defenders", as DareDevil Season 3 picks up from the aftermath of the finale of that show.

by Anonymousreply 283October 27, 2018 8:43 PM

R280, fair enough, but I'll say this much... the finale of DD3 pays off the efforts, and leaves things in a better place than our three heroes have been in a while. In my humble opinion, it's worth sticking with through to the end. Even though I have to warn you that there's much more terribleness ahead. But just when everything seems most hopeless is when the good in humanity shines through. Hold on to that I guess.

by Anonymousreply 284October 27, 2018 8:45 PM

R280, Episode 6 is where it kicks off and becomes more exciting.

by Anonymousreply 285October 27, 2018 10:00 PM

R282 Schmitt's Creek has been renewed for a fifth season. Just recently discovered the series and I love it. Eugene and Daniel are wonderful and the rest of the cast is fine too.

by Anonymousreply 286October 27, 2018 10:40 PM

Schitts Creek S4 has an as-yet-unaired Christmas episode, and I believe S5 is in the can. No idea when either will air or be available for streaming, although one would assume the holiday episode will be shown in December.

by Anonymousreply 287October 28, 2018 10:39 PM

Okay, darlings, I think it's time we put our remotes down and crack open a good book for a change, don't you? We don't want our gray matter atrophying into a sludge now, do we?...….DO WE? Good. Let's open up to Chapter One of tonight's entertainment, THE HAPPY HOLLISTERS AT MYSTERY MOUNTAIN.

by Anonymousreply 288October 29, 2018 3:52 AM

Slut, go to the several book threads if you want to talk about written word things!

We're happy spending our time on Netflix and learning how to summon the Dark Lord.

by Anonymousreply 289October 29, 2018 4:05 AM

Money Heist.

by Anonymousreply 290October 29, 2018 6:57 AM

Since Halloween is coming up, here is a list of the best horror movies on Netflix per RottenTomatoes.

I watched Oculus (#36), the movie directed by Mike Flanagan who made The Haunting of Hill House. Oculus was pretty good, stars DL fave Brenton Thwaites.

Anything besides schitts creek that is funny funny? I just finished marvelous mrs.maisel season 1 and need something new for the gym. Prime or Netflix. Like ab fab early seasons funny, not subtle funny. Thx!

by Anonymousreply 292October 29, 2018 11:22 AM

Lost in Space is fantastic, absolutely mind blowing and the acting is great. Maybe Dr. Smith sucks though, can't stand her. Haunting hill house sucks has nothing to do with thd novel or the original sixties movie.

So many of Netflix's sloowww moving, or cheap looking. Nice to havd some foreign stuff.

They need to get Halcyon and other British shows.

by Anonymousreply 293October 29, 2018 11:57 AM

Lost in Space sucked like your spelling.

by Anonymousreply 294October 29, 2018 12:20 PM

Is Rosario Dawson in Season 3? I stopped watching Daredevil after the first season or maybe a little bit into Season 2, because I hated her for criticizing Hillary and campaigning against her in 2016. Susan Sarandon and Rosario a re the two actors I hate the most.

by Anonymousreply 295October 29, 2018 2:11 PM

R294 have you ever heard of typos. Guess not, since you are too slow witted to understand L I S. I bet you Jack off to Star Blech.

by Anonymousreply 296October 29, 2018 4:27 PM

I enjoyed W1A on Netflix. I really enjoyed the humor- if you have worked for a large Corporation you’ll probably enjoy it.

by Anonymousreply 297October 29, 2018 6:09 PM

r293 I tried watching Lost in Space and gave up when (spoiler) the boy had the robot step off the cliff. And whatever the hell is up with Dr. Smith - I have never really liked the actress either. I mainly started watching because I thought the dad (he's a Brit) was hunky.

by Anonymousreply 298October 29, 2018 6:12 PM

Another vote for W1A, which I've watched a couple of times. It's also the follow-on to Twenty Twelve (some of the actors are in both), which I believe is on Amazon P. I wish the creators would do another series, but I think they've said they won't, alas.

by Anonymousreply 299October 29, 2018 6:45 PM

I can heartily recommend 22 JULY, about the Norway massacre. It's essentially a procedural, done in documentary style, and very well-acted by a Scandinavian cast in English.

by Anonymousreply 300October 29, 2018 7:19 PM

I'm watching The Bad Seed on TMC right now. Jealous, bitchez???

by Anonymousreply 301October 29, 2018 10:44 PM

I don't know about The Bad Seed but I'm hitting the bottle like Eileen Heckart….

by Anonymousreply 302October 29, 2018 11:08 PM

I would like a 10 year TV moratorium on

Viruses

Zombies

WWIII

Clown monsters

Brilliant serial killers who are using: the Bible, Shakespeare, Nostradamus, The Book of Kells, nursery rhymes, the Tibetan book of the dead, fairy tales or bodies posed as famous paintings as clues to his murderous psyche.

by Anonymousreply 303October 30, 2018 12:11 AM

You said it, r 303!

by Anonymousreply 304October 30, 2018 1:25 AM

Two votes for r303

by Anonymousreply 305October 31, 2018 7:31 AM

Everyone watch Bodyguard - British, 100% Rotten Tomatoes, & only 6 episodes. I loved it and I hate everrrything. Watch it soon to avoid spoilers as it's a thriller with some twists and surprises. But it's cheesey fun as well. There will be a Season 2 as well.

by Anonymousreply 306October 31, 2018 9:38 AM

I was trying to watch "Helix" and was about 1/3 away from the first season, when last night Netflix suddenly pulled it and now only the second season is available. And it's not on Amazon Prime (except if I wanted to buy it, which I don't) or Hulu.

by Anonymousreply 307November 10, 2018 5:20 PM

I watched Outlaw WTFever so I could see Chris Pine's bits. what a let down. Not his bits, but the story itself. And I love Historical dramas.

by Anonymousreply 308November 10, 2018 5:23 PM

Were the bits adequate?

by Anonymousreply 309November 10, 2018 5:31 PM

I'm watching the OA now. The Homer guy and the redhead guy (he's Irish IRL) have hot bodies. I didn't think Homer was all that until I saw him shirtless.

I thought the goddess (or whoever she was) might be Baba Yaga, but I think she's an amalgamation of various folklore and not anyone specific.

by Anonymousreply 310November 11, 2018 2:54 AM

Just finished watching a movie, Once Upon a TIme in America, an old Sergio Leone movie almost 4 hours long! Robert De Niro, James Woods, Tuesday Weld looking great. It was good. A very young jennifer Connelly made her acting debut in it and Elizabeth McGovern was very good too, and she looked pretty.

by Anonymousreply 311November 11, 2018 3:01 AM

Watching The Outlaw King. It's a bit slow and underwhelming. They could have used a better director. btw, Chris Pine's naked body is nice but could hardly see his peen.

by Anonymousreply 312November 11, 2018 3:29 AM

There's a new season of the Great British Bake Off. It's always fun to watch them struggle with impossible projects and too little time.

by Anonymousreply 313November 11, 2018 3:40 AM

R313 I hate that Netflix has different content for different countries and you can't switch to a different country. I would soooo love to watch all the British shows on Netflix UK.

by Anonymousreply 314November 11, 2018 4:00 AM

Agreed. I was watching some shows when I was living in the UK for awhile, and as soon as I flew back suddenly they were "unavailable" even though I had downloaded them. I've tried using a proxy but they seem to have more sophisticated means to detect that.

by Anonymousreply 315November 11, 2018 4:01 AM

La Casa de las Flores

by Anonymousreply 316November 11, 2018 4:15 AM

I tried to use a proxy too and so far no luck. On vacation I thought you could easily access the country's content, but even that was not possible. I still only had access to my country's library.

Netflix UK has some great BBC shows, comedies and dramas. At my friends house we were watching an old comedy called Him&Her about a lazy working class couple in their 20s and some older BBC (crime) dramas.

by Anonymousreply 317November 11, 2018 4:16 AM

When I wanted to binge the latest season of Morse, I just activated the "free trial" for Brit Box (or whatever it was) on Amazon and binged the season. The lovely thing about cancelling trial subscriptions on Amazon is that it's just a couple of clicks, you never have to deal with a real person.

by Anonymousreply 318November 11, 2018 4:23 AM

OMG, r311, Once Upon A Time In America is one of my favorite movies ever! I've seen it several times but I've been revisiting it on Netflix as well. It is a stunning film, one that grows more profound with every viewing, with its heartbreaking story of male friendships (so rare in American cinema) and its fractured time-jumping narrative. It is a true classic and I can't recommend it strongly enough.

by Anonymousreply 319November 11, 2018 4:25 AM

Just finished Broadchurch - fantastic acting and storytelling.

by Anonymousreply 320November 11, 2018 9:49 AM

So far have enjoyed “Bodyguard” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”.

by Anonymousreply 321November 11, 2018 12:44 PM

R313 - Netflix is starting to show the earlier seasons of GBBS. It's under the title Great British Baking Show - The Beginnings.

by Anonymousreply 322November 11, 2018 4:56 PM

Rocco Siffredi documentary

by Anonymousreply 323November 11, 2018 7:35 PM

Started watching Jerico. I never got around to seeing this when it was on originally.

by Anonymousreply 324November 16, 2018 2:45 AM

[R320], if you loved Broadchurch, make sure you check out Happy Valley.

by Anonymousreply 325November 16, 2018 2:59 AM

I watched the final season of House of Cards. What a waste of 8 hours of my life!

by Anonymousreply 326November 16, 2018 3:26 AM

Am in the middle of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. Some choice observations about Hollywood (with several cameos), but the film within the film is like a college thesis parody of Antonioni and other filmmakers of the period with a lot of flesh (mostly of Oja Kodar. Welles' late-in-life partner). It must have been a labor of love to assemble the footage into something resembling coherent narrative.

by Anonymousreply 327November 16, 2018 3:47 AM

I liked the first season of House of Cards but didn’t bother watching it after season two. So many tv shows are like this. They should be restricted to one season, one shoykd have seasons that consist of only 3 or 4 episodes,.

I used to watch tons of British tv on Netflix, Hulu and AMAzon prime. Then came Brit box, Acorn, PBS passport and can’t find many UK shows anymore . Fuck that. I’m not paying for yet another subscription service.

by Anonymousreply 328November 16, 2018 4:00 AM

R298, if you like the guy that played the dad on Lost in Space, you should check out a show called Black Sails. He plays a pirate who *spoiler alert* ends up being gay. The show is really good.

For any of you who like historical dramas, have you watched Turn: Washington's Spies and Hell on Wheels? They used to both be on Netflix but I'm not sure if they still are. If so, they are both great although Turn loses a lot in its final season.

by Anonymousreply 329November 16, 2018 4:02 AM

I'm sure someone mentioned it but despite the flaws I could not stop watching Homecoming

I am obsessed with Adam Ruins Everything....

by Anonymousreply 330November 16, 2018 4:10 AM

was the 2nd season of Happy Valley any good? I lost interest very quickly . Is there going to be season 3 ?

by Anonymousreply 331November 16, 2018 4:13 AM

I also found Homecoming strangely riveting. One of the best things Julia Roberts has ever done. It's very unique--with the melodramatic music and the peculiar throwback main title. If you don't like it, you will know after episode 2. If you like it, you will binge--because each episode is only 30 minutes long. Written and directed by the guy who did I Robot.

by Anonymousreply 332November 16, 2018 4:17 AM

[R331], I thought the second season was excellent. I was a little concerned early that they were going to try and cram too many plotlines in and lose the subtlety that the first season had, but there was no need to worry. It's wonderful TV with great writing and outstanding acting.

by Anonymousreply 333November 16, 2018 8:21 AM

The made for Netflix movie LIKE FATHER with Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer reminds me of the numerous Cruise threads we have here in DL. It’s about a woman dumped at the alter who goes in her honeymoon cruise (Royal Caribbean) with her estranged father. She learns the value of commitment. She learns to love again. She sleeps with Seth Rogen, the director’s husband. Her table mates are a couple of white gays from San Francisco, two black dentists and two retired Jews. She even takes a life affirming jump of a cliff into a waterfall and a smoking with her Jamaican tour guide.

In spite of all the cliches it’s a pleasant watch.

by Anonymousreply 334November 16, 2018 8:46 AM

R334 That sounds like the worst film of all time.

by Anonymousreply 335November 16, 2018 8:57 AM

Not r334, but I agree the movie is pleasant enough. A bit on the Lifetime TV movie side though.

by Anonymousreply 336November 16, 2018 10:33 AM

Was very surprised to like “Homecoming” on Amazon Prime. Julia Roberts gave her best performance so far.

by Anonymousreply 337November 16, 2018 12:37 PM

R331 - I thought the second season of Happy Valley was better than the first. Thinking of watching the series again. I'm a big fan of Sarah Lancashire.

by Anonymousreply 338November 16, 2018 3:19 PM

There MAY be a third season of Happy Valley; at least there was some talk of it awhile back. Sally Wainwright, the creator, is apparently busy with other projects, and I believe Sarah Lancashire has tried to beg off doing another because it's so emotionally and physically draining for her. I hope the stars do align, though, as I'd love a third and final season. (Better get DL fave James Norton now before he's completely overbooked.)

by Anonymousreply 339November 16, 2018 4:55 PM

I got bored with Jericho and Googled the storyline to find out what happens. I haven't found any good series that retain my interest lately. I haven't even finished watching Daredevil season 3 because it's just so.... depressing.

by Anonymousreply 340November 16, 2018 5:14 PM

Schitt’s Creek has the gay season on Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 341November 16, 2018 6:06 PM
have you watched Turn: Washington's Spies...

Highly recommended and surprisingly historically accurate (at least I learned things I didn't know about the Revolutionary war).

by Anonymousreply 342November 16, 2018 7:54 PM

ALL the seasons of Schitt's Creek are pretty gay, thanks to the delightful Dan Levy, but the 4th season is the gayest. Levy tweeted today that the SC Christmas episode will air on Dec. 18 in Canada and the 19th here on PopTV (does ANYone get that channel?). No idea when it will hit Netflix.

Also, the Schitt's Creek cast may be coming to a city near you.

by Anonymousreply 343November 16, 2018 11:15 PM

Call me Mary! but it warms my heart that feel-good Schitt's Creek is so highly regarded on DL.

by Anonymousreply 344November 16, 2018 11:25 PM

How prominent is William Macy in Schitt's Creek? He just bothers me so I've never watched it.

by Anonymousreply 345November 17, 2018 5:26 AM

I don't even think he was in it..

What season did the son come out as gay? I thought it was 4 but it had to be 3 or 2 ...

by Anonymousreply 346November 17, 2018 5:29 AM

Oops. Never mind. Mixed it up with Shameless.

by Anonymousreply 347November 17, 2018 5:31 AM

It's pretty obvious Schitt's Creek's David Rose is gay (or gay-adjacent) from the first episode, but I believe he said he was pansexual in season two.

by Anonymousreply 348November 18, 2018 10:11 PM

Thanks for the recommendation for Broadchurch. Don't usually like crime dramas, but this is excellent.

by Anonymousreply 349November 19, 2018 2:30 AM

My friend highly recommended Dr. Foster. More like a deranged soap opera that you can't stop watching.

by Anonymousreply 350November 19, 2018 3:00 AM

where is dr foster streaming ?

by Anonymousreply 351November 19, 2018 3:10 AM

Netflix

by Anonymousreply 352November 19, 2018 3:17 AM

R92, I like Mary Berry a lot, but I will take Prue Leith over her only because of the chewing. I think Mary must have dentures, and it makes me anxious for them to see her bite sideways, so carefully, every time. I didn't like the very latest season of GBBO, because it's getting a little gimmicky and the contestants are too neurotic. And none of them seem to have good enough time management skills or know how to take criticism. (Hint: when Paul tells you that your chosen combination of ingredients may be too wet, you'd better do something about it before it becomes a problem.)

by Anonymousreply 353November 19, 2018 3:32 AM

Doctor Foster, season one is great. Skip season two which just goes off the rails.

by Anonymousreply 354November 19, 2018 4:05 AM

My coworker got me hooked on the witless yet compulsively addictive Queen of the South. I just finished it and started American Horror Story: Cult today.

by Anonymousreply 355November 19, 2018 4:38 AM

Designated Survivor is pretty exciting.

by Anonymousreply 356November 19, 2018 5:48 AM

I loved Bodyguard. Great fun and very suspenseful. I also really liked Elite, and I can't believe there's been only one comment on it considering how much gay content there is and how cute the boys are.

by Anonymousreply 357November 19, 2018 6:04 AM

Doctor Foster has Jodie Comer from Killing Eve . Wonder why that isn't streaming somewhere....

I watched Killing Eve on BBC America. Jodie Comer is surprisingly good. Sandra Oh is annoying as fuck, even if she did win an award for it. I'm not sure if Killing Eve is on Netflix yet.

by Anonymousreply 359November 19, 2018 7:10 AM

R357 There is a separate thread for Elite.

by Anonymousreply 360November 19, 2018 7:16 AM

Killing Eve is on Amazon Prime (for a fee, I think).

by Anonymousreply 361November 19, 2018 7:19 PM

I'm loving Rake, a well-written and acted droll Australian take on the boozing, womanizing, borderline sleazy lawyer with a conscience. Everyone in the cast is stellar, and the writing is tight and clever. And the lead is my type of sexy.

by Anonymousreply 362November 20, 2018 3:13 AM

I finally watched Broadchurch. Very good although the ending a bit preposterous. I'm really impressed with David Tennant, everything I've seen him in, he's consistently good.

by Anonymousreply 363November 21, 2018 8:10 PM
I also really liked Elite, and I can't believe there's been only one comment on it considering how much gay content there is and how cute the boys are.

As r360 stated there is a thread about the show.

Watched the first three eps of The Kominsky Method last night. Loved it!

Michael Douglas & Alan Arkin have great chemistry. Arkin is particularly good & hes in his 90s.

Unfortunately, Lisa Edelstein plays Arkins daughter & shes as annoying & unlikeable as ever.

by Anonymousreply 365November 21, 2018 8:31 PM

If you like watching old farts with great chemistry having a grand old time, you should check out Cloudburst. It's lesbians, though, so some of you might not be interested. Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker have amazing chemistry and will make you laugh and cry. For you gay guys, there's this street hustler with a heart of gold who becomes their travel companion...

I’m home alone on Thanksgiving and really enjoying the international cooking competition, The Final Table.

Each episode has chefs from different parts of the world cooking dishes from Mexico, Spain, UK, Brazil, India, Usa, IItaly, Japan, France.

I’m watching the the USA episode now where they have have to cook a thanksgiving meal. It’s interesting to see what the chefs come up with when trying to cook something they are not familiar with.

This is way better than the dreck on the Food Network.

I am really digging Damnation. Good story and hot men.

by Anonymousreply 370November 23, 2018 2:16 AM

I plan on watching Cam it is a rare well reviewed horror movie....

by Anonymousreply 371November 24, 2018 8:21 PM

Yeah, I hated the ending of House of Cards, it was just like WTF? I just finished Haunting of Hill House and I liked the ending, made me cry. Oliver Jackson- Cohen is gonna be my new obsession.

by Anonymousreply 372November 25, 2018 2:09 AM

Anyone watched Glitch? There's a gay character in it. I'm almost done with the first season now.

by Anonymousreply 373November 25, 2018 2:35 AM

I was watching part of Damnation because of Logan Marshall-Green. Everything I've seen him in, he's pretty talented and hot. Why didn't his career take off? Is it because he is Tom Hardy's doppelgänger?

r373, I have a huge crush on Sean Keenan who plays the gay character. Season 2 is better than S1, IMO.

(Glitch spoiler)

R376 the scene where the older gay innkeeper takes his hand and kisses him was SO familiar and his reaction made sense even before I knew he was really gay as I wasn't expecting it. His expressions when Vic the Cop was basically telling him to kill himself because he was an abomination were so good.

And of course, he's hot.

I hope Season Two reveals more about what's going on. I feel like a lot of shows like this slow roll the reveals too long and it causes audience to drop off (e.g., Carnivale).

by Anonymousreply 377November 25, 2018 4:53 AM

Oh, and his eyes are strange - he seems to have very small pupils. I noticed it in a few of the face shots but figured it was just lighting. It gives him kind of an ethereal quality - not quite human.

by Anonymousreply 378November 25, 2018 4:55 AM

Logan got terrible reviews for that movie I hated with a passion Prometheus but he seems to be recovering. He was in one of the best films in recent years a The Invitation and I just rented well reviewed Upgrade he was goood I found the film uneven and didn’t understand the ending. I think he looks better without the full beard doesn’t remind me of Tom Hardy whose hard life has started showing on the outside.

by Anonymousreply 379November 25, 2018 6:38 AM
Logan got terrible reviews for that movie I hated with a passion Prometheus but he seems to be recovering.

I'll take Prometheus over Covenant. I thought he was fine in it. He's come a long way from The OC.
He was in one of the best films in recent years a The Invitation

That's on my list. I've heard good things about it. Funnily enough, it's directed by Karyn Kusama who also did Jennifer's Body and i just watched that. I wish that had done better at the box office.

by Anonymousreply 380November 25, 2018 12:57 PM

What’s great about “The Bodyguard” is that it has its quiet moments for a very long time, then suddenly everything turns to a Crazy 180, because you never know what’s going to happen next. I love the actor, he’s so dreamy…mum!

by Anonymousreply 381November 25, 2018 1:44 PM

"Nobel", a Norwegian mini-series which is, basically, a superior version of "Homeland." Top notch stuff.

by Anonymousreply 383November 25, 2018 2:14 PM

I'm glad this thread exists, because the short blurbs on the Netflix app make most of the programs sound so dull and generic. You'd think they would do a better job of actually trying to get you to watch stuff.

Yesterday I started watching the new season of MST3K but I was sleepy and dozed through some of it. Now I can't decide if I should keep going or just start over. One thing I do remember: Mac and Me is fucking weird.

I finally gave up on Glitch early in season two. Way too much wheel spinning for my taste.

Couldn't get into the first episode of River, but I may give it another try eventually.

Schitt's Creek is charming, though giving David a serious romance emphasizes what a one-note actor Dan Levy is. Dude who plays Patrick is doing the heavy lifting. I adore Alexis and that scene at the end of the last episode really got to me.

My guilty pleasure is Nailed It!

by Anonymousreply 384November 25, 2018 2:23 PM

Forgot to say, I somehow managed to watch all of Paranoid because I couldn't believe how bad it was. Great cast...surely it will get better, right? Wrong! I think the writer may hate women, because the female lead character was almost a parody of an emotional, unprofessional, needy drama queen. You know how with some mystery shows you can tell the writers don't know anything about police work and are just basing their script on what they've seen on other TV shows? I think this writer has never met a woman or had a real job, and based his characters on Datalounge threads.

by Anonymousreply 385November 25, 2018 2:40 PM

Ekaterina is quite good if you like drama about royals, even with subtitles and excessively re-used cutscenes. Learned quite a bit of Russian history along the way.

by Anonymousreply 386November 25, 2018 3:08 PM

“I’m Sorry”, a 30 minute comedy that originally aired on TruTV. It’s cute but the actress who plays the lead Frau (Andrea Savage) is super annoying. The character is supposed to be immature and she gets herself in trouble by always saying what’s on her mind...but Savage’s line deliveries are too over the top and she says everything in the same loud volume. Tom Everett Scott plays her husband and he’s great.

by Anonymousreply 387November 25, 2018 3:17 PM

The director of The Invation and Jennifer’s Body is also doing a big Nicole Kidman coming out soon. The trailer is weird all they did was mostly show Kidman being ugly. I still have high hopes for I.

I believe The Invitation is on Netflix. Word of caution if you are at a dinner party and the doors are looked from the inside not a good sign.

by Anonymousreply 388November 25, 2018 3:33 PM

Finally finished Haunting of Hill House. What a disappointment. Too much stilted dialogue and uneven acting (Michiel Huisman was particularly annoying). I kept thinking it would get better, but it was only interesting in spurts. The final episode was completely sappy and a complete betrayal of the spirit of Jackson's novel.

I used to think Mike Flanagan was talented but nothing he's done since Oculus has been much good. Perhaps he should refrain from writing.

by Anonymousreply 389November 25, 2018 3:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 393November 25, 2018 7:06 PM

Ozark. Reminds me of Breaking Bad but with an accountant.

by Anonymousreply 394November 25, 2018 9:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 398November 25, 2018 11:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 399November 25, 2018 11:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 400November 25, 2018 11:33 PM

The Kominsky Method. It's really good. Dark humor, quick wit, these two are terrific. And surprise guests keep showing up. (Won't ruin who they are.) Hollywood that is aged but it's really entertaining. Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin are terrific.

by Anonymousreply 401November 25, 2018 11:39 PM

Yeah, Free Fall was my introduction to Max Riemelt, so I was freakin giddy when I saw that he was in Sense8, and then there were the orgy sequences in Sense8 and I was speechless. Max covets his gay fan base, and it's sizeable. I just learned about Free Fall 2 today, I'm pumped!

by Anonymousreply 402November 26, 2018 12:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 403November 26, 2018 12:29 AM

I'm a few episodes in to S1 of the reboot of One Day At a Time, and, while surprisingly (or not, perhaps) square and old-school, damn, if the cast doesn't sell it and sell it well. Rita Moreno pretty much walks away with the whole show, but she's got some good competition in Justina Machado who plays her daughter Penelope (DL fave Bonnie Franklin's role). While I could do without Penelope's work subplots, the current Schneider is a vast improvement over the original, so it balances out. Per sitcom logic, their apartment is hilariously large for a sole earner on a nurse's salary (three bedrooms, plus a large alcove off the living room that's Moreno's room), never mind that the two kids go to private school. ANYway, like I said, it's old-school (it's got an annoying and unnecessary laugh track), but it's very well done.

by Anonymousreply 417November 26, 2018 5:31 PM

giving the new younger She-Ra a go.

it's not bad and i like the indepth character development, but still hate the flat boxy animation and how they de-aged everyone.

by Anonymousreply 418November 26, 2018 5:33 PM

I loved some shows that are almost never mentioned :

- Troy, fall of a city is great if you like mythology.

-The Red Tent is set in biblical times and, though sometimes a bit cheesy, I binged it and really loved it.

-Everything Sucks is a really sweet show set in the 90’s. Of course, Netflix cancelled it after season 1, but I really encourage you to give it a look.

- Manhunt : Unabomber was really good and gripping

And of course, as almost everyone else mentioned, Happy Valley and Mindhunter are absolute must-see.

by Anonymousreply 419November 26, 2018 8:19 PM

I refuse to watch the new She-Ra, I hate that Japanimation art style.

by Anonymousreply 420November 26, 2018 8:27 PM

I just watched The Mist Season one. It wasn't bad, although I fast forwarded through some of the character development nonsense. They ended on a cliffhanger and of course the series was cancelled so we'll never know what they had planned.

There's a gay guy in it but of course they make him into a sadistic patricide-committing rapist bisexual psycho.

by Anonymousreply 421November 26, 2018 8:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 484November 30, 2018 10:32 PM

Yes, r484. It's one of my favorites. I watched it a few years ago, and am all caught up. I also liked the murder mystery series with Jamie Dornan, but the second season had too little Dornan and too much Gillian Anderson, whom I don't like a lot.

by Anonymousreply 485November 30, 2018 10:36 PM

Yeah, I enjoyed The Fall as well, I like looking at Jamie D., and I kinda like Gillian. Broadchurch is good too as other people have mentioned. Season one of The Sinner is good. Also good are Bodyguard, The Crown, Godless, Narcos, House of Cards, Lost in Space is pretty decent, I just finished that last night. I liked the Haunting of Hill House as well.

by Anonymousreply 486November 30, 2018 11:44 PM

Damn, we all watch a lot of tv!

by Anonymousreply 487December 1, 2018 1:33 AM

Is there something wrong with me that I hated Homecoming? I was bored to tears and barely made it through the first episode. Nothing at all about the plot grabbed me.

by Anonymousreply 488December 1, 2018 1:37 AM

With Homecoming I think you have to get past the fiirst episode. But I can understand not liking ithe show. It's pretty strange. A good acting job by Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 489December 1, 2018 2:18 AM

Searching. John Cho has a daughter who is missing. Whole movie is him online trying to find her. Just out on DVD.

by Anonymousreply 490December 1, 2018 2:47 AM

I gave up after the first ep, too, r488.

Bodyguard ***

The Punisher ****

The Americans. ****

Luke Cage strarted strong, haven’t finished, the same with Jessica Jones

by Anonymousreply 492December 1, 2018 4:08 AM

Narcos: Mexico. I think it’s far more interesting than the first Narcos, as it largely centers on marijuana and mainly one drug lord. Michael Pena is compelling as KiKi Camerena and deserves an Emmy. There are several directors, all of which were great. It’s mostly in Spanish, so you have to read the English subtitles or know your Espanol.

I loved loved Buster Scruggs - watched it twice in two days. What a hoot.

by Anonymousreply 493December 1, 2018 5:51 AM

I'm really liking SCHOOL OF COCK in Netflix ❤

Liar liar. Pants on fire.

Little Dorrit. Derek Jacobi is outstanding, as is Alec Guiness.

by Anonymousreply 496December 1, 2018 11:02 PM

Started watching BROADCHURCH, based on the recommendations above. On episode 3 and enjoying it......

by Anonymousreply 497December 2, 2018 3:30 AM

Broadchurch series 2 is not nearly as good as the first series. Just so you won't be disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 498December 2, 2018 3:37 AM

there was season 3 also that no one talked about.

by Anonymousreply 499December 2, 2018 3:50 AM

Is Broadchurch even on Netflix?

by Anonymousreply 500December 2, 2018 3:55 AM

once again not Netflix just watched Searching and loved it . Has a great but small cast. John Cho the girl who played the daughter and DL Fave Debra Messing as a deadly serious highly competent cop. Who the bad guy is totally surprised me...

by Anonymousreply 501December 2, 2018 3:59 AM

R475 That is one of our better Aussie shows.

R501 I missed out on seeing that at the movies. Wish John Cho would get more leading roles.

by Anonymousreply 505December 3, 2018 3:21 AM

It's not on Netflix but HBO, My Brilliant Friend. This is a mini-series filmed it Italy and spoken in Italian with English subtitles. That turned me off for a while but once I watched the first 30 minutes, I was hooked. Beautiful story and beautifully filmed.

by Anonymousreply 506December 3, 2018 3:49 AM

I really enjoyed The Bodyguard, it reminded me of Spooks (MI-5 here in the USA). I won't spoil it, but anyone who enjoyed Spooks quickly learned not to get too attached to any particular character because they probably wouldn't be around too long.

by Anonymousreply 507December 3, 2018 3:58 AM

Killing Eve is now on Hulu.

by Anonymousreply 508December 3, 2018 3:49 PM

Watched BUSTER SCRUGGS - very uneven. The first two are gory-jaunty and fun (Tim Blake Nelson is a hoot), but after that, the only one that worked well was the one with Zoe Kazan and Bill Heck. The Liam Neeson piece was too long, though it had a cruel punch line (the guy playing his "meal ticket" played Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films - he's grown up into someone kinda cute). The episode with Tom Waites was also overlong, and the puchline of the final sequence can be detected a mile off.

I'm glad I didn't pay to see this in a theater - the last Cohen Brother film I saw in that setting was the godawful HAIL CAESAR.

by Anonymousreply 509December 3, 2018 7:36 PM

Being a writer and a person who works in theater, I liked the Neeson episode the best: between the counting chicken (the bottom line) and Shakespeare (art), the chicken wins every time.

by Anonymousreply 510December 3, 2018 9:07 PM

Re watching Narcos from the very beginning. I love Pablo Pascal!

by Anonymousreply 511December 3, 2018 9:21 PM

R511 So much you made up your own name for him!

by Anonymousreply 512December 3, 2018 9:39 PM

I'm two episodes in to Bodyguard and like it so far. Richard Madden seems less wooden than he usually is, although his character being so tightly wound may help with that. (Is he using his real accent? It seems Scottish by way of Yorkshire.) The, uh, steamy bits (I'm trying to be vague so as not to spoil) I could have done without, but they're par for the course in this sort of show.

by Anonymousreply 513December 4, 2018 10:14 PM

He's Scottish

by Anonymousreply 514December 4, 2018 10:18 PM

Speaking of Scots...

Finished watching BROADCHURCH. I enjoyed it enough but won't be investing in future seasons. For me the best television crime drama/procedural remains the 2nd season of THE KILLING, with Mireille Enos. You never saw the end coming, yet it was completely credible--and tragic, as well. There were some interesting twists in BROADCHURCH, but I'm not sure I completely bought the resolution, or the perpetrator's behavior. Oh, well...next is PARADE'S END with Judi Dench (on DVD).

by Anonymousreply 515December 5, 2018 2:06 AM

I'm re-watching Dexter. The trinity killer season is up and it's SO fucked up. John Lithgow is just way too good in this role. I think Season 2 was their best...even Season 1 was pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 516December 5, 2018 2:49 AM

I wish the two seasons of The Missing were put on Netflix. It was a BBC co-production with Starz. Absolutely fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 517December 5, 2018 2:51 AM

Yep, The Killing is some must see TV, no two ways about it

by Anonymousreply 518December 5, 2018 5:31 AM

Watched two episodes of Sabrina but it wasn't for me. Next up will probably be either Bodyguard or the new season of Mrs. Maisel.

by Anonymousreply 519December 5, 2018 11:47 AM

Has anyone seen Dumplin yet?? I really enjoyed it.

by Anonymousreply 520December 7, 2018 2:55 PM

Nothing to Hide.

by Anonymousreply 521December 7, 2018 9:48 PM

BODYGUARD has some good sections, but Lord the plot is so over-the-top, like a HOMELAND season squeezed into half the episodes. The finale was just ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 522December 7, 2018 10:44 PM

That's all true, but I really liked it.

Grace and Frankie Season 4

by Anonymousreply 526December 8, 2018 2:22 PM

Just started watching "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"... I'm kind of liking it, but Kiernan Shipka is a little too angsty. It's making me feel like if this was done in the 1980s, Molly Ringwald would be playing the Sabrina role.

by Anonymousreply 527December 8, 2018 2:33 PM

Shipka’s a total mediocrity buoyed by her connection to Mad Men. She wasn’t all that good on that, either.

by Anonymousreply 528December 8, 2018 2:40 PM

The Kominsky Method. Alan Arkin is spectacular.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 529December 8, 2018 5:37 PM

Watched the first episode and was not taken with it. It felt generic and I could see the punch lines from miles away. That said, Arkin did the best he could with it, and I found Nancy Travis surprisingly good, considering I only remember her from 20 years ago and was not a fan then.

by Anonymousreply 530December 8, 2018 5:56 PM
Shipka’s a total mediocrity buoyed by her connection to Mad Men. She wasn’t all that good on that, either.

Totally agree. Also, add Feud to her record of mediocrity.

by Anonymousreply 531December 8, 2018 5:56 PM

She doesn't deserve hot Harvey! He should be mine!

by Anonymousreply 532December 8, 2018 5:59 PM

Buster Scrugs.....what am I missing? Made it up to James Franco’s story and confused/bored. He looked hot though. Should I continue or pull the plug?

by Anonymousreply 533December 8, 2018 6:11 PM

R524, I love Great Interior Design Challenge. Judging by his reaction to certain male contestants, I'd go with gay.

by Anonymousreply 534December 8, 2018 7:44 PM

Kieran Shipka is a little too good at playing the annoying aspects of teenagers. Her Sabrina seems like someone who would make shallow comments about imperialism during Thanksgiving dinner.

One ought to have more sympathy for a character beset by Evil but she makes it difficult.

by Anonymousreply 535December 8, 2018 8:13 PM

Has anyone watched British comedy "In-Betweeners"?

by Anonymousreply 536December 8, 2018 8:19 PM

^ loved it. And Joe a Thomas was cute as hell. Not so much anymore.

by Anonymousreply 537December 8, 2018 9:40 PM

I've watched all the seasons of The Inbetweeners a couple of times. It's hilarious and rude, nothing more and that's fine.

by Anonymousreply 538December 8, 2018 11:23 PM

I enjoyed Bodyguard, too, but, yeah, it's pretty pulpy. There were a couple of plot twists I didn't see coming, though, and I appreciated the show for that. Six episodes was exactly the right length.

by Anonymousreply 539December 8, 2018 11:27 PM

Keep going, r 533. It's absolutely a mixed bag and a film easily forgotten, but there are pleasures to be had from it, including performances, story, cinematography, etc.

by Anonymousreply 540December 9, 2018 1:53 AM

I just finished the second season of The Deuce on HBO. I like it very much. James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Just be aware that there's a lot of loud sex and nudity in it. So I wouldn't try it out in mixed company or you'll find yourself red-faced, trying frantically to get your hand on the remote so that you can make it stop. But hey, it's about pimps and hoes and the adult film industry.

by Anonymousreply 541December 9, 2018 4:58 AM

I just started watching The Kindergarten Teacher last night. Will continue watching momentarily tonight. I hope it doesn’t get too weird or upsetting. I still haven’t fully recovered from watching An American Crime (2007) on Amazon over the Thanksgiving holiday.

by Anonymousreply 542December 9, 2018 5:01 AM

Yeah I watched the trailer, looks pretty serious. Two more good movie suggestions are Heights and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

by Anonymousreply 543December 9, 2018 6:08 AM

What I like the most about The Great Interior Design Challenge is the history of the buildings these people live in. Some of those buildings were built in the Medieval times (!) unlike here in the US. Some are former castles, schoolhouses and buildings used to be store grain. The host is an expert in Architectural history and has interesting backstories about buildings.

by Anonymousreply 544December 9, 2018 6:12 AM

The Kindergarten Teacher was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Now watching Topher Grace’s starring turn in Delirium. Not so good. But I’ll stick with it just to see what’s really going on. I have a feeling I’ve seen this plot before.

by Anonymousreply 545December 9, 2018 7:01 AM
Now watching Topher Grace’s starring turn in Delirium. Not so good. But I’ll stick with it just to see what’s really going on.

I started it, and got a half-hour in, but I'm not wanting to watch any more. Not tonight, at least. I really like him as an actor. I wonder why he doesn't get better parts. Did he piss someone important off ten years ago?

by Anonymousreply 546December 9, 2018 8:28 AM

I watched Dumplin' and it was shit.

by Anonymousreply 547December 9, 2018 8:32 AM

Topher Grace must have fuck-you money from TV. Maybe he just doesn't care enough.

I watched the first ep of the new season of Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. I think this show might be too exhausting for me. Bad enough the endless tease of showing so little of what I'm actually interested in, Madge's stand-up career. Worse is how hard the show is working to be arch and zany. It ought to feel effortless but I'm just finding it forced. Madge's spontaneous set at the French drag cabaret was more cringey than clever.

At least it gave me a palate cleanser before starting London Spy.

by Anonymousreply 548December 9, 2018 8:55 AM

Oh, and Miss Uptight from The Great Interior Design Challenge is gayer than a William Haines pool party.

by Anonymousreply 549December 9, 2018 8:57 AM
Bad enough the endless tease of showing so little of what I'm actually interested in, Madge's stand-up career.

They gave us too many "before the show" and "after the show" setups this season, from which I infer a lack of talent for writing standup. There was one other aspect of the story in which we're left to infer too much, but I no longer remember what it was. Maybe if they had dramatized it instead of just referring/implying, I'd remember it.

You didn't do that well this year, Palladinos.

by Anonymousreply 550December 9, 2018 11:31 AM
Topher Grace must have fuck-you money from TV.

He started out on third base, a rich kid from Darien. Plus [italic]That '70s Show[/italic] has never been out of syndication. As he was clearly the most talented member of the cast, I hate to see him waste himself on such schlock. Maybe it is as you surmise, that being rich made him lazy. I don't know. Chloe Sevigny, his neighbor and babysitter, certainly makes more interesting pictures than Topher.

Apparently Topher Grace took himself very seriously on TSS. I don't think he has the greatest reputation.

by Anonymousreply 555December 9, 2018 2:10 PM

The best work Topher ever did was playing the rich druggie in Traffic.

by Anonymousreply 556December 9, 2018 2:13 PM

Thanks for the spoiler, r554.

by Anonymousreply 557December 9, 2018 3:13 PM

I'm guessing none of the Mrs. Maisel writers have actually done stand-up. They certainly don't seem to know much about that world, or how to make it interesting for a TV dramedy.

by Anonymousreply 558December 9, 2018 3:14 PM

Topher Grace is just waiting to play Alan Alda in his biopic.

by Anonymousreply 559December 9, 2018 8:17 PM

Interesting, r559. I've thought of Topher as the 21st century's Alan Alda since That '70s Show came on. Except he's sexy.

by Anonymousreply 560December 9, 2018 9:05 PM

Gopher should do full frontal nudity before he gets old. THAT WOULD GRAB OUR ATTENTION.

by Anonymousreply 561December 9, 2018 9:08 PM

I find it difficult to take anyone with the name Topher seriously.

by Anonymousreply 562December 9, 2018 9:17 PM

Was Christopher Grace taken already?

by Anonymousreply 563December 9, 2018 9:19 PM

I like "Topher." My name was "almost Christopher," and I know I'd've hated "Chris."

"Christopher" is his real name, r563.

by Anonymousreply 564December 9, 2018 9:20 PM

Topher's name reminds me of that little animal that digs up lawns- gopher.

by Anonymousreply 565December 9, 2018 10:21 PM

I started watching a move called Newness with J-Kaw's ex, Nicholas Hault. it's about two people who meet on a dating app and meet up to fuck but end up falling in love. Plot twist: The girl gets bored really easily so they open up the relationship to keep things exciting.

I made it through about 30 minutes and turned it off. The girlfriend was super self-absorbed and annoying and the story took forever to get going.

by Anonymousreply 566December 9, 2018 10:32 PM

I know Topher is his real name. Sometimes names are already taken in the Screen Actors' Guild so a person has to use a variation of their name. That's why some actors use middle initials. I think Michael J. Fox is one of them.

by Anonymousreply 567December 10, 2018 4:57 AM

i liked Dumplin everyone was great including JA but thought it was strange she didn't join everyone on stage at the end....

by Anonymousreply 568December 10, 2018 5:30 AM

I think Topher was Topher before he was an actor, though.

by Anonymousreply 569December 10, 2018 7:34 AM

I haven't had Netflix for a while. Now it plays a preview of something OUT FUCKING LOUD every time you go to the site. I am going to be so done with it as soon as I watch season one of YOU and the Springsteen show. What a hateful feature.

Re: Topher Grace

I agree he seems to be a much better actor than his filmography would attest to.

He was in an excellent movie years ago called "In Good Company" with Dennis Quaid that seemed to be the ideal sort of role for him, but he seems determined to play against type.

If you're looking for something on Netflix, Collateral is very good and is only 4 one-hour episodes. UK crime/spy series

Thanks, r577. I'll put that on my list of things to watch on Netflix.

I really do mean "my list," btw. It's a Word document. I no longer go to netflix.com to add something to my list there, as I don't want to hear their (literal) noise. I'm already listening to music. Netflix's constantly-on soundtrack is just not for me.

Working my way through Mrs. Maisel -- Dear Amy Sherman-Palladino, Please write every episode yourself. has anyone seen Roma yet?

I rented The House That Jack Built with Matt Dillon as a serial killer. The movie makes me sad because Matt has lost his looks...

by Anonymousreply 592December 15, 2018 7:55 PM

Watched some of SICK NOTE with Rupert Grint, Nick Frost and (believe it or not) Don Johnson. A bit silly, but still enjoyable.

by Anonymousreply 593December 15, 2018 8:12 PM

A friend INSISTED I watch The Haunting of Hill House. I'm two episodes in -- does it get any better? Does the pace pick up? (Seems like it could have been five episodes, not 10.) I get that it's a haunted house show, but I can barely see what's going on, the cinematography is so dark. Even the daylight scenes seem to be filtered so it looks like the cast is underwater. Happy to watch Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Michiel Huisman, of course, but they're not in it much yet, especially OJ-C.

by Anonymousreply 594December 17, 2018 6:29 PM

R594 in retrospect I thought it was disappointing. Not worth the slog and we don't even get see the hotness that is OJC and Huisman.

by Anonymousreply 595December 17, 2018 7:26 PM

Watched the Christmas movie with Kurt Russell. Couldn't even get through the first hour. The acting is horrendous and the writing is awful.

by Anonymousreply 596December 17, 2018 7:54 PM

The father Abe is an ass and I'd like to see far less of him. I do like the mother Rose, she's a riot. Overall, I love Mrs. Maisel.

It's a totally different world for me. The clothes, humor, customs of the 50's are refreshing. The last thing I want to watch right now is present day. And yes it's funny. Not always but enough of it to keep me wanting more. And something tells me I'm going to end up liking Joel the most.

by Anonymousreply 597December 17, 2018 8:15 PM

I watched all of The Haunting of Hill House and I enjoyed it. Some people say that they didn't care for the ending but I liked it. It would have been worth it simply because I discovered Oliver Jackson-Cohen. That man is FINE. I watched Man in the Orange Shirt as well. Now I'm hopelessly in love with him.
