OP don't watch the Netflix movies CARGO or HOW IT ENDS.

4 hours of my life I'll never get back. Both were awful.

Just watched the latest Jim Jeffries and Liza Schelsinger comedy specials. Liza was close in quality to her others, but Jim was a step down. Both were still worth watching, but I was slightly disappointed with Jeffries.

Basically only watch the comedy stuff there as it's therapeutic. Life dishes out enough horror and drama.

Black Mirror. It’s overrated. It’s like getting a beautifully wrapped present and you open it to find a lovely wine bottle in a graceful casket. But the bottle is empty. The trappings are there - good cast, good cinematography, good direction and good production values. But the stories are just dumb or worthless.

I enjoyed Altered Carbon, but a lot of people thought it too was overrated. I've heard the second season is going to star a different lead actor, so 'meh ...'

R13, I tried to watch Altered Carbon since I wanted to see Joel Kinnaman. But, I couldn't even get through the first episode.

Altered Carbon is wonderful, you just have to (really) be into the sci-fi genre. I don't know how I feel about the recast either. I wish they got a hotter black guy; Anthony Mackie just looks goofy to me. Also has a resting bitch face, which is never hot on a man.

All 19 seasons of Midsomer Murders. Every episode.

About to finish a French TV series "Call My Agent." It is just okay. It deals with agents and actors, borderline soap opera and fun at times.

I liked Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.

Babylon Berlin is fantastic. Watch in German with subtitles; the dubbed version is terrible.

The Sinner was surprisingly good. Looking forward to S2 which should start in late August, without Mrs. Timberlake but with Bill Pullman reprising his role from S1.

I can't find anything worthwhile to watch.

Recently watched Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ‘Crashing’ (the British show, not the HBO series).

Very sad that it did not go beyond one season...but what a perfect little season. Sam and Fred are now my favorite TV gay couple of all time!

I got so bored with the selection of films on Netflix that I watched "The Princess Diaries."

As these things go, it wasn't awful, though San Francisco doesn't need another queen.

Re-watched all of Weeds and Shameless and now watching Ozark which I love. I watched the first season of Stranger Things and liked it but I could only get through the first 2 episodes of season 2, it's just the same thing I already saw in the first season. My niece suggested 13 Reason but I just couldn't get into it.

r35 I loved Fleabag...that actually made me seek out Crashing! I hope that Season 2 of Fleabag is still in the works.

i just finished binging The Sinner's first season as well. I thought it was very good, and Jessica Biel was excellent. Love me some Christopher Abbott, too. But the guy who gets stabbed in the first episode was quite the hottie.

The song that freaks her out has been in my head for the last two days, though. I really dig it and discovered its from a band called Big Black Delta. I immediately downloaded the album.

I wonder how Netflix will continue after they lose their Disney programming. Their original programming, for the most part, have little mass appeal and Netflix doesn't mass market them very well. They rely on the fact that they have enough customers already on their platform. You also have Prime and Hulu and even the network cable channels themselves who have jumped into streaming recently filling up the space for first run tv series and retro programming.

Don't get me wrong I don't think Netflix is going anywhere but sooner or later it'll just be another HBO clone rather than a one stop entertainment destination as it has become known in the last few years.

Still love White Collar and QAF, but of course, they’re old.

Catching up on Orange is the New Black. I'd lost interest, but now that I'm two seasons behind, I decided to try to finish up.

S3 of "Hinterland."

The recent season is really good, r53. I was watching, still, but not into it, and was pleasantly surprised.

Yep, actually liked this season of Orange is the New Black--fair number of deadweight characters were jettisoned--miss a couple of them, but not most. It's dark, but I appreciate that there are consequences from the previous season. Mostly they pared it down to the stronger actors.

Except Daya--always one of the weakest leads, still is.

Rea(l)ove - Japanese dating show. It’s like Battleship Royale meets Temptation Island! Each contestant has a deep, dark secret which they must reveal throughout the course of the show and there are some doozies. And the host of the show is vicious!

I’ve watched most of I am a killer. I found that by the end I was getting tired of listening to these scumbags. The show over all is OK. Don’t binge it or you will start to feel gross

La Forêt, a French crime mini-series. Not bad, in spite of the fact that one of the characters is the world's most inept policewoman.

Also, "Secret City", a really, really good Australian political/spy thriller, starring Anna Torv. Excellent.

Mossad 101 is a pretty interesting Israeli show I'm halfway through. Wasn't too sure I'd like Toast of London but it's another good Britcom.

Just finished Berlin Babylon. Great show like everybody on the prior Netflix threads said, but another number or two as strong as To Ashes To Dust would have been welcome.

LOVED the Keepers. I WISH they'd make a sequel.

Yesterday I watched "Betting on zero", which is a GREAT documentary on Bill Ackman's going after Herbalife and trying to short sell them with a billion dollars, and then having to go head to head with Icahn in a war of wills. Incredible movie.

I'm late to the party, I just started The Crown. Episode one was good, but episode two was a snooze, I could barely finish it!

I've been drifting to sleep with "I own Australia's best home."

New episodes of Death in Paradise have been added. And they are no better than the previous six seasons.

I just watched the story of Orry Kelly. I was totally entertained. I loved seeing his designs as well. I hate to admit it, but I had no idea. What a talent. Makes me want to get his book. And yes it talks about Cary Grant. Talks about a lot of things.

I just got a free preview month. First I watched Insatiable and liked it quite a bit. Then caught up on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, fabulous, stolen by a talking backpack (I'm under a dragon cloud!) Then caught up on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, still excellent. Then saw the final season of Lady Dynamite, totally brilliant. My favorite comedies have always have low ratings because the references fly over the heads of mainstream dumbos.

I've raved about BABYLON BERLIN to nearly everyone I know but no one will watch it. I did get a few people to watch CRASHING and W1A. Currently watching THE GOOD PLACE, SCHITT'S CREEK and THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW. Anyone know if GLOW will have a third season? (I was pleasantly surprised that AMERICAN VANDAL is getting a second.)

Kim's Convenience. The best comedy I've seen since Community.

Father Brown. It's horribly written. In under 50 minutes, each episode must squeeze in a murder, an investigation, a resolution, and a pointed dramatic moment for Catholic moralizing. It gets it all done by drawing on the same small cast of series regulars who are called upon to do anything and everything, regardless of their age, sex, personality, or station in life. I hope the actors are paid well. No matter what they ask Nancy Carroll to do, she is right there doing it, and looking great, no matter how far it is from the reality of a wealthy minor aristocrat. I've now gotten as far as Father Brown becoming interested in voodoo. I can't imagine what these writers will do next to keep this franchise going.

Tom Chambers is sadly gone from the series. They wasted his considerable talent. Where are the scenes of Inspector Sullivan in the shower? In the locker room? At the Kembleford Nudist Colony?

Took a whole episode of Safe to get used to British accent Michael C. Hall.

DEAD WIND

Very intense Finnish crime drama. Takes an episode or two to get going, but it really drew me in after that. I found the Finnish language distracting, but the subtitles work very well.

And this guy is one of the main characters.

I am going to start Season 2 of Ozark tonight.

R72. I' not liking the new judge on Great British Baking show. And the two people who add personality or whatever are weird. Funny though - at least when I can understand what they just quipped. Which is seldom. Those British accents are always tough for me.

Did Paul get Mary axed. I think he has a pretty good ego!

I'm still watching it though. They always have a good group of contestants and the tension is okay. Not over the top.

I couldn't get through Season One of Ozark. I don't like Bateman in dramas.

I'm watching Atypical right now. It is pretty good.

Paul did not get Mary axed. She is a LONG time BBC presenter. At the end of the BBC contract with GBBO, the producers sought more money for their hit show and they found it with another British network. Mary Berry chose not to leave the BBC. I think the two comics had simply done their time and wanted to try other opportunities.

I like Prue Leith. In every way, she's better than that dried up old Mary Berry. Feh.

Almost finished with Mossad 101. As an Iraeli show it takes a little getting used to with them speaking right to left.

Toast of London is hilarious if you get British humor. Toast is a rather lousy stage actor taking any acting work he can get.

So can anyone recommend the shows listed in the OP's linked article? Especially Gypsy, which critics hated but for some reason has a rabid gay following. Everything Sucks also looks somewhat intriguing. I remember seeing the first season of Sense 8, and thought it was just flashy imagery without a compelling narrative.

American Horror Story season 7, Cult, just premiered a few days ago. I also saw the first episode of season 4 of Black Mirror, and thought it was one of their best.

Thought the first two seasons of Versailles were really entertaining, season 3 should be showing up 'soonish ' in Netflix time. LOVE Tygh Runyon!

The Crown. Why didn't anyone say how dull this show was? And how on-the-nose the dialogue was? And how there were no attractive men in the show?

Mindhunter was genius. I just loved it.

Peaky Blinders was very good. I really liked that show as well. It has four seasons.

The In-Betweeners is HILARIOUS. I find myself re-watching episodes because they are so funny. It has three 6-episode season. None of the follow-up movies are on Netflix though.

Ripper Street was enjoyable. Sort of a Victorian Law & Order type show. Though the final episode of the series sucked.

I caught the Vietnam series from PBS this past summer (missed it when it was originally on) and it was excellent.

I liked Stranger Things, too.

Could not get into: Ozark, Fresh Meat, Residue, Green Wing, Rostered On, or the new episodes of Arrested Development.

"The Good Place" is very clever.

Fauda - about Israeli Special Forces agents hunting terrorists in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Totally intense from the very first episode. Also quite moving as well.

Seriously. It's a great show. There are 2 seasons. You will blaze right through them.

Hostages - another great Israeli drama

Murder Party and Terrifier were both recommended by someone on Youtube. While Terrifier could go down as a modern classic, Murder Party was a huge piece of shit, made even worse by the fact that you don't realize how shitty it really is until after 45 minutes, the point where I'd usually force myself to finish something I started. I just stared, mouth agape, at how it kept getting worse and worse until I l couldn't care less about what was happening onscreen. It made me really angry. There are ton of great independent horror titles on Netflix, Shudder, Prime, and elsewhere. Don't waste your time.

I really like Escape to the Continent. Up and moving to those luscious looking places is a little harder than you think. It's not easy to find and fit into your life's dream. And they all hate the cold weather of England. But some of those houses -in France especially for me - I would love to retire in.

AHS: Cult starts out shitty at first but then it gets really good towards the 3rd and 4th episode. The ending to the season!!!!! Crazy as fuck!

r98, Betty Gilpin is great. I hope this leads to more work for her. Mrs. Franco's face and nose job and voice bug me, but she's perfect in the role. Maron is also surprisingly good.

I watched 3 episodes of Crazyheads (British horror-comedy) last night, but I don't think I'm going to stick with it. It just reminded me how much I loved Orphan Black.

What was that show about Norway under the influence of Russia? There were two seasons. The actor playing the former prime minister was very attractive.

Don't miss "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret" if you like David Cross at all. I thought the 3rd season was a bit of a letdown, but you'll laugh your butt off to the first two.

Just bingewatched the first season of an animated kid's show called HIlda. Very sweet and whimsical, but also a bit spooky at times.

The Frankenstein Chronicles. I have mixed feelings. It seems well done, and I feel like I should enjoy it more than I do.

Watching Maniac w Jonah Hill, Emma Stone, Justin Theroux. I have no idea what I'm watching but I'm captivated.

Am on season two of Ozark. Really interesting, although Jason Bateman's nose looks like a dick and he's just unbelievably glib and collected through some harrowing (heroin?) stuff. But the story is interesting and I'm interested in the Ozark culture, such as it is.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Dr. Foster, a BBC drama series about a woman who finds out her husband is having an affair. I know that sounds a little ordinary/drab, but they amp the drama up through the stratosphere. 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and it won a bunch of awards. Something like the British miniseries "She Devil," but not it's realistic, not campy.

I fucking loved Dr. Foster. Horrible doctor - she needs to be struck off. I thought the new Wanderlust with Toni Colette would be in that vain, but it was pretty tepid in comparison (I already watched it on the BBC IPlayer, it will be on US Netflix later this month).

The Haunting of Hill House and it’s so fucking good!!

I'm watching a brand new thriller/horror series that came out today, Light as a Feather. It's pretty good. After this I'm going to watch Haunting of Hill House.

Tsk tsk, r126, "Light as a Feather" is a Hulu series. There should be a separate thread for Hulu, most people don't have both. Sounds like something I'd watch though, and I'm also watching and enjoying Hill House.

Just started watching 'The Increasingly Bad Decisions of Todd Margaret' and have laughed many times. Stupid, mindless entertainment, but hits the spot.

I am assuming there is a season three planned for Ozark, the way it ended. Anyone 'in the know' know? I thought the Ruth Langmore character was fascinating. Laura Linney was quite good, too. Such a sweet face, but veins filled with ice. Lots of very good acting. The Petty guy was deliciously fucked up and creepy. At times rather handsome (especially in his fishing gear) and other times, sort of ugly in a recessed-gene kind of way.

What R117 said. Holy shit. Laugh-out-loud funny.

I finished MANIAC (Emma Stone & Jonah Hill) last week -it was OK and I would recommend only if you're caught up with all the other shows on your Must See list. They just added MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS, so I'm watching them. Loved MP back in the day. I'm currently on episode two of THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE - so far, it's pretty good but nothing like the book/original movie.

When is season 3 of The Crown coming out? Any news on that? I'm going to miss Clair Foy and the rest of the original cast.

Is Schitt's Creek season 4 on there yet? I'm not re-upping my Netflix subscription until that's available.

I'm actually upset Iron Fist got canceled. Sure season 1 sucked, but season 2 was very good, and set up an amazing season 3... that we'll now never get to see. Goddammit.

R133, a third season of Ozark has just been announced.

As for The Crown it’s been announced that Season 3 will be released sometime next year. They did start shooting much later than usual (S1 and S2 started in Oct/Nov and S3 started in April, I think). I thought maybe they’d pull a Kimmy Schmidt and release half the season in December to be eligible for the SAG Awards and Golden Globes but I think they’ve decided to wait it out. I guess it makes sense since S3 has an all new cast.

The OA was excellent - it seems no one else watched it.

Wow, you guys watch a lot. I have a hard time finding the time to binge watch Light As A Feather which is good, but I expected something more like Pretty Little Liars and it's more Final Destination.

I loved all four seasons of Rita - the lead character was exactly like so many women that I have known. I liked how all the characters were flawed and completely relatable.

I’m watching a Dutch film called The Resistance Banker based on the true story of financial people in the Netherlands hiding money from the Nazis. The lead is really hot. I suspect it won’t end well.

R137: S4 of Schitts Creek launched on Netflix on Oct. 11. Catherine O'Hara and Dan Levy are still hilarious. (And Modern Family wasted Levy in a brief one-off role last week.)

His son really is gorgeous. And I like seeing Catherine and Eugene in a pro-gay show, when SCTV, though inarguably brilliant, was homophobic occasionally. And Eugene's son is the kind of queen he used to make fun of. Now he has to kiss gay butt and like it.

I'm about to start Schitt's Creek S4. It's such a delight.

Here in the UK it's a word of mouth sleeper hit with a cult following.

I loved S4 of Schitt’s Creek.

David and Patrick's relationship on Schitts Creek warms my hard, coal-black heart. They are such opposites -- David is wound tighter than a sequinned turban, and Patrick is laid back and forever gently taking the piss out of David -- and yet completely belong together. I know there's a season 5 coming (someday), and I hope there are several more seasons, although I'm not sure how long they can sustain the concept of the Rose family living in a motel.

I haven't seen anything noteworthy on Netflix in ages. For every halfway palatable show, there are 100 shitbirds. It's like a steady diet of Arby's.

That's the challenge of Netflix, overturning rock after rock to find the gems. You know they're there, you just have to find them.

And, Netflix' stock rises on record new membership numbers. I hope that gives them some ability to hold onto some of the programming that other studios are trying to keep now to start their own streaming service. I don't understand what some of these companies and networks are thinking. No one is going to buy 15 different streaming services. Most of them will just stick with the big ones. I hope the increasing membership numbers for Netflix kill some of those ideas the other networks are having of starting their own streaming services.

Season 4 of SCHITTS CREEK is now available on Netflix.

There's a new horror series that's coming out tomorrow: Haunted.

I watched Apostle with Michael Sheen last night. Gory.

I started watching something called THE RAIN. A virus wipes out nearly everyone in Denmark. Two kids survive by living in a bunker for six years, and it's their underground life that the first episode deals with. I found the kids annoying, especially the girl. At the end of the first episode they leave the bunker. I hope it gets better from here on.

I tried watching the first episode of LOST IN SPACE. Great visual FX aside, this is network TV level of writing and acting, but with better production value. Horrid.

One thing I wish Netflix would do better is indicate which shows are in a foreign language. I watch foreign films all the time but don't always want to sit and pay really close attention and there have been a few times that I started a show and then realized it was subtitled.

Did the second season of Making a Murderer start today? And, I just started watching Legends of Tomorrow. Don't usually watch the superhero stuff but the lesbian (maybe started out bi?) on there is pretty hot and I read her story line was pretty good.

I wish the UN would pass a global crimes against art decree prohibiting any further film/tv productions about WWII or in the genre of 'horror'.

Watched two episodes of Babylon Berlin and thought it was pretty stupid so gave up. However, The Kindergarten Teacher was quite good, particularly Gyllenhaal's performance.

Just discovered Schitts's Creek and I'm loving it. The perfect show to just watch a few episodes when you want to relax.

Anyone else noticed that tons and tons of the newest stuff available on Netflix is Korean and Indian? I've also noticed an uptick in the number of Christian shows. That would be fine but I also think there seems to be less and less gay and lesbian stuff and the stuff that is there has been there for a long time. It's like they've stopped adding new gay and lesbian content and gone more toward the conservative side.

I also have Roku and, while their self-made channels have been about 90% church-related forever, even the Roku Channel itself offers a lot of Christian programming but I don't think I could find one gay or lesbian offering last time I looked. Not even during June or October.

I recommend The Babysitter too. What a fun, campy 80’s nod slasher flick. I also just finished season 2 Ozark . What a great show!! Jason Bateman and Laura Linney are superb in it.

The Haunting of Hill House. One of the best horror series on tv right now. Episode 6 was creepy and amazing.

Episode 1 was okay, r216, but it wasn't great.

Daredevil, Season 3. This season has been the best. I don't think Charlie Cox gets enough credit for carrying this show (I mean, look at Iron Fist and Luke Cage). He's always been a consistently good actor and very underrated.

I just watched Episode 1 and 2 of Haunting of Hill House. I'm glad to know it gets better--what a snoozer of a start.

Yeah, I like the quality shows that have numerous mentions here, The Killing is one of my favorite series ever. I also watched The OA and am anxiously awaiting the second season, and it has been confirmed that it is coming. I agree that the second season of Stranger Things was a let down. I also like some lighter fair to add to the mix so I watch the teen dramas Insatiable, Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why and Elite. Those have some nice eye candy and gay story lines.

Rather surprised to read that people aren’t liking “Bodyguard” (haven’t watched it yet). It’s written by Jed Mercurio who writes the excellent series, “Line Of Duty” - a show I highly recommend if you can find it....unfortunately it’s not on Netflix.

I just finished The Bodyguard and I liked it. Madden was great. But Gina McKee bores me to tears with her perma open mouth expression.

OK. I just finished Bodyguard. I liked it. I thought I might not, but I do like it. Madden did a really good job. It was well done over all. I think that I have to say the strength of the series was the writing. I loved the twists and turns in the plot and trying to keep up with everyone. Very good job. The acting was solid all round, but as I think about it, as these kinds of series go, Madden's role and the roles of everyone else in the series could have been played by anyone else.

There are so many actors in the UK who could do the job, as I see it. What makes the series really good is the plot. The writing. Think of some other actor in the role and see if I'm not right. I am not disparaging Madden. He is a very good actor. I've enjoyed him in every single thing I've seen. But there was nothing unique about his character.

I will also say they sure did milk the bomb vest thing to death didn't they? And when all is revealed, and we discover who the villains are, I found it sort of anti climactic. I wish it had been more of an "Aha!" moment. Although to be fair, there were so many suspicious people wandering around they did keep you guessing til the last minute.

Watching Making of a Murderer 2– just as riveting as the first docu-series!

I thought the final villain was a genuine twist. The narrative made sure to treat the rest of them as possibilities so you could reasonably start suspecting them at some point or other.

Speaking of violent shows, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina just came out and I'm one episode in. It has that Scottish performer playing one of the main roles - I can't remember her name but she's hilarious in her comedy work. It's pretty good so far, a bit campy so it should be a hit.

Same with Vandal -- boob jokes would have been next, perhaps, and then, I don't know, farts. Still, kudos to the show's incredibly detailed milieux and, yes, the dick jokes.

No, there is no relation between JJ and Daredevil. You don't need to watch season 1 of DD to watch season 3 but it helps to know the backstory.

I'm about 5 episodes in DD Season 3 and kind of bored. Every episode is something dark and horrible. Maybe I'm just getting burned out on misery shows. That was one of the reasons I could barely get through the last season of Luke Cage - it was just TOO MUCH horribleness and human nature and speeches on human nature and horribleness etc.

I kind of like the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina so far because it's got an edge of camp to it - it's serious and there can be some horrible stuff, but not TOO serious. The characters aren't moping for 6 episodes and pondering life, the universe, and everything.

Just finished Haunting of Hill House and thought it was great, but thought the last episode just sucked. What a bummer.

Season 4 of Schitt's Creek was very funny and very sweet. Daniel Levy and Catherine O'Hara are so good. Seemed like they tied up most of the story lines though. Hope this doesn't mean that there won't be a season 5.

I watched Oculus (#36), the movie directed by Mike Flanagan who made The Haunting of Hill House. Oculus was pretty good, stars DL fave Brenton Thwaites.

I can heartily recommend 22 JULY, about the Norway massacre. It's essentially a procedural, done in documentary style, and very well-acted by a Scandinavian cast in English.

I was trying to watch "Helix" and was about 1/3 away from the first season, when last night Netflix suddenly pulled it and now only the second season is available. And it's not on Amazon Prime (except if I wanted to buy it, which I don't) or Hulu.

I watched Outlaw WTFever so I could see Chris Pine's bits. what a let down. Not his bits, but the story itself. And I love Historical dramas.

Just finished watching a movie, Once Upon a TIme in America, an old Sergio Leone movie almost 4 hours long! Robert De Niro, James Woods, Tuesday Weld looking great. It was good. A very young jennifer Connelly made her acting debut in it and Elizabeth McGovern was very good too, and she looked pretty.

Watching The Outlaw King. It's a bit slow and underwhelming. They could have used a better director. btw, Chris Pine's naked body is nice but could hardly see his peen.

There's a new season of the Great British Bake Off. It's always fun to watch them struggle with impossible projects and too little time.

Agreed. I was watching some shows when I was living in the UK for awhile, and as soon as I flew back suddenly they were "unavailable" even though I had downloaded them. I've tried using a proxy but they seem to have more sophisticated means to detect that.

Netflix UK has some great BBC shows, comedies and dramas. At my friends house we were watching an old comedy called Him&Her about a lazy working class couple in their 20s and some older BBC (crime) dramas.

When I wanted to binge the latest season of Morse, I just activated the "free trial" for Brit Box (or whatever it was) on Amazon and binged the season. The lovely thing about cancelling trial subscriptions on Amazon is that it's just a couple of clicks, you never have to deal with a real person.

OMG, r311, Once Upon A Time In America is one of my favorite movies ever! I've seen it several times but I've been revisiting it on Netflix as well. It is a stunning film, one that grows more profound with every viewing, with its heartbreaking story of male friendships (so rare in American cinema) and its fractured time-jumping narrative. It is a true classic and I can't recommend it strongly enough.

I watched the final season of House of Cards. What a waste of 8 hours of my life!

Am in the middle of THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. Some choice observations about Hollywood (with several cameos), but the film within the film is like a college thesis parody of Antonioni and other filmmakers of the period with a lot of flesh (mostly of Oja Kodar. Welles' late-in-life partner). It must have been a labor of love to assemble the footage into something resembling coherent narrative.

I liked the first season of House of Cards but didn’t bother watching it after season two. So many tv shows are like this. They should be restricted to one season, one shoykd have seasons that consist of only 3 or 4 episodes,.

I used to watch tons of British tv on Netflix, Hulu and AMAzon prime. Then came Brit box, Acorn, PBS passport and can’t find many UK shows anymore . Fuck that. I’m not paying for yet another subscription service.

For any of you who like historical dramas, have you watched Turn: Washington's Spies and Hell on Wheels? They used to both be on Netflix but I'm not sure if they still are. If so, they are both great although Turn loses a lot in its final season.

I also found Homecoming strangely riveting. One of the best things Julia Roberts has ever done. It's very unique--with the melodramatic music and the peculiar throwback main title. If you don't like it, you will know after episode 2. If you like it, you will binge--because each episode is only 30 minutes long. Written and directed by the guy who did I Robot.

[R331], I thought the second season was excellent. I was a little concerned early that they were going to try and cram too many plotlines in and lose the subtlety that the first season had, but there was no need to worry. It's wonderful TV with great writing and outstanding acting.

The made for Netflix movie LIKE FATHER with Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer reminds me of the numerous Cruise threads we have here in DL. It’s about a woman dumped at the alter who goes in her honeymoon cruise (Royal Caribbean) with her estranged father. She learns the value of commitment. She learns to love again. She sleeps with Seth Rogen, the director’s husband. Her table mates are a couple of white gays from San Francisco, two black dentists and two retired Jews. She even takes a life affirming jump of a cliff into a waterfall and a smoking with her Jamaican tour guide.

In spite of all the cliches it’s a pleasant watch.

There MAY be a third season of Happy Valley; at least there was some talk of it awhile back. Sally Wainwright, the creator, is apparently busy with other projects, and I believe Sarah Lancashire has tried to beg off doing another because it's so emotionally and physically draining for her. I hope the stars do align, though, as I'd love a third and final season. (Better get DL fave James Norton now before he's completely overbooked.)

I got bored with Jericho and Googled the storyline to find out what happens. I haven't found any good series that retain my interest lately. I haven't even finished watching Daredevil season 3 because it's just so.... depressing.

I think Mary must have dentures, and it makes me anxious for them to see her bite sideways, so carefully, every time. I didn't like the very latest season of GBBO, because it's getting a little gimmicky and the contestants are too neurotic. And none of them seem to have good enough time management skills or know how to take criticism. (Hint: when Paul tells you that your chosen combination of ingredients may be too wet, you'd better do something about it before it becomes a problem.)

Doctor Foster, season one is great. Skip season two which just goes off the rails.

My coworker got me hooked on the witless yet compulsively addictive Queen of the South. I just finished it and started American Horror Story: Cult today.

Designated Survivor is pretty exciting.

I loved Bodyguard. Great fun and very suspenseful. I also really liked Elite, and I can't believe there's been only one comment on it considering how much gay content there is and how cute the boys are.

I'm loving Rake, a well-written and acted droll Australian take on the boozing, womanizing, borderline sleazy lawyer with a conscience. Everyone in the cast is stellar, and the writing is tight and clever. And the lead is my type of sexy.

I finally watched Broadchurch. Very good although the ending a bit preposterous. I'm really impressed with David Tennant, everything I've seen him in, he's consistently good.

I’m home alone on Thanksgiving and really enjoying the international cooking competition, The Final Table.

Each episode has chefs from different parts of the world cooking dishes from Mexico, Spain, UK, Brazil, India, Usa, IItaly, Japan, France.

I’m watching the the USA episode now where they have have to cook a thanksgiving meal. It’s interesting to see what the chefs come up with when trying to cook something they are not familiar with.

This is way better than the dreck on the Food Network.

I am really digging Damnation. Good story and hot men.

Yeah, I hated the ending of House of Cards, it was just like WTF? I just finished Haunting of Hill House and I liked the ending, made me cry. Oliver Jackson- Cohen is gonna be my new obsession.

R376 the scene where the older gay innkeeper takes his hand and kisses him was SO familiar and his reaction made sense even before I knew he was really gay as I wasn't expecting it. His expressions when Vic the Cop was basically telling him to kill himself because he was an abomination were so good.

And of course, he's hot.

I hope Season Two reveals more about what's going on. I feel like a lot of shows like this slow roll the reveals too long and it causes audience to drop off (e.g., Carnivale).

Oh, and his eyes are strange - he seems to have very small pupils. I noticed it in a few of the face shots but figured it was just lighting. It gives him kind of an ethereal quality - not quite human.

Logan got terrible reviews for that movie I hated with a passion Prometheus but he seems to be recovering. He was in one of the best films in recent years a The Invitation and I just rented well reviewed Upgrade he was goood I found the film uneven and didn’t understand the ending. I think he looks better without the full beard doesn’t remind me of Tom Hardy whose hard life has started showing on the outside.

What’s great about “The Bodyguard” is that it has its quiet moments for a very long time, then suddenly everything turns to a Crazy 180, because you never know what’s going to happen next. I love the actor, he’s so dreamy…mum!

I'm glad this thread exists, because the short blurbs on the Netflix app make most of the programs sound so dull and generic. You'd think they would do a better job of actually trying to get you to watch stuff.

Yesterday I started watching the new season of MST3K but I was sleepy and dozed through some of it. Now I can't decide if I should keep going or just start over. One thing I do remember: Mac and Me is fucking weird.

I finally gave up on Glitch early in season two. Way too much wheel spinning for my taste.

Couldn't get into the first episode of River, but I may give it another try eventually.

Schitt's Creek is charming, though giving David a serious romance emphasizes what a one-note actor Dan Levy is. Dude who plays Patrick is doing the heavy lifting. I adore Alexis and that scene at the end of the last episode really got to me.

Forgot to say, I somehow managed to watch all of Paranoid because I couldn't believe how bad it was. Great cast...surely it will get better, right? Wrong! I think the writer may hate women, because the female lead character was almost a parody of an emotional, unprofessional, needy drama queen. You know how with some mystery shows you can tell the writers don't know anything about police work and are just basing their script on what they've seen on other TV shows? I think this writer has never met a woman or had a real job, and based his characters on Datalounge threads.

Ekaterina is quite good if you like drama about royals, even with subtitles and excessively re-used cutscenes. Learned quite a bit of Russian history along the way.

“I’m Sorry”, a 30 minute comedy that originally aired on TruTV. It’s cute but the actress who plays the lead Frau (Andrea Savage) is super annoying. The character is supposed to be immature and she gets herself in trouble by always saying what’s on her mind...but Savage’s line deliveries are too over the top and she says everything in the same loud volume. Tom Everett Scott plays her husband and he’s great.

The director of The Invation and Jennifer’s Body is also doing a big Nicole Kidman coming out soon. The trailer is weird all they did was mostly show Kidman being ugly. I still have high hopes for I.

I believe The Invitation is on Netflix. Word of caution if you are at a dinner party and the doors are looked from the inside not a good sign.

Finally finished Haunting of Hill House. What a disappointment. Too much stilted dialogue and uneven acting (Michiel Huisman was particularly annoying). I kept thinking it would get better, but it was only interesting in spurts. The final episode was completely sappy and a complete betrayal of the spirit of Jackson's novel.

I used to think Mike Flanagan was talented but nothing he's done since Oculus has been much good. Perhaps he should refrain from writing.

Britcom Green Wing is laugh out loud funny. Especially the Scottish Sue White character.

I'm a few episodes in to S1 of the reboot of One Day At a Time, and, while surprisingly (or not, perhaps) square and old-school, damn, if the cast doesn't sell it and sell it well. Rita Moreno pretty much walks away with the whole show, but she's got some good competition in Justina Machado who plays her daughter Penelope (DL fave Bonnie Franklin's role). While I could do without Penelope's work subplots, the current Schneider is a vast improvement over the original, so it balances out. Per sitcom logic, their apartment is hilariously large for a sole earner on a nurse's salary (three bedrooms, plus a large alcove off the living room that's Moreno's room), never mind that the two kids go to private school. ANYway, like I said, it's old-school (it's got an annoying and unnecessary laugh track), but it's very well done.

it's not bad and i like the indepth character development, but still hate the flat boxy animation and how they de-aged everyone.

I loved some shows that are almost never mentioned :

- Troy, fall of a city is great if you like mythology.

-The Red Tent is set in biblical times and, though sometimes a bit cheesy, I binged it and really loved it.

-Everything Sucks is a really sweet show set in the 90’s. Of course, Netflix cancelled it after season 1, but I really encourage you to give it a look.

- Manhunt : Unabomber was really good and gripping

And of course, as almost everyone else mentioned, Happy Valley and Mindhunter are absolute must-see.

Yeah, I enjoyed The Fall as well, I like looking at Jamie D., and I kinda like Gillian. Broadchurch is good too as other people have mentioned. Season one of The Sinner is good. Also good are Bodyguard, The Crown, Godless, Narcos, House of Cards, Lost in Space is pretty decent, I just finished that last night. I liked the Haunting of Hill House as well.

Narcos: Mexico. I think it’s far more interesting than the first Narcos, as it largely centers on marijuana and mainly one drug lord. Michael Pena is compelling as KiKi Camerena and deserves an Emmy. There are several directors, all of which were great. It’s mostly in Spanish, so you have to read the English subtitles or know your Espanol.

I loved loved Buster Scruggs - watched it twice in two days. What a hoot.

I am watching May The Devil Take You. It’s like Evil Dead on steroids.

It's not on Netflix but HBO, My Brilliant Friend. This is a mini-series filmed it Italy and spoken in Italian with English subtitles. That turned me off for a while but once I watched the first 30 minutes, I was hooked. Beautiful story and beautifully filmed.

I really enjoyed The Bodyguard, it reminded me of Spooks (MI-5 here in the USA). I won't spoil it, but anyone who enjoyed Spooks quickly learned not to get too attached to any particular character because they probably wouldn't be around too long.

Killing Eve is now on Hulu.

Watched BUSTER SCRUGGS - very uneven. The first two are gory-jaunty and fun (Tim Blake Nelson is a hoot), but after that, the only one that worked well was the one with Zoe Kazan and Bill Heck. The Liam Neeson piece was too long, though it had a cruel punch line (the guy playing his "meal ticket" played Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films - he's grown up into someone kinda cute). The episode with Tom Waites was also overlong, and the puchline of the final sequence can be detected a mile off.

I'm glad I didn't pay to see this in a theater - the last Cohen Brother film I saw in that setting was the godawful HAIL CAESAR.

Being a writer and a person who works in theater, I liked the Neeson episode the best: between the counting chicken (the bottom line) and Shakespeare (art), the chicken wins every time.

Re watching Narcos from the very beginning. I love Pablo Pascal!

I'm two episodes in to Bodyguard and like it so far. Richard Madden seems less wooden than he usually is, although his character being so tightly wound may help with that. (Is he using his real accent? It seems Scottish by way of Yorkshire.) The, uh, steamy bits (I'm trying to be vague so as not to spoil) I could have done without, but they're par for the course in this sort of show.

Finished watching BROADCHURCH. I enjoyed it enough but won't be investing in future seasons. For me the best television crime drama/procedural remains the 2nd season of THE KILLING, with Mireille Enos. You never saw the end coming, yet it was completely credible--and tragic, as well. There were some interesting twists in BROADCHURCH, but I'm not sure I completely bought the resolution, or the perpetrator's behavior. Oh, well...next is PARADE'S END with Judi Dench (on DVD).

I'm re-watching Dexter. The trinity killer season is up and it's SO fucked up. John Lithgow is just way too good in this role. I think Season 2 was their best...even Season 1 was pretty good.

I wish the two seasons of The Missing were put on Netflix. It was a BBC co-production with Starz. Absolutely fantastic.

BODYGUARD has some good sections, but Lord the plot is so over-the-top, like a HOMELAND season squeezed into half the episodes. The finale was just ridiculous.

That's all true, but I really liked it.

I enjoy watching The Great Interior Design Challenge. Amateur interior decorators in England. I can't tell whether the male judge is gay or just English.

I binged Bodyguard and you weren't kidding about the preposterous plot. It was compelling viewing though, if only for my new TV boyfriend Richard Madden.

Grace and Frankie Season 4

Just started watching "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"... I'm kind of liking it, but Kiernan Shipka is a little too angsty. It's making me feel like if this was done in the 1980s, Molly Ringwald would be playing the Sabrina role.

Shipka’s a total mediocrity buoyed by her connection to Mad Men. She wasn’t all that good on that, either.

The Kominsky Method. Alan Arkin is spectacular.

Watched the first episode and was not taken with it. It felt generic and I could see the punch lines from miles away. That said, Arkin did the best he could with it, and I found Nancy Travis surprisingly good, considering I only remember her from 20 years ago and was not a fan then.

Kieran Shipka is a little too good at playing the annoying aspects of teenagers. Her Sabrina seems like someone who would make shallow comments about imperialism during Thanksgiving dinner.

One ought to have more sympathy for a character beset by Evil but she makes it difficult.

I've watched all the seasons of The Inbetweeners a couple of times. It's hilarious and rude, nothing more and that's fine.

I enjoyed Bodyguard, too, but, yeah, it's pretty pulpy. There were a couple of plot twists I didn't see coming, though, and I appreciated the show for that. Six episodes was exactly the right length.

Keep going, r 533. It's absolutely a mixed bag and a film easily forgotten, but there are pleasures to be had from it, including performances, story, cinematography, etc.

I just finished the second season of The Deuce on HBO. I like it very much. James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Just be aware that there's a lot of loud sex and nudity in it. So I wouldn't try it out in mixed company or you'll find yourself red-faced, trying frantically to get your hand on the remote so that you can make it stop. But hey, it's about pimps and hoes and the adult film industry.

I just started watching The Kindergarten Teacher last night. Will continue watching momentarily tonight. I hope it doesn’t get too weird or upsetting. I still haven’t fully recovered from watching An American Crime (2007) on Amazon over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Yeah I watched the trailer, looks pretty serious. Two more good movie suggestions are Heights and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

What I like the most about The Great Interior Design Challenge is the history of the buildings these people live in. Some of those buildings were built in the Medieval times (!) unlike here in the US. Some are former castles, schoolhouses and buildings used to be store grain. The host is an expert in Architectural history and has interesting backstories about buildings.

The Kindergarten Teacher was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Now watching Topher Grace’s starring turn in Delirium. Not so good. But I’ll stick with it just to see what’s really going on. I have a feeling I’ve seen this plot before.

I watched the first ep of the new season of Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. I think this show might be too exhausting for me. Bad enough the endless tease of showing so little of what I'm actually interested in, Madge's stand-up career. Worse is how hard the show is working to be arch and zany. It ought to feel effortless but I'm just finding it forced. Madge's spontaneous set at the French drag cabaret was more cringey than clever.

At least it gave me a palate cleanser before starting London Spy.

Oh, and Miss Uptight from The Great Interior Design Challenge is gayer than a William Haines pool party.

They gave us too many "before the show" and "after the show" setups this season, from which I infer a lack of talent for writing standup. There was one other aspect of the story in which we're left to infer too much, but I no longer remember what it was. Maybe if they had dramatized it instead of just referring/implying, I'd remember it.

I'm guessing none of the Mrs. Maisel writers have actually done stand-up. They certainly don't seem to know much about that world, or how to make it interesting for a TV dramedy.

I started watching a move called Newness with J-Kaw's ex, Nicholas Hault. it's about two people who meet on a dating app and meet up to fuck but end up falling in love. Plot twist: The girl gets bored really easily so they open up the relationship to keep things exciting.

I made it through about 30 minutes and turned it off. The girlfriend was super self-absorbed and annoying and the story took forever to get going.

I know Topher is his real name. Sometimes names are already taken in the Screen Actors' Guild so a person has to use a variation of their name. That's why some actors use middle initials. I think Michael J. Fox is one of them.

i liked Dumplin everyone was great including JA but thought it was strange she didn't join everyone on stage at the end....

I think Topher was Topher before he was an actor, though.

I haven't had Netflix for a while. Now it plays a preview of something OUT FUCKING LOUD every time you go to the site. I am going to be so done with it as soon as I watch season one of YOU and the Springsteen show. What a hateful feature.

I agree he seems to be a much better actor than his filmography would attest to.

He was in an excellent movie years ago called "In Good Company" with Dennis Quaid that seemed to be the ideal sort of role for him, but he seems determined to play against type.

Working my way through Mrs. Maisel -- Dear Amy Sherman-Palladino, Please write every episode yourself. I can always tell within 10 minutes when your husband wrote the episode; it just doesn't have the same snap. I've been saying this since Gilmore Girls was on. But thanks for adding Zachary Levi to the cast. I'll ignore some wonky characterizations and just look at the sets and costumes.

Just watched the first episode of MRS. MAISEL, season 2. Way too frenetic (the scene in the Paris drag club became ridiculous), and the father comes off like a total asshole (which he kinda is). I wanted to text Palladino and say "Settle down, dear."

Speaking of Topher Grace, he was very good as David Duke in BLACK KKKLANSMAN.

Agreed, the DIY experiment was just okay. I was freaking out when that dude was using the saw without safety gloves. It was nice to see Sylvia Weinstock again, and the returning contestants.

I rented The House That Jack Built with Matt Dillon as a serial killer. The movie makes me sad because Matt has lost his looks...

Watched some of SICK NOTE with Rupert Grint, Nick Frost and (believe it or not) Don Johnson. A bit silly, but still enjoyable.

A friend INSISTED I watch The Haunting of Hill House. I'm two episodes in -- does it get any better? Does the pace pick up? (Seems like it could have been five episodes, not 10.) I get that it's a haunted house show, but I can barely see what's going on, the cinematography is so dark. Even the daylight scenes seem to be filtered so it looks like the cast is underwater. Happy to watch Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Michiel Huisman, of course, but they're not in it much yet, especially OJ-C.

R594 in retrospect I thought it was disappointing. Not worth the slog and we don't even get see the hotness that is OJC and Huisman.

Watched the Christmas movie with Kurt Russell. Couldn't even get through the first hour. The acting is horrendous and the writing is awful.

The father Abe is an ass and I'd like to see far less of him. I do like the mother Rose, she's a riot. Overall, I love Mrs. Maisel.

It's a totally different world for me. The clothes, humor, customs of the 50's are refreshing. The last thing I want to watch right now is present day. And yes it's funny. Not always but enough of it to keep me wanting more. And something tells me I'm going to end up liking Joel the most.

It would have been worth it simply because I discovered Oliver Jackson-Cohen. That man is FINE. I watched Man in the Orange Shirt as well. Now I'm hopelessly in love with him.
