Rolling Stone publishes the pre-obituary
Fascinating read. The writer has no sympathy for Depp and neither do I. He doesn't seem like an overtly terrible person, just a man child surrounded by yes men. He's spoiled and refuses to take accountability for his own life or the dozens of people he supports financially. This story could end very poorly.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 21, 2018 4:34 PM |
He'd better thank his lucky stars he has the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise, and use the opportunity to show that he can be trusted to show up and do a good job.
Betcha he won't, he'll piss away the opportunity for a comeback the way he's pissed away everything else.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 21, 2018 4:45 PM |
That drawing is actually flattering. He wishes he looked that good.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 21, 2018 4:48 PM |
He reminds me of a couple of my GenX relatives. They're not bad people, but they still insist they're fucking cool and badass even if they're bald, bloated, and incapable of fixing the messes in their lives.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 21, 2018 5:00 PM |
He's totally batshit at this point. Hunter Thompson and Brando were the 'only people who understand me'. His lawyer stays up all night with him, drinking and drugging, and has a special dedicated phone line installed in his own home so Depp can reach him to blab, 24/7. Insane. $650 million gone and down the drain.
His family are a bunch of leeches too. He won't control them either.
This article would be comical if it were a screenplay, but its real life.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 21, 2018 5:14 PM |
The article is tragically sad. He’s a walking dead man surrounded by leeches. Many movies will be made about it after his death.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 21, 2018 5:15 PM |
[quote]"My son had to hear about how his old man lost all his money from kids at school, that's not right," says Depp. He rubs his eyes with his tobacco-stained hands. He says one of the proudest moments of his life was when Jack said he'd started a band and Depp asked what they were called.
[quote]"The kid says ‘Clown Boner.' " Depp smiles proudly. "We don't need a paternity test. That's my kid."
That sums it all up right there.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 21, 2018 5:24 PM |
I can't even work up the snark. Hasn't he got even one percent of self awareness left? That man aint right in the head and has probably never been. When everybody in your daily life is a paid ponce, time to recalibrate. I'm glad I wasn't a personal fan of his more than "that film is good/not". One thing for sure, Kate Moss knows how to hold on to her coins, despite "lifestyle". And she has genuine friends who aren't afraid of opprobrium if they call her out on any sad sack behaviour. Who'd have thought it, eh?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 21, 2018 5:33 PM |
Johnny Depp was once considered The Coolest Man in the World. Tragic.

If he's so broke, why the fuck is he renting a mansion in London, and have as much support staff on the payroll as he does. Can't he cook his own fucking meals?!? I never really liked him -- I thought just dull suburban dads thought he was cool -- and I have absolutely no sympathy for him. He has not ever shown he is worthy of it.

by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 21, 2018 6:04 PM |
I agree with r1. He's the most overrated actor, and has been using/addicted to drugs and alcohol for decades. I am surprised he is still alive, and he loves to come off as though he's basically royalty in Europe when he's just a broke actor who has never had any self control, been told no, and should be thanking his lucky stars he's made it that far on something since it was not talent or acting ability.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 21, 2018 6:10 PM |

No, R16, Hollywood gave helped him to develop his talent for acting and gave him primo roles with which to show it off, and gave him hundreds of millions of dollars for doing so, and kept giving him roles even after he had years and years of flops. Hollywood has been extraordinarily kind to him, even indulgent!
It's not Hollywood's fault that the man threw away his money and developed terrible work habits, Depp did that to himself. There's nobody to blame for his sad downfall but Depp himself.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 21, 2018 6:18 PM |
The problem is, he aimed to be "tragic and poetic" years ago...it was cool and romantic then. He looked great, so he could get away w it. Somewhere, he actually started believing his own hype. And now, the poetry is all gone.

[Quote] We are all punch-drunk in each other's company, but some are just plain drunk. Maybe it is the booze and hash, but Depp seems happy to just have someone to hang out with, even though we have exhausted the ins and outs of his case. Someone mentions they can't stand Oasis. This is enough of an opening for Depp to grab an acoustic guitar and spend 20 minutes tuning it, before squawking out a few notes of "Wonderwall." My head pounds, but you can tell the guitar brings him comfort, taking him back to his younger days when he was a male ingénue and not a punchline: bankrupt, isolated and one more mistake away from being blackballed from his industry.
Eh, this passage made me root for JD. The writer thinks that JD will be blackballed because of his drunken ways even though he's already part of the 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise.
Never a JD fan and never thought he was cute except for 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' but I'm rooting for him now.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 21, 2018 7:33 PM |
R32, if he continues to be drunk and drugged like this he will be blacklisted cause nobody will insure him and actors need insurance.

Depp needs to grow up regarding his work and his money. If he wants to act like a 15 year old in other areas of his life, so be it. But the conundrum is, it’s difficult, at best, to get your shit together when you’re drunk and high. I’ve tried it many times, and let me assure you, that there is an invisible line that is crossed (or in this case, snorted), that just makes it impossible to party, and keep track of your expenses, cash, and no way are you able to work at your optimal capacity, either, even if your work requires that you are only needed for 3 to 6 months out of the year.
Look, I love drinking. It makes me numb out shit that I just find to be too overwhelming. I understand. And it feels better than facing shit head on, in more ways than one. But I just cannot justify it. I lose money, work opportunities, my health goes downhill. Fuck no. No fucking way.
I’m not going to lose my life, and everything I worked for, because I’m a fucking boozehound. I know I’ll be dead soon enough. No one gets out alive. That’s OK. It will be on my terms, not on the terms of my addictions. And no way am I ending up on the streets either. Being broke is rough.
Get your shit together, Johnny. That cannon has your name on it too, but it doesn’t have to be shot with you in it, anytime soon.

It’s about alcoholism and addiction. He has both, as do I. But I choose not to drink or use, so that I can function properly in the society in which I live. I have no choice, other than to succumb to it, and die and early, grotesque death.
Unless we die, or find a way to live on another planet, literally, we all must do the same fucking thing. Day in, day out. Breathe, eat, sleep, piss, and shit. Unless we inherit insane amounts of money, we must work. We all pay taxes. This is the way the ball bounces. Either you’re in, or you’re out, on the streets out, or dead. Tell me this isn’t true.
I don’t give a fuck what you think, r60. I understand why this shit happens, and I also have accepted that I cannot live a decent life with a bottle glued to my mouth, and a straw stuck in my nose.

Although I cannot completely decipher what the anecdote about Weinstein's wife meant, I am almost certain the Depp was complimenting Georgina and he was expressing shock that HW could ever get a woman of that level.

by Anonymous | reply 122 | June 22, 2018 3:26 PM |
He’s not kind with his family, he’s just lazily throws credit cards at them. He has no one to blame but himself when his sister spent $7 million and he didn’t sell the French chateau because his daughter threw a tantrum. That’s not kindness, that’s lack of attention and behaviour typical of a drug addiction.

I remember that Letterman show when Dave was asking him about the backlash he got after his comments about George W. Bush...he responded by saying when things got to be too much, he would get on his yacht and sail to his island...all right now, he has the means to get away from stressful situations, but that didn't sound right to me. Maybe I was jealous.

I could never understand the furor over him. Bland looks, nothing body, blank expression. Always thought he was the smartest and coolest guy in the room, so everything he does is genius. Not bad in several roles, including Ed Wood but way overrated in many others.

He's a boring person, boring and one dimensional overrated actor, and your typical Hollywood actor who got started young, became rich, wasted lots of money, and let fame and his ego go to his head.
I do remember reading here on datalounge that some queens here claimed that Depp is gay, closeted, and likes black men who he pays for sex and being discreet, and is a bottom. Is there any truth to this?
by Anonymous | reply 130 | June 22, 2018 5:22 PM |
R130, I heard he hasn’t had sex in many, many years. Allegedly, he cannot get it up, and just gave up. Never had sex with Amber, at least not sexual intercourse. I have no idea if this is true, but this is what I’ve heard.
Also, I’ve heard that he does pay, but to watch others have sex. He sits in the room, drinking and smoking, while watching others fuck. Weird, I know, but this is Depp we’re discussing, so it’s not totally out there.
I’ve known several men who got very involved in swinging, as a result of becoming impotent. Contrary to popular belief, ED meds do not work on everyone, ESPECIALLY if they do drugs, drink, and smoke. Anyhow, it’s not that uncommon for men to get into swinging after ED. At least they get to participate sexually, in one way or another, and I’d assume pegging and bottoming for other men wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

[quote]My favorite Depp film is probably one of his weakest, THE NINTH GATE... it's totally entertaining to me.
It's not a weak film at all. I wonder why you'd even think it is? And I agree with you that it's probably my favorite from Johnny Depp. I remember seeing it in a theater with my friends and noticing I'm starting to not find Depp that hot anymore. Although obviously he still was quite a hottie, at least compared to his current state. Obviously his hotness doesn't really mean anything in the film. His role could've been played by other actors easily.
[quote][R126], that's Roman Polanski's movie.
Yes it is, and that's why the film is close to a masterpiece. I refused to watch his movies for a long time after finding out him *truly* being into pre-teen and early teens girls. Then one night The Ghost Writer was on the tv, and I started watching it. It's a political thriller starring Ewan McGregor, playing a ghostwriter writing memoirs for a character (Pierce Brosnan) based very loosely on Tony Blair. Now, that film is practically a Hitchcockian perfection, and I loved it.
Polanski did have a traumatizing childhood as a Jew kid in Poland during the Nazi occupation. Both of his parents were killed in concentration camps, and Roman had to live under a false identity in a Catholic family or families. From Wikipedia: "As he roamed the countryside trying to survive in a Poland now occupied by German troops, he witnessed many horrors, such as being "forced to take part in a cruel and sadistic game in which German soldiers took shots at him for target practice."" He was born in 1933, so he was a small kid during all this. He was only 6 when he was expelled from school for being Jewish. No wonder the war messed him up but then again not all Jews who survived the Nazis ended up becoming hebephiles or ephebophiles, which Polanski most probably is. His traumatic past is probably one of the main reasons he's not considered to be a criminal in many European countries.
I continue to have conflicted feelings about Polanski. It's impossible to forget he's into young girls but at the same time you can't forget how messed up his childhood was. Is that enough of an explanation to justify watching his films? Probably not.

I agree with R132, I have bisexual and gay male friends who are vouyers and they enjoy watching their husband/partner have sex with other people, or filming themselves and their partner having sex with others. It is not my thing but it's all done with consenting adults, it is not put online, and not the type with the shady hidden cameras like you would see on Xtube and amateur porn sites where the person is being filmed having sex or nude without their consent and then it goes online.

I can't believe a man in his 50's would still try to emulate someone like Keith Richards. He should have grown out of that phase by the age of 30. Keith Richards has been married to Patti Hansen for decades and raised two daughters with her. By all accounts, they lead a pretty normal homelife, as much as you can when you're one of the biggest rock stars in the world. She suffered from bladder cancer some years ago and they weathered it together.
Depp is just an asshole who's never thought of anyone save for himself.

Depp was always this person but got away with it when he was young and hot. Not so easy when you get old. He's not a bad guy, just dealing with lots of trauma and deprivation from his childhood and formative years. Sometimes it seems that ONLY scarred people get into showbusiness. He at least has the decency to take care of his kids, and want to provide for his extended family. I hope he can pull himself together.

Never understood his appeal, he seemed like a try hard moron and on to of it was a shit actor.

I find him absolutely off putting.

Richards would be dead by now if he was still up to his old antics. He obviously got his shit together, and moved on.
Johnny can do the same. Nothing wrong with straightening shit out, and enjoying the last 20 to 40 years of your life.
I’d love to see Johnny get his life together, and win an Academy Award, and say a big FUCK U to everyone who left him for dead. If anyone could pull it off, he could.
He’d have no trouble finding a partner who actually loves him, to settle down with. But no one wants to take care of a drunken mess. It’s just too much work.
I’m still rooting for him.

by Anonymous | reply 163 | June 23, 2018 9:46 PM |
Yeah, Keith Richards married Patti Hansen when he was 40, so Richards had stopped being Keith Richards by then, settled down (sort of) and sobered up (sort of). 50-year-old Johnny needs to quit modeling himself on someone who was misbehaving in his 20s/30s.

This is probably me being overly empathic, but as embarrassing as that interview was, I actually came away pitying him. I think he's very depressed and isolated. That doesn't excuse him being an asshole, but it is a sad existence.
Funny really, that Keanu has held on to his career and looks in spite of not having quite as much talent as Depp. All the edgy young indie actors used to list Depp as an influence...now they probably just cringe.

The same R86. In my teens I could stay up all night. I wasn't allowed to, but I could. When I was in my early 20s, it was easy to hang out at a friend's place until 11pm or midnight before we went out and I'd be in bed between 4am and 6am. 7am? I had been up way too late. FF about 12 years and I have younger siblings visiting. We go out to dinner, then drinks, come home at around 10pm and I am DONE and they're like - well, the third part of our evening is beginning! See you in the morning. A Johnny Depp kind of evening or successive evenings just feels gross. On the rare - very very rare - occasion 2am passes and I am still up talking and drinking, I feel absolutely disgusting. I remember I used to read about the occasional mid-life to senior celebrity - Susan Sarandan, say, or Alan Rickman, "talking with friends" at some place in NYC until 4am, in their sixties. I'd be - HOW CAN THEY EVEN DO THAT!!

We've had some trenchant no-punches held threads on Depp here at the DL over the years, and every one of them predicted accurately how he would play out. It is a universal truth that highly attractive young people can get away with drug abuse, alcoholism, absurd pretensions and mental illness. It all gets written off by those who want to fuck them as the behaviour of a sensitive, misunderstood rebel / artist. When they reach their mid fifties, the looks are bloated and leathery, those who want to fuck them fall away, and you are left looking at a drunk/high/depressed middle-aged asshole.

He's like those multi-millionaire lottery winners who blow it all in under 2 years. He surrounded himself with yes people and it has led him to thinking that he could continue living beyond his means, that he's a rockstar on the level of Alice Cooper and that he's some soulful auteur. R177 Sounds like the Angelina Jolie story.
I was just thinking today that sometimes the "media powers that be" deflect and spin to the point that people just don't seem to see what is right in front of their eyes.
Michael Jackson's nose was falling of his face right in front of us.
Jolie is going full Karen Carpenter on us and multiple layers of tunics and caftans can't hide it anymore.
Hollywood has been overrun by the spawn of celebrities from days gone by, and they're mostly talentless hacks.
Somehow the veil's been pulled back from Depp and it's ok for it to be open season.
I wonder why that finally happened with him, but somehow it's not kosher to publish articles about the world being on Angelina Jolie death watch.

I think the author could tell this was the end for Depp if he didn't get good psychiatric help and the author wasn't going to hide it. Either he gets help, and if he doesn't the author can't be accused of hiding the truth. Like Jolie and others, they have their fans that do want to believe what they see either their own eyes. When people talk about it after their dead they get accused of trying to make money off the dead when they can't defend themselves. So Depp must be pretty bad off the RS allowed thus article to be published.

There was a BI about the daughter a couple of years ago, that she was heavy into drugs in the modeling scene (why she is so skinny) and dating not the most reputable older men and that her father should be there helping her out (she was like 15, 16 at the time) but he was too wasted out on drugs himself. Of course, the kids might have tried to intervene to no avail.

Yeah, yeah, Depp could turn it all around, clean himself up, find someone to love him, get serious about his profession, etc., etc.
But that's just a fantasy. Depp lacks the inner resources, the strength and the imagination to ever have such a scenario play out. He'd have to become a whole other person, and that will never happen.

What, you’re not going to place any responsibility on his son, too? Only the females in his life are expected to deal with his shit?
As anyone with an addict in their family will tell you, it’s effectively impossible to make someone get help for their addiction unless they themselves want to get help. The way that usually happens is when the addict starts losing things or relationships and realizes there are negative consequences to the drug use.
Depp has already burned several bridges relationship-wise and has only spiraled farther into the abyss. His wealth and the fact that he’s still able to get cast in good roles (WHY did JK Rowling throw him such a big bone?!) means he doesn’t suffer the same consequences (job loss, unemployment, poverty, homelessness, hunger) that are often the impetus that drives other addicts into rehab.

Exactly-- White trash stoner kid from Kentucky learns 3 chords on a guitar and moves to LA to be a rock star, but winds up delivering pizza and weed to make ends meet. Nicolas Cage suggests that he should try acting, and 650 million dollars later is a broke middle aged alcoholic without much of a future.
There's only one way this story ends, with or without Nicolas Cage. If anything, the fame and the money has kept him alive and/or out of prison a few decades longer than scheduled.

This is why Hollywood keeps so many publicists in business. Without the flak feeding press word by word interviews, the celeb's essential shallowness and ignorance would be publicly displayed. Go back about 20 years when Bruce Willis and Demi Moore were everywhere. Two of the most ignorant people on the planet, but Vanity Fair would print puff pieces making them appear thoughtful just because it would sell magazines. Same wtih Tom Cruise. There's nothing to him, but for a time a cold bitch like Pat Kingsley could rule all media because people wanted to know about him.

R199, his son is the youngest child, he is still 16 I think, so of course I expect more adult people to have a talk with him about rehab. His sister, daughter and ex partner are old enough for such conversation.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | June 25, 2018 6:27 PM |
[quote]What I don't get is why his daughter, his sister, his ex do not insist on him going to rehab.
His daughter throws tantrums and gets him to buy her sofas from the Kardashian set. She has no other power over him than to get him to buy her stuff.
His sister Christi is accused to leeching off him to the tune of millions. She charged her daughter's wedding costs to Johnny, and in the interview someone quotes her as saying 'He's my brother. It's his money. So it's my money.' She deals with all the boring stuff like signing cheques that her brother is too drunk and stoned to bother with.
The ex wife tried to get him to sober up and he refused and she left him. Her work is done, it's not her role anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | June 25, 2018 6:29 PM |
Everything Ive read about Depps entire family is toxic AF. His father absent, his mother a psycho abuser, his sister seems much like mommy dearest, and his kids seem to use him as a never-empty wallet. His exs seemed fine (except for Heard), but were much younger than him, thus just as immature/uneducated and unable to help him deal with life.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | June 25, 2018 6:33 PM |
R206, then Depp is done. He is too weak willed to change himself. And too old. True there are stories of past alcoholics and drug addicts changing their ways, but they all did it when they were much younger. Robert Downey Jr. got sober and clean around 38 years old. Depp relapsed in his late 40-50s. He has no future.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | June 25, 2018 6:39 PM |
Agree completely with r202, unfortunately. This isn't a case of 'simple late life alcoholism'. This guy has serious mental health issues and needs to be put away under care for several months. Does he have anyone around who cares and can help him?
I'd say his long time agent at UTA but he dumped her too a few years ago. Anyone?

Other way around, R210. His decline started years ago, but he was still protected by the industry until his agent quit. High powered professional agents and managers and publicists do not want a stoned drunk mumbling and staggering around at professional events like Depp has been for the past few years. It makes them look bad. He was carried up the red carpet by his bodyguard at one film festival. He forgot Kenneth Branagh - the DIRECTOR's - name in a live interview for Orient Express, because he was visibly drunk. He is Norman Maine, at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | June 25, 2018 8:44 PM |

It’s impossible to force someone into rehab. Even if he had a publicist or lifelong BFF or spouse or sibling who was close to him and had nothing but his best interests at heart, they couldn’t just make a phone call and have men with butterfly nets show up and truck him out to a locked rehab facility for a year.
And even if that DID happen, he wouldn’t get sober if he didn’t want to. I have a distant relative who got drunk and high out of his mind and had a big police chase going the wrong way on the highway. He had no priors and was from a wealthy white family so his lawyers got him sentenced to 18 months at a rehab facility instead of prison. He had access to more drugs inside that place than he’d ever had before, and relapsed within two days of his release. He probably would have been better off in prison.
You’d think those high-end inpatient rehab facilities in remote rural locations would be able to keep drugs out but as long as the patients have money, they’re always going to have sellers sniffing around and bribable employees who’ll look the other way.
It’s just a matter of time before Depp kicks off. As has been observed, it’s hard to fathom why any studios are still willing to insure him on set, esp after seeing r215’s pic.

I think he really went off the rails when he hooked up with Angelina while shooting The Tourist. Two smack addicts with a history of wild behaviour making a movie together? Both their relationships started going south during filming. Pitt hates Depp now with the heat of a billion suns. Pretty sure a bunch of blind items popped up re Depp and Jolie after Depp and Paradis broke up.

What floored me about this gloriously PR-free article was the references to Depp being completely oblivious to his situation; the writer mentions that Depp basically takes no ownership of his current situation, and then later on looks entirely startled when asked a question about his money: "I pay people to do all that shit for me." I'm paraphrasing, of course, but this level of idiocy is a true revelation of how Hollywood's dearest are completely disconnected from how life actually operates.
However, what pissed me off the MOST was his admitting to using an earpiece to convey emotion. Bitch, you're an ACTOR. You're getting paid squillions of dollars to do your job, and yet you think that being fed lines in order to drum up some kind of behind-the-eyes feeling is perfectly justifiable? This is Acting 101, Junior High level, and this trashy junkie midget can't pat his head and rub his stomach at the same time? I am satisfied to witness his entire selfish, solipsistic world publicly evaporate.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | June 26, 2018 5:24 PM |
Johnny Depp is for sure sunk unless he dumps Manatt Phelps. They lose everything at trial or on appeal. He should get some real lawyers like Gibson Dunn or Quinn Emmanuel.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | June 26, 2018 6:10 PM |
Except he's not really an actor, is he? He never had decent training or spent time on stage work. He couldn't memorise a short scene, let alone a major role.

R226 obviously has never seen RDJ without the right lighting and stage make up.

R233, it's also like this with famous musicians. Pattie Boyd said when she was married to that rapist and wife beater Eric Clapton how she would ask him about their finances, money, etc. and Eric would just claim how his shady manager took care of everything and would give him money to buy drugs, etc. She got out fast while she still could.
by Anonymous | reply 240 | June 26, 2018 8:28 PM |
R222, are you surprised at this or something? Most people know this as soon as they learn how fame, the cult of celebrity, and Hollywood work.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | June 26, 2018 8:29 PM |
R237, RJD is sober, and very evidently so. He is one of few ex-alcoholics, drug addicts who made it. Also he doesn't need to be carried to premieres of his movies and doesn't forget names of his directors during interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | June 26, 2018 8:39 PM |
So he uses an earpiece after all. It's infuriating. Cause he gets paid millions but he can't remember a few lines!!!! Blah!
by Anonymous | reply 243 | June 26, 2018 9:11 PM |
R242, RD Jr. sober? Yeah maybe if you somehow consider someone still using drugs to be "sober" which is laughable.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | June 26, 2018 9:12 PM |
Yeah, R243, when asked for acting tips, I've heard many actors say that knowing your lines is their #1 piece of advice. That just makes me think there's too many actors that don't bother.
by Anonymous | reply 245 | June 26, 2018 9:21 PM |
To the girls arguing over RDJ's sobriety, or lack thereof, what proof do either of you have?

by Anonymous | reply 247 | June 26, 2018 10:41 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 248 | June 26, 2018 11:27 PM |
Didn't RDJ say in an interview that his wife told him that if he ever did drugs again, she would be out the door with no second chances and that she was dead serious about it? He's still married, isn't he?
by Anonymous | reply 249 | June 26, 2018 11:50 PM |
R240, you're right. I read "Wonderful Tonight" (in fact, I own a copy of the damn thing) and it was just stunning how the overrated bullshit artist known as Eric Clapton lived his life, and was treated, like an overgrown child. He had no clue about bank accounts, finances, nothing....his manager took care of all his expenses, and if he wanted some pocket money, he'd get some. If I recall correctly, Pattie Boyd mentioned finding a cheque worth many thousands of pounds made out to Clapton's name--stuffed into some kind of desk drawer--and he sort of waved his hand and said "Nah, don't bother cashing it...I don't want to give the bank my money."
Are they all retarded?
by Anonymous | reply 250 | June 26, 2018 11:53 PM |
R247, it's been known for a long time he is addicted to both coke and heroin, and went between those two addictions, and got addicted to alcohol as well. But all of this is very common among hard drug addicts who are addicted to multiple drugs. He does not look good and has not for decades, and I'm surprised that he did not overdose like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger did.
R250, yes a lot of them are, especially during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s since they were too busy using drugs and having sex with lots of underage girls who were barely teenagers. Add in the fact that a lot of them were very narcisscistic and could not take care of themselves, and had record company executives, managers, music promoters, etc. who via legal contracts managed to take a very large percentage of money. Also the part in that book was exactly what I was thinking of when I wrote my post.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | June 27, 2018 3:00 AM |
Quoted from the article in Rolling Stone at OP's link. Nobody should be surprised about any of this. Depp has always been an actual narcissist who believes that the film industry both in the United States and in other countries revolves completely around him. Add in the fact that he's never been told no, and at one time had way too much money he spent foolishly and is addicted to multiple drugs.
Unfortunately for Depp, TMG filed a thermo-nuclear complaint last summer. The lawsuit described the actor as a spoiled brat with no impulse control. Kump noted TMG had never been sued by any of its other clients and that "Depp lived an ultra-extravagant lifestyle that often knowingly cost Depp in excess of $2 million a month to maintain, which he simply could not afford."

Tragic. Agree with others who have posted above that this is reminiscent of others like Elvis. George Michael also comes to mind, just with not near the same level of talent. Surrounded by leeches and paid lackeys who will not say "No" because they are all on the payroll. Meanwhile, JD is rapidly circling the drain.
His role model is Keith Richards??? He is definitely the exception and not the rule to surviving a life of self-indulgent excess. Many younger and stronger have croaked doing far less for a far shorter period of time. Keith also has Stones money, probably pretty hard to run out of that.
Hope he gets his shit together before it's too late.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | June 27, 2018 5:15 AM |
Keith Richards is lucky that Mick Jagger got the Stones business affairs in order. If he'd been left to his own devices he would have gone under in the '70s.

He had cheekbones. He never had any talent. He never once played A Normal Guy believably. He was a male Darryl Hannah (Mermaid, Robot, Ghost, Mutant, never a believable human woman).
Elvis died with money. Depp squandered his fortune & is going to die in debt.
I suspect he had a booze withdrawal induced stroke or two and hasn't been right since. Also, fame is a huge buffer against reality, weirdos get really weird and even the best intentioned and seemingly down to earth progressive celebrities and stunningly out of touch with reality.
I think to find out what's really going on with him, we'd have to find out why Vanessa cashed out when she did.
And I've posted this before here, but we have all these horrible new people who don't know anything: my coke dealer was RDJ's coke dealer through 2012. I left LA in 2012. If the guy is still alive ("former" FBI), he's very likely still (one of) RDJ's main connection(s).

I remember when Robin Williams said how when he divorced one of his wives how he was then "poor and broke" yet he lived in a mansion and had more money than most people in the world do.

Wesley Snipes is gay. Vin Diesel is gay and out. Tom Hanks is bi or gay. He has two houses next to eachother - one with wife and kids, the other with boyfriend(s). Christian Bale is also gay or bi - he has male or female assistants who feed him cocaine or give him blowjobs when he's stressed out. Cruise and Travolta are also gay, but that is not news anymore. Brad Pitt heterosexual/straight? LMAO He was Thom Racina's houseboy, or kept boytoy, he looked like a hustler on Santa Monica when he was younger and just starting out-not sexy or hot at all, and he met up with other bisexual men who were in porn for Sean Cody and making money on the side hustling.

Brad Pitt is outed at least 3 times: by Thom Racina, by a porn star and by Sham Ibrahim.
Ryan Reynolds is a queerbaiting closet case like Andrew Garfield and his ugly wife is a lesbian and her marriage to ScarHo was a lavender marriage

When I first heard his kid was 'seriously ill' I thought - he's self harmed. And I do not say that with glee or malice. Depp is a fucktard, a self-pitying booze hound spilling all his mess to Rolling Stone and lurching around Europe with his tacky mid-life crisis cock rock group. What young teenager would not be ashamed and mortified of a father like that.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | June 28, 2018 4:02 PM |
I doubt the kid is ashamed. Johnny is Jack Sparrow!
by Anonymous | reply 311 | June 28, 2018 4:09 PM |

I find it interesting, and yet not surprising that even Tim Burton does not put Depp in his more recent films.
They used to be close, like to the point where they lived next door to each other in insanely expensive estates/small castles in France, and for awhile Burton would put Depp in pretty much every film he had made.
Did Depp have an affair with Helena Bonham Carter, and that's why she divorced Tim?
by Anonymous | reply 318 | June 29, 2018 12:50 PM |
No, R318. Unless Helena Bonham Carter is the name of a drink.
Johnny’s mistress is booze, and his side pieces are heroin and coke.
I think you guys don’t realize the damage done to your cocks after years and years of boozing and drugging. You can’t get hard without pills, period, end of. And if you do, it doesn’t mean that you have much sensation, because it doesn’t have the same sensation as when you were much younger. It takes forever to orgasm. Some men don’t even respond to pills.
You just cannot age, smoke, and party like that, without your penis suffering from the side effects of that lifestyle.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | June 29, 2018 1:17 PM |
Helena Bonham Carter is quite quirky, I can imagine him going for her. Her aristocratic background would also be another attraction.

Re: Elvis' fortune
Presley's affairs were in quite a mess when he died. Priscilla stepped in a guardian of her daughter's affairs and really whipped the estate into shape, i.e. establishing Graceland as a tour destination and shepherding Elvis' musical legacy. The $100 million fortune that Lisa Marie has squandered was mostly due to her mother.

Tim Burton and HBC separated cause Burton was having affairs.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | June 29, 2018 9:33 PM |
The comparison to Elvis is apples and oranges. Elvis had a steady stream of record sales as well as licensing and whatever money Graceland brings in. He died broke, but the money kept on rolling in. Graceland was a money pit, but as far as I know that was his only property.
What's Depp got, $40 a month in 23 Jump Street residuals?

by Anonymous | reply 384 | July 14, 2018 10:07 AM |
Agreed, r384. Also it’s crazy how many ppl on here think nothing of his history of violent abuse and assault or say Amber Heard had it coming, or whatever. There was also a blind item about how on Depp’s recent trip to ...I don’t recall if it was Berlin or Eastern Europe, but he requested that underage girls be procured for him to rape. And here people are on this thread hoping he’ll pull himself together for the sake of his own kids, who are older than some of his trafficked sex slaves.
The man was attractive and charismatic for a couple decades but he was never a good person. Even if someone on here did some gardening on one of his estates once upon a time and that person didn’t happen to be treated like shit, it doesn’t make him a good guy. Newsflash: people can actually be nice 99% of the time but if the other 1% they’re raping 15 year olds or cold-clocking their wives or running up drug debts and setting up other people for the crime then that makes them bad people. JFC. It’s a shame that Depp had a shitty childhood and turned to drink and drugs to manage his pain and has been unable to ever turn his life around but he has had countless more chances than the average person gets and now his time is just about up.

I can see this, too. In addition to the parallels posters have noted between Depp and Elvis, et al., I think he is remarkably similar to Tom Cruise in many respects. Cruise is in up to his eyeballs in the cult of Scientology. Based on what I've read about him his life is consumed with Scientology activity and obsession much like Depp's life is dominated drugs and booze.
I'm sure the state of Tom Cruise's finances is just fine and he's famous for his anti-drug stance (even psychiatric drugs as they are forbidden by Scientology) and clean living. But he has given millions and millions to the cult, blathers about his "religion" in word salads that make about as much sense as Depp's meanderings. He is surrounded by people on Scientology's payroll who cannot say no to him and enable his detachment from reality. There have even been reports of him striking underlings ( but not wives). And he does sound quite dumb.

R391, I’m R370. Not sure if R392 was attempting to answer in my stead, or answering for him/herself, but Johnny & I ran in the same circles during two different times.
We ran in a circle where we were all getting pretty fucked up in the late 80s, early 90s. I got sober right before River Phoenix died at the club. After River died, people in that group either got sober, or got deeper into partying. I didn’t see JD for years, because he left town not long after.
Years later, JD started coming back to the States. He was hanging out with the people who made it out sober, from that original circle. He had his shit together, more so than ever before, and was in a good place.
That’s all I’m going to say.

During that comic con appearance, Heard was always within arm's reach of 6'4" uberman Momoa. Kinda wish Depp had tried something. It would have been like a Warmer Brothers cartoon. Momoa would have hammer punched him on the head and hammered him halfway through the stage.
( The crowd cheers wildly.)

R408 Nope. Depp had a clean record until he very foolishly married his rebound girlfriend. Heard, with accusations of assault in her past, is the only one complaining.
Obviously Depp's alcoholism is getting the best of him but since Heard opted for the law firm of TMZ and Associates no one really knows what happened behind closed doors. I'm willing to give Depp the benefit of the doubt. Depp looks bad right now but Heard is hitting a false note with me as well as many others.

It's in the past R407. There is no term for it, no diagnosis and no treatment. Tragic, hope she can find a support group or something.
Try not to worry about Amber R407, she wouldn't spend ten seconds talking to you if it didn't result in face time and because you are not wealthy and cannot further her career. Amber has plenty of money of her own, plenty of rich friends and has media on her side. She'll be just fine.
Let's worry about women living in poverty who can't escape their abusers. You know, people with actual problems.

You are welcome R408 and R412.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | July 22, 2018 5:07 PM |
Amber lives next to my friend, and the girl loves her (as she calls it) coconuts. The neighborhood wants her evicted for all the parties that she and her roommates have.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | July 22, 2018 5:12 PM |
Wish Depp had tried something, oh puh-leaze R409.
No, the crowd wouldn't cheer wildly it would just reinforce Heard's image as a rich, privileged actress doing the faux victim routine once again. If Heard thought she could benefit by Momoa under the bus she would.
by Anonymous | reply 416 | July 22, 2018 5:13 PM |
So Heard is a booby groper and a bad neighbor R415? Hope someone get's footage of her in action with their phone.
by Anonymous | reply 417 | July 22, 2018 5:15 PM |
r417 coconuts is slang for cocaine.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | July 22, 2018 5:22 PM |
r416, Heard wouldn't dare with Momoa- Lisa Bonet would hex her ass to filth.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | July 22, 2018 5:23 PM |
Sorry about that R418.
So Heard is a coke head and a bad neighbor? Hope someone get's footage of her in action with their phone.
Interesting. So who was aggressive on the night in question? The obnoxious coke snorter or the strange but harmless falling down drunk? Hmmmm.
by Anonymous | reply 420 | July 22, 2018 5:49 PM |
Lisa is quite beautiful. She is still quite beautiful. Heard is more of a "amazing what they can do with hair and makeup" type.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | July 22, 2018 5:51 PM |
Ahahahaha. The Depp fangirls are out in force I see.
R413, try not to worry too much about Johnny. He wouldn't so much as look at you if you were dying on the sidewalk right in front of him. In fact, I'll bet he wouldn't even help a very good friend who was dying on the sidewalk (outside his own restaurant)........oh wait, that really happened.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | July 22, 2018 6:47 PM |
R407 and R422 Johnny has male fans too. Or at least he did in his younger days, not sure about now.
I don't expect Johnny Depp to look at me, I honestly don't think I would take him as a gift. I just have always really liked him as an actor, he doesn't seem to be one to go into a panic if he wasn't the center of attention and he seems like an odd but likeable guy.
I'm not the one who rehashed Amber Heard and her unsuccessful fame-grab. Just saying I am going to give Depp the benefit of the doubt given that his reputation does not proceed him the way Heard's reputation proceeds her, that Heard's nanosecond in the victimized female spotlight is over and that Heard is more than well-equipped to deal with her own problems.
by Anonymous | reply 423 | July 22, 2018 7:59 PM |
R413 Depp hasn't tried to cry on the public's shoulder?
I guess you didn't read the Rolling Stone article. Equal parts arrogance, delusion, and crying for the waaaaambulance. Furthermore, blaming his emaciated appearance on his ex is the very definition of crying on the audience's shoulder. He needs to take a page from the Brad Pitt playbook and give a big meal culpa.
BTW, are you a social media manager for team Depp?
You're not coming across as being very objective.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | July 22, 2018 8:40 PM |
Was it Depp who use to trash hotel rooms and set them on fire? Leave them totaled?
by Anonymous | reply 425 | July 22, 2018 8:49 PM |
Depp was also accused of attempting to attack a crew member on one of his recent films.
by Anonymous | reply 426 | July 22, 2018 8:50 PM |
R424 And you don't sound you have an axe to grind with a man you don't even know or like you sit up at night crying over some rich, fame-hungry rhymes with witch at all! I just love YOUR sense of objectivity!
Depp probably wouldn't have done the Rolling Stone thing if he wasn't in 'Fantastic Beasts'. Didn't sound like he crying to the public, he just sounded like a mess. And why wouldn't he have the urge to try and explain himself or to do what he can to not ruin the film's chances at the box office? Who in his position wouldn't feel that way? That's human nature. (You take no pleasure in that the story in question only made Depp look worse? None at all?)
The hotel room thing happened once and I don't believe there was a fire set, but whatever happened I believe Depp took care of whatever damage he caused and that was very long time ago. Depp does not go around destroying hotel rooms.
As far as Depp attacking a crew member? The director of the film said that there was "no story here" and, again, we have..."victim"...who is after monetary "damages". This would be the first report of Depp ever acting this way on a set, the director denies it happened and Depp's "victim" is probably literally banking on Depp handing over money to make this go away. I cannot imagine drunk, scrawny Johnny Depp being a huge threat to anyone and I don't recall any mention of hospital records where this crew member is concerned.
I don't know if you have noticed but Depp's reputation has taken a hit and he is kind of a target right now. I don't know if you noticed this either - but we live in a country where if people can sue someone with some depth to their pockets, regardless if they really have a reason to sue, they will go for it.
Again, I'm giving Depp the benefit of the doubt. You feel like he is what the media is making out to be and I feel that he simply got on the wrong side of people who have some sway in "the business".
I agree that Depp messed up his own life, his health and his finances. He has had lawyers dump him , he has got people suing him - and he has no one else to blame but himself. But there are revered celebrities out there who are much worse than Depp, who are rotten people, but they are in their prime, they're bankable and have a team on their side.
I find Depp's decline very sad. Not a child being abused until they die sad. Not people living in poor countries not having access to clean drinking water sad. More like Elvis sad. Whitney Houston sad. Where you just stand back and go, "Oh my God. What went so wrong here?"
Let's not peer into the moneyed world of Hollywood and create vulnerable little victims where there really aren't any. Let Amber continue to enjoy her money and her husband shopping and going "forward with love" where Depp is concerned and let the crew member in question continue to make the wish list that is going to come true once he gets his settlement check.
Also, take comfort in the fact that are a whole bunch of Johnny-haters out there who agree with you. Stop worrying so much about me.
Nothing to see here really. Except Depp's terrible self-destruction.

r420, Friend Neighbor texted me earlier today that AH was partying til 6 am and at 1:30 pm earlier today was entertaining topless with red cowboy boots on. Alas, unlike the bitches here on DL, Friend Neighbor is too classy to film or take pics. I've worked with her, and she can turn on the charm and charisma when she wants. She's very professional on set (at least on the big budget stuff).
by Anonymous | reply 428 | July 23, 2018 3:31 AM |
R420 Seriously. Aare you serious?? Or are you just putting the anti-Amber DL population on? If it's true that she is a drug user and not-very-nice, phony person whose attitude changes for opportunistic reasons - you are giving the anti-Amber clique on this thread a feeling of victory.

to the Depp Insiders: if he was in a good place, then what got him started back into a deep downward dive? the split from Vanessa?
by Anonymous | reply 432 | July 23, 2018 2:57 PM |
R432 I'm no insider, but it seems like the Paradis split was the beginning of the end. It coincided with "The Lone Ranger" virtually finishing him as a credible actor, and since he's been the steaming hot mess we've all come to loathe.
by Anonymous | reply 433 | July 23, 2018 3:34 PM |
r431, Well it matters if she has loud parties out at her pool until 6 am three to four times a week (her house abuts 4 other properties, and they have all complained). And you can see everything from my Friend Neighbor's kitchen (their house is slightly above her pool, so you can see the entire pool and into their house.
If you like watching a skinny girl prancing around naked whilst you're doing dishes, or preparing your food, then more power to you.

He's an addict, R433, and he does what addicts do. He should be held accountable for that and not excused, but it'd be a shame to loathe him just because he was gifted and handsome once and isn't any longer.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | July 23, 2018 10:38 PM |
R434 I sure don't care about boobs and Amber Heard, but if I lived in that house I'd be all Gladys Kravitz all the time.
That's some quality snooping ground!

by Anonymous | reply 439 | July 24, 2018 4:43 AM |
Even if Amber is a topless with cowboy boots bad neighbour hard partying addict it doesn't change the fact that Depp is a grimy looking douche. She could be a skanky addict and he still could have abused her.

by Anonymous | reply 446 | July 24, 2018 5:37 PM |

This was followed by a garden party for small children separated from their parents by ICE agents.

I knew that Amber Heard was a wooden actress but I was shocked at truly awful she is in this trailer for Aquaman. Part of it could be because she's wearing that terrible red wig instead of her own blonde hair, so you are focused on her monotone voice and deadpan face.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | August 7, 2018 12:21 PM |
Yes, R454, you said that before.
by Anonymous | reply 455 | August 7, 2018 1:35 PM |
While Momoa is a total real life stud, the more he or any of his co-stars are shown speaking, the more the Aquaman film looks like yet another huge WB/DC bomb.
Heard might be a wooden actress, hired for her looks, but her leading man is her make counterpart so it evens out, I guess.

Depp' latest movie City of Lies which was supposed to be released in September has been postponed indefinitely. Reasons are unknown.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | August 8, 2018 7:58 PM |

I believe that the reason for the delay in releasing the film is due to the recent public confession about Tupac's murder.

He's always been dumb, talentless white trash. His cheek bones gave him his career and probably some very dark underworld forces in Hollywood - drugs, mobster types who could kill adversaries without retribution.
by Anonymous | reply 473 | July 8, 2020 7:46 PM |
There’s something about Johnny Depp that has always bugged me.Even when I was sort of a fan. This story is grotesque..It’s American capitalism at it’s worst.Someone who portrayed themselves as such a artistic “maverick” going on spending sprees with budgets that would feed the poorer citizens of struggling nations for a year. All to feed an obvious emptiness inside. The great financial divide is even more glaring now, when so many of America’s poor, sick and disenfranchised are rising up.Are we supposed to feel an ounce of pity for this man?Hollywood is choking on it’s own excesses and Depp is another sick symbol of that.
The more interesting story is his artistic decline. How did he go from maverick to shill so fast? From artistic darling to hack?Although I guess his money problems go a long way towards explaining that. The extravagant pay checks needed to support the extravagant lifestyle. But the performances themselves became an embarrassment, and whatever artistic merit his earlier portrayals held have been forever clouded by his terrible decisions.Sad I guess. But also infuriating.
