A Dry White Treason

Starring DL faves Marlon Brando and Susan Sarandon.

I don’t get the title, other than the reference to a Righteous Brothers’ hit. No attempt at word play. Worst so far.

by Anonymousreply 5June 2, 2018 12:25 PM

I'm tired of the song titles. They are getting boring and lazy. I liked the literary references we were using earlier much more.

Now that I have said that....COME ON MUELLER HURRY UP!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 6June 2, 2018 1:09 PM

Almost two years and nothing yet? This is nothing more than a distraction to keep the sheeple happy while the Orange Orangutan fills his pockets.

by Anonymousreply 7June 2, 2018 1:13 PM

r4, FUCK that cunt Susan Sarandon

by Anonymousreply 8June 2, 2018 1:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 10June 2, 2018 1:27 PM

To Every Thing (Turn, Turn, Turn) There is a Treason

by Anonymousreply 11June 2, 2018 1:41 PM

Really, R5? Seems pretty obvious what the point of the title is to me.

by Anonymousreply 12June 2, 2018 2:12 PM

Who is WHL on these threads?

by Anonymousreply 13June 2, 2018 4:40 PM

r7....Mueller has only been on this case for just over 1 year......Watergate took over 4......hell, Benghazi was 7 and her emails were 4......I might add that Benghazi and her emails resulted in 0 (zero) charges after 10's of millions of taxpayer dollars spent by REPUBLICANS.....and Mueller already had multiple indictments, several guilty pleas, and already has someone in prison as a result.....and he hasnt even begun to unveil the good stuff yet.

by Anonymousreply 14June 2, 2018 5:31 PM

Unlike R5 and R6 I'll thank the OP for continuing these threads.

by Anonymousreply 15June 2, 2018 5:40 PM

Thank you, OP, who keeps the flame alight.

I and everyone sane appreciates your work, linking, conscientiousness and your ability to stick it to the traitor in chief.

by Anonymousreply 16June 2, 2018 6:15 PM

Another golf clap for OP. Melanoma waving bye is melancholy.

by Anonymousreply 17June 2, 2018 6:18 PM

I believe Mueller knows the hour grows late and he'll be issuing indictments very soon. Big ones. I have to wonder about Flynn and Manafort and Gates. And then there's the Child porn guy, Nader. What I'm hoping for is that we get surprise indictments for a few members of Congress. I know Mueller is going to get Donnie Jr. and Jared. Maybe even Ivanka. But I want to see Nunes and maybe even Ryan go down for the dirt nap. Aren't Flynn and Manafort getting ready to go to Trial? And does Cohen have a trial date yet or is it too soon? Most of all I want Trump & Co. to be stripped of all their assets.

Mueller should indict Trump and then let the court figure it out. No one should be above the law in a democracy and I don't believe our forefathers intended that.

by Anonymousreply 21June 2, 2018 6:41 PM

It is so odd that we did not prepare ourselves for a Trump. I guess we did not think the people would elect this kind of monster.

by Anonymousreply 22June 2, 2018 6:43 PM

Exactly, R21. This has gone too far. Emollient clauses be damned, family members being appointed be damned, collusion with foreign governments be damned, appointments of the indicted and incompetent, pardons of the guilty, access for sale, and on and on.

by Anonymousreply 23June 2, 2018 8:20 PM

We need 67 votes in the Senate. Do we have them? That's what we need. Once the House votes to impeach, he gets tried (and convicted) by the Senate. To get him out of office and into jail we need 67 Senators to vote to do that. Think about it. And tell your friends, ad work really hard to get Democrats elected to Congress in 2018.

by Anonymousreply 24June 2, 2018 8:25 PM

r20.....in typical NYT fashion, they are a day late and a dollar short while doing Trumps bidding......that "memo" is FROM JANUARY.......and if you notice, Trump tweeted about it several hours ago claiming Mueller is leaking "confidential" letters from his attorney.......BWHAHAHAHAHA......sure, Jan.....just like Mueller "leaked" the questions Mueller wants to ask Trump, only to discover it came from notes taken by Trumps attorney Jay Sekulow......I wonder who leaked this one....hint : Giuliani

r23......as a reminder.....after a multi year investigation that turned up nothing, Congress IMPEACHED Clinton for lying about a blow job......A BLOW JOB......yet Congress needs to wait to do anything about Trump until after the investigation....hypocrites....repubs and dems alike.......meanwhile, there are mountains of PUBLIC EVIDENCE about Trump AND HIS ASSOC that would have taken down any other president and his administration....investigation be damned......lying, bribery, corruption, obstruction, etc......the list goes on. They dont need the results from Mueller when all the evidence is right in front of their faces.

r24.....thats an excuse.....if evidence was presented that showed that Trump absolutely did what hes accused of, they would have more than enough votes in the Senate to remove him......were not talking about a blow job here....were talking various crimes against the United States and its people amounf other major felonies.........your reasoning only works if its minor offenses.

by Anonymousreply 25June 2, 2018 8:29 PM

The phrase of the day, boys and girls is...

SEALED INDICTMENT

It brought a tear to my eye.

by Anonymousreply 26June 2, 2018 8:34 PM

R26, there were rumors of this in mid-May. Is there more news on this? And yes, I did search and found nothing more recent.

by Anonymousreply 27June 2, 2018 8:52 PM
Emollient clauses

Do they leave one's skin soft and supple?

by Anonymousreply 28June 2, 2018 8:57 PM

R25 All I'm doing is telling you facts about the process. I'm not trying to argue with you. Trump and his corrupt piece of shit administration has been in our faces and you're right as far as I'm concerned. We shouldn't have to wait for Mueller. Trump has fucked up enough to start proceedings right now. But the Republican Congress will not hold hearings, legitimate hearings, nor will they draw up articles of Impeachment. They refuse to acknowledge any crimes have been committed even though it is clear and obvious that Trump has endangered national security and violated the law repeatedly. As far as I'm concerned the entire Republican Party is a criminal enterprise under RICO. The media has uncovered all kinds of shit. There is no sense of outrage and no urgency in Congress. They have the power and refuse to act. So yeah, if you want him to go to jail, we need 67 fucking votes in the Senate. And I want his ass under a fucking jail.

by Anonymousreply 29June 2, 2018 9:09 PM

A poster on the previous thread asked (something to the effect of) what prevents a pardoned witness from lying. Typically, statutes for perjury offenses would do this. Pardons don't cover future crimes. Even Nixon's "full and unconditional" pardon for unspecified crimes he may have committed against the United States while president didn't cover future crimes.

by Anonymousreply 30June 2, 2018 9:13 PM

Yes, R30 Pardons don't cover future crimes but that won't stop Drumpfy for pardoning them again for perjury!

by Anonymousreply 31June 2, 2018 9:27 PM

Maybe, r30, but Trump's own political and criminal liability probably prevents even an initial pardon of someone connected to him during the campaign, transition, or presidency.

As soon as he pardons, say, even one of Flynn, Kushner, Trump Jr., Stone, Manafort, Gates, Cohen, etc. for crimes committed during the timeframe mentioned above, he's effectively a lame duck president and the action would produce documentary evidence of corrupt intent.

by Anonymousreply 32June 2, 2018 9:37 PM

R28, I'd say 'damn autocorrect' but I'd be trumping. I just typed emotionally and while on ambien. What was meant is violating the EMOLUMENTSW Clause:

"Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8. No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State"

MAGA for graft and corruption!

by Anonymousreply 33June 2, 2018 9:49 PM

R31 But each time he pardons to protect his co-conspirators, he brings attention to his and his enablers' crimes. It's a temporary stall tactic that creates more stigmas and suspicions. The end result is still the collapse of his presidency.

by Anonymousreply 34June 2, 2018 9:53 PM

Maybe Melania will announce she’s left him while he’s in Singapore?

by Anonymousreply 35June 2, 2018 9:55 PM

Perhaps Melania, the political savant, is already paving the way to peace, R35, and was secretly flown in ahead to 'soften' the deal.

by Anonymousreply 36June 2, 2018 9:58 PM

Yes, R34 but the Deplroables and Rethuglicans don't care.

by Anonymousreply 37June 2, 2018 10:09 PM

They are all gathering at Mar-A-Lago without Melania. Something fishy is going on. It is not all about preparing for the summit with N. Korean leaders.

by Anonymousreply 38June 2, 2018 10:53 PM

The New York Times article today (linked at the end of the previous thread) about the recently leaked letter from Trump's lawyers to Mueller is honestly disturbing. I was expecting them to argue that, as President, Trump is above the law, and that's what they did. But they also argued that Trump could not be subpoenaed because the office of the Presidency is "sacred." Not just important--"sacred." It's apparently a Biblical-level violation, an abomination before God, to expect Trump to show up for an interview and testify truthfully.

by Anonymousreply 39June 2, 2018 10:54 PM

Theyre all at Camp David to discuss their predicament and to get their stories straight......and its because they are now aware that their calls have been monitored but they dont know by whom.....trump cant risk discussing their crimes on an unsecured line or aving the FBI pick them up if theyre monitoring them (Jared, and Don, jr)

by Anonymousreply 40June 2, 2018 10:58 PM

Also where to bury Melania's body

by Anonymousreply 41June 2, 2018 11:01 PM

BTW....has anyone else noticed that nobody is saying a word about the fact Trump and his staff use unsecured phones and its now reported that spies have been intercepting those calls ?........I remember the meltdowns about Hillary Clintons "unsecured" server and how she was "hacked" (didnt happen) and compromised our national security because of it.

by Anonymousreply 42June 2, 2018 11:02 PM

Remember, R42, it's not a problem when republicans do it.

by Anonymousreply 43June 2, 2018 11:03 PM

R43 is absolutely correct. There are two standards of conduct: everything that Democrats do is a problem; nothing that Rethuglicans do is [bold][italic] ever[/bold][/italic] a problem.

by Anonymousreply 44June 2, 2018 11:09 PM

In the last thread, people were overreaching on the limits of Republican voters. The MOR Republicans will dump Trump in a heartbeat when their 401ks go from $1 million to $250k. ETFs create an unstable market and people like Buffet are stooges that just redistribute wealth among already wealthy

Tariffs and natural or terrorist disaster will suddenly spook market and potentially cause global collapse. The U.S. Is a debter nation

by Anonymousreply 45June 2, 2018 11:21 PM
It is so odd that we did not prepare ourselves for a Trump. I guess we did not think the people would elect this kind of monster.

They did prepare for a Trump which is why there are impeachment procedures and the 25th Amendment. What they failed to see was an entire political party in charge of the legislative branch and an entire cabinet being 100% complicit in the president's crimes.

by Anonymousreply 46June 2, 2018 11:35 PM

Giving too much credit to his base. Sorry, man. As has been pointed out numerous times, the Deplorables will never turn on him. They'll just find someone else to blame. He called them stupid to their faces and they cheered. That tells you all you need to know.

by Anonymousreply 47June 2, 2018 11:36 PM

The Emollients Clause leaves his hands greased with cash. So soft!

by Anonymousreply 48June 2, 2018 11:37 PM

But I think you are conflating deplorables with people who are middle class or higher - they represent millions of voters

The Founding Fathers were wise enough to know a madman might come along, but who could foresee slightly more than half the politicians in Washington happily selling their country down the river?

by Anonymousreply 51June 3, 2018 12:24 AM

But they didnt take into consideration that the entire cabinet would be just as corrupt as the president who appointed them and that the congress would be complicit in forcing the nominations through.

I don't think the Founders were naive about any of this shit. there actually was all this crap in England in the 18th century, and they hated the idea of big political parties. but there is no way to prevent it, except maybe revolution, and then only for a little while. They hated the very idea of big national parties, and then they all formed or joined political parties almost as soon as this country started. periodically, everything reaches this point of total corruption and it is up to whatever generation to put that shit back together. sorry, don't blame the founders, this is on us.

by Anonymousreply 58June 3, 2018 3:12 AM

Not us. Only the people who voted for Trump and the Russians. Why do you think Trump is meeting with Kim and Putin? Kompromat

by Anonymousreply 59June 3, 2018 3:40 AM

all of us, r59. we have developed a very corrupt, very fucked up government, pretty much full of assholes. we need to do something about it, hopefully this November.

by Anonymousreply 60June 3, 2018 3:43 AM

Sorry- I am not taking responsibility for Trump. He will always be a minority president

by Anonymousreply 61June 3, 2018 3:48 AM

that is fine, r61, just vote this November. nobody needs to take responsibility for shit, but it would be nice if everybody who could vote, did vote.

by Anonymousreply 62June 3, 2018 3:50 AM

Well I do blame "Us." We gave it away because we did not show up. We did not stay informed. For expamle, in 2010 Obama had a majority Democratic Congress. But we didn't show up to vote in the midterms. From 2006 until 2010 we had control. Then in 2010, the most important year for redistricting, we gave it all away. There is no excuse for people to allow the GOP to control Governors and state legislatures either. Now we ar e paying the price. We aren't used to all this marching or making phone calls to members of Congress, and watching the news and paying attention to what the cabinet agencies are doing to our country. But we have to pay attention because everything is getting fucked up very quickly. They have uneashed bigotry and hatred so that we fight one another while they rob us blind. Now we have to stay involved even after we vote because we can't ever let this happen again.

by Anonymousreply 63June 3, 2018 3:53 AM

I'm with you r63, I want to be polite, and I want to not be all over the map, which I'm being right now, but JESUS FUCKING MOTHER FUCKING ASSHOLE ON A FUCKING CRACKER CHRIST, everyone stop dicking around and drag your motherfucking ass to polls this November and do not invent stupid motherfucking excuses for yourself you motherfucking cunts that did that last time.

as I say, trying to be diplomatic here.

by Anonymousreply 64June 3, 2018 3:56 AM

Well, in order not to be completely negative I will say I'm glad so many people have discovered marching and making phone calls. I have women friends I work with who have never done either of those things but they're doing them now. And thanks to Facebook, yes, Facebook, people are finding out what's going on with the various cabinet level departments. Scott Pruitt,Betsy De Vos, and Ben Carson are the top ones, and of course Kelly. John Kelly.Because Environmentalists and educators and parents and kids are speaking out. So for all the garbage on Facebook there are also some good things. But people are feeling optimistic and they're out here fighting and that's a good thing. I just wish we had done that 8 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 65June 3, 2018 4:12 AM

you are an infinitely nicer person than me, r65, and love that so many people are doing this. I really do think Democracy is at stake in this election. for the first time in my life, I am truly worried about the survival of this country in the way I want it to survive.

The frightening implications of the Trump Lawyer's memo to Mueller:
Consider that if the memo is correct, there would be nothing wrong with Trump setting up a booth somewhere in Washington, DC where wealthy individuals could hand checks to Trump, and in exchange Trump would make whatever federal legal trouble they are in go it away. You could call it “The Trump Hotel” or maybe bundle a room to stay in along with the legal impunity.
Having cut your check, you’d then have carte blanche to commit bank fraud or dump toxic waste in violation of the Clean Water Act or whatever else you want to do. Tony Soprano could get the feds off his case, and so could the perpetrators of the next Enron fraud or whatever else.
Perhaps most egregiously, since Washington DC isn’t a state all criminal law here is federal criminal law, so the president could have his staff murder opposition party senators or inconvenient judges and then block any investigation into what’s happening.

by Anonymousreply 79June 3, 2018 5:10 PM

That meme should be greeted with ridicule for how completely fucked up it is. Let's stop pretending to be shocked..

by Anonymousreply 80June 3, 2018 5:17 PM

Thank you, R80. Exactly. They gave Mueller the memo in January........I guess he hasn't read it yet, because he's been rolling up the indictments and the guilty pleas since then, and has just kept right on investigating.

by Anonymousreply 81June 3, 2018 5:24 PM

Giuliani and Trump and their crowd don't seem to realize, nor do their collaborators in Congress, that they are not doing this in isolation. There is an international intelligence community, there are people here in the USA who a re part of the FBI counter Intel operations and the CIA, and countries all over Europe Asia and the Middle east who are helping nail this down. He got involved with Putin. Putin is hated. He is spied upon. He got involved with China, need I say more? He got involved with Middle Eastern big shots, all of whom are carefully watched. Does he think Netanyahu has any power over this? That corrupt piece of shit is being observed by Israeli Intelligence too. So Trump over reached. He let his ego get in the way and started hangin out with the wrong crowd. This isn't simple fraud extortion or obstruction. This is treason. We need to start getting used to that word.

by Anonymousreply 82June 3, 2018 5:28 PM

we do, R82, and we need to start talking about the death penalty. Fines don't frighten these people. they never pay them anyway. Only the death penalty, or maybe serious jail time, will get them to take it seriously.

by Anonymousreply 83June 3, 2018 5:30 PM

I heartily agree that it will be the international IC that starts the truth telling on these scumbags.

I believe Mueller has his team on lock down and they won't leak because they understand what's at stake.

But there is nothing stopping MI6 or any other former ally of our from just dropping some serious bombs on these cunts. Especially as it gets closer to the midterms.

Nobody save pooty, wants instability and chaos.

by Anonymousreply 84June 3, 2018 5:56 PM

I think Ive figured out whats going on with Trump and his family......Trump and kids met at Camp David, not to discuss legal stategy, but to plot fleeing from justice during the NK summit. They will all attend, and then, with Kims help, will escape to Russia. Melania is already gone...not to Russia, but in hiding because if anything, she will return to Slovenia with Baron and her parents (although shes not implicated in the least and could stay in the US). That is their plan seeing how they are aware that indictments could come down any day now ...especially for junior and Jared.....and theyre banking that it wont happen before the summit. Thats their cover...and NK is just across the border from Russia.

by Anonymousreply 85June 3, 2018 5:57 PM

The Republicans will never relinquish power. They control all three branches of federal government. Yes, if Democrats came out to vote in massive numbers they could win, but there is no leader who is giving them a reason to do so. The older Democrats - Bernie, Nancy and Hillary are all career politicians I’ve 70. They are baggage and there is no younger leaders they are currently pushing. Sad

by Anonymousreply 89June 3, 2018 6:27 PM

Over 70

by Anonymousreply 90June 3, 2018 6:28 PM

Trump and Congressional Republicans are more than adequate reason to vote in massive numbers, R89. And this is the midterm, not the Presidential election. We can talk more about a leader in 2020. For now, it's enough to block the damage that Republicans are trying to do.

by Anonymousreply 91June 3, 2018 6:33 PM

I am just not seeing the motivation for Democrats to go to polls without a leader - look how many people sat out the last election. Democratic voters are very lazy

by Anonymousreply 92June 3, 2018 6:36 PM

PE, it’s typical boomer behavior that Nancy thinks she has this covered. Incompetent leader who is clueless that she is a major liability

by Anonymousreply 93June 3, 2018 6:38 PM

Mid terms aren’t about national leaders, R92. But thanks for trying, LOL.

by Anonymousreply 94June 3, 2018 6:38 PM

Of course they are - Democrats are going to blow it because they don’t know how to lead

by Anonymousreply 95June 3, 2018 6:39 PM

No, actually they aren’t about national leaders. Mid terms about local and state leaders. Dems will continue the momentum they’ve built over the last year because voters desperately want a check against Trump. That’s why Dems have won local and state races by wide margins.

by Anonymousreply 96June 3, 2018 6:45 PM

Okay Jan. Tell us how this goes come November when usual Republican turnout maintains the status quo because Democrats stay home and don’t vote

by Anonymousreply 97June 3, 2018 6:48 PM
I am just not seeing the motivation for Democrats to go to polls without a leader

So you've said, repeatedly. It was foolish the first time and it doesn't get any less foolish from repetition.

by Anonymousreply 98June 3, 2018 6:48 PM

R97, we've got a year and a half of data since the November, 2016 election. Democrats have been killing it, winning in red districts all over the country precisely because their turnout is up and Republican turnout is either flat or down. And all of that without this so-called "leader" you've been whining about.

That's "how this goes."

by Anonymousreply 99June 3, 2018 6:49 PM

Okay Nancy, proof will be in the pudding. If Democrats fail, you should resign

by Anonymousreply 100June 3, 2018 6:51 PM

the motivation is the asshole in the white house. there is no other motivation needed. everyone sane hates that bitch and they will be turning out to vote against his enablers.

by Anonymousreply 101June 3, 2018 6:51 PM

Why would Nancy Pelosi resign, R100? Next January she will be Speaker of the House.

by Anonymousreply 102June 3, 2018 6:54 PM

Hahaha

by Anonymousreply 103June 3, 2018 6:56 PM

That was the best you could do, R103? You need to go back to trolling school.

by Anonymousreply 104June 3, 2018 7:02 PM

Obviously there’s going to be a long legal battle over the subpoena. If Starr served one to Clinton, you better believe Mueller will serve one to Drumpf.

Anyone else creeped out by Drumpf’s insistence that the Russia investigation shouldn’t encompass anything other than collusion, even though Mueller’s mandate from Rothenstein clearly provides for investigation and prosecution of all criminal acts uncovered during the course of it? It’s like Trump is saying the existence of other criminal behaviour by himself and his associates should be ignored, as if they’re privileged. It’s also practically an admission of guilt. It makes me sick.

by Anonymousreply 105June 3, 2018 7:06 PM

Mid Terms are local. The Senate may be more national. The leader that will motivate D's and I's is named Donald Drumpf.

by Anonymousreply 106June 3, 2018 7:07 PM

Yeah, I think Democrats are ignorant of how much money will be poured into competitive races to maintain the status quo. And at 78, Nancy Pelosi is a symbol of longstanding political careerism and the face of a failed election in 2016. Over her and her selfish stranglehold on party leadership. She is actually a disincentive to vote

by Anonymousreply 107June 3, 2018 7:15 PM

R107, please try to not be any more stupid than you've already been. Democrats are [italic]winning[/italic] the money race this year, with a record-breaking haul. And the only people who care about Pelosi are the idiots like you. Republicans tried to use Pelosi in the recent Pennsylvania race. They failed.

by Anonymousreply 108June 3, 2018 7:19 PM

Sure Jan. Good luck with that fantasy. The Republicans will do wag at they are told and will go to the polls. The Democrats will stay at home because they are lazy

by Anonymousreply 109June 3, 2018 7:22 PM

As previously stated. Mueller DOES NOT HAVE TO SUBPOENA TRUMP. A subpoena is nothing more than a courtesy....if there is evidence, then its not necessary to have Trumps testimony.......its a distraction from Trump and co. We are not dealing with a he said/she said ala Clinton. We are talking major crimes against the US....including TREASON. Do prosecutors bring in defendants for an interview before arresting them and filing charges ?......maybe, MAYBE .00001 per cent of the time. Its not standard procedure.

by Anonymousreply 110June 3, 2018 7:31 PM

Makes sense Don Sr. would be into Kellyanne p p since it is convenient and he can deny.

LOL.... Have you, perchance, been asleep for the past year and a half, dear? I'd say "nice try" but, honestly, your trolling is just pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 112June 3, 2018 7:40 PM

Pelosi has said to democratic candidates "run against me. Just win". She knows what she's doing and is our best bet to bind the Manchurian candidate. The barrier is the stupid electorate with their "I want everything" consumerism attitude.

by Anonymousreply 113June 3, 2018 7:43 PM

Who says Hillary can't get people to vote? She got more votes than Baby Trump. What tripped her up were the white racist voters who responded to Trump's dog whistle message. Dems would never court these voters anyways. They just need to get the urban voters to come out against Trump.

by Anonymousreply 114June 3, 2018 7:45 PM

Use Ignore-dar on the Pelosi Troll and you will see that he started in this thread as "one of us", with encouraging posts initially.

Then he started with doubting if there's anything Democrats can do - very Concern Troll.

When that tactic was ignored/rebuffed, he changed to his "Democrats are losers!" attacks.

HOW can so many of you DENY that there are Trolls sent to spread divisiveness here at the DL? Right here, this Troll followed the textbook in sowing the seeds of doubt and discontent among gay Democrats, which he started by pretending to BE one.

Be aware!

by Anonymousreply 115June 3, 2018 7:45 PM

Trump, like his trolls, likes to paint a false picture of being supported by the majority and being invulnerable to attacks. His little pathetic rallies are essentially to make him seem "popular" to hide the truth that he's really hated by the majority. The Dems' message should be the majority needs to stand up to this bully.

by Anonymousreply 116June 3, 2018 7:52 PM

I think you missed my point, which was to make you present a winning case. I am giving you an F

by Anonymousreply 117June 3, 2018 7:56 PM

I'm sorry, but after Hillary's loss, I am no longer stating the outcome of any future electoral event as a certainty. And I much prefer voters be scared to death that the Democrats are going to lose ground in the midterms if it's going to motivate them to go to the polls.

The CBS News Battleground Tracker today calls the House a toss-up:

"In the race for Congress, most polls report one national percentage for Democrats and Republicans. But that's not very helpful – because this is a race for seats. 435 of them, in fact.

So the CBS News/YouGov Battleground Tracker will report seats: how many districts the Democrats would get, and how many the Republicans would get, as of today. And we find the 2018 campaign looks like a toss-up contest for control at the moment, as the Democrats would most likely get 219 seats if the election were today (just one more than the 218 needed for a majority) and the Republicans 216. With a margin of error of nine seats on the model, control is totally up for grabs."
I think you missed my point, which was to make you present a winning case. I am giving you an F

LOL.... Nice try, dear, but your tactics are obvious to everyone here. You tried to pretend that everyone hates Pelosi and will vote against her, then you tried to pretend that Republicans have more money, then you tried to pretend that Democrats won't turn out. And all three of these assertions are belied by the actual data of the past year and a half. You got nothing.

by Anonymousreply 119June 3, 2018 8:08 PM

R118's Fear Fantasy is what the Russian Trolls use to spread despair among Democrats, making them feel like it's hopeless - "Why even vote? We're going to lose anyway. CBS says so!"

by Anonymousreply 120June 3, 2018 8:09 PM
The frightening implications of the Trump Lawyer's memo to Mueller:

Another implication: Even if Obama did sic the FBI on the Trump campaign, it would be perfectly okay.

by Anonymousreply 121June 3, 2018 8:13 PM

Well, we can either use fear for despair or fear for motivation. I'm fine with a healthy dose of fear if that's what it takes to turn out Democrats.

One thing to note about the CBS Battleground polls:
We also estimated a turnout model using data on past midterm elections.

Nobody knows who will turn out this year. The "likely voter" model failed in some states in 2018 and it has failed in the reverse direction in some of the off-cycle elections since (most notably the blue wave in Virginia).

by Anonymousreply 122June 3, 2018 8:15 PM

You need education to go along with your fear tactics. Just terrorizing them doesn't accomplish anything positive.

Fear just to scare Democrats to not vote is the Russian approach and makes you seem like one.

by Anonymousreply 123June 3, 2018 8:23 PM

Recovery Gay, Ryan Knight:
Republicans accused Obama of treason despite having no evidence to support their claims. Meanwhile, Democrats are scared to accuse Trump of treason despite the fact that while Russia was hacking our election Trump’s campaign had 70 contacts and 22 meetings w/ Russian operatives.

by Anonymousreply 136June 3, 2018 11:34 PM

I am deeply convinced of the majority of the public's opinion turning against Trump. What I no longer feel secure about is the sanctity and safety of our voting systems. This scares the shit out of me. Apropos of my first statement, just today a long-term time friend and hard core Rethuglican believer made some statements that shocked the hell out of me. Her husband is going through a mid- life crisis HARD and is partying right now with other buddies at an Executive getaway in Disney. My friend's comment? "My husband is a Narcissist. At what point did I fall asleep, wake up, and this generation turn into narcissists." Also, besides her husband's antics her brother in- law is an Executive for the mining industry and goes to frequent Corporate Hotel " Trainings". Again, my friend, "Why are we taxpayers paying for the mining industry to party on weekends?" The worm has turned.

by Anonymousreply 137June 3, 2018 11:36 PM

If Nancy Pelosi were smart, she would nominate Hillary Clinton for Speaker of the House (yes, she can do it), so when TRUMP and Pence are removed, HC becomes president.

That really would cause the deplorables heads to explode.

by Anonymousreply 138June 3, 2018 11:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 141June 4, 2018 12:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 142June 4, 2018 12:59 AM

Has anyone here ever tripped acid? Talked yourself and/or a friend down from a bad trip?

Here it is for this bad bad bad trip: the Comey Solution IS an answer (the voters must not be let off the hook, voters put him in, the VOTERS must take him out) — if we look to Congress to do this, it would shy necessarily the true will of the people. Yes, I agree I’m principle with that (sorry!). But it’s only part of the answer, and I really feel like this is an epiphany for me.....We vote him out, THEN Mueller fully strikes. The concept of him not being indicted is more than I can bear, but the only way to charge him is to FIRST get that mother fucker out of office.

I realize what I’m saying isn’t a new idea, but it makes me feel like this bad trip will end. I’ve never been more clear. This is why we MUST exert maximum pressure on Congress to protect Mueller, we will only get delayed gratification but they MUST stop Trump from canning him!!! The only way to see justice is to let Mueller stay for as long as he bloody well needs. He loses in 2020, and they throw every single thing they’ve got at him, and I mean throw it ALL.

by Anonymousreply 143June 4, 2018 1:02 AM

Typos sorry

by Anonymousreply 144June 4, 2018 1:03 AM

Getting him out of office is the goal. R144. But we can't afford to wait until January 2021. We need to act as soon as we have the 67 votes in the Senate. So that is our job. Yes, we the people can vote. But the vote to get him out of office is NOW. 2018. We need the support of 67 senators to convict him and run him out of office. House impeaches, Senate convicts. So I don't need millions of votes, I just need 67. Lets get that done.

by Anonymousreply 145June 4, 2018 2:30 AM

Sorry, R143, but I tend not to agree with Comey on this point. If the Democrats return to power in January, and Mueller delivers a report that is replete with evidence that Donald Trump committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" -- thereby meeting the standard set by the Constitution for impeachment and removal from office, it is the duty and responsibility of the members of Congress to take action and remove this cancer from our body politic. This traitor was foisted on the majority of the country (and the rest of the world) by a minority of voters. There exists a way to remove him that the Founders intended us to use in just this type of situation. His ability to thus far evade the law and remain in office is doing great damage to our governing institutions -- not to mention the disgusting and disgraceful campaign that he currently waging against a free and independent press.

No waiting. I don't want to leave him in office one second longer than we absolutely have to.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 147June 4, 2018 2:31 AM

R146, I hear you on the Comey thing — like I said, I agree “in principle” with him, but my extreme anxiety to get him out is at code red. I agree, the flip side of all of it is that can not afford to wait that long. I’m just trying to hold on to something/anything that gives me hope. I DO think that the voters need to remedy this (ultimately) because in order to do that we need to weed out these fuckers in our own individual lives, it’s the most organic way to “fix” our voters. But I also keep circling back to the reality that it feels like we are running out of time.

I watched Steve Schmidt today talk about the two ways autocrats win. One is by sheer domination (think the Allies va Germany), the other is by killing their will through wearing them down (think the US vs Vietnam). Our scenario is the second one, Schmidt feels that he is wearing down Democratic voters and that’s why we’ve seen some of the excitement wane. I think he is correct. This doesn’t mean Schmidt thinks (or that I think) Trump will prevail. It just means we need to be conscious that Trump is using this classic autocratic technique on voters. Schmidt’s partial solution to this is Dems continuing to keep their base excited and pumped.

More like the only insightful person posting on this thread. Pelosi is not good on delivering election results without a leader who inspires voters. Thank God for Steve Schmidt and others who will tell the truth, but I fear it's too late. Rudy is basically paving the way for a hostile takeover. Morons leading morons, etc. you can't win midterms if false results sway the election to continually show Republican victory.

by Anonymousreply 152June 4, 2018 3:56 AM

Yes, unlike some of the bitches here, I admire Pelosi (because I don’t listen to misogynistic tepid propaganda) HOWEVER, my caveat with her is that she’s a supporting player. She is much more effective in dealmaking that Trump could ever dream. But she was never meant to be the main leader for voters, that’s not her sweet spot. Her sweet spot is in passing fucking legislation. Pelosi leads quite effectively with other politicians, you’d have to with her achievements.

R152, yes, that’s Rudy’s strategy. But it’s not too late. We aren’t even through Act II.

by Anonymousreply 153June 4, 2018 4:12 AM

r134, "Who cares"? You do! TIME was the ENTIRE POINT of your r14 post! Sorry you now are up-SET because you couldn't add!

ABC TV here Australia - our state run tv channel - like the BBC in the UK - is running a series on the trump Russia thing - in its Four Corners weekly current affairs show.

First episode tonight wasn’t bad at all - it’s going to be broadcast over a few weeks - and in the first episode there were interviews with James clapper, Felix Sater, Roger Stone - lots of acrchival footage and background stuff. Keep in mind it’s aimed at aussies who might not be that familiar with all the complexities.

Dunno if there’s any way for Americans to see it - the Oz ABC website probably isn’t accessible in the USA - but they did say there were more interviews and background on YouTube - so maybe a lot of stuff there? Anyway - it’s a nice general overview - well worth a look.

Mika Brezenski attacking the Clintons again this morning.

Her own behaviors are not so endearing.

by Anonymousreply 157June 4, 2018 12:00 PM

OK, it's worth repeating that we are going into the prime time phase of the Mid term elections. We already know that the red meat that get's Trump's animal base out, turns the haters out is screaming things like "Crooked Hillary" or "E-mails!" (yes that still works. It's become a Pavlovian response." ) We also know that demonizing Pelosi, immigrants, and stirring up the white working class to insist the Democrats are ouot to get them works pretty well too. It's the old "Divide and Conquer" routine, spread fear and division thing. All very obvious.

So beware. Beware when you see people like Mika and other pundits on TV, people that the masses view as "Liberal" or "Moderate" Dems going after the Clintons, Bill or Hillary particularly now. And especially beware of the divisive rhetoric sewed by Jane Sanders and Bernie. They and their disciples are out here stirring shit up trying to create or exacerbate divisions in the state Democratic parties with extreme Left candidates who are unelectable in a general election. They aren't succeeding because people are smarter than they were in 2016, but it is still having an effect. So turn off all the noise and just make sure people vote.

Yes, most of us know that, but the Right is definitely going after Liberal voices and people who are effective in exposing Trump, so don't drink their Kool Aid.

by Anonymousreply 158June 4, 2018 12:33 PM

Damn, What the hell is wrong with Mika this morning? She has her full on hate of the Clintons on full blast today!

And it's actually BILL Clinton that she's mostly furious with this time around.

by Anonymousreply 159June 4, 2018 12:44 PM

She went into faux outrage mode like when the Fire & Fury author was there who insinuated Trump was fucking Nimrod Haley.

by Anonymousreply 163June 4, 2018 1:43 PM

I haven't watched that low IQ sidekick to killer Joe since they interviewed Charles Koch and slobbered all over him. It was sickening. Joe and Mika are phoneys. Like most MSM. CNN, Fox and MSNBC are going after Avenatti now. Why? He's trying to get Trump. Leave him alone. I almost think the MSM wants Trump to stay in office - for ratings. Assholes.

by Anonymousreply 164June 4, 2018 2:10 PM

The Avenatti coverage is bullshit. That man got information and brought it to the media and helped the media start new lines of inquiry. Did it get good to him? Yes. Was he over exposed? Yes. But we need firebrands like that to say what the media cannot or will not say and their attempts to discredit him I see the hand of Rudy Giuliani making the argument to the network brass that the coverage has been too one sided, and too many of those top execs will go along with him because he's Rudy and he's good for ratings. We have to make sure Rudy is the one discredited and we can do that on social media. The bigshots watch what trends on social media and they will cave in if used. So let's push.

A person cannot get a pardon unless guilt is first established. And once pardoned a person cannot plead the fifth. So there's a downside to a pardon.

by Anonymousreply 186June 4, 2018 10:41 PM

Also, the pardon don’t mean dick for the people who already talked.

by Anonymousreply 187June 4, 2018 10:45 PM

It also doesn't help for state crimes. The state of NY and Virginia, and a few others may have something for his ass. LOL!

by Anonymousreply 188June 4, 2018 10:46 PM

How long before Giuliani says there's a way around conceding guilt.

by Anonymousreply 189June 4, 2018 10:47 PM

I believe this is all theater. I don't think Trump or his lawyers have any legal grounds at all for these latest assertions. I 'm a fool, OK, but I believe there are sme powerful forces out here who will not allow Trump to get away with this. It's one thing to get greedy and conspire to enrich yourself. But he is putting a lot of shit on the line that will affect other people and he is becoming a liability. They are not going to let him go that far.

by Anonymousreply 197June 5, 2018 12:15 AM

Let him be compelled to testify in federal court after sacrificing his fifth amendment right on the alter of a pardon about a crimr that will land him at Rikers Island under New York State law.
Yeah, I really don't know why they and the media keep ignoring the fact that a Pardon means nothing when they can all be nabbed on State charges.

Because a president using the pardon on himself precipitates a constitutional crisis.

by Anonymousreply 201June 5, 2018 12:34 AM

Obviously, R201 but we're not talking about him pardoning himself. And even if you throw that into the mix, it doesn't explain why the media ISN'T mentioning that its moot with regard to State crimes.

by Anonymousreply 202June 5, 2018 12:38 AM

R202, one of the possible reasons for not going into it is that New York--currently viewed as the jurisdiction likeliest to bring State charges--has a unique double jeopardy law. The law currently limits New York's ability to bring State-level charges if, under some circumstances, a person has previously been charged with a federal crime. The law, which the now-disgraced NY AG was trying to have changed, is (I believe) accurately summarized in the attached blog post.

by Anonymousreply 214June 5, 2018 1:19 AM

R213, the electoral college was established at least in part to overturn the will of the people should they elect someone completely unsuitable for the role. These days, most states try to lock the electoral college delegates to their votes but in the original vision they could have replaced Trump with any other more qualified candidate, presumably from the Republican Party since that party won more electoral votes. I assume that this is what R204 was referring to.

This Twitter thread is worth reposting, since I think it really gets at the heart of the problem with Trump. Some selections below but, really, do read the whole thing.
The one thing that you need to understand about Trump is that he is, at his core, a con man with no empathy. Therefore, he assumes that all other people are also con men with no empathy, and every exchange of goods and services that exists in the world is, on some level, a con.
Trump assumes every transaction in the world — between people, businesses, nation-states, even between two different agencies of the same government — has a winner and a loser, a scammer and a sucker. He believes if you're not ripping someone off, you're getting ripped off.
It's not simply that Trump *doesn't* think the Paris Climate Agreement, Iran nuclear deal, TPP, NAFTA, or luxury cars from Germany are a good deal for America. It's that he *can't* think that. It's an alien concept to him that a deal other people want with us could also help us.
This is why Trump will never, ever, be able to negotiate with the rest of the world. He doesn't believe in mutual benefit. The second anyone tells him "this is your end of the deal" he'll rip it up. He believes only one party can have an end of the deal, and it shouldn't be him.
And we're not just screwed on foreign policy, but domestic. This explains his behavior over DACA, spiking two bipartisan deals even though they were what he asked for. He assumed if Democrats were willing to talk, his deal wasn't ripping them off, ergo it would rip him off.
That implies if Democrats win Congress, we are going to enter an all-out legislative standstill like we've never before seen. Our system is entirely reliant on compromise and compromise isn't compatible with Trump's beliefs. We will struggle to pass even basic reauthorizations.
o yeah: our nightmare is not going to end until we get this pathological con man out of office. He is not just bad at being president, he has a defective way of seeing the world that is not compatible with being president. And we will pay for it.

Josh Marshall, over at TalkingPointsMemo, has an intriguing supposition about Putin and Trump and that ever-changing story about the meeting between the Russian operatives and Trump, Jr. It's behind a paywall, so I'm not going to quote the whole thing or link to it, but here are some selections:
I was reminded of this this morning when Natasha Bertrand, then of Business Insider and now of The Atlantic, tweeted out a link to a piece she wrote a year ago. The gist is this. The night before the President dictated that bogus cover story about Russian adoptions he’d met privately with Vladimir Putin and discussed, by his own account, Russian adoptions!

I linked Natasha's tweet below, which also links to her article.
As Bertrand notes, the fact that this meeting happened “the night before Trump reportedly crafted his son’s statement about the Trump Tower meeting raises questions about whether Putin played a role, directly or indirectly, in influencing the version of events Trump’s team relayed to the press.”

So on July 7, 2017, the New York Times contacts the White House about a story it's preparing on the Trump Tower Meeting. Trump was on his way to the G20 Summit.

That day, Trump had his first meeting with Putin, which was also attended by aides and translators from both sides. But that evening is where it gets interesting, as Trump met Putin in an unplanned meeting, a meeting that included just Putin, Trump, and Putin's translator, with no American representatives. In an interview with the New York Times two weeks later, Trump said:
TRUMP: We talked about Russian adoption. Yeah. I always found that interesting. Because, you know, he ended that years ago. And I actually talked about Russian adoption with him, which is interesting because it was a part of the conversation that Don [Jr., Mr. Trump’s son] had in that meeting. As I’ve said — most other people, you know, when they call up and say, “By the way, we have information on your opponent,” I think most politicians — I was just with a lot of people, they said [inaudible], “Who wouldn’t have taken a meeting like that?” They just said——

The following day, Trump dictated his son's official statement in response to the breaking story about the Trump Tower meeting. Back to Josh:
So the President learns news of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting is going to break. His staff is chattering and brainstorming about it all day. He seeks out President Putin and has a highly irregular private meeting with Putin with no other Americans. He discusses Russian adoptions. The next day he takes over the press response and personally dictates a statement which is false and makes Russian adoptions the centerpiece of the meeting.
It is not only clear that the discussion of adoptions with Putin informed Trump’s false statement. It seems impossible to imagine that Trump didn’t raise the Trump Tower meeting explicitly with Putin during their chat. Indeed, it seems highly likely that that is why he went out of his way to meet with him a second time. Remember, this is the guy who two months earlier bragged to Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov: “I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job. I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

Trump and the GOP have made a mockery of American democracy. He breaks rules left and right, and there is no one to stop him, instead you have a whole party helping him at every turn. This demonstrates the current system has no safeguard against a corrupt party playing tricks and hijacking the government, leading to a breakdown of rule of law. It also shows the mainstream press doesn't care as long as they are making money out of this mess. Even if we recover from this eventually, there is no guarantee all the loopholes in the system won't be exploited again.

by Anonymousreply 233June 5, 2018 3:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 240June 5, 2018 5:16 AM

I posted this in the Manafort thread although it's probably better suited for this one. I think it was Chris Hayes tonight who said that even if trump pardoned some of the players the investigation would continue because of the many Russians who were indicted. To kill the investigation trump would have to pardon them too, and it isn't likely he could get away with that.

Apparently indicting all those Russians were part of a very clever long game.

by Anonymousreply 241June 5, 2018 5:45 AM

and who, exactly, would prevent him from pardoning all of those Russians?

Who? The complicit mcturtle? The cowardly Ryan? As if. Nobody will stop him.

WE need to get the fuck out and vote! Donate time, money, your skills to get democrats elected. We must do this. It is up to us!

by Anonymousreply 242June 5, 2018 6:36 AM

R219 Your post is right on the money! But there are so many who already knew that long before he was elected. I knew it, and I'm nobody important. It's why I never suspected for a million years he would actually get elected. In my heart, I know the election is illegitimate. There are so many details that have yet to be proven and revealed. It makes me so sick!

But the only way to deal with a sociopath like Trump is this: when you "negotiate" with him, you always have to give him something - something that is to his benefit and him alone. I think it was Kimmel who had an outlandish idea that I totally agreed with. For the rest of his Presidency, we should just call him "King" and allow him to live that way at his estate in Mar a Lago, as long as we let someone else do the actual governing.

by Anonymousreply 243June 5, 2018 6:36 AM

R243 at the very beginning of his Presidency that might have worked for a while, but at soe point he started to feel comfortable with being the Presidency and he is definitely running the show now. R156 - I think what’s going on with Trump and his regime is getting headlines all over the world - not just Australia! - and we’re all a bit gobsmacked and concerned by what’s going on there.

In general tho - most people here are only getting headlines and not the depth - so the Four Corners report is trying to give average Australians more context and background to what’s going on.

I think most Australians hear about America and know something about it - a lot more than you guys hear and know about us!

I grew up in a very pro-American household - and have been to the US several times, have friends there - and America - via tv and film - was a huge cultural influence (I grew up watching reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Lost in Soace and just about every other bad old sitcom you can think of after school!) - and the US has always been fascinating to me. I’m interested in its history and politics.

And of course - it’s easier to access news now than its ever been. I listen to podcasts of maddow and some of the other msnbc shows - pod save America - and follow a lot of US journalists on twitter and read so much if your press online.

From the outside looking in - it seems a very scary and dangerous time. Eventually the instability of it all must begin to have an adverse effect on your economy surely? - and that will have a huge effect globally.

It’s just so - unstable. And the people running the show there now seem to be complete amateurs without a clue as to the intricacies of running government. And the people who did have any knowledge are being let go or forced out - it’s a recipe for disaster.

It’s amazing how quickly other countries are beginning to rally though. I think everyone has now realised they cannot rely on America anymore. it’s utterly unpredictable with trump at the top - policies change on a whim! - so it’s a good idea to forge other alliances and make other plans. But it feels like the beginning of a new world order or something - completely uncharted waters ahead! - and it Is a very scary time.
used to it" but he is definitely "hands on" now and that is the worst part.

He got used to it because his initial messes saw no blowback and opposition from the Congressional GOP majority, starting with the unprecedented Flynn scandal. On the contrary he had agents like Nunes running interference while the likes of Miss Lindz quickly fell into step and Paul Ryan was all too happy to abandon all pretenses and go full steam ahead with "Trump agenda" so he can get his tax cuts. Practically all Congress GOP made every excuse for Trump, so he figured out he can say and do whatever without sanction.

The only way out of this mess is change the majority. Elections are the only viable remedy so that's where the focus and efforts must go. Mueller will do what he can with the investigation but he can't do anything with Congress.

by Anonymousreply 250June 5, 2018 3:04 PM

Nixon was charged as an "unindicted co-conspirator" and while he did receive a blanket pardon from Ford, the legal grounds for that are still being debated. Interesting to note that as the subject of a Presidential pardon in an ongoing investigation Nixon was never called to testify against members of his staff who were facing trial, charged with crimes. He could have been and he would not have been able to plead the 5th. There is a lot about what Ford did for Nixon, and how Nixon was treated afterwards that might not stand a legal test today. His staff could have had their lawyers subpoena him, it might even have cleared some of them, but they didn't.

by Anonymousreply 251June 5, 2018 4:28 PM

In retrospect, it's kind of amazing our forefounders gave the President the sole power to Pardon. Without a shred of checks and balances? No committee to review and make recommendations and/or veto? What were they thinking?

by Anonymousreply 252June 5, 2018 5:08 PM

r252, there is a pardon attorney. Trump is simply ignoring the institution and the reviews it requests. From the official DOJ website:
The Office of the Pardon Attorney assists the President in the exercise of executive clemency. Under the Constitution, the President's clemency power extends only to federal criminal offenses. All requests for executive clemency for federal offenses are directed to the Pardon Attorney for investigation and review. The Pardon Attorney prepares the Department's recommendation to the President for final disposition of each application. Executive clemency may take several forms, including pardon, commutation of sentence, remission of fine or restitution, and reprieve.

Trump thought it was a Great idea and dictated that as the reason for the meeting into his Son’s letter.

Hey thanks R249!

I was worried I was being a little verbose - but I am concerned about what’s happening to a country I so admired and respected.

On a happier note - glad you’re coming to oz! If there’s any help or info you require - start another thread and I’m sure myself and other Australians will be glad to offer any local knowledge we can...

And if you’re in my town (Brisbane) and at a loose end one evening - let’s catch up for dinner and dish on the DL together :)

by Anonymousreply 274June 5, 2018 10:26 PM

You know what I REALLY want to see data on? What percentage of Repubs have left the GOP. You know damn well there’s a reason we haven’t heard that percentage. Even if it’s only 5%, THAT would be a worthwhile topic for the media to cover. They hate looking weak — so make them look weak. Continually run stories of top Republican thinkers, journalists etc. who have turned on them. Pound them on this.

by Anonymousreply 275June 5, 2018 11:54 PM

^ Also, have a few of their politicians flip parties NOW, and give them bigly press coverage. This would irritate them to no end.

So is Dennis the official food taster?

by Anonymousreply 277June 6, 2018 12:02 AM

According to CNN, Melania Trump was instrumental in pushing Pence as VP. Gag. The interviewee was going on about Melanias savvy political skill. Fuck her. She's a true Trump. I wish she'd " disappear". For good. I hope all the DLers who have been hand wringing about poor Melania- cancer, no DT beat her ass, nervous breakdown, etc. she's a POS.

by Anonymousreply 278June 6, 2018 12:11 AM

I don't believe that r278. Melania and Barron have the most favourable ratings of that whole grifter family so why not throw some light to the replacement. Then again, maybe saggy titty Mike has a good hag relationship with Melania, and she approves of that handsome young blond guy who's fucking Mike Pence in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 279June 6, 2018 12:20 AM

Google it missy. It's in a new book. I don't even understand your post. The info. Just came out today by the author of the new book. Doubt her popularity will go down due to this anyway. Trumps evangelicals love Pence.

by Anonymousreply 280June 6, 2018 12:25 AM

What new book, fats?

by Anonymousreply 281June 6, 2018 12:28 AM

Bullshit....Melania stays as far away from that mess as she can.....besides, it was Tom Barrack and Paul Manafort that brought Pence in.....

by Anonymousreply 282June 6, 2018 1:32 AM

Barron has a rating? Why? For going to school?

by Anonymousreply 283June 6, 2018 1:38 AM

Some (don't know how many) Evangelicals only supported Trump to get Pence closer to the oval office. He's their chosen one. Not that it makes much difference.

by Anonymousreply 284June 6, 2018 1:57 AM

I've heard Republicans say they've witnessed Mike Pence gazing at young men in social settings. I don't think that means anything definitive, but it's been pointed out to me more than once.

by Anonymousreply 285June 6, 2018 2:00 AM

The immigration detention situation is so horrible, thousands of little kids Sen. Merkely was threatened with arrest for trying to gather evidence which is his right, and a lot of those kids are under 12. 5 y r. olds. Think about that. This is what Trump insisted on doing. He fucking changed the policy to permit this. Those kids were taken away from their parents against their will. Can you imagine the horror of that? Now their complaining of a backlog and they are thinking about putting them at military bases. I hate Trump so much at this moment. SO much. I want everyone who hates him to really focus and concentrate all that bad karma on him.

by Anonymousreply 286June 6, 2018 2:17 AM

Pence would pull a Jerry "Warren Commission" Ford and pardon Trump, if it's ruled that Trump cannot be a dictator, so Trump really has nothing to fear.

And before that, Trump can pardon his fellow felons.

by Anonymousreply 287June 6, 2018 2:35 AM

"Mother's" hubby, Mikey Pence, and booger eating Lyin' "Lucifer in the Flesh", Ted Cruz, will try to battle it out in 2020 for the evangelical nutwing of the GOP. They will fight to see whose most anti-gay and will formulate the most abusive and discriminatory policies.

by Anonymousreply 288June 6, 2018 2:41 AM

The day is going to come when the big, mass indictments will be handed down....it will include all of the big names, Don jr., Jared, Ivanka, Prince, Bannon, Stone, etc......and Trump will be no one named as an undicted co-conspirator to nullify his pardon power. Theres a reason we havent seen any of the known BIG players yet.....when they go down, theyre all going down together......it will be historic and epic and will shake our democracy to its core. There will be a lot of pissed off people, but not because their guy is going down, but because they were conned and fell for it and it will all be exposed to them in a way they cant deny it.

by Anonymousreply 289June 6, 2018 2:42 AM

there is no way Melania pushed for pence. she doesn't interfere. that is bs about her pushing for him. maybe she said, "i like him, he seems nice." and that got exaggerated

by Anonymousreply 292June 6, 2018 4:06 AM

Yeah, I don't buy that Melania has ever had the slightest influence over any of his decisions about anything. He despises her, and he pretty much hates all women. She has always been strictly there for arm candy, and lately to keep Barron away from him. But now, suddenly, she's discovered she can hurt him, and that is different.

by Anonymousreply 296June 6, 2018 10:12 AM

MANAFORT wanted Pence for VP. It was Chris Christy VP before Manafort joined and asked for the change. (Javanka pushed for Christy to go too)

by Anonymousreply 297June 6, 2018 10:24 AM

Usually with former governors, you can find something sleazy, something corrupt that happened in close proximity to them. Spiro Agnew was governor of Maryland before he became Nixon's VP. When Nixon named him everyone was like, "WHO????" He wasn't on anyone's radar. But he was a true hatchet man while Nixon campaigned "like a statesman." That's how it was done them. The VP was the "color commentary" While the President was the policy guy. Nixon always thought he was bullet proof ad he said so. He actually said, "they will never impeach me because then they'd get Agnew." But Agnew got busted for bribery. He had received kickbacks from contractors and vendors while he was governor of Maryland. He pleaded "No Contest," I don't recall if he went to jail or if he got probation, but I do recall that part of his deal was that he had to resign. Once Gerald Ford was installed as VP, Nixon's days were numbered.

by Anonymousreply 298June 6, 2018 10:45 AM

Any good news from primaries? I see a Dem female flipped a dear in Missouri

by Anonymousreply 300June 6, 2018 2:12 PM

Flipped a seat

by Anonymousreply 301June 6, 2018 2:13 PM

The GOP strategy was to pound on Hillary or Comey for botching the e-mail investigation, because mentioning "Clinton" is red meat to the base, and to pound on the immigration issue. They want to make sure we look at "Illegal" immigration as the third rail. So if they can get the Dems to talk about immigration reform, they can beat back the "blue wave."

Ironic isn't it, that Bill Clinton is on a book tour RIGHT NOW and all the Media wants to do is confront him about Monica Lewinsky, something he did 20 yrs. ago. They want him to "apologize." He was impeached, he was investigated endlessly by Ken Starr, he lost his license to practice law, etc. But the Right is determined to mine the toxicity they created surrounding the Clintons.

And now there is a huge focus on the children being held in detention separated from their parents, who were seeking political asylum. We ought to focus on it. We need video footage. But the Trump operation, is finding footage and photos from...2014 showing similar conditions, of course framing it inaccurately.

With the economy doing well and unemployment down in many places, the main issue the Dems keep pounding on is healthcare. It's a good issue. It really is the best issue. The other focus ought to be on Congress and what they have done...or not done.

The Democrats need to do what the Republicans have done so successfully and use the jujitstu strategy. Use your enemy's strengths against them. Our job is to focus locally. We need to look at Gun Safety, Healthcare and the tax cuts for the rich and kick some asses. Now. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them. I bring this up because if we fail in our mission to take back the House I will have a fucking nervous breakdown.

by Anonymousreply 302June 6, 2018 2:16 PM

I cant believe that Devin Nunes and Dana Roherbacher won their primaries pretty much in a landslide.....are the people in these areas brain dead ?.....Trump even tweeted out congrats.......both traitors, both documented publicly for their behavior, and yet they keep getting voted in. It boggles the mind.

R302 Other issues the Dems should press: education, the enmironment, the judiciary, rising inflation (that's happening), possibly rising interest rates, fighting corruption, etc.

The Republicans will try to paint all Dems as favoring blanket amnesty and open borders. That needs to be countered.

by Anonymousreply 310June 6, 2018 5:13 PM

R306 that's a great list. Interest rates ARE going up. And the rise in interest rates is slowing things down. Try to get a mortgage or a home improvement loan. Credit cards are charging usurious rates and small businesses are going to feel it too. And wages are stagnant. There may be low unemployment but I believe the numbers have been messed with and real unemployment is higher, especially among sub groups. The minimum wage is absurdly low. We have a lot of working poor and there is no social safety net. If the GOP holds on to the House they will slash Medicare Cut Social Security and get rid of Medicaid. That is their plan. They have said so. The Environment is going to be especially important to younger people. And the Parkland kids are working to get every one of the 4 million plus new 18 yr olds registered to vote. They are touring the country with the message to vote. I think the special outreach this year may help get younger voters to the polls. Environment, Education, especially student loans, all of these are winning issues for the Dems. But they have to make their case locally. I'm not surprised Nunes and the other Russian Troll got re nominated. The people who identify as GOP would vote for them.

Stormy filed a complaint today that her former attorney, Davidson, was working behind her back with Cohen. They have texts from Cohen and Davidson in the complaint.

There is a text from Cohen on March 2nd at 4pm. The first thing I always do when we get something with dates is look at Trump's schedule for that time period. On the 2nd at 4pm, Cohen he says he's with FLOTUS. On the public calendar for Trump, it says that at 3:45 Don and Mel arrived at Palm Beach after going to Billy Graham's funeral. At 4:05 they arrived at Mar-a-Lago.

Cohen was with Melania and Melania was with Donald. But I'm sure Cohen was doing all this and not telling Trump anything.

Then we have to be willing to do anything to take it from them, because they aren't going to give it to us, and they aren't going to stop because we say, "hey, cut it out."

We need to get active within our state Democratic party organizations. We need to get active at the local Democratic party level too. by Anonymousreply 324June 6, 2018 9:43 PM

Two words: Iran Contra.

And then Bush pardoned Casper Weinberger and 5 others. The GOP ran Oliver North as a Senate candidate and he ended up on Fox News after he lost. John Poindexter ended up in the Bush II administration, handpicked by Dick Cheney.

The GOP is a party of shameless assholes.

by Anonymousreply 325June 6, 2018 9:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 326June 6, 2018 10:06 PM

I find it all very discouraging. It's so transparently obvious what their "strategy" is. They get us to all fight with one another. Their specialty is spreading fear and fomenting division. And while we are preoccupied with wedding cakes and evil immigrant rapists, while we shoot and kill one another, they rape and plunder and rip us off. It never fails. The dumbasses always take the bait and vote against their own best interests. As if any otf them can afford to be members of Trump's club. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 328June 6, 2018 10:14 PM

^ Bingo. And the riddle I still want to solve (though I know it’s not necessary for us to remove them all) is how do you make this shameful? How do you impact their voters and make a case to them that this is working against their interests?

Either way, I’m steamrolling these mother fuckers. I do think however, that a small percentage of them are only brainwashed and love our country, those are the ones I’d like to see enter the Democratic Party. But yes, this is about winning No. Matter. What.

He may not know the dirty financing deals details, but he certainly knew who the Russian contacts were. He was probably told by Trump "if you run into any problems, just call so=and=so, and he'll straighten it out." Trump probably bragged about his connections to this guy to reassure him everything was wired up. I mean designing for NY or Scotland is one thing, but Kazhkstan and Tbillisi ??? As a matter of fact with the corruption in the building trades and the mobsters involved in real estate development in places like NYC, this guy very likely knows a lot.

by Anonymousreply 370June 7, 2018 2:23 PM

Actually, Mueller very well might not indict Trump......heres the catch....if there is irrefutable proof Trump committed Treason, espionage, etc,.....he can arrest Trump, president or not....for crimes against the United States. Were not talking minor corruption here, were talking TREASON, one of the very few crimes specifically mentioned in the constitution. You cant have a traitor holding office for months, or years if hes a proven traitor....it would become a matter of national security.

by Anonymousreply 371June 7, 2018 3:27 PM

I've wondered about the same thing that R371 mentioned. Is it possible that the only reason this whole investigation hasn't wrapped up yet is because Trump is guilty of something far, far worse than financial crimes or obstruction? Proving something as serious as treason could require a slower, more careful investigative pace with a heavier burden of proof.

It my just be wishful thinking, though...

by Anonymousreply 372June 7, 2018 3:30 PM

Or that there are so many players and so much money that was moved around. I think it is much more than collusion or obstruction, and that is why all the constant barking from Trump and Guliani to try and destroy support for any evidence that Mueller brings forward

by Anonymousreply 373June 7, 2018 3:45 PM

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski said a source told her that President Donald Trump is “upset” because he can’t watch porn while in the White House.

The Morning Joe co-host made the comments while discussing Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani’s attack against Stormy Daniels with Stephanie Ruhle this morning.

“I know someone who spoke to Donald Trump recently about life in the White House, and Donald Trump’s biggest complaint was that he’s not allowed to watch porn in the White House,” Brzezinski alleged. “So there you go. There’s a little bit of news for you. He’s upset that he can’t watch porn in the White House

by Anonymousreply 374June 7, 2018 3:52 PM

Well in typical Trump fashion he didn't think of what life would really be like in the WH.. he just went for it.

by Anonymousreply 375June 7, 2018 4:30 PM

r367, come now, you can't see that he Wears No Clothes?

by Anonymousreply 376June 7, 2018 5:07 PM

Trump is someone who doesn't really care about consequences. He's obsessed about winning (by screwing other people and businesses and even countries over) and for the next challenge. He doesn't give a fuck about the presidential day to day stuff. He looks for the opportunities to take more and chase that rush you get from being victorious while watching the losers get crushed by defeat.

by Anonymousreply 377June 7, 2018 5:28 PM
Trump is someone who doesn't really care about consequences.

Because he's never had any.

More from the NBC/WSJ poll
Despite that economic optimism, however, the poll shows that Democrats enjoy a 10-point advantage on congressional preference, with 50 percent of registered voters wanting a Democratic-controlled Congress, versus 40 percent who want a GOP-controlled one. Democrats held a 7-point edge on this question back in April, 47 percent to 40 percent.

Pirro getting confirmed via Congress would be difficult and controversial. She would get some combative questions. Won't happen.

by Anonymousreply 381June 7, 2018 6:36 PM

She won't even get a committee hearing. Mc Connell has assured Trump Sessions is going to be his AG. Period.

by Anonymousreply 382June 7, 2018 8:52 PM

Maggie Haberman @maggieNYT

Pirro interviewed to be the DAG. Sessions resisted. When he resisted, Trump advisors told him if he didn't give her a hearing, Trump might end up giving her SCOTUS.

by Anonymousreply 383June 7, 2018 8:56 PM

LOL! Pirro would need Senate confirmation for SCOTUS. And she'd be investigated. And I don't think he wants to do that. Same with AG. these are rumors, but really. I think she enjoys her status. There is only one other role she would accept: Vice Pesident. Now I can see her reaching for that. She isn't going to reach for anything else. Trump actually likes her where she is. There is no way he wants ehr or any other woman stealing his attention. And she would. And she would get media scrutiny and investigative reporters going after every single hair on her flabby as. irro i not accountable. This is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 384June 7, 2018 9:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 391June 7, 2018 10:42 PM

Sean Hannity advocating witnesses and persons of interest, etc., to destroy their cell phones, certainly sounds like obstruction in a federal criminal investigation. Then, Hannity will say he's kidding, but repeats the advocacy. Is Trump guiding Hannity, or Hannity guiding Trump? Pirro, and a few others at Fox, are making some vicious character attacks on the DOJ and FBI.

Mueller needs to question several Fox hosts, their news Director and Murdoch.

Mueller's report and or indictments will have to be as devastating as the Hiroshima bomb to force every single decent American to grasp the gravity of having traitors leading this Administration.

Actual and real Fifth Column Russian agents, spies, and "assets" who, by being on Putin's payroll, are actively working to: defraud the United States; deliberately deplete our administrative and diplomatic staffs to reduce America's effectiveness and influence in the world; deliberately harm our economy via bad trade policies; deliberately harm our citizens by destroying health-care programs, ignoring the effects of natural disasters, etc; deliberately insult our Allies while praising tyrants to destroy NATO; deliberately induce fear and mental health problems in children by forcefully separating them from their would-be immigrant parents or by the hideous decisions by ICE; etc.

That is to say, Mueller must provide the impetus to force Pelosi, Schiff, Schumer, Stalwell, et al. out of their polite "Alphonse" soundbites into making statements of RAGE, not outrage--RAGE. GD PATRIOTIC RAGE AT TREASON! AT A LITERALLY STOLEN PRESIDENCY BY A RUSSIAN AGENT! They need to tell Americans to take to the STREETS to force the TRAITOR and his HENCHMEN out of THE PEOPLE'S WHITE HOUSE!

Democrats need to use clear, simple, and accurate language: TRAITORS; TREASON; CONSPIRACY; FRAUD; THEFT; LIES; PERJURY; CRIMINALS; FELONS; AND, OF COURSE,

LOCK. THEM. UP!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 395June 8, 2018 12:45 AM

I wonder: If we were to make a list of all the things Trump has accused Democrats of doing, how many of those exact offenses will be levied against him when charges get filed?

Pay to play! Deleted and acid-washed emails! Carelessness in handling classified information! Facebook was on Hillary's side, not mine! Demonstrated penchant for sexism! Most dishonest person to have ever run for the presidency! Disregarding basic security protocols! Should not be given national security briefings! Is a lose [sic] cannon with extraordinarily bad judgement and insticts [sic]! Pandering to the worst instincts in our society! A major national security risk. Not presidential material!

This is just from the first two pages of Google results about Hillary Clinton from our Dear Leader's twitter feed.

How pathetic is this man and his obvious projection?

BREAKING: Federal law enforcement officials secretly seized years’ worth of a New York Times reporter’s phone and email records this year in an investigation of classified information leaks. It was the first known instance of the Justice Department going after a reporter’s data under President Trump.

The seizure — disclosed in a letter to the reporter, Ali Watkins — suggested that prosecutors under the Trump administration will continue the aggressive tactics employed under President Barack Obama.

by Anonymousreply 398June 8, 2018 1:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 427June 8, 2018 11:58 AM

R427 he isn't trying to hide it either. He has said in the past 48 hour that he anted Russia included. The G7 group was the G8 until Russia invaded Crimea and they expelled Russia. So Trump is isolating us and picking a fight with the G7 our closest allies all because of Russia. He is their advocate, and he is taking their position. He tore up the trans Pacific Partnership isolating us, then he ripped up the Iran agreement, removed us from the Paris accords on Climate Change, As started a trade war with his tariffs, We are becoming more and more isolated and it will impact our economy. What he is also doing is picking fights and bullying to get licensing agreements and business deals for himself and his family. There is a quid pro quo to almost everything he is doing. It's personal and it is a threat to our national security...and even the Koch brothers are pissed off, and they never cared for Trump in the first place.

And I'd like to ask the Koch brothers WTF they think they're doing? Yeah, I get it. They're wealthy men who want the government to favor them. Join the club. But this goes way beyond that. This is imposing your personal philosophy of government onto our country and now you have gone too far. All this White Supremacist movement bullshit, and exacerbating the racial divide that Russia exploited, the ICE round ups, the Muslim travel ban, etc this is not y country.

My local paper ran a story about Romney's prediction that Trump would win the next election. I hate to say it but he is very handsome. Reminds me of Bruce Campbell. Romney would have made a great looking president despite his politics, which in hindsight are not near as bad as the piece of shit squatting in the WH now.

by Anonymousreply 434June 8, 2018 2:18 PM
Romney would have made a great looking president despite his politics, which in hindsight are not near as bad as the piece of shit squatting in the WH now.

Romney would have done the same. He's the same sociopath business man who values winning and profits above all else.

by Anonymousreply 435June 8, 2018 2:22 PM

I never got the impression that Romney was actively treasonous though.

by Anonymousreply 436June 8, 2018 2:29 PM

Sessions and Trump are not talking about each other in front of the other, a marked change from earlier in the administration.
But when an aide mentioned Sessions, Trump abruptly ended the conversation and unmuted the television in his office broadcasting Fox News, dismissing the staffer to resume watching cable, according to a person familiar with the exchange.

NY Mag speculates it's because of resentment, but this has never before stopped Trump from improperly talking about Sessions and the Mueller probe with staffers.

I suspect something more nefarious than resentment is driving this change. It's possible that team Trump is illegally colluding with Sessions on the recent leak investigations and that Trump has been warned that the topic of Sessions is firmly off-limits to staffers lest his legal exposure grow.

As for Muhammed Ali, I have no doubt Trump was given incorrect information from one of his ignorant staffers. Why do I think this? Because why would Trump even think of Ali at all?

He thinks only of those against whom he holds grudges or a sense of envy. Trump has one over-riding thought, the prism through which he views the world writ both small and large: Revenge. People who dared to joke about him, run a campaign against him, require him to pay taxes, pass laws he hated, etc.

It's the money. So much money. We need public financing for our campaigns and a law that says campaigns for President cannot begin more than 12 months before an election. Period. To be eligible, all prospective candidates would have to provide five years of income tax returns, and place all their holdings in a blind trust.

No one in their immediate family could be on the government payroll even if it required a leave of absence. And no one could work as a paid lobbyist for any industry or corporate concern for at least three years to five years leading up to a campaign for President.

Primaries have to be regional. No more stringing the out. YOU have a block of SE states, a bloc of SW states, a block of NE sates, a bloc of NW states, then the central states, followed by the Midwestern states. Presidents would have one 6 year term. Period. The House would be four years, and the Senate would stay the way it is.

by Anonymousreply 451June 8, 2018 8:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 464June 9, 2018 12:09 AM

I think Trump is more and more embracing the idea that he is simply above and beyond the law. He's pissed at Muller, hates the whole idea that anyone would question him or criticize him or even, OMG, demand answers from him, but ultimately he's decided he's untouchable and will do whatever it takes to avoid all personal consequences for this actions. Let Mueller indict him, fine, he'll just pardon himself and dare the cowards in Congress and the Court to do anything about it.

But is it true that forfeiture occurs through the state? If you read that twitter post, it says it’s through the state — so a pardon can’t stop it. R451, Interesting about Charles Krathammer. I never liked him, way too right wing, and hadn't noticed his column has been missing for a while. Still, it sucks to die before expected. He was more intellectual than most righties.

I am so sick of these boomers. Trump is a Russian puppet, and they are all compromised. We have a crime lord doing foreign policy?

Why don't the Democrats educate the public this Summer about how they can take back the house? Nancy is almost 80 and not modern

by Anonymousreply 478June 9, 2018 2:31 AM

Trump is so blatant about the collusion with Russia and his preference for dictators over leaders of democracies. He really believes he's above the law and will get way with his crimes. There were news reports tonight of more behind the scenes maneuvers to kill off Obamacare and Sessions undermining the rule of law as well. There were also news clips of Ronald Reagan talking about democracy and the importance of our allies in a speech in England in the 80s. He sounded positively left wing in his praise of free press and freedom to live as you want. I simply don't understand how regular Americans can support trump. He despises us and thinks us fools while he has the divine right of kinds. It's disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 479June 9, 2018 2:45 AM

R478. I'm a boomer and they type of people we have in trump's government in that age group now were assholes way back when most of us were rebelling and protesting to make our culture more inclusive and equal. They were an aberration then and an aberration now.

People that attack Pelosi have gone full in with the Repug smear machine. You are doing the Repug's work for them, idiots. Pelosi was one of the most effective Speakers in the history of the country. The Repugs DO NOT want to deal with her again. Stop being so stupid, especially you Bernbros...and it's always Bernbros.

by Anonymousreply 482June 9, 2018 3:06 AM

Ok, I’ll be pummeled for this, but Mueller seems to be taking his sweet time. Meanwhile, the country is falling into criminal destruction territory. The 1% are getting richer, lies and corruption are rampant, Trump has allowed Russia to control him and the national policies , he is a fool to our allies.

Mueller, this investigation is not for your aggrandizement but to save the foundation of our country. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just effective to get rid of this ass clown and his crooked family and friends. Tick toc. Tick toc. Get a move on dude.

Unfortunately true R482, unfortunately true.

by Anonymousreply 484June 9, 2018 3:18 AM

R483, if Mueller plays the big cards and gives his report to Congress before the elections, the outcome could literally be the Repug controlled Congress saying, "Oh, that's nice. We don't see anything here. Thanks for your service, Mr. Mueller." and then do NOTHING. Do you really want Mueller to give his report to Ryan, Nunes, and McTurtle?

by Anonymousreply 485June 9, 2018 3:26 AM

Trump has to be eliminated.

He is a Russian agent. He just proved it again this afternoon, by saying he wants Russia to rejoin the G7 (!?). He is doing Putin's bidding.

He is unilaterally destroying the democratic world order with these tariffs and Twitter attacks. He is not representing America's interests. He is holding America hostage.

One man should not have this much power. Take him out.

Retired US Army Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, the former Fox News military analyst, asserted during a CNN interview Wednesday, that Vladimir Putin had "some kind of grip on Trump," pointing to the US president's documented affinity toward Putin and his hesitation to speak critically of the Kremlin.

Peters, who trained in Russian studies and the Russian language and who has experience with Russian intelligence officers, said Trump's public behavior showed signs of someone who may be compromised...

ITA R489. I’ve been in prison 3 times. The cops didn’t let me dilly dally after the crimes. Arrested and locked up. Infuriating indeed. Let’s get this show on the road. What the fuck are we waiting for?

He’s a crook, Don Jr is a crook, Jared is a crook, the Princess daughter is dirty. Lock em all up like they did to me. Pronto. Before he wrecks the country.

by Anonymousreply 491June 9, 2018 4:09 AM

No, r483; it DOES have to be perfect. Irrefutable. Inescapable. Undeniable. EPIC.

by Anonymousreply 492June 9, 2018 4:15 AM

So, if that takes the next 6 years of investigations, that’s OK? I don’t think we have that luxury.

Just get him out. We don’t need a report that is War and Peace. Just enough to get the job done.

by Anonymousreply 493June 9, 2018 4:19 AM
It doesn’t have to be perfect, just effective to get rid of this ass clown and his crooked family and friends.

Yes, it does. There has to be no wiggle room, no escape hatch for him to slip out through. The Republicans in the House and Senate have to be given no opportunity to feel that they can vote to acquit or refuse to impeach without ruining their own futures. They have to be forced to choose between Trump and themselves.

by Anonymousreply 494June 9, 2018 4:22 AM

"Just enough to get the job done. " Yes, r493. But what WOULD "get the job done"?

A report that stops gun-toting ready-to-riot Deplorables in their tracks. A report that shuts up Trump, Ryan, and McConnell. A report that stiffens the spines of every Democratic politician and shames the conscience of every Republican one. A report that shocks the theretofore ignorant among us.

A report that is not only a litany of felonies, but one that is also a delineation of crimes against the United States, aka: TREASON.

by Anonymousreply 495June 9, 2018 4:29 AM

The worse thing about this mess is that 53% of THE PUBLIC dont even know there have been indictments, guilty pleas, and actual prison time served....

And its not Fox News fault ( for the larger majority).....they just dont care, they dont pay attention.....thats the bigger problem.

by Anonymousreply 496June 9, 2018 4:35 AM

I don’t want Trump to go first.

I want complicit members of GOP Congress to go first. Pelosi takes over as speaker.

Get rid of Pence á la Agnew.

Arrest Hannity and clean house at Fox News. Shep takes charge and brings Trumplandia up to speed with accurate accounts of what has happened to date, whether they believe it or not.

Then arrest Trump’s inner circle/family. Deport Melania and son.

Impeach, indict Trump.

Seize all Trump assets and reimburse the American people for every plane trip, golf game, SS escort, lawyer fee and whore payoff.

by Anonymousreply 499June 9, 2018 7:50 AM

Mueller SHOULD bring his findings to a Republican controlled senate and be denied. That sure would rile up the masses to vote in as many members of the Democratic Party they can. Timing would be everything though, because the conservative senators could potentially stall the whole thing after the mid-term election.

by Anonymousreply 500June 9, 2018 9:52 AM

R500, you don't have the process quite right. Mueller's report is filed with Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein. He has to decide what to do with it. In all likelihood he will present it to the Congress. It will then be referred to the Judiciary Committee and the members will conduct hearings to determine if the evidence warrants articles of impeachment -- in the nature of an indictment -- which the Committee will vote on. Those articles go to the full House of Representatives where they are voted up or down. Once Trump is impeached, the action then shifts to the Senate where the trial and removal from office will take place.

So, the suggestion that Mueller should present the findings initially to the Senate "and be denied" doesn't exactly fit into how the process needs to play out. It sounds as if you want to jump right to the trial, but it doesn't work that way.

by Anonymousreply 501June 9, 2018 11:16 AM

r501 Can Rosenstein release the report to the public or does Congress make that decision?

by Anonymousreply 502June 9, 2018 11:55 AM

There will be great pressure to make the report public immediately upon its completion. Plus, even if they don't, Congress leaks like a sieve. That report will be in the NY Times and the WaPo about five minutes after they get it.

by Anonymousreply 503June 9, 2018 12:12 PM

I think there is something to keep in mind. Mueller is meticulous. He has to be. So it has to be airtight. It has to be thorough. But keep in mind. Mueller is a Conservative Republican. Not in the way that we define Conservatives today. Today they are Neanderthals. But Mueller strongly believes in our institutions. He does not want a POTUS who's a criminal. Even as he investigates he is going to go at it with respect for the office of the POTUS. He is going to give Trump every benefit of the doubt.

Trump's people think he is deliberately trying to set up Trump by asking for an interview on the Obstruction. But the flip side is that he wants to be seen to be making the effort to give the POTUS a chance to explain his "state of mind" and his intent when he fired Comey. I think we are going to be surprised and a little bit pissed off at the effort Mueller is going to make regarding the "presumption of innocence."

There is a particular perspective that some Republican politicians share about Trump. Yes he has an enormous ego, and an unattractive personality. He is a celebrity. He doesn't understand politics. He was misled by bad people because he is an amateur. But did he know? Did he orchestrate? Now, one of the most damning things is that letter. We recently get confirmation that he in fact knew about and dictated the letter on the plane. So that is not good news for him. It's hard for us to believe he knew nothing, he endorsed no course of action. We believe he colluded. But Mueller's task is to prove it. There can be no doubt of it.

I firmly believe Trump was approached by Russians on Putin's behalf, and he agreed to cooperate, was flattered to think they wanted to make him President. I believe this started "cooking" about 2007-2011. When we see the threads of this coming together, with Cambridge Analytica, and Russian Troll farms, and former Israeli Intelligence people and the Saudis, etc. it's just too obvious that they planned this and they did it with his cooperation.

So yes, IMO the Con Man conspired to defraud the United States. It is Treason. Maybe in his mind, with his contempt for the rule of law, and for government, he saw himself just being a greedy, underhanded businessman/con man. But this is Treason. And he knew it was treason. He didn't care. Because he believes that everyone has a price. and he's bought off lots politicians and seen people buy off politicians enough to know that "everbody is corrupt."

Mueller has to prove it. I believe Mueller is very close, he is closing in, and he is also very sensitive to the Midterms. He knows Trump is perfectly capable of planning "something" depending on the outcome of the midterms. IMO Trump will fire Sessions, Rosenstein and shut Mueller down after the midterms no matter what the outcome is. He may even do it a few days before. If I were placing a bet I'd say that the week before the Midterms is going to be the time to worry.

by Anonymousreply 504June 9, 2018 12:38 PM

R504, that would be a blunder of monumental proportions. I'm not saying he wouldn't do it, because he is an impulsive, reckless, and ultimately destructive fool. But it would probably guarantee Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate and ultimately Trump's removal from office.

by Anonymousreply 505June 9, 2018 12:51 PM

She really can't stand that filthy fat pig. And I'll bet he's terrified of her. He knows she knows where all his skeletons are hidden. I hope, if it happens, that she is the one primarily responsible for bringing that shitstain down.

by Anonymousreply 506June 9, 2018 1:16 PM

This crime extends further than fat donnie. The unsealed indictments are online, implicating members of congress as working with manafort at the behest of russia. If I didn’t already have such contempt for their stupidity (and despite it all, they are dumb - and weak), I’d be queasy.

by Anonymousreply 507June 9, 2018 1:24 PM

Mueller is a RICO expert.

Trump somehow does not see himself as a crime boss of a crime family.

Good for us.

Mangiante Papadopoulos, who's been making waves this past week, had something of an oopsie:
Mangiante Papadopoulos, 34, said her husband never acted in a way to collude with Russia to meddle with the election. “I have more ties to Russia than he does,” she stated during the I-Team interview.
Goudie: “What are your ties to Russia?
Mangiante Papadopoulos: “No, I was joking. I’ve been to Russia for work, I have visited Russia, I have a few friends in Russia, so I was joking saying I have more ties to Russia than George.”

Mangiante claims to be Italian but apparently the widely held belief is that she's Russian.

by Anonymousreply 511June 9, 2018 2:30 PM

I think we’re all anxious because we don’t exactly know what’s going on behind the scenes of the Mueller investigation. They have not leaked one iota of anything (leaks have come from others). So we don’t really know what he has or doesn’t have, where the investigation is, and what his game plan is moving forward. That creates tremendous angst among us, since trump continues to take actions to erode and destroy the fabric of our nation while we wait.

by Anonymousreply 512June 9, 2018 2:31 PM

R511 she is definitely Russian. Probably how Papadapoulus got the gig

by Anonymousreply 513June 9, 2018 2:38 PM

Has there been any discussion abut the Reporter who's phone records and e-mail records were seized in secret during a DOJ investigation? And if the FBI arrested a Senate staffer for "lying to the FBI" then what about all the little fuckers like Donnie, Jr. and Jared? You know those fuckers lied.

by Anonymousreply 525June 9, 2018 9:41 PM

Mueller, aka the FBI, hasnt talked to any of the Trumps yet with the exception of Kushner. Jr testified for the House Intelligence committee......and if he even tried to give the same performance to Mueller, he will spend many, many years in prison.

by Anonymousreply 526June 9, 2018 10:27 PM

I love these threads but have been traveling and therefore unable to follow them very closely. Could someone please explain in a nutshell how in the hell Jared Kushner got his full security clearance back? Wasn't it determined that he was trying to establish a back channel with Russia? How the fuck could Mueller say he's in the clear now?

by Anonymousreply 527June 9, 2018 10:31 PM

R527, I believe Trump gave himself the power to give anyone full security clearance all on his own and then gave it to Jared.

by Anonymousreply 528June 9, 2018 10:38 PM

Thank you, R528. I just remember hearing something to the effect that Jared had been "cleared" by Mueller's investigation and that's why he got his security clearances back. All I could think was you gotta be fucking kidding me.

by Anonymousreply 529June 9, 2018 10:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 532June 10, 2018 3:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 535June 10, 2018 3:30 AM

R533 It was also reported that Trump had a private meeting with Putin at the last summit. It was 3 people: Putin, Trump, and Putin's interpreter. Trump was all by himself so who knows what came out of his mouth.

by Anonymousreply 536June 10, 2018 5:46 AM

According to Maddow it happened just around the time that the meeting at Trump Tower was being described as a discussion about adoption. Maddow says Trump claimed after he and Putin spoke, that it was about adoption, and Putin then confirmed it. They were getting their stories straight, R536.

I think the GOP Congress is starting to turn on Trump. At least he is not getting support for his latest debacle. The feud with the G& allies, and his trade and tariffs bullshit has pissed off the Koch brothers and they are not having it. Grassley, McConnell and Ryan. They also criticized him about pardoning himself. It's not much but it's something.

by Anonymousreply 537June 10, 2018 12:17 PM

I'm sorry, R537, but I see no evidence that congress is "starting to turn on Trump."

Silence =/= Condemnation

by Anonymousreply 538June 10, 2018 1:26 PM

Yes, "turning on Trump" would mean holding hearings about his treasonous activities -- for a start. This Rethuglican Congress has completely abandoned its oversight responsibilities. They are letting this bunch of thieves and felons get away with anything. The fact that Scott Pruitt is still in office is a disgrace.

It will be delightful to see them start to squirm when the Dems retake the House (and maybe the Senate), and we start to get real oversight hearings. It won't be pretty -- but it will be a lot of fun to watch.

by Anonymousreply 539June 10, 2018 1:45 PM

Get the fuck out of here with that wildly inaccurate nonsense, R540. That stupid, inane, reich-wing fantasy has been debunked several hundred times over. Hell, even Faux News' Shep Smith said it was completely inaccurate. You're either a blithering idiot who is willfully ignorant of the facts or a Russian troll. Or both -- the two are not mutually exclusive.

by Anonymousreply 541June 10, 2018 1:58 PM

Trump has a severe case of Oppositional Defiant Disorder as usually seen in children. In his case it's a life-long affliction. It makes him extremely dangerous.

"The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published by the American Psychiatric Association, lists criteria for diagnosing ODD. The DSM-5 criteria include emotional and behavioral symptoms that last at least six months.

Angry and irritable mood:

Often and easily loses temper

Is frequently touchy and easily annoyed by others

Is often angry and resentful

Argumentative and defiant behavior:

Often argues with adults or people in authority

Often actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules

Often deliberately annoys or upsets people

Often blames others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior

Vindictiveness:

Is often spiteful or vindictive

Has shown spiteful or vindictive behavior at least twice in the past six months." In trumps case this occurs daily.

The Democrats do Nothing to counter Rudy Ghouliani's attacks on Mueller. Neither GOP or Dems are doing squat. It's like both sides just can't move. No impassioned speeches denouncing the real and lasting damage Trump is doing. He is becoming just another Autocrat, kleptocrat. I am trying to stay optimistic but this just cannot go on. I know Mueller is being thorough and professional but I'm afraid it's going to be for nothing if things don't happen soon. Fuck Mueller still hasn't interviewed the Kushners or Don,, jr. Oh well. For my sanity I have to accept that all I can do is vote.

by Anonymousreply 566June 10, 2018 10:49 PM

R566. I question if Mueller even needs to interview them. Just LOOK at the amount of evidence that is fucking public knowledge!!!! Think of a RICO case — do you really think the government interviews all the players in a KNOWN criminal enterprise? Why? Why would they tip their hand? I think this is closer to coming to a head than we can understand. But I hear you, I’m a mess too.

by Anonymousreply 567June 10, 2018 11:03 PM

Thank you r567....Ive been saying Mueller DOES NOT need or have to interview Trump or his family AT ALL....its nothing more than a courtesy on his part. The only way Mueller would NEED to talk to them is if the evidence is contradictory or vague.....and neither apply here.....when the shit hits the fan, it will be massive and out of the blue.

by Anonymousreply 568June 10, 2018 11:10 PM

Mueller has to be seen to be making the effort to be scrupulously fair and above politics. He may have the whole fucking family ten times over, but can't act like he does at this point.

by Anonymousreply 569June 10, 2018 11:26 PM

R566 is the "It's HOPELESS!" Troll.

by Anonymousreply 570June 10, 2018 11:38 PM

When this kind of trade skirmish becomes part of the problem, governors, regardless of their political stripes, should be entering the fold.

by Anonymousreply 571June 10, 2018 11:50 PM

A quorum on a Federal Grand Jury to indict trying Trump and his family members is not that difficult given all the evidenc. The US attorney need only show there is enough evidence to bring an indictment, there is no discussion of guilt or innocence.

by Anonymousreply 572June 10, 2018 11:53 PM

What do you want the Dems to do? They are powerless.

by Anonymousreply 573June 10, 2018 11:53 PM

Anything Trump is doing now has to have an end benefit to Russia. That much is clear from his G7 behavior. But what else can he do?

I can't see how shifting to coal for thermal power benefits coal miners or Russians. North eastern states are locked into inexpensive hydro power from Quebec. Ontario should be so lucky.

by Anonymousreply 574June 11, 2018 12:01 AM

Mueller was originally tasked to look in to whether or not Drumpf obstructed justice when firing Comey, right?

Did Drumpf not outright admit in an interview that he fired Comey in order to end the Russia Investigation?

by Anonymousreply 575June 11, 2018 12:28 AM

Yes, R575, although he has changed his story multiple times.

by Anonymousreply 576June 11, 2018 12:30 AM

Mueller isn't in any hurry to interview the trump family because he knows that all he will get from them will be lies. Let him continue to gather more evidence with which to easily refute those lies and provide grounds arrest.

by Anonymousreply 577June 11, 2018 12:33 AM

^ grounds for arrest

by Anonymousreply 578June 11, 2018 12:34 AM

I'll try to be nice to Rudy Giuliani by saying his assertion that Trump, and presumably all the other defendants in that grifter extended family, HAVE to be interviewed, questioned, whatever - it's what would be done for a plea deal. It's not required. Generally it's done to save the state money. I can't see that happening in this case.

No one has to be interviewed or questioned. Giuliani is merely stating his own methods.

by Anonymousreply 579June 11, 2018 12:48 AM

Where is Melania again?

by Anonymousreply 580June 11, 2018 1:43 AM

She’s watching the Tony Awards, planning to improve Middle East relations with that young Arab dude in The Band’s Visit.

by Anonymousreply 581June 11, 2018 1:49 AM

I wonder if she fucks her Security Detail... and if Drumpf watches while she does.

by Anonymousreply 582June 11, 2018 2:49 AM

DeNiro yelled “FUCK TRUMP” twice at the Tony Awards but got bleeped, of course.

by Anonymousreply 583June 11, 2018 2:51 AM

Can't wait to see what Drumpf tweets about that, R583... because you know that's what'll be most important to him tomorrow.

And you know what else? When you recognize that this is being handled *exactly* like a RICO case, then you also begin to understand just how ludicrous Rudy and his blathering about interviews and “talking to Bobby Mueller” is ROFL!!! It is the most cartoonish amount of smoke and mirrors fathomable. There will be NO interviews of the shysters. Fuck me.

by Anonymousreply 586June 11, 2018 3:10 AM

R586, I agree, but I think Rudy is simply playing to Trump's base. He more than anyone, nkows he's peddling bullshit. But the MAGAs hang on his every word. Mayor 9/11 is their go to authority. So are Pirro and Hannity. It's a motley group of losers but in their parallel universe that is their truth.

by Anonymousreply 587June 11, 2018 3:15 AM

If Manafort goes to jail on the 15th, that has to send a message.

by Anonymousreply 588June 11, 2018 3:17 AM

Oh but it will NOT r588! I’m straight up NOT kidding, it will N.O.T. They will nooooooooot give a fuck that his god damn CAMPAIGN MANAGER goes to prison!!!

I’m a history buff, though by no means an expert. Where can we find other examples of history wherein there was sooooooo much corruption and lies being shoveled at the general population, and how was this overcome? I think of the American Wild West — totally corrupt, but of course, not this level of sophisticated propaganda. Germany WW2? Nixon? The Roman Empire? French Revolution??? I think the answer lies “partially” in the past.

by Anonymousreply 589June 11, 2018 3:22 AM

I forgot, the Salem Witch Trials? Spanish Inqusition? This has happened before!! Surely we can solve this. And fuck that “but what can the Dems do” bullshit!!! Those mother fuckers should be in sleeping bags on the capital steps refusing to participate in a fucking THING and calling out this treason hourly!!!

We need some fucking HEROS!!! Every time this SOB’s take out one if our guys (the Senste staffer this week?!?!?!?). Start a GoFund Me, throw money at it, print T-shirt’s that say Fuck Trump Fuck Treason Fuck Russia!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 590June 11, 2018 3:28 AM

Aussie TV didn’t censor DeNiro. Here he is...

FUCK TRUMP!

Good on Deniro.

by Anonymousreply 592June 11, 2018 4:07 AM

R591. Thanks for posting that clip. Fuck Trump! Goddamnit that made me happy. Congress may not think much of celebrities but they got more balls than any member of Congress. Someone on another board suggested all living ex presidents need to do a PSA against Pres. Swine. Or let's sic the Parkland students on his ass and not let go. At least Avenatti is going after Ghouliani. Trying to dig up evidence that Miss Rudy has a porn habit. I have a feeling Rudy has some major skeletons in his closet that Trump knows about. Ditto Douchewitz and Hannity. Maybe some underage girls or boys? the weaselly Democrats better go on the attack. take no prisoners.

by Anonymousreply 593June 11, 2018 4:14 AM

Fuck the It's So Hopeless troll. Fuck it right up the ass.

This is America. People didn't sit around in 1942 going It's So Hopeless. The volunteered for the military, they planted Victory gardens, they bought war bonds, they went to work in the factories. They raised their families, made sacrifices, and won. They were your grandparents and great-grandparents. Those tough old spirits live on in you.

Anyone today can work on the many re-enfranchisement campaigns, sent postcards to registered Democrats in swing districts, write letters to the editor, confront disinformation online with facts, support investigative journalism, join an Indivisible group, get involved in Swing Left and take back the House.

And I'd bet Russia is on a first name basis with all of them.
