Perfect thread title!

by Anonymousreply 2March 21, 2018 7:05 AM

YAY! It was me who came up with the tittle two threads ago !! I am so honored.

Anyway, Ari Melber talked about how Mark Zuckerberg went personally to Russia (2-3 years ago) to meet the Kremlin's number 2 guy.

@TheBeatWithAri :
Mark Zuckerberg "went personally to meet with Russia's number 2 person at the Kremlin" for Facebook business interests.

Now, I remember talking about Zuckerberg's suspicious trip to Russia a few years ago. He went there to help companies like VK (One of Europe's biggest social media sites) "enhance" their services. If you seen VK, it is very much like Facebook now. Almost the same layout which begs the question, why has Facebook allowed this? And if VK, which has been accused of being used by the Kremlin to track people, now has the ability to steal information from users back in Europe, would they have used that data to spread misinformation in Eastern European countries?

How did Facebook benefited from helping VK and meeting with the Kremlin?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3March 21, 2018 7:20 AM

Here is his visit to a popular Russian late night show, where he clearly says he was there to help some Russian social sites (VK) become more "efficient" and Facebook like.

The good Russians never stood a chance... and who knows what Suckerberg and Facebook have done in with data

by Anonymousreply 6March 21, 2018 9:08 AM

So what can we expect from the upcoming Inspector General's report?

by Anonymousreply 7March 21, 2018 10:59 AM

So the Trump presidency is the result of a perfect storm, a fusion of Breitbart, Cambridge Analytica and Facebook. The Wall, the anti immigrant stance, the use of phrases like "deep state" "drain the swamp" the mining of data that uncovered vast swaths of alienated young people "with a conservative bent" the testing of Putin...he tested positive in focus groups... apparently there are a lot of young people and other people who love a strong authoritarian figure, so it's image and perception rather than what Putin has done. His ruthlessness and greed apparently aren't important. What a shit mess. Essentially we've turned the country over to a maniac, based on the preferences of a minority with tiki torches.

So I guess they wanted to construct a more positive image of Putin, but then they test marketed him and discovered that among the alienated and grievance oriented ignorant demographic, particularly the young Meth heads, Putin was cool, so no problem. Putin was always part of this equation, and his operation worked closely with the CA/ Breitbart/Mercers/Jared/ Facebook Trump Campaign. In fact it's my surmise that Trump brought the Russians to the table to merge them with the Bannon/CA/Mercers.

Re Alan Dershowitz and Cheeto’s tweets this morning

The heady appeal of the jackbooted authoritarian. It’s not even a new phenomenon. Sad @AlanDersh would throw away his reputation for a banal dotard puppet, the creation of a Russian megalomaniac, a gin-blossomed white nationalist & some avaricious British effetes at Cambridge Analytica. Sad. Ish

by Anonymousreply 16March 21, 2018 1:12 PM

It's interesting how certain publications emerge during a crisis. I remember during Watergate (yes I am OLD) the Washington Post was the absolute Go To source of information. In our house, and I was only 11-12 at the time, everyone hated Nixon. Now I still have absolute confidence in the Post but I am rediscovering just how good Mother Jones is, and Atlantic Magazine is turning out some fantastic good stuff on a regular basis. That's the traditional print media. New Yorker comes through too. But the online stuff like Raw Story, Think Progress, Daily Kos, Daily beast, Politico, and a few others are stepping up too. On TV first there's Rachel Maddow, then there's everyone else, and mostly on MSNBC. Once in a while ABC will get a scoop, but it's mostly MSNBC & NBC. I really like the panelists they have on to discuss things. As much as I love Jake Tapper I cannot watch him attempt to discuss issues with Nina Turner. She is repulsive to me and she seems like a regular lately. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 17March 21, 2018 1:19 PM

So this Sunday night is when Stormy Daniels airs on '60 Minutes.' Also this weekend is the March on DC against the NRA. Trump HAS to do something to take the media's attention off Stormy Daniels. Will the march be enough? If not, what will Trump do late Sunday afternoon to take the focus off Stormy Daniels?

by Anonymousreply 18March 21, 2018 1:23 PM

At the very least the Monday 4am tweets should be epic.

by Anonymousreply 19March 21, 2018 1:28 PM

R17 you’re giving the media WAY too much credit. Sure they’re breathlessly reporting every scoop and scandal by the hour all a’titter with barely disguised glee. “Slow news day, huh (hahaha).. And it’s only 5pm (hahaha).” But where the fuck were they in 2016 when they were supposed to be vetting this Mofo instead of acting like his stenographer and playing the “both sides” charade? #TheyHadOneJob

by Anonymousreply 20March 21, 2018 1:34 PM

R17 here. I completely agree with you, R20. They went for $$$ instead of doing their jobs, aided by Giuliani's whispers about the imminent indictment of HRC. and James Comey's unprofessional public pronouncements. It had to be really upsetting and demoralizing for the actual working journalists who were getting threatened and abused on a daily basis by Trump and his minions. But it seems to me that the media (probably still motivated by profits to a large degree) especially the working journalists who got pissed on by Trump and his people, are having their day. And the guys in the suits are very sensitive to ratings. They are finally getting the fact that the American people are largely demanding they cover this shitmess the way it deserves to be covered.

by Anonymousreply 21March 21, 2018 1:48 PM

I also want to say that David Korn from Mother Jones, and the features I've read in The Atlantic and the New Yorker are solid investigative pieces. Investigative journalism takes a lot of effort and research so they working and more important, they are being allowed to work stories in a way they were not allowed to in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 22March 21, 2018 1:51 PM

From R8's link:

The year before Trump announced his presidential bid, the data firm already had found a high level of alienation among young, white Americans with a conservative bent.

In focus groups arranged to test messages for the 2014 midterms, these voters responded to calls for building a new wall to block the entry of illegal immigrants, to reforms intended the “drain the swamp” of Washington’s entrenched political community and to thinly veiled forms of racism toward African Americans called “race realism."

by Anonymousreply 23March 21, 2018 1:51 PM

Cambridge Analytica would have been a good subject for investigative journalism back in 2016. Just sayin

But you’re right about a lot of what you say about the working journalists who weren’t making the big editorial decisions

by Anonymousreply 24March 21, 2018 1:54 PM

Yep.

If there is one thing I remember about 2011-2014 reddit is that there were images of shirtless Putin on his horse fucking EVERYWHERE. Reddit is filled with young straight white men, and everybody knows young men are insecure and straight men loooove machismo. Said posts ALWAYS had comments jerking off about how manly that picture is and how manly Putin is.

Thinking back, that was Russians pushing those pics and probably planting the first comments and upvoting them. Cause with reddit the algorithm makes it so if you post comments and upvote early, you can pretty much have the thread be whatever you want it to be and push it to the front page with ease.

Pretty chilling how smart Putin is to have done this over so long, without anybody wondering what the fuck is up, and to such a degree of effectiveness.

by Anonymousreply 31March 21, 2018 2:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 32March 21, 2018 3:00 PM

R31, I agree, Putin is smart, but not that damned smart. it's basically the principles applied to doing market research, and marketing and advertising practices taken to a higher level and using technology to give it that "steroid" boost. And observing and analyzing the way American professionals plan and conduct political campaigns. This was bound to happen at some point. We were supposed to be smarter. We should have anticipated it. Insulating ourselves against cyber attacks isn't enough. All the "dark money" flooding into our political system since Citizens United decision by SCOTUS, and the laxity in terms of foreign involvement in our political campaigns or in lobbying our government. The rules and the restraints we needed were absent. So was the education of American voters. We assumed most people would "get it." Putin and Russia are the enemy. Instead we have a bunch of assholes thinking he's cool.

by Anonymousreply 36March 21, 2018 3:12 PM

R31

Close but I think the situation is more accurately characterized as a long-con by the GOP going back a lot further, starting with the Southern Strategy, elimination of the Fairness Doctrine, right wing AM radio, Fox News Etc. White people have been primed for decades to be diasaffected and to scapegoat immigrants and POC by the very people who closed their factories and moved thier jobs overseas or to MX. They’ve also been taught to mistrust the value of education by the same people who destroyed their schools.

Putin was just smart enough to recognize this and to get in bed with the GOP for his own self interest.

Bottom line is Republicans over the 40 years have destroyed this country, purposefully, in their unquenchable thirst for $ and power. Now they’ve hooked up with a Russian psychopath to further thier goals. They don’t care about Americans or the Big Lie that is the United States of America

by Anonymousreply 37March 21, 2018 3:14 PM
emperor really has no clothes, doesn’t it? . It’s like he was created in a lab by a evil cabal of avaricious and venal white men

R38 True. They'll probably select one that controls his anger and isn't a narcissistic dumbass next time.

by Anonymousreply 42March 21, 2018 4:38 PM

I guess we can take some small measure of comfort knowing that the only way the GOP wins is by cheating. Cheating through companies that use spying and blackmail. Cheating through manipulating voters with lies through social media. Cheating through cyber attacks from a hostile foreign power. Cheating through gerrymandering. Cheating though conservative media.

It's actually pretty staggering just how far they have to go, how much they have to cheat, in order to win an election.

Not sure anyone with Brennan's standing has said it, giving it yet more weight, and dismissing the growing attempts to discredit Mueller. To cite DL, 'There, I said it.' Inviting many many more to do the same.

Every voice with a solid reputation - not too hard to find outside Trump culture - helps both to underline what seems all too insultingly obvious, and to counter desperate lying distraction tactics.

Military-associated figures such as Brennan and Peters speaking out is commendable; so are the recent comments from McCain who is terminally ill.

But the rest of the House and Senate Republicans are so disgusting. Those wishy-washy statements about protecting Mueller are so lame. The so-called condemning statements of Trump congratulating Putin are measuredly quite weak. Enough of Miss Lindz's meatless statements, void of sufficient disdain, and blasted all over the media. She ain't critiquing the menz at the bass tournament from last weekend. Do something beyond meekly talk on the fence. She pursued attacking the FBI and DOJ over FISA and diversions aimed at HRC, again and again.

McTurtle, whose beard is in Trump's cabinet, with his turkey snoods flapping, refuses to show any overt distaste for Trump's action. Ryan shows no shame and has has approved the shananigans of Nunes and company. Other than Jeff Flake who is leaving, none of them are showing backbone.

Many of the dems are a little too muted as well. Are they afraid to be called names in Trump's tweets?

Congress has plenty of evidence to address this mess. They have a 'checks and balances' role, regardless of party, to do their jobs beyond sucking-up to major donors.

by Anonymousreply 60March 21, 2018 6:27 PM

Also it forces them to defend watersports which most people are embarrassed about and are willing to laugh at over.

Kinda like how the diaper boy at Kent State ruined their conservative youth organization because people inside were embarrassed and people online kept laughing at them.

by Anonymousreply 61March 21, 2018 6:31 PM

A guy like Putin doesn't go in bed with the GOP. He does what in the business world is called a hostile takeover. Bribe and blackmail isn't doing simple business with someone, it's about owning someone and that someone better does his owner's bidding.

Bingo.

Not to rehash the whole Hillary thing, but what I noticed during the election is that my friends who had social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) had this depressed feeling about Hillary. They were going to vote for her, but thought she was a terrible candidate. Those of us who weren't on Facebook or anything were much more enthused.

I also think that the whole social media-ization of America has led to our rejection of ideas that can't be communicated in a meme. Hillary spoke in complete sentences and expressed complex thoughts. Trump shouted easily-digestible slogans. People don't want to read a five thousand word piece in the NY Times. They want a headline that tells them how to feel.

by Anonymousreply 77March 21, 2018 7:51 PM

R74 if this is true, it is a demonstration of how completely amateur and ignorant Jared is and Trump for acting on this. They are beyond stupid to do the bidding of a foreign country. All they care about is their own personal agenda. They are greedy bastards who don't deserve to be called Americans. They have to go.

Sen. Corker is claiming the GOP Congress is timid about protecting Mueller because they a re afraid of Trump's popularity with their base. I call bullshit. Who among them really believes they will be able to survive the midterms? Fine. Let Trump be Trump. Let him crap all over the TV sets. It sure helped them win in Virginia. Alabama. PA.

Paul Ryan just may survive the Midterm slaughter. But he will not be Speaker. Right now they want Trump to be more Presidential. Meet with North Korea. Talk about the Wall, and the "illegal immigrants" & highlight the tax bill. T

They're going to try to pass a Spending Bill that will blow up the deficit even further. Right now. This is a bribe for their constituents. And what they will not tell their constituents is that they will definitely cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as soon as they're re elected.

by Anonymousreply 78March 21, 2018 7:53 PM
Sen. Corker is claiming the GOP Congress is timid about protecting Mueller because they a re afraid of Trump's popularity with their base.

Please, this isn't about being afraid of some minority hate group. It's about being afraid how far Mueller's investigation goes and their own crimes being uncovered.

by Anonymousreply 79March 21, 2018 8:06 PM
And what they will not tell their constituents is that they will definitely cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as soon as they're re elected.

In all likelihood, they won't --thankfully -- get that chance to make those cuts because their Reign of Error should be ended by the voters in November. Yes, a lot can happen in seven months, and we should work like hell between now and then to make sure the Dems prevail. But, I'd be willing wager that these clowns are in for a very rude awakening on the morning after Election Day.

And, I love Nancy Pelosi, but no one had better be making any ridiculously stupid statements about "impeachment being off the table" this time around. This is not 2007, and the Orange Dotard is not Bu$h -- as bad as he was. The current situation represents the dire conditions that the Founders reserved for the use of the impeachment clause of the Constitution.

by Anonymousreply 80March 21, 2018 8:08 PM

Actually, I think Corker has a point. We can say it’s only 30% of the country, but that 30% is more than 50% of the GOP. If they lose that 30%, they’ll get primaried.

Maybe they're counting in pooty and company to come thru for them again in the midterms?

Because that's the only way they will prevail.

Or maybe they're hoping they get the boot so the GOP that is left after the bloodbath can say they didn't have anything to do with the dotard impeachment.

Seems to me that these idiots don't do anything but play to their shrinking base.

DL is now the closest thing I get to "social media". I can always spot the bots or the programmed posts. It has been so frustrating to watch normally smart people I know being brainwashed with the Talking Points being fed to them on facebook and twitter. I couldn't take the noise of any of it, so I escaped the deluge, luckily. None of this data nonsense surprises me, though.

I hate people who have to announce they've blocked. So I block the people who announce they block! BLOCKED!!!

by Anonymousreply 86March 21, 2018 8:20 PM

I think the trolls are getting a little craftier though. I've noticed a few of them who actually take the time to participate like "regular' posters and then over the course of a few posts they subtly start trolling by posting Rethug talking points, etc.

You can still generally tell by their history though. It'll only have a few posts in just the current thread.

Like in the last thread where the one troll tried to argue that they didn't clear their cookies and obviously did... and when got called out. POOF! Gone.

by Anonymousreply 87March 21, 2018 8:22 PM

I was out and Fox news was playing on one of the TVs. Some blonde chick was going off on how both parties are so "offended," by Orange congratulating his Master and how it was ridiculous and showed how stupid people were... and how the "mainstream media," keeps trying to create a false story.

I mean, there's obviously a lot wrong with what she was saying, everything, basically... but why does Fox refer to all other news sources as "Main Stream Media.." Aren't THEY also the MSM???

Yeah, I know why they do it. But still.

by Anonymousreply 88March 21, 2018 8:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 89March 21, 2018 8:26 PM

Well, yes, r87, there are exceptions, of course. The experience of watching a pushed narrative or "meme" take over the narrative is alarming, as no amount of counter information seemed to help.

by Anonymousreply 90March 21, 2018 8:27 PM

Smart people can be duped and manipulated like everybody else. I know, what I would consider, a very smart person (atheist) and after his mother died he was grieving and the mother was a big church nut so her church friends came over and, in his grieving state, dragged him into their fold. Same goes for smart, and rich, men falling for gold diggers and crazy, but good looking, harpies. Smart people have their weaknesses like everybody else it's just takes a con man to figure out which buttons at what time to push.

I saw on one of the photos from Putin's election "campaign' the slogan, Strong President, Strong Russia. Typical autocratic stuff.

Cheeto's delusion about "chemistry with Putin" would be just pathetic if it wasn't so dangerous. He can't get the simple Russian calculation that "strong Russia" for Putin means: puppet Trump, weak America, weak Europe.

by Anonymousreply 93March 21, 2018 8:45 PM

GREAT post, R77: I totally agree.

by Anonymousreply 94March 21, 2018 8:46 PM

It's not propaganda to say that Hillary was a polarizing figure. She always has been. Because she is a Clinton and because she's a woman. That's why she lost the primary to Obama even though she had loads more experience and was running on practically an identical platform.

That said, somehow polarizing became distorted into "she's a terrible candidate that nobody likes", "she's a criminal", "she's a warmonger" and "she's a DINO."

by Anonymousreply 95March 21, 2018 8:49 PM

The Russia-Trump connection has, as posters above and on the previous thread said, been noticed for a long time; it's only now that the dots are being more clearly connected. For example, this article was from before the election (and I'd been reading similar reporting since that spring).

The 1%, virtually to a person and because of the nature of their holdings, are not "patriots," not nationalists. They are "globalists," but again, not in any sense of "loyalty," for they pillage, plunder, and destroy the globe and its denizens without compunction and at times with glee.

No, they are globalists in the sense of going anywhere, including the Internet, to make a buck or 100 million. So if that includes canoodling with the enemies of a place called "the United States of America," even to the extent that the sucker 99% might dare call it "treason," they will so canoodle, collude, conspire, launder, slander, perjure, propagandize, lie, cheat, and steal---even murder---because money means everything to them.

Everything. Ugly wealthy men know it rules this plane of existence, and they don't worry about another.

I don't know if this was talked about in the last thread but I was listening to some pundits talk about Drumpf congratulating his Puppeteer on his, "win..." and how it went against everything the index cards told him to do/not to do.

They said that there are only a handful of people who would have known what was on those cards and the fact that they leaked it means they are either really pissed off or really terrified of what Drumpf is going to do next.
Has anyone noticed that the MSM is dropping the ball again in regards to Cambridge Analytica ? They need to be driving the point that Bannon was vp, and Kusher and Parscale bragged about their relationship with them, that Mercer funds it, and that they were washing data through the Russians. All the talk about Facebook, etc.....they need to be making the direct connection between Trump, his team, and CA.

This is why this whole fiasco can and probably will happen again. The masses aren't being educated on what the fuck is happening, what led to it, how they are affected by it, and what it being done to stop it. That will led to ignorance and then the public won't urge congress to make regulations preventing it since it is not in republicans' best interest to stop their flow of money.

Of course news that isn't Fox is mostly just wanting ratings (with Fox wanting to keep their viewers unaware of what's happening). It's why they'll talk about something that happened with very little context, and then it's out of the news cycle within 2-3 days in favor of something new. And of course that something new is related but in a probably complicated way that, again, needs tons of context that they will not provide for reasons just stated.

Rachel Maddow is probably the only person who is trying to make everything make sense for the viewers by piecing everything together.

by Anonymousreply 106March 21, 2018 9:27 PM

Jeremy Bash brought up a good point on MSNBC about an hour ago in regards to the leak. How do we know that Trump himself didn't brag to somebody about his congratulating Putin on the phone, even to go so far as to admit purposely ignoring his instructions? It's exactly something Trump would do. And either that person leaked it, or somebody else overhearing leaked it.

It would be so like Trump to loudly proclaim the leaker should be jailed without realizing it's he, himself who leaked it first.

I'm just thinking strategic and with Sessions knowing that it would not be a good strategic move to have McCabe fired. R108, please pipe in whatever you suspect that I'm not considering.

by Anonymousreply 116March 21, 2018 9:58 PM

John Brennan openly stated his theory that Putin has something on Trump and many of us exclaimed "Duh". But after some ruminating, I'm changing my mind and don't necessarily agree. I mean, Putin probably does, but there's just as good a chance Trump doesn't know about it or even care. From what we know of Trump, his narcissistic tendencies and his eagerness to please, he's basically just a Putin fangurl. He's made no secret of his admiration of Putin for years and I think he just clams up. To this day, he still desperately just wants to impress Putin and be exactly like him. David Cay Johnston is a Trump biographer, and he's been saying this for years, and I believe other Trump biographers, (like Tony Schwartz) would back Johnston up.

In certain ways, we still keep giving Trump more credit than he deserves when it comes to intelligence and forethought.
To this day, he still desperately just wants to impress Putin and be exactly like him.

While I'm sure he does admire Putin's authoritarianism, I think the primary motivating forces are his need to keep Putin from bankrupting him by squeezing his Russian money lenders, and his desire to do (more) business in Russia. It's always the money.

by Anonymousreply 120March 21, 2018 10:10 PM

John Brennan was one of the first to sound the alarm about Trump and Russia. He knows. He knows what Trump did, he knows what Russia has. He isn't just causing trouble. He knows. Clapper also called Trump a puppet months ago. These guys never talk about sitting Presidents like this. They're trying to warn people.

by Anonymousreply 121March 21, 2018 10:11 PM

Trump doesn't like-like or respect anyone (I believe he doesn't even like his own kids very much). Either you are useful to him or you are not. Putin is a special case, because I do believe Trump is scared of him since Putin can ruin him in more ways than one (business deals with Russia, money lending, money laundering, sex trafficking, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 122March 21, 2018 10:14 PM

R121 and others, can't it be both? I think it might have just as much to do with what Putin can continue to do for him, (like throw the 2020 election).

by Anonymousreply 123March 21, 2018 10:15 PM

Not enough, r117. First, Junior or Eric has explicitly noted that Trump, Inc., comprises much Russian money.

There's the Steele dossier. There's 666 Fifth Avenue. There's Ivanka's mysterious flight to Dubrovnik to meet Putin's reported gf, Wendy Murdoch. There's the Trump Tower meeting. There's Jared's attempt to establish a private "back-channel" to Putin.

There are Manafort, Page, Papadopoulous, Bannon, Sessions, ....

And there is CA and FB, and overthrowing our election.

by Anonymousreply 124March 21, 2018 10:15 PM

R117 here. I think my point is this: Brennan's specific comment suggests to many people that there is one specific incident or evidence of proof, (like the pee tapes), Putin is threatening Trump with. People always like to simplify. I think there is no one specific thing, it's all of the above mentioned and combined. Trump has numerous personal reasons to not want to piss of Putin that has to do with his own self gain and preservation. It's why Mueller's investigation is taking so damn long! " Also R122 "Trump doesn't like-like or respect anyone" except those who have more power and/or money than he does.

Both jobs are eligible for overtime. Despite his focus on restoring American jobs, Trump has also maintained that it is “almost impossible” to find qualified Americans who want temporary jobs in the service industry such as those available at many of his clubs and resorts that rely on the visa program.

by Anonymousreply 139March 22, 2018 12:45 AM

Trump has been a huge Putin fan for years. he admires the strong man. but he also recognizes that Putin is the door to untold riches. When Trump was in a jam and facing bankruptcy he got financing from banks "outside the United States" . Trump is a money launderer, and he is "this close" to getting gas and oil leases from the Russians through surrogates. He is also probably facilitating enriching his Russian friends in the process.

He loves being among the oligarchs who are close to Putin . Think about it: He was flattered that Putin not only thought he ought to run for President, but decided to help him. Think about this. Putin helped Donald Trump become POTUS. And his relationship with the Russians is making him wealthier than ever. No more scary bankruptcies.

Plus being POTUS gives him limitless opportunities to make deals with the Chinese, the Saudis, and anyone else with money, power and resources. Trump is like a pig in slop. Putin doesn't have to have "something" on Trump. No one, not even Trump's biggest fans, have any expectations of him.

So what if he's a womanizer who hangs with porn stars and strippers? And he cheats? He was living his life in public like a fucking soap opera for years. You could run a video of Trump getting a blow job on CNN and none of his supporters would give a fuck.

Since he's been POTUS he had the Russians into the Oval Office and gave away sensitive Intelligence that compromised an ally of the United States. Did anyone give a fuck? The GOP Congress certainly didn't. Look at all he has done and all he has failed to do. Where is the outrage? So I'm not buying the argument that Putin has "something" on Trump. IMO, it's all about the money. R120 is right.

Ivanka and Jared have selling US foreign policy in the Gulf to the highest bidder. Remember Qatar? We have a US base there and were a close, moderate ally. Yet after the Trump family visit to Saudi, the RU created a pretext of Qatar harboring terrorism, and the rest of the Arab states blockaded Qatar. Even though Tillerson strongly condemned the action saying it went against US policy, Trump tweet that no, Qatar needed to be punished.

Now we are finding they simply didn't pay Jared/Ivanka what they were asked for. And were punished publically to deter anyone else from resisting shakedowns. Moreover, the Saudi Crown Prince recently arrested members of his own family until kidnapping money was paid. One of them was an investor in Trump properties, another a key shareholder at Citibank. Everyone had to pay that got out; we don't know how many died. But, the prince, in effect, ended all opposition to his reign. Rumors from the Gulf are that the Saudis paid Trump Sr. a $1 billion bribe for no intervention.

This is why Putin has kompromat, because he can it outbid by others. Money alone can't keep Trump in line.

R153 I read the same German article.

by Anonymousreply 165March 22, 2018 4:39 AM

I've finally come to the same conclusion as lots of people in this thread -- I think it's video of sex with underaged girls. I can't think of anything worse in the public consciousness. Even if Trump killed someone, his base would stick with him. But a video with a 14 year old -- its curtains. Curtains, I tell you

by Anonymousreply 166March 22, 2018 5:01 AM

"I can't think of anything worse"

Two Things worse:

1) the girls are dead

2) it's boys instead of girls

by Anonymousreply 167March 22, 2018 5:17 AM

Quote your sources, R167.

by Anonymousreply 168March 22, 2018 5:23 AM

R166, I don't think that's enough to do him in. Remember Moore of Alabama, he still had a lot of votes.

by Anonymousreply 169March 22, 2018 5:40 AM

With Moore there was no hard proof that he'd had sex with underage girls. He'd certainly behaved inappropriately, but without evidence his supporters were able to deny or dismiss the accusations.

by Anonymousreply 170March 22, 2018 5:53 AM

There was an overwhelming amount of evidence against Roy Moore, R170.

And yet a huge number of people still voted for him.

by Anonymousreply 171March 22, 2018 5:59 AM

I can hear the defenders now:

"Oh, she just looks young!"

"Looks 18 to me!"

"Oh, you can't tell age by just looking at someone!"

And, last but not least, a Trump oldie but goodie...

"Show me the birth certificate!"

by Anonymousreply 172March 22, 2018 6:10 AM

Why is Kellyanne Conway getting a pass in all of this? As far as I know, she has not been interviewed by Mueller's team. She was Trump's campaign manager. You'd think Trump's campaign manager would have been interviewed by now.

by Anonymousreply 176March 22, 2018 8:03 AM

I believe Kellyanne was just the front and somebody else really ran the show behind the scenes.

by Anonymousreply 177March 22, 2018 8:24 AM

That's plausible, R177.

by Anonymousreply 178March 22, 2018 8:31 AM

^Leaker? Mercers? No verified scrutiny in this mess? Investigation Coop?

Something weird going on there.

by Anonymousreply 179March 22, 2018 8:36 AM

You know that Kellyanne was the first one to request an interview with Mueller.

As vile as that woman is, she is not dumb, she doesn’t like Trump, and I’m sure she prefers to spend holidays with her family instead of going to jail.

by Anonymousreply 180March 22, 2018 8:47 AM

I think Kellyanne is the mouthpiece for far more sinister people. Ever notice that most companies send out a woman to speak for them when they are in trouble? KAC is cooking spray on teflon.

Plus Jared & Ivanka.

OK, some others, including an Andy or two.

Wow, Kelly's working group.

Kelly, this ain't the military brass you were use to. Going from deploying brigades to having to manage pussygate scandals and showing luv for Pooty can't be uplifting.

by Anonymousreply 185March 22, 2018 11:38 AM

Kellyanne is bosom buddies with Rebekah Mercer. Unless Rebekah slighted her in some serious way (fucked Kellyanne's husband, took her favorite Gucci Bag, etc.) I don't think she would go after the Mercers and CA. Kellyanne is too status obsessed to go against her peers (again, unless her peers humiliated her in some way).

by Anonymousreply 189March 22, 2018 12:46 PM

I will not commend the FBI for taking down the Austin serial bomber. He was a misunderstood conservative genius that did not commit domestic terrorism! Also, congratulations again to my tremendous friend, Vladimir!

by Anonymousreply 190March 22, 2018 12:49 PM

Another recess r189? Didn't they just come back from one?

Geez, they barely do any work when they are there; and they take more vacations than any other profession in the world.

Congress: Nice work if you can get it.

by Anonymousreply 191March 22, 2018 12:58 PM

And R189, Trump could also take advantage of a Congressional recess to make a recess appointment of Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State. Rand Paul has stated that he will not vote to confirm Pompeo as SoS, so he may not have the 50 votes needed for Senate confirmation. A recess appointment bypasses the requirement of Senate confirmation.

by Anonymousreply 198March 22, 2018 2:36 PM

Of course his "base" won't care what he does. The evangelicals didn't vote for him because he is a good guy. They voted for him because he is a conduit to their evil agenda of No Abortion, No Immigrants, No Gay Marriage, and Lots of Conservative Judges to Punish the People They Hate.

The rest of the base enjoys the fact that he is chaotic and speaks in buzz phrases/like a spoiled toddler crashing from a pixie stick OD.

by Anonymousreply 199March 22, 2018 3:04 PM

Who are these idiots who keep voting for these people?

by Anonymousreply 210March 22, 2018 4:32 PM

Look, now is not the time to discuss this. The White House is concentrating on the mental health of Democrats and why they vote the way they do. We will not on enable them by enacting their policies. We are focusing on and correcting the misdeeds they committed when they passed all those fake laws to protect the environment, the consumer, and people who are not heterosexual or white. Our thoughts and prayers are with the liberals but now is not the time to obstruct the reign of our glorious President and his international support, Mr. Putin, another strong leader. Soon we will be arresting Mueller and his team and locking them up and rehabilitating them to ensure our vision is protected and our country is safe from extremism. We will now pass the collection plate as it your duty as reporters to contribute to our savior's re-election campaign scheduled for 2028 because the next two election cycles have been postponed. Trump's "strategy" is pretty transparent. I suspect his buddy Rudy and a few others helped him with it. I also believe that bringing in that asshole De Genova or WTF his name is with his cockeyed conspiracy theories, etc is what sent the other lawyer packing.

They are casting this as purely political, not even concerning themselves with the legal implications or the legal issues. From a political stand point, Trump has to "act " presidential, say and do whatever it takes to keep his base happy, and portray himself as a victim of a political conspiracy, Period.

They view impeachment as purely political and buy in to the concept that the President while he is President, cannot be charged with crimes unless he is impeached. So their task is to buy time by probably firing Mueller and stalling the investigation. So no Impeachment.

The GOP Congress will avoid impeaching him if he fires Mueller for the same reasons they claim they can't do anything now bcz they're afraid of the GOP Base because Trump owns them. The other part of that is his advisors saying, "You can't get impeached so if anyone else gets charged or convicted, you can just pardon them." That's it. That;s the strategy. Fire Mueller, avoid impeachment and pass out pardons.

OK. Who's first? Who among us is smart enough to blow holes in this strategy?

by Anonymousreply 212March 22, 2018 5:45 PM

Perhaps this been mentioned, but I don't think firing Mueller is the strategy. It wouldn't end the investigation anyway, and I'm sure Mueller expects to be fired and a contingency plan has been in effect for months.

The plan is to discredit Mueller and the FBI altogether, and thus end the Council altogether. Firing McCabe was the first step. The actual "legitimate" reason hasn't been revealed yet, but you can bet it's slim at best but they will attempt to frame and spin it to look like McCabe is a liar as is everybody else. Thus no FBI appointed to the investigation can be trusted. Trump's new lawyer spins conspiracy theories. The plan is to convince enough people this is all a grand scheme devised by Hillary Clinton and the Democrats to stop Trump's Presidency. As absurd and ridiculous as this is, it's exactly what is being pushed on Fox News. Watch just two minutes of Hannity if you can stand it.

Can they get away with it? Of course not! Just like Trump could never be elected President!!
I'm afraid we really are living in an alternate universe right now.

by Anonymousreply 213March 22, 2018 6:01 PM

The irony of all this is that they are not fooling anyone but for the deplorable minority who willfully choose to be fooled, and the evil rich who aim to profit from this entire mess at the expense of our country. I am so done with this disgusting debacle of an illegitimate presidential charade and the every emerging eruption of breaking news and scandals, so numerous you can't remember the scandal that happened an hour ago. These people have to go. I'm waiting for Mueller's turn to release the long list of crimes committed by trump & company and see them all marched off to prison.

I heard trump referred to yesterday as an agent of Russia he is in so deep with Putin. It fits. Russian Agent Trump. RAT!

by Anonymousreply 241March 22, 2018 11:26 PM

R240, as far as Chris Matthews and all his guests are concerned you're right. This Bolton appointment is " the most consequential appointment he has made." The unanimous opinion is that this is catastrophic. Well, if this is really that bad. If all the signs are pointing at war, etc. if it's really bad and he is getting ready to scrap the Iran deal...which is working, and taking us into a war with Nuclear implications then from an international perspective, some country out here has to DO something. Trump cannot remain in the White House. Are there any countries that have a "Seal Tem Six?" We have too many belligerent, agressive people all together in one place.

The only thing I can hope personally, is that Bolton's personality is way too strong and he alienates Trump, Pompeo and a few other people so much so that Trump dumps him. He can be another Scaramucci. Lord hear our prayer.

by Anonymousreply 251March 23, 2018 1:35 AM

I will base a slender hope on the fact that Bolton has a reputation for being very hard to get along with. He doesn't play nice with others. He has a huge ego and he is very definite in what he believes. Rigid, inflexible, hot tempered, big ego. IMO, this is designed to fail.

Don't forget there are other members of the national security team, permanent members, including Pompeo, and other people who will not let Bolton run roughshod over them. He has enemies on the GOP side in Congress too.

If anything Trump may have alienated some of the goodwill he still has in the GOP Senate by hiring Bolton. It was the GOP majority Senate who refused to approve Bolton as Bush's UN Ambassador, which was a lesser appointment than this one is.

Trump has created a mess. Putin is laughing his ass off at the way this is playing out. Like Osama Bin Laden, this is going better than he ever dreamed. If he wanted to weaken us and create chaos he's succeeding beautifully. And the latest spending bill coupled with the massive tax cuts is going to wreck our economy, so sure, let's plan another war.

At some point the GOP COngress has to see where this is heading. They have to stop him. November can't come soon enough. If they wanted to fight back they could and they could take their voters with them if they were smart and knew how to frame a message. So I don't buy it that they're worried about their voters.

There have to be other reasons. Does Netanyahu want a war in Iran? Yeah. Does Putin? No. I want to know where Erik Prince fits in on this appointment. Remember. He is someone who Trump talks to. He is as shady as they come. Evil personified.

R235 I thought the same exact thing as soon as I read it. And then Rick Wilson said it on CNN.

There's a rumor spreading that Trump is gonna fire John Kelly and not replace him. Trump will be his own Speaker of the House. Many are speculating it'll be Sean Hannity.

But I doubt he'd take it. First off, he's most powerful exactly where he is: 7pm weeknights at FOX working as Trump's mouthpiece to the minions of Deplorables.

Second, it would be a tremendous cut in pay. That piece of shit makes in excess of 16 million a year!

Laura Ingraham was in talks to replace Sean Spicer, but turned it down for a variety of reasons. She knew she'd eventually be getting the spot following Hannity after Bill O'Reilly vacated.

As perverse as it sounds but it shows how desperate they are. It's obvious that the GOP is PRAYING for Trump to declare war on someone to get the heat off the GOP (and Trump himself). They don't give a flying fuck about how many people get killed. It's all about saving their own asses and foreign bank accounts.

It would be amazing if the general public would disobey and refuse to play along and not go to war with another country (Donald, you want war? Buy a ticket for you and your war mongering friends and fight it yourself, in person!). Of course ideally someone would take away Donald's access to nukes (Donald Trump can't serve the country anymore, because we found out that he got a nasty STD that clouds his judgement!).

Congress decided to sneak new Russia sanctions into the spending bill they just passed.

Trump said he would sign the bill. Suddenly, he’s now threatening to veto it.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 309March 23, 2018 1:32 PM

r309 By hiding those sanctions in a bill, Congress is essentially admitting that Trump, for some reason, cannot otherwise stand up to Russia. They know he is compromised and therefore are complicit.

by Anonymousreply 310March 23, 2018 1:41 PM

They can put all the sanctions they want into all the bills they can come up with. It means nothing. Trump already has failed to implement the Sanctions they passed almost unanimously in Veto-proof legislation last Fall. Why should these new sanctions make any difference. They mean nothing if they are not implemented.

by Anonymousreply 311March 23, 2018 2:13 PM

And the big announcement turns out to be about Iran stealing intellectual property from our universities. What a wonderful coincidence! Nuke 'em!

by Anonymousreply 312March 23, 2018 2:21 PM

I guess Rosenstein is trying to keep his job.

by Anonymousreply 313March 23, 2018 2:28 PM

Unimplemented sanctions are a display of gross weakness when the authors and sign-ons of the legislation are too timid to take firm and effective action against the rejector and those charged with delivering the intent.

by Anonymousreply 314March 23, 2018 2:29 PM

I'm glad that MSNBC is refusing to take the bait and be distracted by the Iranian hacking thing. I don't think they've even mentioned it yet.

They're still focusing on John Bolton and the Playboy ho.

by Anonymousreply 315March 23, 2018 4:08 PM

We have grounds to impeach without Mueller. He has been criminally negligent and has violated his oath of office by failing to investigate Russian interference in our elections, by failing to implement the sanctions he signed into law and to seek remedies and safeguards to insure this doesn't happen again. He has failed to investigate or respond to reports that Russia hacked into our power grids and our water supplies. and our nuclear energy plants.

And in case some people are not aware, Iran has been a client of Russia for more than 35 years. Most of our problems in the Middle East are rooted in Russian interference. So if Iran was hacking us, if it was state sponsored, then Russia's fingerprints are all over it. The lack of anything resembling coherence in the pronouncements of his advisers often places Trump in a position where one policy contradicts another.

We need to get him out of the fucking White House permanently. He is a clear and present danger, a threat to our national security, and a very grave threat to the future of world Peace. He has said since the campaign, what good is it to have Nuclear weapons if you don't use them. And that is exactly where untethered Trump is heading with his new crop of "advisers."

I believe you're wrong. Too much has come out about Trump and Russia. It's too late for that. If Rosenstein wanted to crush this investigation he could have done it and should have done it months ago. And Christopher Wray is going to give Rosenstein and Mueller all the support they can. To the rank & file FBI agents, and the FBI counter Intelligence people, Mueller is something of a legend. The very notion of him "reporting" or getting "permission" from Rosenstein is quaint. But he will follow the rules and Rosenstein will back his play. I know that firing McCabe and robbing him of his pension was a chilling reminder to the FBI staff. This President is drunk with power and will do damned near anything to destroy people. They want him out even more than we do.

by Anonymousreply 318March 23, 2018 5:45 PM

I believe Rosenstein and Sessions go along with Trump's lunacy to not give him grounds to fire them (in Session's case I believe it's not out of the goodness of his heart, but he still wants to fuck more things up for his own agenda).

The appeal represented a new line of attack from the Trump campaign, which has so far downplayed the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 elections. ‘You should do it.’ Trump officials encouraged George Papadopoulos’s foreign outreach, documents show.

Since Papadopoulos pleaded guilty last year to lying to the FBI about his Russia contacts during the campaign and agreed to cooperate with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, Trump officials have sought to paint the 30-year old energy consultant as a low level volunteer whose outreach to Russia was not authorized by the campaign — and in some cases, was actively discouraged.

But emails described to The Washington Post, which are among thousands of documents turned over to investigators examining Russia’s interference in the 2016 campaign, show that Papadopoulos had more extensive contact with key Trump campaign and presidential transition officials than has been publicly acknowledged.

Among those who communicated with Papadopoulos were senior campaign figures such as chief executive Stephen K. Bannon and adviser Michael Flynn, who corresponded with him about his efforts to broker ties between Trump and top foreign officials, the emails show

The more I read about Bolton' Russia connection and his NRA appearance in an NRA video in Russia, and his own PAC donating to specific "Republican Candidates" And Fox/Murdoch's Russian connections the sicker I feel. How the fuck do we root out all of this? We need major housecleaning and it starts with our campaign finance laws , FCC regulatory poliicies, and the rules for non profits getting involved in political activities. We also need to block foreign contributions and lobbyists representing foreign interests from donating to political campaigns. I think the only way to really cure this is massive reform. Stop running Presidential campaigns for two or three years. Lets have public financing and lets start forcing campaigns to start no earlier than 12 months before the election. I'd really like to see them campaign for 6 months and have it over. Our Houe of Representatives ought to have four yeaar terms, and the President should only be allowed one 6 yr term . I wonder how Trump feels about Obama visiting Indonesia, and New Zealand and Australia, getting a hero's welcome and visiting with their Prime Ministers and other dignitiaries? In fact Obama travels all over Europe and the rest of the world to speaking engagements and and public events, meets with heads of states and other political leaders and business leaders ( real business leaders) regularly. It must burn Trump's ass.

Oh, please. Kushner is too stupid to be running the show.

by Anonymousreply 373March 24, 2018 11:05 AM

There are several shows (aka scams) going on. I believe what really fucked them was that nobody coordinated all these scams, kept track of them, and - more importantly - covered all the tracks leading to their own and other shows / scams.

Putin won't allow a war with Iran, they are their top ally and they are not given up influence in the middle East.

Also the Iranian hacking probably happened with the help of Russian intelligence.

Why can't CNN find the pee pee girls and have Anderson Cooper interview them? Weren't they known to be Ukranian? Or some investigative reporter reveals their fate.

Pooty though, could have permanently silenced the poor girls, and cleansed their history.

I imagine a lot of Republican senators, up for re-election, will be anti Trump from now on and even suggest they will join impeachment efforts until after the election where they change their tune once again (when indeed re-elected). Unless Trump is dragging the US in a war to distract from his crooked ways.

Don't kid yourself. The most vulnerable Republican senator, Nevada's Dean Heller, has been firmly pro-Trump.

Regarding the pee tapes: Even Christopher Steele claimed he expected about 80-85% of the claims in the dossier to be accurate and provable. (I think it's turned out to be 90%). He specifically mentioned that the "salacious" elements had the least amount of credibility. For that reason, he was hesitant to include them, but still felt it necessary. Had he known it would eventually blow up the way it did, he might have left them out of the report.

So basically, no pee pee tapes.

by Anonymousreply 402March 24, 2018 9:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 403March 24, 2018 9:18 PM

You may well be right, R402. I do think Russia has something on Trump, but I'm not sure I believe that particular tape exists.

by Anonymousreply 404March 24, 2018 9:23 PM

People have to stop waiting for the pee tapes. Even Steele admitted it's the least credible of all incidents documented in the Dossier. He conjectured that most likely, 70-75% would pan out and prove factual. But it's been as much as 90%. But no pee tapes.

DJT's response to the existence of the alleged pee pee tapes sounded defensive, while denying. If untrue, he could have laughed it off. Instead, he spoke about being a germophobe. If tapes exists, Pooty has them. Such as purported, is not the smoking gun, but imagine the scene? Why would he hire hookers just to pee on a bed? He could have done it himself, or have asked his loyal bodyguard to do it. Or, he wanted observers to enjoy the moment and had it filmed himself. Like everything else with the campaign and this administration, it is too bizarre perhaps not to be true. Whereas Pooty may hold the evidence, no investigation will unearth it. However, Ruskies videotaping or secretly listening to a very prominent American in a Moscow hotel, would not be beyond their apparent espionage practices. They probably laughed their asses off doing it.

by Anonymousreply 408March 24, 2018 10:25 PM

I'm willing to wager that what Putin has on Trump is financial. Which is why Mueller wanted to review -- and is reviewing -- the Trump organization's records. The bankrupt Donnie is probably up to his orange eyeballs in debt to the Russian oligarchs. They've got his tiny, shriveled balls in a vice grip. How else to explain his extreme reluctance to ever criticize anything that Putin and the Russian do, say, don't do, or don't say. Sanctions? What sanctions?

by Anonymousreply 409March 24, 2018 10:26 PM

R408, I agree—the pee pee tape sounds EXACTLY like something Trump would do. That’s why it got such traction as a rumor. But, if it exists, the tape is controlled by the Russians. I don’t know why people think it’s going to come out.

The Russians, though, had their financial claws in Trump long before the tape. The tape would just be something that symbolizes the fact that they own him.

by Anonymousreply 410March 24, 2018 10:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 412March 24, 2018 11:13 PM

Aside from their salacious value, ost people don't care about Trump's personal sexual pecadillos. He has been a known quantity for decades. His life has been lived in public. womanizer? Who cares. The supporters who still stand with him don't even care that he has been accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women. I think it's about Money. He is a money launderer. He sees a chance to hook up with wealthy oligarchs on gas and oil leases. All he has to do is support Putin's aims, and he is set for life. Wealthy beyond his dreams. that's all he cares about. Remember. He has always said that he would not give up any information, tax returns business interests. He said investigating that was a 'red line." Bimbos he can handle.

by Anonymousreply 413March 25, 2018 12:24 AM

Will nobody care about the Pee Pee tapes when it's revealed one of the hookers is Ivanka who blows daddy after a piss?

Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 414March 25, 2018 12:48 AM

What I have gathered from twitter is that trump may only be concerned with being president to about 33% of the population, but for that 33% he is doing a good job. And it's not abstract. They can list exactly what he has done that they are happy with. The spending bill anger will pass.

Pee pee tapes, adultery, reckless spending, excessive golf trips, profiting off the presidency... none of it matters. Russian interference? Why should they care if it got them the president they wanted and trust?

by Anonymousreply 415March 25, 2018 1:03 AM

Are the Repug talking points tonight to just deny the pee pee tapes? It's not just their salacious nature that would be at issue, it's the fact that they could be used to blackmail a sitting US President. I think they do exist in some manner but I don't think "pee pee" is all that's on them.

by Anonymousreply 416March 25, 2018 1:53 AM

I'm not a Republican. I'm a diehard Hillary supporter. But fine, maybe I'm projecting. I personally don't care if he did made some prostitutes piss on a bed. I find him to be a disgusting pig. So nothing he does or is rumored to have done surprises me. But as for blackmail I just don't see how the alleged pee tapes would have value as an instrument of Blackmail. Sure he might get pissed off if they leaked out. But he doesn't give a rat's ass. Now if they affected his ability to do business, or if they affected his relationship with the GOP Congress that's a different story. But the GOP Congress has already shown how low they set the bar, so I'm just not seeing how much harm such tapes can do if they are leaked.

by Anonymousreply 417March 25, 2018 2:17 AM
Why would he hire hookers just to pee on a bed? He could have done it himself

Lord knows he’s probably peed in every bed he’s slept in.

by Anonymousreply 418March 25, 2018 3:13 AM

^^^ Maybe that’s why Melania doesn’t sleep with him.

by Anonymousreply 419March 25, 2018 3:31 AM

R416/R417 The pee thing is more embarrassing if anything. Trump and most republicans have egos the size of Jupiter and don't care about being hypocrites, but they can't really handle people laughing at them nor can many of them laugh at themselves. You can't laugh at a man cheating on his wife, forcing their mistress/wife to abort their baby, walking into a teenage girl pageant, etc. You can however laugh at a man who paid women to pee on a bed while he watched because he hates a successful black guy who slept on it once.

It's the same thing with their voters. The alt right especially mostly cares about making liberals and ~sjw menace~ mad. When they are laughed instead, they become confused or angry. Case in point, some alt right guy looking to scam dumb alt righters by making some shitty comic:
We all underestimated how bad the convergence in comics had become; we had to actually see it in order to believe it. I suspect we may be similarly underestimating the degree to which the SJWs in comics are going to be triggered by the mere existence of Alt Hero, let alone if it proves to be even remotely popular. This has the potential to make the response of the SF-SJWs to the Rabid Puppies look calm and measured by comparison.
UPDATE: Judging by the initial response of SJWs on Twitter, which is about as calm as measured as a vampire's reaction to garlic-infused holy water, this is going to be even more triggering than I'd imagined.
UPDATE: I have been reliably informed that they are not at all triggered. Not even a little bit. No, you see, they're all laughing. That's a new one....

by Anonymousreply 420March 25, 2018 4:27 AM

by Anonymousreply 425March 25, 2018 7:02 AM

Why I believe the hookers peeing on the bed never happened:

*Practicality: Trump still had to stay in the room after the hookers left. Did he still sleep in the bed? Did he sleep on the couch next to the bed? even with awful stench of urine? ..... Also, he regards himself as a very famous celebrity. Housekeeping has to come in to clean, they find Donald Trump's bed soaked in urine. What are they going to think? Like that information is not gonna get out? I think Trump's narcissism of what people think of him, especially things having to do with his physicality, would Trump over his level of stupidity.

*What would be the point? Again, Trump's narcissism and not only his need to be a bully but to do it in front of an audience. He'll tweet the nastiest thing about somebody, but he won't dare say it to their face or even leave a nasty phone message that only they will hear. If everybody isn't in on his humiliating someone, why do it? It's a wasted opportunity. Other than Trump and the Russian hookers, who else was in the room? Who would Trump be trying to impress? If there's no one to see the defilement, what's the point of doing it?

by Anonymousreply 426March 25, 2018 7:12 AM

The pee sex tape is as sordid as Monica Lewinsky's black (dark blue?) dress with Bill Clinton's DNA (sperm) on it. People really dig the sordid angle when it comes to political scandals. Like in England when government officials are caught in sordid sex scandals with prostitutes, hustlers, kinky sex toys and / or sex gear (rubber suit, for example).
If that's so, would that be quite so excusable to his supporters?

by Anonymousreply 430March 25, 2018 9:32 AM

GREED and MORE GREED

by Anonymousreply 431March 25, 2018 10:05 AM
Trump still had to stay in the room after the hookers left

Weak argument. Do you seriously think Trump - the owner of the Miss Universe Pageant then - only had ONE room with ONE bed available? (And, according to your feeble scenario, perhaps a little couch next to the bed?)

This is not a traveling insurance accountant were talking about, and he was not staying at the Ramada Motel

by Anonymousreply 432March 25, 2018 10:34 AM

So the scenario described in the dossier was that he watched other people pee. They didn't pee on him. He was just an observer of a "performance" where two women peed on a bed. Sorry. IMO that might be titillating and pervy to some people, but it doesn't meet the standard. If they had peed on him, now THAT would have been really scandalous.

The other thing, R421, I think they worried that combined with the Access Hollywood tape it could be damaging. it could also be that they were trying to avoid a bimbo eruption. I believe as someone else up thread suggested, that there may be more tapes out there. There are certainly more women. But his Campaign had no way to really assess the effect it would all have on his voters.

You now, as the media exposes more and more information, connecting the dots, it is apparent that Russia has been all over this. It is their operation top to bottom. Bolton has Russian connections. He is also tied in to Cambridge Analytica. Our new National Security Adviser! Bannon and Jared are tied to CA. CA did work in the UK for BREXIT. The Extreme Right is on the ascendancy all over Europe as Putin's agents of chaos exploit fears and divisions. It is safe to assume, IMO that members of Congress have been comprised and bought off. The Media needs to start looking at that. And the Koch brothers. I'm beginning to believe they are also part of the Russia conspiracy. I used to think they we re separate. But maybe not.

by Anonymousreply 433March 25, 2018 11:37 AM

And why isn't Caitlyn, among others, speaking out?

Expect this to head to the courts again.

by Anonymousreply 434March 25, 2018 1:01 PM

Since we’re learning that the Stormy interview tonight is probably gonna be nothing but foreplay (her lawyer is seriously downplaying it on Twitter this morning), do we still think Trump is going to pardon Flynn or nuke California or something else nakedly desperate?

by Anonymousreply 435March 25, 2018 1:46 PM

R429, except underage is very hard to prove. Even if Putin whipped out a birth certificate, he and his supporters will cry fake. No, if this happened and it's on tape, Trump probably can't remember exactly what he said or did and that's what worries him. He could have explicitly compared them to Ivanka, a tape recording of that would do damage. It would be worse than what he said on Howard Stern.

by Anonymousreply 436March 25, 2018 1:52 PM

For all his apparent flamboyance, Trump is a very secretive person. Of course he is also craven and dishonest and one of the best manipulators our here. The thing is, he thought this had all been put to rest. He had things under control. (He is a controller.) Then she defied him, his thug lawyer, and said fuck you. So Trump is no longer in control and his thug lawyer is having problems with containment. And really this is about money. This is about illegally using campaign money to hush up a scandal during his campaign so that's the vulnerability.

by Anonymousreply 437March 25, 2018 2:19 PM

The three major "No Pee Pee Tapes" Trolls this morning all started out as "I voted for Hillary!" fakers but then eventually ended up using the Approved Talking Points of how the interview tonight will be a nothing burger and that it will hurt the Democrats more than Trump.

Be aware of these Trolls. They ALL start off sounding like "I'm With Her!" Gays but they eventually reveal themselves to be Trolls/Plants.

Less pee pee, more money laundering!

I don’t doubt for an instant that the golden shower stuff happened. It totally fits his warped psychology. But I'm sick of everyone obsessing on the tapes. I want his ass taken down, and the best route to that is through financial records.

Yes, both Rush and Hannity tell their listeners constantly that everything mentioned in the Steele dossier has been proven fake.

by Anonymousreply 441March 25, 2018 2:42 PM

If the pee tapes are true I think you seriously underestimate the damage that will be done. It's just sordid. It's so sordid. There aren't words that can minimize or spin what it is. Hookers, Russia, hotel, pee, watching. Whether it was private conduct or not, its repulsive. Few Republicans want to defend that, if not in the media during the brief firestorm, on the campaign trail in 18 and 20. It if were true and comes out it won't be shocking, because it's established, but it will be draining for being so rank.

I think tonight will be a bust. If Anderson's late Playmate with a heart of gold interview was any indication, these women only have so much to say or only so much they can say... so the interview drags out for ratings purposes. I was bored by the end of the Playmate. The only part I remember clearly was where she broke up with regret.

I was chatting with a reasonably informed person at a thing last night and they didn't even know the interview was being aired or much about Stormy Daniels (yet had a very low opinion of Trump.)

Are you kidding, Trumpers and many GOPers are secretly delighting in the idea that Trump had hookers pee on a bed the Obamas used. They love this. "Why this man has balls of concrete to do that. Take that you Kenyan born Mooslim blah blah drool."

People are seriously underestimating how low and despicable these people are. They can't be reasoned with. Stop trying. They must be defeated. Unconditional surrender. Just like Churchill demanded of the nazis.

by Anonymousreply 448March 25, 2018 4:19 PM

R426 is an incredibly weak argument, as someone else has already stated.

He didn't have to stay in the room. No one said it even happened in the evening. It could have very well happened right before he left. Some account say that if it did happen it had to happen between the hours of of like 2 and 6 am. He could have just left after it was done.

Second, incredibly naive to think that celebrities give a shit what hotel staff think about them. They don't even think about people that are staff. Especially if they're foreign.

More to r443 / r444--

President Donald Trump's attorney announced Sunday that a veteran Washington husband-and-wife legal duo will not join Trump's team handling the Russia probe.

"The President is disappointed that conflicts prevent Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing from joining the President's Special Counsel legal team," his lawyer, Jay Sekulow, said in a statement. "However, those conflicts do not prevent them from assisting the President in other legal matters. The President looks forward to working with them."

Sekulow announced Monday that diGenova, a former US attorney for the District of Columbia, would be joining the team, and sources told CNN that he and Toensing met with Trump on Thursday. One source said the President liked the pair's message, but was not convinced they were right for the legal jobs.

Trump's lead lawyer, John Dowd, resigned from Trump's personal legal team on the same day of the meeting as his disagreements with the President intensified and the President stepped up attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller.

[bold]The reversal Sunday leaves Trump's legal team with diminished resources as Mueller's probe intensifies.[/bold]

Anyone for a Dark and Stormy?

by Anonymousreply 454March 25, 2018 5:16 PM

"Conflicts" prevent their hiring? Oh my sides. In other words, they didn't give him the guarantees he wanted, or pledge to do his bidding at all costs to career, license, or conscience, I would guess.

Isn't it also odd that the fatman has been relatively quiet on Twitter this weekend? Are they making sure he is always golfing or eating? Is TV reception down at his resort?

There are the Trump supporters who think it is virile and masterful Trump has laid porn stars and Playboy bunnies. Then there are the rigid, selective, and fundamental evangelicals that think like this:

I recall lots of Trump voters saying that Melania was "classy", so you're dealing with a much lower bar with these people.

by Anonymousreply 458March 25, 2018 5:54 PM

Deplorables will do and say anthing to defend their hero. They would approve of canibalism and pedophilia if that gets revealed about Trump. What other choice do they have? They are stuck with him. And they like it.

by Anonymousreply 459March 25, 2018 6:20 PM

r455.....or they are even too batshit for Trump.....or, after meeting with Trump, they realized he was going down and dont want to be associated with the takedown.

by Anonymousreply 460March 25, 2018 6:22 PM

The thing that amazes me the most is that we were all talking about this shit a good 6 months BEFORE the election.......the Russian meddling, Trumps ties to Russia, Trumps affairs, etc.......seriously. Nobody WANTED to pay attention until AFTER it was too late.....voters and MSM alike.

by Anonymousreply 461March 25, 2018 6:24 PM

Karen McDougall’s interview was ultimately a snoozefest. Stormy’s will be anything but so at least it will be entertaining. For one thing I doubt she’ll apologize to Melania. If anything she’ll say she was no better than a orostitute herself.

by Anonymousreply 462March 25, 2018 6:36 PM

R448 Not really... they don't seem to really like it when it's brought up. It's less a deplorable action and more of an extremely embarrassing action. It's easy to point and laugh at him and anybody who defends it and say how much they love pee and watersports. And these people HATE being laughed at.

Like the diaper boy at Kent State basically ruined their youth conservative group because people online wouldn't stop laughing at him and their group. Had that idiot not showed his adult baby fetish, that youth group and republicans in general could've easily twisted any criticism of their little "protest" as liberals being triggered.

It is also possible the darling duo has some pesky payments in their bank accounts from a foreign government recently in the news.

Robert Mueller may just want to know the details of this chat with private attorneys, which is not covered by either attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.

by Anonymousreply 469March 25, 2018 7:11 PM

deplorables don't know what classy is, they don't have money in the stock market and they don't care if he raped that 14 year old who ALSO got paied off at the same time as stormy.

A woman who had accused Donald Trump of raping her when she was a 13-year-old dropped her lawsuit against the Republican nominee on Friday.

One of the accuser’s attorneys, Thomas Meagher, filed a in district court in New York late on Friday. Neither he nor a second attorney listed immediately responded to questions about the document.

The woman, who had filed suit earlier this year under the pseudonym Jane Doe, had alleged that Trump and billionaire Jeffrey Epstein had raped her in 1994, when she was a 13-year-old aspiring model.

The average income of a Trump supporter was reported as somewhere around $70,000. So they're not po' folk. They have retirement savings invested in IRAs. They have real estate they depend on Social Security and Medicare. They are all going to feel the pinch from the volatility of the stock market and from the spending and tax cuts Trump and his GOP buddies gave them. The ones who need healthcare are going to have a rude awakening when they see how Trump and his Cabinet have manipulated the ACA to rob it of it's stability. The jobs he promised aren't there and his trade policies and his tariffs sound great but the impact will really hit a lot of them. So little by little t hey are going to peel away except for the hardcore racists. But by 2020 if he's still around, his approval numbers will be around 22%.

by Anonymousreply 504March 26, 2018 12:25 AM

The biggest thing to come out of the 60 Minutes thing was the interview with the guy who used to chair the Federal Election Commission.

The one who said it's actually WORSE that Michael Cohen wasn't reimbursed by Trump. Because that makes it more likely to be seen as an in-kind campaign contribution that's $126,500 over the legal limit.

by Anonymousreply 505March 26, 2018 12:30 AM
Who wastes the President’s time setting meetings with people who are unavailable to him?

I mean, with this guy does it really matter? He wastes enough of his own time during the day. He watches Faux News and tweets. If you look at his schedule it is mostly filled with "executive time." Which means TV, Twitter, and stuffing his fat face. He hardly ever works.

by Anonymousreply 506March 26, 2018 12:48 AM
They are all going to feel the pinch from the volatility of the stock market and from the spending and tax cuts Trump and his GOP buddies gave them.

Here's some things I have heard from well-to-do Republicans that I know:

"He's a disgusting human being, but I agree with a lot of his economic policies (particularly tax reform, revising the Dodd Franks bank regulations, etc.)"

"I underestimated just how unhinged he is. And I was naive in believing there are enough Republicans around to act as a check on his wildest impulses."

"I believe we must maintain the integrity of our borders"

"I am much in favor of restoring balance to our court system"

"My hope is the Democrats will take back the house of representatives in November which will shake up the surviving Republicans enough to finally face up to belling the cat. But I have no hope Trump will have an epiphany."

by Anonymousreply 507March 26, 2018 12:55 AM

So Trump’s penchant for not paying for services rendered could end up being his undoing. Sweet.

Our Foriegn Policy is apparently for sale now. This is a MUST read. Hundreds of millions of dollars to this guy.

“Mueller probe witness secretly backed UAE agenda in Congress”

George Nader, an adviser to the UAE who is now a witness in the U.S. special counsel investigation into foreign meddling in American politics, wired $2.5 million to the Trump fundraiser, Elliott Broidy, through a company in Canada, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter. They said Nader paid the money to Broidy to bankroll an effort to persuade the U.S. to take a hard line against Qatar, a long-time American ally but now a bitter adversary of the UAE. ——- In October, Broidy also raised the issue of Qatar at the White House in meetings with Trump and senior aides.

The details of Broidy’s advocacy on U.S. legislation have not been previously reported. The AP found no evidence that Broidy used Nader’s funds for the campaign donations or broke any laws. At the time of the advocacy work, his company, Circinus, did not have business with the UAE, but was awarded a more than $200 million contract in January.

The sanctions bill was approved by Royce’s committee in late 2017. It remains alive in the House of Representatives, awaiting a review by the House Financial Services Committee.

Media is a whore who sells the narrative of the highest bidder to the masses.

We are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past, because our media culture frowns upon anyone using critical thinking skills (WE tell you what to think and believe! WE tell you which side you should beregarding this issue or topic!).

Instead of humanity doing groudbreaking stuff we are constantly fixing things from the past and then repeat those mistakes, because apparently we had so much fun fixing the same mistake in the past. When you constantly have to fix things you have no time to really move forward. In the end conservatives win by holding humanity back and keep the status quo alive for a little bit longer to benefit from it.

Last July, James Mattis and Rex Tillerson arranged a tutoring session at the Pentagon for President Donald Trump in the secure, windowless meeting room known as “The Tank.” The plan was to lay out why American troops are deployed in far-flung places across the globe, like Japan and South Korea. Mattis spoke first.

“The postwar, rules-based international order is the greatest gift of the greatest generation,” Mattis told the president, according to two meeting attendees. The secretary of defense walked the president through the complex fabric of trade deals, military agreements and international alliances that make up the global system the victors established after World War II, touching off what one attendee described as a “food fight” and a “free for all” with the president and the rest of the group.

Trump punctuated the session by loudly telling his secretaries of state and defense, at several points during the meeting, “I don’t agree!” The meeting culminated with Tillerson, his now ousted secretary of state, fatefully complaining after the president left the room, that Trump was “a fucking moron.”

You just know if any of these fuckers go to jail, Ivanka is gonna start crying about how her dad molested her in an attempt to not be jailed, as though that is an excuse for treason and money laundering.

Re: R566. What we know is beyond bad enough, so what we don't know has to be staggering.

We know that Trump casually mentioned on record that he was smarter than 'his' Generals. Link @ R566 puts some toxic flesh on that brittle bone.

Tillerson was sacked for being right. Some comfort in knowing he's on the right side of history.

I somehow missed something. How did CBS get the go ahead to air the Stormy interview if Orange had won Arbitration?

by Anonymousreply 569March 26, 2018 4:42 PM

There is no right side of the history for conservative Republicans. Tillerson thought he could control Trump to do his (and the people backing Tillerson's) bidding, but he just couldn't deal with Trump's self serving lunacy.

by Anonymousreply 570March 26, 2018 4:43 PM

Because fuck ‘em.

by Anonymousreply 571March 26, 2018 4:44 PM

Orange has been completely quiet about the Stormy interview, right? It must be killing him. Someone must either have very good control of him now or they hid his phone.

What was brilliant about the Stormy thing is that he was fucked. He couldn't say anything because it would fuck him over even more.

Stormy FTW.

by Anonymousreply 572March 26, 2018 4:52 PM

He can't say anything because he knows she can nuke his ass.

BTW - Someone should ask him "What good are Nukes if you can't use them"?

by Anonymousreply 573March 26, 2018 5:03 PM

If he Tweets anything it's basically admitting she's telling the truth... if he Tweets something calling her a liar and she has proof... he's even more fucked.

I just laugh knowing that he's literally probably going (more) insane wanting to Tweet something calling her a whore liar but he can't.

She bested him.

by Anonymousreply 574March 26, 2018 5:10 PM

What next? Another assault on transgenders to deflect and pander to his base?

by Anonymousreply 575March 26, 2018 5:22 PM

He sent some vague tweet about Fake News, as usual, which some believe refers to the interview. He really can't seem to mention her or the scandal by name for some reason *lol*

by Anonymousreply 576March 26, 2018 5:28 PM

For anybody who recalls Rachel Maddow's Friday show, I'm just glad her prediction didn't come true.

by Anonymousreply 577March 26, 2018 5:31 PM

What was the prediction, R577?

by Anonymousreply 578March 26, 2018 5:40 PM

r577.....Ill take the bait since youve mentioned it several times.....what was the prediction ?

by Anonymousreply 579March 26, 2018 5:40 PM

And what is Stormy's hot Attorney up to? Has he Tweeted anything?

by Anonymousreply 580March 26, 2018 5:41 PM

She predicated that Trump might pardon Flynn on Sunday in an effort to deflect.
