Other than that, there does seem to be some leeway for other paths...predominately tv actor, broadcasting/hosting, theater, comedy, etc. There will always be a few exceptions to the rule, too.

But overall, from industry folks, clients are still told to keep that part of themselves "as quiet as possible".

Yes. Given that the majority of gay celebrities are still in the closet, it's obviously still a big issue. Take a look at the annual DL "Who Will Come Out?" lists -- at the end of each year, virtually no major names come out from the list. Year after year.

They may be escorted to the closet, but recent years to me seem to be all about "gay baiting" and teasing whether or not they are actually gay.

There are several B list gay actors that are out now.

There will never be a major (out) gay movie star like Brad Pitt or Robert Redford. I actually think the days of that level of stardom are behind us, but you get what I’m trying to say.

Hopefully, his rise opens the door for others.

Then there is Richard Madden. He was once on track to be the next big thing, but his career seemed to derail after he was outed. It felt like in-house sabotage, and it shows how easily the industry can shut someone down.

The truth is that the public does not care if an actor is gay. A gay actor could play Batman, Superman, Bond, or any action star. As long as the story is not centered on being gay, audiences will not care. The problem lies with Hollywood and its gatekeepers.

The fact that Jonathan Bailey’s success in just the last year is the only real evidence of change is both sad and revealing. Gay actors have been shut out for decades. But his breakthrough offers proof that there is hope for the future.

Eyre was pissed and fuming she was being contracted to sit around as not being seen with Nick did not help her fledgling brand .Galitzine's last big premiere was for Mary & George and Nick brought his usual date partner/mate/boyfriend/top man Austin Kevitch. The premiere of his next film 100 Nights of Hero is at the London Film Festival Oct 8. Since Galitzine and Kevitch are now quits Nick will finally be sporting facial hair on Oct 8. Galitzine's CAREER for which he sacrificed his partner of 6 long years Austin Kevitch appears ready to blow up. Hope it was worth it Bambi.

Bailey isn't really A-List. The new JURASSIC WORLD movie did well, but grossed less than the previous two installments. It didn't seem to catapult Bailey to true megastar status, but as others have noted here, megastars are a thing of the past now. Bailey will have a nice career though.

I think so. But there aren't any more movie stars, so actors don't make or break a movie like did back in the 2000s , 90s, and 80s. So being gay or anything controversial doesn't really matter.
