She's just millennial Sydney Sweeney. All smoke and mirrors, but no ticket sales
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 22, 2025 12:50 AM |
I thought she was remarkable in I, Tonya and think she deserved the Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 22, 2025 12:52 AM |
Love her!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 22, 2025 12:53 AM |
Sydney Sweeney is only 6 years younger, r1. I don't know why people have to drag generations into everything. I agree that they're both unimpressive.

Barbie was IP and a $100M marketing campaign.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 22, 2025 12:56 AM |
That's a shame. One would think a romantic movie with Robbie and Colin Farrell (whom I find adorable) would do well. But this time of year isn't the timeframe for romances and rom coms.
And I like Kogonada's past films. A rare misstep here.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 22, 2025 12:57 AM |
The original release date was Mother's Day. Clearly they realized they had a massive turd on their hands and dumped it on a slow weekend in September.

Barbie's 1.4 billion does make her average still well above 200 million per picture. Plus, she produces her own stuff. She's with us for at least a couple of decades..
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 22, 2025 1:11 AM |
She doesn’t have the it factor
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 22, 2025 1:13 AM |
The hugeness of Barbie negates the other bombs.
At least for now.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 22, 2025 1:34 AM |
She got at least $40M from Barbie. If she retired tomorrow, I'm sure she'd probably be all set for the rest of her life. Still her box office history doesn't lie and I have a hard time picturing any studio offering her a $20M paycheck.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 22, 2025 1:38 AM |
She still has her looks. She probably has about another decade on the A list.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 22, 2025 1:42 AM |
Looks like it is time for "Barbie 2: Return to Barbieland"
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 22, 2025 1:53 AM |
Maybe they need to stop naming her movies after places.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 22, 2025 4:09 AM |
She's a white, blue-eyed blonde. She'll always get cast in things.

The rom/com or whatever it is that she did with Colin Farrell had a terrible title, a gimmicky premise, got terrible reviews and virtually no promotion.
So why the surprise that it flopped? It was obviously a mistake for all concerned. No star can salvage that kind of unsatisfying bomb.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 22, 2025 6:05 PM |
Barbie also came out during the writer’s strike. There were two movies to choose from: Barbie and that Christopher Nolan crapfest.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 22, 2025 6:30 PM |
She produces these films.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 22, 2025 6:30 PM |
Her looks are a dime a dozen in Australia. She’s a terrible actress and is over-the-hill now. There comes a point where you have to prove your worth in the industry and can no longer count on employment based on looks.

Just the opposite, actually. 1 film doesn’t cut it. She has bomb after bomb and it’s her money.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 22, 2025 6:32 PM |
She’s in Asteroid City, a modestly budgeted arthouse title, for one scene; I really wouldn’t count that one.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 22, 2025 6:35 PM |
I think it’s funny that she and Emma Stone are all about producing movies to ensure their longevity yet they both got the same facelift in their early 30s.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 22, 2025 7:05 PM |
So much ignorance and misinformation on here.
She does produce films but she doesn't produce EVERY film she's in and she's not listed as a producer on Big Bold Beautiful Journey. However, her production compnay is one of the producers of her NEXT movie, Wuthering Heights directed by Emerald Fennell.
Producers, particularly star-producers, do not, as a rule, put in any of their own money. They have production deals with studios.
She's not going anywhere. She's a gorgeous 35 year old movie star with an Oscar nomination and a production company. As long as she can dangle the possibility she'll do a Barbie sequel, she'll get leading roles. Well, as long as she's considered fuckable...so, she has about 5 to 8 years left.

You forgot the Harley Quinn movie and the second Suicide Squad. Meanwhile she probably gets a huge salary and they scream women are underpaid lol
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 22, 2025 9:04 PM |
Asteroid City made more then twice its budget. How is that a bomb? Cause of the bad reviews by critics and fans?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 22, 2025 9:07 PM |
She’s already had more hits than Sharon Stone did and Sharon Stone’s still around.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 22, 2025 9:11 PM |
1) Generally speaking, a movie should make 3 times its budget to be considered profitable.
2) But, box office is only one part of the profit; there's also streaming now. Wes Anderson is a art house god so his movies do make money.
3) Margot Robbie has a tiny cameo in Asteroid City. It isn't a "Margot Robbie" movie.
4) I think the reveiws were mixed.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 22, 2025 9:11 PM |
Robbie’s been in several well regarded films
Wild of Wall Street I Tonya Once Upon a Time in America Barbie Suicide Squad Bombshell
And so far the blame for any flops she’s been in has not been laid at her feet. She’s managed to avoid the backlash that Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence got after they pushed their personalities too hard in the press. She stays private and doesn’t hog the spotlight. Nobody’s avoiding these films because of her. She’s not going anywhere
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 22, 2025 9:18 PM |
The double standard couldn’t be more obvious. Colin Farrell has never opened a movie in his life and yet there’s no thread on him.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 22, 2025 9:24 PM |
R30 Wild of Wall Street? Once Upon a Time in America? Are you drunk? And Suicide Squad was a gigantic box-office bomb. You are definitely drunk
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 22, 2025 9:24 PM |
They could have cast Joyce DeWitt as Barbie and the movie wouldn't have made one dollar less. Barbie was iconic IP and it was guaranteed to smash.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 22, 2025 9:27 PM |
Jesus, there are some stupid fucking assholes on here.
Poor Margot...does she really deserve this much hatred from our lurking incels?
THE WOLF of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in HOLLYWOOD, and Suicide Squad were all huge hits. The Suicide Squad sequel, stupidly titled THE Suicide Squad was a bomb.
No. Joyce DeWitt wouldn't have made Barbie a hit. Fine if you don't like Margot (I'm actually ambivalent about her; she's ok) but she WAS Barbie. Perfect casting.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 22, 2025 10:26 PM |
r34 LOL NO. Mattel made Barbies in the likeness of Margot Robbie for the movie and they sold a shit ton. Two years later, Mattel is still pumping the Margot dolls out. This is a pretty clear indicator not only of the success of the movie, but of how essential Margot's involvement is to it.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 22, 2025 11:48 PM |
I meant to address R33 not R34
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 22, 2025 11:50 PM |
I don't get why Hollywood is so desperate to have stars. IP and content is what drives revenues.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 23, 2025 1:00 AM |
Which explains why studio movies now all suck.

[quote]The double standard couldn’t be more obvious. Colin Farrell has never opened a movie in his life and yet there’s no thread on him.
Colin has been around for two decades now, he's not the hot-young-actress-of-the-moment, one who also made a huge $40 mil payout for successfully producing/starring in a huge blockbuster just a few years ago. He long ago settled into character roles, with the occasional leading role in smaller independent movies. His biggest recent role was television (The Penguin). He's not going to be the focus of much attention.
Not that Margo has to worry, I agree that her current BO record is fine. She's got a strong production reputation to fall back on (Barbie, Saltburn, upcoming Wuthering Heights).
