I have engineered wood floors that I'm stuck with for the time being. I usually vacuum, then wet swift, but I can't stand the Fabreeze scent that seems to be in everything. Are the steam mops any good? I see a ton of them in thrift stores, so I wonder if they are a hassle or don't work well, any suggestions?
Best Method for Cleaning Wood Floors?

Get a robot vacuum cleaner. I have a Roborock vacuum cleaner (with mop) and love it.
They are pricey but do a good joob.
I use 70% water, 30 % white vinegar.

I'd be careful of using steam on engineered wood floors, it could cause the veneer layer to separate.
And Swiffer mops leave a buildup. Your best best is white vinegar and water as the above poster suggested. Robot optional .

How about a cleaning woman, granny R11?

You need good colored help! But make sure they're not from any of the voodoo Islands!

The best way to clean wooden floors is with a bucket of hot water with a cup of methylated spirits in it and a string mop. I've tried everything else and this works the best. You should never put any cleaning products on real wooden floors.

R11 here. Not a granny
Cleaning lady is a term; cleaning woman is not. We can go with cleaner if you think it’s more contemporary.
Cleaning woman sounds like English may be your second language. Calling ICE…

Engineered wood floors? Eww. Do you live in a project?

My cleaning lady uses Murphy’s Oil Soap, considerably diluted. Cleaning ladies dilute everything, so every cleanser lasts for months and months.

A bucket of warm water, a splash of white vinegar (deodorant) and two drops of dish detergent (for dirt and grime). Get on your hands and knees and do the baseboards thoroughly to get the room sparkling like a convent parlor.

Cleaning woman is a perfectly acceptable name among people under age 65. “Lady” calling every female lady is for those who cannot say the word woman. They say lady, gal, girl.

Put some Brown Method hardwood floor soap in a bucket with water and mix. Yes, I dilute mine. Make sure you have a full roll of paper towels. And an alcoholic beverage and music of your choice.
Put on some old socks.
Douse affected room with a small amount of Method solution. Let stand long enough for any grime to dissolve.
Skate around the room to the music in your socks with a huge wad of paper towels under your feet. Repeat until floor has been covered in that room. Sip away and have fun.
Repeat in the other rooms.
When you're done, rest and let the treated rooms dry. Throw out the soap water outside or in the tub and the paper towels away.

I’ll stick with cleaning lady. Thanks for the helpful tip. It doesn’t work for me.

The alcohol in a bucket of water tip ONLY works on sealed/polyurethaned floors, not waxed, oiled, or unsealed floors.
