Celebrities Big A Decade Ago But Now Forgotten

Who cares about stars that were big in the 50s and no one knows anymore. How about recent celebrities who we actually lived through and now have problems even making it onto TMZ.

Judge Judy

Perez Hilton

by Anonymousreply 235July 29, 2025 10:45 PM

OP I think you could say Judge Judy and most people would know who you were talking about but certainly that's not true for Perez Hilton.; he was never big.

by Anonymousreply 1July 26, 2025 5:39 AM

Bai Ling; Lorde; Tila Tequila; Daniel Tosh; Liam Lynch

by Anonymousreply 2July 26, 2025 5:39 AM

He was huge if you’re millineal @R1

by Anonymousreply 3July 26, 2025 6:02 AM

Mischa Barton, Freddie Prinz Jr, Chad Michael Murray

by Anonymousreply 4July 26, 2025 6:04 AM

Enrique Iglesias

by Anonymousreply 5July 26, 2025 6:11 AM

R4 10 years ago was 2015.

Those people were long gone by 2015.

by Anonymousreply 6July 26, 2025 6:19 AM

Robin Thicke.

Robin had a pretty successful career as a lowkey R&B act who sold pretty well inside the R&B fanbase. He was like a modern Jon B. And then “Blurred Lines” came out and he completely spiraled.

by Anonymousreply 7July 26, 2025 6:21 AM

Madonna

by Anonymousreply 8July 26, 2025 6:21 AM

R2 Lorde is still popular to Gen Z.

by Anonymousreply 9July 26, 2025 6:24 AM

Ashanti

by Anonymousreply 10July 26, 2025 6:25 AM

Oprah, Madonna, and George Clooney lost their star power in the 2010s. Although they’re not erased or have disappeared, they’ve certainly been forgotten on a cultural relevance scale.

by Anonymousreply 11July 26, 2025 6:32 AM

George Clooney got old. OLD.

by Anonymousreply 12July 26, 2025 6:41 AM

OP suffers from recency bias.

by Anonymousreply 13July 26, 2025 6:46 AM

Garrison Keillor

by Anonymousreply 14July 26, 2025 6:51 AM

Gabourey Sidibe; Lily Collins; Emile Hirsch; Joseph Gordon Levitt; Ellen Page; Danny Masterson; Aston Kutcher...

by Anonymousreply 15July 26, 2025 7:37 AM

R15's got it. Those are perfect.

by Anonymousreply 16July 26, 2025 9:50 AM

R6 nails the challenge for the crypt dwelling ancient DLers for whom time has collapsed.

by Anonymousreply 17July 26, 2025 9:53 AM

LOL @R17!

Yes, the years do start to blur.

by Anonymousreply 18July 26, 2025 10:01 AM

Not even a decade ago: Michael Avenatti

by Anonymousreply 19July 26, 2025 11:45 AM

George Clooney just scored a huge critical and financial hit on Broadway and got a Tony nomination. He's hardly forgotten. But I still don't like him.

by Anonymousreply 20July 26, 2025 12:40 PM

[quote] Not even a decade ago: Michael Avenatti

Remember when he flirted with a campaign for the presidential nomination?

by Anonymousreply 21July 26, 2025 1:05 PM

R20 He’s doing Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 22July 26, 2025 1:37 PM

Lorde has a new album out which is critically and commercially successful.

by Anonymousreply 23July 26, 2025 1:47 PM

It absolutely is not successful, but I would agree she does not qualify.

by Anonymousreply 24July 26, 2025 1:48 PM

Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 25July 26, 2025 1:52 PM

Kate McKinnon.

Honestly most of her SNL cast members from the era just sort of flamed out.

Aziz Ansari

by Anonymousreply 26July 26, 2025 1:56 PM

Game of Thrones ended in 2015. I thought we’d see others from that cast in big roles elsewhere.

Pedro Pascal and Jason Mamoa, in minor but memorable roles, would not have been my guesses for who we’d still be talking about today.

by Anonymousreply 27July 26, 2025 2:14 PM

What is all this forgotten shit? Celebrities are meant to be forgotten and replaced by new ones.

by Anonymousreply 28July 26, 2025 2:36 PM

Johnny Galecki

Beck Bennett

by Anonymousreply 29July 26, 2025 2:48 PM

Lorde is still in it. New album in June. #1 UK, #2 US. No single yet.

I AM "big"!

It's the other internet gossip columnists with Olmec heads that got small...

by Anonymousreply 31July 26, 2025 2:55 PM

I wouldn’t say that Jennifer Lawrence is in any way forgotten, but truly, no one is excited about about her newest acting performances. She’s failed at producing on a scale whereas Margot Robbie and Emma Stone have not.

by Anonymousreply 32July 26, 2025 3:02 PM

R32, she just sold her latest film's global distribution rights at Canne for a record-breaking $24M. As for her performance, she's a front-runner for a Lead Actress nom for Die, My Love.

If you're going to make a comment as if it were fact, provide some actual facts.

by Anonymousreply 33July 26, 2025 3:35 PM

Perez Hilton made a name for himself as a gossip "news" reporter shortly after the internet started gaining traction, and we're talking about the AOL days. As the scene exploded, he couldn't keep up and he became a relic. I read that he moved to Vegas which will further hasten his obsolescence. But there was a time when he was all over TV and the internet.

Katy Perry. And ontinuously losing traction: the Kardashians.

I'd add Stacey Dash to this list. Another one that went right wing (but not far right) and pissed off the people who were supporting her.

R33: Mubi vastly overpaid for this. This is going to be one huge bomb. It’s about a mother who develops postpartum depression and psychosis. Basically it’s mother! 2.0. Not to mention the overexposed Robert Pattinson isn’t exactly a huge draw lately.

by Anonymousreply 52July 26, 2025 7:03 PM

Chelsea Handler. Her show ended in 2014. She's had some Netflix shows but seems pretty washed-up and irrelevant in 2025.

by Anonymousreply 63July 26, 2025 11:18 PM

Joan Rivers HATED Chelsea Handler. She said that Chelsea had ZERO talent and blew her way to success. I agree. Absolutely no talent.

by Anonymousreply 64July 26, 2025 11:33 PM

Joan always disliked comediennes who were prettier than she was, which was most of them.

by Anonymousreply 67July 27, 2025 12:02 AM

People wrongly assume JLaw's career decline was because of Weinstein's cancellation and incarceration. The primary reason her career stalled is because her non-IP films flopped and her quote was and still is $20-25M. Her putting her foot in her mouth didn't help either. They sold her as the next Julia Roberts but with the acting prowess of Meryl Streep. The tripping at award shows, scolding the reporter in the press room at the Golden Globes, claiming she was the first female action star - overtime people didn't buy the girl you'd wanna have a beer with persona.

by Anonymousreply 98July 27, 2025 2:31 PM

Tripping at awards show? You really think most people cared about that?

by Anonymousreply 99July 27, 2025 2:44 PM

There's something unlikable about Jennifer Lawrence.

by Anonymousreply 100July 27, 2025 2:49 PM

How do you make money after you age into obscurity? If you were known for something like a blog (Drudge, Hilton) and then displaced by newer forms of media and celebrity. It must be awful to have been clever ten years ago but broke today.

by Anonymousreply 101July 27, 2025 4:00 PM

Alicia Silverstone is worth 20 million, let's ask her, since she hasn't been relevant for decades.

by Anonymousreply 102July 27, 2025 4:10 PM

R102, she's worth $20M (as in, her total assets/net worth) or she still commands that kind of salary?

by Anonymousreply 103July 27, 2025 4:34 PM

R103 I don't know, I assume worth. Why don't you do some research?

by Anonymousreply 104July 27, 2025 4:40 PM

[quote] Joan Rivers told some story to Howard Stern about how she shared a green room with Chelsea Handler for some event and how Handler rolled her eyes at Rivers when she walked over and introduced herself. Rivers thought it was really tacky and rude.

For someone who made an entire career out of being mean to other celebrities on stage, Joan was ridiculously oversensitive.

by Anonymousreply 105July 27, 2025 4:45 PM

[quote]Several of the young male "promises" in Hollywood from the early 2010s. In part cause they were nothing but hopelessly boring white straight dudes: Logan Lerman, Ryan Kwanten, Alex Pettyfer, Kellan Lutz.

I wouldn't say, Logan Lerman, is "forgotten." He had the Hunters series with Al Pachino for a couple of years. He's on next season of "Only Murders..." and has been doing press for the indie movie he just did. For years social would lose its mind whenever his girlfriend/soon to be wife would post a picture of him to remind people he existed. He just only seems to work when he feels like it.

The others, not so much. Kwanten got older and does b movies overseas that seem kinda shitty. Pettyfer was an ass and ruined his career. He also pissed off Channing Tatum. Kellan disappeared completely the past couple of years.

[quote]Rosamund Pike. Come back!

She's been on Amazon's Wheel of Time for a couple of years. (It just got cancelled.) She produced it so it centered on her character.

I don't know if these people are so much "forgotten" as they are on shows/doing projects that are for a demographic that you [the general you] may not be part of.

by Anonymousreply 106July 27, 2025 4:46 PM

They're not exactly well known.

by Anonymousreply 107July 27, 2025 4:50 PM

[quote] [R102], she's worth $20M (as in, her total assets/net worth) or she still commands that kind of salary?

I somehow don't think Alicia Silverstone commands $20 million per project

by Anonymousreply 108July 27, 2025 4:52 PM

Does she have any projects?

by Anonymousreply 109July 27, 2025 4:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 110July 27, 2025 5:00 PM

R110 Oh, my GOD. I Googled it. It was the first thing that came up. I didn't think there would be a quiz.

by Anonymousreply 119July 27, 2025 5:43 PM

I wonder how old many of you are. Ashanti? Perez Hilton? These people were popular 20 years ago, not 10. Ashanti is becoming back popular again due to millenial nostalgia as we are approaching 40. She and her husband. Yall haven’t noticed Millenial nostalgia is being cooked into pop culture like crazy lately. Even the youngest millennials were grown adult ten years ago. Many of the people named here were has beens or washed up, even if they still had money in the bank. It really is true that people forget time as they age. They like mix up decades.

by Anonymousreply 120July 27, 2025 6:09 PM

R120 It's pretty hard to say exactly who was popular exactly a decade ago. And which of them are not popular any more. I'm not surprised people mix it up. It's very specific. Yall.

by Anonymousreply 121July 27, 2025 6:14 PM

R98 I think it’s a more simple explanation. She got popular starring in big budget movies that half the populace went to see. She also was very attractive, tall, with some sexy ass legs. She had a self deprecating personality along with a tad of Californian girl next door. That all worked well with the rise in social media, quick late night bites, YouTube, instagram etc. However that doesn’t make money, at least not for her or any Hollywood studio, not in any substantial way. The films she would make, the 2010s version of a Roberts or Bullock film, people no longer went to see in THEATERS. All Lawrence’s comedies that flopped were big hits on streaming, particularly Netflix. I mean you are right in a way. I wouldn’t say she is less popular. She just isn’t popular in a way that produces millions of dollars for a studio. With streaming will the superstars be the actors or the content producers and writers?

Notice that all the big standup comedians that get big ratings on Netflix are now household names as it pertains to pop culture. They dominant streaming and the water cooler conversation. Outside of that, the show or movie is always bigger than the star in it. I couldn’t name one Game of Thrones actor by first and last name.

by Anonymousreply 123July 27, 2025 6:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 124July 27, 2025 6:48 PM

Miranda Cosgrove.

I did see her in an almost unseen movie called North Hollywood (2021) that I liked a lot. She was in the iCarly revival. But in some ways, forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 125July 27, 2025 6:54 PM

[quote]They're not exactly well known.

People forget the "to me" portion of these statements. I could ask if someone knows who Jackson Wang (he is overseas) or Amelia Dimoldenberg (everyone gets booked on her show these days) and they may not know who they are but they are important to a large group of people.

Some of this stuff is locked into generation and age group. There are people who have been forgotten, period. Then there are people who aren't as big as they were but still around.

R98, Jennifer Lawrence was on WTF with Marc Maron years ago and came across as funny and intelligent. It was the first time I actually liked her. She had a lot of self-awareness. She said that if the movie she was promoting flopped she was done for. She talked about how her past few films had done that, and made it clear she knows how that works. It was sad, but at least she was prepared for it. I got the sense she knew it was going to flop.

by Anonymousreply 126July 27, 2025 6:55 PM

Well, the thread title does specify "big a decade ago."

But I have also mentioned some people who were not very big.

by Anonymousreply 127July 27, 2025 6:57 PM

R124 She may not be a great beauty but I’m talking simple human nature. Men find her highly attractive; women wouldn’t mind looking like her. She’s tall, slim but not too skinny, with a nice rack and long legs. Her features aren’t so classic Hollywood beautiful. I thought that from day one. Also it seem like towards the end of the aughts every big female star was a former Disney or child star. Lawrence was always a grown woman from day 1 even at only 19 or 20. That helped her sex appeal in ways in wouldn’t had she been a teen star. I’m bisexual btw.

by Anonymousreply 128July 27, 2025 6:58 PM

Maybe not quite forgotten, but...

Tyler Posey

by Anonymousreply 129July 27, 2025 6:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 137July 27, 2025 7:14 PM

A lot of TV news people.

by Anonymousreply 138July 27, 2025 7:15 PM

R11 Bitch please. Clooney is the reason we had our first black female presidential candidate on a mainstream ticket. Oprah as a singular person the public wants to see is diminished sure, but she forever changed media and pop culture. Things that we take as the norm is built our public conscious now. She introduced the concept of having doctors and psychiatrists on daytime tv, now even with their own talk shows. She introduced the idea of a mainstream woman’s book club, where celebrities impact the sale of a book. She introduced the concept of pop culture being married to everyday life especially as it pertains to domestic life for women and raising children. Joe Rogan needs to thank Oprah. She was the first to do a pop culture take on every aspect of life.

I seem to remember seeing Dr. Benjamin Spock on TV when I was a kid in the 60s. Also Dr. Lendon Smith. And of course there was Dr. Joyce Brothers (not a medical doctor, but she was a psychologist).

Amanda Plummer won Tony for Agnes of God. She also starred in "Pulp Fiction," "The Fisher King," and "So I Married an Axe Murderer".

She was definitely A-list. Plus, her father is Hollywood Royalty.

by Anonymousreply 151July 27, 2025 9:53 PM

This woman was never popular. She is what you called a working actress. I mean yes she was somewhat popular but not popular popular. She was never even more popular than say a Parker Posey. For one she is borderline fugly so all those big flicks she was in, she was never going to get Maxim or People magazine features.

R211 they launched their Nirvana Black and Nirvana White perfumes in 2013. In 2016 they added Bourbon and Rose and then French Grey in 2017. I think the line was discontinued in 2019. It was very popular for a while. I guess because I'm into fragrance this is what I remembered. I don't think they have ever gone away as household names but they don't do much. The most press they got was the Mary Kate and Heath Ledger thing.

Is it that she works when she wants, or she doesn't really get many offers. She's never been iA-list, she's never been a household name, and she's never carried a movie on her own. She's rather odd looking and a particular type and can be effective in the right part

R211, R212, they may no longer be front and center in the public eye but as they aged out of the kiddie roles, they chose to go behind the scenes. They own The Row clothing line which has a $1 billion valuation. You've probably seen various celebs wearing their clothes.

Now, he's completely forgotten, and no film or television production in Hollywood will touch him with a ten-foot pole due to his sexual misconduct scandal.
