by Anonymousreply 9July 24, 2025 4:44 PM

Oddly enough just last night my neighbor was kind of a crazy hoarder asked me to help him pull some stuff out for a yard sale he wants to do today and there was a pile of records and one of them was a chunk mangione record and I even chuckled about it.

Anyway given this week I think you better today we'd all better check in on our favorite celebrities and make sure they're doing okay.

by Anonymousreply 10July 24, 2025 4:46 PM

I’ve had a dream of having Herb push his Tijuana Brass into my Tijuana Taxi and covering me in his — wait for it — whipped cream.

I RISE every time I think about it.

by Anonymousreply 31July 24, 2025 5:50 PM

Gotta admit, Herb was hot.

by Anonymousreply 32July 24, 2025 6:53 PM

Ok so that’s two today, with Hulk Hogan. Who will be number three??

by Anonymousreply 36July 24, 2025 8:47 PM

37 responses, and nobody has gotten around to saying:

I guess he didn't feel so good.

by Anonymousreply 37July 24, 2025 9:02 PM

Damn he didn’t make it to the new season of King.of the Hill

by Anonymousreply 38July 24, 2025 9:10 PM

I recall reading that after Feel So Good came out and he got super famous, he became a complete nightmare. But for the life of me I can’t find any stories about it.

Anyway….

by Anonymousreply 39July 24, 2025 9:11 PM

Hill Where the Lord Hides is my favorite song of his. Love for a fellow Upstate NYer. He was born in Rochester.

by Anonymousreply 40July 24, 2025 9:19 PM

Nice try, donald r39.

by Anonymousreply 41July 24, 2025 9:28 PM

Not a huge name, but here's #3 for the day.

Last Surviving Cast Member of 'Hogan's Heroes' Dies at 89.

Though some of the supporting cast is still alive.

Chuck Mangione is supposedly doing the great trumpet break on this classic disco track from the Andrea True Connection. (Don't let Andrea True's dance stylings and the vocals about her porn career distract you from the reason we're here.)

One of the local TV stations in my hometown played a Chuck Mangione song, "Bellavia," as they scrolled the school and business closings during snowstorms. All Gen Xers and Millennials who grew up in that area instantly associate it with waiting anxiously to see the name of their school district float by, awarding them with a day off from school. I've heard stories about Mangione flying into a rage every time he met someone who told him that story. Apparently he wrote that song to honor his beloved mother, and it pissed him off to hear that we only think of it as the school closing theme.

Rest easy, Chuck. Sorry we got on your nerves. Our hearts were in the right place.

r43 That is one of the greatest pop songs of all time, imho.

by Anonymousreply 45July 24, 2025 11:39 PM

I've been getting into some of that 70s jazz stuff and loved his music. RIP

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2025 11:44 PM

So sad. Not feelin so good

Chuck Mangione, Kenny G, and George Benson, IMO popularized the Soft Jazz genre.

Sometimes that type of music just hits the spot.

by Anonymousreply 48July 24, 2025 11:58 PM

He was only two awards shy of the EGOT.

by Anonymousreply 49July 25, 2025 12:20 AM

Totally. He produced a FUCK TON of music too

by Anonymousreply 50July 25, 2025 12:57 AM

He let Shirley MacLaine do a rap song on one of his albums *shudder*.

by Anonymousreply 51July 25, 2025 1:42 AM

One can only imagine what Shirley MacLane did to Chuck Mangione for that privilege.

by Anonymousreply 52July 25, 2025 2:36 AM

Did he like the homosexual where the man go upinto the man?

by Anonymousreply 53July 25, 2025 2:47 AM

Needless to say, it will be much worse when Yanni goes.

by Anonymousreply 62July 25, 2025 12:26 PM
