Judy Garland's Birthday - June 10
It's the 102nd anniversary of her birth, for those who celebrate.
TCM is showing her movies all day. I have Hulu and I get TCM East and West. I work from home and caught "Get Happy" from Summer Stock on TCM East.
There are so many great numbers by her, but this one is in my top three.

Judy was one of the most talented singers ever. She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay people were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her struggles and she theirs.

Okay, you are really weird. You post this same thing on every thread either about or that mentions Judy. The exact same fucking thing.

She would be 103 years old. I'm pretty old and only have a very vague memory of seeing her on something like Merv Griffin when I was a small child. I remember my mom making a comment about how badly she had aged and telling me she played the girl in Wizzard of Oz. I imagine most of the "Judy Garland gays" are extinct by now.

Dustin, darling, the quote is a hackneyed meme joke that's been posted tongue-in-cheek for years around here.
Get with the program!

It would be my mother's 104th (born 1921.) She lived to 93.

R2, not only has that dippy paragraph been around for ages, the person changes and it’s fitted to them.

How fortuitous that she happened to be born during gay pride month 103 years ago! No wonder they’re friends of Dorothy forever!

[R2] I hope folks keep posting it. I’ve been using it as a memory test. If I remember I’ve seen it before, I’m relieved.

If Judy could have completed only one film she started or was even mentioned she might do, I'd pick "The Barkleys of Broadway". It was a chance to re-team with Astaire, a score written just for her by Harry Warren and Ira Gershwin, and was not a period piece, a change of pace for Judy, plus Ginger Rogers mangles the role. It would have been a far better film with Judy.

Of course it would have. Judy had mastered the art of musical film -- she could do both comedy and drama, she could dance, and heaven knows she could sing. Hey, we're talking about her seventy years after her film career pretty much ended.
