Sinner fascinates me; he has no personality but wants it so bad. So the tennis has a quality that he doesn't appear to have. I know this is typical for athletes, but there's such a stark contrast to Carlos, where the tennis and the person are more aligned--or expressed, perhaps.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | June 8, 2025 8:34 PM |
Sampras was sort of the same way -amazing game, little personality, but unlike Sinner I don't think he "want[ed] it so bad."
by Anonymous | reply 113 | June 8, 2025 8:48 PM |
R112, Alcaraz, though, brings Sinner out of his shell. Normally he’s “consistent” in the worst sense: you’re never surprised. Against Alcaraz he can come up with some very creative and startling shots.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | June 8, 2025 8:52 PM |
Alcaraz is just lucky that Sinner didn’t lose to Djokovic because Djokovic would likely have beaten him.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | June 8, 2025 8:55 PM |
Good point r112
Compared to a lot of topsy-turvy finals…you sensed the mood shifts strictly by the shots…the “emotional” part of the game was nowhere on the same level of display for such a big match. 🤷🏻♂️
by Anonymous | reply 116 | June 8, 2025 9:04 PM |
Sampras was a killer and all he cared about was winning Wimbledon and being number one in the world.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | June 8, 2025 9:10 PM |
that's fascinating, R116, and well put. We sensed the mood of the match by the shots, and less on the expression of the players - is that what you meant? Carlos had some Vamoses, but typically very little from Sinner.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | June 8, 2025 9:11 PM |
Couldn't do it without the drugs lololol
by Anonymous | reply 119 | June 8, 2025 9:17 PM |

I hope carlos can use some of that 2.9 million dollars check to get a dental cleaning...
by Anonymous | reply 121 | June 8, 2025 9:31 PM |
Sinner doesn't have a big personality on court and never cups his ear or shouts a huge "come on" or anything. But he's not THAT dead. He certainly reacts at big moments - even if it just his little racket shake or fist to his box.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | June 8, 2025 9:41 PM |
He’s really really, nearly dead—no Wessonality.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | June 8, 2025 9:56 PM |
I’m definitely team Carlos but I have to say, it’s hard to ever feel bad about a loss to Sinner.
He is ridiculously talented and has clearly worked his ass off. And he is polite and humble.

Horrible Hingis presenting? Might as well throw Nastase, Kyrgios and Spirlea into that spectacle.

"Seems ironic that Sinner lost in that fashion after his inclusion in the tournament was a controversial decision. It's like the tennis gods got their own back."
But it wasn't controversial. The drug enforcement body made its decision, he served his ban, and he returned and had a ranking high enough for direct entry. Some people don't like it, but it's really not broadly seen as controversial.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | June 9, 2025 1:46 AM |

Matters which version of young. He was quite handsome/hot in some incarnations.

R150 When the decision was made to allow him to play this tournament and serve such a short ban there was a lot of commentary and in the words of Djokovic "The majority of the players feel like there is favouritism happening. It seems like it appears that you can almost affect the outcome if you are a top player, if you have access to the top lawyers and whatnot."
Nick Kyrgios said "So WADA come out and say it would be a 1-2 year ban. Obviously Sinner's team have done everything in their power to just go ahead and take a 3 month ban, no titles lost, no prize money lost. Guilty or not? Sad day for tennis. Fairness in tennis does not exist." In a separate post, he added: "I know a lot of players that are feeling the same way at the moment. "So he was found guilty - hence the ban. But didn't get stripped of anything and can play the French. Sad sad sad day."

R112 There's a reason they're calling him a robot. He has no personality and his game is boring too. Yes, he plays amazing tennis, but it's almost too perfect. Alcaraz's game has more flare. It's more fun to watch. That's my opinion anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | June 9, 2025 7:20 AM |
The funniest thing I saw was when a Sinner fan commented that Alcaraz plays more exciting tennis.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | June 9, 2025 7:32 AM |
Carlos plays with passion and displays it on court. You'll never see the crowd chanting Jannik's name like they did for Carlos yesterday. He doesn't build a connection with them.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | June 9, 2025 7:33 AM |
Carlos is great for the popularity of tennis as a sport because he's genuine, What You See Is What You Get, quite exuberant, incredibly athletic, knows how to work a crowd, astonishingly gracious in defeat and, hum, bulging. Where "bulging" is the operative word around here...
Sinner is none of those things and he does come off quite robotic out there. But the greatest rivalries in tennis have always been based on opposite characters (Martina the Fire Vs. Chris the Ice maiden for instance), and I think that the opposition between these two will help tennis popularity with most people relating to and supporting the more human one, Carlos, against the flat-affect one with his unrivaled level of tennis skills.
Men's tennis is very lucky to have had the Big 4, the Big 3, the Big 2, a couple of years of transition and what now looks like a new Big 2. I couldn't say so much about women's tennis, even though, yes, Ben & Courtney, it really keeps us all year long on the edge of our seat!
by Anonymous | reply 165 | June 9, 2025 10:31 AM |
R165. Having watched tennis for many years, there are very few tennis players as charming and endearing as Carlos (Guga, Dimitrov, LaMonf...) but no one combines that exciting tennis with wins. The Big three, on court, were rarely smiling, they were down to business. Carlos is something totally different that we have never seen. I think his first USOPEN was won on personality alone. He charmed us all. And, yes, he is stacked and that bulge is mesmerizing. If they can get all that hair, that face, teeth working soon....world beware.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | June 9, 2025 1:40 PM |

Great match, great sportsmen, huge young talents, equal to the Big 3.. Sinner is a quiet and very humble guy. Carlos is also very humble and nice- and glows. His game and racket talent when in top gear is awesome. I like them both- but can’t help liking Carlito more.

Sinner's dad was too busy with work to go...
"My dad was not here because he was working today," Sinner, who hails from a German-speaking Alpine region in northern Italy told a press conference. "Nothing of our success changes in the family." His father works as a chef in the mountains.
Sinner had a full box for support, with his team of coaches as well as his mother, who was seen welling up and being extremely nervous as her son wasted three match points in the fourth set. "It was nice to see my mom here. And yeah, I guess my dad, he was watching on TV - if he finished work. It's okay."

Novax must be disappointed that wasn't a player in likely what will be one of the forever referenced matches in recent tennis history; the Alcaraz/Sinner Roland Garros 2025 Final. Even as the runner-up, Sinner, along with Champion Alcaraz, treated both their peers and spectators to an unprecedented match level not soon forgotten. Even if Novax gets an easy draw and eeks out another major, I say his career has sailed.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | June 12, 2025 12:15 AM |

I thought there was some seriously interesting body language during the post-match Alcaraz/Ferrero clinch. Watch how Carlos goes to put his hand on JC's head then lets his arm drop awkwardly, as if he became aware of the intimacy of the gesture and bailed on it. It made me think that Carlos knows there's speculation about their closeness, regardless of whether or not anything is going on. (I mean, I doubt they're doing it but I certainly don't mind the mental picture.)
Sorry the clinch is mid-clip but the other options I found were from the opposite angle where the move is less visible.

Each will have their own opinion of GOAT, based on values and metrics that are important to them. Its obvious that Djokovic recognized his own deficiencies in some of the softer metrics, which likely contributed to his maniacal fight to 'win more titles than the other two'. Okay, you got that metric, but not everyone is going to use that specific criteria to decide for themselves who there GOAT is. I do have some empathy for Djokovic in that he he wants to have all the metrics, including the Federer/Nadal adoration, but for the most part hasn't, so far, been able to make that work out. perhaps it will come on his retirement though.

If he can keep up this momentum we could see him regularly in the qualifications for slams, and hopefully either direct entry or wildcards for the South American swing 250s next year.

He's still in Challenger and Futures purgatory. I hope the catches a break - a qualifying wildcard to a main tour tournament and he someone makes it through and wins a match or something. I'd love to see a gay player get to main tour level. But it's rough out there.

With his ranking, maybe qualies wildcard, R312. Even that would be a big deal. I can't see a main draw wildcard - though it would be nice. I'd imagine some people would complain since a main draw wild card is such a big deal in terms of guaranteed money and points - even losing in the first round. He's not American, not from a reciprocity country for wildcards, not a young upstart (he's 25) seen as potentially being a star, not a grizzled and/or popular veteran who was successful and dropped in the rankings. But, again, it sure would be nice.

Don't dangle a wildcard in front of him so he can fail ugly. He has to be confident , that comes with earning your position. Otherwise, you know what the chatter will be ...
by Anonymous | reply 318 | June 15, 2025 8:03 PM |
A wildcard for qualies would be fine. Who cares what the chatter will be.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | June 15, 2025 8:05 PM |
If you're around the Top 200 - and he's not far off that -an invitation for a quallies wildcard would be normal. The first round of Slam qualification is 128 players - which takes you down to c. 200 in the rankings if you assume all eligilbe players enter (of course, in reality, many players don't due to injuries, disliking the the surface, more realistic opportunities for points in Challengers etc.)

Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz to form blockbuster partnership at US Open - as Grand Slam champions team up for revamped mixed doubles event
by Anonymous | reply 334 | June 17, 2025 2:01 PM |
Emma Raducanu will form a blockbuster mixed doubles partnership with two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open’s revamped mixed doubles event this year.
The US Open have moved the tournament to the week before the main singles draws in an effort to attract big names - and they have certainly succeeded.
Raducanu has often spoken of her admiration for Alcaraz’s creative, free-flowing game and was in the crowd to watch the 22-year-old Spaniard beat Novak Djokovic to win his second Wimbledon title last year.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | June 17, 2025 2:01 PM |
The British No1 reached the last 16 of Wimbledon last year, and partially put that form down to watching Alcaraz.
‘The last couple matches I’ve been following Carlos, and it’s just good to watch before my match,’ she said.
‘And sometimes in certain moments you in a way try to emulate certain shots.’ The entry list is still provisional but if two of the most famous players in tennis do make the start line, the interest would be huge.
Jack Draper is also on the entry list, to play with Chinese world No4 Qinwen Zheng.
In all there are 10 Grand Slam champions in a glittering field which also includes Nick Kyrgios teaming up with Naomi Osaka and tennis power couple Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Others pairs on the list are: world No1 Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, Novak Djokovic and fellow Serb Olga Danilovic, Italian duo Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti, Russians Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov, Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev.
There are also three All-American pairs: Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul; Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton; Frances Tiafoe and Madison Keys, and last year’s mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.
There was plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth at the unfairness of this - but it is tough to argue with that entry list.

If true, it will completely fulfill the USTA's goal of making mixed a showy event. Stunty, indeed, and not so fair to the regular doubles players. But it will being people out more than mixed doubles usually does.

Big Jack has not been playing well this week tbh. Too many unforced errors and his serve has not been the weapon it should be on grass.

Andy Murray set to have a say in design of his Wimbledon statue - as CEO reveals unveiling date for tribute to two-time champion
by Anonymous | reply 525 | June 24, 2025 6:34 PM |
Andy Murray will play a role in designing his statue at Wimbledon, which is planned to be unveiled in time for the Championships' 150th anniversary in 2027.
The two-time Wimbledon champion achieved three of his career peaks on the All England Club's iconic Centre Court, including his 2012 Olympic gold-medal win.
Discussions about how the club should commemorate the Briton's triumphs have been ongoing since Murray won his first Wimbledon in 2013 and became the first British man since Fred Perry 77 years prior to win the Grand Slam on home soil.

So the plot thickens. What major tournament will put out for the Novaxx statue?
Rafa was obvious for Roland Garros, and he got it. Plus a court plaque on Chatrier
Now Andy gets a statue at Wimbledon.
US Open would never think of a statue to any other than an American citizen.
Novaxx has the most titles at 10 for the Aus Open, and rightfully if he gets a statue, that's the tournament to do it; BUT, they did DEPORT him ....bwhahahaha...so maybe just a court plaque in Laver?

I'd recommend Arthur Fils but he's not playing. In fact, things looks grim - he has a stress fracture in his back. There's literally nothing to do but rest while that injury heals - no pounding on his feet (maybe swim?). He had good momentum going into Roland Garros and momentum can be tough to reignite.
I feel we've done Musetti, Draper, Alcaraz. I don't find Shelton that attractive, but the sweaty clothes, hot body pics of him are always welcome.

Djokovic Vs Muller
Norrie Vs Bautista Agut

Big Jack’s predicted draw:

by Anonymous | reply 594 | June 27, 2025 11:02 AM |
Let me reformat that so it’s actually readable
Rd 1 - S.Baez
Rd 2 - M.Cilic
Rd 3 - A.Bublik
Rd 4 - J.Mensik
QF - Djokovic
SF - Sinner
F - Alcaraz
by Anonymous | reply 595 | June 27, 2025 11:03 AM |
Bublik then Mensic is quite the one-two punch - I can't see Draper surviving both. They've both beaten in big tournaments him recently.
Novak, on the other hand - after a potentially tricky first round - has a relative cake walk to the QFs, comme d'habitude...
Rd 2 - Evans
Rd 3 - Michelsen
Rd 4 - De Minaur
