I don't know who that is, OP, but unlike Lucille Bluth, I would VERY MUCH care to find out!

A great selection to kick off Wimby!

A moment to honor the Duchess of Kent— she’s 92, not well and no longer seen in public. DL patron saint of Wimbledon.

by Anonymousreply 4June 27, 2025 11:42 AM

R2 are you proud promoting such a vile racist bitch????

by Anonymousreply 5June 27, 2025 11:42 AM

No idiot. That’s a different woman.

THE Duchess of Kent famously handed out Wimbledon trophies over decades.

by Anonymousreply 6June 27, 2025 11:45 AM

Nice photo to open the thread. Bravo!

by Anonymousreply 7June 27, 2025 11:48 AM

R5 You're thinking of Princess Michael of Kent - who is a vile racist bitch.

The Duchess of Kent, by all accounts, is quite lovely.

Who’s ass is on the grass at Op?

by Anonymousreply 9June 27, 2025 11:52 AM

Why is Op using a mispronunciation? That’s a warning from the chair umpire.

by Anonymousreply 10June 27, 2025 11:55 AM

Can't wait for Wimbledon. The best grand slam of the year and, as I'm from the UK, the time zone and the coverage are perfect.

I’ve heard several overseas players pronounce it Wimbleton. They probably think they are being very correct in sounding the “t”.

by Anonymousreply 15June 27, 2025 3:11 PM

No “T” —it’s just not right.

by Anonymousreply 16June 27, 2025 3:14 PM

Drop the T !!!

[quote] The village is referred to as "Wimbedounyng" in a charter signed by King Edgar the Peaceful in 967. The name Wimbledon means "Wynnman's hill", with the final element of the name being the Celtic "dun" (hill).[4] The name is shown on J. Cary's 1786 map of the London area as "Wimbleton", and the current spelling appears to have been settled on relatively recently in the early 19th century, the last in a long line of variations.

The “T” used to be right

Place names often have idiosyncratic pronunciations that only the locals know. It's one way to tell a local from an outsider.

by Anonymousreply 39June 27, 2025 5:37 PM

Fritz dominating so far. NID. They're both headcases but ADF is worse. Fritz has been playing better lately and his serve is a force on grass meanwhile ADF is best on clay and struggles on grass. This is as expected imo.

Nick Kyrgios 'lands eye-catching new role at Wimbledon' weeks after being dropped by the BBC and hitting out at decision as 'very strange'

Disrupted by knee and wrist injuries, the 30-year-old will not be involved as a player, making this the third consecutive year he has missed out. His last appearance on the court at Wimbledon came in 2022, when he lost the final to Novak Djokovic.

Kyrgios was also overlooked by ESPN this year despite featuring on their panel at the Australian Open, and previously worked for the Tennis Channel and TNT Sports. He is said to be joining the radio station to record a daily half-hour show alongside co-presenter Gordon Smart. Kyrgios will also make appearances alongside Jim White and Simon Jordan in the morning across the fortnight.

Before his new job became public, Kyrgios had taken a thinly-veiled dig at his rumoured BBC replacement - only for him to shoot down the speculation.

Kyrgios claimed that Christopher Eubanks, the world No 108, had been lined up and after beating each member of the 'Big Four' - Roger Feder, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray - he expressed his bemusement with the move.

'It's unfortunate but it's probably their loss more than mine,' he told The Guardian.

'I understand they've got Chris Eubanks, but he hasn't beaten the greatest of all time multiple times. When someone's beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it's very strange you wouldn't want them adding knowledge.'

Eubanks himself took to social media to insist he would not be working with the BBC.

'As far as I know, my team hasn't even spoken to anyone from [the] BBC so I'm not sure where that came from,' the 29-year-old said on X.

by Anonymousreply 48June 27, 2025 9:32 PM

Nick is nutz

by Anonymousreply 49June 27, 2025 9:38 PM

Hurkacz has withdrawn from Wimbledon.

by Anonymousreply 50June 27, 2025 9:40 PM

A half hour shitty radio show? I love this slide into irrelevance for the arrogant jackass!

by Anonymousreply 51June 27, 2025 9:41 PM

Tennis and AZZ are a must.....no argument....flat asses and tiny asses.....don't apply.

by Anonymousreply 52June 27, 2025 10:17 PM

Kyrgios certainly has the face for radio!

by Anonymousreply 53June 27, 2025 10:34 PM

Thrilled that Kyrgios has been sidelined.

He actually does a decent job of commentating and I like new voices. But he continues to be an asshole to so many people in the sport. Eubanks is five times the human that Nick is.

by Anonymousreply 54June 27, 2025 10:40 PM

Granted, I don't follow women's tennis as closely because... you know... women, but who is this American McCartney Kessler person seeded #32? Good on her, whoever she is, but HUH?!!

by Anonymousreply 55June 27, 2025 10:45 PM

I feel like Nick has BPD or something. I know he brags about beating "The big four" but only one of those players is active. Chris is a current player, knows all the conversations in the locker room, knows all the players, and really in the trenches. He knows the lower ranked players from the early rounds well because he's among them and plays them on a regular basis. That's invaluable to the commentary box because I doubt that most of the other commentators are getting any info outside of what their researchers give them on a piece of paper.

by Anonymousreply 82June 29, 2025 12:12 AM

I don't think anything romantic is happening between Carlos and Emma, it's all just to drum up the interest for tennis and their sponsors. Both sponsored by Nike as well

by Anonymousreply 83June 29, 2025 12:20 AM

I don't think the Carlos/Emma thing entirely came out of nowhere. I think he has/had a crush on her (first to like all her social media posts), but it doesn't seem like she reciprocates.
