Separate Datalounge Forum For Politics?

I'm sick of 1/3 of the threads being about politics. Can't Muriel make a tab at the top of DL's welcome page and new posters mark threads as political or non-political. Hell, add one for Sports, Entertainment, Sex, and Various.

by Anonymousreply 29June 9, 2025 1:24 PM

That was done years ago and now seems to be defunct.

by Anonymousreply 1June 8, 2025 3:37 PM

What do you expect, OP, for a website that costs less than a cup of coffee a month?

by Anonymousreply 2June 8, 2025 3:40 PM

Being exposed to a wide mix of subjects makes it interesting.

by Anonymousreply 3June 8, 2025 3:41 PM

Is anyone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read any of the political threads, OP?

Simply pass over them, if you have no desire to read them.

by Anonymousreply 4June 8, 2025 3:42 PM

Decades ago when I discovered Datalounge there were two categories, Gossip and Politics, and there was a strictly enforced total ban on posting about soap operas!

by Anonymousreply 5June 8, 2025 3:43 PM

Mixing topics is literal violence!

Can we send you reparations, OP?

by Anonymousreply 6June 8, 2025 3:48 PM

Just skip over the topics you don't like.

by Anonymousreply 7June 8, 2025 3:50 PM

Yes, there should be. And the person who starts a thread should be able to kick out posters who extraneously inject politics into non-political threads.

“THEATRE GOSSIP #6969 Let’s talk about Sondheim!”

R1: “but MAGA”

OP: 🥾R1 “bye bitch”

by Anonymousreply 8June 8, 2025 3:51 PM

I like logging on and seeing different topics- politics, art, science, sex, wine, literature, history, film, thoughts and feelings.

by Anonymousreply 9June 8, 2025 3:52 PM

It's getting ridiculous, it's all Trump, tr4nnies, Gaza. Rinse and repeat. I go to DL to escape those topics.

I don't want to tell people what to talk about but just like OP, I would like to have the option of not seeing that shit on my timeline. Shame the Ignore button maxes at a certain number of blocked threads, it's pretty much useless given just how many Trump threads there are.

by Anonymousreply 10June 8, 2025 3:57 PM

Maybe we don’t need separate pages. But let OPs tag threads as “Not Politics” so we can filter for what we want to see when we want to see it.

by Anonymousreply 11June 8, 2025 3:58 PM

Did you know you can just scroll past and not read/engage in a thread you're not intetested in? That's a basic function on all social media sites now. Is there a teenager in your life who can show/explain to you this concept and function?

by Anonymousreply 12June 8, 2025 4:14 PM

R12, I don’t want to see it in the first place. Any teenager in my life would be using a platform that would let them avoid seeing it in the first place. Go talk to somebody younger than 70. You will understand this soon.

Fucking geriatric

by Anonymousreply 13June 8, 2025 4:18 PM

No. Fuck off, Snowflake.

by Anonymousreply 14June 8, 2025 4:20 PM

Unfortunately I think that cunt Trump has just permeated everything and everyone. He’s like an especially aggressive variant of Covid 19.

by Anonymousreply 15June 8, 2025 4:23 PM

I tried to say this right after inauguration with the overload of Trump threads.

by Anonymousreply 16June 8, 2025 4:24 PM

R14, take your meds Grandma

by Anonymousreply 17June 8, 2025 4:26 PM

R13 - if anyone sounds geriatric in this thread, babylove, it's you. My god, it's a discussion forum and you get to open what you want to see and ignore what you don't. No one needs to cater to your petulant desire to block from your delicate, sensitive vision the topics that you don't want to see. Just fucking scroll past, you dumb turd.

by Anonymousreply 18June 8, 2025 7:49 PM

[quote]Shame the Ignore button maxes at a certain number of blocked threads, it's pretty much useless given just how many Trump threads there are.

I didn't know that. I blocked a bunch of politics threads after the election. I don't block many threads now, except ones that have to do with Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. I don't know if it's one person or several, but they are annoying AF

by Anonymousreply 19June 8, 2025 8:02 PM

Great Idea OP. That will leave much more room for your important priorities.

by Anonymousreply 20June 8, 2025 8:09 PM

R18. Wow, you're so well spoken...said no one, ever.

by Anonymousreply 21June 8, 2025 8:33 PM

So tender to the touch

by Anonymousreply 22June 8, 2025 8:38 PM

topic flairs (relationships, gossip, politics) that can be filtered out would help. Don't know why DL doesn't have it.

by Anonymousreply 23June 8, 2025 8:39 PM

Talk about trolling.

by Anonymousreply 24June 8, 2025 8:52 PM

I’ve always suspected Muriel changed the format to keep people on the site longer R1. Now you have to scroll through everything rather than go straight to a subject you are looking for. Since the site does have ads, it might boost the numbers for “engagement”.

by Anonymousreply 25June 8, 2025 9:01 PM

No matter what there’s always going to be threads you don’t want to dive into. Just scroll past them.

To be honest I think it does all of us some good not to have every single aspect of our lives fully customized to our own tastes and specifications. It’s important to be reminded that our are not the only interests opinions and passions out there, or the only ones that count

by Anonymousreply 26June 8, 2025 10:48 PM

When I block threads they never stay blocked. They just pop up again after awhile?

by Anonymousreply 27June 8, 2025 11:42 PM

R27 Block individuals instead They stay blocked.

When someone posts a political thread, I block that individual. Yes, I will miss some great threads they may post as well, but at least when they keep posting new political threads, they won't show up in my feeds

by Anonymousreply 28June 9, 2025 1:05 PM

No, but I propose a parallel Data Lounge for the Autism Troll.
