Patti LuPone drags EVERYTHING, Part 2: You’ll Think It Strange When She Tries To Explain How She Feels

Part 1 linked below

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 284June 3, 2025 12:47 AM

Has Christine Ebersole commented?

(Even though Patti did not mention her)

by Anonymousreply 1May 29, 2025 9:07 PM

Team LuPone All Day Every Day

by Anonymousreply 2May 29, 2025 9:09 PM

Very disappointed in how Audra responded. You liked a post stating that Lupone was a racist because she criticized a show for being too loud, and yet you want to feign innocence because you don't know why she's upset with you? Give me a break.

You could have used this as a platform to call out Lupone's bad behavior, and the power imbalances between stars and minor players (Which Lupone has been infamous for). Instead, it's some poor man's Mariah Carey "I don't know her" routine.

by Anonymousreply 3May 29, 2025 9:15 PM

Lupone said that her beef with Audra happened long before the HK drama.

by Anonymousreply 4May 29, 2025 9:20 PM

How would the Facts of Life Girls contend with Patti LuPone?

For that matter, would she allow them to live long enough to try?

by Anonymousreply 5May 29, 2025 9:26 PM

Well clearly something persuaded Audra to like Kelcia's post. Rather than pretend you don't know, use that platform to air her out. You don't have to sink to Patti's level.

Yeah, we know Patti is a bitch, but throwing rocks and hiding hands doesn't make you great either.

I hope Nicole wins the Tony.

by Anonymousreply 6May 29, 2025 9:39 PM

r6, if Kecia had simply posted "Patti is a cunt," and Audra had liked that, it would be legitimate for you and Patti to go after Audra for that. But Audra may just have liked the idea that African-American culture historically gets in trouble for being too loud.

I am not surprised that Patti reacted the way that she did, because she's a narcissist and takes everything not 100% supportive and worshipful as a slight. But I am not convinced Audra meant that "like" as a direct attack on Patti, nor that we get anywhere by assuming it was.

by Anonymousreply 7May 29, 2025 9:47 PM

On the other thread is this:

Nathan Lane:

"Uh, there's only one Queen of Broadway, baby...and, it's not the bitch who can't fill seats at the Majestic..."

Is that creative license or did Lane really wade in? It seems odd given paths could potentially cross on the Gilded Age set, or at least, cast and crew party circuit. Am I Rosing?

by Anonymousreply 8May 29, 2025 9:49 PM

If there is indeed "only one Queen of Broadway," then we all know it's neither Patti nor Audra!

by Anonymousreply 9May 29, 2025 9:54 PM
But Audra may just have liked the idea that African-American culture historically gets in trouble for being too loud.

Then she could have said that, and not even brought up Lupone. She would have been publicly supporting Kecia as well. Instead, she indirectly shades Kecia as well by ignoring the points she made in her Instagram post.
you and Patti

I don't think any of them come off looking good in this. So try again.

by Anonymousreply 10May 29, 2025 9:55 PM

Kecia Lewis is a cowardly cunt who found her one moment to be noticed in a national level by falsely accusing someone of racism. That is one dangerous piece of shit and she should be shunned and avoided at all costs.

Broadway people didn’t get the memo that the cancelling/witch burning of 2021 - all accusations, no “trial” -no longer plays in 2025. It may be fashionable at their snarky cocktail parties but the rest of the world couldn’t care less.

At least with LuPone, who is a tedious, angry, ingrate, you know where you stand. She’s no phony. Sneaky scum like Kecia Lewis weaponize social media to prop up their basic, amateur narcissism and procure corrupted attention.

She is truly disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 11May 29, 2025 10:14 PM

Kesha is on Broadway now?

by Anonymousreply 12May 29, 2025 10:18 PM

To R599 from the previous thread:

In case you didn’t know dementia/Alzheimers can be hereditary. It is indeed true about DK. And it’s pretty fucking sad.

by Anonymousreply 13May 29, 2025 10:39 PM

She's not dishwater. She runs hot, she runs cold. Nothing in between

by Anonymousreply 14May 29, 2025 10:50 PM

You know who’s pissed?

Betty Lynn just finished a well received run at Joe’s pub and NOBODY had brought that up yet!

by Anonymousreply 15May 29, 2025 11:22 PM

Kecia Lewis is a very angry, damaged person to race bait someone for a comment about the show next door hearing your music through a shared wall. Many Broadway shows over the years have voiced this complaint about their neighbors.

Nobody but unserious bandwagon types are listening to Kecia Lewis.

I'm not.

by Anonymousreply 16May 29, 2025 11:31 PM

Love the people at All That Chat getting themselves worked up because Patti BROKE PROTOCOL by intervening in something that the stage managers should have sorted out.

A sound bleed is a serious problem for the audience (and performers) and her show’s stage manager either didn’t step up or wasn’t able to resolve it with their counterpart.

If Patti had connections, why shouldn’t she use them for the good of the production?

by Anonymousreply 17May 29, 2025 11:41 PM

Someone like Kecsa who responds to a noise complaint with accusations of "racial microaggressions" is not a serious person.

by Anonymousreply 18May 29, 2025 11:51 PM

Patti sho’ is ugly !

by Anonymousreply 19May 30, 2025 12:00 AM

Has it really been eleven years since Audra hung out with Patti? I could've sworn the two performed together at some benefit concert a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 20May 30, 2025 12:03 AM

She's going to be on And Just Like That in the next few weeks, too. Timing is interesting. LOL

by Anonymousreply 21May 30, 2025 12:23 AM
Nobody but unserious bandwagon types are listening to Kecia Lewis.
I'm not.

Are you more of a serious bandwagon type?

by Anonymousreply 22May 30, 2025 12:30 AM

I like the cut of her jib.

by Anonymousreply 23May 30, 2025 12:34 AM

I really would like Sara Ramirez to opine on Patti and this interview around the time that AJLT drops.

I can see Sara’s quote or Instagram post now, bitching about the racist undertones of adding a bigoted old white woman to the cast while Che Diaz dies offscreen, flattened by a garbage truck.

And I can imagine Patti’s colorful reply.

And I c

by Anonymousreply 26May 30, 2025 12:42 AM

I am sorry! I hit post on my phone before I finished editing my typos!

by Anonymousreply 27May 30, 2025 12:43 AM

How can anyone defend Patti? She’s a horrifically ugly person inside and out. She has constant grievances and is nasty all the time towards people who do nothing to her. She’s a deeply disturbed individual. That’s not someone we should applaud or be on her team. JFC,

by Anonymousreply 28May 30, 2025 12:45 AM
She's going to be on And Just Like That in the next few weeks

I predict a very long soliloquy about microaggressions, ending with Patti slapping the shit out of Cynthia Nixon.

And really, what more can you ask for?

by Anonymousreply 29May 30, 2025 12:48 AM

LOVE HER

by Anonymousreply 30May 30, 2025 12:48 AM

I have no doubt many of you love her. I can read.

by Anonymousreply 31May 30, 2025 12:50 AM
Has it really been eleven years since Audra hung out with Patti? I could've sworn the two performed together at some benefit concert a few years ago.

That would be fabulous!!! If they'd just performed together 3 years ago, and Audra was like "I haven't seen that old cow in 10 years, so go ask her...'

by Anonymousreply 32May 30, 2025 1:17 AM

R28 You should defend anyone falsely accused of something as vile as racism from a desperate, thirsty, exploitative, mendacious fame whore like Kecia Lewis.

It’s not okay to let Patti fry just because she’s such a miserable cunt the rest of the time. The mere fact you can say anything about someone on social media and it’s just accepted as truth should frighten anyone.

by Anonymousreply 33May 30, 2025 1:19 AM

Hardy HAR, r22!

Kecia would feel right at home in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, huh?

by Anonymousreply 34May 30, 2025 1:33 AM

Audra responded exactly right. She wasn’t going to keep this fire burning from her end. She’s like “I haven’t a clue what Patti is talking about. Ask her!”

Perfection.

by Anonymousreply 35May 30, 2025 1:34 AM

Audra handled it perfectly.

by Anonymousreply 36May 30, 2025 2:18 AM

R15 really? She lost her voice some time ago.

by Anonymousreply 37May 30, 2025 2:21 AM

Lupone’s actual quote when complaining about the noise next door was “Nigga, please. Turn that shit down!”

by Anonymousreply 38May 30, 2025 2:31 AM

The real problem was Lupone’s putting down many colleagues during this interview. Kecia isn’t a Bway veteran because she doesn’t have as many shows. Audra isn’t a friend and a nasty “no comment” on her performance as Rose. Glenn Close is a liar. And on and on and on.

We all know Lupone can be a negative Nelly, but it was all captured in this one interview. She’s obviously has such low self esteem that she needs to put everyone else down to build herself up. It came across as unnecessarily cruel

by Anonymousreply 39May 30, 2025 2:35 AM

R28=Bill Smitrovitch

by Anonymousreply 40May 30, 2025 2:44 AM

I looked at my Google News feed earlier and was delighted to see several items about Audra "breaking her silence" regarding the Patti interview. Celebrities don't respond to things anymore, they break their silence. What silence? It's been three or four days. Soon the headlines will be "Jeopardy Contestant Breaks His Silence Over Gettysburg Address Question".

by Anonymousreply 41May 30, 2025 3:00 AM

Putting aside her cuntitude, is there any validity to Patti's views on Glenn? Asking seriously for anyone in the know. The industry has never given her an Oscar. I've always presumed that was just bad luck, but maybe something more is going on?

by Anonymousreply 42May 30, 2025 3:11 AM
Audra may just have liked the idea that African-American culture historically gets in trouble for being too loud.

What is the basis for this ridiculous statement? I have never heard African-American music specifically be charged as being especially loud, and there are many other types of music -- acid rock, heavy metal, etc. -- that ARE notoriously loud but are not at all associated with Black people. As I've written elsewhere: Does anyone seriously think Patti LuPone would not have complained about the noise if the show playing next door to hers was THE WHO'S TOMMY, which wasn't a Black show by any stretch of the definition?

by Anonymousreply 43May 30, 2025 3:59 AM
Does anyone seriously think Patti LuPone would not have complained about the noise if the show playing next door to hers was THE WHO'S TOMMY, which wasn't a Black show by any stretch of the definition?

Obviously, you have no idea who Patti is or what she does.

by Anonymousreply 44May 30, 2025 4:29 AM

Let's be the Patti-Kecia Feud:

I'm the white gay fauxgressives reflexively (and with great virtue) jumping through all the hoops to agree with anything a self-victimized black performer decrees against white people!

by Anonymousreply 45May 30, 2025 4:46 AM
She likes being abrasive and controversial and saying what she feels. I find it refreshing.

Yes, because so few people are brave enough to express their true feelings these days.

by Anonymousreply 46May 30, 2025 10:46 AM

More people need to express their feelings and call out the bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 47May 30, 2025 10:50 AM

The most telling bit is right at the end when she surveys all the beauty of Central Park in the spring and projects loneliness onto the scene. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 48May 30, 2025 11:28 AM

She’s …. not a good person.

by Anonymousreply 49May 30, 2025 11:54 AM
Does anyone seriously think Patti LuPone would not have complained about the noise if the show playing next door to hers was THE WHO'S TOMMY, which wasn't a Black show by any stretch of the definition?
Obviously, you have no idea who Patti is or what she does.

And I have no idea what the hell you mean by that. Please explain.

P.S. In case my syntax was above your reading level, what I meant is that I have no doubt Patti would have complained about the noise bleed if the show playing next to hers had been, for example, THE WHO'S TOMMY. And since that show can't be viewed as a "Black show" by any stretch of the imagination, the fact that she would have complained about the noise level from that show in the same way she complained about the noise level of HELL'S KITCHEN proves to me, and to anyone with at least half a brain, that her complaint had NOTHING to do with race.

by Anonymousreply 50May 30, 2025 12:01 PM

Agreed, R48. How very sad and unfortunate that Patti Lu has turned into such a bitter, rage-filled person despite her great success in her field and the fact that she has so many fans.

by Anonymousreply 51May 30, 2025 12:07 PM
Agreed, [R48]. How very sad and unfortunate that Patti Lu has turned into such a bitter, rage-filled person despite her great success in her field and the fact that she has so TRANS.

Fixed it for you.

by Anonymousreply 52May 30, 2025 2:22 PM

Is there a joke in there somewhere, R52?

by Anonymousreply 53May 30, 2025 2:26 PM

I keep remembering a lyric from Forbidden Broadway's take on LuPone's Rose: "I'll plough through / and succeed / like a bulldozer picking up speed".

At least half the time she does in 100% on purpose. She's got a schtick, she knows it, she gives an interview and enjoys the fallout. It's quirky but she knows what she's doing.

by Anonymousreply 54May 30, 2025 2:31 PM

Maybe Kecia and Tonya can bring their version of "Roommates" back to the Booth in the Fall. Let's see how that sells. Especially with that damn noise from next door.

by Anonymousreply 55May 30, 2025 2:46 PM

I´d be in the front row with Joan Crawfords knitting needles for that!

by Anonymousreply 56May 30, 2025 2:55 PM

I had no idea Patti had a husband and a child.

by Anonymousreply 57May 30, 2025 2:57 PM

Lucky them.

by Anonymousreply 58May 30, 2025 2:58 PM

Neither does she :-)

(I know, that was REALLY nasty, but hopefully at least somewhat funny.)

by Anonymousreply 59May 30, 2025 3:06 PM

Damnit. I should have named this thread "Patti LuPone drags EVERYTHING, Part 2: Patti Meltdown"

by Anonymousreply 60May 30, 2025 4:23 PM

Over 500 Broadway Artists Release Open Letter Reprimanding Patti LuPone The letter also called the American Theatre Wing and Broadway League to disinvite LuPone from the Tony Awards.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 65May 30, 2025 6:13 PM

CUNNNNNNNNNTS!

by Anonymousreply 66May 30, 2025 6:17 PM

499 nobodies and Courtney Love signed that letter?

by Anonymousreply 67May 30, 2025 6:18 PM

R65 not only that, they want her banned from all public functions until she completes anti bias and racial counseling programs!

by Anonymousreply 68May 30, 2025 6:18 PM

Broadway? BWAAAAH. What a joke.
The letter, which was provided to Playbill, addresses the Broadway League, the American Theatre Wing, and "the greater theatre community." It characterizes LuPone's comments about Lewis and McDonald as "degrading and misogynistic—it is a blatant act of racialized disrespect. It constitutes bullying. It constitutes harassment. It is emblematic of the microaggressions and abuse that people in this industry have endured for far too long, too often without consequence."
The letter also says that LuPone's comments are part of a pattern in the theatre industry, which has "a persistent failure to hold people accountable for violent, disrespectful, or harmful behavior—especially when they are powerful or well-known."
It then calls for the League and the Wing to disinvite LuPone (and anyone else "who use[s] their platform to publicly demean, harass, or disparage fellow artists") from industry events, including the Tony Awards. And it also asks those disinvited individuals, if they want to continue to engage with the community, to complete "comprehensive anti-bias or restorative justice programs." The letter also asks for "clear, transparent policies for addressing harmful behavior."

by Anonymousreply 69May 30, 2025 6:20 PM

I will say, Patti kept talking for two years about being done with Broadway. Seems she got her wish!

by Anonymousreply 70May 30, 2025 6:26 PM

Not quite, R70. This time, it sounds like Broadway is done with HER.

You cannot go after your colleagues in the press like this. She’s been bitching about Glenn Close SINCE THE 1990s! That’s one thing.

This time, she dismissed two women of color (in addition to Glenn, AGAIN), calling Kecia a bitch and dismissing Audra, both personally and professionally.

She’s been campaigning HARD for Nicole to win the Tony and now we know why, in part.

I think she’s also scared to death that someone else will win a Tony for playing Rose. She’s so profoundly insecure — she only goes after other women. And only those which leave her feeling threatened.

Hello and goodbye! She’s just unemployed herself.

by Anonymousreply 71May 30, 2025 7:18 PM

Oh boy. She’s DONE.

Patti is FUCKED

by Anonymousreply 75May 30, 2025 8:23 PM

I thought I was a cunt!!!

by Anonymousreply 76May 30, 2025 8:27 PM

R75 - can you just sign anyone's name though? How the fuck is Courtney Love on that list?

Meh - sounds like some outraged looking-for-an-insult goodie two shoes made that letter.

Patti will be fine. It may give her career a boost. She's been shady for years. It's her thing.

by Anonymousreply 77May 30, 2025 8:32 PM

I think it's final, Patti should not run again.

by Anonymousreply 78May 30, 2025 8:33 PM

Read the room R77.

by Anonymousreply 79May 30, 2025 8:34 PM

I did see Audra on with Gail and Gail asked about Patti like she was talking about a breast tumor and Audra played it down with the you have to ask Patti hand-off.

by Anonymousreply 80May 30, 2025 8:37 PM

Interesting to read the Playbill article to see how the outrage has shifted from the original grievance between Lewis and Patti (where it’s by no means clearcut that Lewis was on firm ground racializing the situation) to Patti insulting Audra, who is certainly a big enough star herself to handle the situation.

Maybe because I’m old, I see this as a tempest in a teapot and the idea of this pretentious letter is simply ridiculous. Nor have I ever heard of the majority of the signees —certainly a lot of well known Broadway names haven’t signed it yet.

And the dumbest thing the Tony hierarchy could do would be to disinvite Patti — on the contrary they should do everything in their power to get her to show up, begowned and bedizened. The ratings for the Tonys have been on life support for years and if people thought there’d be a hair-pulling match on the red carpet or a chorus of boos from the audience a la “Dangerous Liaisons,” the ratings would double.

At last, Broadway is fun again with everyone taking sides and stabbing backs just like the good old days!

by Anonymousreply 81May 30, 2025 8:40 PM

How would today's Broadway community ever survive Ethel Merman?!

by Anonymousreply 82May 30, 2025 8:44 PM

R78 Patti should have campaigned in the dance belt! It was the first of many mistakes with her campaign!

by Anonymousreply 83May 30, 2025 8:46 PM

and

"Kecia Lewis is a bitch" in response to Kecia Lewis being a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 86May 30, 2025 9:19 PM

So, she should have called Kecia Lewis a cunt?

by Anonymousreply 87May 30, 2025 9:22 PM

If the tampon fits...

by Anonymousreply 88May 30, 2025 9:29 PM

I love it when celebrities talk shit about each other, and it doesn't happen often enough. Most of them can't stand each other.

by Anonymousreply 89May 30, 2025 9:31 PM

Oh, she did call her that. The doors were closed.

by Anonymousreply 90May 30, 2025 9:33 PM

She's batshit, and entertaining as hell.

by Anonymousreply 91May 30, 2025 9:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 92May 30, 2025 9:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 93May 30, 2025 9:52 PM

R93 - EXACTLY! I didn't give a fig about Britney until she went koo-koo. Same with Whitney.

Nothing wrong with an elderly pot-stirrer. Patti's not a beautiful woman and has had to fight for every role because of it.

Nobody is being hurt by her - if you can take a little criticism, then performance isn't for you.

by Anonymousreply 94May 30, 2025 10:08 PM

r94 One person who can't take a little criticism is Patti

by Anonymousreply 98May 30, 2025 10:32 PM

She did not "bring up Lupone"--that's ridiculous. She simply liked Lewis's post that said a lot of things. She could have been responding to any number of things in that post.

She was not the one who did anything offensive-- simply liking a post is not an offensive act unless sou (like Patti) are berserkly oversensitive. Otherwise McDonald has stayed out of this.

r105 Except those aren't the reasons for the letter.

by Anonymousreply 107May 31, 2025 12:26 AM

No, they've created so much to blather about, but the things I wrote were the start of it.

Nobody is forced to like any performer or performance they don't appreciate EVEN IF THE PERSON IS BLACK! It's just not very important, even when it's AUDRA!

Actors can be so dumb. The signing of the letter is 100% an exercise in virtue signaling bordering on artistic fascism.

by Anonymousreply 108May 31, 2025 12:33 AM

r108 You call actors dumb and yet you apparently don't even understand what the letter is about.

It's specifically about Patti's comments in the interview. You want to try and pretend it's about something else because you know the point made in the letter is perfectly rational.

by Anonymousreply 109May 31, 2025 12:36 AM

R109, but the letter is asking that Patti be uninvited to the Tony Awards because of her comments, which sure seems like censorhip to me.

by Anonymousreply 110May 31, 2025 12:44 AM

“ Look at the Free Speech far-left”

I can’t because there isn’t such a thing. Also, there’s no Free Speech far-right for what it’s worth.

by Anonymousreply 111May 31, 2025 12:46 AM

I am confused about something. In the playbill article, it says Kecia was responding to a video that made the rounds of social media with Patti calling Hells Kitchen “.loud,” I don’t recall reading before about a video, just that Patti had stepped in and contacted the theater about the issue. Did I miss a development in this tortured story?

by Anonymousreply 112May 31, 2025 12:59 AM

r110 It's not censorship at all. No one is preventing her from saying what she wants. Attending an awards show is not a right. The fact that your words may result in consequences should not be a new lesson for any adult.

by Anonymousreply 113May 31, 2025 12:59 AM

r112 Yes. Someone recorded a video of Patti signing autographs, and one person asked her to sign a Hells Kitchen Playbill, and Patti said she wouldn't sign it because Hells Kitchen was "too loud".

People in this thread have skipped over this part in their recaps. She was right to refuse to sign the Playbill, as it's generally accepted as bad form for an actor to sign a Playbill for a show they aren't in. But her giving the "too loud" comment as her reasoning was what caused a lot of the issues and was specifically cited by Lewis.

by Anonymousreply 114May 31, 2025 1:03 AM

First few seconds of this TikTok has the video, she actually says "they're too loud"

Fucking christ- What the fuck was all that caterwauling from those Hells Kitchen clips- that one chick sounded like a tomcat in heat being crushed by a safe!

by Anonymousreply 116May 31, 2025 1:12 AM

R114 Thank you. I still think the resulting outrage is overblown. She was obviously referring to that one show. Yes, she probably should have skipped the New Yorker interview.

The letter, which was written on behalf of the Broadway Theater Community on Friday, May 30, chastised LuPone, 76, for the flippant remarks she made about her fellow stage icons in an interview with The New Yorker published on Monday.

Other than Courtney Love's, not a single name on that letter was recognizable to me.

And Courtney Love is hardly a name on Broadway to be reckoned with.

by Anonymousreply 119May 31, 2025 1:29 AM

Did Cynthia Erivo sign the letter? This topic sounds right up her alley.

by Anonymousreply 120May 31, 2025 1:31 AM
“We will no longer tolerate violence – verbal, emotional, or physical – against artists within our own community,” the letter said.

VIOLENCE!!!

Not responding when asked what she thought of Audra's performance is TRUE VIOLENCE!!!

by Anonymousreply 121May 31, 2025 1:33 AM

The TONY producers must be begging Cynthia Orivo not to get involved. BEGGING HER!

by Anonymousreply 122May 31, 2025 1:42 AM

But I'm sure they ARE TOO LOUD!

All musicals are deafening these days...and who cares! It is still a massive leap from "too loud" to racism and microaggressions and a letter signed by 500 loons!

Ms Erivo is currently staying mum as she mounts her Oscar campaign where she will need to fend off a gaggle of heavyweight white bitches like Buckley, Lawrence, Roberts, Stone and that bitch from Sentimental Value stealing her thunder.

Patti Lupone is a [italic]strong womyn.
r51 How very sad and unfortunate that Patti Lu has turned into such a bitter, rage-filled person despite her great success in her field and the fact that she has so many fans.

"Rage filled" to me brings to mind someone trashing dressing rooms, etc. Patti sounds brusque - but I don't hear rage, really. Even if she's yelling at pedestrians through a taxicab window with a bullhorn, there's an air of comedy to that.

She's jaded, certainly. Outsoken. But she's a 76-year-old New Yorker!

by Anonymousreply 129May 31, 2025 2:37 AM

R129, are you new? LuPone's memoir includes a vivid account of her trashing her SUNSET BOULEVARD dressing room (and/or her BAKER'S WIFE one; it's been a while).

One doesn't stew over half-century-old grudges (Kevin Kline! EVITA!) without rage.

by Anonymousreply 130May 31, 2025 2:44 AM

Patti is a great singer, decent actress but an awful person, and eventually the later has overcome the former. Why the New Yorker chose to print an article where she TRASHES Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, Audra McDonald, some hockey player (whom they called for comment? -- wtf ) and Kecia Lewis (who I saw decades ago go on for Jennifer in DREAMGIRLS) is my question. There was no point to the article other than "here's some time with a nasty person." There was so insight, no discussion with the son or husband. No discussion with Mia Farrow, Jack O'Brien or anyone who has directed her since Hal fucking Prince. What was the point?

by Anonymousreply 131May 31, 2025 3:46 AM

Hmmmm.....now what could the point be of a media outlet posting/printing a gossipy, bitchy, controversial juicy interview with a celebrity who trash talks other celebrities?

THINKING....THINKING....C'MON BRAIN, WORK!!!! WHAT COULD THE REASON BE!!!!???!!!??WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT!?!??!?

by Anonymousreply 132May 31, 2025 9:25 AM

And just like that, a breathless, sanctimonious letter filled with the worst sort of virtue signaling cant has made Patti sympathetic again.

by Anonymousreply 133May 31, 2025 10:20 AM

You can't buy and she must be sent to re-education camp before she can come to our parties.

I thought this was ebbing.

by Anonymousreply 135May 31, 2025 1:12 PM

If the Tony producers were smart, they would invite her to attend the awards. The viewership would definitely go up, as viewers would tune in to see if there will be punches thrown.

by Anonymousreply 136May 31, 2025 1:28 PM

In this case what does "disinvite" from the Tony Award mean, since Patti is not a nominee?

by Anonymousreply 137May 31, 2025 1:52 PM

If the Tony producers were smart, they'd invite her to host the awards... with Cynthia Erivo.

And give her a lotta drinks before hand.

by Anonymousreply 138May 31, 2025 1:57 PM

LuPone is a Tony voter, R137. She's made a point of broadcasting her raves about SUNSET BOULEVARD and the wildly overrated OPERATION MINCEMEAT.

by Anonymousreply 139May 31, 2025 2:31 PM

LuPone is a Tony voter! Honestly, that's news to me, and I think it's pretty outrageous. From how many categories should she recuse herself from voting due to conflict of interest?

by Anonymousreply 140May 31, 2025 2:39 PM

R137: Someone in the theater gossip thread insists that LuPone was asked to be a presenter at the Tonys this year, and that the offer has since been quietly rescinded.

by Anonymousreply 141May 31, 2025 2:48 PM

Patti would make a big deal of that, if true, r141.

by Anonymousreply 142May 31, 2025 2:55 PM
Audra responded exactly right. She wasn’t going to keep this fire burning from her end. She’s like “I haven’t a clue what Patti is talking about. Ask her!” Perfection.

Not perfection, but well-orchestrated from her PR team. Do you really think she's going to say something to jeopardize her chances of winning her seventh Tony ? You really think she's going to say something else which may prove controversial to Tony voters, and lose their votes ???

by Anonymousreply 143May 31, 2025 2:55 PM

No, R143, I'm sure the other poster did NOT think Audra would have done or said anything like that. Do you have a problem with reading comprehension?

Audra never would have dragged Audra!

by Anonymousreply 145May 31, 2025 3:24 PM

Voters are allowed preferences.

by Anonymousreply 146May 31, 2025 3:25 PM

I think I understand conflict of interest very well, R146. I assume that, despite the fact she quite Equity, Patti LuPone was eligible for a Tony nomination in the two-hander play THE ROOMMATE. She didn't receive a nomination, but her co-star did. If you don't think that places Patti in a conflict-of-interest situation, can you please explain?

by Anonymousreply 147May 31, 2025 3:30 PM

Patti, oh, Patti.

by Anonymousreply 148May 31, 2025 3:37 PM
Audra responded and the clip is on instagram. She basically says she hasn’t seen Patti in over 10 years, has no idea what rift happened, and told Gayle King to ask Patti!

by Anonymousreply 149May 31, 2025 3:41 PM

Patti LuPone is acting like Donald Trump -- I can say whatever I want, to whomever I want, however false, nasty or mean, and that's my right because I am ME!!!! We're all done with these types, and I'm loving that people are standing up and saying you can't PUBLICLY call an esteemed Tony Winning actress "A Bitch" and not have a reaction and consequences. She is behaving more nastily that all the people she claims have harmed her - Kevin Kline, ALW, a hockey player, Audra. She's a narcissist and she won't go away unless the press stops falling for it. Same with Trump.

by Anonymousreply 150May 31, 2025 3:42 PM

I think she’s tremendous

by Anonymousreply 151May 31, 2025 3:45 PM

Audra is waging a news cycle war against Patti. There is no way that media can keep this up over weeks.

A true feud requires pushback. Audra is going to win the Tony and hopefully chide the LOCAL media for false reporting.

The best revenge is winning.

by Anonymousreply 152May 31, 2025 3:49 PM

I had the pleasure of being thrown out of Pattis' birthday party (by her) in NYC c. 1982. It was at the Underground and Ms. LuPone was everything at the time with Evita.

She was insane.

by Anonymousreply 153May 31, 2025 3:49 PM

It was a huge mistake for Patti to call Kecia a bitch, BUT we should always remember that this conflict started with a totally unjustified charge of racism made by Kecia against Patti.

If Patti had an ounce of control over her emotions, which she clearly does not, she could have very calmly explained to the New Yorker interviewer why the racism charge was totally unfounded, and I personally think it would have been fine for her state that she would like Kecia to apologize for her rash remarks....but in descending even below Kecia's level by calling her a "bitch," Patti effectively turned the tables of sympathy against herself.

by Anonymousreply 154May 31, 2025 3:51 PM

R147, you truly don’t understand conflict of interest. At all.

by Anonymousreply 155May 31, 2025 3:55 PM

Sorry, Patti haters, but this entire ridiculously overblown idiocy was brought about by Kecia making it a racial issue where it didn't exist, yet, she is being made out to be the victim. The irony is that the " letter" decries bullying and even states:
This is not about differing opinions. It is about public actions that demean, intimidate, or perpetuate violence against fellow artists. It is about the normalization of harm in an industry that too often protects prestige over people."

And yet, isn't that exactly what the signers are attempting to do to her? And, is there anyone in the Broadway community with more " prestige" than Audra McDonald? Does she need " protecting"?

by Anonymousreply 156May 31, 2025 4:04 PM

Then explain it to me as if I were a child, R155. I have explained why there IS a conflict of interest, but you have given no explanation for why you think otherwise, so until you do, it's going to remain obvious to all that I'm the one who understands and you do not.

by Anonymousreply 157May 31, 2025 4:05 PM

To be fair, Patti said: "Don’t call yourself a vet, bitch.” (like in a drag-queen-y way)

She did not say Kecia Lewis is a race-baiting bitch, which she would have had every right to say.

by Anonymousreply 158May 31, 2025 4:12 PM

So glad that the racist Black Theatre Mafia has decided free speech isn't acceptable when it comes to noting that sometimes people are cunts, while attempting to silence and "disappear" someone who did not behave in a racist way.

I'm biracial. I joined the NAACP in 1984. My family had to move from state to state because of miscegenation laws, until they started passing. But I know the hatred in the confused values and always-defensive posturing that is the usual black bullshit, just like I know it from MAGA.

LuPone said nothing to merit this disgraceful sign of racism and needlessly circling the wagons.

Where is the outrage about substantial issues theatre and the nation are facing? Because 76-year-old Patti who can't find work to please her ain't one of them. Shitheads.

I'm not sure what the problem is with Lupone calling her a 'bitch' ?

As been said on 'The View' many times over the past 28 seasons - mostly by Joy Behar and Whoopi in serious conversations - 'It is OKAY for one woman to call refer to another woman a 'bitch'. Perfectly acceptable. It is not OKAY for a man to call or refer to a woman a 'Bitch'. Behar and the other hosts all have agreed that 'Women own the word 'Bitch' and can toss it around and refer to each other as 'a bitch' however they like'. (And yes, Joy frequently uses that word in conversation on the show). I remember last season when they had a whole conversation about lyrics in music these days and some of them said it was not OK for male rappers to call women 'bitches' in their songs, but it was OK if a female rapper did it (I think Whoopi was the odd one out and said it was OK for male rappers, too, since it was part of their culture).

So why is it wrong now with Lupone using it to refer to another woman ?

by Anonymousreply 163May 31, 2025 4:44 PM

If LuPone’s “too loud” comment was about Gareth Owen’s notoriously overpowering sound mixing--which has drawn complaints on shows like (MJ and & Juliet--and if even Alicia Keys reportedly raised similar concerns, isn’t it more reasonable to view this as a technical critique rather than a microaggression?

As others here have said, LuPone has criticized Glenn and other white performers more harshly, yet only her predictable and impulsive slights against two black performers provoked a petition to ban her from the Tonys--slights which had nothing whatsoever to do with race

Impact matters to some degree, but so do context, intent, and proportionality. Instead of fostering dialogue, Lewis posted a public TikTok shaming--a platform that rewards outrage, not nuance.

Whatever happened to the assumption of good faith or the willingness to consider ambiguity?

by Anonymousreply 164May 31, 2025 5:03 PM

r163 Christ, this actually needs to be explained to you? Just because Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg have that opinion it doesn't mean everyone else has to.

by Anonymousreply 165May 31, 2025 5:04 PM

R165 If these women have been saying this on national TV for 28 years, and have gotten zero blowback from any other female over this, then I would guess many women agree with them. So the question remains - why was it so wrong for Lupone to use the word ?

by Anonymousreply 166May 31, 2025 5:10 PM

It's largely because these bougie activists view EVERYTHING through the filter of systemic power structures--so it's not one woman calling another a bitch; it's an older white woman calling a young black woman a bitch, which, apparently, is qualitatively distinct.

by Anonymousreply 167May 31, 2025 5:11 PM

*younger black woman

by Anonymousreply 169May 31, 2025 5:13 PM

The letter is awful, and comes across as ridiculous posturing.

But that does not absolve Patti of being an asshole. She went too far this time in the New Yorker profile--she's not going to come back easily from this, even if the days of complete cancellation the letter seems to evoke are long past.

by Anonymousreply 170May 31, 2025 5:15 PM

A large swathe of both Broadway and Black TikTok/X could really use a group basic course in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

The instinct to leap from “someone said something I didn’t like” to “this is a racialized attack on both my personhood and culture” is textbook cognitive distortion: personalization, mindreading and black-and-white thinking.

R167 Thanks for your answer. It addresses the question I had, and you gave a reasonable, thoughtful answer. (Unlike R165, who is continuously fighting an uphill battle with comprehension and communication. )

by Anonymousreply 174May 31, 2025 5:39 PM

I think this has gone a little too far now.

First of all, it's been turned into some kind of race thing. It's not; Kecia did not call Patti a racist. She mentioned racial microaggressions, but that's not calling Patti a racist. Secondly, I don't believe for one second that Patti is racist; she hates everybody equally. She probably should not have been so melodramatic in the Audra stuff, but even that wasn't race-based. Audra is beloved in the industry, I think most people are just upset that the wicked stepmother attacked Cinderella, more so than anything about race.

This has turned into let's pay Patti back for all the shit she's flung over the years and we're going to hide behind race stuff to give us cover.

Audra is playing this just right. I'm not sure if Kecia has made a statement, but I'm not even sure she expected all this.

by Anonymousreply 175May 31, 2025 5:44 PM
Audra is playing this just right. I'm not sure if Kecia has made a statement, but I'm not even sure she expected all this.

I’m sure that Kecia is workshopping a response as we speak.

by Anonymousreply 176May 31, 2025 5:50 PM
Kecia did not call Patti a racist. She mentioned racial microaggressions, but that's not calling Patti a racist.

It's not exactly the same, but it's close enough. To suggest that there's an element of racism in a person's criticism of someone else, when that's completely untrue, is a vile thing to do.

As I've written elsewhere, I was amazed that Patti made no public response to Kecia's remarks at the time they occurred, but I figured Patti's handlers had begged her not to do so, and that she listened to them for once. Interesting that she chose this moment to finally speak up in that interview, and it's too bad for her that she did it in such a typically childish and, yes, bitchy way.

by Anonymousreply 177May 31, 2025 5:50 PM

It's actually not widely considered okay for women to call each other bitches in anger, despite the claims of those infallible oracles Whoopi and Joy.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, Patti was using "bitch" in the gay slang sense (since she was dishing the dirt and being sassy with a gay male reporter) rather than in a strictly angry sense, but that isn't going to be clear to most people who read the interview. It was a real tactical error--she should have known better than to say that. It's what the headlines have dwelled on in covering this scandal much more than the original noise complaint (which i think most people think was understandable on Patti's part) or for not praising Audra's performance.

by Anonymousreply 178May 31, 2025 5:52 PM
Sorry, Patti haters, but this entire ridiculously overblown idiocy was brought about by Kecia making it a racial issue where it didn't exist....

And NO ONE was addressing Kecia Lewis! No one at all! She just had to jump in and start a character assassination to make it about herself! That's called being a bitch!

by Anonymousreply 179May 31, 2025 5:57 PM

I assume the reason that Patti didn't address Kecia's comments via Insta when they occurred was because Patti was still preforming in The Roommate and the show's PR team didn't allow it or strongly she suggested/pleaded she not reply. By the time of the New Yorker interview she was a free agent.

Saddest thing about Patti to me is she is a woman in an apparently long and happy marriage with a home and and a grown son for whom she can be very proud. Wouldn't that be enough to give her a sense of priorities and balance? She behaves like a lonely old spinster.

by Anonymousreply 180May 31, 2025 5:58 PM
She mentioned racial microaggressions, but that's not calling Patti a racist.

Yes, dear. It is exactly that.
This has turned into let's pay Patti back for all the shit she's flung over the years and we're going to hide behind race stuff to give us cover.

Which doesn't deal with the real problems. About how many stars, whether in the theater, movie or tv, can often be tyrants to people "beneath them" because of their status in their respective industry. About how those power dynamics often create toxic, hostile work environments. If the issue is Patti's behavior throughout the years, then let that stand and deal with it. To hide it being accusations of racism that really don't stand up is making a mockery true racism and a mockery of Lupone's abuse to others throughout the decades.

It's saying something that many industry bigwigs aren't signing that letter. I don't know whether they're anticipating what you've described and waiting it out because they've been guilty of similar "diva" behavior or what.
Audra is playing this just right.

It's easy to do when no one has asked her why she liked Lewis Instagram post or had she witnessed any behavior from Lupone when they had worked together throughout the years.

It's clear she wants to win a Tony, but if there are real issues that need to be addressed, then it might be time for someone to actually speak out and say them. Doesn't have to be Audra, but it should be someone. But Audra certainly has enough respect in the industry to do so. She wouldn't have lost any of it had she said something.

by Anonymousreply 185May 31, 2025 6:07 PM

If the producers of the Tonys were smart, they would keep Lupone away from the ceremony and have Christine Pedi fill in for her, in full 'Patti drag'.

by Anonymousreply 198May 31, 2025 8:32 PM

For as long as I have worked in the theatre, I have spoken my mind and never apologized. That is changing today.

I am deeply sorry for the words I used during The New Yorker interview, particularly about Kecia Lewis, which were demeaning and disrespectful. I regret my flippant and emotional responses during this interview, which were inappropriate, and I am devastated that my behavior has offended others and has run counter to what we hold dear in this community. I hope to have the chance to speak to Audra and Kecia personally to offer my sincere apologies.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything that was written in the open letter shared yesterday. From middle school drama clubs to professional stages, theatre has always been about lifting each other up and welcoming those who feel they don't belong anywhere else. I made a mistake, I take full responsibility for it, and I am committed to making this right. Our entire theatre community deserves better.

Patti LuPone

by Anonymousreply 199May 31, 2025 8:41 PM

But I standby everything I said about Glenn, Madonna, and those kids on the Zamboni.

by Anonymousreply 200May 31, 2025 8:43 PM

Now can this be over?

by Anonymousreply 201May 31, 2025 8:44 PM

It would also be nice if Kecia publicly apologized for taking to social media and baselessly accusing Patti of racism, but we know that will probably never happen.

by Anonymousreply 202May 31, 2025 8:46 PM

That's not real.

by Anonymousreply 203May 31, 2025 8:48 PM
I hope to have the chance to speak to Audra and Kecia personally to offer my sincere apologies.

That dream is not going to come true, baby! You're through!

by Anonymousreply 204May 31, 2025 8:51 PM

If Audra is so supportive of Kecia's letter, then put Kecia as the replacement in Gypsy. Let's see how well those tickets sell since she's apparently on the same level as Audra and Patti.

Only logical solution now. Support your girl Audra. Ball is in your court now.

by Anonymousreply 205May 31, 2025 8:53 PM

I am sorry she caved. It was inappropriate but that's Patti LuPone. The whole thing wouldn't have gotten out of control if it wasn't for stupid social media. The internet is not making us better, just angrier.

by Anonymousreply 206May 31, 2025 9:04 PM

R201 perfect apology. Glad to see it from her.

by Anonymousreply 207May 31, 2025 9:05 PM

I’m waiting for mine, now.

by Anonymousreply 208May 31, 2025 9:13 PM

But you're used to waiting, aren't you, dear?

by Anonymousreply 209May 31, 2025 9:15 PM

This apology …. I’m getting HARD!!

💦

Where should I PayPal you?

by Anonymousreply 210May 31, 2025 9:32 PM
Because this isn't about Audra, Patti made this a thing.

No, Kecia made this a 'thing' back in November with her social media post. Patti made sure she kept it from 'being a thing' by working behind the scenes, and taking care of it quietly, out of the public eye.

by Anonymousreply 211May 31, 2025 9:50 PM

What the fuck kind of name is "Kecia"??

by Anonymousreply 212May 31, 2025 9:55 PM

She should have stopped after the first paragraph. That would have been sufficient.

She didn't need to even acknowledge the existence of the letter, let alone be mamby-pamby "I wholeheartedly believe in everything" about it.

by Anonymousreply 213May 31, 2025 11:12 PM
Well if Patti's shit is being brought out into the open, why isn't that?

Guess!

Some people must NEVER BE QUESTIONED, or we can get 500 signatures on a screed against you too!

by Anonymousreply 214May 31, 2025 11:24 PM
Now can this be over?

NO!

It must NEVER be over!

by Anonymousreply 215May 31, 2025 11:26 PM

hahahahahahahahahahaha

by Anonymousreply 216May 31, 2025 11:28 PM
It would also be nice if Kecia publicly apologized for taking to social media and baselessly accusing Patti of racism, but we know that will probably never happen.

"Probably" is doing A LOT of work!

by Anonymousreply 217May 31, 2025 11:29 PM

From The Independent FB page: You’d think with all this brouhaha, we were witnessing the Second Coming, or at the very least, a well-stocked delicatessen having a fire sale on pastrami. But no, it’s merely the grand dame of Broadway, the one and only Patti LuPone, issuing a mea culpa that, frankly, has the emotional heft of a damp dishrag and the sincerity of a politician’s promise to actually do something. One reads, with a certain cerebral discomfiture, this report from The Independent – a publication, I might add, that typically concerns itself with the existential angst of the common housefly or the price of artisanal sourdough. And here they are, breathlessly recounting the latest fracas in the hallowed, nay, hollowed halls of theatricality. LuPone, it appears, has been caught in flagrante delicto – not with a chorus boy, mind you, that would be far too interesting – but with her very own vociferations. She’s been slinging words like so many rogue sequins at a particularly ill-attended drag show, and now, mirabile dictu, she’s had to unfurl the white flag of contrition. Five hundred Broadway professionals! Good heavens, one imagines a phalanx of Thesbians, all in various states of dramatic pique, penning a letter with the collective fury of a thousand understudies who’ve just had their coffee spilt. Did they use scented stationery? Were there glitter pens involved? These are the salient questions, people, not whether someone called someone else a "flibbertigibbet" or a "nincompoop" – terms, I might add, that could easily be applied to half the denizens of Parliament, and indeed, often are. And now, the apology. Oh, the apology! It’s less a genuine act of penance and more a theatrical flourish, like a particularly bad mime stuck in an invisible box of profound regret. One envisions LuPone, in a boudoir of exquisite déshabillé, perhaps contemplating the subtle nuances of a particularly challenging soufflé, when she is suddenly struck by the horrifying realization that she has, in fact, been less than collegial. It’s a genuine travesty of justice, a veritable cul-de-sac of decorum, that one must now apologize for the sheer, unadulterated joy of telling someone they’re about as useful as a chocolate teapot in a hurricane. It reminds one, rather acutely, of that time Marjorie from Little Britain decided to take up competitive eating, only to find her digestive system was more attuned to the delicate effusions of a solitary digestive biscuit. Or perhaps that chap from Seinfeld, who once spent an entire episode agonizing over the correct ratio of chunky to creamy peanut butter. This, my dear friends, is the theatrical equivalent: a tempest in a very shallow teacup, brewed with the bitter dregs of bruised egos and the stale crumbs of wounded 'pride'. So, let us raise a glass – preferably something cheap and fizzy, because frankly, this whole affair doesn't warrant anything vintage – to Patti LuPone, the undisputed champion of the “Oops, did I say that out loud?” school of etiquette. May her future utterances be as exquisitely un-demeaning as a particularly fluffy kitten, and may the collective Broadway profession find something truly significant to complain about, like, say, the exorbitant price of a pre-theatre gin and tonic. Because, let’s be honest, that’s a far greater tragedy than a few choice words from a woman who probably just needs a good lie-down and a decent cup of Darjeeling.

by Anonymousreply 218May 31, 2025 11:32 PM

Fuck. tldr?

by Anonymousreply 219May 31, 2025 11:40 PM

r219: Right?

I have to say I bow before the queen who wrote and posted that.

by Anonymousreply 220May 31, 2025 11:44 PM

That was some very florid prose.

by Anonymousreply 221May 31, 2025 11:47 PM

She should have said: "I regret my choice of words in calling Kecia a bitch. I meant to say cunt."

by Anonymousreply 222May 31, 2025 11:54 PM

Capitulation to radical free-speech killers is wrong, no matter if the faux victims are black, orange, or shit brown.

by Anonymousreply 223June 1, 2025 12:18 AM
I'm biracial.

So, in other words, you're irrelevant R161.
But I know the hatred in the confused values and always-defensive posturing that is the usual black bullshit

R161 You don't know shit about anything, you ugly half-breed motherfucker. I'm sick of fence-sitting biracials thinking they can speak for full black people when, most of the time, they're confused about their own identities. If you truly are biracial, you most likely have a white mother, which makes you even more clueless about race relations concerning the black side of the family. Go sit on spiked fence, you dumb whore, or maybe pick up a book and actually read it. You sound so dumb and uneducated.

by Anonymousreply 224June 1, 2025 12:38 AM

Patti should send a big fat chocolate pie to each of the racist cunts signing that idiotic petition.

by Anonymousreply 225June 1, 2025 12:50 AM

I’m sorry, Miss LuPone. What an awful thing to do to a great star like you,

by Anonymousreply 226June 1, 2025 12:54 AM

R224 proves the point and, like most of the ilk, is too stupid to see it.

Once again, "me am so angry" ain't getting you "relevant" racist haters anywhere. Keep dragging those knuckles, you familiar troll.

by Anonymousreply 227June 1, 2025 12:54 AM

This past week has GOT to become the next FORBIDDEN BROADWAY - a full 90 minutes on stage of this. I mean, it already plays out like something out of FB, they don't have to do much to it.

I can see it now...it opens with Patti's confrontation with the stage manager next door....'Black musicals are notoriously too louD. You gotta do something!

by Anonymousreply 228June 1, 2025 1:25 AM

R227 Keep your head in the sand, bitch. You still know nothing about anything Black or African American and have proven nothing but the fact that you're a self-hating stereotype. You type ugly. You type undesirable. You type like someone who is in desperate, desperate need for validation. All the traits of an ugly son of a bitch. You can save your brain by picking up a book at anytime.

by Anonymousreply 229June 1, 2025 1:50 AM

Wow, lots of comments seems to be so racist that Patti must have written them

by Anonymousreply 230June 1, 2025 1:58 AM

Patti LuPone: even when she's not on Broadway she's the headliner.

by Anonymousreply 231June 1, 2025 1:59 AM
I assume the reason that Patti didn't address Kecia's comments via Insta when they occurred was because Patti was still preforming in The Roommate and the show's PR team didn't allow it or strongly she suggested/pleaded she not reply. By the time of the New Yorker interview she was a free agent.

I'm sure you're right about that, although it has never seemed that Patti ever hesitated to speak her mind for similar reasons in the past.

by Anonymousreply 232June 1, 2025 1:59 AM

Did Patti actually think she was going to be nominated for The Roommate anyway? All the buzz was for Mia and I didn’t see one person predicting Patti to snag a spot.

by Anonymousreply 233June 1, 2025 2:00 AM

This was all about Patti calling colleagues bitches and claiming Kecia wasn’t a veteran.

The racial stuff happened long ago and we’ve forgotten about it.

Patti just reveals she’s a narcissist and nasty person

by Anonymousreply 234June 1, 2025 2:04 AM

Half of this thread is one racist guy talking to himself.

by Anonymousreply 235June 1, 2025 2:05 AM

If Patti were a man her unbridled outspokenness would be admired.

But because she’s a woman, she has to apologize like a good little maternal peacemaker.

by Anonymousreply 236June 1, 2025 3:03 AM

Examples, please, R236? I'm racking my brain to come up with a male celebrity other than Donald Trump of whom that could be said.

by Anonymousreply 237June 1, 2025 3:11 AM

Why couldn't Patti be a Tony voter even if she was in a show that was eligible and has received a nomination?

Oscar and Emmy voters can all vote for themselves.

by Anonymousreply 238June 1, 2025 3:14 AM
If Patti were a man her unbridled outspokenness would be admired.

This is the same predictable argument used by such other bitches as Lea Michele, but it's total bullshit. I can only speak for myself, but I know for certain that if any man had been as vindictive and defensive and incredibly nasty at Patti has behaved towards so many people over the decades, I would certainly not "admire" that man. Interesting that, very special cases like Scott Rudin aside, I can't think of a single man who has been as "outspoken" (i.e., bitchy) as Patty has been through the years -- maybe because, quite the opposite of what you say, R236, many people find such behavior MORE acceptable from women than from men. And some women, including both LuPone and Michele, take advantage of that.

by Anonymousreply 239June 1, 2025 3:15 AM

But, the reality is, very few STRAIGHT men are ever that candid. If a male star gets "frank" and spills some tea or gets bitchy about shit, it's pretty much always a homo.

Straight men HAVE most of the power...they don't need to vent. They just make some phone calls and if they're high enough on the ladder, they get their way if they run into a problem.

by Anonymousreply 240June 1, 2025 3:21 AM

If narcissism and nastiness were crimes in the American theater, most of Broadway could fill the hours between auditions composing letters to the manager.

Vogue: How Lupone Came Under Fire

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 242June 1, 2025 12:12 PM

Vogue is surprisingly even handed in that article. This is so true (my italics):

"LuPone is the darling of Broadway, her standout turns as Eva Perón in Evita and Rose in Gypsy paving the way for an illustrious career onstage [italics] and near-constant run-ins with her stage-sharers."[/italics]

by Anonymousreply 243June 1, 2025 12:26 PM

How did I fuck up that formatting?

by Anonymousreply 244June 1, 2025 12:27 PM

LuPone's GYPSY was recent enough that I wouldn't say it "paved the way" for anything. That road had already been paved and very well trod.

by Anonymousreply 245June 1, 2025 12:37 PM

If she’s done with Broadway, she could always do Olive Garden commercials.

by Anonymousreply 246June 1, 2025 12:42 PM

The Independent was correct, in this instance the apology only added to the gossip. It's just gossip, not a genuine scandal.

by Anonymousreply 247June 1, 2025 12:45 PM

You know Patti has some cousin or relative screaming into their pillow somewhere right now, "NOW THE CUNT APOLOGIZES??? NOW????"

by Anonymousreply 248June 1, 2025 12:53 PM
Patti LuPone drags EVERYTHING, Part 2: You’ll Think It Strange When She Tries To Explain How She Feels

Miami has so much appeal? A great place to get a seafood meal?

by Anonymousreply 249June 1, 2025 1:40 PM

Well, now that Patti has apologized, I guess this thread is pretty much dead. Hell has officially frozen over.

by Anonymousreply 250June 1, 2025 1:53 PM

Only until she loses it again.

God bless her.

by Anonymousreply 251June 1, 2025 2:01 PM

You just know Patti's going to hit the talk show circuit to promote And Just Like That.

Fireworks.

by Anonymousreply 252June 1, 2025 2:22 PM

Has Lupone ever gotten this much media attention in her career, as she has this past week ? Not even the firestorm that was her dismissal from Sunset Blvd 32 years ago generated this much coverage (albeit, there was no internet media).

by Anonymousreply 253June 1, 2025 2:54 PM

To all you homosexuals who voted for Ms. Lupone, I extend to you my sincerest gratitude.

by Anonymousreply 254June 1, 2025 4:05 PM

Talk about charged language: microaggressions and emotional violence!!!

by Anonymousreply 255June 1, 2025 7:42 PM

R234 wants us to think that race wasn't at the bottom of the insane pushback to LuPone's comments, which were measured compared to her capacity for straight talk.

This was ALL about race. Never underestimate the singular focus of black show cunts on getting back at people who dared to call them out for their disgraceful, self-serving victimhood.

R234's merely an apologist for offensive racism among non-whites and their benighted supporters against someone who happens to be white and who isn't racist.

by Anonymousreply 256June 1, 2025 7:57 PM

Well, I’m sure Patti takes great comfort in the fact that the ONLY reason I’m watching the supremely mediocre And Just Like That is for her star turn as Anthony’s mom.

Team Patti, baby!

Someday, soon.

by Anonymousreply 261June 1, 2025 8:06 PM
Patti LuPone is 76. Why will her generation NEVER RETIRE?

And be replaced by......................who exactly ?

Cynthia Erivo ? Beanie Feldstein ? Ariana De Bose ? Ariana Grande ? Which diva in her 30s has the talent, drive and discipline to take Lupone's place on stage (who started out in her 30s) ?

by Anonymousreply 262June 1, 2025 8:13 PM

Patti defines “main character energy,” but in her case it’s not delusional. This controversy is just more proof that everything is, in fact, about her.

by Anonymousreply 263June 1, 2025 8:19 PM
Patti LuPone is 76. Why will her generation NEVER RETIRE?

Yeah, why won't they?

by Anonymousreply 264June 1, 2025 8:27 PM

They won't retire, because then you'd be stuck with hundreds of Sutton Fosters.

by Anonymousreply 265June 1, 2025 8:28 PM

At a successful 76 years old she has no more fucks to give.

by Anonymousreply 266June 1, 2025 8:43 PM

So many here and elsewhere seem to agree with you, R266. How do you square that with her apology? Someone with "no more fucks to give" would never have released one.

by Anonymousreply 267June 1, 2025 8:45 PM

If what Patti said in the New Yorker came out of Drag Race, everybody would be laughing their fool heads off.

by Anonymousreply 268June 1, 2025 8:52 PM

Didn’t read about the apology.

by Anonymousreply 269June 1, 2025 8:54 PM

M’suckin’

by Anonymousreply 270June 1, 2025 9:24 PM

Yes, R268, because that's the level her remarks were on -- suitable for DRAG RACE or WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE, but not for a serious profile of a major artist in THE NEW YORKER. And the endless "debates" around all of this confirm how large a percentage of LuPone's fanbase loves her most when she's a caricature, their cartoon idea of what a strong woman should be like. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 271June 1, 2025 9:47 PM

r262 I'm not a huge fan of Erivo (mainly because she's exhausting) but she IS hugely talented. And, her larger than life persona is what helps make her a Star that will be remembered.

Sutton Foster is still around and we're having a hard time remembering her...except as a beard for Hugh.

by Anonymousreply 272June 1, 2025 9:56 PM

She’s won a Tony and has two Oscar nods…while starring in last year’s megahit, AND in next year’s megahit. I bet she’s sleeping fairly well at age 38.

by Anonymousreply 273June 1, 2025 10:03 PM

That Lupone apology was a ChatGPT, not Lupone

by Anonymousreply 274June 2, 2025 12:25 AM

I didn't think it was real, either.

I still don't know who Kecia Lewis is and nor do I care to.

Finally got around to reading it. The old gal serves cunt from start to finish.

Those who want a quick primer on her career should give the article a glance.
