How do you deal with people viewing celebrities as straight and possible PR relationships as real?
How do you react to people in real life or other places on the internet who view celebrities as straight per default? For example: This week there are a lot of Cruise/Kidman throwback pictures. Or the Zendaya/Tom Holland engagement which people were happy about. The continuing DiCaprio-dates-a-25-year-old stories and how this is treated as real in a lot of places.
This is a gossip forum, and we can't know for sure what is behind certain rumors. But there were a lot of industry insiders on the DL over the years and some people were almost out decades ago.
How do you handle that and has it any impact on you?

This line of thinking is a direct reflection of social media today.
Of course, there have always been gay celebrities whose straight relationships gossip magazines have pushed.
But, the idea that one has to "deal" with it somehow or that it affects an unrelated person in any way is a notion of the modern era of anxiety-driven reactions and that everything is about you.
Sweetie, unless you're DL fav Kevin Lanflisi and distraught over your partner, DL fav Aaron Rodgers, latest PR girlfriend, it doesn't impact you at all.

Contrary to what many people think, heteronormativity is, in fact, the norm for the vast majority of people (it's baked into the word). That the default is that people are straight should neither be surprising nor rage inducing - as long as not conforming to that normative behavior is also a non-event.

He looks moody and uninterested next to the endless string of young models he supposedly dates (although that could be a paparazzi thing); there was a rumor years ago that he was going to come out but was talked out of it by his management; the Lukas Haas rumors; the Tobey Maguire rumors; never marrying, never having a kid; the (admittedly vague) Q-Tip rumor. None of it very convincing, but persistent none the less.

*Were* might be the operative word there, R40. DiCaprio might not be *your* cup of tea, but remember that even straight guys raved about his beauty when he was around 21 to 26 years old. He was considered far prettier than Claire Danes in "Romeo + Juliet" and was said to make his love interest, as played by Kate Winslet, look "matronly" beside him in "Titanic." Pete Davidson and Tyler the Creator admitted having crushes on him when younger (Davidson even to jerking off to his image).

OP is the Gay & Bearding Troll. Been here since 2012 and takes every opportunity to declare that 'everyone and their grandmother' knows that various young actors and singers are gay, closeted and bearding.
Thinks Tom Holland, Zendaya, Paul Mescal, Taylor Swift, Henry Cavill, Gigi Hadid, all of One Direction, and anyone else unmarried by the age of 30 are gay and have been in fake relationships since their teenage years.
He also gets very angry if his view is challenged and will accused you of being a 'PR shill' or 'naive and gullible about Hollywood.'

Iâm going to stick up for OP just a little bit. When I was a kid I sat next to an older woman on a train not too long after the death of Liberace. She was sort of broken up about it and at one point said, âSome people are saying he was gay, but I donât believe it.â
It was comical, but there is an underlying homophobia in her attitude. She wasnât going to believe it because she was a fan and him being gay would be a bad thing.
Not the same thing as deciding to take the relationships of Clooney, Cruise, Jackman, etc at face value because you canât know for sure. But, in the aggregate, it seems pretty likely that at least some celebrities are concealing their sexual preferences. If only because statistically itâs not believable that so few leading men are gay.
If OP is living and working in environments where people are discussing stories about celebrities they see in TMZ and the Daily Mail and insisting all those celebrities are straight, none of them could possibly be gay, then I could see how it might seem hurtful.
I am very glad I am not living or working in an environment where people discuss things like that. My associates and I know better than to admit we read trash like that.

I'm gay and I like being gay, it's a fun club to be in on most days, but I have always understood that we are a small minority. Therefore, my default has always been that someone is straight until they tell me otherwise.
I've discovered in my years of being on Datalounge that some of you are so starved for representation that everything celebrity-related is taken in and rebranded as gay. Two guys getting dinner, they're secretly fucking. Someone's cousin's friend's sister's ex assistant's stepbrother used to fuck the hot new twink star who has suddenly become A list. And they're always good-looking with good bodies. Gay speculation never happens around the unattractive or overweight guys.
People thinking celebrities are straight and that PR relationships are real has no impact on my life whatsoever, but I do worry about those whose lives it does impact, because outside of a gossip board, aren't there more important things to get worked up about?

Let's say there is a celebrities we have the receipts for that they are actually gay. And there are people who take their every move to mean oh look, he is flirting with her, and they have chemistry, and they might be involved. It's about visibility and representation. And people who hide. They have financial reasons for that and being in the limelight is probably never easy. But still, if people knew that a proportion of their leading men, or action stars, or character actors are actually gay, that would change something.
I can not believe we seriously have to discuss this.

Here are some points I have (trying my best to maintain a balanced posture on this topic):
1. In an ideal world, we shouldn't care about celebs' relationships, but a lot celebs make tons of cash an publicity by selling their personal lives' "issues" to tabloids. I mean, how many times do magazines like People and US weekly need to put Jennifer Aniston on their covers cause she's giving an "exclusive interview" for the 1,000,000th time detailing her miserable love life?
2. Now, wehenver a gay-themed movie is about to be released, they have to market their "cutting-edge" approach of having two apparently straight actors as the lead roles. So they engage in this moronic publicity stunt of cosplaying gay in real life, but once the film is released, the actors are straighter than Chuck Norris and need to remind the world they are striclty pussyhounds. Thaat's why I'm glad films like "Queer" got totally ignored at the Academy Awards.
3. Hollywood has no moral in lecturing the average citizen about gay rights, tolerance, etc. cause, like most of you said before, a lot of male celebs' carreers will be damaged if they dare to come out.

Di Caprio is straight. If he was gay, closeted and bearding he'd want to create the impression of being a guy who is loyal and in age appropriate relationships, not represent himself as a sleazy creep who only dates a succession of women in their early 20s.

Doesn't change the fact that lots of actors are gay or sexually fluid.

It is not my place to tell anyone else how to be gay, and it's sure as hell not my place to tell anyone when or how they should be out publicly, especially when it can affect their ability to earn a living.
But their are other reasons why celebrities may not come out.
1) Others depend on their celebrity. If the lead actor comes out and they can't market a gay leading man to foreign markets or flyover, that affects more than just the studio, but everyone who earns a living from that one celebrity's ability to open a movie.
2) No one wants to be a role model. You come out, and all of a sudden, you have to be Mr. Perfect Gay. You have to speak to gay rights groups. You're expected to be front and center on gay rights. You're expected to make gay teens feel better about being gay teens. Most people don't want that responsibility.

Bend over honey regardless of your sexual preference. For some like Pitt & McConaughey it's all fun and they just shug it off. For others like Cruise it fucks them up for life. The casting couch works the same for boys as it does for girls .

For you hypocrites who take the time to go and post on a Gay Gossip Site that they self righteously couldn't give a damn who is gay and have zero interest in gay gossip as it in no way interests them or impacts them in anyway:
Anosognosia
A lack of self-awareness, sometimes called Anosognosia, is the inability to recognize one's own deficits, whether they are neurological, psychiatric, or personality-based. This lack of insight can lead to a wide range of problems, from noncompliance with treatment to putting oneself in dangerous situations.
This term refers to the specific neurological condition where individuals are unaware of their deficits, often associated with brain lesions, stroke, or certain mental illnesses.
A lack of self-awareness can make it difficult to understand how your actions and words affect others, potentially leading to misunderstandings and hurt feelings.
Individuals with a lack of self-awareness may struggle with empathy, sympathy, and the ability to read social cues, making it difficult for them to connect with others.

How many 40ish straight men have you ever known who've never had, at the very least, a long-term live-in relationship with a woman? Most of them are married and have kids by that age.
Leo, Jake G, Chris Pine etc. are not straight. At least not 100% straight.
Ben Affleck, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Ryan Phillippe and Brad Pitt are typical of straight men who are wealthy. Their relationship histories are pretty standard that way.

Such celebrities did not personally choose to live a lie; they were told to do so. In exposing them, you may be coming up against a powerful machine that does not appreciate that. To whatever degree your question was sincere, I'd say live YOUR life, and let this go. Roll your eyes or laugh to yourself.

Leo dated Bar Rafaeli for five years and they lived together. Jake Gyllenhaal has been dating the model Jeanne Cadieu since 2018. Seven years. Chris Pine dated Annabelle Wallis for four years, from 2018-2022.
As for Leo 'not being convincing' in straight roles - this really did make me laugh. If he wasn't convincing as Romeo he wouldn't have been cast as Jack in Titanic. He was 100% convincing as Gatsby and all the other straight roles he's played and been awarded for.
