Part 7
People didn’t “miss’ that no one cared. It just wasn’t much of a payoff. Why bother with the character at all? Just because people are used to the manager being a character?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 31, 2025 4:27 PM |
When did Scott Glenn get so fucking old? I kept hoping it was because of a great make-up artist.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 31, 2025 4:28 PM |
Why bother with the character? Because he's the fucking manager, that's why. Can't have a White Lotus season without featuring the manager. And Mike White said in the past this season wouldn't focus on that person as much and this was his jokey way of delivering on that "promise" – all that buildup and then cutting away after three seconds. I thought it was hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 31, 2025 4:33 PM |
Last season was always going to be hard to live up to.
With one episode left I think we can safely say this has been a disappointment. Saxon has turned into a more interesting character this episode (7) but there isn't enough racetrack left to allow that to play out.
Sritala is a ladyboy. Is that going ro be the big reveal?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 31, 2025 4:33 PM |
r2 He looked ancient already on the Daredevil show back in 2015, but they did great with the body double, so the fighting looked seamless.
I couldn't help but stare at his numerous forearm veins, I guess that'll happen to all the gym rats eventually.

Actually, we can.
We have the owners this year. We don’t need the manager and the point is he has been given very little to do.

I don’t find anything Saxon did or said to be particularly interesting. He’s just being set up to be killed by his father. Both the wife and son just happen to say to the suicidal father “I’m nothing without your money.” Who talks like that?

Episode seven was kind of unsettling and ominous. Rick seems like the obvious choice to be the one to die. Sritala's bodyguards will remember/recognize him at the resort, which will lead to an altercation. Gaitok will intervene and have to use the gun, which will later impress Mook and Sritala. The Russians will join in, thinking they've been caught. Chaos ensues.
Piper will decide not to stay at the monastery, and Loch will follow her. Again. Tim will think about poisoning everyone with the fruit (as hinted in the preview for the final episode), but will back off in the end. Again. Saxon will get his phone back and find out what's really going on. With Rick dead and Saxon's entire life destroyed, he and Chelsea will run off together.
Belinda being so ride or die for Tanya makes no sense. Belinda only knew her for a few days, and Tanya screwed her over. There's no reason for her to stay loyal.
One episode left, but I've seen enough to say this season has been a letdown. Not entirely a disappointment, just really underwhelming.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 31, 2025 4:50 PM |

She’d throw off the balance of the show, which is really an ensemble showcase for Hollywood B-listers and foreign actors, but I think it’d be way more fun to watch Goop play a slightly trashy, over-the-hill concierge who is desperate to become manager, but doomed to be overlooked.

R19 Tanya didn’t totally fuck her over though. That was a nice stack of cash to give her as a consolation prize. I do credit the show for nuances like that that interject some ambiguity into people’s motivations.

Scott’s character is probably grateful for Rick. Now he has something fun to do. He seemed like a guy totally bored with his life now that he’s at the top. He should go to the White Lotus himself and have a ‘chat’ with Rick.
How far away from Bangkok is the White Lotus? Do we know?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 31, 2025 5:41 PM |
My money is on Rick and possibly Chelsea being the murder victims. All other storylines will fall flat as there isn’t sufficient time left to give them much depth. It’s probably the worst of the three seasons. A lot of edging but very little payoff.

I'm a recent fan of the show.
I started binge watching Seasons 1 and 2, about a week after Season 3 started.
With that said, I really feel like this season has been a HUGE disappointment.
Even if the last episode turns out to be amazing, I would still consider this season (as a whole) to be a failure.
I understand that Mike White must be under a lot of pressure, with two very successful seasons under his belt, he's the toast of the town with the hottest show on television, MAX is probably throwing money at him, stars are clamoring to work with him, he's attending awards shows and winning awards, he's traveling the world, and he's probably on a major high.
Unfortunately, I think the pressure is getting to him. Especially considering that prior to 2020, he was a pretty obscure actor, writer, and reality tv personality. Now, he's VERY famous.
Overall, I'd have to say that the writing this season was very weak, with the exception of episodes one and six.
It almost seems like season three was a retread/mashup of the two previous seasons, except not as well written.
You know how in high school and college, when you have a paper due, and you rush at the last minute to get it done, but it's absolute crap?
Yeah, that's what this season felt like. Mike White got it done, but it wasn't great.
At this point, I think he needs to bite the bullet and realize that he could benefit from a team of writers, and not rely on himself to be the sole writer AND director of the show.
I understand that he wants the glory, but he can't do it all and still expect the quality to be good. Not after three seasons.
Parker Posey and Sam Rockwell were the only saving graces of this season. Without their comedic relief, this season would have been an absolute disaster.
I still don't care much about the three cougar friends. Their story just wasn't compelling. Even after the long awaited fight during dinner, they didn't go as far as I hoped. I thought it would be a knock down drag out (finally getting it all off their chests) type of insult hurling, nasty brawl. But instead, it was just a few insults hurled at each other, with one leaving the table, and the other two going to bed. It was beyond underwhelming.
I learned about as much about the Ratliff family after seven episodes, as I did in the first episode. Can anyone honestly say that after watching episode one, that there has been any major change in their story, or that you learned a lot more about them by episode seven? I can't.
Same for Gaitok and Mook. She was brushing him off in episode one, while he was pining for her. And by episode seven, it was the same thing.
Then there's the ridiculous scene with Frank and Rick at Sritala's home. Much like the interaction between them in episode six, they were woefully unprepared to handle her questions, and she was ridiculously buying all of their bullshit. Which is so stupid, considering how smart and savvy Sritala seemed to be in the first few episodes of the season. Frank's answers to her questions were completely ridiculous, and somehow, all she managed was a raised eyebrow? C'mon now.
And you want to talk about underwhelming? Rick's confrontation with his father's killer turned out to be just a big nothing burger. "Oh, I just looked at him and saw a frail, old man. So I pushed him over." After all the drama we saw him go through in the first four episodes? Ugh.
In the end, my guess is that after Rick pushed the old man over, he died from brain bleeding due to head trauma. Sritala is so distraught, she returns to the hotel and kills Rick. A perfectly ridiculous ending, to a perfectly ridiculous story line.
The only ones left are Greg and Belinda, and I don't know what other options there would be to resolve their story by episode eight, other than he kills her, or she takes the money and opens up her own spa.
As I said before, MAX needs to convince Mike White to hire a small team of writers. Otherwise, I don't see this show getting any better.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 31, 2025 5:52 PM |
Weren't both of the previous season finales of this show more than one hour long?
I've been a little disappointed with the writing this season too, but one thing Mike White is very good at is packing a lot of unexpected twists into season finales that settle the plotlines (unless he wants to continue them the next season).
The only thing I feel safe predicting is that since the preview for the final episode purposefully seems to make you believe Timothy is going to put the poisonous fruit in the blender, it won't be used to kill his family. That doesn't mean his family will all necessarily survive, but I doubt they will die of poisoned shakes.

Jacklyn didn't fuck over Laurie! Frau. You snooze you lose.

Chelsea is a fun character, but the storyline with Rick has always been very dark.
It’s a classic “woman with low self esteem gets involved with scumbag because she thinks she can change him” storyline.
He treats her like shit.
He makes no effort to deal with his problems. He appears to be a shady operator, possibly dangerous.
He’s an idiot who goes around releasing snakes and stranding his girlfriend in a foreign country while he jets off to confront gangsters.,
I’ve been puzzled by viewers’ thinking they are good together. But this is what dangerously dysfunctional relationships look like. No one is 100% bad. They might have the occasional warm moment. But Rick is a mostly bad guy, and he’s bad for Chelsea.
If she ends up dead, it’s sadly a natural result of her being involved with Rick. The show has been pretty clear about this all season.

We’re about to see just how stranded Chelsea is. I suspect once Sritala’s goons start closing in, she’ll turn out to be pretty stranded.
I’ll be very surprised if Rick isn’t taken out before he makes it back to Chelsea. If he makes it back, it’s almost impossible that the goons would allow them to leave in one piece.

I found myself judging Laurie for being in such a dangerous situation with the Russians at the fight and with her one night stand afterwards.
I pulled shit like that (1) in my twenties and (2) in familiar surroundings.
Laurie is mid-to-late 40s and is basically a single mother. She’s in unfamiliar surroundings. What the FUCK is she thinking? I’m surprised she’s not dead yet.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 31, 2025 6:26 PM |
There is a theory that Scott Glen's character is Rick's father. Not that he killed him but his mother, a drug addict, told him this because he left her for a lady boy, "killing' their family. It makes the story Sam Rockwell told fit Rick's storyline. How Sam ended up liking being fucked by lady boys. Scott Glen was probably the same guy, feel in love with a lady boy and left his family.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 31, 2025 6:27 PM |

Here’s my main beef with this season- there are more boring characters than there are compelling ones. I’m half convinced that Walton Goggins is fucking Mike White which can be the only reason he is so fixated on his awful character. Momentum comes to a screeching halt every time his face appears onscreen. The Jaclyn/Laurie/Kate scenes are so frustratingly brief yet we need to be subjected to so many ponderous scenes with other subpar characters. Some characters are interesting only because of plot devices. Jason Isaacs’s character is so flat and awful, despite an intriguing storyline. There’s just very little propulsion this season. I feel like I have actual blueballs watching this season.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 31, 2025 6:40 PM |
Saxon is growing on this trip. Last night we saw a more vulnerable side to him. Why?
He’s now realizing how other people view him (because of Chloe and Chelsea) and he doesn’t like it. Back home he’s a big shot because he’s the big mans son and probably surrounded by yes-men, but now that he isn’t he sees how others view him and he’s definitely bothered by it.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 31, 2025 6:40 PM |
R61 that doesn’t even make sense. This isn’t an ongoing season. It was written them cast, then filmed all at once. Walton didn’t fuck Mike White for screentime. The character already had the screentime. All the main characters have a lot of screentime. It’s called an ENSEMBLE. There is no lead.
Season 2 was the only one where you could claim a lead existed.

[quote]Not that he killed him but his mother, a drug addict, told him this because he left her for a lady boy, "killing' their family.
It might just be exactly what it is... he's a guy who killed his father who doesn't even remember it.
I was also thinking that maybe he is his father and he simply just left Rick and his mom. Rick's mother assumed he was dead and killed by this man when instead he took the man's place. I only thought this because his response to Rick's claims was saying his mother's name twice, almost as if he was in shock... that his son had found him, and then Rick wouldn't let him say anything else. Even after Rick was leaving, the man was silent.

Other than her friends telling Laurie she's dissatisfied with her life is there any indication in the storytelling/performance that Laurie is dissatisfied with her life? I'm really not getting that about the character, who seems to me very confident and content.
And what are we really meant to think Gaitok can do with the observation that he saw 2 Russian guys at a boxing match with Valentin? How would he prove that they robbed the jewelry store?
And Belinda's findings on her computer about Greg/Gary...why hasn't she shown those suspicious findings to anyone in law enforcement at the spa or even her trusted son? As they're all familiar with Greg/Gary from constantly seeing him around the hotel, surely, they'd be interested?
And was Chloe seriously doing Greg/Gary's bidding in trying to enlist Saxon in a ménage a trois? Or was she just putting Saxon on? In the end all it seemed so half-hearted on her part. I, at least, appreciated Saxon's firm refusal.
So many plot holes....
Yes, you can answer any of my questions with: well, that's how random life is. But this is an 8-part drama series....shouldn't we expect something a little more dramatic?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 31, 2025 6:45 PM |
I would over a suggestion to Mike white to rewrite the ratliffe family storyline: The Piper monastery shit should have come first in the season before any other drama with the family: Because the crisis of her doing that is relatively minor, but reveals significant things about Victoria and Tim’s values. Then half way through the season, we should have found out about Tim’s trouble with the feds. This would have provided the stake raising bump that the middle of the season missed having. Also Lachlan should have gone to monastery with Piper before rather than after the boat ride- so that pipers rejection of him leads him to try to bond with Saxon… inappropriately.
This would be a much better sequence of events for that family in order to build suspense through your the season

I'm still loving this season, but admit there was some lazy writing with Frank showing up having NO knowledge of Sritala's movie career. This a day or two after she nearly busted Rick for his total ignorance? It would take them all of five minutes to familiarize themselves with a few of her old movies.

R96, that must have felt like forever. Frank and Rick seem like they've been through plenty of crimes and court-mandated twelve step programs together. Guys like that don't rely on trade craft; they always think that they can charm or lie their way through any situation. Their complete lack of preparation did, indeed, look realistic.

Alex Murdaugh killed his family because he viewed them as dead weight problem-makers. It was a rage killing. And / or he wanted that sweet, sweet insurance money.
Tim seems to actually care about his family to some extent.
But, yes— the dream sequences definitely call to mind the Murdaugh case.

Directing is some of the best on TV, I feel like he outdoes himself each season. It's the editing that's a bit iffy this season, with maybe one too many cuts to B-roll footage and Thai fighting. I mean, it all looks really nice, but I still feel we should go back to seven or even six episode seasons.

There was a scene where Lochlan was showing Timothy a video of man walking into a tsunami and Tim was mesmerized by it, then there was Victoria's dream of wave swallowing them or their house or something, I don't quite remember, and lastly the monk describing to Tim how death is like a drop of water returning back into the ocean, with shots of droplets of water splashing and Tim again seemed really taken by it. We had that shot of ways crashing in this episode as well. If he doesn't kill himself or at least try to kill himself by walking into the ocean...I've been bamboozled by Mike White like I've never been bamboozled in my life before
by Anonymous | reply 114 | March 31, 2025 8:35 PM |
I just think Mike White remains too idiosyncratic for a general audience and that only becomes more clear with time as he keeps following his weird obsessions down ever weirder paths, and so you get lots of dullards who are inecplicably bored by the most riveting hour of TV every week. His approach is always so slo-mo car-crash in miniature that every year that I don't realize until the end how deeply I feel I know these characters; how they feel like real people to me. I think this third season's darker themes have been beautifully excavated and as much fun as I had with Tanya I don't miss the center of gravity that Jennifer Coolidge's reliable goofiness greedily gobbled up. It feels much more like an abstraction this year, with every facet commenting on the same disappointments, the same violence within ourselves. It's hard to say where the show will land until we've seen the entire thing but I think this is the most successful season so far.

The scenes with Rick and friend at the rich Thai singer's house while sitting with the husband and awkwardly talking about "the film project" was beyond awkward. No one did their homework, actress or two guys. She didn't even google the "producers" bio? Amateur! The couple should have thrown them out after ten minutes for wasting their time. The guys should have coordinated their stories.
It's possible that after Rick pushed the old guy backwards in his chair and ran out, that the old guy died due to his fragility and injuries. In that case, Rick's goose is cooked and whatever happiness he and Chelsea may have found is gone.
It was a huge disappointment that Belinda's son wanted her to take the money, basically a bribe. No ethics there. Belinda should turn the old guy in, he's a murderer living off his victim's fortune. So what she was weird, she was heroic on that boat, sad that she died. Avenge her, Belinda! But first, get out of Thailand and report him from afar.
Loved the scene with Carrie Coon/Laurie fucking that guy then being extorted and fleeing in disgrace. Now that was some action!
Ever since dad Tim Ratliff dad learned he was broke he's done nothing but take pills and booze and think of killing his family and suicide. Boring! Come clean idiot! It will be traumatic but people do survive these disgraces. Start over somewhere else. Boozy mama can work for a change. Or she can dump him and find another rich guy.
I was proud of Gaitok for admitting he's not a tough guy. Now he needs to dump that airhead who doesn't appreciate a decent man.

Belinda doesn't know Tonya had been heroic on the boat. All she knows is that three men were found shot to death on the boat, and that Tonya drowned in mysterious circumstances near it.
Even so, Natasha Rothwell said on the after-show commentary her character is conflicted about not accepting Greg's money because she thinks she would be setting a bad example for her son.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | March 31, 2025 9:17 PM |
One episode only to go i can safely say this is the worse season. For all the very obvious fight ring motif, every confrontation in this episode was either underwhelming or unresolved or both.
The three friends continue to have almost nothing to do. The family stays resolutely the same, though somehow confirming Lachy’s and Saxon’s being creeps. The dinner party at Greg’s was most unconvincing. Bankcok was predictable.
On the plus side: Leslie Bibb continues to do great, the russian con, not much else noteworthy .

I want to have sympathy for Rick, but that’s purely down to Walton Goggins’s innate likability.
Nothing in the character as written is all that sympathetic if likable. He’s a terrible boyfriend, and now he’s destroyed Frank’s newly rebuilt life. Frank will probably end up being killed.
If I had to guess, Rick seems to symbolize the tragedy of people not dealing with their problems. Rick’s life was more tragic than most, it’s true. But to me he is a powerful warning.

I'm going to pretend like a couple of the cast members haven't already implied that they will live next week in their interviews.
[quote]Belinda doesn't know Tonya had been heroic on the boat. All she knows is that three men were found shot to death on the boat, and that Tonya drowned in mysterious circumstances near it.
And if she took the money for her silence, she could get in trouble later on--especially if someone pieces together that she worked at the White Lotus that Tanya visited in the past. She also told at least three people that she thinks he did kill Tanya so she can't pretend like it didn't happen now. Taking that bribe could lead to an obstruction of justice charge and then she'd lose everything. I'm hoping she still gets what she wants in the end and that Pornchai has a stash of cash he has saved over his lifetime to start a business with her like he asked.
I am glad that she at least knows that Tanya didn't forget about her although Greg sure is public for someone who doesn't know if any of their guests might actually be able to place him.

Additional thoughts;
Jason Isaacs is a fine actor but has now been lorenzepaned for what, 4!episodes? Also, his visions of killing is family are extremely lazy writing, the menace would suffice.
Carrie Coon acts fine but has even lesser to do than her friends. I think this was the character that initially viewers thought could identify themselves. Very wrongly.
Aimee Lou is a great actress but is also stuck in a now thankless role.
Finally, slighttly irritattes me the gay incest bait storyline. So far ie meaningless and verging on exploitation.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | April 1, 2025 12:21 AM |
I think people have forgotten this season that even in the past Mike White's writing isn't always airtight.
Many people commented during the first season that it made no sense that Connie Britton and Steve Zahn's extremely wealthy family would not have paid for a suite big enough for their two teenaged children to each have their own rooms, and that both parents then would have allowed their daughter to invite a college friend along, and then that both allow the daughter and the friend to force the son to sleep in the stuffy kitchen. But for the exigencies of the plot, White needed the son to be miserable in the suite so he had a reason to sleep on the beach and meet the outriggers.
In the second season, it made no sense Quentin (Tom Hollander) had that spectacular villa and that gigantic yacht, and yet was about to go bankrupt and lose the house (couldn't he just have sold the yacht and kept the villa?).

R107 I don't think the Murdaugh murders were rage killings. It took care of several problems for Alex.
1. Paul's boat crash lawsuit would go away. (In Alex's head anyway) This could possibly keep the exposure of his financial misdeeds at bay.
2. There are rumors Maggie started investigating his finances, and maybe wanted a divorce. Again, her being gone would keep his financial misdeeds at bay.
3. If he killed Paul and not Maggie, she of all people would know he'd killed Paul so he had not choice.
4. The sympathy. I believe he thought that if his wife and son were murdered, his firm would be more lenient about his financial misdeeds and give him the opportunity to make things right.
I don't think rage played into it. It was an ice cold, calculated decision.
I think the other commonality between the show and the killings is Alex and Timothy are both pillheads.

No, R146, in Thailand that’s money laundering, in Italy that’s Aiding and Abetting. You just can’t take money from someone that may have committed a crime. There’s no extradition treaty but they have done it before.
The point is, and it looks like it will happen next week, she will sit down at some point and realize that, there are possible negatives to her taking it or not.
If she doesn’t: he could kill her and Zion. If she does: she could be aiding a murderer, he could still kill her anyway, they would now be involved with each other and 100k is nothing to him & it sounds like Zion will tell her to ask for more money.

I know Saxon was meant to believe it, but I couldn't be quite sure whether Chloe herself believes that bullshit story about Greg wanting to watch. And why Chelsea was so supportive of the whole thing. As Greg is clearly lying about not being able to have sex with his former wife, it's a ruse, but to what end, and who's in on it?
I'm not sure which is more preposterous, the Greg/Chloe or the RIck/Frank schemes.

I like it because you get to see what happens on a yacht boat party in another country I guess.
Maybe it's Americans craving international delight and drama like movies in classic times when they treated and depicted other countries with respect.

[quote] I know Saxon was meant to believe it, but I couldn't be quite sure whether Chloe herself believes that bullshit story about Greg wanting to watch. And why Chelsea was so supportive of the whole thing.
Chloe wants another chance at Saxon again because he's young and hot. Plus it's what Greg wants, and she wants to tie him closer to her. I don;t think anyone would want this, but Chloe isn't very particular.
And Chelsea isn't very bright--she's got some great qualities, but she's naive and easily led. Anjd since she's compromised her own wants so much with Rick, she realizes why Chloe would want to do this for Greg.

The only thing I don’t like about the season are the Thai characters storyline. I suspect he’ll get killed trying to prove his masculinity to the Thai girl, who basically said she wouldn’t be interested him unless he embraces violence.

TikTok is full of people trying to justify/prove that Sritala is Rick's father and is a MTF trans woman.
First, why would she have a Thai accent speaking English if she is American born as would be Rick's father? How does transitioning affect American to Thai race? Rick never mentioned to Chelsea that he is half Thai or Asian.
It is a big stretch to imagine that Sritala is Rick's father, but can anyone explain how it would be possible?

This is fascinating, r213. Great details at your link:
[quote]The new season will see the return of several fan-favorite characters who managed to survive their original getaways. Among them is Daphne Sullivan (Meghann Fahy) from season 2, who is now navigating the Mediterranean solo, post-divorce, and very into biohacking.
[quote]Also returning is Quinn Mossbacher (Fred Hechinger), the teenage son from season 1 who famously ditched his family in Hawaii to canoe with local islanders. Now in his early twenties, Quinn resurfaces in Greece as a sustainability intern at Koukoumi, filming a mini-documentary about the resort’s zero-waste kitchen.
[quote] Joining them is fan-favorite Nicole Mossbacher (Connie Britton), Quinn’s high-powered mother, who is attending a women’s leadership and longevity retreat at the resort. Fresh off a board shake-up at her tech firm, Nicole is there to reclaim balance, though her passive-aggressive Zoom calls from the resort’s juice bar say otherwise.
[quote]New characters include a scandal-plagued wellness guru with a kombucha empire, a TikTok-famous fruitarian couple on a pre-breakup honeymoon, and a Greek-American crypto investor who insists his carnivore diet is ancestral.
[quote]White confirms some season 3 characters will also return, but doesn’t want to spoil the season finale, which airs on April 6. Like White, season 3’s Jason Isaacs is also vegan.

[quote]“The season was written before the election. And considering the way the Trump administration has weaponized the cultural war against transgender people even more since then, when the time came to cut the episode down, Mike felt that the scene was so small and the topic so big that it wasn’t the right way to engage in that conversation,” Coon explained.

by Anonymous | reply 259 | April 1, 2025 8:49 PM |
Piper's attempt to join the sect's community provided the thematic underpinning for the whole plot. It's probably not been very rewarding for the actress playing Piper, but it was necessary for the entire concept of the season.

People doing a retreat often follow the monks' routine of no food after lunch. Clearly this one isn't very traditional.
So much bad writing and direction: Lochlan's sudden veering out of fratbro dude mode seemed odd. So did Sritala's willing acceptance of likes from Frank, while the aborted confrontation between Rick and Jim largely falls flat. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Goggins off-putting--looking weird as an acting style only takes you so far. For me, he's teh Jennifer Coolidge of this season because when ever I see him, I know it's not going to be great.
I hope one of the three women gets held hostage or something. Otherwise, their storyline is boring and not much of a distraction from everything else. They seem to be there to show how awful the Russians are, but that could have been established without them.

by Anonymous | reply 284 | April 2, 2025 1:16 AM |
R234 Yeah, I mentioned it upthread. People responded "she drinks herself to sleep now" but benzos don't work that way. At the very least she'd be irritable and unable to sleep. But more likely she'd be having other pretty severe withdrawal symptoms. And drinking would only make things worse. The woman would be miserable.
I mean, I get it, it's a show. But I do feel like this and a few other details make it seem like some corners were cut while Mike White was writing. Love the show, but there's a sloppiness there that the first couple seasons didn't have.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | April 2, 2025 1:25 AM |
Why are people assuming she was an addict?
by Anonymous | reply 286 | April 2, 2025 1:33 AM |
R286, because every third word out of her mouth was "lorazepam."
by Anonymous | reply 287 | April 2, 2025 1:40 AM |
R287 Right. The writing made it seem as if it was a regular part of her life. A person who takes it as often as she appeared to on a regular basis would definitely be addicted, and would have to work with a doctor to ween off of it.
Now, if it is meant to be the case that she just started taking it on vacation, there should have been a line of dialog to clear that up. This is why I say it's a bit sloppy.
I feel bad harping on this because I do love the show. It's a fun escape every week, and I'll be sad when it ends.

[quote] Carrie Coon didn't return for “Avengers: Endgame” because Marvel wouldn't pay her more, husband Tracy Letts says
Tracy Letts said the reason his wife, Carrie Coon, a costar in Avengers: Infinity War is not a part of Avengers: Endgame came down to salary.
"I believe [Marvel] went to her for the second one, and they asked her to be in the second one," Letts said on a recent episode of The Ringer's The Big Picture podcast, per PEOPLE. "And she said, 'Well, the first one is the most successful movie ever made. Are you going to pay me any more money?' And they said, 'No. We're not going to pay you any more money.'"
Released in April 2018, Infinity War grossed $2 billion at the global box office, becoming only the fourth film to do so, just seven weeks into its run.
"She said, 'Wow, you're not going to pay me any more money, then I don't think I'm going to do it,'" Letts continued. "And they said, 'Well, you should feel yourself fortunate to be part of the Marvel Universe.' So she declined."
Letts and Coon married in 2013, five years before she played villain Proxima Midnight in the MCU. The character didn't have any lines in Endgame, having died in the previous movie. But she did appear on screen.
"We would've made a bigger deal out of this," Letts said, "but it would have involved us watching the movies, and we weren't going to do that."

I'm now more intrigued by the behind-the-scenes goings-on.
[quote] [Isaacs] elaborated that dynamics shifted significantly: "Some people got very close, there were friendships that were made and friendships that were lost. All the things you would imagine with a group of people unanchored from their home lives on the other side of the world, in the intense pressure cooker of the working environment with eye-melting heat and insects and late nights."
[quote] Unlocking a little more behind-the-scenes intrigue, Isaacs hinted that the drama didn't just play out on screen, teasing that "an off-screen White Lotus as well, with fewer deaths but just as much drama."
[quote] Jason was tight-lipped about behind-the-scenes gossip, chuckling as he declared he would "absolutely not" share juicy details. "I became very close to some people and less close to others, but we still all had that experience together, and there's a certain level of discretion required," he elaborated.

Apparently the composer for the series has had constant fights with Mike White since season 1 and is now leaving the show forever. He compares himself implicitly to the nigth club owner trying to make everything work in "La Cage aux Folles," and White to Albin, the diva.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | April 2, 2025 10:37 PM |
Cristóbal Tapia de Veer did not have an entirely pleasant stay at “The White Lotus.”
Mr. Tapia de Veer, a 51-year-old composer who was born in Chile, joined a video call on Monday from his home in the Laurentian Mountains in Quebec, a gong the size of a beach ball visible over his right shoulder. We had planned to discuss his score for Season 3 of the HBO show — specifically, its reworked main title theme, which ignited a minor fury among fans when the season premiered in February.
The conversation went in a very different direction. Mr. Tapia de Veer, who has won three Emmy Awards for his work on “The White Lotus,” said he would not be returning for the show’s fourth season.
He described creative disagreements with the show’s creator and director, Mike White, that began during Season 1. Conversations with producers could be “hysterical,” Mr. Tapia de Veer said, and the show’s creative team repeatedly requested music that was more upbeat and less experimental than the work Mr. Tapia de Veer wanted to produce. (Representatives for HBO declined to comment for this article.)
“I feel like this was, you know, a rock ’n’ roll band story,” Mr. Tapia de Veer said. “I was like, OK, this is like a rock band I’ve been in before where the guitar player doesn’t understand the singer at all, and is always fighting with the guitar player.”
And about that eerie Season 3 theme? Mr. Tapia de Veer loves it, but had hoped the season would include a longer version that builds into the more recognizable melody from the Season 1 and Season 2. Frustrated by its absence, he posted the “uncut ending” to his YouTube channel. (You can listen to it below.)
In the following conversation, which has been edited and condensed, Mr. Tapia de Veer reflected on his tenure with the show. (cont.)

Q: I want to go back to the moment when the Season 2 theme that you composed for “The White Lotus” became a phenomenon — it had all these remixes, it was playing in clubs. Did that put any pressure on the next season?
A: Pressure? Not really. The pressure has always been something else in this show. And since we’re talking themes, I wonder if I should tell you for the first theme, how it got to the second — like, the whole “White Lotus” theme thing. You know, I haven’t done any interviews, so I don’t even know where to start with this.
Q. Start wherever you’d like.
A. It’s kind of weird right now because I announced to the team a few months ago that I was not coming back, that I was leaving. I didn’t tell Mike for various reasons; I wanted to tell him just at the end for the shock and whatever. Except I told the whole editorial team and music editor and producer and all that, but I didn’t think that they were going to tell him. At some point he heard about that.
Q. This is your last season, for sure?
A. Yeah, yeah. For sure.
Q. Did Mike say anything to you when he found out that you planned to leave?
A. He says a lot of things, but I can’t really talk about that. There was a French movie, “La Cage Aux Folles.” You know how there’s Albin, which is like the star, and there’s Renato, who is the producer who is always taking care that Albin doesn’t lose his mind about something, because Albin is the diva and Renato is the guy who is trying to make everything work. To me, the show felt very much like that.
Q. Did it feel like that from the beginning?
A, When I got the script, I wasn’t sure that it was something for me, because it was very well written, but there’s a reality TV kind of vibe going on, and comedic. My stuff in general is the opposite of this, it’s super dark and edgy. But when we had the talk with Mike, I just told him in a joke that I thought we could do some kind of “Hawaiian Hitchcock,” and he really grabbed on that and he started laughing.
I feel like I need to give credit where credit is due, because it’s hard to know how something like “The White Lotus” can actually happen, which is harder than people might imagine. You see it afterward, and it’s a success, but to get there is quite the struggle. I was on the phone with her [Heather Persons, one of the show’s producers] all the time, and she was trying to convince Mike about this theme, because he didn’t want the theme.
Q. He didn’t want the Season 1 theme?
A. He had a temp score, a song that is more like something you would listen to in Ibiza, in some clubby place with a chill, sexy vibe. And there’s literally no edge to it. It’s a good song; it’s nice music. There’s just absolutely no — whatever you find in the “White Lotus” music, the relationships with the characters — there’s none of that. It’s just nice background music.
I just stuck to what I was doing. And when I was giving versions, it was still the same thing: There were still crazy people and screaming and stuff like that. From there, it became this weird relationship of, How do I pass all this weird music into the show?
Q. What direction were you given for the Season 3 theme, “Enlightenment”?
A. There was no direction. When I started working on this, I had a collection of Thai gongs that are unrelated to the show. So I started experimenting with that, and then I started looking for someone to play the saw u, which is the Thai violin, which in the theme happens in the beginning.
My mom sent me an accordion at some point, an Italian accordion, and I have no idea how to play it. But I was able to play that. I think it helps the melody, to make it more uplifting, because the melody is very dark. (cont.)
by Anonymous | reply 330 | April 2, 2025 10:41 PM |
(cont.) Q. How did you come up with the melody? Did you consider including that “ooh-loo-loo-loo” melody from Seasons 1 and 2?
A. The melody is special. It’s something very weird, and is almost impossible to sing unless you’re a singer with a good ear, because the intervals in it are really hard. It has a mystery in it that is kind of magic to me. It’s like there’s some witchery going on.
I have, like, over 20 versions of that theme, with and without the ooh-loo-loo-loos. But of course, in the 1:45 titles that’s allowed, there’s nothing from the other ones. That was kind of a risk, but we never talked about that. I don’t think everybody was really aware of how attached people were to the ooh-loo-loo-loos.
Q. What was it like for you, watching people get so upset that the melody was different? (“I do not understand why you would break something that was perfect,” read one social media post.)
A. When that came out, I had TMZ calling me, even people from England and from France, because they wanted some kind of statement about the theme. People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting.
I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway. He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that — he wasn’t happy about that.
I mean, at that point, we already had our last fight forever, I think. So he was just saying no to anything. So I just uploaded that to my YouTube.
Q. Do you think people have warmed up to the theme as it is?
A. Oh, yeah. At one point, people were like insulting me and sending me horrible things. And then I started seeing these videos: ‘You know what, I used to hate the theme but now I’m kind of dancing to it.’ It’s like they’re transformed. I was really excited about that.
Q. How are you feeling now about the decision to move on?
A.. I mean, it is what it is. You know, I was watching the Emmys, and it’s like, there’s one thing I’m pretty proud of and that is I feel like I never gave up. Maybe I was being unprofessional, and for sure Mike feels that I was always unprofessional to him because I didn’t give him what he wanted. But what I gave him did this, you know — did those Emmys, people going crazy.
People don’t remember, but at first some people were complaining about the music: “I can’t concentrate on the characters, and it’s too much and I’m so stressed out.” But I’m really happy to take those kinds of risks. That is the main thing that I’m most happy about — it was worth all the tension and almost forcing the music into the show, in a way, because I didn’t have that many allies in there.
I treasure that more than something else I did that was just a success, and it works and that’s that, with less struggle. This was a good struggle.

The White Lotus cast and crew has revealed several details about the cast that almost was, including which well-known actor almost played Walton Goggins’ Rick Hatchett and why creator Mike White “didn’t want to cast” Patrick Schwarzenegger at first.
The buzzy third season has everyone talking, and according to his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, White just as engaged in the discourse as the rest of us.
“People now come into the show thinking it needs to be about hotel employees getting stepped on by rich people every season,” White said. “Then there’s the criticism that the show has become the thing it was supposed to satirize. At this point, people want The White Lotus to be different things.”
Some things about the show were different, White, producer David Bernad, casting director Meredith Tucker, the cast, and more revealed to THR ahead of the season’s April 6 finale.
Woody Harrelson was the first choice to play Walton Goggins’ part.
Bernad explained that “everyone is treated the same” on the show as as far as billing (which is alphabetical) and pay, which ended up being a problem for one would-be Lotus star. THR reported that multiple sources say Woody Harrelson was the original choice to play Rick opposite Aimee Lou Wood’s Chelsea—until he saw how much he’d be paid. According to those sources, Harrelson even tried meeting with David Zaslav to renegotiate his salary, but was a no-go. Other sources told the publication that series regulars make around $40,000 an episode. Walton Goggins took on the role, after he was originally slated to play “one of these bald guys we pepper the thing with,” according to White. “Walton’s not exactly that. He’s a bit more handsome, he has hair,” so the role they landed on for Goggins made sense, he added.
Patrick Schwarzenegger almost didn’t get the job on account of his nepo baby status.
The oldest son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver nearly lost out on the role of the oldest Ratliff brother Saxon, Bernad said. “Patrick Schwarzenegger’s last name worked against him, by the way. We didn’t want to cast him because of that.” Schwarzenegger has opined that people think he was handed his role because of “who his dad is,” telling The Sunday Times that he works on his characters “for hours” and took “10 years of acting classes.” At least in this case, his famous parents nearly cost him the opportunity. Ultimately, Bernad said, “He was just so good,” that they chose him for the role.
White didn’t want to cast Blackpink’s Lisa either.
The K-Pop star at the center of the show was almost deemed too famous (in Thailand) to get her role. All White heard was that “There was a Blackpink girl [Jennie Kim] in The Idol, and I was like, ‘We’re not doing that,‘” he told THR. Before that, he said, “I did not know who Lisa or Blackpink was.” After he said no, however, Lisa’s reps offered for her to audition. “Her audition was amazing,” White said, “and Lisa’s so nice and uncomplicated, but I still didn’t want to cast her. I’m just used to not having so much attention; we don’t need it.” But I wanted to be respectful to Thailand. She’s like Taylor Swift meets Princess Diana there.” White added, “When we cast her, there were people in the production that cried.” He was glad it was a “nice part” that didn’t show the star “running around sleeping with married men.”
by Anonymous | reply 336 | April 2, 2025 11:47 PM |
Some actors backed out once they learned about that storyline.
The incest scenes between the Ratliff brothers were apparently enough to dissuade at least some actors. “For that stuff with the brothers, we had to tell people beforehand,” Tucker said. She said her team asked the actors, “‘There is going to be some same-sex kissing and stuff. Are you comfortable with that?‘” and the answer wasn’t always yes. “I think maybe one kid for Sam [Nivola]’s role dropped out,” she continued, “but some of these kids were barely 18, so I could understand.” Bernad said that when they sent the scripts to Nivola and Schwarzenegger, “We were anxious... We both were like ‘I hope they don’t drop out.‘” Nivola added, “When they sent me my contract, it was like, ‘You have to be comfortable with sexually explicit scenes or whatever,’ and I was like, ‘Sure, yeah, I’ve never really done anything like that on camera—first time for everything.’ But I was not expecting that!”
They wouldn’t let Sam Rockwell say no to his big cameo.
“He passed at first,” Bernad said. “Sam is a perfectionist, and the window to do the job was very tight—two or three weeks and then this giant monologue.” Rockwell explained, “To be honest, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to pull this off,” since he was already shooting Gore Verbinski’s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die in South Africa and “the monologue... was a lot.” White and Bernad had a little help with the convincing, as Rockwell’s longtime partner Leslie Bibb plays Kate in the series. “I just said, ‘If he doesn’t do it, you can’t be mad at me,‘” Bibb told the site. Though Rockwell worried he wouldn’t “have enough time to prep and get into the headspace of this character,” Bernad said, “We just didn’t let him pass. We were like, ‘Great, so when are you coming?‘”
The role of Chloe was recast—and now we know why.
Posh troublemaker Chloe was originally going to be played by the Thai actress Francesca Corney, but Tucker confirmed earlier reports about why she was ultimately replaced by the French-Canadian Charlotte Le Bon. “Had we seen people in person for these roles, we would’ve realized the original Chloe was quite petite and just going to play too young. The part was reconceived for Charlotte.” Corney filmed for several weeks before the role was re-tooled.
Parker Posey first realized she’d be on the show at Jennifer Coolidge’s Halloween Party.
It was after an exchange with White at Coolidge’s party that Posey was “struck” with the feeling she might get a part on The White Lotus. Posey told THR she was “alone at a cheese table at one the morning, wondering, ‘Should I have some more cheese?‘” when she saw White. “Mike was one foot out the door, and he’s like, ‘Hi, I just want to say you’re doing such great work lately. Blah blah blah. Bye!‘” Afterward, she thought, “Maybe I’m going to be part of White Lotus. My friends were like, ‘Of course you are.‘”
Jon Gries was deadly serious about keeping his role under wraps until the season premiere.
“He was so committed to keeping it a secret,” Bernad said. “There was no press release for him, no premiere, no photos. At one point, we were going from Phuket to Bangkok, which is like a 12-hour drive, and he drove in a car with the equipment just to avoid being spotted with us at an airport.” Whenever people asked what he was going out of town to film, Gries said, “I told people I was going to the Philippines to film a new TV show for a European network.” He added, “I’m using this as a platform to apologize to everybody that I’ve lied to.”
Ultimately, White expressed his hope that all the changes will culminate in a “satisfying” finale for fans and “stick the landing.” He explained, “My hope is that it’ll feel like a cathartic sad or a satisfying sad and not a ‘What the f---?’ sad.”
But at least one of the actors is worried about the fan reaction to the finale. “People are going to hate Mike White,” Le Bon predicted.

r367 it's not just the music over the credits, it's all the music in every episode, which has been a huge part of the show. The music has been extremely important in keeping a sense of tension going. Plus I think you're wrong about most people skipping over the credits - the credits (and the change in music this season) have been a huge talking point. I'd say that the composer's score has been very nearly as important as anything to the success of The White Lotus.

The artwork used in the second season's credits was on the walls of the palace Daphne and Harper stayed in overnight in Sicily.

Chelsea will get caught in the crosshairs and get killed when the men come for Rick
by Anonymous | reply 379 | April 3, 2025 6:23 PM |
[quote]But at least one of the actors is worried about the fan reaction to the finale. “People are going to hate Mike White,” Le Bon predicted.
Yup, as others have said, definitely sounds like Chelsea is going to die especially coming from the actress who worked with Aimee. Also another actor slipped the names of two people who would live.
The only other nice characters people would care about are Belinda and Piper but Chelsea is very much loved by viewers and not considered boring.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | April 3, 2025 7:19 PM |
Maybe both Rick and Chelsea dies- Rick tries to save her, but gets shot also, falls into the lagoon.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | April 3, 2025 7:24 PM |
Part of me feels like "People are going to hate Mike White" could also mean NOBODY dies. If the "death" has been a fake-out the entire time I could see people being pissed. We don't ever actully see a dead body - just something floating in the water!
by Anonymous | reply 382 | April 3, 2025 7:30 PM |
Because who gets killed can be so off the wall in The White Lotus, I’m thinking Frank might be the one who dies. Sritala will call the police to evict Rick from the hotel and Frank will be collateral damage as the shooting breaks out. That’ll teach him to fall off the wagon.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | April 3, 2025 7:37 PM |
[quote]Part of me feels like "People are going to hate Mike White" could also mean NOBODY dies.
At 48 seconds into the finale promo, you can see them wheeling a body out. So, someone dies.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | April 3, 2025 7:41 PM |
The statements by the actors in interviews are clear that one or more people die.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | April 3, 2025 7:56 PM |
I don’t know, does anyone really care who dies? I mean, I know it was a big deal when Tanya died in S2 but wasn’t it played more for comedy? It’s not like there was pathos.
The death isn’t typically…felt. That’s why I doubt it’s Chelsea. That would be kind of sad. It’s more likely to be kind of funny and the characters will move on rather quickly from it. The only impact it will have on them is self-centred, “it could’ve been me.”
by Anonymous | reply 386 | April 3, 2025 8:06 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 417 | April 4, 2025 3:51 PM |
Rick is an enormously self-indulgent dickhead. I can say that because he and I have very similar backstories—eerily so. One of my parents was killed while doing”do-gooder” work. My surviving parent basically abandoned the kids.
Anyway, you suck it up and shut it down. It’s the only way. I’m angry about a lot of things these days, but I don’t wallow in self-pity about things that happened 40 years ago.
Rick apparently has money. He has ride-or-die friends. He has a woman who truly loves him. But all he can do is ruminate on shit that happened 40 years ago.

r414 Yeah, I saw them bitching about it on Reddit when the composer quit, saying Mike White must be the one to blame because he's also anti-trans for appearing on that podcast. Knew it was only a matter of time, they'd been suspiciously quiet since that Sam Rockwell monologue everyone (except them) found hysterical.
Also, that sub is beyond saving, most of their content last year wasn't even celeb gossip, but just posts about celebs making comments about Gaza. They'll never learn that the zeitgeist has shifted, they're the worst of the worst of the terminally online leftie slacktivism.

[quote] Other than her friends telling Laurie she's dissatisfied with her life is there any indication in the storytelling/performance that Laurie is dissatisfied with her life? I'm really not getting that about the character, who seems to me very confident and content.
Really? She seems notably insecure to me. I feel DLers are conflating their love of Carrie Coon with Laurie.
In terms of the group dynamic she is the beta. She not as tall, not as pretty, not as popular, and as a hard nosed lawyer is not as feminine as her girlfriends. She “has” to make money from her brain, or her looks, like the other women. And is punished by having to pay alimony to her ex husband for doing so. She ran off crying on the first night. She is exhibiting prime pick-me characteristics by whipping off her top for attention at the pool after boring everyone senseless whining about her career. And she is behaving like a rebellious teenager on her gap year by sneaking off to fuck a random Russian who she knows has a girlfriend, after she criticised Jaclyn for being unfaithful.
And she’s choosing to remain friends with women who make her feel bad.
These are archetypal characters. Remember Miranda from SATC? She was slim, intelligent, successful and sexually liberated. She also very clearly felt like the ugly duckling, was embittered, jealous and judgemental.

I agree Laurie is the beta, but that's more because she's falling back into old patterns with the trio than she would naturally be the beta. The other two get by on their looks, whereas she's forged a career from her brains.
Sometimes when you're caught in a toxic long-term friendship you just have to have the strength to leave it, because you cannot keep letting old dynamics drag you down. These three women are just too critical of one another to have a healthy friendship anymore. They hold each other in contempt, and once that enters either a sexual relationship or an intense former friendship, the relationship has to end. You cannot be with people who hold you in contempt.

[quote] I agree Laurie is the beta, but that's more because she's falling back into old patterns with the trio than she would naturally be the beta. The other two get by on their looks, whereas she's forged a career from her brains.
Laurie is a beta because she hasn’t decentered trying to fight her friends for male attention using her looks and sexuality when her reality is that she attracts men via her financial status. Jaclyn and Kate attract men via the social capital that their looks provide; Kate by submitting and acting maternal, Jaclyn by commanding (no coincidence she has a younger husband).
Of course Jaclyn and Kate aren’t unintelligent, and Laurie isn’t unattractive, but Laurie doesn’t have that social capital. Jaclyn does and Valentin played hard to get with her, and it’s no coincidence that the night ended with Valentin fucking Jaclyn in her 5 star hotel room because she’s a powerful celebrity. He negged her into her allowing him to luxuriate in her wealth and luxury and body. Alexsei was fucked by Laurie in her dingy apartment with her hunching away on him, because he allowed her access to his body to get access to her money.
A strong and confident woman wouldn’t mind that Jaclyn is needling her to get laid and wouldn’t feel betrayed by Valentin not choosing her. So when DLers say how strong and confident Laurie is I wonder what show they’re watching.
White Lotus is modern social satire like Thackeray or Austen so interpersonal play needs to examined through that “narrow” lens. This season is far too long and there is not quite enough plot to fill it up, but Mike White’s writing is as sharp as ever.

Isn't Jaclyn covering the expense of this getaway for all 3 of them - or at least the cost of the WL suite? That would tend to establish her de facto alpha status power dynamic. With Laurie coming off as somewhat of a less than supplicant ingrate, even as she merely tries to hold her own.

Yes, even if not intentionally. I've seen flashes of DJTJ in his expressions from the start. Especially in that cramped, squared-off smile that he gives. Which unfortunately for him, might also be something that's physically imposed.

I think what's insufferable and annoying is hearing her dissect this shallowly drawn character like she's Lady Macbeth.
For me, so much of what she says she's doing with Laurie is subtext, barely coming through onscreen. If the series was better and bolder this season, maybe there'd be room for that kind of subtlety, but I find her character mostly just ordinary and uninteresting.

Now, I will be utterly shocked if Rick, Frank, and Chelsea don’t all end up dead.
While the Ratliffs stole the show, this season is really about Rick. His inability to overcome his obsession with revenge took over his whole life, blinding him to his good fortune.
This is a tragedy on a grander scale than Duke Dad’s “I’m just another shady finance bro” story. We’ll likely see that tragedy play out on an equally grand scale— the deaths of two favorite characters (Frank and Chelsea.)
Rick appears to be a lucky guy except for his very unhappy childhood. Granted, that’s very difficult to overcome. But what would the Darfur Orphan ™️ have to say about that?
by Anonymous | reply 491 | April 5, 2025 6:05 PM |
[quote] Yeah, and I also just realised that Mike probably wouldn't kill off a local. At least that's been the case in the previous two seasons.
He sent one to prison for armed robbery, assault and kidnapping.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | April 5, 2025 6:08 PM |
And he was hot local, too!
by Anonymous | reply 493 | April 5, 2025 7:11 PM |
R483. That April Fool’s article was dispensed with days ago. Keep up.
by Anonymous | reply 494 | April 5, 2025 7:43 PM |
R491. When last we saw Rick he had an air of serenity and contentment ….and he was not doing blow or fucking.
by Anonymous | reply 495 | April 5, 2025 7:45 PM |
Why would Frank go to The White Lotus? Their little operation is over.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | April 5, 2025 8:10 PM |
In the last episode, I think Pam will finally crack when someone uses their phone in the dining area. "No phones!" she screams, before running to the guard station. She knocks out Gaitok, steals the gun and begins firing indiscriminately at anyone holding a phone or even near a phone. Chelsea, calling Rick for the 20th time, catches a bullet. Tim gets shot right after his lawyer tells him he's taken care of his situation and everything will be fine.
Roll credits. See you in season four.

I think Fabian goes on a rampage over how unappreciated his performance was.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | April 5, 2025 9:22 PM |
While I don’t care for Parker Posey’s performance as Victoria, I am very happy that she is getting so much attention and acclaim. I hope it leads to more and bigger roles for her.
by Anonymous | reply 499 | April 5, 2025 9:40 PM |
I think Fabian will be revealed to have been one of the Hitler clones from The Boys from Brazil all grown up. Hitler had aspirations of being a nightclub singer, you know,

R466 In that interview Coons says that Laurie is alcoholic, and not taking responsibility for her actions, followed by,
"And one of the questions we ask in AA and ALANON is - What is my part?. And she is not asking that question."
Sounds like she has some personal familiarity with Alcoholics Anonymous's methodologies.

by Anonymous | reply 503 | April 6, 2025 12:17 AM |
r502 Both she and Letts have spoken about doing AA, etc, before
by Anonymous | reply 504 | April 6, 2025 12:42 AM |
Yeah, that tracks. Coon has the gruff demeanor of an alkie.
by Anonymous | reply 505 | April 6, 2025 1:11 AM |
Coon said on Marc Maron’s podcast that she’s been sober for five years and Letts has been sober for, I think, twenty. She started out at AlAnon but shifted to AA when she chose sobriety.
by Anonymous | reply 506 | April 6, 2025 4:25 AM |
She did a great job as acting like a hardy partier. Real life experience.
by Anonymous | reply 507 | April 6, 2025 4:30 AM |
Actually, Coon says her drinking problem happened while she was being a stay-at-home mom during Covid and was bored out of her mind, so she started drinking.

One more episode and then it's on to the long awaited season two of The Last of Us. Pedro Pascal, swoon.
by Anonymous | reply 509 | April 6, 2025 5:02 AM |
R509 I love Pedro, but not a fan of the zombie genre. Based on the description of their affliction, I'm just assuming I wouldn't have the stomach for it. And so I haven't even watched the bottle episode with Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman

The actor playing Gaitok was apparently too ripped when he got cast, so Mike told him to stop working out for a couple of months in order to get a physique more suited to his character. Sucks for us!
Anyway, today might be the very last time we hear those delightful woo-woos and ooh-loo-loos, so treasure every single one of them when you hear them. Same for anything that comes out of Victoria's mouth.

by Anonymous | reply 531 | April 6, 2025 3:28 PM |
You know White Lotus loves a shocking twist. Someone who barely speaks will be the one floating, and we’ll all be screaming, “Who is this?!”
It’ll be the quiet one sitting in the corner with a drink, watching everyone else implode. At the end, they’ll just be like, “I’m just here for the free food, honey.” They always survive.

by Anonymous | reply 533 | April 6, 2025 4:25 PM |
I think there will be several deaths.
Greg/Gary will have Pornchai kill Belinda.
Lochlan is the body in the water.
Saxon retrieves his phone and discovers his father is in trouble. He’s the one who decides to use the deadly fruit to kill Tim and Victoria, and then himself.

It's weird to me that it's almost universally agreed this has been a disappointing season for the show, yet this has been far and away the most popular of the seasons.
My guess is it has to do with escapism during a particularly stressful period in people's lives.

by Anonymous | reply 565 | April 7, 2025 12:11 AM |
This season is more popular because both the characters and the actors are better in total than the previous seasons, even though the characters don't do much. I think Mike White is seeing the feedback that a lot of people felt the season was too boring and so he will make improvements for the next season.
