The 3 friends. How in the hell are they still friends after all these years, they act like they can’t stand each other. Or trust each other. And I really hope Parker Posey’s character gets shot.

I kind of hope the three blondes end up involved in the final shooting incident, just because they seem the least likely to be of all the characters. Everyone's expecting Greg and Belinda, or the Ratliffs, or even rick to be involved in the gun vioklence.

Came here to fangirl over Aimee Lou. Stayed to comment on the brother dynamic. The actor says that the motivation was Lachlan's need to get his brother's approval and to somehow connect with him. If that's the motivation, then I will be deeply disappointed. I have been looking forward to the moment that the little brother reveals his true character as manipulative and shockingly corrupted. Yup, and I take it from them having to "update" each other on each other's lives initially, they only see and talk to each other occasionally.
I would not be shocked if they end this with a massive fight and then plan a vacation next year to catch up because that's what those kinds of groups do. They are toxic but their shared past always keeps them together.

[quote] Patrick Schwarzenegger Won’t Watch the Rest of ‘White Lotus’ With His Family Because It Gets Too ‘Bonkers’
Even though Patrick Schwarzenegger’s family watched previous episodes of “The White Lotus” together, the actor said he’ll skip the group watch for the last few episodes of Season 3.
The actor, whose parents are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, said he could handle his family seeing his first-ever nude scene, but what’s coming up on the Max series is even more “bonkers.”
When asked if he’d excuse himself from the room during certain scenes, he replied, “I’ll definitely take a bathroom break. The last episodes are crazy.”
He didn’t get into specifics, but the previous two episodes featured spoiled rich character Saxon sharing a drug-fueled kiss with his younger brother Lochlan (Sam Nivola) which led to an incestuous threesome with Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) — one that both brothers claim they can’t remember.
When asked to elaborate on what happens after that, Schwarzenegger merely said, “It’s bonkers. It gets bonkers.”

They may be getting a lot of press for the series now, but it'll be all forgotten in a few months and their careers won't be improved by it.

There's a thing about friendship, particularly long-lasting ones. At any point, your close friends are going to tend to be people who are actively in your life. Many (most?) people tend to live in changing circumstances, such as moving, changing jobs (or coming out as gay!). We make new friends; old friends fade out of your life, but many friends might retain the friend status through the years. You accumulate old friends, some of whom at one time would have been your best friends.
But people change and grow-apart. You may cherish your old friends primarily because of what they meant to you. When you visit with these friends, the interactions are going to based on your established relationship mixed with the people you have become. And people's lives are big and complicated. You're you, playing what you remember as a version of you, and you see in them a version of who they used to be. But you're not the same people who were once close friends.

I have secret relatives revealed on both sides of my family. I bet a lot of you have skeletons in your closets that you might not even know about. My dad has a secret half-brother somewhere who was whisked away into adoption when my grandfather convinced his pregnant secretary to temporarily move to Atlanta and then give the baby up for adoption in order to save his marriage with my grandmother. It all came out anyway and then he divorced my grandmother and married the secretary anyway and had two daughters with her. I don’t think my half-aunts (one of whom is only two years older than me) know they have a full brother out there somewhere. I always check my 23andMe email alert for new relatives to see if he pops up. I love to cause drama so I would immediately reach out and invite him to the next big family function.
It’s all very WASP.

And there is the real world reason. The actors also need to watch their weight, when you are filming a long scene you are going to have something that you feel okay with taking bites of when needed as you can do many takes of the scene. A light low calorie food, not some croissant.

They've established on the show that the White Lotus resorts around the world are run differently from location to location, and that this one is more oriented towards being healthy, so it makes sense the Hawaii and Sicily locations would have richer and more sinful options for breakfast, while this one would just have fruit.

The relationship the women have with each other is both normal and toxic. Hell, many gay men have groups like this too. I have a friend that used to fuck every guy I liked. I still think of him as a friend because we've been friends for 20+ years. I, however, no longer tell him anything about my life outside of the 1 to 2 times a year I see him. I learned.
However, one of the themes of this season is "karma," (along with spirituality and death) like this season's poster said, "Karma comes for everyone."
Laurie said it early on and then reiterated it again, the thing that Jacklyn did with Valentin she has done before. Everything the woman are doing and have gone through they've likely done before. One was even called out on doing the thing she used to do when they were younger.
There's something weird that can happen when you get around old friends from school: you immediately fall back into those old roles. The players in your lives may change but the social hierarchy doesn't. However, with these women, instead of breaking the "karmic cycle" they just do the same thing over and over again every time they get together. They would be better off being apart but they just can't let go of their old entanglements. They maybe even secretly love it. However, that doesn't mean it's good for their mental health or that it reflects every relationship they have with other women.

I've only observed this discussion from afar up until now but I find it very telling, the way detractors of same-sex sibling incest often resort to personal attacks, as if knowing deep down they have no actual arguments against it beyond the (very subjective) icky sensation in their gut. They aren't even able to recognise that their own personal position wasn't arrived at through argument in the first place, but has always been there as a result of a very specific cultural context they were brought up in.
Love that Mike White is tackling this subject matter, I've never once encountered a good argument against it beyond "it's wrong because it feels wrong to me and I personally would never do it." It sometimes feels like the Enlightenment never happened when you're arguing with these people.

R89 it actually has nothing do to with “same sex”, it has to do with being siblings. If all teen siblings are hooking up on the down low and feel good about it, I am happy to be in the minority of people who never did that and wouldn’t. Gross.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | March 27, 2025 11:47 AM |
Nope, the same-sex bit is actually crucial because it takes away the main solid argument against it – the possibility of offspring.

No, it's a borderline-inconsequential event, and presumably added to the plot solely to make it clearer to the audience – via a form of visual cue – that the brothers weren't merely "imagining things" while rolling on molly. Both Saxon, as well as the audience, immediately clocked something was "off" from that aspect alone, thus prompting his subsequent flashbacks.
Also, please spare us your incest fetish. It's cringe.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | March 27, 2025 6:05 PM |

Base on the amount of thinly disguised incest porn online, I think an incest fetish is not unusual. Of course they are usually “step-fathers” and “step-brothers” in porn, but I think that’s just to make it seem acceptable.

[quote]I need to rewatch the opening. It's the son of the Hawaiian masseuse, the one who wanted to open a spa with Tanya, her son saying be careful, my mom's out there? Then someone is randomly shooting everywhere but are they a mass shooter?
I rewatched the opener last week. It at least infers that Zion had only just arrived, but upon rewatch you can tell that's not the case. The only thing we can see is Zion having a meditation session with the woman who's also been helping Rick and his tortured thoughts. You can't even tell which day it takes place. To break it down: Zion first hears a couple of distant sounds that seemed to be gunfire, but then 10 seconds later the gunshots have gotten significantly closer. Finally they see various people running – all impossible to ID – and several gun shots hit the meditation pavilion. All we know is that it takes place in the middle of the day, and there appears to be Gaitak or Pornchai (or another employee in a khaki uniform) floating face-down in the water (Zion jumped into a shallow lagoon of some sort).
[quote]R89, do you seriously believe that Mike White's take away from this will be that it's all good? There's no way the brothers walk away from this in good shape in the end.
I agree with you, but OTOH the brothers' fairly brief incest moment may very well be overshadowed by Piper or one of their parents getting shot. The entire Ratliff family is a walking tragedy; it's only a question of how bad it gets. (But yes, I suspect the first thing we'll see on the next show is Lachlan's "HOLY FUCK" realization at the monastery; we only saw the first bit.)

[quote]That makes sense, except what could he possibly need Saxon to do? He's surely got a staff of his own goons in Thailand.
True, but we still have no idea what Greg's master plan is here. For all we know it could have something to do with whatever shit Timothy's gotten himself into back in the States. Or maybe Greg needs someone "unassuming" – like, say, a friendly looking and hot American finance bro, and also clearly affluent (for now) – to do something for him at the hotel.
Or it could just be that he's a jealous asshole and planning to kill Saxon for fucking his wife. (He may not know that Lochlan was the one who banged his wife, and it's possible the only "action" Saxon got was the handjob from his brother, *not* Chloe.)
[quote]I think it’s just a plot contrivance to get everyone together.
Actually, what I suspect may be the contrivance here is placing both Piper & Lochlan well outside of both the hotel's vicinity as well as Greg's house – meaning it's conceivable either he or another villain could break in and hold one or both hostage. (What I'm also wondering is if Lochlan being gone from the hotel for two nights in the row – the previous night being spent on the S.S. Incest – is somehow relevant.)
[quote]Of course he has cameras on board his luxury yacht!
Not sure if you've ever been on a large yacht, but this would be extremely weird in the real world. Nobody puts cameras in staterooms / bedrooms, and what possible reason could there be for having them in a yacht's living areas? All "real" yachts (at least 100 feet long) have a full-time crew, with at least one person on board 24/7, plus obviously marinas have their own security systems. Finally, Greg presumably has a dock near his extremely lavish house, and it's safe to assume it has cameras or an alarm system of some sort.
And c'mon: Greg may be mysterious, but he's definitely no idiot, and he knows full well that a former escort he "picked up" in Dubai isn't the type to be faithful. He also has eyes and met the Ratliff boys, and even if he's straight, he could've immediately clocked that Chloe might hook up with one or both of them.
[quote]I have seen no indication that Chloe told Greg about Saxon and Lochlan hooking up.
Same. This is a significant stretch: I think the core problem is Greg assuming *Saxon* fucked Chloe, not Lochlan, and is either jealous about it (though he didn't seem like it) or suspects Saxon is morally ambiguous – good call if so – and possibly willing to participate in his plan, particularly since Rick's conveniently MIA in Bangkok for a second night as well.

Greg wants to use saxon for something because he knows Saxon’s not a morally upright guy if he sleeps with someone else’s girlfriend. Greg’s got something shady planned and he needs someone like saxon to be involved.

[quote]Okay well that would be disappointing. In an interview posted yesterday he says that the "rest of the episodes are bonkers", but is not specific.
They've been saying THE ENTIRE FUCKING SEASON that it was "by fire the best to date" because "Mike had SO much more time to write this time around. Also that it would "only get better & better" as the season progressed. Instead it's merely gotten more & more "meh," brief incest storyline notwithstanding.

[quote]I don’t find it necessary to call John Gries’s character anything but Greg (which is the character’s real name).
I don't think it's that big of a deal to call him GreGary or Gary. Only one person on the series knows he is Greg. To everyone else he's Gary. Unless Belinda is in a scene with him, all the other characters will call him Gary and even she might still call him Gary since she wouldn't want to piss him off.
[quote](He may not know that Lochlan was the one who banged his wife, and it's possible the only "action" Saxon got was the handjob from his brother, *not* Chloe.)
This is tricky. When Greg/Gary asks which brother she slept with, she doesn't tell him.
But when Chloe is talking to Saxon, she claims she told him that it was Saxon that slept with her.
She doesn't tell Saxon he wants to see *both* brothers until the end of their conversation when she throws in, "Bring your brother!" She makes it sound like he only wants to see Saxon.
However, both brothers actually slept with her. We saw Saxon start off making out with Chloe. He also says he fucked her and she doesn't deny it, it's just later Lachlan did too while giving him a hand job.
She does seem to be protecting Lachlan.
[quote]He also has eyes and met the Ratliff boys, and even if he's straight, he could've immediately clocked that Chloe might hook up with one or both of them.
Exactly, all he needs to know is that she left the doc with some men and Chelsea while everyone else was gone. He knows what kind of person Chloe is.

Least: -wannabe Buddhist daughter, because she meditates and feels God - the 3 blonde frau - the mousey tooth one, gf of actor Gibbous, some weird name, has a hairline like Jack Nicholson - the Quebec hooker - the hotel dancer/worker in love with the guard - the spa lady, Zion's mom -suicidal dad (too obvious) - the guy who wants revenge for never knowing his father ( too obvious) - Greg/Gary whatever ( too obvious) -the mysterious owner and his wife -( they probably don't do anything because why would you shoot up your own resort?)
Suspects and motives: - the younger brother of the weird Duke fam, Lochlan? (He's just psycho) -the older brother (same reason) -the guard in love with the hotel lady ( she dies somehow and he goes berserk defending her- why else would they show these people and build up a storyline?)** - sam Rockwell - He's crazy enough to do it, though it doesn't make sense, he is crazy. - The Southern mom with a pill problem (the 90s it girl)- something about not wanting to live anymore if she didn't have any money
Primary suspects: someone in the Duke family or the hotel guard

I was just saying this. They should have negotiated to get her in the opening credits. She has a huge role.
Originally Francesca Corney was hired to play the role. However, after she made it to Thailand, and was hanging out with the cast Mike let her go and hired Le Bon. The official word is that the original actress looked too young to be with Jon Gries, so they wanted someone older. Strangely she would have been less creepy with Lachlan.
Some people speculated that hiring her would have also played into stereotypes about Thailand (as a sex worker) that they didn't necessarily want to touch. Le Bon's people may have been so happy to get her on the show so quickly they didn't want to push it but they really should have.
Here are the original Chloe and Chelsea.

Belinda is a guest this season, and she's not white. Neither is her son Zion, who is also a guest.
Last season, Ethan was played by Will Sharpe, who is Eurasian. And his wife Harper was Puerto Rican, and was the actress who played her, Aubrey Plaza.

R198 I liked Best in Show, though not my favorite Parker Posey performance. But I love the story that the director Christopher Guest tells - one quirk of her character and her husband's in the movie is that they are both described as adults with braces. Parker showed up for the first day of the shoot with a full mouth of actual braces. Commitment to the role.

Carrie Coon said the temperature while they were there was frequently above 110F, and very humid, so it's something of a miracle that they don't appear more sweaty than they do - even indoors as they need to turn off the AC while shooting. That does seem remarkable. I assumed Rick and Greg's clammy exteriors were wholly intentional.

To all the carb freaks; The servings of fruit, the three girlfriends are eating are loaded with just as much sugar as a normal serving of flour pancakes/ croissants, etc. The fruit however is healthier, because they are whole foods, that contain fiber, which slows down the digestion/ absorption of its sugar. Therefore, lower spikes of insulin... enough.

r207, unless it's filmed in a studio built for filming (a lot of tv series are shot in studios and it gets so cold that the crew are wearing puffer jackets), a/c units on location are too noisy to record sound for sound continuity purposes (we also turn off heating, phones, PA connections).. If we film in a practical kitchen, we have to turn off refrigerators and freezers as well. Unless we know if there is a long set up between takes (20 min or more), a/c won't be turned on because it takes a bit for it to gear up and to close down.

Finally! I've been WANTING to see some commentary on the weather, if only because Thailand has specific seasons when you should definitely *not* go. It varies depending on the region, but Koh Samui's in the Gulf of Thailand, and its peak season (mostly dry & mild, at least by Thai terms) is Dec-Feb. March thru May are hot & sticky – think South Florida in August, but worse – and the rainy season is June-August. OTOH the *worst* time to go is monsoon season (Sept-Nov), which is the rainy season on steroids, and they wrapped last August barely in the nick of time.
I've been curious if this shoot was an unusually miserable one – the Med is hot AF in the summer, but that's still way better than monsoon season – and it sounds like it was to some extent. (But OTOH the entire cast was housed in $2,000/night hotel villas for six months, so I doubt they were that stressed.)

This is standard for location shoots in general btw, but yes, I'm surprised no one's developed something akin to the same noise-cancellation headphones or AirPods in common use – "tuned" more or less to ignore / not record whatever sound frequency the A/C units are on.

And finally: no, Lochlan wasn't "hot" for Saxon, and it in no way helps him as a character. (But he MIGHT be kinda-sorta-possibly bi.)
----------------
Where do you think Lochlan falls in terms of his own sexuality?
I think he doesn't know. I had a long conversation with Mike before we started. I knew I needed to ask him a few questions, but the main one that I wanted to know was "where does Lochlan wind up at the end of this season?" Is the nature of The White Lotus that everyone leaves different than when they came in? Everyone changes and everyone grows for better or for worse?” And he was like, "No, that would be a totally reductive view of what humanity is and the way people react to real life things. Of course, some people change and some people are open to change and some people don't, and that's just how it is."
I don't think Lochlan really does change. Without revealing exactly what happens, I think that Lochlan comes to The White Lotus completely lost and he leaves completely lost. He is not really any bit more clear about his life than he was when he came in. I think that applies to his sexuality, sure. I think he doesn't know whether he likes guys or girls or both or whatever. I think the same goes for everything in his life, too. UNC, Duke—he just does not know. Maybe he has a little bit of closure in the fact that he sort of recognizes and knows that he does not know by the end. But that’s the most he gets.

How can someone “not know” whether he likes boys or girls? For most people that’s pretty automatic. I suppose he can not know if he will ever act on any same sex attraction that he may feel, but the attraction is either there or it isn’t there. It’s no mystery.

I won't pretend to understand it, either, but quite a few people claim they didn't realize their actual sexual orientation until high school or beyond. I can see why this might be the case either in extreme conservative families that still think being gay is a "lifestyle choice," or if a closeted kid grows up in any sort of repressive environment, but just as a reminder, even our real-life VP "wondered if he might be gay" at around Lochlan's age.

It was a bit more serious in Season 1, but more fun in Season 2--which probably saved it from cancellation.
The show started out with more of a focus on Louisa Jacobson's, Marian character and Christine Baranski's, Agnes character but has shifted more towards Bertha and George Russell played by Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector. She's the most interesting character on the show who is always up to something! So I don't think that change will be reversed.
It's a step above a soap opera and more interesting than Downtown, where for *nearly all of the characters the historical drama is pretty frivolous, so it's not a heavy struggle to watch.
*Except for the black character Peggy, who goes through some kind of time frame relevant fresh hell every season with the support of her mom played by wonderful Audra McDonald!
However, Carrie really helps carry the show. She does a wonderful job on it and at this point she's the main draw.

I've still got a number of questions about how Quentin and crew originally intended for Tonya to die, before things took a turn. Niccolo had rope, duct tape and a gun in his duffle, but what was he planning after getting her into the tender back to the hotel? I'm assuming they would want her body to be found, but without any signs of foul play. Was Niccolo going to push her overboard and hold her underwater til she drowned? If they were to weigh her body down, and hope it was never recovered, what would be the story as to how she disappeared? As simply a missing person, it would hinder Greg's ability to make the insurance claims or execute her will. And what about all her and Portia's luggage? If that wasn't going with her, it would've made Tonya even more suspicious. The way things worked out, was actually quite fortuitous for Greg.

There's been a lot of discussions on social media as to why Streisand's memoir is so prominently featured in this episode (many characters are seen reading books, but the camera angles block out the front and back covers, so there's no way of knowing what they're reading - except Jaclyn fully displaying Barbra's cover). Some idiots on Barbra's Facebook 'fan page' are suggesting this will hint that Barbra makes a surprise appearance in the last episode !
Here's how I see it. IRL, Streisand has said for years she's been the subject of gossip and lies since she started in Hollywood 60 years ago. She never could understand why reporters would make up stories about her when, as she always said, 'the truth is far more interesting!'. She promised she would release her memoir some day, and push the lies and gossip aside, and tell the truth about her life. She released the book in November, 2023 - and that's the book the character Jaclyn (the popular TV actress from LA) is reading by the pool.
A few minutes later, we see Jaclyn had a bit of a meltdown in her hotel room, when she confronts her friend and tells her she can't believe the two of them were gossiping behind her back, and didn't believe her when she told them the truth about Valentin visiting her room the night before. Their 'gossip' was more entertaining than the truth, and they didn't believe her -and this hurt her. If her two besties aren't on her side, who is ? She declared she was surrounded by gossip and lies every day of her life in LA, so she tried to escape it going to Thailand with 'her two best friends'...and they're as bad as the people she left behind.
It was a moving scene, nicely juxtaposed with her previous scene reading Barbra's memoir, which foreshadowed her melt-down.

You people keep going on and on about friendships. Friendship in adulthood isn’t the same as friendship as a kid or teen.
A friend in adulthood is when you can go months without seeing one another and talking via text or phone here and there but when you do get together you just pick up where you left off.
No one in their 40s is seeing their lifelong friends daily or hanging out all the time. That doesn’t mean they aren’t friends.

Amanda Peet was originally cast as Bertha in The Gilded Age but dropped out due to Covid messing with her schedule. She was co-producing The Chair for Netflix and decided she had to go do that, I think she would have been far more effective than Coon. Her beauty and ice queen haughtiness would have served the soap opera aspect of TGA very well.
I do agree with the poster upthread who suggested Coon would have been a better Sinatra in Paradise than Julianne Nicholson, good as she was. I’m not sure Coon woukd have done it even if she was available because the character’s dead child storyline sort of echoed the one she played in The Leftovers.

I am a huge Carrie Coon fan and think she's having fun on Gilded Age but now that somebody's said it I think I agree that she was kind of miscast. She's far too earthy and relatable a type - the role could've used some haughtiness that doesn't really come naturally to her. Her and Morgan Spector do have really hot chemistry though, I hope they lean into that more. That show needs more sex. Or at least Morgan naked. Him and Claybourne Elder should have a steam room fling.

The covers have been visible and sleuths figured out what they were right away. This article puts it all together, mentioning the books reads by Victoria, Lochlan, Chelsea, Laurie, and Belinda, and some that may or may have been seen.

Couldn't disagree more, the haughtiness belongs to the likes of Mrs. Astor and Agnes van Rhijn. Coon plays a nouveau riche type of character, so earthy and relatable is perfect for her. There needs to be some contrast between these two groups of people, otherwise what's the point. And it's not like she's playing Bertha like a country yokel either, she's a pretty normal person who often loses her temper in private.

R287 How? There are later in life lesbians who said that they were once attracted to men and then over time that attraction completely disappeared. You have women who claimed to be lesbians and being repulsed by men only to later in life discover that they are actually bisexual. I'm sure there are men like that out there as well.

All that these rich tourists do when they come to another country is hang out at the resort. We mostly see them hanging by the pool or eating at talking in the restaurant. What's the point of traveling halfway around the world just to hang at the pool. They could have done that back home. Why not explore the cities, the nature, the local culture?

I wonder the same thing about people who go on cruises in the Caribbean or to Mexico, or from Athens to the Greeks islands. For their shore excursions, they want go to the local beaches. They could do that back in the U.S., by going to Florida or even to Lake Michigan. I pick excursions that focus on the local culture and history. I'm not going to pay to travel thousands of miles away just to go to a beach or lounge at a resort.

It's just weird to me how time changes.. Parker Posey was a young it girl and now just a few decades later. She's acting like a '60s woman, like the Bewitched mother or Auntie Mame.
I know everyone gets old and kind of mellows out but like, do they subconsciously start acting like the people who were old when they were young? I guess it's better than trying to hold on to the youth. Just say f it and start acting like a much older person, whatever your concept of that is.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | March 29, 2025 10:49 PM |
Well, Parker is playing a character, after all. And very much a type that was popular in 1960s sitcoms and TV movies.

It would be more realistic for many of the wealthy characters to carry Kindles (especially the ones like Jaclyn carrying ridiculously heavy tomes with them, or the ones who are wealthy but seem to read a lot who would want multiple books available to them, like Aubrey Plaza's Harper last season), but it really is fun to see what they're reading.
I would assume some of the characters ONLY read when they're staying in luxury resorts, like Shane the first season or Saxon this season. (We've of course yet to see Saxon with a book.)

I literally know some rich people who use Kindles and (especially) iPads so they can carry multiple books with them, and not "self-published action novels and erotica."
it's not just paying extra for heavy or excess baggage that they object to; it's the inconvenience of carrying a huge tome (like Barbra's) with you around the resort. So much easier to slip an iPad into your bag while walking down to the beach, and plus you have hundreds of other books available if you get bored with the one you're reading. And, if you're by the pool, you can usually use it to read the news or surf the Internet.

Unlike music and movies/tv, books via devices hasn’t taken over. Only around 25% of books are read via E-reader or tablet/phone. The majority still buy physical books. Barnes and Nobel are OPENING more stores because book sales are so high again.

And Rick has the best person in the world for him, and he won't even pick up the phone or spend time with her. He also seems to have forgotten what he did to the hotel owner ... while his she's still in the same hotel.

I know it sets up the rest of the episode for the two characters but Chelsea would NEVER have bothered to take the time to explain to Saxon why she had feelings for Rick.

The body in the water was a person with short, dark hair and wearing a white or light colored collared shirt.
So… Timothy, Rick, Saxon, Gaitok, the other guard (but we don’t know him so we don’t care), maaaybe Fabian (unlikely, his shirts are different), Valentin, are all possibilities.
Likely Scenario: Gaitok confronts Valentin and friends about the robbery, Gaitok tries to ‘be a man’ like Mook suggested, there’s a shootout, some of them are killed. Gaitok in dead water.
Possibility: Big Jim’s bodyguards shoot and kill Rick. But, there was a lot of gunfire, more likely it was someone returning fire (like Gaitok in the above scenario).
Left field- Timothy drank the poison smoothie to kill himself and fell in the water, wasn’t shot.

Mike White always lulls you into liking somebody and then loves to undercut it, showing their weaknesses and dumb human behavior - so yeah I love Chelsea, she is sweet and funny, but the girl has bad bad instincts about Rick and I'm afraid it's going to come to haunt her. I’ve figured out the theme of the season: Nothing happening.
There’s some kind of big set-up; everyone has theories for what big, dramatic moment is going to happen, perhaps we even get the dream/fantasy fake-out, but in the end nothing much happens. The end.
by Anonymous | reply 468 | March 31, 2025 3:36 AM |

[quote]That whole "I'm going to rescue this poor broken man" thing is never good
She's this season's Albie who seemed to be attracted to pretty "wounded birds."
[quote]The part I have trouble with is her letting Saxon into her hotel room.
She's into poor broken men who are suffering that she can heal -- and Saxon fits the bill and it's only going to get worse.
After this episode, Rick no longer does and she'll find that out soon enough.
She let him in because she was into the idea of him asking for help and her saving him. Then he pushed too hard and she kicked him out. However, I do think she felt something.

Lochy didn’t like the food. Why would he want to stay for a year?
by Anonymous | reply 483 | March 31, 2025 4:05 AM |
I didn't understand why there was so much air time for the eating scene at the mediation place, especially on Lochlan and his ill-mannered eating. Then I see that his sister was thinking how awful it would be to see him eat like that every night if he were to stay there with her.
by Anonymous | reply 484 | March 31, 2025 4:06 AM |
[quote]Lochy didn’t like the food. Why would he want to stay for a year?
Sam explained that Lochlan is very insecure and first tried to get in good with his brother and now that he thinks he as hurt his chances with that, he wants to attach himself to his sister. He doesn't really care about the place.

I also was hoping more for this episode. For example, we still haven't had a scene where Saxson and Lochlan talk to each other after the night on the yacht.
Rick is setting himself up to be killed by the Thai lady's bodyguards.
The father's murder fantasies make me think that he won't succeed at anything.
The Belinda storyline is a bit of a snooze. Nothing happened at Greg/Gary's party.
Laurie is a sad Karen.

No one cares that you think you are so smart that you have to bash the show. You actually look DUMB and not SMART. I imagine the complainers are big queens who are upset their is not more cock. Lots of bald-faced lies fast-firing in this episode, except for our three monkeys finally airing out their grievances. The only seemingly honest one was surprisingly independent Trumper Kate, of all the characters; is she two-faced or straddling a fine-line between asshole friends fighting?
Aside from the obvious ruse that totally fell apart (to upcoming ruin?), Chelsea did not know all about Rick's dark-side in her coyness with Saxon (who lied to get closer); she had to coax the reason why they were in Thailand out of Rick earlier in the season. I really doubt Greg told Chloe all of his fantasies, and instead she is terrified for her life making a concoction to take the heat off of herself. Or maybe Greg really is a freak, who knows? Again, I don't get the comments that the episode was slow. You got so much answered with more questions to ask.
As per the Kindle argument, lots of book reading in this episode, too. Apparently Chloe travels with a suitcase full of them, and Lochlan starts his conversion on page 1.

R478 it’s about tone. It’s about expressions. He did a great job. You seem to think an actor needs to be melodramatic and scream and cry and throw things to be good.
Patrick played it TRUE and well.
Go watch a CW show. That’s more in line with what you like.
by Anonymous | reply 508 | March 31, 2025 6:36 AM |
R484 you never understand anything. Not everything is to be “understood”. The scene was barely 2 minutes long btw.
This is a show for grown ups. It’s out of your element
by Anonymous | reply 509 | March 31, 2025 6:39 AM |
R483 you couldn’t understand why based on the dialogue??!
It was clearly because he wants to be with his sister. He’s attaching himself to her. He says “I thought you’d be happy”. It has nothing to do with the place and all to do with her. He also wants to keep away from home because he feels he ruined his relationship with his brother (which he did).
by Anonymous | reply 510 | March 31, 2025 6:41 AM |
R500 the irony is the complainers don’t realize they’re exposing the fact the show is too smart for them. Shit is constantly having to be explained to them.
I saw someone on tiktok speak about people complaining about this show being too “slow” etc. and how it isn’t slow at all and they’re just not used to show made for ADULTS anymore. This isn’t a show catering to youth and they don’t get it. This is a smart and mature series that doesn’t tell you what it’s saying straight out, you have to be able to read between the lines and view the subtext etc.
That poster did the same thing last season btw. Every week crying and bitching and needing everything explained to them while also claiming they were so above the show. A joke of a human.

R508 nope, I do not think an actor needs to be melodramatic and scream and cry and throw things to be good. Not at all. Plenty of great actors get the point across with just looks or tone.
Patrick was fine. Not great or bad. But, he didn’t do anything special. We got that he was weirded out by Chloe’s request by the scrunching of his face and confused and slightly disturbed looks, but it was all pretty basic.
His reactions to the sexual encounter with his brother last week was the best acting he’s done on the show.
Are you his acting coach? Or his mom?

Here's the problem- the creative spark hits, and Mike White writes season 1. He's lucky enough to still have it for season 2.
For season 3, there was clearly no spark. He wrote it because he was contracted to write it for money. And usually when you just do something for money without that initial spark, it's not good.
So yes, a writers room with Mike as head writer would be a good idea. This season, while I enjoy it, has been sloppy.

I think this is what happens when something is beloved, a huge hit, and yet….is bad.
Everyone knows it’s bad.
But because people have affection for everyone involved and the memory of better times, the fans defend it to the core.
It also has the best ratings of any season.
Too many storylines with no follow through.
Too many ideas that went no where.

I don't think it's bad. But sloppy. I still enjoy it.

The White Lotus needs its own Bunny Schneiderman character next season. Bunny and 2 bitchy friends can be like the 3 Karens.

Lochlan looked fug in this episode, except when shirtless.
I'm loving the 3 friends catty-ness. Friends don't always get along, and have resentments. Jaclyn was in her right to fuck Valentin. Who wouldn't? They're on vacation. Laurie was smart to get with hot Alexei! She didn't know he's sketchy. She should've had a 3 way with Valentin.
I want Gaitok to fuck me.
Fuck-Valentin
Marry- Gaitok
Kill- Saxon

Jaclyn was in the wrong. 100%. Not only did she fuck the guy she kept pushing her best friend on, she cheated on the guy she allegedly loves. She’s a piece of shit.
Laurie has every right to be mad. She’s not mad at the guys. She’s mad that Laurie always does stupid shit like that and I would be mad too

Piper isn’t going to stay, she got spooked as soon as her mom allowed her to spend one night and then make a decision. There are so many scenarios going on as to who gets killed in the finale, the Russians, the hotels security and bodyguards, Tim and Greg Gary. Good chance it will be more than one body.
by Anonymous | reply 547 | March 31, 2025 1:23 PM |
People are shitting on Mook for telling Gaitok what type of a man she likes, as if it's not Gaitok who's pursued her relentlessly. She's not obligated to change what she's attracted to just because this one guy happened to be persistent enough to finally score a date. Having said that, can I have him?
Loved the costuming for the dinner – Jaclyn in bright blue, Kate in blue and red, and Laurie in dark red.
Missed opportunity to show Aleksei's toosh, but I understand the reasoning behind it – Laurie running away with her bare butt like some common floozy landed that much harder. Plus, he had to wear a hard-on prosthetic, so his Russian girlfriend could slap it. I'll allow it, but only this one time!

Rick’s “my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!” subplot, now that is has fully launched, is sort of cringe, no?
Of the three female friend archetypes : Laurie as “the smart one” is realizing she makes dumb emotionally-fueled choices; Katie as “the nice one” is being exposed as treacherous; which leaves, Jacklyn “the hot one”, who is clearly fine with being the bad guy of the group (so long as it means she’s still the main character), and whose final act reckoning will likely be about having lost her “hot one” currency.

Sam Rockwell is bringing alot to the final episodes. I think he's one of those actors that's incapable of giving a bad performance. Patrick was very good last night. I actually felt bad for him during the talk with his father. And Parker Posey is a hoot.

I kind of think Trumper Kate will be the one of the three to really lose it—she’s been trapped between those two for decades. She’s not blameless, of course, gossiping about each of them to the other one, but she is convinced she has this perfect, normal life (true or not) and Jaclyn and Laurie just go around doing whatever they want (in her mind). It wouldn’t be surprising if she and her “cunty bob” snap.

[quote] a lot of this episode felt like it was teeing things up.
I love the show but I don't feel super teed up. Belinda is teed up with a big decision. Gaitok figured out something very important. I don't know about the rest... The three girlfriends haven't done anything they couldn't fix together. Walton Goggins concluded his goal. The Ratliffs did fuck all though Piper might want to tell Lochlan to go home. Calm before storm. I feel like this is like the ocean receding before a tsunami.

After teasing Fabian's singing all season long, it basically transpired off screen. And that, my friends, constitutes poor writing.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | March 31, 2025 3:08 PM |
I heard an interview recently with Mike White. He mentioned several times how obsessed he was with Sweeney Todd. In the show, Sweeney slits the throat of the beggar woman who he then recognizes as his long lost wife. I’m wondering if Mike is setting up a similar situation here. Rick kills Scott Glen only to find out as he’s dying that. Glenn is his father.
by Anonymous | reply 579 | March 31, 2025 3:10 PM |
The fact that Greg/Gary has thrown two big parties in three days seems a bit ridiculous, since he just sits sullenly by himself at these extravagant gatherings looking like he can't wait until it's over, hates everyone, and wants to go to bed. Maybe he's doing it to satisfy Chloe, but he isn't exactly a people-pleaser so not sure that fits either.
And yes ^ what was the deal with cutting away from Fabian and forgetting all about his big debut? I wondered if that was the joke, that he's been hyping it for days and no one paid attention past the first few notes?

[quote] I wondered if that was the joke, that he's been hyping it for days and no one paid attention past the first few notes?
Yes that was the joke, and I cackled at it - when Carrie Coon IMMEDIATELY starts talking after two seconds of it - it was just another little jab at the priviledged little bubbles these assholes exist in. I thought it was hysterical in its meanness

[quote] teasing Fabian's singing
But no one cares. It's important to him but not to the other characters. He wasn't about to backflip off a piano. I thought that was the point. The 3 girlfriends almost immediately lost interest in his music. Sritala couldn't be less interested in Fabain's performance aspirations either.
Greg/Gary wants to be cucked. I have no issue with him throwing parties every night where he just sits around and watches. He's a Loser Back Home.

[quote]Jaclyn was in her right to fuck Valentin. Who wouldn't? They're on vacation. Laurie was smart to get with hot Alexei! She didn't know he's sketchy. She should've had a 3 way with Valentin.
Jacklyn cheated on her husband. Slept with Valentin and then pretended as if she didn't even when spotted, gaslighting Laurie---and then we find out she's done something like this at least two other times to Laurie.
Laurie was dumb for getting with Alexei, she knew about his girlfriend.
Jacklyn was right, however, if Laurie doesn't like her life she should change it. In other words: if she keeps having issues with her friends then she should find new ones, if she isn't getting promoted at her job, then she should find another.
[quote]People! Watch the opening credits and the illustrations as each name comes up. All you need to know is there if you pay attention.
I'm hoping that this is wrong, although I know that it's right to some extent.
They added a Scott Glenn card (a tiger looking at a group of fawns) and it coincides with what's happening in Chelsea's title card (a fawn being eaten by a tiger) which implies that maybe whatever Rick did (or didn't do) to that guy, will lead to Chelsea's death. I'm still shocked he didn't immediately go back to the hotel to get her and take her home as if the man's wife isn't running it.

If I were Belinda I’d have said, “I’m not looking to rile up the past, but my business plan called for a $300,000 investment from Tanya and I know she’d want the project to succeed.”
She has no moral obligation to alert the police. Why the agonizing?
by Anonymous | reply 588 | March 31, 2025 3:47 PM |
Wouldn't Rick call Chelsea and tell her to move another hotel?
by Anonymous | reply 589 | March 31, 2025 3:53 PM |
I wonder if it is Sritala who sends Jim’s bodyguards after Rick because he lied to her about casting her in a movie. That pissed her off and she wants revenge! She wanted to be a star again, dammit!
And he pushed over her husband. I guess that merits a death sentence 🤷🏻
by Anonymous | reply 590 | March 31, 2025 3:55 PM |
I hope Chelsea doesn’t die, she’s been the one really likable character this season. She does say that her fate is tied to Rick, or they’re soulmates, or whatnot, so perhaps they both die together.

It's not about monogamy, it's about Jaclyn boasting to her friends earlier this season about how addicted she and her new young husband are to each other and how they just can't get enough of fucking each other. The cheating is the least problematic part. Well, maybe not for MAGA Kate, who seems to have much more of an issue with that aspect than Laurie does.
