Can someone explain Matt Damon?

Why is he a movie star?

by Anonymousreply 93April 26, 2025 5:58 PM

He looks like the guy in high school who would give you a blow job when your girlfriend wouldn't put out.

by Anonymousreply 1March 2, 2025 2:54 PM

His womanly ass!

by Anonymousreply 2March 2, 2025 3:02 PM

I'm a fan. He's a very good actor who is handsome enough in a totally non-threatening way. He keeps it real, never going big unless the part calls for it. I can't off the top of my head think of a bad performance in a 25+ year career (although there may be a couple).

by Anonymousreply 3March 2, 2025 3:11 PM

He’s just so bland.

by Anonymousreply 4March 2, 2025 3:11 PM

His ugly is only skin deep OP.

by Anonymousreply 5March 2, 2025 3:15 PM

When he was younger, he was sexy in that tough Irish-American kid way. That got him roles, and then people could see he could really act. Now he's no longer so attractive, but he can still act well.

by Anonymousreply 6March 2, 2025 3:16 PM

He was very cute in a Leo boy next door way...and his career is still going OK on past merits. He's non threateningly handsome (actually, movie stars are rarely model handsome; they get a gig where the part calls for an exceptionally handsome guy. The Bourne series helped him; and he needed to look like an everyman for those to work; especially the first one. He seems like a nice guy off screen to; you could have a pint with him; probably followed by a green tea.

by Anonymousreply 7March 2, 2025 3:20 PM

OK? It’s more than OK. He’s going to star in Christopher Nolan’s next film. He just kind of disappeared in Oppenheimer. I don’t get why anyone would want to build a movie around him.

by Anonymousreply 8March 2, 2025 3:23 PM

[quote] tough Irish-American kid way.

Although I think he’s of Scandinavian descent.

by Anonymousreply 9March 2, 2025 3:28 PM

He was cancelled during MeToo for saying there’s a difference between rape and sexual harassment and the punishments should fit the crimes.

by Anonymousreply 10March 2, 2025 3:32 PM

Why did we adopt him?

by Anonymousreply 11March 2, 2025 3:39 PM

Womenly ass and hips can do wonders.

by Anonymousreply 12March 2, 2025 3:39 PM

[quote] Leo boy next door

by Anonymousreply 13March 2, 2025 3:39 PM

As far as a tough Irish-American kid, both Ben and Matt “faked the funk”. That was their image. That they were like the guys in “Good Will Hunting” and were rough kids from South Boston who made it big.

They were really affluent theater kids from Cambridge.

Whereas Mark Wahlberg is actually real life Boston trash. Poor, uneducated white family from the city who thinks they’re racially superior to their neighbors cause they’re white despite facing the same economic/ substance abuse / criminal struggles.

by Anonymousreply 14March 2, 2025 3:39 PM

Matt Damon is an excellent schmoozer. He is naturally very charming and easy with the press, effortlessly so. So I imagine he plays the same notes on directors and executives.

by Anonymousreply 15March 2, 2025 3:51 PM

[quote] His womanly ass!

[quote] Womenly ass and hips can do wonders.

Is this accurate?

[quote] I can't off the top of my head think of a bad performance in a 25+ year career (although there may be a couple).

I can’t think of a memorable performance since Good Will Hunting.

He’s always Matt Damon to me.

by Anonymousreply 18March 2, 2025 5:19 PM

Hunting wills.

by Anonymousreply 19March 2, 2025 8:23 PM

You fags wouldn't get it.

by Anonymousreply 20March 2, 2025 8:29 PM

People like zoos.

by Anonymousreply 21March 2, 2025 9:29 PM

Big budget movies require at least one bankable white male mayonaise-flavored screen presence.

by Anonymousreply 22March 2, 2025 9:55 PM

He likes Buffalo wings.

FAGS.

by Anonymousreply 24March 3, 2025 2:44 AM

I didn't dislike him in The Martian.

by Anonymousreply 25March 3, 2025 3:09 AM

Maaaaaat Daaaaaamon.

He’s handsome and he’s a good actor.

Yes he behaves idiotically about homosexuality, but many closeted/in-denial men do.

by Anonymousreply 27March 3, 2025 5:44 PM

Quite a few years ago there used to be a rumor on DL that Matt kept a Cuban guy in a condo in Miami during the time rabbit-faced wife and him lived there.

by Anonymousreply 28March 3, 2025 5:47 PM

“Handsome and good actor” is a description that applies to many people who don’t get so many big roles.

I’m not saying Matt Damon is terrible. But he strikes me as kind of ordinary and inoffensive, not particularly charismatic or impressive as an actor

I just don’t get why people repeatedly cast him at the center of big movies like The Great Wall and The Last Duel and now Ulysses. I guess I just don’t get him as a movie star.

by Anonymousreply 29March 3, 2025 5:59 PM

I’m over him. He talks too much. Faux liberal.

by Anonymousreply 30March 3, 2025 6:56 PM

[quote] The Great Wall

There was nothing great about it!

by Anonymousreply 31March 3, 2025 10:10 PM

He was never good enough for our precious Ben!

by Anonymousreply 32March 4, 2025 2:28 PM

He was terribly miscast in those Bourne movies. I'd be more afraid of Lucille Ball than Jason Bourne.

by Anonymousreply 33March 4, 2025 2:29 PM

[quote] I'd be more afraid of Lucille Ball than Jason Bourne.

You should be.

by Anonymousreply 34March 4, 2025 8:29 PM

Matt Damon is best seen as a series of ones and zeroes

by Anonymousreply 35March 5, 2025 12:35 AM

R36 & r37=Ben Affleck

by Anonymousreply 38March 5, 2025 8:56 AM

There are roles that NEED guys like Matt Damon. I'm not sure why this is hard to understand.

If you mean why he gets so many of this type, it's because that's how Hollywood works. They like casting the same stars rather than spreading the love around to all the "average guy" actors out there because it brings folks to the movies and makes them money. So much of that kind of success is either who you know or getting lucky by being in the right place, right time or a mix of both.

by Anonymousreply 39March 5, 2025 9:26 AM

He was great in the Bourne movies.

by Anonymousreply 40March 5, 2025 9:30 AM

Those bee stung features that made him so cute in his youth are not doing him any favors as he becomes middle aged. Now he looks coarse and bloated.

by Anonymousreply 41March 5, 2025 1:36 PM

The fags love me

by Anonymousreply 42March 5, 2025 6:50 PM

I love Matt Damon. On Talk shows he is always entertaining, he gives great interviews, and really knows how to have a conversation. He's smart and he's a damned good actor.

by Anonymousreply 43March 5, 2025 7:23 PM

R43 = Matt’s mom.

by Anonymousreply 44March 5, 2025 7:50 PM

Of course he’s smart. He’s a Harvard man.

by Anonymousreply 45March 5, 2025 9:15 PM

There are very few actors who can do an authentic Boston accent, and he’s one. So thank God for him in movies like The Departed when Nicholson’s try at the accent makes me want to stick pins in my ears.

by Anonymousreply 46March 5, 2025 9:24 PM

There was a time in the early 2000s when I had a Matt Damon obsession. The Good Will Gunting Days. He had such boyish looks.- still does to some degree

by Anonymousreply 47March 5, 2025 10:00 PM

R43 I like Matt too. He is just a likeable dude. Hes pretty competent actor too, much better than his bestie, whom I also like. With that being said, when they first hit the scene Matt pinged to high heavens to me.

by Anonymousreply 48March 6, 2025 12:23 AM

I'm from Dahchestah!

FIFY.

by Anonymousreply 50March 6, 2025 12:28 AM

Mark Wahlberg was a thug lol. Fucking trashy ass Boston sexy white fuck.

by Anonymousreply 51March 6, 2025 12:32 AM

This has to be one of the funniest awards show skits I'm seen. it is based on the long standing, faux feud between Matt and Kimmel....

I love that the Matt Damon “fags” troll has posted at least 3 times in this thread, apparently begging for attention. Isn’t he absolutely hilarious? Never gets old. I laugh until I cry.

by Anonymousreply 65March 8, 2025 11:48 PM

He's FAT!

by Anonymousreply 66April 22, 2025 8:55 PM

I think he's the same as Amy Adams. Just a normal looking, slightly attractive person. Very easy to cast.

by Anonymousreply 67April 22, 2025 8:59 PM

His performances are always very “high school drama club” to me.

by Anonymousreply 68April 22, 2025 9:07 PM

The only time I ever found him hot was as Scott Thorson in "Behind the Candelabra" where he was really well built and, in a tiny Speedo, stood astride Michael Douglas (as Liberace), who was lounging on a poolside chair.

by Anonymousreply 69April 22, 2025 9:11 PM

[quote] Of course he’s smart. He’s a Harvard man.

Sort of. He never actually finished his degree.

by Anonymousreply 70April 22, 2025 9:12 PM

I think he's a movie star because he has starred in huge movies, not because of some obvious "it factor." And it's not like he's terrible looking. He was passably cute in his prime and has an every man quality. Familiarity lead to him being bankable, thus more roles in big projects, and thus movie star.

by Anonymousreply 71April 22, 2025 9:22 PM

[quote] The only time I ever found him hot was as Scott Thorson in "Behind the Candelabra" where he was really well built

That was pretty much all makeup and CGI to give him that body. They had to make him appear less wide and with more defined musculature including giving him a six pack. His pecs were probably his only natural and accurately-represented body feature.

by Anonymousreply 72April 22, 2025 9:50 PM

Iga' s bad luck year continues- her first opponent at Madrid is Eala.

by Anonymousreply 73April 22, 2025 10:29 PM

Bibi is back!

by Anonymousreply 74April 22, 2025 10:29 PM

He is neither cute or sexy……very pedestrian looking….seems like a nice guy but I don’t find him interesting at all!

by Anonymousreply 75April 22, 2025 10:35 PM

He has a cute face and a sexy body depending on how he builds his body for hi roles. He can look flabby.

by Anonymousreply 76April 22, 2025 10:45 PM

His roles.

by Anonymousreply 77April 22, 2025 10:45 PM

R73, will Matt be at Madrid to watch Iga play?

by Anonymousreply 78April 22, 2025 11:26 PM

R72, plus he was twenty years too old for that role. He’d have made a better Liberace. Michael Douglas was terrible.

by Anonymousreply 79April 23, 2025 11:18 AM

If OP has to even ask the question he’s a fag.

by Anonymousreply 80April 23, 2025 11:31 AM

I thought Michael Douglas was great as Liberace.

by Anonymousreply 81April 23, 2025 9:45 PM

[quote] I thought Michael Douglas was great as Liberace.

Matt Damon played someone much younger than his age, while Douglas' wife is simply much younger.

by Anonymousreply 82April 24, 2025 3:43 AM

He's fine. Nothing more, nothing less.

by Anonymousreply 83April 24, 2025 3:46 AM

R81, get off of Datalounge, Michael!

by Anonymousreply 84April 24, 2025 1:31 PM

Watch The Instigators on Apple TV. He can be hilarious. I really like him. But it isn't sexual. He's sort of an Everyman type like Spencer Tracy or Gene Hackman.

by Anonymousreply 85April 24, 2025 2:26 PM

His action movies made him popular with the bros, him marrying a homely, single mom bartender nobody made him popular with the females.

Because of that, he's become quite bankable and that's all Hollywood cares about. Ben, on the other hand...

by Anonymousreply 86April 24, 2025 2:55 PM

[quote] a homely, single rabbit-faced mom bartender

Fixed that.

by Anonymousreply 87April 24, 2025 3:54 PM

R85 he is nothing like Tracy or Hackman- they were real actors. He is a cuddly kind of handsome. But his comments about gays, and black women are out of place, and you add that to his Hollywood fake liberal attitude, it makes him undesirable to watch. Just like Marky Mark and his new found faith. I can never watch an actor that I have no personal respect for. Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kevin Hart- too ugly inside to care about the outside.

by Anonymousreply 88April 24, 2025 5:26 PM

I can’t stand Hart either r88. He would be the type to make a buddy movie with Damon, where he could shuck and jive to his heart’s content.

by Anonymousreply 89April 24, 2025 7:32 PM

R88 what did he say about black women? I missed that.

by Anonymousreply 90April 25, 2025 12:51 AM

Wow! All of you are so young if you don't remember Matt Damon's past work. I would have thought that this place was an online nursing home the way you all hiss about everything (hospice care for some of you).

by Anonymousreply 91April 25, 2025 1:13 AM

We remember.

by Anonymousreply 92April 26, 2025 5:36 PM
