If they were worn at his true waist, 36 would make sense. Most of us do not wear our pants at our true waist, rather we wear them below our bellies. Your real waist is right at or just below your belly button.

Matt Damon is in his fifties not forties, and a 32” is what he probably had in his twenties when he was flat bellied, no way he was ever going to have a waist under 30”; his ribcage was always large and his waist was always flat.

Now, he is not under any obligation to look like anybody else, people have different bodies and there are different reason to get heavier other than eating.

One clear look at him and it’s obvious that he is not a fat person, though he is certainly not skinny any more to consider him fat we’d also have to start calling Tom Cruise fat.
