MSNBC—Part 65

The South finally wins the Civil War on Inauguration day.

Nikki Haley was right, it was all about business.

Trump tipped his hand when he said that the Civil Wart could have been avoided if Slave Owners were paid for their freed slaves.

And they went and bought the Supreme Court. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Breaking News: All The Big Performers at Trump’s Inauguration Events: Carrie Underwood, Village People, Nelly and More.

Also, Lee Greenwood, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flats, Gavin DeGraw, Kid Rock, and Billy Rae Cyrus. Star-studded.

A shift from his 2017 inauguration, which struggled to attract high-profile performers.

And in keeping with his practice of saying Yes to everything, rapper Snoop Dogg is expected to perform at the “Inaugural Crypto Ball".

by Anonymousreply 4January 18, 2025 5:33 AM

All of them are dead to me, but then they were even before the went MAGA rimming orange sphincters.

I wonder if Snoop being a former pimp will hook up the new tech Bros with some "entertainment" they are going to be needing.

by Anonymousreply 5January 18, 2025 7:33 AM

And we could have avoided almost all of our current social problems if Jim Crow and the Klan were appropriately dealt with.

by Anonymousreply 6January 18, 2025 5:57 PM

Glad Alex Witt has abandoned those hideous bangs. Or was it a wiglet?

by Anonymousreply 7January 18, 2025 7:26 PM

Not so fast, Yes the ring will be kissed when and if it expeditious to do so. When Neo team R faction is seen to loose its convenience though the ring will poo popped. I believe it's business that runs the world not team D or R. I see it like this. For example, when Liz Truss, the former U.K. Prime minister got the Ire of The City Of London in 2022 she amongst other important things to the financial class, capped every energy bill for household in the U.K. The investor class was outraged to have their profits limited. The budget office screamed bloody murder and the pound lost 20 percent overnight on threat bonds would not be serviceable.. The Lords, kind of an equivalent, senate type bunch, but appointed by hereditary, not merit or vote, in the England case, revoked her ASAP. She lasted 49 days. Of course thats a parliamentary system but the US system can be accommodated to make sure things work out right for the right people. An American equivalent of Trusses early departure is possible if The orange stain steps off the line too far.

by Anonymousreply 8January 18, 2025 7:52 PM

Gavin DeGraw?? Didn't know he was MAGA, but given that his dad was a prison guard, perhaps I shouldn't be too surprised. That's disappointing as I like his first 3-4 discs.

Or should I say, used to like...

by Anonymousreply 9January 18, 2025 7:59 PM

I still like Gavin DeGraw. He’s forgiven.

Sorry R8, they may be true in the UK but in America, we are full of stupid rubes that have become cult member of Dump. If he said tomorrow that Russia was our enemy and we need to go fight in Ukraine, all the MAGAts would say OK. If he said the price of eggs don't really matter now, OK. If he said we need to embrace all electric vehicles, OK. That's the difference between a cult and people who respond with some minor root in ideology or even just self preservation.

by Anonymousreply 14January 18, 2025 10:31 PM

R13 I remember listening to that anecdote, and thinking Lawrence had been quite gracious in their chance meeting.

by Anonymousreply 15January 19, 2025 1:25 AM

Tump's new $hitcoin makes him billions overnight. Days before he becomes President.

It's like living in some perverse Scrooge McDuck cartoon. Can't wait for the new Great Depression.

by Anonymousreply 16January 19, 2025 1:50 AM

The 2nd Great Depression will be preceded by a pump and dump for The Trump $hit¢oin.

Trump will take all of our money.

by Anonymousreply 17January 19, 2025 1:57 AM

Of course crypto is a scam, but now backed by so many wealthy investors and tech bros that, along with Trump's thumb on the scale, it will become too big to fail. After the current head of the SEC is gone on Monday, the floodgates of corruption are flung open. It's no risk, all reward - for the right players.

by Anonymousreply 18January 19, 2025 2:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 22January 20, 2025 12:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 23January 20, 2025 12:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 24January 20, 2025 12:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 25January 20, 2025 12:16 AM

R16 The release of the $MELANIA meme token, tanks the value of $TRUMP by 40% in 10 minutes.

I guess there's a limit to the bullshit that even MAGA fools will eat.

by Anonymousreply 26January 20, 2025 2:39 AM

So little time left for Biden to issue pardons. Not that they've done anything wrong, I'm hoping he pre-emptively pardons some of the Jan 6 Commission witnesses who are on the Kash Patel retaliations list, to spare them the expense and further MAGA threats of the Trump retribution prosecutions.

by Anonymousreply 31January 20, 2025 12:42 PM

Nicolle Wallace got the memo. She’s wearing black.

by Anonymousreply 32January 20, 2025 9:02 PM

She needs to get rid of that helmet hair though. She should take a hint from Alicia.

by Anonymousreply 33January 20, 2025 9:41 PM

Wearing black and laughing her stupid ass off, R32. Only reason I still watch is for her guests; I mute Wallace's parts of the discussion.

She takes nothing seriously. Nicolle Wallace is laughing while the ship is sinking.

by Anonymousreply 34January 20, 2025 10:05 PM

R34 Has anyone here, other than d-w-n, repeatedly expressed their annoyance with Nicolle's frequent laughter? I get it, there's stuff about on-air personalities that bugs me too. However, I don't think it indicates that her ass is stupid. She's not stupid.

I enjoy the way Nicolle, and Chris, and Alex, tend to laugh, chuckle or smirk, when reporting even serious topics. In a way, it's a sane way of dealing with the ludicrous, hypocritical, and often absurd facts they are relaying.

by Anonymousreply 35January 20, 2025 10:52 PM

I have never found Nicolle’s laugh to be annoying and I have never thought her to be disingenuous. She is polished and knowledgeable, and I never feel as if she’s lecturing her audience. I enjoy her shows especially when Michael Steele is on. I like Alex, too.

Chris Hayes does get on my nerves and I usually change the channel when he’s on.

by Anonymousreply 36January 20, 2025 11:05 PM

Fuck. Can't believe that Biden pardoned the Jan 6th Committee members, along with some of the Capitol Police who testified, and totally overlooked witnesses inside the Trump administration, like Cassidy Hutchinson, who were so instrumental in exposing his movements on that day. That's tragic. They are now seriously in jeopardy, and not in a position to bear the cost of a defense. I hope some orgs step up.

by Anonymousreply 37January 20, 2025 11:22 PM

Agree with R36. I believe there’s Trumper’s on these threads?

by Anonymousreply 38January 20, 2025 11:35 PM

Nicolle Wallace will immediately go back to the Republican Party the minute Trump croaks or finishes his term. There’s nobody she loves more than George Bush.

by Anonymousreply 39January 20, 2025 11:50 PM

Oh, yes, R35 and friends, *I* am the "bad guy" here for pointing out the frivolity of your favorite former-Republican mouthpiece. Remember, too, Wallace was the woman who, with Steve Schmidt, foisted Sarah Palin onto the American landscape.

Get back to me in a year or so after she succumbs to MAGA.

Superficial observation.

by Anonymousreply 72January 23, 2025 1:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 73January 23, 2025 1:53 AM

I am really starting to feel like I live in Germany now just before the war. People on the right are so one sided, so vile, so rude, so hateful, so mean spirited, nothing is sacred to them anymore. Wait until Friday when Dump comes to LA and starts some massive deportation stunt. I am sure Elon will "accidentally" do another one of his salutes.

by Anonymousreply 74January 23, 2025 4:23 AM

Rachel is talking a lot about how unpopular Trump’s pardons are and how making other hopeful noises as if she views it as her mission to “keep hope alive.” Kind of reminds me of the excited build-up to the Mueller Report.

by Anonymousreply 75January 23, 2025 4:31 AM

Kash Patel is a grubby little psychopath. If confirmed, it sounds as if Frank Figliuzzi is recommending career FBI agents who can comfortably do so, to consider making their exit. Combine that with the other woefully unqualified hyper-partisan appointees, and the safety, security, and quality of life in this country are going to nosedive a lot faster than people anticipate. I'm preparing my go bag.

by Anonymousreply 86January 24, 2025 12:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 87January 24, 2025 2:08 AM

Rachel made too big a deal out her the Breaking News about Hegseth and sought to give the impression that it might be important when it was a relatively minor disclosure that is very unlikely to change any votes.

I’m beginning to think she peddles hope the way Fox News peddles fear.

by Anonymousreply 88January 24, 2025 3:47 AM

R88 The thing is it's not just Rachel. Since this came public yesterday, all the reporters and pundits have treated it like a game-changer. When clearly the Repugs don't give a shit, they are not swayed. Maybe Murkowski. Personally, I don't think these allegations matter when compared to the fact that he is just supremely unqualified for the job. Also, that he likes to get wasted when he drinks.

by Anonymousreply 89January 24, 2025 4:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 90January 24, 2025 4:20 AM

Hopefully, Hegseth will get approved, then maybe two weeks into the job....

He'll get hammered in some DC bar, then driving home, he'll speed thru a red light, hit an oncoming vehicle - a vehice driven by either John Roberts or Clarence Thomas - and a lot of our problems will be solved.

by Anonymousreply 91January 24, 2025 6:02 AM

^^^Remember before the election when the media was busy normalizing Trump's antics because his chaos was good for them? While MSNBC is not as guilty as other news outlets, they had to know the honeymoon would end the moment anything unflattering gets published about him. Press freedom was on the ballot last year and we had Trump's first failed term to know how adversarial the relationship was between him and the media. Americans voted against preserving it.

by Anonymousreply 103January 24, 2025 9:57 PM

Katie Phang bringing on James Carville is a bad move. His take on politics is more irrelevant than ever.

by Anonymousreply 104January 24, 2025 10:32 PM

I hope this clears the MSNBC-relevant censors.

I'm still learning the peculiarities of trying to watch MSNBC on Peacock, now that I've paused YouTubeTV after another price hike. It seems you can watch the slate of MSNBC weekday shows from DLWH onward, but only on-demand the following day. I'm not certain what time they become available, after having checked up until 3AM PT. The episodes remain accessible for 3 days.

The two exceptions are Rachel and Morning Joe. For some reason, they make MJ available the same day on-demand. And for Rachel, the show is replaced by a collection of segment clips. Unfortunately, they are not dated, so when possible, it may be better to stream them at NBC News or YouTube, where more info is available.

It may end up being more satisfactory to just stream clips of all these MSNBC shows same-day on NBC News, I'm still experimenting.

You might ask why the hell I'm bothering with Peacock, but at $20 per year vs $85 per month for YTTV, I felt I should give it a try - before possibly reverting to my post-election news fast. Also surprisingly they have first-run films like Conclave and Wild Robot.

by Anonymousreply 105January 25, 2025 12:43 AM

R105 That sounds rather laborious just to watch television.

by Anonymousreply 120January 25, 2025 6:56 PM

Nice to know that President Neck Pussy has enough free time to obsess over cable TV ratings rather than focusing on the needs of the country. I hope the 49.9% of the electorate who voted to fuck over the country are proud of his antics.

by Anonymousreply 121January 25, 2025 8:37 PM

President Mango basically admitted that Elon Musk stole the election. Granted, there’s no proof (as of yet), but I will NEVER stop believing that election was stolen and Mango, as he has done with other matters before, basically told on Elon and himself.

Let’s discuss that!

by Anonymousreply 122January 25, 2025 8:41 PM

R122 I've always thought that if there was credible evidence of election irregularities beyond social media speculation, the best time for it to come out would be after Donald Trump took office. The people with evidence should have spent the entire transition period and the first few months of Trump's presidency putting everything together with a planned release of the findings in mid-to-late 2025. There are two reasons why that timeframe would be the most effective. First, it would delegitimize his claims of a "mandate." Next, the scandal would hang over his entire second term, making it more difficult for him to govern, easier for Democrats to make gains in 2026, if conditions for free and fair elections are still in place, and failing to follow through on the promises (aka 'lies') his agenda called for. History will remember him as an illegitimate leader in addition to being a felon whose disastrous first term ended with an attempted coup he incited.

He'd never voluntarily give up power because he has no shame. His MAGA base will always view him as the second coming, even if he said "I stole the election and you all fell for it." The only way he'd resign is if Republican politicians turn on him, which is highly unlikely considering their record of backtracking and minimizing his actions. We've seen how they handled him after the Access Hollywood tape was released and then going from near universal condemnation on January 6, 2021 to "It wasn't a big deal." Don't expect them to suddenly grow spines and act in the best interests of the country.

Plus, there's no happy ending. A Trump resignation means a J.D. Vance presidency. There's no lesser of two evils, just two evils. America voted to screw itself on November 5th and we all have to live through it.

by Anonymousreply 123January 25, 2025 10:47 PM

But if it could be proven somehow that Trump stole the election and he was forced to resign (not believing any of this will happen, just going with the scenario), shouldn’t JD Vance also have to resign? They were on the same ticket, so if Trump’s win were deemed illegitimate, wouldn’t that apply to him also?

by Anonymousreply 124January 25, 2025 10:58 PM

It's amazing what 1/4 of a Billion dollars from one individual will do to boost your campaign.

by Anonymousreply 125January 26, 2025 12:13 AM

Trump definitely thinks he will be there for the full term, He’s looking forward to the US 250th and World Cup in 2026, and the Olympics in 2028. No mention of World Pride in DC this summer!

by Anonymousreply 126January 26, 2025 12:28 AM

Michael Steele is SPICY this morning…

by Anonymousreply 127January 26, 2025 12:21 PM

Michael Steele should be the Dem nominee in 2028. He knows his shit.

by Anonymousreply 128January 26, 2025 4:25 PM

r126, he will be there. Our only last best chance is with a Democratic Congress, like last time.

At least the history loops are happening sooner.

by Anonymousreply 129January 26, 2025 4:26 PM

Michael Steele is a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 130January 26, 2025 4:30 PM

R130 Steele has said over and over again 'he used to be a Republican'. He left the party when Trump took over in 2016, and is now an Independent. Let him run as the dem nominee (like Sanders wanted to in 2016).

by Anonymousreply 131January 26, 2025 4:34 PM

Not according to his Wikipedia page. In fact he considered a run for the Republican nomination for governor of Maryland in 2021.

by Anonymousreply 132January 26, 2025 4:40 PM

Then he lies to his audience regularly, referring to himself as an Independent. He also says (regularly), "I didn't want to leave the republican party but the republican party left me." (I get so tired of hearing that from both Republicans and Democrats).

by Anonymousreply 133January 26, 2025 4:56 PM

Michael Steele has said he hates Trump and he hates what the modern-day Republican Party has become, but he has never left the party, and I don't think he has even renounced any of his political past, as have some of the other Never Trumpers. Steele still longs for the days of Bush, McCain, Romney, etc.

Here is Michael Steele from October 2024:
DeSanto focused on the 2024 election, remarking to Steele, “You were once chair of the Republican Party in 2010. You wrote a book called Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda, but you have made no bones about it in this race. You support Kamala Harris.” [bold] He asked Steele if he was still a Republican. [/bold]
[bold] Steele said, “Yes, absolutely.” [/bold] He explained how, in 1976, he made “a conscious choice to join a party that was an anathema to many of my friends and family members” because his mother taught him to be a leader, not a follower when it came to things that mattered to him. “I discovered that the Republican Party is the political home for African Americans. This is where we found our political legs, our political voice, and began to become a part of the political leadership of this country.” Steele noted that the first Black members of Congress, first Black senators, and first Black governors were all Republicans, saying that the party was founded on a fundamental principle: individual liberties and rights. “That’s an important value for me. I cannot compromise that.”

I'm with R122. But I think it's too late to do anything about it.

The window was closed Inauguration Day. Anyone who had any power to do anything has since been replaced. And now they are taking steps to systematically erase all evidence on social media. For example, they are in the process of erasing all footage of JS insurrectionists attacking the White House so that Trump's version of "a love fest" will be all that survives many years from now.

by Anonymousreply 136January 26, 2025 6:58 PM

R122 R123 I've heard these suggestions tossed around, and that proof will come to light in late 2025. But no proposed theories on how it was orchestrated. MAGA at least had Italian satellites, Venezuelan software, trash bags full of ballots, and something about Bluetooth devices. What am I missing about the the big 2024 steal?

by Anonymousreply 137January 27, 2025 12:32 AM

R136, they may be scrubbing it from the Internet but hopefully there should always be plenty of footage filmed by the media (ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, etc.) at the event as a public record, so not sure how Trump and his gang will manage to get rid of all of that.

by Anonymousreply 138January 27, 2025 2:32 AM

^^By buying the Media! Have you not been paying attention?????

What part of FACISM do you not understand???

by Anonymousreply 139January 27, 2025 3:02 AM

Ali Vitali already taking vacay days.

by Anonymousreply 140January 27, 2025 9:02 AM

J.D. Vance says the rioters on Jan 6 fall into violent, non-violent groups, and a "small gray zone". Then after they are all pardoned he says each of the 1600 were looked at individually. That means all the pardoned violent convicted rioters ended up in a small gray zone, where they were either "prosecuted under a double standard" or "had their civil rights infringed upon". He wants Americans to know that "no one is an angel, no one is perfect". I feel better about it already.

by Anonymousreply 141January 27, 2025 9:06 AM
He wants Americans to know that "no one is an angel, no one is perfect".

R145, I use to think that until I found out he was married. 🙁

by Anonymousreply 146January 27, 2025 7:15 PM

Richard Painter on with Ari! It's been a long time; always glad to have his insight.

by Anonymousreply 147January 27, 2025 11:04 PM

Is there something amiss with Amy Klobuchar? She seems more than a bit flighty lately, beginning at the inauguration.

by Anonymousreply 148January 28, 2025 2:24 AM

I think she sees the complete horror of Mr. T.

It is fear.

by Anonymousreply 149January 28, 2025 2:28 AM

It's almost like Trump is above politics now. These poltico shows discussing issues like Jack Smith etc have no bearing on Trump. He is too busy making deals with CEOs.

Trump is king! He is untouchable. He signs proclamations and executive orders. Then goes off to Nar la ago to meet with CEOS

by Anonymousreply 150January 28, 2025 2:37 AM

R150, Trump is busy stealing ALL of our money.

The rest is diversion.

by Anonymousreply 151January 28, 2025 2:47 AM

R149- Amy Klobuchar ike every other politician who is not in Trump's circle should be fearful because Trump is going to tear this shit up. If you thought his first term was bad, strap in, buckle up for the horror show to come in the next 4, err 8 years.

by Anonymousreply 152January 28, 2025 4:03 AM

RFK Jr senate confirmation tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. This should be a barrel of laughs.

by Anonymousreply 153January 28, 2025 5:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 154January 28, 2025 7:17 PM

Gretchen WItmer's book tour : She started early on 'Morning Joe' , then made it over to ABC's "The View", and now on "The Reid Out" - and she hasn't changed clothes since. Didn't she bring a change of clothes when she packed her suitcases to visit NY ?

by Anonymousreply 155January 28, 2025 11:07 PM

It's time for MSNBC to do an evening panel show, it's been awhile. There's plenty for them to discuss.

by Anonymousreply 156January 29, 2025 2:03 AM

Rashida's successor is coming from CNN where she, among other things, launched Abby Phillip's panel show.

One of Abby's recent panel discussions.

Hoping Symone Sanders will be on a panel.

by Anonymousreply 159January 29, 2025 5:25 AM

I want Katy Tur and Symone Sanders on a panel fighting with each other.

by Anonymousreply 160January 29, 2025 7:10 AM

Ali Vitali is an access journalist.

Joking about Dump’s Dance.

She is too cutesy, they need to replace this quack.

by Anonymousreply 161January 29, 2025 9:21 AM

I haven't watched recently. So is Lamire fully relieved of his WTE duties? Has he been upgraded on MJ, to possible future co-host?

by Anonymousreply 162January 29, 2025 9:52 AM

Lemire is supposed to host the 4th hour, but Joe & Mika won’t let go!!

by Anonymousreply 163January 29, 2025 10:27 AM

Mika said this morning that she has tried to blame everything on Joe Biden. Republican twat.

by Anonymousreply 164January 29, 2025 1:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 170January 29, 2025 4:32 PM

I adore Richard Painter, and I too have missed him. I remember he has some sort of auto-immune disorder, so I hope he's well.

by Anonymousreply 171January 29, 2025 4:51 PM

What is that annoying "bloop" sound that MSNBC is transmitting from the studio during "DWH" this afternoon?

by Anonymousreply 172January 29, 2025 8:33 PM

Thanks, "MSNBC intern assigned here;" the audio problem described at R172 has been resolved.

by Anonymousreply 173January 29, 2025 9:04 PM

R153. Wow, I had no idea all the utterly crazy shit RFK Jr has said.

by Anonymousreply 174January 29, 2025 9:13 PM

As someone stated at the time of Kennedy's nomination: "Our children's young friends will be dying."

by Anonymousreply 175January 29, 2025 9:24 PM

I don't often watch Rachel's show live, but watching her dissect Kennedy's session tonight, may be worth the loss of sleep.

by Anonymousreply 176January 29, 2025 9:30 PM

Is Ari's tech staff from some private school AV club?

Ari is just blabbering. Is it a teleprompter failure.

Marsha Blackburn needs a kick in her white Supremacist Cunt.

by Anonymousreply 177January 29, 2025 10:08 PM

It seems like all their tech staff is from the High School AV club for the past few weeks - Joy Reid was delayed getting on the air for about ten minutes the other night (Ari had to run over) due to tech issues, The Weekend had tech problems a few weekends ago, I saw Nicole Wallace with tech problems last week...it's been pretty bad.

by Anonymousreply 178January 29, 2025 11:54 PM

They can't afford to pay professional tech staff any more. The ratings are too bad. Plus Rachel's salary.

by Anonymousreply 179January 30, 2025 12:07 AM

Is tonight a RACHEL REPEAT?

by Anonymousreply 180January 30, 2025 1:04 AM

^^I know! That's what I thought!! ...but it did eventually go in a different direction. He hadn't yet been "reelected" first time she told it. Now the story has evolved.

And that story about the cult Tulsi Gabbard's in? Is that supposed to be new information? I posted that story months ago, way before the election.

by Anonymousreply 181January 30, 2025 4:32 AM

I wish Tulsi weren't such a mess. She looks like a fun hang.

by Anonymousreply 182January 30, 2025 9:03 AM

Did Rachel have to throw out her show because of the breaking news plane crash?

by Anonymousreply 183January 30, 2025 10:30 AM

Yes, but at least she didn’t complain about in on air.

by Anonymousreply 184January 30, 2025 2:47 PM

MSNBC, keep sending Peter Alexander to press briefings, he asks the questions the American people would ask.

by Anonymousreply 185January 30, 2025 3:55 PM

r181, I think it is brilliant that Rachel is creating a drumbeat by REPEATING STORIES ON CONTENT.

She is turning herself into her own echo chamber by revisiting stories to connect the dots on Trump evil.

Brilliant, I say, BRILLIANT!

She needs to go back and revisit Russian interference and complicity of the Republican Party for the 2016 election and undo the revisionism on the Mueller Investigation. Now that Bill Barr is gone, she can report on the corruption of Trump's FIRST term.

by Anonymousreply 186January 30, 2025 10:15 PM

TV alert: Jacob Soboroff will be a guest on Stephen Colbert’s show tonight.

Sean Duffy's baptism as Transportation Secretary wasn't a disaster, but it was fun to watch him struggle to find something to say that wasn't covered numerous times already by the other officials. He did namecheck Trump twice so I guess mission accomplished. It must be tough trying to match the new standard set by Pete Buttigieg.

by Anonymousreply 189January 31, 2025 2:07 AM

"I wish the cameras weren't there."

by Anonymousreply 190January 31, 2025 2:11 AM

Sean Duffy still thinks he’s on The Real World: Boston.

by Anonymousreply 191January 31, 2025 5:07 AM

Sean Duffy said absolutely nothing of interest. I didnt realize who he was, I just kept asking why is this guy repeating generic comments others have said hours ago. He seem so proud of it too. Like look mommy I did number 2 all by myself.

by Anonymousreply 192January 31, 2025 5:43 AM

I'm sure his wife, fellow RealWorld alum, and a member of Fox News friends & family, was beaming with pride.

Duffy is still as hot as he was 25+ years ago on RW.

As far as his wife, she has 'auditioned' for The View' a number of times to be the 'republican voice' on the show. Each time she cohosted, there was negative feedback from the viewers, so the producers would tell her 'it's not the right time...'

First time was when Elisabeth left, and they brought Rachel on to cohost. (Walters didn't like her at all, it was reported). Then it was when Rosie O rejoined in 2014 (I believe it was Rosie who said 'no') and they went with Nicolle Wallace. Then it was when Nicolle left the show - and she still didn't get the job (it seems like everyone else did). And finally, when they were looking for a replacement for Jeb - and they went with Meghan instead. By then, I think Rachel became a permanent cohost on the weekend show for FOX.

by Anonymousreply 195January 31, 2025 11:48 AM

Is Alicia still on that Saturday morning show , now that her daddy is incarcerated?

by Anonymousreply 196January 31, 2025 11:55 AM

Nicolle Wallace called Josh Hawley “stupid and amnesiac” today”.

by Anonymousreply 197January 31, 2025 9:45 PM

Retired, and respected by most, former Senator John Danforth, he of the sexy baritone, stated that supporting Josh Hawley was "the worst mistake I ever made in my life". That's coming from someone in his own party. Probably something as a selective amnesiac he is eager to forget.

by Anonymousreply 198February 1, 2025 6:20 AM

Stupidity that is deep and profound.

by Anonymousreply 243February 5, 2025 2:15 AM

Lawrence was absolutely certain Kamala was gonna win! Anyone remember that???

BECAUSE SHE FUCKING DID!! There are SO many examples of election rigging, hacking, all kinds of interference. There weren't just 70 bomb threats, there were over 200 reported - ALL DEMOCRATIC DISTRICTS.

But nobody believes it's possible because the fucking media isn't covering it!!! And now it's too fucking late!

^The wild conspiracists on the far left & far right (today’s mainstream Republican Party), seem to find common cause.

R241, you're right! He's only 28.

Maxwell Alejandro Frost, born on January 17, 1997, comes from a diverse heritage with roots in Puerto Rican, Lebanese, and Haitian ancestry. Adopted at birth by Patrick Frost, a Kansas-born musician-producer, and his wife Maritza Argibay-Frost, a special education teacher who immigrated to the US from Cuba as a child in the 1960s, Maxwell was joined by his sister, María Elizabeth, three years later.

Frost’s love for music surfaced during elementary school, prompting his father to gift him his first drum set. By the time he reached high school, Frost had become a skilled percussionist and band leader of the award-winning salsa band Seguro Que Sí, based at the Osceola County School for the Arts....

At the ACLU, Frost worked tirelessly as an organizer, advocating for the passage of Amendment Four in Florida, a measure that would reinstate voting rights for former felons and championed abortion rights for Floridians...

R244, I totally agree with you and TRUST, many others believe and the list is growing. The problem is that we need some actual proof and receipts and unfortunately, that hasn’t showed up, as of yet. 😉 (staying positive it will)

by Anonymousreply 247February 5, 2025 4:24 AM

To R244 and the "election irregularities" crowd: You had all of the transition period to gather information and start documenting each and every claim with factual evidence. Not a damn thing of any merit was done. If anyone has valid claims of election interference beyond social media conspiracies, share it. Speak up, scream it from the rafters. Yes, Trump is in office, but it isn't too late to tarnish his reputation further, especially if malpractice is uncovered. He's fucking up daily and a real scandal might snap a couple of cult members out of their trance, which would be a good thing.

I know that some might have been surprised by the country electing a hateful bastard whose platform was hate and retribution, but they did. Despite the warnings, they pretty much told non-Trump voters, "Fuck you, I want this." So his presidency is a self-inflicted wound. There are consequences for stupidity and it is on display every day. We didn't do it or approve it, but we have to live with the decision they made for us.

by Anonymousreply 248February 5, 2025 4:38 AM

R247 Because they systematically started destroying the evidence once January 21st arrived. It was there!

The circumstantial evidence still exists, but the proof in the pudding has been digested.

Like in 2020, no election “irregularities” materially affected the 2024 race. I had a strong sense that the historically-underpolled Trump would win when his swing state pre-election poll numbers were better than they had ever been in the two preceding elections.

by Anonymousreply 253February 5, 2025 5:07 AM

Historically under-polled? What if just the opposite is true? What if, all this time, the polls actually were correct, and it was the voting machine tallies that were wrong? Because the mechanisms were corrupted?

Why would so many rather believe that people lied to the exit pollsters about who they voted for, than believe that perhaps the votes were (deliberately) miscounted?

Although there could have been recounts, there weren't.

Many reports of witnessing actually seeing their votes being switched before exiting the booths were ignored? But interesting how it was mostly Democratic voters who reported?

How come the polls have almost always been wrong in favor of the Republicans, more and more, ever since 2000 when computer tabulated voting machines were established?

How come whenever a Democrat proposes a law to audit machines, and really improve our voting systems, Republicans always vote it down??

Just asking questions.
Well Nicolle, as a lifelong Republican operative and strategist, is responsible for this.

Trump was and is not a Republican, he took over the party and the support of most of its rank-and-file members. Wallace hasn't been a Republican since. And she's done more to actively report on the dangers of Trump, and a Trump presidency than any lifelong Democrat. It's stupid people who are responsible for this. A lot of stupid people. The failure is in underestimating the number of stupid people and what they want to hear.
Are plane-related deaths going to be MSNBC's response to Fox's immigrant crime?

What does one have to do with the other, r302? They're exaggerating the immigrant crime numbers and the plane-related deaths since Jan, 20th are factual.

by Anonymousreply 303February 11, 2025 3:08 PM

The plane-related deaths may be factual, but blaming them on anything Trump has done or failed to do is highly speculative. I agree that MSNBC is exploiting them at this point.

by Anonymousreply 304February 11, 2025 3:11 PM

R303, in this era, I believe we have to fight fire with fire. If Fox under Trump was going to lead with every immigrant-related crime, it's understandable that MSNBC would highlight every plane-related death.

by Anonymousreply 305February 11, 2025 3:14 PM

MSNBC has the timeline on its side, r304. There hadn't been a commercial airline crash in 16 years. Again, FOX lies about the amount of immigrant crime. But if you want to keep bothsiding, go ahead.

As dangerous as he is, Elon is coming off to the public like a demented clown. I'm at least as concerned by his PayPal mafia bro, Peter Thiel. He's equally crazy, but stays low and works through his puppet proxies. He owns JD Vance. Even if Trump has one too many Diet Cokes, and finally succumbs to a massive stroke, his replacement will likely be as insidiously bad. Trump is ultimately a pussy, Vance will test the limits and not back off even if there's MAGA disapproval.

I confess that I still can't bring myself to watch MSNBC since the election. I've just started reading the NY Times again, but it's so depressing that I usually can't finish the articles about what tRump and his minions are doing. I feel like I'm going through the seven stages of grief!

I am curious about one thing, though. Joy Reid and a few others on MSNBC were SO adamant that not picking Kamala would be a national disgrace and perhaps even racist after Biden agreed not to run again. Has anyone on MSNBC changed their minds about that? Or is all Joe's fault that she lost?

by Anonymousreply 326February 12, 2025 5:07 PM
The plane-related deaths may be factual, but blaming them on anything Trump has done or failed to do is highly speculative. I agree that MSNBC is exploiting them at this point.

Nice thought, but the majority of voters in this country are completely hostile to facts that they elected a felonious lying fatty orange rapist with the cognitive capacity of a gnat to the highest office in the land PRECISELY BECAUSE they did not like facts. Facts are the enemy to their dopamine hit

Had Harris won and those plane accidents had occurred under her watch, Cheeto would be repeating baseless accusations and Fox would have an hour long nightly report on "HARRIS CRASHES"
‘Morning Joe’ Applauds Elon Musk for ‘Extraordinarily Important’ Press Conference With Trump

“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough gave kudos to Elon Musk on Wednesday, saying it was “good” the head of the Department of Government Efficiency spoke to reporters alongside President Donald Trump the day before.

“Elon Musk getting before reporters, I actually think, as much as possible — since his people are running through these government agencies — I think that is extraordinarily important,” Scarborough said.

The X owner and his DOGE team have been on a cost-cutting spree aimed at a number of government agencies in recent weeks. Musk said he is aiming to cut $1–$2 trillion in annual spending — a goal that represents up to 30% of what the government shelled out in 2024. To reach that goal, he has enlisted a small team of young engineers within DOGE, the new department President Trump put him in charge of.

Among the federal contracts being slashed by DOGE is the $8.2 million Politico has been paid for government subscriptions.

Scarborough on Wednesday said his “chief complaint” with DOGE had been the “lack of transparency” around it. But Musk answering questions from reporters inside the Oval Office earned praise from the veteran MSNBC anchor.

“I do think it’s good Elon Musk went before reporters and answered questions,” he said.

Although, not everyone on “Morning Joe” agreed.

“What happened yesterday was not transparency,” MSNBC analyst John Heilemann argued. “Elon Musk just taking questions from reporters — I’m for it, I’m for it. But that’s not a metric of transparency.”

Heilemann then said Musk made “dozens of totally unsupported claims to justify what he’s doing” and that it looked like he was “filibustering and making stuff up.”

Musk on Tuesday said the “high-level goal” of DOGE was to “restore democracy.” He told reporters — with his son X Æ A-Xii and President Trump nearby — that DOGE’s recent cuts to the federal bureaucracy were critical towards achieving this goal. Musk added the Trump Administration had a mandate from the people to trim the federal government, following his win in the 2024 election.

“If the people cannot vote and have their will be decided by their elected representatives — in the form of the president and the Senate and the House — then we don’t live in a democracy, we live in a bureaucracy,” he noted.

The Tuesday press conference, beyond what Trump and Musk had to say, gained attention because the Associated Press was barred from entering the Oval Office; AP Executive Editor Julie Pace said it was because the outlet had not started calling the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, after President Trump recently signed an executive order changing the gulf’s official government name.

Can President Must run for office after this? Since he's not official elected, wont be surprised if this is next. I still don't trust George Conway. Yes he's smart and maybe a decent tv personality, but I think he's a Grifter. Before he became a Never Trumper, he was a member of the Federalist Society and had a lot to do with the choosing of our current corrupt members of the Supreme Court.

I wish somebody would interview him about his history with the FS and ask if he has any regrets. Then I might start to feel better about him.

Also, NEVER is it mentioned who his ex-wife is, (are they legally divorced, by the way?). Talk about a fucking elephant in the room.

by Anonymousreply 358February 15, 2025 8:09 PM

Conway has a weekly podcast with the Bulwark (along with Sarah Longwell).
Also, NEVER is it mentioned who his ex-wife is, (are they legally divorced, by the way?). Talk about a fucking elephant in the room.

What's to mention ? She's totally irrelevant at this stage of the game. Not even Trump mentions her - she's last week's mashed potatoes, with remnants in the garbage disposal.

by Anonymousreply 361February 15, 2025 10:04 PM

r360, They took the second hour from the MJ Crap Fest Weekly Recap.

The MJ CFWR is now one hour.

The Weekend is now three hours, from 4am to 7am.

by Anonymousreply 362February 15, 2025 11:17 PM

R361 She's now making bank as a ratty-haired lobbyist. Also infrequently mentioned, that Conway was former BFF's with Ann Coulter, represented Paula Jones, and had a Laura Ingraham crush.

But I trust Conway today, he's been virulently and vocally anti-Trump for many years, and a disparager of all things MAGA, including the spineless Repugs (all of them). And produced his own anti-Trump ads comparing him to a disease.

by Anonymousreply 363February 15, 2025 11:46 PM

R361 here. The only thing that might make me mistrust George Conway less is his closeness with his daughter Claudia. She attended the Democratic Convention and was a staunch Kamala supporter.

But if at some point, MSNBC replaces Joe and Mika with George and Kellyanne, or he's paired with his ex on some other network, remember you saw it here first!

by Anonymousreply 364February 16, 2025 12:05 AM

It would be awkward to make a show with DIVORCED George and Smelly Anne. Joe and Mika are still married. Nauseating as it is, no one wants to see a couple hate each other pretending to be nice while deliver the news opinion. Not catty enough to be campy, not news worthy to be actual news.

OT barely but I rewatched the SNL that aired right before the election. In hindsight, during her cameo you can see it in her face that she knew she wasn't going to win. She looks like she wants to break down right on the spot and tell Maya Rudolph she was going to be disappointed that coming Tuesday.

by Anonymousreply 376February 17, 2025 10:17 PM

I am done with Ari Melber. He had fucking James Carville on AGAIN. Now it time to change the channel as I have no desire to watch Joy Reid with Al Sharpton.

by Anonymousreply 377February 17, 2025 11:02 PM

R377, It wouldn’t have bothered me before Carville called Kamala “a seventh string quarterback,” now I’m done with him. Ari has been increasingly on my shit list for blindly following Bill Maher despite his rightward shift. .

by Anonymousreply 379February 18, 2025 4:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 382February 18, 2025 10:36 PM

Rep. Jasmine Crockett is beautiful as well as brilliant; however, she is slowly drifting into the Joy Reid/Symone Sanders "tacky" lane, wearing gaudy costume jewelry and those awful, press-on Fu Manchu fingernails.

Clown garb distracts from your message, and few will take you seriously. Do better, Jasmine.

by Anonymousreply 383February 19, 2025 12:21 AM

Maddow, as usual, was excellent Tuesday night. A great mix of info, humor, and seriousness to get the news across. She's really explaining what is going on each night in a 'less boring' and 'less technical' way than other reporters.

by Anonymousreply 387February 19, 2025 12:09 PM

Maddow time.

by Anonymousreply 388February 20, 2025 1:14 AM

"Mike Schmidt, who is also my husband, for the purposes of this segment and otherwise"

I believe today's the first time I've heard Nicolle introduce him as such. She might have mentioned it back when she was returning from maternity leave.

by Anonymousreply 399February 21, 2025 12:18 AM

Not the first time, R397.

by Anonymousreply 400February 21, 2025 12:19 AM

She probably mentioned the relationship so as to be transparent while promoting another network's broadcast on her show. I recall her introducing him as spouse once before.

Interesting to see how Mike Schmidt deals with Nicolle's maddening bouts of laughter. While the other two guests joined in and encouraged her hilarity, a straight-faced Mike Schmidt was engrossed in his phone, apparently having tuned-out his ridiculous wife - a well-practiced move.

by Anonymousreply 401February 21, 2025 12:37 AM

Just took note of how frequently Rachel laughs during her typical program. Which is quite frequent. I'm here for it, as well as for her sharp wit and pointed sense of humor.

Though not as driven by wit, I also enjoy and appreciate Nicolle's laughter. As informative as her program is, it also often gives me the feels, owing largely to her engaging demeanor.

It's so nice to have a choice in these matters.

My one occasional problem with Rachel was her snark. I have no problem with it now!

by Anonymousreply 405February 21, 2025 3:28 AM

I like that Rachel keeps an upbeat humor with a truth and sting to it instead of the bitter rants so many Dems get criticized for. Sometimes humor breaks through truths that everyone sees but may not verbalize. Even to those resistant to a normal debate on an issue. It's effective messaging.

Well Trump just declared MSNBC was an "enemy/threat to democracy" and "no one watches CNN any more" because their ratings are low at a rambling CPAC press conference. I caught a couple of minutes of it and as expected, he's stating all the "great" things he's done now. BBC aired it live, so I changed the channel. Neither CNN nor MSNBC aired the bullshit, only his media mouthpiece Fox News, as expected.

Per the NYT, Joy’s show has been cancelled by the new head of MSNBC and will be replaced by the “Weekend” crew. THIS IS UTTER BULLSHIT. Why not cancel Ari Melber’s crap rap hour instead? Most of the time he doesn’t even act like he wants to talk about politics. He’d much rather spend his time turning serious news into ludicrous rap discussions instead. I have nothing against him but he’s the one who should go, not Joy, but then he doesn’t go after Trump anywhere near like Joy does, so perhaps that was the motivation.

Oh, and Alex Wagner is losing her hour to Jen Psaki.

by Anonymousreply 427February 23, 2025 12:12 PM

Joy is a surprise…knew Alex Wagner wasn’t getting that 9pm slot back.

The Weekend Crew are excellent & put on a great show.

Jen Psaki is their golden girl…Chris Hayes & Ari Melber might want to get in that studio…

by Anonymousreply 430February 23, 2025 2:20 PM

And Chris Matthews rejoices.

by Anonymousreply 432February 23, 2025 2:44 PM

Joy’s tired, old race-baiting shtick is not what people want to hear anymore.

by Anonymousreply 433February 23, 2025 3:31 PM

A panel show with several hosts is a better fit for 7pm anyway.

by Anonymousreply 434February 23, 2025 3:32 PM

Chris Hayes should be the next to go.

by Anonymousreply 435February 23, 2025 3:32 PM
MSNBC is also looking beyond the network’s existing roster of anchors to fill out its programming lineup. MSNBC is considering on-air host positions for Eugene Daniels, a co-author of Politico’s influential Playbook newsletter, and Melissa Murray, a professor at the New York University School of Law, roles that would supplement their current jobs, said the other person familiar with the changes.

NYT

I’d rather listen to Joy than either of those two. They rarely gave anything insightful to say.

by Anonymousreply 436February 23, 2025 3:36 PM

Symone!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 437February 23, 2025 3:51 PM

I wish they would have the Weekend crew (Michael, Symone and Alicia) replace Joe and Mika in the mornings instead of replacing Joy at 7 p.m.

Also, I like Nicolle Wallace, but it seems foolish to have Nicolle continue anchoring for two hours solo every day while the trio of Michael, Symone, and Alicia have to share anchoring duties for just one hour.

by Anonymousreply 438February 23, 2025 3:56 PM

This sounds great. Good riddance to Joy, Alex and everyone else who needs to go. The Weekend at 7 pm weeknights is a smart decision.
Trump tipped his hand when he said that the Civil Wart could have been avoided if Slave Owners were paid for their freed slaves.

Trump is a moron who knows nothing about history. Of course.

The civil war was started by the south because they didn’t like the fact that an anti-slavery moderate was elected president. Lincoln took no action to free the slaves that brought that on. In fact he said he would not take any action to take slaves away from people who “owned” them.

Ironically the slave states themselves brought on exactly what they feared by attempting to destroy the United States.

by Anonymousreply 441February 23, 2025 4:14 PM

But the wiggers LOVE Ari, r440.

It makes them feel so NOT RACIST.

by Anonymousreply 442February 23, 2025 4:29 PM

I bet you ABC is keeping their eye on these developments. If they see MSNBC getting rid of Reid and her 'race baiting', ABC just may give Sunny Hostin her walking papers, too, if she doesn't reign it in.

by Anonymousreply 443February 23, 2025 5:16 PM

Interesting and very telling how Joy Reid gets canceled but not the top two Trump ass kissing shows, Morning Joe and Katy Turd. We see you MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 444February 23, 2025 7:16 PM

R444 One of the articles I read also says that Reid's ratings have dropped nearly 30% since Election Day. Ratings = $$$. If 'Morning Joe' and 'Katy Tur' have shows which lost nearly 30% of their viewers in the past four months, I'm betting the new head of MSNBC would give them the axe, too. She was hired to 'clean house' and get rid of any money-losers, and it seems that's exactly what she's doing. And she's starting with the prime time talent, which is the right step to take.

by Anonymousreply 445February 23, 2025 7:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 450February 23, 2025 11:40 PM

R449 Not on cable news. It starts at 7 pm. At least that's what was said when Laura Ingraham was bounced from 10 pm to 7 pm on FOX. They said she was still in prime time, so it was not a demotion.

by Anonymousreply 453February 24, 2025 1:11 AM

R452 Yes, the only explanation I can come up with is that he's an accomplished writer, because his on-air performances are seriously lackluster.

by Anonymousreply 454February 24, 2025 1:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 455February 24, 2025 1:40 AM

Lord help us. I can’t take a weekday dose of Eugene Daniel’s’ fucked up bama ass sense of fashion.

by Anonymousreply 456February 24, 2025 1:57 AM

For those of us who are fans of Joy, I hope she does like Jim Acosta, formerly of CNN, and produces her own show on Substack.

I've watched a couple of Acosta's shows, and it's obvious now he was somewhat limited in what he could report while on CNN. Reid could be unfiltered and it would be more like her weekend show which was far better than her weeknight. She was able to slip a lot of guests in the Prime Time producers didn't approve of, (like Sarah Kendzior, Malcolm Nance). Malcolm hasn't been on MSNBC in almost two years, but I bet he would support and appear on Joy's show if she were doing it elsewhere.

if MSNBC were still committed to amplifying progressive voices and actual FACTUAL reporting, they would give Elie Mistal an hour in prime time. His energy and outrage match the base in this moment AND he is intelligent and able to be both passionate and clear at the same time.

Joy's prime time show got dragged down by a lack of focus. I like her and think she is a bright woman, but I do think she would be a stronger voice in the podcast space.

by Anonymousreply 487February 25, 2025 1:25 AM

Good for Rachel. Well done.

by Anonymousreply 488February 25, 2025 1:30 AM

Rachel just gave Comcast the side-eye left handed burn for the way they got rid of their minority female newscasters: Alex, Joy and Katie. She pissed on Comcast. It was solid and respectful and she pissed on them.

by Anonymousreply 489February 25, 2025 1:31 AM

I wish she would've alluded to Scarborough and Mika keeping their jobs while Joy is shown the door.

Maddow and Scarborough have a long-standing mutual dislike of each other.

RACHEL owned it!!!

Gonna miss her 5 days a week….

by Anonymousreply 492February 25, 2025 1:38 AM

Good on you, Rachel, and I suspect Lawrence won't be pulling his punches later tonight.

Karine Jean-Pierre deserves a seat behind the big desk; give her a shot.

by Anonymousreply 493February 25, 2025 1:42 AM

Rachel will still be doing the first 100 days.

by Anonymousreply 494February 25, 2025 1:45 AM

I am SO fucking SICK of these MSNBC ass licking CMO (whatever the fuck that is; yes, I Googled it but every result was an insider-y "article").

With all those billionaire CEOs who collectively have blown the gotdamn world up getting their 90-second self-serving touchy feely bullshit about Vision, or Togetherness, or Stewardship, or Love, disingeously trying to make us believe 1) we know who the fuck they are and why we should care; and 2) they reallyreallyreallyreally are doing what's good and right for the world and why they've decided for us what is good for us.

Billionaire navel-gazing in 2025 when the world is exploding is so fucking tone-deaf I can hardly believe it isn't parody.

by Anonymousreply 495February 25, 2025 1:47 AM

Rachel did a great speech. However, if she wanted to be totally truthful with what's going on behind the shake-up at MSNBC, she would have disclosed the ratings fall for 'The Reid Out' and 'Alex Wagner'. Joy's show has shed nearly a third of her audience since November. What was the benefit of keeping her on ? And I appreciate Maddow pointing out that they got rid of their two minority hosts in prime time, but why not tell her viewers that three minority hosts will be filling Reid's spot when the new schedule premieres on April 1 ?

by Anonymousreply 496February 25, 2025 1:52 AM

Joy is so pissed she got herself hired on Fox & Friends.

by Anonymousreply 497February 25, 2025 1:56 AM

From a business viewpoint, what MSNBC is doing is ludicrous. Whatever happened to their business model? Of course ratings are way down since the election! People are fucking depressed! They don't want to watch the news at all!

Does MSNBC think they'll get viewers by getting rid of their minorities? Just the opposite. People are gonna come out of their stupor and be fucking angry as hell! If anything, they should go in the opposite direction. Keep Joy, Katie hang, Alex Wagner, definitely get rid of Morning Joe. Viewers feel betrayed by him. Bring on MORE progressives! The difference between Fox and MSNBC has never been equal on both sides. An extremely false equivalent. FOX lies!!!! They've always gone extreme.

MSNBC should go extreme in the other direction, but still tell the truth. There are so many stories that are not being given adequate coverage. Like how come no network has covered the Russian Spy admitting Trump has been an asset to Russia since the 80s?

Had it turned out that Biden or Hillary had been the asset, Fox would be giving it 24-hr coverage. They'd make it the top story on every show.

THAT'S what MSNBC needs to do if it wants to stay in business. They're just cutting off their life support now!

by Anonymousreply 501February 25, 2025 5:47 AM

And it's Katie Phang. Sorry about the P.

by Anonymousreply 503February 25, 2025 6:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 504February 25, 2025 10:48 AM
Of course ratings are way down since the election! People are fucking depressed! They don't want to watch the news at all!

Ratings are 'way down' for certain shows - such as 'The Reid Out' and 'Alex Wagner' -but not all. Other shows, such as 'The Weekend' and 'Rachel Maddow : Trump's First 100 Days' have seen their ratings skyrocket over the predecessor they took over. It would be ludicrous to bring in a new boss and for her not to address this problem immediately.

Again, if Maddow was 100% honest with her viewers she would've told them these ratings facts - ratings is a key factor on what drives any network and its programming decision. Maddow did a a big dis-service trying to bring 'the race card' into the decision instead. (And again - she doesn't mention the three cohosts taking over Reid's show are three minorities, and doesn't mention the that the first host named as taking over their 'Weekend' morning show is a minority. Maddow could've been more honest.

by Anonymousreply 505February 25, 2025 11:52 AM

The race issue is over for now. Put it away and focus on other things. It doesn’t help fight Trump and just make Dems look clueless. The right doesn’t care about racism and it’s just Dems attacking other Dems now. A true lose/lose. I feel the same about most Me too and trans issues for the time being.

by Anonymousreply 506February 25, 2025 12:13 PM

The last ratings chart I saw showed Chris Hayes just a notch above Joy with also less than a million viewers. If that is the case, why is he also not on the chopping block?

by Anonymousreply 507February 25, 2025 1:21 PM

Why was Morning Joe left of that ratings list? Those two need to go. Maybe keep the show if they really care about ratings.

I feel like all these changes are just moving chairs around the deck of the Titanic when the real ice bergs that tore a hole in the ship are Mika and Joe.

by Anonymousreply 508February 25, 2025 1:28 PM

When ever Chris Hayes program comes on switch to Anderson then switch to anything. They’re both too difficult to stomach.

by Anonymousreply 509February 25, 2025 2:32 PM

replace Morning Joe with Joy In the Morning

by Anonymousreply 510February 25, 2025 6:42 PM

I think Stephanie Ruhle should have the Morning Joe slot, her perkiness works better in the AM.

Also, she has been making the rounds of every talk show from Andy Cohen to Bill Maher over the past several months. She’s angling for a better gig.

by Anonymousreply 516February 25, 2025 11:02 PM

R507 Hayes' ratings may be a 'notch' above Joy's, but did he lose nearly a third of his viewers since Election Day like Joy has ? Or did he increase viewers ? Did his viewership level off and stay the same ? That matters. No network wants a show losing viewers.

by Anonymousreply 517February 25, 2025 11:11 PM
Michael Steele in for Joy with all white men so far.

That's what you're seeing on your television ? You need a new TV.

by Anonymousreply 533February 26, 2025 6:37 PM

R530 After the first Trump election, it was well into 2017 before the MSNBC ratings took off. The downturn this time is largely due to loyal viewers tuning out, being so thoroughly disgusted with the current state of affairs and exhaustion. I think many of those viewers are returning now, joined by the victims and those who have already been burned by the extreme insanity and chaos of Musk and Trump 2.0. When something like Meidas Touch beats out Rogan, you know there's a sentiment shift building.

by Anonymousreply 534February 26, 2025 10:35 PM

If someone can find some actual proof that Elon did rig the election and that became the top news story, trust, that would make the ratings go sky high. 🙏🏼

by Anonymousreply 535February 26, 2025 10:50 PM
The right would have taken that tiny possibly and ran to the capital with it. Democrats are too lazy, stupid, petty, spoiled, prou - d,busy, indecisive, nice, scared, - honest, inclusive etc. Too much of everything to get anything done.

Democrats believe in law and ethics and care about truth.

For many of us, those values are what we are fighting for. The argument that we should be like the Republicans and abandon all in the quest for power at any price misses the point—the Republicans have to lie because their ultimate agenda is unpopular. They want to stop government regulation, consumer protections, civil right enforcement and to cut taxes for the benefit of the rich. Some of them are white supremacists or Christian Nationalists . They can’t actually run on those agendas, so they lie.

Democrats don’t need to lie and it is not in our nature

Olbermann is roasting Maddow on his podcast, blaming her for not protecting the jobs of those fired.

by Anonymousreply 544February 27, 2025 2:37 PM

Olbermann is an asshole, as Rachel can only protect her own production staff.

And she has.

by Anonymousreply 545February 27, 2025 3:31 PM

Well here's Olbermann's take on the situation -basically saying Maddow could have done a lot more given her clout - starting around the 5:50 mark:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 546February 27, 2025 3:34 PM

Actually, she can’t. Her production staff was Alex Wagner’s production staff and most of them will have to scramble for new jobs or leave.

by Anonymousreply 547February 27, 2025 3:35 PM

Olbermann's larger point is that, according to him, the firings of Joy and the demotions of Alex and Katy Phang were decided on the basis of race and were part of an appeasement strategy to the blunt being targeted by the Dump administration.

He addresses the fact that Joy's time slot is being given to two black and one latina hosts by dismissing Steele and Sanders as "sales people" implying they aren't really journalists simply dismisses Alicia Menendez as the daughter of the disgraced senator from NJ.

He goes on to describe Maddow as the person who formerly had impeccable integrity, citing a history of Maddow threatening to walk off the network if restraints were put on her reporting to now having evolved into, essentially a dishonest sycophant for the network and asserting that her critique of their firings/demotions were performative as she and only she had the power to stop them.

Harsh take, but Olbermann is always messy but it doesn't mean he doesn't have a point in there somewhere. I think with Olbermann it is always personal. He felt personally betrayed by Maddow in previous situations but it does raise the question of Maddow's power and influence at MSNBC.

It's very possible that his take of her having this kind of power at MSNBC was once true, but is no longer true. Especially if Comcast is getting ready to sell it.

by Anonymousreply 548February 27, 2025 4:10 PM

If you believe the firings are racially motivated, I suspect there is nothing anyone can say to convince you otherwise.

Considering who Joy’s replacements are, I find the argument is weak.

The insistence that the firing of a Black anchor MUST be racially motivated is an example of why progressives are losing ground. At its root, a lot if what passes for progressive thought strikes me as really being about progressive emotions.

by Anonymousreply 549February 27, 2025 4:17 PM
If you believe the firings are racially motivated, I suspect there is nothing anyone can say to convince you otherwise.

r548 here. I'm summarizing Olbermann's view, not endorsing it. For example, I can really see the value of Michael Steele in primetime teaching Democrats how to fight like Republicans. He absolutely hates Dump and mocks him constantly, so I don't see how elevating him and giving him this platform appease the Orange Dotard.

I also think that as powerful as Maddow is at the network, she may not have the power she once did especially if they are getting ready to sell.

Joy Reid pissed off not just Republicans but also supporters of Israel with her commentary on Gaza etc. So that could also have been a factor

However, all that in mind. If Joy had Rachel's numbers or even O'Donnell's numbers, they would probably not have fired her.

by Anonymousreply 550February 27, 2025 4:26 PM

I stopped watching both Joy and Chris over their parroting of the progressive take on Gaza which I found to be distorted and unfair. They simply ignored Hamas and Iran as actors, presenting the conflict as Netanyahu vs innocent women and children.

Having avoided both I can’t say whether Joy was worse than Chris.

by Anonymousreply 551February 27, 2025 4:39 PM

One of Olbermann's arguments, which I think has some merit, is that all of the women of color who have hosted their own shows on MSNBC have ended up being let go, usually on less-than-amicable terms: Joy Reid, Tiffany Cross, Melissa Harris-Perry, and Tamron Hall.

You could also add Zerlina Maxwell, who never hosted her own show but was a fill-in anchor and hosted a podcast before parting ways with MSNBC.

MSNBC has never been able to keep a black female host.

MSNBC's record with black male hosts isn't much better. Al Sharpton had a weekday show before he was demoted to weekends. Joshua Johnson was hired away from public radio to host a weekend show but only lasted a few months before being demoted to Peacock and then let go. Jonathan Capehart is now losing his show and will end up being a co-host rather than a solo host.

by Anonymousreply 552February 27, 2025 4:40 PM
Jonathan Capehart is now losing his show and will end up being a co-host rather than a solo host.

Capehart has *zero* gravitas.

by Anonymousreply 553February 27, 2025 4:57 PM

It could be that the audience for shows hosted by “women of color” is limited by irrational audience preferences or by unpopular content.

I think MSNBC has an obligation to provide opportunities to women of color, but they do not have an obligation to keep them on the air with low ratings.

by Anonymousreply 554February 27, 2025 5:06 PM
I think MSNBC has an obligation to provide opportunities to women of color, but they do not have an obligation to keep them on the air with low ratings.

But if all of them end up with low ratings, then it suggests that MSNBC is either doing a poor job of identifying and hiring talent or doing a poor job of developing and promoting the talent.

Interesting, too, that Chris Hayes and Stephanie Ruhle's shows have poor ratings (Ruhle's "11th Hour" loses about half of Lawrence O'Donnell's audience), but they're not being axed or reassigned -- just Joy Reid and Alex Wagner.

by Anonymousreply 555February 27, 2025 5:17 PM
But if all of them end up with low ratings, then it suggests that MSNBC is either doing a poor job of identifying and hiring talent or doing a poor job of developing and promoting the talent.

Or it suggests that audiences don’t like something about the shows. If the audience isn’t there for Black women anchors, it does not necessarily follow that it’s the network’s fault.

Maybe looking at everything through a progressive prism doesn’t strike enough people as insightful or illuminating?

There is no entitlement to your own network show.

Your point about ratings require more than looking at last week’s ratings. You have to look across time and in comparison to other programs in the same time slot.

by Anonymousreply 556February 27, 2025 5:28 PM
But if all of them end up with low ratings, then it suggests that MSNBC is either doing a poor job of identifying and hiring talent or doing a poor job of developing and promoting the talent.

Or maybe the audience is just sick of hearing the same tired old racial narrative day in and day out from the black hosts.

by Anonymousreply 561February 27, 2025 10:40 PM

Tamron Hall went on to the Today Show and was shafted by them. She's immensely likable but traded her journalistic cred for a daytime show. Melissa Harris-Perry and Tiffany Cross considered all white people to be racists. Perry was patronizing and Cross was needy and showboated. I would like to see almost all of the daytime lineup fired plus Stephanie Ruhle and her asinine bromides.

by Anonymousreply 562February 27, 2025 10:41 PM

I don't really know what MSNBC expects for ratings. All of the shows are essentially the same except for a different host and talking head panels unless something new breaks in the meantime. It is not like most are tuning into MSNBC and not turning the "channel" until bedtime. I am not surprised Stephanie loses half of Lawrence's audience at 11pm as many have to go to work in the AM. I also believe as the tRump presidency rolls on, the ratings numbers will improve in their favor. And I don't think MSNBC will ever come close to the ratings Fox maintains. Finally, I also believe Comcast/NBC is stingy with MSNBC - they should be streaming on Peacock for those of us who do not have cable or subscribe to a TV service like Sling or YoutubeTV.

by Anonymousreply 563February 27, 2025 11:20 PM
NBC is stingy with MSNBC - they should be streaming on Peacock for those of us who do not have cable or subscribe to a TV service like Sling or YoutubeTV.

It looks like ABC is going to move The View to the internet. The Weekend View is all E!. No politics. Creating the carrot.

MSNBC needs to move to Internet broadcast.

Keith, in his list of WOC who MSNBC has axed, failed to mention Zerlina Maxwell. She would not fit his theory of those who "occasionally and forgiveably talk crazy shit" vs. the "sales people". I thought she was a sane and valuable commentator, as a guest and on her short-lived Peacock show.

Apparently, she now spends half her time in Italy, and is happier for it.

He sounds like a man who knows how to eat pussy and satisfy his partner, rather than treating women like a masturbatory device.

THAT is the difference between men who have no problem with their masculinity, because they understand the needs of women, and toxic boys who only see them and submissive masturbation devices.

We need to teach our boys to not be afraid of eating pussy and the benefits of being a skilled lover/partner.

I sincerely doubt ABC will move their #1 daytime network show - and the #1 daytime talk show over the past few years - to the internet. What will they replace the 11 am hour with ? As Walters pointed out 30 years ago, it's a tough time-slot to fill and an important one (because local affiliates want a strong lead-in to their local noon news, which the networks promise to deliver). Why would they fill it with another talk show and take a gamble on a new host / show when they have a proven winner ? What are their other options - a game show going head to head with 'The Price is Right' on CBS, which has been airing at 11 am weekdays since 1971 ? After 28 years, 'The View' has held its own against TPIR, and I think ABC is quite happy over that.
