by Anonymous | reply 604 | August 21, 2024 4:26 AM |
Kyle Sweetser from Alabama, supported Trump three times. Works with his hands. Yes please!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 20, 2024 11:22 PM |
C-Span rocks
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 20, 2024 11:23 PM |
Thanks, OP!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 20, 2024 11:23 PM |
His kids and his ex-wife are there to support him
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 20, 2024 11:26 PM |
Awwww.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 20, 2024 11:26 PM |
Love Emhoff (and of course Kamala) but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST that daughter is hard to look at.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 20, 2024 11:29 PM |
Cheesus Christ!
The Wisconsin delegation and those damn Cheddar Heads.
Just kidding. I love them.
Besides, if you've decided to wear a faux depiction of cheese as a garment, you've gotta be all in.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 20, 2024 11:29 PM |
“Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters. He calls them 'basement dwellers’…Here I am behind a podium advocating for a Democrat, and that’s because I love my country more than my party”
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 20, 2024 11:32 PM |
Grisham is not a great speaker but it takes balls to do this and I think it will resonate
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 20, 2024 11:33 PM |
What are they chanting?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 20, 2024 11:34 PM |
There's some movement!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 20, 2024 11:36 PM |
I think it's going to be pretty much impossible for anyone to top Hillary's speech.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 20, 2024 11:40 PM |
"Michelle Obama is speaking at the DNC tonight, which means we'll get a sneak peak Melania Trump's next speech."
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 20, 2024 11:40 PM |
Bring on the roll call!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 20, 2024 11:41 PM |
"He calls them basement dwellers"
Does he also say they type fat?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 20, 2024 11:47 PM |
That's one thing where I agree with Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 20, 2024 11:49 PM |
So I guess Trump hates Trump supporters as much as we do!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 20, 2024 11:55 PM |
Well, this DJ-scored roll call is certainly a choice.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 20, 2024 11:56 PM |
It feels a bit like Eurovision
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 20, 2024 11:58 PM |
A good choice!!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 20, 2024 11:58 PM |
Pretty cool roll call, though they need to fix the sound mix. Music sometimes drowns out the speakers
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 20, 2024 11:59 PM |
Michael Beschloss @BeschlossDC Democratic roll call vote is much enhanced by the music provided by DJ Cassidy.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 20, 2024 11:59 PM |
I fucking LOVE this country.
That is all.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 21, 2024 12:00 AM |
Fleetwood Mac gave Kamala permission to play the music to Don't Stop.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 21, 2024 12:00 AM |
Why did California pass?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 21, 2024 12:01 AM |
That was Bill Clinton's song...
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 21, 2024 12:01 AM |
[quote] Why did California pass?
So they can cast their votes later to put her over the top.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 21, 2024 12:02 AM |
I do, too R26.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 21, 2024 12:02 AM |
I've never understood why US citizens who live abroad can still vote in US elections.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 21, 2024 12:03 AM |
We are in mourning due to the Ben and Jen split.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 21, 2024 12:03 AM |
R30: Home state of the nominee ALWAYS puts the nominee over.
R32: Why shouldn't they?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 21, 2024 12:03 AM |
Because they still have to pay taxes, R32.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 21, 2024 12:05 AM |
I wish, wish most people would watch the convention via C-Span, rather than CNN and MSNBC—the people who need to see this the most.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 21, 2024 12:05 AM |
R34, because they chose to not live in the US anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 21, 2024 12:06 AM |
Lil Jon!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 21, 2024 12:06 AM |
R37: What a ridiculous reason you give.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 21, 2024 12:07 AM |
Lil Jon’s song was used in that funny video of those people in that boat that hit a wake and fell in the boat. It was perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 21, 2024 12:07 AM |
R35, OK, I did not know that. (Why is that?). If this is true, I'll take back what I said.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 21, 2024 12:07 AM |
Aahhh, Tom Petty. Florida native.
I'm officially verklempt.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 21, 2024 12:08 AM |
R41: Because all income of American citizens are subject to taxation. No matter where it is earned.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 21, 2024 12:09 AM |
Omg, the B-52s. How fun!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 21, 2024 12:09 AM |
R41 the only way for US citizens to stop having to pay income taxes to to renounce your citizenship
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 21, 2024 12:10 AM |
The DJ is good.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 21, 2024 12:10 AM |
Wow, for some reason I thought Lil Jon was a Trumper!
Good to know it isn't true.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 21, 2024 12:10 AM |
My governor, JB!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 21, 2024 12:11 AM |
Fox is carrying this with no comment.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 21, 2024 12:11 AM |
50 Cent is a Trumper.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 21, 2024 12:11 AM |
Still don't get why a state "passes" and then they came back to Alabama, and they cast their votes for Kamala?
What does it mean when a state passes?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 21, 2024 12:12 AM |
And why do some states vote "present?"
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 21, 2024 12:12 AM |
Sean Astin?? Random
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 21, 2024 12:12 AM |
Madame Secretary is waiting to long to call out the states, otherwise this is going well.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 21, 2024 12:12 AM |
WHET Mackenzie Astin?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 21, 2024 12:13 AM |
I agree, R22! It’s festive and fun and so indicative of the Democratic Party.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 21, 2024 12:13 AM |
Thank you R45, R43, R35. I now understand.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 21, 2024 12:14 AM |
I am watching and this is actually kind of ridiculous. No shade to them but it’s all kind of too much. And before that one person who doesn’t have a working brain tries spinning my comment, no, it isn’t a pro-Republican comment. I’m a Dem. You can be a Democrat and still acknowledge when they’re being cheesy.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 21, 2024 12:14 AM |
Wow, Sean isn't on Ozempic. Didn't recognize him.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 21, 2024 12:14 AM |
To those asking, it is tradition for the nominee's home state to be the one that give them the votes that put them over the top with the majority to be the nominee. For the votes of present, those are the delegates that were elected in the primaries that were undeclared/non-committed.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 21, 2024 12:15 AM |
Nothing wrong with a bit of cheese. You want to engage the attention of as many people as possible who wouldn't normally care about politics. Otherwise it's just hours of frequently boring speeches.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 21, 2024 12:16 AM |
[quote] And why do some states vote "present?"
Some states uncommitted (pro Gaza) got enough votes in the primary to get delegates, those delegates were not going to vote for Biden or Harris so they vote present,
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 21, 2024 12:17 AM |
R51, Alabama passed so Biden's home state could kick off the nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 21, 2024 12:17 AM |
Cheesy is good, emotion is good, think of how depressed, anxious and scared we’ve been. Americans NEED this reminder that we are in this together. It’s like dancing to a “cheesy” tune at a wedding at a wedding. Why not go for it and have fun with it?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 21, 2024 12:18 AM |
R62: To add, delegates are bound by the primary results under party rules for the 1st ballot at convention. So those uncommitted votes are locked in from their various states.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 21, 2024 12:18 AM |
Seems to me that they would have to get clearance from the artists prior to using their music for this roll call (?)
Which would explain why the GOP could never do anything of the sort.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | August 21, 2024 12:18 AM |
Had to put it on mute, the roll call is the most grassroots part of the Convention, but it comes off as the festival of rubes. Easier to watch than to listen to the screaming chimps.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 21, 2024 12:18 AM |
Andy Beshear, thank you for adjusting you r sleeves tonight!
We love you!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 21, 2024 12:18 AM |
Cheesy is good, emotion is good, think of how depressed, anxious and scared we’ve been. Americans NEED this reminder that we are in this together. It’s like dancing to a “cheesy” tune at a wedding at a wedding. Why not go for it and have fun with it?
And angry, very fucking angry.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 21, 2024 12:20 AM |
I just want to say to Andy Beshear, “You know you’re hot, right?” Because he just seems like the kind of boring straight guy who’s completely clueless as to his own hotness.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 21, 2024 12:20 AM |
R64 cheesy is good now? Since when? Be consistent.
This is a joke.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | August 21, 2024 12:20 AM |
And why are they each declaring their votes? We, the people vote. Or is this now a communist situation?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | August 21, 2024 12:21 AM |
R72: You do understand how CONVENTIONS full of DELEGATES elected in PRIMARIES work, don't you, dear?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
No Motown music for Michigan?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
The guy from Maryland is very handsome. Love that the Massachusetts guy declared that their libraries don’t ban books.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
[quote]Wow, for some reason I thought Lil Jon was a Trumper! Good to know it isn't true.
You’re thinking of the hideous Lil Wayne.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
BOOP!!! Logan Act! Collapsing!
After PBS reported that Donald Trump has been talking to Netanyahu to kill a Gaza ceasefire deal, a request for investigation into Trump violating the Logan Act was filed with the DOJ.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
It’s Marxist-Leninist. Get your ideologies straight.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
All I can say is I wish the sexier congressman of each state got to do this instead of these rubes.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
Then don’t watch and leave this thread, r71.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 21, 2024 12:22 AM |
Eminem and Gretchen for Michigan. (OK, so they goofed a little)
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 21, 2024 12:23 AM |
Ŕ71/72, just go to bed. Or Google how the nomination/delegate process works. Either one.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | August 21, 2024 12:23 AM |
The Logan Act …where referrals for bad acts go to die.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 21, 2024 12:23 AM |
cheesy is good now? Since when? Be consistent.
This is a joke.
No, people prefer doom, gloom, and anger. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 84 | August 21, 2024 12:24 AM |
Just block the troll and move on.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 21, 2024 12:25 AM |
[quote] The guy from Maryland is very handsome.
Governor Wes Moore. And yes he is, very.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | August 21, 2024 12:26 AM |
The Repugs had Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off. This is very demure in comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 21, 2024 12:26 AM |
MA really screwed up with casting their votes. They should have played Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money" for their background music (if not Summer singing, then the instrumental version). C'mon - Summer is one of the most famous female black singers to come out of MA. The song would have been perfect for MA and Kamala.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | August 21, 2024 12:27 AM |
And mindful.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | August 21, 2024 12:27 AM |
I miss the old days when these delegates and conventioneers would all wear silly hats and hoist up balloons on sticks.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | August 21, 2024 12:27 AM |
My governor, Maryland’s Wes Moore, was looking sexy as usual.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | August 21, 2024 12:28 AM |
I don't even remember the roll call at the RNC - the whole show was so boring, negative and forgettable.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | August 21, 2024 12:28 AM |
First night of the DNC beat the first night of the RNC in the ratings!
by Anonymous | reply 93 | August 21, 2024 12:28 AM |
[quote] The guy from Maryland is very handsome.
Not a great dancer, though
by Anonymous | reply 94 | August 21, 2024 12:28 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 95 | August 21, 2024 12:28 AM |
Who's the cute guy playing DJ ? And why didn't they pick Ari Melber to be DJ ?
by Anonymous | reply 96 | August 21, 2024 12:29 AM |
Brandon Flowers/The Killers for Nevada.

Wes Moore of Maryland really is hot as fuck. I see a star on the rise. And some cocks.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | August 21, 2024 12:32 AM |
I don't like the hat, but his DJing is perfect for the occasion.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | August 21, 2024 12:32 AM |

My hope he is he is near narcissistic collapse.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | August 21, 2024 12:35 AM |
New York! Damn right, we’re for Harris/Walz!
Except for the deplorables upstate, on Long Island and Staten Island, but we don’t need them to carry our state.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | August 21, 2024 12:36 AM |
DJ Cassidy is great. He always DJs the after show for the BET Awards.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | August 21, 2024 12:36 AM |
Where were all you bitches when Kamala was creating her shortlist??
by Anonymous | reply 113 | August 21, 2024 12:37 AM |
Why didn't Patti LuPone deliver the NY votes in song?
by Anonymous | reply 114 | August 21, 2024 12:37 AM |
Well California missed its opportunity to put her over the delegate threshold
by Anonymous | reply 116 | August 21, 2024 12:38 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 117 | August 21, 2024 12:39 AM |

Who is the queen asking each state how they cast their votes ? And what pronouns do they use ?
by Anonymous | reply 121 | August 21, 2024 12:42 AM |
How many different pronunciations of " Kamala" will come from Dem roll call announcers? I've counted three so far.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | August 21, 2024 12:42 AM |
R121 that’s a trans man
by Anonymous | reply 123 | August 21, 2024 12:42 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 127 | August 21, 2024 12:44 AM |
Well, this roll call assures Obama's speech will be out of prime time in the East.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | August 21, 2024 12:44 AM |
Josh Shapiro knows the assignment!
by Anonymous | reply 129 | August 21, 2024 12:44 AM |
Probably not a popular idea but I have always believed that states that actually vote for Democrats in the election should get more nominating votes that states that always go Republican in the election. Why let a state that always goes Republican have as big a say as states that always go Democratic if their populations are equal.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | August 21, 2024 12:45 AM |
[quote]"To the rafters and standing room only in Milwaukee! "

R130 that doesn’t even make sense. wtf.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | August 21, 2024 12:46 AM |
I love a good roll call. A cocktail or two makes it even more enjoyable.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | August 21, 2024 12:46 AM |
..And families with children should have more votes than singles, right R130?
by Anonymous | reply 134 | August 21, 2024 12:47 AM |
As a RIer, let me tell you that Speaker of the House is one of the most crooked politicians in our state government. And that is saying something with a state house filled with crooked politicians.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | August 21, 2024 12:47 AM |
Oh fuck you both if you don't understand.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | August 21, 2024 12:48 AM |
I can’t believe someone really said states that vote Republican shouldn’t have equal voting rights etc. WHAT?!
by Anonymous | reply 137 | August 21, 2024 12:48 AM |
I love the roll call.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | August 21, 2024 12:48 AM |
Glad the Puerto Rican delegate announced their vote in Spanish.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | August 21, 2024 12:48 AM |
R136 it makes no sense. It’s also fucking insane to want that. That isn’t a democracy. That is a dictatorship.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | August 21, 2024 12:48 AM |
Not all cheese is the same. I love this cheese. USA! And all these folk actually look like the USA.

by Anonymous | reply 143 | August 21, 2024 12:50 AM |
It makes perfect sense for the states that will actually elect Democrats to decide who is the candidate of the party, not states that are going to elect Republicans. Clearly you don't know the meaning of dictatorships.

Rep. Justin Pearson delivering the roll call votes while standing next to Gloria Johnson for Tennessee while Dolly Parton music plays. Love it.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | August 21, 2024 12:51 AM |
R130/R132: They actually do that for delegate counts. State delegation totals factor in your state's vote in the last Presidential election, I believe.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | August 21, 2024 12:51 AM |
What song is playing for Texas?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | August 21, 2024 12:52 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 162 | August 21, 2024 12:56 AM |
This will mean nothing to the young 'uns, but hearing Kathy Hochul casually mention Stonewall in her voting speech and everyone cheering and screaming would have been incomprehensible not long ago.
So old that I remember when Jesse Jackson mentioned gay and lesbian civil rights in his 1984 floor speech. No one had ever, ever done that before.

As much as people bitched about Biden's age and physical condition such as walking slow and the falls. I found it hilarious how many people never pointed out that Trump is overweight and has shit diet. His physical condition probably isn't better than Biden's. Biden isn't a fat ass and probably has much better diet. I hope Biden outlives Trump.

Texas with a 2020 population of 29.36 million has 244 delegates to the Democratic Convention
New York with a 2020 population of 19.34 million has 268 delegate to the Democratic Convention.

Well, Melania JB's wife MK is fat and he probably likes her that way. You would probably need to gain about 50 to 100 pounds for JB to have an attraction to you. Maybe, start eating fast food with Donald and hope that JB becomes a widower.

Doug Emhoff’s speech is adorable. He’s fantastic, and the fact that he isn’t slick is an asset. The anecdote about him making his first call to Kamala and leaving an awkward message is classic. He seems as real as he seems nice.

Racism. Racist people in this country had had it up to here with a dignified, intelligent black man and his beautiful family occupying the White House for 8 years and were going to be damned if a woman - a Clinton at that - would be his successor. They (along with Comey and Russian interference) ushered in the Trump era, but what they weren't baking on was that Trump would be so awful that we would NEVER want to go back to that as a nation.

Michelle is a better speaker than Barack, hands down.
Barack's speeches are always bumpy, and sometimes rambling, and sometimes cracking a few jokes.
Michelle's speeches are all content. They get straight to the point, and she pulls no punches. There's no fluff there. It's all straight talk.
She needs to help him work on that.
I zone out sometimes on Barack's speeches, but my attention is firmly held when Michelle speaks.
It's a gift.

None of this would be happening were it not for Nancy Pelosi’s ruthless guile. She’s box office poison, so of course she won’t be speaking at the convention. But this will go down as the capstone of her improbable career as the most prolific and successful Speaker of the last century. She knows where all the bodies are buried; what she has extracted from adversaries and sympathetic opportunists alike can’t be overstated. So much of what she’s accomplished went down in smokey cloakrooms. The high-stakes machinations will be lost to history, but her legacy won’t. She’ll be remembered in social studies textbooks as the grandmother who broke the glass ceiling. But in actual fact, nobody in recent history has brokered and consolidated power like Nancy. Not by a long shot.

She is a boss, but more than that, she is a very serious person. I knew when she thought it was over, it was over. That was pretty much it for me. I knew that she was not some petty feuding bitch who believes things for silly reason. If she was worried about Biden, there was clearly a problem.

by Anonymous | reply 594 | August 21, 2024 4:06 AM |
I think Nancy’s secret to success, to a certain extent, was her lack of desire for office higher than Representative. Most people who make it to Party leadership in the House want to use that position to springboard into the Senate, the Governorship of their state, and a lot of them dream of being Vice and then President.
Nancy didn’t want that. She wanted to run the House caucus, deciding who got which committee assignments, and using those appointments to guide and influence what got through committee and voted on, as well as to inspire loyalty which she used to keep her caucus in lockstep. You might have had a few fringe Reps who’d say crazy things but they usually always voted Nancy’s way when time came to vote. The Republicans, who you’d expect to be the ones marching in formation , could only dream of having such overwhelming and lasting control over their trouble makers.
She’s the most influential Speaker in a century, and rivals Johnson when in the Senate in amount of influence and quiet power. The fist of her book new book is that it’s all because she sets big goals and keeps her eye on them and every move is made with an eye toward getting closer to those goals.
by Anonymous | reply 595 | August 21, 2024 4:08 AM |
Very much agree r595. So many people do this silly thing that everybody should want to be president, and if not, what's the point. It's so stupid. Some people have very different roles and the idea that the only role for any successful role for any politician is president is stupid and inane. Glad she saw that.

R598, your meaning was perfectly clear. Nancy seems like an organizer, who rallies the troops, and most importantly, is a mater at not saying the things that need to not be said, if you catch my drift.
The Morning Joe appearance after Biden announced he was staying in is a prime example. She kept saying, “He needs to make that decision” even though he had ostensibly made his decision. What she didn’t say, or how she didn’t say it, was the power play in that scenario.
