Some of you are acting so gleeful about President Biden possibly dropping out
You won't be, when Donald Trump wins in November.
2025 is shaping up to be then end of American Democracy, because some of you jerks want some "excitement" in the Presidential race.
No replacement Democratic candidate will beat Trump. So let's start there.
Then upon his second inauguration in January is when things really get ugly.
Project 2025. The Heritage Foundation and Christian Nationalism take over. Mass deportations. Dismantling of the Federal Government. Women and gay people being stripped of all rights they have gained in the past 50 years. Rampant racists being emboldened by Trump's election.
In other words, utterly chaos.
But by all means, jump for joy on bullying President Joe Biden out of office.
You'll all be sorry when you see what a second Donald Trump presidency brings.
And I'm pretty sure Republicans will win the Senate and the House too, if people think the Democratic Party is in shambles.
The new Republican majority will push through every single right-wing measure that Trump and his supporters bring forward.
The end of our American Democracy will be swift and sudden. Just watch.

If President Biden leaves the race, that will leave only 3 months for a new candidate to launch a campaign.
THREE FUCKING MONTHS.
Do you idiots not understand this?
Most campaigns need at least a year and a half to build momentum, introduce themselves to the voters, and build a voter base.
Donald Trump already has the name recognition and the voter base, on top of being an ex-President.
If President Biden drops out, Donald Trump will effectively be the incumbent.
President Biden is the ONLY Democratic hope, who has the base, the money, the authority, and the name recognition to defeat Trump.
He is the only one.
Anyone else attempting to build a campaign in three months and hope to win the Presidency, will be soundly CRUSHED by Trump.

I don't want Biden pushed out in disgrace. Hell no. Biden has to leave by his own choice. And even then it would look like he was bullied out of office. And the problem with that is the new nominee whoever it is may very well lose some Biden voters. It's a pathway strewn with high risks. Now if Biden became ill, had a stroke, or some other medical emergency, and he left of his own accord because of illness, we just might be able to pull it out. When Joe says he would evaluate running if he had health issues he wasn't being stubborn. He was being realistic. He would not leave in a way that hurt the Dems. That is definitely not his style. The media and all these so-called leakers bullying him, publicly embarrassing him urging him to quit, are not helpful. They are the ones hurting our chances of winning.WTC does Adam chiff think he is doing by being so public. He is full of shit. Maybe he is trying to pressure Pelosi. R50– I have no doubt Trump is going to get in the office, my friend. The Biden administration has drawn its curtains closed with the whole billions to Ukraine fiasco, along with the massive inflation and spending they’ve done. His administration has spent money like water and it’s hurting the middle class most of all. More people are getting second jobs or side hustles to make ends meet. Social Security is not adjusting nearly enough for inflation for seniors’ cost of living increases. Biden also ended the COVID emergency and protections — he poofed it away. And here we are, still viable to get sick and possibly be put in the hospital. The pandemic is still alive and well. Still wearing my N95 mask everywhere.
Biden is a cooked goose, and so are the Democrats. They don’t give a flying shit about democracy. Neither do Republicans, go figure. We are witnessing the end of a once great nation. Buckle up, look into cryptocurrency and enjoy the ride.

From earlier this month:
According to multiple sources, Trump expects that—barring a health crisis—the historic effort to dump Biden will fail. “They’re stuck with Biden,” a senior Trump campaign source told me. Longtime Trump confidant Kellyanne Conway agreed, arguing that Democrats are too disorganized to draft a replacement. “That party has fallen into a state of sclerosis,” she said.
Some Republicans outside the Trump campaign, however, worry that Democrats will find a way to jettison Biden for a more competitive candidate. Over the weekend, Trump’s primary rival Nikki Haley told The Wall Street Journal that the ex-president needs to prepare to face a younger opponent. Sources I spoke to said that would be a worst-case scenario for Trump. “We need to make sure Biden stays on the ballot and there’s no bait and switch,” a veteran of Trump’s 2020 campaign said. Another MAGA-world insider said Trump potentially walked into a trap by agreeing to debate Biden before the party conventions, leaving Democrats with enough time to make a change. According to this source, the party won’t let Biden remain on the ticket. “They will force him out because they don’t intend to lose,” the source said.

OP is full of BS. No one is "happy" about the Biden situation (crisis). It's a race to rescue American Democracy and basic decency. Biden's campaign is failing. And falling hard. The only chance we have is with a different candidate, hopefully Michele Obama for the best chances to win.

R63 that would really be a disaster. If Biden should decide to drop out, all the money that has been collected so far for the campaign would revert to Kamala. So would the organization in the field. If the delegates rebel and cause chaos at the convention dissolving into a floor fight among factions, who ever ends up being the Not Kamala nominee would have to build an organization, raise money and create afield operation and staff it. They would be starting with a significant deficit. So the smart thing to do would be to stick with Biden or, if he decides to drop out, Kamala. She was making a speech in North Carolina today and she was on fire. She sounded great. Did avery excellent job. Depending on how it was handled, the party could end up being very open and sympathetic to her and she is polling ahead of both Biden and Trump right now.

I think a lot of people who talk about switching candidates have never been involved in running a campaign. I've run three or four local races, but I have worked on the senior staff of statewide races for governor three times and one U.S. senate race. two of the governor races were successful. I've also been part of the senior staff of the state campaign organization for 4 different Presidential candidates starting with Jimmy Carter, Mondale, Dukakis and Clinton, '92. Donald Trump had virtually no organization when he ran in 2016., he was a mega celebrity and he'd call the news papers and TV folk himself to gt free airtime and they were delighted. He had a basic staff who made sure the paperwork was filed and the name got on the ballot before the deadline. But that is highly unusual. Campaigns need foot soldiers and organizations. They have to identify their voters and gt them out. I loved working campaigns. But it is grueling and stressful, and By the time I het 50 I was over it. These decisions are not taken lightly. If PResident Biden does drop out he hast o make damned sure the organization he built gets out here and wins this one for him and for Kamala. She's a bit to the left of Biden. She will make sure the things he wanted to accomplish in his second term get done. She has grit energy smarts and determination. But we have to get off our asses and make it happen. Us. We have to show up.

But what WILL happen, is that Donald Trump will fill all remaining liberal Supreme Courts with Conservative replacements, and decide the fate of millions of Americans for generations to come.
The religious right will take over our government, and dictate to Americans what is "moral" and what is not. And our laws will be based on that.
Gay marriage will be overturned.
And much, much more.

Biden is not an underdog. He's literally the President of the United States.
It's sad that ego and inertia brought the Democratic party to less than three months before a critical election in American history before the best interest of the party and country was honored.
Someone said something about a 55-year history of service. Admirable, but it doesn't take much to realize that politicians also have expiration dates. Biden and what he represents has gone sour.

R161 US Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell told Kinzinger that “(c)ommon things were used as weapons, like a baseball bat, a hockey stick, a rebar, a flagpole – including the American flag – pepper spray, bear spray.”
The rioters “had all these items,” Gonell said, “used to attack us. Those are weapons.”
As CNN has reported, rioters also used knives, stolen police shields, a stun gun, fire extinguisher and more. Hand-to-hand combat led to more than a dozen officers being sent to the hospital, some of whom had bone fractures and concussions.
3 people inside the Capitol had guns.

It may interest you to know that the people who run campaigns, the numbers crunchers, and the focus groups, etc. have studied voter behavior and studied language and rhetorical devices, etc. and they use these when crafting their strategies and tactics for a campaign. So as R167 and R173 allude to it, they are vaguely correct. And the influence of reality TV on our social interactions, our perceptions, started with the Apprentice. It was supposed to be a joke. Trump wasa cartoon character, a failed businessman and someone who embodied all the crass, crude behaviors and style of what Middle America believed about NEw Yorkers. The slimey real estate developer from Queens. And that scripted image is something Trump came to own and embody and dumbassed American viewers believed it. They bought it.
Patrick Radden Keefe wrote about it in the New Yorker, and Emily Nussbaum was talking about it on NPR the other day. he was discussing her book about Reality TV in general, but said it specifically started with Trump's Apprentice. The people who put together these shows, study the viewing public. Just like back in the 50's when the soap salesmen of Madison Avenue, decided to use the basic advertising tenets to promote political campaigns, it was in it's nascent stages in 1948, during various campaigns in California, but by the time of Eisenhower's 1952 campaign, certainly by the time Nixon ran against JFK, the ad men were in charge. And the numbers crunchers started examining voter behavior seriously by the early 60's. They know exactly what to do to elicit the responses they want. Ask Frank Luntz about language usage. He was the Republican boy genius who collaborated with Newt Gingrich back in 1994 to give us the Contract for America. Voter behavior is studied. And those guys weaponized the "low information voters." If you don't want to be influenced, stop watching TV news shows. They really bring nothing to the table anyway in terms of accurate, serious information.

I was happy he dropped out. First, I’ve been aware he’s been acting like a mentally-physically debilitated person for quite a while. Because I don’t just watch confirmation-bias liberal news commentary (Rachel Maddow still rationalizing up until 3 or 4 days ago, e g) or mainstream media.
This was a situation that needed to be resolved. Today a lot of people seem to react to issues of governance as if it’s all a TV soap opera. It’s all about drama, and how they feel. It’s serious business. People here have been championing running a man in obvious mental-physical decline for another four years. I have to ask, what happened to your judgment?
Personally I never cared for the man, he’s been historically on the wrong side of many issues, consorted with segregationists, has usually favored war over diplomacy, and was/is a a chronic liar who had to drop out of a primary for telling lie after lie. He has probably also been lying about his medical condition despite what is in the best interests of the nation.
So I don’t like and would never even consider voting for Trump. But I also haven’t let Trump derangement syndrome blind me to the faults of other politicians. I just think like this and always have, so what can I say? It’s a relief Biden is out and we can move on.

I don't understand this worship of politicians. They are our employees paid by us. Our job is to hold them accountable. All politicians are corrupt to some degree on both sides They all lie and they don't give a rat's ass about their constituents. They love the money, attention, and the power it gives them.

That fat, fucked-up diaper-wearing DOOFUS won't win.

The worship of politicians is indeed troubling, and in recent years the media has been complicit in it. (The media where now almost every anchor person and reporter has to look like a movie star, btw). The press used to keep us informed and had a healthy skepticism and disrespect of hero-worship. A well as being much more investigative.

Joe Biden is a fucking HERO. This is what it looks like to put the country first. The Dems are in zero chaos, this was a strategic adjustment that our leaders directed, right down to the timing, the endorsement of Harris, etc. They are in full control and they want to win! Nancy in particular is *extremely* shrewd and strategic. She takes herself out of equations, and uses cold-blooded logic to make decisions. It’s all about the numbers with her, and the numbers do not lie! When you have a card that can’t win, you reshuffle the deck.
Just do whatever Nancy says and we will win. Yes, it’s shocking, but we actually needed the shock to take back the narrative from the media (who are ALL IN on Trump because advertising $$$ and other perks). Dem strategists and leaders made the right call on Joe. Joe, we thank you for loving people and loving our country, and for your faithful service. You saved us from a second Trump term in 2020 and we are forever grateful to you for serving America with grace, generosity, and kindness.
It seems like there is indeed a lot of momentum for Harris. We shall see. She cannot be coronated as others have stated. If the will of the People is behind her, we can still win this thing. Remember, we outnumber them. We just need voters to turn out, and we have to plug the holes in the blue wall. It won’t be easy, but it is indeed possible. Do you not understand just how many Americans hate Trumps guts?!? Even people who aren’t left do too. A lot of hatred for him churning. Dems need to stir that pot while simultaneously delivering the right message, a message of hope that we can go forward. America finally “gets” Trump and they don’t like what they see. He’s unlikeable. Whether that will translate at the ballot box is another story….that’s where each of us can make a difference. Talk to the people you know, just say “we gotta stop Trump” that’s it. Everyone needs to help stop Trump.
We are living through a really dynamic time. It’s a lot to take in. But take heart…..we CAN still win, and I am starting to get excited about it!! Vote blue no matter who, my loves!!!!

No it is not. If he put country first he would have not run for a second term.

And then you unceremoniously dumped him on his ass, after 55 years of public service.
Yeah, thanks for NOTHING!

Wrong r210. This can’t be about emotion, only reason. The numbers proved that Joe could not win, and had he stayed on that ticket, he would have continued to hurt down Dems.
R209, unlike say RBG or Hillary, once Joe had clear numbers, he made the right call. I totally agree, he should have passed the baton earlier, BUT if we can keep a tight strategy, Joe waiting actually helps us. Now the GOP has to scramble to develop a game plan against a ticket that will look way young and less crazy. That is a good thing.

R207 How are you posting if you are blocked from posting? I sympathize. I got banned a few days ago for 24 hours because I didn't 100% agree with everyone who is a progressive even though I am also a Democrat. If you don't agree with everything some poster says downvote you and you get banned. This place is an echo chamber. No new or opposing ideas are allowed

This has happened to me a couple of times as well. They say it's one insane person with several fake accounts to rack up the necessary down votes quickly.

I can't believe any Democrat thinks Biden should have stayed in the race. Do they think dementia is one of things that IMPROVES with time? Biden was clearly in no condition to run for another four years. He thinks Beau was killed in Iraq, FFS.
I doubt there's a single Dem voter out there who's thinking "Oh good, we can all relax now, Kamala's a shoo-in." Everyone knows Kamala (or any other candidate) is facing an uphill battle. But at least there's hope now. And all the criticisms of Biden's age have now transferred to Trump, who is now America's oldest ever presidential candidate (and would be 81 by the end of his second term).

There were certainly laments about both candidates being so old, but the criticism of Biden that knocked him out was criticism about him running with dementia, not for being old.
