I wonder how the Supreme Court will rule when it makes it's way there. That's why they are doing this. They think the court will rule in their favor now and they're probably not wrong. It's clearly unconstitutional but that doesn't seem to matter these days.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

R22, that's such bullshit that Christian's always spout to excuse not following commandments. Their entire faith is based on sacrifice to propitiate Original Sin which is exclusively Old Testament. Also, Jesus himself said the Old Testament commandments weren't going anywhere.
From Matthew 5 (Sermon on the Mount) 17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

According to wiki, the Quran has a similar set with an interesting variation.
“You shall not kill/murder” becomes “ Do not kill your children for fear of poverty” and “Do not take a life except justly”

R124 God meant gluttony of GAY SEX. It’s in the Trump revised edition of the Old Testament.

How does anyone still think Books of religion were some god or allah telling a bunch of men to write something down? A burning tree and stone tablets?????
It's one of the most ridiculous conspiracies ever, ever propagated. Spread THAT word.

We need to talk about the adultery part, then. Is it for the future child brides of Louisiana?

Xtians can’t think for themselves. They can only do what the Sky Dom tells them to do.
Fortunately for them, their Sky Dom gives them a “Get Out of Hell Free” card, so the rules don’t really apply to them anyway.

Louisiana has always been a shithole, and always will be a shithole.
By any metric, Louisiana ranks at or near the bottom: education, public health, income. Except for crime, where Louisiana ranks near the top.

A Texas secessionist claims he’s working with a new secession movement in Louisiana and Florida.
[QUOTE]Miller told Newsweek, "Florida and Louisiana are newer [independence movements] but are already expressing political and legal resistance to federal overreach. Given the federal government's complete lack of a spirit of reform, if the gulf between their voters and federal policy continues to grow, their push to exit could accelerate greatly."
[QUOTE] The Florida and Louisiana secessionist movements Miller referenced are apparently much newer and Newsweek could find little information about either online. A YouGov survey published earlier this year found 24 percent of people in Florida, and 23 percent in Louisiana, would support their state leaving the U.S. and becoming a fully independent country.

The defenders are being disingenuous. It’s not about teaching basic morals (don’t murder, steal, etc.) which obviously are taught to most children by their parents. It’s about imposing evangelical Christianity upon kids in public schools, and eventually in all public spaces.

It's funny that there are successionist movements in Louisiana and Florida. Since it's hurricane season, let's watch how much federal money they suck up for disaster relief in the next few months.

[quote]The legislation that Republican Gov. Jeff Landry signed into law on Wednesday requires a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in “large, easily readable font” in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities.
I bet the “large, easily readable font” is Comic Sans, which apparently has the power to give literacy to some of the most illiterate kids in the nation.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | June 22, 2024 6:36 PM |
What will the penalty be if someone uses a font not considered "large and easily-readable" to display the commandments? Arrest? Stoning? Flogging?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | June 23, 2024 12:22 AM |
The first commandment really should be “Thou shalt NOT use Comic Sans.”

by Anonymous | reply 154 | June 23, 2024 12:29 AM |
The actual version written into the law, if anyone’s curious:
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
I AM the LORD thy God.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven images.
Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

R157 If women and girls being denied abortions from the day of conception hasn’t woken up people to the dangers of Christian Nationalism, I doubt that making the Ten Commandments mandatory in public schools will.

Kids need to learn not to covet other people’s stuff. They should be taught to earn money and buy their own stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | June 27, 2024 5:15 AM |
I agree 100%, R159. I buy my own manservants, and if they were stolen from me, I’d kill the thief because he broke the commandments, which would make it a justified killing!
