R53 is, sadly, correct. These are white-collar crimes that carry no mandatory prison time, and it is extremely rare that someone actually goes to prison for them. For years we've been yelling that we want no special privileges for Trump -treat him like everybody else. So if he walks with a slap on the wrist, we got what we asked for.
But if we carry that over -his bail should be revoked now on all his other cases and he SHOULD be awaiting his trials in jail. I'm sure that would speed things up in Florida (just as I'm sure it won't happen).

Yes, R40, he lost in 2020 and he's even less popular now. The sentencing is by the Judge. I'm sure all that time Trump spent insulting the Judge and ignoring the gag orders and sleeping in court will encourage the Judge to be VERY lenient.
Don't expect another J6, folks. Individual acts of violence and craziness, yes, maybe even getting somebody killed because there are so many guns, but no mass significant protests. Most of the MAGATs know they aren't going to accomplish anything other than getting arrested and Trump won't do squat for them.

Really doesn’t matter.
The felony is largely irrelevant in almost all aspects of decision making on the next election, which is based simply on whether people want Joe Biden to continue to be President. That number is underwater and will never turn around. No conviction will make Biden look like a better option to people who feel like the country is in the wrong direction and needs to change.

That will be true no matter the election of November 5, 2024 (my 75th birthday, on which I intend to celebrate the rest-election of President Joseph R. Biden).
Do you imagine that the 2020 Blue states will turn Red this year? That Trump is the new Grover Cleveland?

He will not get jail time but I see probation in his future and what would really make it great is throwing in some community service working with migrants or cleaning up roads would bring me great satisfaction.
PS he can’t vote in Florida as a felon unless white boots makes an exception. There are other conditions that can be met allowing him to vote after paying the fines and completing his sentence.

Trump isn't Bill Clinton. He doesn't give a shit about his legacy in the sense that many mean it. He literally only cares about the here and now. All that matters is whether this leads to him behind bars and to the extent this verdict impacts the November election.

R209 Correct, nothing significant will happen. “Normal people” are happy because they see politics simply as a sport of gotcha moments. It’s like to Gore Vidal maxim, “It is not enough to win. Others must fail.” He can still run and probably win the Presidency and do all sorts of irreparable harm. But it will not matter to the “normal people” because for one bright, shining, beautiful moment in history, they felt morally superior.

The problem is they are NOT. They are fully and consciously voting FOR him in opposition to a present they feel no hope for and a leadership they have no faith in.
[quote]49% agreed to some extent that elections in the country don’t represent people like them; 51% agreed to some extent that the political system in the US “doesn’t work for people like me;” and 64% backed the statement that “America is in decline.” A whopping 65% agreed either strongly or somewhat that “nearly all politicians are corrupt, and make money from their political power”—only 7% disagreed.

[quote] They are absolutely NOT voting for Trump in any hope that he will make anything better [R264].
R267 Independents who are supporting Trump have specifically said they are voting for him because they trust him more on the economy. Trump only inherited Obama’s good economy, but it was still a better economy than the one we have now. That’s all they remember.
[quote]They have decided they are such bitter cunts that they are praying that if they can just piss off liberals enough, then by magic they will somehow feel better. But honestly, I don't give a fuck. There are more of us than of you, and we will win in November, in part because most Americans will just not want to vote for this convicted felon.
You keep making all these generalizations based on what… your feels? “There are more of us”… no there are not. The polls are telling you over and over again, there are not. Every poll is saying the same thing, independents are not voting for Trump because they love him, they are voting for him because he is the only option if they want any form of change from the present.
I am sorry that America will never live up to your halcyon ideals. This is a shitty country where everybody hates each other. You demonstrate that as much as anybody.

Well, that's idiotic on the face of it. This is why I have absolutely zero faith in what anybody is telling pollsters these days, even if the polls themselves are adding up the numbers and reaching people. It's just such nonsense. Trump left an economy in shambles, and has never had the faintest fucking idea how anything works, other than stealing and grifting and not paying anybody. This is why I can't even pretend to take this shit seriously.
I don't have halcyon ideals about America. I expect it to make the bare minimum of intelligent decisions in 2024 as they did in 2020. Don't vote for crazy, grifty, fucked up, and bitter. That is all I ask, and I will be proved right in November.

This judge seems determined to exact some kind of penalty. So I am thinking he will be sentenced to prison, like Michael Cohen was, but the sentence will be suspended and he will be given house arrest for a period of 6 months or so, and some fines. House arrest would have to be structured. So no social media, limited number of phone calls and visitors. Supervision. He won't like it. He will appeal based on this being election interference.

I haven’t yet made my way through all of the comments, and I know this is a cardinal sin on DL, but I wanted to post that a not unsubstantial portion of Trump’s likely electorate (the “saner” among the GOP) were polled as saying their support would be lost if he were to become a convicted felon before the election. Along with the Kennedy defectors and lost libertarians, Trump might find the margins much tighter as the election draws nearer.
Again, apologies if posted/discussed already.

People saying him being convicted won't matter -- huh? Aside from his rotted brain simpleton base, it sure will. Would you trust a convicted felon (34!) to manage your money? Would you trust convicted felon (34!) to date your child or your sibling? Would you trust a convicted felon (34!) with the keys to your beloved momma's house?
You would not trust a convicted felon with any of those things. None of them. Especially not with the personality of DJT. No one would, not even other felons.
Ultra MAGA morons will stick with him but he is done with the regular people who might have spared him their votes. DONE.
If it wasn't an issue with those other than his base, why was he so concerned? Why is FOX so butthurt? Why appeal at all? Why not eat the charges and be proud?

To reiterate how phenomenally stupid r289 is, here is The Nation’s 2020 endorsement of Bernie Sanders
[quote]If Bernie Sanders had simply demonstrated that it is possible to wage a competitive campaign for the presidency without relying on wealthy donors, corporate funders, or secretive PAC money, he would have earned his place in history. If all Sanders had to show for his two campaigns for the presidency was the greatest leftward shift in the political discourse since Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s second term—putting not just Medicare for All but also the Green New Deal, free public higher education, fair taxation, cancellation of student debt, housing as a human right, universal free child care, and an unwavering critique of the billionaire class firmly onto the political agenda—we would owe him our gratitude.
[quote]If his contribution to the debate on foreign policy never went beyond refusing to endorse trade deals that harm workers, denouncing America’s endless wars, and reasserting Congress’s control over presidential adventurism—and had not also included defying AIPAC and the Israel lobby, reminding Americans that many of those crossing our borders are fleeing dictators sustained by Washington, and maintaining his long-standing rejection of authoritarianism at home or abroad—we would still recognize Sanders as a prophetic figure. But he has accomplished much, much more. As of this morning, Bernie Sanders—a Jewish grandfather with an indelible Brooklyn accent—is the leading contender for the Democratic nomination. He got there by forging a movement campaign that expands our understanding of what can be achieved in the electoral arena and that invites us to imagine that government of, by, and for the people might actually be possible….
Now I posted this not only because I enjoy pointing out when a profoundly stupid person makes a mistake, but because I want to draw a contrast between how the Nation talks about someone who inspires them, as opposed to someone who does not.
[quote]We still believe that Biden would be a uniquely weak challenger to Trump, forfeiting the high ground on corruption, the Iraq War, and even #MeToo issues while being forced to defend his record on mass incarceration, bankruptcy revision, and his coziness with credit card companies and the banks. Still, the worst that can be said against Biden is that he’d probably lose the election.
This is the reality we face today. We have a uniquely weak challenger going up against a convicted felon. And the only people confident the convicted felon will lose are complete idiots, like R289, who did not know The Nation was liberal.

No, he’s been extremely well estimated. There is a myth of Biden having been underestimated has largely been spread by his administration. Biden was a career Senator from a tiny corrupt state. He was in bed with credit card companies most of his career like Lieberman was in bed with the insurance industry. His unpopularity right now is a result of him not having the correct qualities to be President. Biden barely won an election due to Trump’s catastrophic mishandling of the pandemic. He is certainly to lose due to his mishandling of the post-pandemic.

R375 Trump does not have ANY good Presidential qualities. And he is still BEATING Biden in every swing state poll. He barely lost to him four years again and Biden had a significant advantage in all the polls then. You do not appear to understand the difference between Biden not being unpopular then and now being very unpopular.
This would confuse me, because surely this is an easy concept to grasp.
However I want to take a look at what you wrote at R346.
R345 wrote: “Very interesting to read the replies in this thread. It's like a completely alternate universe and alternate reality. Very worrying.“ and then provided a link to a MAGA twitter.
To which you replied: “What are you saying, [R345]? That DLers are deluded, that WE are the insane ones? That MAGAts operate in reality?! Are YOU nuts?? Because that is what your words denote and imply.”
Now a fairly dull child would have understood what R345 was saying, that the comments in the linked MAGA twitter account were worrying him. But you did not UNDERSTAND that. You do not understand extremely simple abstract concepts. Your thinking is somewhat along the lines of how a dog thinks when they see that disappearing trick with a blanket.
It’s actually quite remarkable.
Are you allowed to operate a motor vehicle?

Moreover, nobody ever asks for the Trumpian meaning of "rigged," either. CF Trump knows only his world of what was proven: bribes; hush money; NDAs; election interference. So like the tax cheat who is convinced everybody else cheats, too, CF Trump, CONVICTED RIGGER and PROJECTOR EXTRAORDINAIRE, accuses others of similar nefarious actions.
I don't think attacking this jury is a winning strategy. Many Americans have served on juries and might not care to hear our participatory system of justice maligned.

Comment from Yahoo:
"Except for the fact that when he was president gas prices came down, unemployment went down, we didn't have rampant inflation like we do now, we weren't spending billions of dollars on other country's wars, we didn't have a bunch of mandates to buy electric cars and other garbage nobody wants, and we didn't have millions of illegals flooding into the country. Please, tell us, what is Biden promissing? What has he done for us as president?"
by Anonymous | reply 399 | May 31, 2024 4:04 PM |
Gas prices fell because of Covid with fewer people working and driving and thus less demand.
Unemployment reached 20% under Trump. The US had a net loss of 3 million jobs under Trump (thanks to Covid, not that his policies helped)
We have spent billions on other country's wars (and in bolstering our own defense) under every President of the United States since FDR. We continued to do so under Trump.
There are no mandates to buy an electric car or "any other garbage nobody wants." There are incentives, but MAGA doesn't understand the difference.
The Republicans had a chance to stop the "illegals" by voting for a Republican bill revising the immigration laws earlier this year. They didn't.
Talk about your low-information voters.

I actually think Trump would enjoy jail because he would be the big man on campus in his mind, and the other inmates his minions. It would also make him look tough to his cult.

Here's just one small example of something Joe's improved, for the tards: Earlier this year, Biden capped the price of Albuterol inhalers-- a life saving medication for asthmatics-- just as he did for insulin, for those on Medicare.
President Joe Biden is taking on Big Pharma as no other president has ever done and helping the "little people" afford life saving medications. Many we're having to travel to Canada to try and afford their insulin because they couldn't pay the prices here in our country.
To those asking: "What has the Biden administration done?", those are only two of the meds they've made more affordable. You're welcome to Google the current list of drugs that Medicare can now negotiate for a better price for seniors, which directly impacts elderly Americans in a positive manner.
These are medications that the Republicans want to go back to their original, higher prices (or worse) because they simp for Big Pharma. They're on record saying this. Those meds will go back to those astronomical prices, should the Fat Orange Shit be reelected.
To those who don't think this is a big deal, that average Americans can better afford life saving medications? Eat the shit out of a homeless person's ass. Eat it all, lick it clean. You're an evil p.o.s. THIS is what a real president is supposed to be doing for Americans.

R443, WTH cares what these a-holes say? Trump will have no bases for appeal. Maybe some think that not liking a verdict is enough, but such is not true.
Where did the judge err? Is Trump going to claim his lawyers were incompetent? Was the jury somehow compromised, the jurors that both sides accepted? Did they disregard pertinent evidence?
Will CF Trump falsely claim he wasn't given a chance to speak in defense?
Appeals, moreover, are assessed only on the official transcript; nothing is re-litigated. Witnesses are neither re-questioned nor added if "suddenly" found.
It is, lastly, beyond late to gripe about the location/venue, as CF Trump did at the mic afterwards. Not a legit cause for appeal.
Any appeal won't get to the SCOTUS.
And CF Trump will be lucky if those he's accusing of "rigging" don't sue him.

That's why he says whatever. All he cares about is what he wants right now. And right now, that's the election and campaigning in front of people. I didn't know this about the sentencing process. Interesting. Convicted Felon Donald Trump is going to be interviewed by some "Regular Joe" from the Probation & Parole department? Oh, the ignominy for a former POTUS!
Not just any regular Joe. This Joe may also have a degree in a field related to mental health, if not a CJ degree. And worse for the CF: It'll be a Joe with extensive experience in the care and handling of sociopaths and psychopaths.
This is too good to be true. The only thing that could make it better is if the report is available to the public.

A lawyer on a podcast pointed out that if CF Trump were sentenced to, say, three years (like Cohen) he’d be sent to a state prison but if the sentence is reduced to a few months, he’d be sent to a jail, which in this case is everyone’s favorite lockup, Rikers. One thing the judge will consider is if he expressed remorse (Cohen did and gave evidence at his own trial; Trump did not take the stand) and whether he was likely to break the law again (you betcha).

Not a concept Convicted Felon Trump has ever needed to find words for. He did though say that the entire trial was rigged by a fascist dumb President, and that the conflicted judge was a devil. This might not necessarily work in his favour.

How the hell do you rig a jury trial.
There were 12 jurors and 6 alternates, drawn from a jury pool of NYC voters. Trump and his lawyer had control over the jury selection process. If they thought any of the potential jurists were biased, they could have nixed them.
What are the odds of picking 12 Democrats/Biden fans, and what are the odds of getting all 12 of them to unanimously convict him on all 34 counts from a jury pool of thousands.

R469, I don't just mean the break-in. I mean the cover-up and fall-out as well. Nixon admitted he let everyone down, which is light years away from anything you'd ever hear from Trump. You're right, though, he was a complete nutter. The White House tapes are essentially a record of his descent into madness (or possibly a gradual unmasking of the madness that was already there).
by Anonymous | reply 497 | June 1, 2024 6:29 PM |
Felon Trump exposes his madness every time he speaks at length in public now, though tragically he believes his own berserk logic. If he's like that in public, imagine what he's like when he thinks he can 'speak freely' in private. Without doubt we will in due course jaw-droppingly find out.

Y'all! Y'all t hink RIker's is a hell hole? Gurl, wait until he comes to Georgia. If he is convicted in GA, and he well may be, he will face the real possibility of Georgia state prisons. People die in Georgia prisons. They are rat infested and filled with vermin, disease, and stank. Yes. They stank. Poor plumbing. The thing is, Pardons are not easily obtained in Georgia. There are strict rules. And this milquetoast judge, while he does pander to the Right, he will be restrained a bit by the fact that here, in Georgia, when it comes to election integrity, we have TAPE. Yes. Our Secretary of State is the paramount cross over candidate. He got Independents and Dems to vote f or him simply by being ethical. LOL! How's that for a change? He's a Conservative, no doubt. But he stood up to that filthy Con Man, and taped him trying to steal votes. And then of course there was the parade of Rudy and Lindsey et al coming down here to pressure us like tough guys. Hah. So the public is not predisposed to be sympathetic. And the Fulton County jury will not go easy. OF course there's always a chance for a hung jury. But I'm lookin' foward to him having to sit down here worrying about that vermin infested hole we call a prison,...and the stank.

They tend to be older and 3-4 have passed away since the last election.

"I am not a Trumpeter, but...Biden is the worst president in history"
"I don't care who he had sex with 8 years ago"
"Why is this case brought now"
"the jury was all liberals, everyone knows that"
Why so many charges...they don't read them out like that normally...even liberals have said it should have only been 3 or 4 charges"
"he's already raised over 51 million dollars, that's how much people want him to win"

And more, much more than this.

On Fox today, the cute "former federal prosecutor" was threading the needle on being realistic and telling the audience what they wanted hear. Made the appeal grounds seem possibly stronger than they are, asserting that it's unlikely some counts get tossed, rest stand, on appeal. I inferred his message was that an appeal is a 50/50 "crapshoot" with guaranteed felony status revoked if defendant wins.

Could Mushtaq Gunja be any gayer ? And he's not that cute.

The extraordinary gaslighting that goes on in the name of defending Trump is really something to behold.

^ Mark Levin... 😂 🤦♂️ 🤣
by Anonymous | reply 588 | June 3, 2024 8:02 AM |
These guys like Mark Levin look nuttier and nuttier every day. Like cranky old Boomers who have nothing to do but bitch all day. But now they don't even make sense.

Stupid ass post, r589.

^ They always start out good but immediately run to "Boomer no good" 🙄

Still not seeing any reversible error caused by Merchan.

With Trump's habit of interfering in his lawyers' methods and strategies, his appeal will go nowhere. It will take years anyway, and he is going to be sentenced. He will not be free pending appeal. If that were the case every fucking criminal in Amurica would be out on the streets, "pending appeal."

“Christian” pastor calls Alex Soros “a deceiving liar who can barely speak”. Apparently irony does not bother e mind of this pastor.

Striking: @gtconway3d tells me that during Chris Licht's reign at CNN, after he called Trump a "narcissistic psychopath" on the air, CNN bookers stopped calling. Conway says he has indications CNN temporarily nixed him "to please Camp Mar-a-Lago."

Don Winslow still doesn’t trust George Conway. Still thinks he’s a fake
