I agree with you, R10. The prosecution in the case and the state itself, if possible, DELAY DELAY DELAY. If Trump starts suggesting the Supreme Court will save him, that might rattle them, and Roberts might fear for the reputation of 'his' court in history.

But... I wouldn't be surprised if the Supreme Court had the right to just barge in when it wanted to, to "settle things" of such national import - like before a presidential election, saying the people had a right to know the whole story before voting (i.e., whether the conviction will hold up).

Don't they vote on whether to take up cases? So out of the 6 rightwingers, we just need 5 to vote on it. And it does affect the vote in November.

I doubt the Supreme Court would get involved until all NY appeals have been exhausted. Even then Trump would have to ask them to overturn and he will be near death since it will take years to get through the NY appellate courts.

A decision in four months? Quite unlikely. The briefing schedule takes up a few months on its own. The government has 30 days to respond, but appellate courts routinely grant extensions for responsive pleadings. Then there are the weeks needed for the judges and their clerks to read through the briefs and transcripts in preparation for oral argument — while each of them are handling dozens of other cases. Add in the weeks after argument to write the decision. He’s not getting anything before the election.

In the NY case, that all happened before he was elected. No claim of Presidential immunity there. Probably not in the documents case either.

We have to see how it plays out but I don’t think the high court can save him. He won’t win absolute immunity - that would be crazy. The most they can do for him is delay things.
