I know it’s a classic, but I missed it.
Tell me about the Red Dragon Cheese thread

Do your own fucking research, you lazy shit.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 25, 2024 5:40 AM |
This is my research.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 25, 2024 5:46 AM |
It's been discussed a million times OP/R2.
It was old DL classic stuff - something that doesn't exist anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 25, 2024 5:57 AM |
I don’t care. Tell me.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 25, 2024 6:03 AM |
Google it mate.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 25, 2024 6:25 AM |
I DON'T KNOW YOU, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 25, 2024 7:09 AM |
It shows up in too many threads and I don’t know how to find the original.
Tell me.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 25, 2024 10:33 AM |
Pay someone to look it up for you.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 25, 2024 1:30 PM |
In a thread, long ago, and far away, there was a 7-Eleven…

Red Dragon cheese is a Welsh Cheddar with wholegrain mustard seeds and Welsh ale, coated in a bright red wax. This gourmet cheese combines the subtle sharpness and depth of natural mustard with the mild, piquant taste notes of the Welsh ale and traditional Cheddar.
Red Dragon is a buttery and spicy cheese with plenty of bite, but is not too hot, not only do the mustard seeds give Red Dragon its marvelous flavor, but also its texture. Red Dragon is aged for 3 months.

The original thread is long gone with some previous version of DL.
My favorite classic thread is Lesbian Potluck Wedding. A rare occasion where everybody fell for an EST. I think the OP even had to break it to us.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 25, 2024 2:42 PM |
It’s a soupluck not a potluck.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 25, 2024 2:44 PM |
This shit again? Really? DL wasn’t all that and never was.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 25, 2024 2:58 PM |
yeah, it was
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 25, 2024 3:07 PM |
DL is like everything else, including nyc, London, music, and gay life, r13.
In other words, at any given moment in time, it was always much better at some time in the past.

Does anyone still have a link to the "Let's be a Brooklyn Pizza Parlor in 1990"?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 25, 2024 3:08 PM |
Does anyone know Philip at Formaggio Kitchen?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 25, 2024 3:22 PM |
R18, Greg does.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 25, 2024 3:26 PM |
Tell me, dammit!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 25, 2024 3:35 PM |
Was it that the poster couldn't think of the name of the cheese?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 25, 2024 4:05 PM |
See? I’m not the only one asking.
Tell us!

The only old-time threads I remember are the ones from the 90s outing Vin Diesel "he likes bossy butch bottoms" and Kevin Spacey. Some people were upset that they were outed. A few pointed out that Diesel only dated in Europe.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 25, 2024 4:15 PM |
I believe he “preferred” to date in Europe.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 25, 2024 4:18 PM |
OP, show us your pecker & I'll tell you about the age old cheese.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 25, 2024 4:25 PM |
[quote] Does anyone know Philip at Formaggio Kitchen?
Yes.
Why do you ask?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 25, 2024 4:29 PM |
Didn't Ginny from Billing choke on it and die?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 25, 2024 4:30 PM |
Because the subject was old memorable threads, Greg.. Have a nice day.

What I remember from the RDC thread is that after sampling it the OP decided he liked it so much he want all of the remaining RDC. But the shopkeeper refused to part with all of it saying another customer might want some, too. The OP challenged and some debate ensued about the hypothetical customer who might want it and the money's the same, etc., etc. Something like that. Sound familiar or am I way off?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 25, 2024 4:37 PM |
Seeing Philip was always a treat when I would go to Formaggio Kitchen, or later, Whole Foods.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 25, 2024 4:42 PM |
Curses, foiled again!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 25, 2024 4:48 PM |
God bless you, r30.
There is still some simple human decency in this world.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 25, 2024 4:55 PM |
I would have been team OOP in that thread, I think. “Someone else might want some” is pretty silly. Unless there was something about the OOP that made him undeserving of so much delicious cheese.

I'm beginning to think DL is losing its institutional memory as we all age and face little cognitive slippages. The people screaming "Google It!" are either too young and get annoyed when the elders talk about the good 'ol days or worse: they're people who actively participated in the thread and can't remember jack shit about it beyond the cheese part, if even that.
I'm 59 and I've been here since 2002. There's a cohort of us who aging and there's no shame in admitting what comes with the territory. I'm not sure if my account at r30 is fully accurate. I had to give it some thought before posting. I'm curious what others recall.

It was a sandwich counter. The OP and a shitload of other posters were indignant that the lady behind the counter wouldn't just sell him a couple of pounds of it. She said, "I don't know you!" It was pretty amazing how many people were pissed on OPs behalf. Probably the same people who would freak out if the sandwich spot was out of cheese. The thread also included a shitload of people who reveled in revealing all of their favorite scammy ways to rip off various grocery stores and small businesses.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 25, 2024 9:27 PM |
Perhaps. I think some people think arcane DL knowledge is earned by putting in the time, and asking a question like this is cheating.
I myself have objected to threads that ask to explain ALL DL’s mysteries for newbies.
However, this was an irritating hole in my own store of DL knowledge,, and I think asking for an explanation of a single classic thread is acceptable.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 25, 2024 9:30 PM |
R37 you don't have to justify answering a legitimate question. It was before my time I'm afraid
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 25, 2024 10:06 PM |
The title of the thread was something like "A strange and amazing story I must share."
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 25, 2024 10:14 PM |
So, the thread was not really about Red Dragon Cheese .
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 25, 2024 10:15 PM |
I get it free at Ruth’s Chris

by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 26, 2024 12:32 PM |
So it was all a lie?

Muriel said a long time ago when deleting the older threads that it was all "a collaborative fiction"
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 26, 2024 12:49 PM |
r43 - Hah. That one just eked through after the 2008 version change.
