Although I guessed L for final, very pleased with outcome as I can't deal with grown women with little girl voices. Knew Margaret Sanger, and dale/vale.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 13, 2024 12:03 AM |
I guessed L as well. Misery loves company.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 13, 2024 1:10 AM |
IX seemed obvious to me.
I have no idea what the LXII was supposed to represent.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 13, 2024 4:40 AM |
I had to do some research recently connected to Title IX history. So, as soon as the clue said 50th anniversary, I know it was referring to Title IX, which was passed in 1972.

Great game today.

Long is still the black sheep.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 14, 2024 12:03 AM |
Easiest FJ in awhile.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 14, 2024 12:04 AM |
That was a rather unappealing threesome tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 14, 2024 12:05 AM |
Who is Beyonce?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 14, 2024 12:35 AM |
Very easy Final.
I was rooting for Long. What a find during Second Chances! Sad to see him go.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 14, 2024 5:25 AM |
Incredibly easy Final on Wednesday.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 15, 2024 6:49 PM |
Incredibly easy FJ Thursday…or at least it should have been.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 15, 2024 10:56 PM |
I knew the FJ was the St Louis Arch but I couldn't have come up with Gateway to add to the title.
I don't think the new champ really pronounced Dag Hammarskjold's last name correctly. But then that move lead her to a DD and basically gave her the game.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 15, 2024 11:41 PM |
^Me too!

One of them should've been able to associate Independence with Truman.

They miss a lot of really easy clues the bald guy freaks me out he was weird looking and why was he always leaning that way. The middle guy was just really dumb and also his multilingual whatever made me wonder if he's the Nunavut troll. And the whole time I kept wanting him to call him that Eskimo guy's name but I can remember what the Eskimos guys name was so probably look that up. I said some ages need to slap that girl her constant giggling and other affectations were really irritating.

Nanook. That's the guy I was thinking of.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 20, 2024 1:43 AM |
At least I won't have to worry now about whether to root for Mira or Taylor.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 20, 2024 1:44 AM |
Final seemed incredibly obvious as evidenced by all three getting it.
So, this is the last champions wildcard tournament of the season? YEAH.
That suggests the Tournament of Champions starts on Friday. YEAH!
Not sure how many contestants will be in the TOC since all the wildcard winners like Juveria and Yungshen will be a part of it. But it does sound like its going to last 3-4 weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 20, 2024 5:50 PM |
According to my cable guide, today through Friday's shows are titled "Champions Wildcard/Tournament of Champions," while next Monday's is the first to be titled "Tournament of Champions."

Yungsheng posted on IG that he will be back on the 27th.
I find him entertaining.

R32, Yungsheng is pretty hidden on IG. His handle is hanzo_shiba.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 21, 2024 1:55 AM |
Very good game. I liked both Jesse and Alex. Was impressed by Jesse's initial surge in the second half. And then Alex had a good surge at the end.
I guessed Mitt Romney for Final. Would have said Hillary Clinton had the clue not used the pronoun "He."
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 21, 2024 4:42 AM |
No one knew “The Great Escape” or “The Postman Always Rings Twice”?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 21, 2024 2:07 PM |
I was also stumped by FJ (because of the word "he" in the question) and was confused by the Gore answer - until I went back and looked at the question again and saw I overlooked that it asked who [bold]officially[/bold] declared his opponent the victor.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 21, 2024 2:38 PM |
R38 that "officially" threw me too. I think it was kinda too cute, tbh.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 21, 2024 7:31 PM |
Are the contestants now urged to hug each other after every game?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 21, 2024 9:28 PM |
Didn't realize 'they' have a boyfriend- new one for me. Guessed Billy the Kid for final (had no idea). Did know about mumblety-peg, Louis L'Amour, Galapagos, and Amy Tan.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 22, 2024 12:00 AM |
Totally confounded by that FJ, thinking they were looking for the name of a Victorian boxer. I thought it was that Gentle Jim Something that Errol Flynn portrayed in a Warners film. Or Jack Johnson of The Great White Hope fame.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 22, 2024 12:04 AM |
They are SOOOOO annoying!
Really rooting for sweet Mira to make a very strong showing tomorrow.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 22, 2024 12:05 AM |
Finally, three personable contestants.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 22, 2024 5:58 AM |
I knew Final had to be referring to the OK Corral and then guessed Wyatt Earp. Was pleased when my guess proved right.
I like all three contestants and will be happy whoever wins. But Deb does have a formidable lead going into tonight's game.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 22, 2024 5:35 PM |
Home alone tonight watching. Poor Deb, they/them cracked me up. I haven’t laughed out loud in a room by myself in I can’t remember how long.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 22, 2024 11:41 PM |
Poor Scott Hamilton! Hope he wasn't watching.
Knew FJ began with Mont.....but couldn't complete the name. Thought maybe....Montepulciano..... or is that just a wine? That was tricky.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 22, 2024 11:54 PM |
I saw MLR was trending on Twitter and thought it might be about her medical grifting. But no! I can't stop laughing.
BTW, I just read that Hamilton is declining medical intervention for his third bout of brain cancer.

Had NO idea American tourists flock to the town of Monticello, Italy! Guessed Anzio myself.
One of them should've known British off-license = liquor store.
Curious about a male (with penis?) who wants a 'they' cis-gal?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 23, 2024 12:21 AM |
I assume Deb is bisexual and has had affairs with women and so doesn't want to be labeled as....anything. Thus They, them, etc. Lots of straight men are perfectly happy with women they find sexually attractive who also have sex with women.
I've read so many British books that have mentioned the neighborhood off-license, that was a no brainer for me.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 23, 2024 12:39 AM |
“Apologies to Scott Hamilton” made me laugh out loud.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 23, 2024 1:56 AM |
Good game. Congrats to Deb.
No idea on Final, as was the case with the three contesants.
Looking forward to the Tournament of Champions strarting tomorrow. Its got something like 27 contestants.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 23, 2024 5:20 AM |
Yes 27 people in the Tournament.
Some interesting pairings there. Cris Panullo is back on Monday, playing opposite Ben Goldstein.
You may recall Ben, who won a total of less than $50,000 after five games, challenging Cris on air after he won his fifth and final game. Ben proclaimed, "I'm coming for you Cris."
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 23, 2024 5:24 AM |
OMG! Ray LaLonde and Justin Bolsen! We will all go crazy here.
I'm hoping the final three will be Cris, Juveria and Yungshen. With Yungshen the big winner.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 23, 2024 1:22 PM |
Oh God, the dreaded Ray LaLonde.
I'd rather sit through another round of Jeopardy Second Chance games than watch him play another game.

I guess Amy Schneider still retains the distinction of winningest woman in Jeopardy history. Hopefully next season a lady will emerge who can snatch that record from Amy.

Plus, I’m glad I found this thread.

Our beloved Cris was taken out by Uncle Fester.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | February 27, 2024 1:32 AM |
New champ was an expert on the Bible and 70s rock music. Both appeared to be weaknesses for Cris.
I don't remember Cris in the past often buzzing in when he didn't have an answer ready but he sure did a lot of that tonight. It didn't always work in his favor,
by Anonymous | reply 88 | February 27, 2024 2:10 AM |
Both winners so far are wildcard winners. They didn’t automatically qualify for the TOC. I think it helped them prepare having to compete to get this far. I expect Juveria to join their ranks.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | February 27, 2024 2:23 AM |
Well that really sucked!
I'm heartbroken.
By the way, maybe I'm misremembering how he looked the last time he was on, but it seemed as though Cris has been working out a bit.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | February 27, 2024 2:54 AM |
He shoulda spent more time studying!
by Anonymous | reply 91 | February 27, 2024 2:58 AM |
Well, it has been over a year since Cris last played the game. But from the moment he appeared on camera, he was not projecting confidence like he did in all of his previous games. His energy was completely different.
And did he suddenly go to the Matt Amodio school of buzzing in, saying "What is" and then thinking for 3 seconds before answering? He was doing that after virtually every clue. Didn't do that back during his 21 game winning streak.
The ironic thing is in the end, Ben Goldstein, who won just five games and a total of $49,298, actually beat Cris, who won a total of $748,286 in his 21 game streak, by $100.
At the end of that fifth game, Ben said, "I'm coming for you Cris" and actually succeeded in besting Cris.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | February 27, 2024 4:23 AM |
Cris had a weird horizontal line under his sweater. Does he wear a truss or a panty-girdle or something?
by Anonymous | reply 93 | February 27, 2024 4:46 AM |
My husband commented on that as well, r93. Wondered if Cris was wearing Spanks under his tight sweater.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | February 27, 2024 12:01 PM |
Who defeated Cris in his 21 game streak? Will they appear in this Toc?
by Anonymous | reply 95 | February 27, 2024 12:02 PM |
I did think he had put on some poundage since his last appearance.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | February 27, 2024 12:04 PM |
R95 - Andy Tirrell is the guy who defeated Cris.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | February 27, 2024 1:10 PM |
Oh I love adorkable Andy! He was just on and lost. I guess we won't see him on ToC.

by Anonymous | reply 100 | February 27, 2024 9:12 PM |
JEOPARDY! sure seems to have a far higher percentage of "trans" people among its players than that which exists in the general population. I was happy Hannah lost because that person's wager in the second Daily Double in round two was so foolish.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | February 27, 2024 11:44 PM |
🙄 And tonight we got the LGBTQ hug — well, minus L and B. More like GTQ.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | February 27, 2024 11:58 PM |
Glad the gay minister won. I forget whether Hannah was cis/Trans. Yungsheng is good-looking, but no.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | February 28, 2024 12:02 AM |
I don't remember the gay priest from earlier games. Glad he won. But what happened to Yungshen?
by Anonymous | reply 104 | February 28, 2024 12:15 AM |
Yungshen went the way of Cris P. yesterday. But, I like the gay priest.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | February 28, 2024 12:17 AM |
I can't remember his name but there was an older Asian guy who went quite far. I'm looking forward to his turn.

Long is long gone.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | February 28, 2024 12:29 AM |
First Cris and now Yungshen!
How much can a guy take?
I really like David the Gay Priest, and once he began talking I kinda remembered him from when he was first on the show.
But I have what might sound like a dumb question: do we know he's normal gay or is he one of those contestants from the past season who we all concluded was obviously gay and then turned out to have a wife?
If I remember correctly there were several guys like that.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | February 28, 2024 1:22 AM |
I forget whether Hannah was cis/Trans.
Really? I had never seen this person before but....isn't it glaringly obvious???!!!! This person referred to their "wife," so I guess this person was a man who transitioned to become a woman and is now married to a biological woman? Or maybe she's married to another trans woman? My head is spinning.!
by Anonymous | reply 109 | February 28, 2024 1:25 AM |
I never met a straight Episcopal priest.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | February 28, 2024 1:37 AM |
They exist, R111. You must have a very limited experience. I know two who were RC, but couldn't handle celibacy, both married to women.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | February 28, 2024 1:46 AM |
Lovely interview with Hannah. I'd missed any other mentions of her trans experience.
But I was rooting for Yung Sheng and I'm devastated that he's gone! Probably my all-time fave.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | February 28, 2024 2:53 AM |
Lovely interview with Hannah. I'd missed any other mentions of her trans experience.
She (or they) didn't mention that she was trans during her interview, she only mentioned that she has a wife. But the fact that she is trans was extremely obvious as soon as we started to get close-ups of her and she started talking. (As I mentioned, I had not seen her play JEOPARDY! previously.)
by Anonymous | reply 114 | February 28, 2024 3:28 AM |
R108, am I wrong, but I thought he gave a shoutout to a woman when he won. Nora??

OMG. Seeing this thread reminded me that Jeopardy was preempted by a basketball game and will be on in about 20 minutes and right now it's the middle of wheel of Fortune and luckily just remembered that and so now I'm going to watch it and not miss it so that's good. I'll probably flip back to the 227 Marathon during commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | February 28, 2024 4:41 AM |
That chick in leather jacket you reminded me of when they made those extra saved by the Bell episodes with that Tori chick.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | February 28, 2024 5:10 AM |
Very disappointed Yungshen is gone. He seemed to be off his game, just like Cris was. Nice that he acknowledged his husband Chris in Final.
Wonder if they're going to have some sort of Second Chances for ToC players who got eliminated early like Cris and Yungshen. Both seemed to have had the potential to win it all.
I have no memory of the gay priest playing before. When were his original games? How many games did he win?
Final seemed very obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | February 28, 2024 6:56 AM |
Fun game. I’ll be happy if the dishy vicar advances further in the tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | February 28, 2024 11:29 AM |
I knew it!
So much for David the Gay Priest.
Just as I thought when I posted @ R108:
"His wife, Emily Sibley, is a comparative literature professor, and she tried helping him expand his knowledge of books."
by Anonymous | reply 120 | February 28, 2024 11:59 AM |
Having a wife doesn't mean he's straight. DL gaydar knows better.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | February 28, 2024 12:05 PM |
I didn't say he was straight.
As I said @ R108:
"do we know he's normal gay or is he one of those contestants from the past season who we all concluded was obviously gay and then turned out to have a wife?"
In other words - NOT normal gay.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | February 28, 2024 12:14 PM |
r114, I was referring to the interview with Hannah that was linked at r110, in which she (she refers to herself as she) mentions her trans experience, not her brief chat with Ken during the game.
It's a sweet interview. I hope you'll read it.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | February 28, 2024 1:09 PM |
Unlike certain other contestants (ahem), Hannah seems like a nice enough person, not overflowing with ego. However, I hope she realizes that many folks will immediately see her as a guy, rather than passing for a cis-woman.
I didn't think our priest wore a collar last time, which is why he may not be as easily recognized now. Regarding a wife, I'll mention that when a co-worker asked the future wife of writer A J Jacobs' whether she'd be interested in a date (playing matchmaker), she replied, "Isn't he gay?" Some straight guys ping. Or, they're bi and marry for compatibility even if they have significant peen-interest.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | February 28, 2024 2:40 PM |
Trans people aren't out to fool you, r124. They just want to be content in their skins like we all do.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | February 28, 2024 3:28 PM |
But how someone can be "content in their skin" when they are obviously trans is hard to comprehend. It seems that, at least in some cases, people are more comfortable being perceived as, for example, an obvious trans woman rather than a gay man, which of course is all about homophobia.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | February 28, 2024 5:32 PM |
R126, life’s a lot easier when you just let people live their lives. This isn’t about her…it’s about you.

Which of my heart throbs will be ousted tonight?
Seriously, does anyone know why they've made a choice not to announce the next day's contestants at the end of each show as they used to do in the old days. I realize the info is online somewhere but I don't know why they wouldn't feature it on air as an enticement to tune in.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | February 28, 2024 9:20 PM |
The post game hugging just looks silly.

Jake seems to have too much of a sense of humor to be on the spectrum, R131.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | February 29, 2024 12:15 AM |
What an exciting game. Nick made a foolish DD bet. Jake looked like he would dominate for a while. And then Yogesh dominated in the second half.
I'm surprised Jake didn't fare better. I remember his initial appearances. He was a phenomenal player. Annoying at times, but phenomenal.
I had no idea on Final, but should have figured it out from the year mentioned.
Juveria is back tonight.

Noooooooo!
by Anonymous | reply 136 | February 29, 2024 11:27 PM |
I did like the festive silver nail polish on the drag contestant, though. And Luigi seems sweet. it’s just sad that all the main attractions have been toppled.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | February 29, 2024 11:32 PM |
Yeah, I bet the Jeopardy producers are upset that all the fan favorites won't be around for even the semi-finals. I'm upset!
by Anonymous | reply 138 | February 29, 2024 11:38 PM |
As someone who's not even much of a world-traveler, I thought FJ was a gimme. I'm shocked that Juveria didn't know the answer. Was she throwing the game, lol?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | February 29, 2024 11:39 PM |
Same here, R139. I was certain she'd know it, but would she bet everything to match Luigi was the suspense?
Am I the only one who's read [italic]Three Bags Full[/italic]?
by Anonymous | reply 140 | March 1, 2024 12:05 AM |
Was very surprised at the outcome. Thought she’d actually win the whole tournament. Her mastery of the buzzer was on point.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | March 1, 2024 12:15 AM |
How soon can we see a game between Cris, Yung Sheng and Juveria?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | March 1, 2024 2:16 AM |
Yikes! I figured that Juveria would do very well. She has a broad base of information and is quick on the buzzer. Very sorry for the three fan-favorites who lost this week.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | March 1, 2024 4:50 AM |
Gosh I so wanted Juveria. And she really was the smartest of her match. But what's his name lucked out with the double jeopardies. Still, she should have known FJ. It was pretty easy.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | March 1, 2024 7:28 AM |
Chunnel?? WTF?!
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 1, 2024 12:59 PM |
It's what they call the Channel Tunnel. She probably blanked on "What do they call the Chunnel train ... oh well, maybe this will work?"
by Anonymous | reply 146 | March 1, 2024 1:17 PM |
In her defense, "Chunnel" was my guess too.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | March 1, 2024 2:30 PM |
I'm not liking this ToC at all. All three of the ones I was rooting for are out.
I figured Juveria would end up winning the whole Tournament. At least she had an outstanding game, doing her usual fantastic job with the buzzer. Both Cris and Yungshen were off their game when they played.
In the past, when there were only 15 people in the ToC, there would get five winners of five games, then bring in the next four highest scoring players as "wildcard slots" to give people like Juveria another chance to winning. But now with 27 contestants, as soon as you loose a Tourament game, you're gone for good.
They're going to have to have a ToC Second Chances Tournament so Cris, Yungshen and now Juveria can play again.
The wording of the Final clue left me a little confused. I wasn't familiar with the Eurostar name. I also would have answered Chunnel.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 1, 2024 5:23 PM |
I miss Tyler the Marine.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | March 1, 2024 5:24 PM |
I'm not a fan of all this "second chance" business beyond now, finding it okay for the poor guys who ran up against buzzsaws like Matt, Amy, and the others, but not necessary for Juveria, Cris, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | March 1, 2024 5:39 PM |
finding it okay for the poor guys who ran up against buzzsaws like Matt, Amy, and the others, but not necessary for Juveria, Cris, etc.
But, as Ken noted Thursday night, Juveria is a Cinderella story. She came back to win both Second Chances and Champions Wildcard after originally being mowed down in May 2023 by Hannah during her 8-game winning streak.
America loves Juveria. I sure do. I don't want to see her knocked out of the Tournament so quickly and so permanently. I'd be much more willing to accept her being bumped off during the Semi-Finals or Finals. Gone after one single game of the quarter final just seems so cruel. I want the Cinderella story to continue a bit longer.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 1, 2024 8:14 PM |
I'm now wondering which of my other faves are coming up. So far, I'm not rooting for any of the semi-finalists.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | March 1, 2024 9:56 PM |
I'm not sure which answer to final was more moronic? Awkward to see Stephen flame out like that, obvious the other contestants wanted him around, too. Hilarious if he let's it be known he knew Final!

Another dreaded, obnoxious champ. The ToC as hate-watch TV.

by Anonymous | reply 155 | March 2, 2024 1:23 AM |
Once there’s a final winner of TOC, they should have the option to prove their mettle in a pas de deux with Amy Schneider — let her mop the floor with the champ and punctuate her reign as winningest woman in Jeopardy history.

Brian’s spastic reaction upon winning was tasteless.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | March 2, 2024 6:23 AM |
Brian could be annoying, but at least there's a gay man going to be in Semi Finals.
What did the gray ribbon on his lapel stand for? The pink one was for breast cancer.
Stephen was a mess. Stayed in the hole almost the entire game.
I thought Dutch Guyana was fairly obvious for Final, but apparently not to Brian or Josh

Yes, Brian needed a bit of humility. He comes off as a jerk.

I never cared for Ray, and I very much like Ike, so I’m happy with this result. Go Ike!!
by Anonymous | reply 172 | March 5, 2024 12:00 AM |
I had no idea of any Roman poets. However, I did know about gibsons, and that women powder their noses in the ladies' room (d' uh).
Thought Ray would steamroll through the game, but as with Cris and Juveria, not to be.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | March 5, 2024 12:10 AM |
R167, Ike definitely has BDF.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | March 5, 2024 12:40 AM |
Speaking of BDF, I think it’s brave of Melissa to not have used her regular season winnings to fix her Jimmy Durante schnoz .

Congratulations to Ike, whoever you are. I've never heard of you.
Ray didn't seem to be swaying around quite so much.
I had no idea on Final.
This ToC is going to be a very strange Semi-Final and Final as all the fan favorites have been eliminated already.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | March 5, 2024 5:48 PM |
I think Ray might have been off his game with his identical twin in the audience. Identical twins can have pretty intense rivalries and Ray’s twin was - at the very least - the better-looking one (one is always better looking).

Watch him walk off with this thing.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | March 6, 2024 12:02 AM |
Ditto, R186 and R187. Ben has always bothered me as well. He asks for the answers and gives his questions as if he is supremely annoyed. And they put him in this competition against Emmett, a very weak candidate, and a former high school winner — Justin, who did a damn good job.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | March 6, 2024 12:07 AM |
Is Ben on the spectrum?
by Anonymous | reply 189 | March 6, 2024 12:09 AM |
What bugs me about Ben is the way he grimaces so painfully and for so long before he responds, like he has no idea if he's going to be right....and then he always comes up with the correct answer. Can't bear him and the drama. Though he's probably just a sweet guy in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | March 6, 2024 12:21 AM |
What bugs me about Ben is the way he grimaces so painfully and for so long before he responds,
I know exactly what he does it. He knows the answer but can’t pull it out of the back of his mind. He grimaces because he’s mad at himself for not having the answer on the tip of his tongue.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | March 6, 2024 12:43 PM |
I like Ben. He's soft spoken and very knowledgeable. But I was sort of tired of him by the time he was finally defeated during the regular play.
The pausing to get his answer is essentially the same thing Matt Amodio did. But as r198 said, the anger we're sensing is likely because he's frustrated the answer isn't on the tip of his tongue. I see that anger/frustration at having to pause to remember things with a lot of older people. It must be especially frustrating for an academician who clearly knows a lot.
I was sorry to see Emmett flame out. Always a shame not to make it to Final.
I had no idea on Final.

Oy! Ben again!
by Anonymous | reply 206 | March 7, 2024 11:40 AM |
Ike fucked up his FJ wager. Third place couldn’t catch him. Ben had to bet enough to get to twice Ike plus one dollar. The only chance Ike had to win was bet nothing and hope Ben got it wrong,..which he did.
Imagine Ike in the final.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | March 8, 2024 2:14 AM |
Ike was all kinds of interestingly sexy. I'll miss him even though I'd never heard of him until now.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | March 8, 2024 3:40 AM |
I thought it was going to be an good contest between Ben and Jared. And it was for a while. That is until Jared lost his mojo after foolishly betting everything on a Daily Double in the second round.
But anyway, Ben moves on the the finals.
I've never heard of Ike either, but I've actually come to like him in the two games he played in for this ToC. When he's been paid as an actor, what show(s) is he on? Maybe I should check him out.
by Anonymous | reply 209 | March 8, 2024 6:26 AM |
R209 Ike has appeared in countless movie/tv guest roles. Check out his IMDb page. It lists appearances going back to the early 2000s. He's also done a lot of voice work. His two most prominent roles would probably be six seasons on "The Mindy Project" and his long-running stint on MADtv (114 episodes) where he played many characters. He even played Alex Trebek in a parody skit of Jeopardy! (below). Personally, that's the show I remember him from.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | March 8, 2024 6:48 AM |
I will never understand why these smart players bet all in double jeopardy. Especially if it's the last daily double. There's just not enough money on the board to climb back from that and, in this case, it would not have given him an insurmountable lead.
Just bet enough to take the lead, but not enough to lose the entire game should you get the answer wrong!
Just makes no sense.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | March 8, 2024 7:19 AM |
Ike would have won if he’d bet zero or a small amount.

Ben seemed to have more energy than ever before. He always seemed so quiet and passive in the past, but last night seemed highly caffeinated or something. He was giving off completely different energy.
I had no idea on Final and have never heard of whatever the correct answer was.
Hope each of the three get at least one win in before this is over.

Why didn't Troy bet enough to be $1 ahead of Yogesh? Or, doesn't that matter in Final?
by Anonymous | reply 235 | March 14, 2024 12:02 AM |
Uh….R235, cuz the win is all that counts in this Final. First to win three games wins the championship, The amount of money they have in each game is NOT theirs to keep.

by Anonymous | reply 238 | March 14, 2024 5:59 AM |
Another good game. Congrats Troy!
I came into the competition very disappointed Cris, Yungshen and Juveria weren't the ones playing. None of the three who are playing are favorites. But I must say, they're giving us some thrilling games. I'm coming to like all three of them.
Ben, who could be quite annoying with his soft voice and passive demeanor, has gotten some kind of personality transplant because he's speaking more assertively and standing more assertively too. He's even telling jokes and making some off the cuff comments. I initially attributed this to being highly caffeinated, but maybe something else is going on. Maybe show officials told him to relax and start speaking up, but the difference is for the positive.
Gutsy move on Troy's part to do a true daily double wager so late in the game. He seems incredibly confident in his game.
When Yogesh can be the first to buzz in, he's incredible in his knowledge. He continues to impress.
I hope each of the three wins at least one game before the tournament is over.

by Anonymous | reply 248 | March 15, 2024 11:59 PM |
R247 And he has seemed so careful about "arithmetic", once scribbling numbers on a pad before a daily double. I can only imagine he thought he was betting enough to win by $1 is Ben doubled his money. A stupid, sloppy error... unworthy of him.
by Anonymous | reply 249 | March 16, 2024 2:34 AM |

The person who runs the Final Jeopardy! website explains why Troy bet the way he did. It's in the section of the column: "Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions." It has to do with the special circumstances of the game where "the leader’s score is equal to exactly second place plus third place’s score."
He also snarks:
I would like to unequivocally state that Troy did not make any sort of wagering mistake whatsoever, and any reporter who says otherwise about this game is committing journalistic malpractice and should not be reporting on Jeopardy! strategy.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | March 16, 2024 9:18 AM |
Forgive me for asking questions the answers to which I should know, but is the winner of ToC determined by the number of games won or the total amount of money earned after 7 games? Or some other criteria?
And once ToC is over in a few days, what's next for the show? Are we restarting with 3 new contestants or are we picking up with a former winner?
TIA!
by Anonymous | reply 253 | March 16, 2024 1:41 PM |
First contestant to win 3 games. Don't know answer to second question.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | March 16, 2024 1:55 PM |
I didn't get to watch the game, but it's clear that Troy had to bet enough to clear Yogesh if he bet it all and got the right answer. In a tournament of champions you have to assume your opponents will know the answer, no?
by Anonymous | reply 255 | March 16, 2024 2:55 PM |
That was a fun CBC Morning feature, seeing Ken at younger ages. Not that he's exactly homely, but they sure know how to capture him within the game looking handsomer than he actually is.
Nice of CBS to publicize an ABC show.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | March 17, 2024 4:12 PM |
R257 Jeopardy! doesn't air on ABC everywhere. It's a syndicated show, produced by Sony Pictures, so while ABC Owned & Operated affiliates may have the broadcast contract for those cities, you can find it on non-ABC stations elsewhere. Examples: In Eugene, Oregon, the show airs on KPIC, a CBS affiliate; in Spokane, Washington, it's on KHQ, an NBC affiliate; and in New Orleans, it's on WVUE, a Fox affiliate.

Nice of Yogesh to shoutout his friend like that.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | March 19, 2024 12:01 AM |
HIs friend? Or his "friend"?
by Anonymous | reply 263 | March 19, 2024 12:26 AM |
Really rooting for Troy but he seemed to flag tonight.
I'll forgive him for Fiddler, that really was a trick question (of course, I knew it was JCS!) but, I mean.....42nd St? Hal Prince?? 1957??? Musicals are not his thing.
I at least hope Troy wins tomorrow so we can get 7 games.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | March 19, 2024 12:31 AM |
What happens after ToC?
by Anonymous | reply 265 | March 19, 2024 12:31 AM |
I thought that Yogesh was going to have a stroke the way he was wrestling with that buzzer. At times it looked like he was channeling someone from an old SNL skit. Just happy it wasn’t Ben tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 266 | March 19, 2024 12:33 AM |
Go Yogesh!!
He was determined to win the game. I thought it was foolish to do a true daily double when he was already in the lead in the second half, but he did it and guaranteed his victory.
Now, fingers crossed Troy pulls off the win for game 6 tonight, so we can get another exciting game and go to that 7th and final game.
This ToC is thrilling. Makes all the second chances and wildcard games we had to endure for the last six months worthwhile.
by Anonymous | reply 267 | March 19, 2024 5:22 PM |
Troy really should have already won the ToC. Like Juveria (sp?), he's clearly a cut above. Yesterday was just an off game for him.
Ben has the luckiest two wins EVAH. And my god he irritates me and I don't even know why. That weird smile thing he does as he answers? Ugh. No thanks. Of course, he's probably very nice in real life.
I kinda love Yogesh. He has some closet Sally Field lurking within him - he just really wants to be liked.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | March 19, 2024 5:52 PM |
I loved it when Yogesh thanked the people at Red Bull.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | March 19, 2024 6:00 PM |
r268, I agree with everything you wrote!
by Anonymous | reply 270 | March 19, 2024 6:07 PM |
I wonder if they filmed this entire ToC in one day or did they spread it out over two days.
If it was all done in one day, I imagine all three players are battling fatigue at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | March 19, 2024 6:14 PM |
Ben’s acting punch drunk.
by Anonymous | reply 272 | March 19, 2024 6:28 PM |
R268 said it all.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | March 19, 2024 7:43 PM |
Unfortunately, it’s primary night in my state tonight, so, fingers crossed that the champion of this SAUSAGE FEST isn’t crowned this evening. Between primaries and March Madness, our local affiliate enjoys telling its Jeopardy! viewers to go to hell.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | March 19, 2024 7:43 PM |
r274 When news or sports preempts Jeopardy! at its regular time, my station will air the episode in the middle of the night, often at 1 a.m.
They don't usually make an announcement they're going to air it there. You just sort of have to find. Luckily my DVR finds it for me.
by Anonymous | reply 275 | March 19, 2024 7:55 PM |
Are both Ben and Yogesh bachelors?
by Anonymous | reply 276 | March 19, 2024 8:28 PM |
Another great game tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | March 19, 2024 8:58 PM |
No, Ben is happily married.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | March 19, 2024 9:05 PM |
Ben mentioned a lady friend that he met through Jeopardy! It’s a little Harold & Maude in its structure, but he left the impression that he is off the market. No wedding bells yet, but enough to bring a little heat to Green Bay evenings.

I got the daily double right and wrong. I said, “Erevan! It’s in Turkey. Erevan is my an answer.”
Well, it’s not in Turkey -but I wouldn’t have written “Turkey” just the name of the city.
And the city can be spelled with or without a Y. So I would’ve been right while being secretly wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | March 19, 2024 9:13 PM |
I could swear Ben wears a wedding band. Will confirm to night. Not that necessarily guarantees he's married.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | March 19, 2024 9:38 PM |
R281 Yes. Ben has a wedding ring on. You can clearly see it in several moments during this local news report about him put up last week where they're interviewing him about Jeopardy! Around the 2:46 mark, there's a very clear shot of it.
Also the report in the next post talks about his wife.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | March 19, 2024 11:02 PM |
... and if you check out his FB page, his profile photo shows him with a woman, and one could probably assume that's his wife, or at least his romantic interest.

More of Yogesh's spazzy clicking to come!
by Anonymous | reply 284 | March 19, 2024 11:58 PM |
Not what I was expecting, but congrats to Yogesh!! Would never have predicted that I would be pulling for him to win it all, but . . . . 🤷♂️
by Anonymous | reply 285 | March 20, 2024 12:00 AM |
Congrats to Yogesh*, who has a sense of humor. Sad for Troy, and a bit of respect for Ben who seemed to realize he wasn't going to be champ vibe'ing "No problem, it's a game, no guarantees."
* Loved it when others beat out the spazzy clicking.

I swear Ben threw the game. Who doesn’t know Cumberland Gap. It’s THE most famous gap in the US. Come on. He wins if he gets that right.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | March 20, 2024 12:45 AM |
I don’t get to find out who wins until 2:07 AM. Thanks a fucking lot, channel 10.

r288, Channel 10 in Columbus?
by Anonymous | reply 289 | March 20, 2024 1:58 AM |
Yes. I complained online that their “special coverage” was an ill advised stunt to win those local Emmys the station likes to brag about at our expense and whomever was fielding our chat called me an asshole. Wheel of Fortune aired as always.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | March 20, 2024 2:16 AM |
r290, haha. I'm sure that person was probably just a huge Wheel of Fortune fan, which tracks.
Who doesn’t know Cumberland Gap
It was driving me crazy, I could t remember it! I knew it started with a C and there was a Grateful Dead song with the name. I was trying to remember lyrics but I had to go through the guitar opening in my mind and then the lyrics “I can’t stay much longer Melinda…the sun is getting high… I can’t help you with your troubles, if you won’t help with mine. I gotta git down…I gotta git down..gotta git down to the mine”
Too late. Couldn’t pull the lyric out of my mind because there was another whole stanza before “Gotta git down to the Cumberland mine” came up.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | March 20, 2024 3:13 AM |
God, if Ben would have correctly answered the EASIEST question ever, he would have won.
Poor Troy. He lost, what, three games because he didn't know FJ?
As I said upthread, Yogesh totally turned me into a fan with his charm and humor.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | March 20, 2024 3:40 AM |
In the heat of all the excitement of getting the Daily Doubles so close together, Ben didn’t stop to think for a nanosecond what the category (“Minding the Gap”) might be about. Very easy question that I got instantly.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | March 20, 2024 9:00 AM |
How was Cumberland Gap related to a son of King George? Was he the Duke of Cumberland or something? Maybe that clue was what screwed up Ben's thought process.
Look for Young Sheng and Juveria to be back with us very soon!

by Anonymous | reply 307 | March 20, 2024 6:26 PM |
I remember (and recall liking) Dan, Jason, Andrew and Larissa.
However Matt is even more psychotic looking than I remember.
I mean, tell me that's not the face of someone who could pass for a serial killer.

Arthur Chu is also going to be a contestant in the near future. His play followed the Chuck Forrest strategy, which is awful to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | March 20, 2024 6:36 PM |
Wasn’t Arthur Chu the one who snapped at Alex that one time?
by Anonymous | reply 310 | March 20, 2024 7:27 PM |
Is normal Jeopardy ever coming back?
by Anonymous | reply 311 | March 20, 2024 7:34 PM |
In a couple of weeks, R311.
Arthur Chu has enough self-awareness to have acknowledged that many viewers hated him. It's been a while since we've been exposed to his personality.
Matt Jackson, R308? Matt Amodio can be annoying, but not that bad. Was it you who was around in 60s/70s Jersey, too?
by Anonymous | reply 313 | March 20, 2024 10:38 PM |
How many times will we have to sit through Andrew? He seems to return every 6 months.

I'm all in for sexy Dan Pawson!
by Anonymous | reply 315 | March 20, 2024 11:02 PM |
Full line-up listed in link below.
27 contestants in total. Several familiar faces including Sam Buttrey, Andrew He, Amy Schneider, super-cute Sam Kavanaugh, Austin Rogers and more.
Looks like quaterfinals go for 9 episodes, concluding on April 1. Then it moves into the semi-finals.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | March 21, 2024 12:31 AM |
Is there something weird with the camera. how they all have pear shaped faces?
by Anonymous | reply 317 | March 21, 2024 12:32 AM |
R313 - I definitely didn't mean Matt Amodio since I liked the guy.
I meant Matt Jackson since he's on this week.
Go to the Jeopardy website and look at the picture of him and you'll see what I meant @ R308.
Utterly frightening.
by Anonymous | reply 318 | March 21, 2024 12:34 AM |
So glad to see smoldering Alex Jacob will be back.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | March 21, 2024 7:27 AM |
Good game. I was rooting for Pam. Too bad she missed final.
Andrew He started weak but got his groove back and did great on those daily doubles.
Someone from the Jeopardy! staff should have advised Andrew that a black turtleneck combined with his shoulder length black hair would not look good on camera.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | March 21, 2024 7:57 AM |
This invitational tournament is going to go on until early April. Supposedly regular games will start after that. Fingers crossed.
But that also means next year's ToC contestants will be selected from just 4 months worth of games (April through July) instead of the standard 10 months.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | March 21, 2024 8:00 AM |
Jason was one of my favorites, great that he's back!
by Anonymous | reply 322 | March 21, 2024 12:12 PM |
Are questions harder in the tournaments?
Do Asian women ever show up as contestants?
Do males always win ToC?
by Anonymous | reply 323 | March 21, 2024 9:30 PM |
Yes, sometimes, no.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | March 21, 2024 9:32 PM |
Oooh, jealous Jason would not shake hands!!! What a snub.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | March 21, 2024 11:28 PM |
I gotta say this wasn't really the old Jason from Trebek days. Noticed the lack of congrats.
Had no idea of Final, but managed LOT Polish Airlines and Aguascalientes, latter just in time.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | March 22, 2024 12:16 AM |
Leonard’s crossed arms. lol.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | March 22, 2024 12:17 AM |
Yes, sometimes, sort of?
by Anonymous | reply 328 | March 22, 2024 12:50 AM |
I got the final because I had to write a book report on it and felt the same way about it.
Very poor sportsmanship by both Jason and Leonard, They looked like spoiled brats.
by Anonymous | reply 329 | March 22, 2024 12:59 AM |
Ulysses seemed pretty obvious to me and I've never even read it or anything by James Joyce. Or anything by Woolf, for that matter.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | March 22, 2024 1:11 AM |
Jason was a dick - and Leonard looked stupid with those arms crossed through the ENTIRE GAME.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | March 22, 2024 1:29 AM |
WTF was with those two?
by Anonymous | reply 332 | March 22, 2024 2:51 AM |
R329, Is the group hugging mandatory now?
by Anonymous | reply 333 | March 22, 2024 5:28 AM |
Congratulations to Larissa. She did so well.
Jason didn't really answer many questions at all. He just happened to get the right answer on the daily double question where he bet everything. Betting it all seems to be almost mandatory in these tournaments.
Jason should have played some practice games before going back before the camera, just like Cris Panullo should have done before playing in the ToC. Jason won something 19 games several so we know he's capable do doing better. But after not playing for so long, Jason was likely rusty and needed a few games to get back in his groove.
Yikes, someone from the Jeopardy staff should have take Leonard assign and explained how bad he looked with his arms crossed like that for the entire game.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | March 22, 2024 6:07 AM |
Matt Jackson is as insufferable as ever.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | March 22, 2024 9:15 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 336 | March 22, 2024 11:59 PM |
Rather than the truly obno character I remember, this Matt is just sad on the spectrum.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | March 23, 2024 12:01 AM |
The look of shock on Terry’s face when she realized her FJ response was unacceptable was priceless.

by Anonymous | reply 339 | March 23, 2024 2:05 AM |
R338 I love that she was so clearly absolutely dumbfounded.

by Anonymous | reply 341 | March 23, 2024 2:37 AM |
Ulysses/James Joyce questions pop up fairly frequently on JEOP. They assume no one has ever read them. Which they haven't -
by Anonymous | reply 342 | March 24, 2024 4:04 PM |
When are they going to stop this tournament shit? It's getting boring. I want regular contestants again.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | March 24, 2024 5:01 PM |
Rosetta Stone had to be one of the easiest FJ’s ever. Maybe it’s just because when I was growing up there was a do it-yourself language course being advertised on tv and radio all the time called Rosetta Stone.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | March 24, 2024 5:42 PM |
I live next to a Rosetta Stone.
by Anonymous | reply 345 | March 24, 2024 6:09 PM |
But didn't the clue say something about the name being a capital city (or a location) in the Mideast? That's what steered my off Rosetta Stone even though it was the first thing I thought of.
by Anonymous | reply 346 | March 24, 2024 7:00 PM |
R346, the clue was: “'Captured in Egypt by the British Army 1801' is painted on the side of this artifact named for the city where it was found"
by Anonymous | reply 347 | March 24, 2024 7:11 PM |
OK, thanks. I never heard of a city in Egypt named Rosetta. That's definitely what threw me.

Rosetta is the western name for it. It’s called Rashid in Arabic.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | March 24, 2024 8:28 PM |
Thanks, R351. I also didn't get Final Jeopardy because I too never knew that the Rosetta stone was named after a city.
by Anonymous | reply 352 | March 24, 2024 9:22 PM |
They should have called it the Rashida Stone.
by Anonymous | reply 353 | March 24, 2024 10:33 PM |
Wonderful tribute to the 9000th episode and Johnny Gilbert at the very end.
I didn't realize Johnny was so short.
Hard to image in 1984 when this version of the show debuted, it only had 13 weeks to prove itself.

But sadly, he didn’t lose his ego or cockiness.
Glad he lost.
by Anonymous | reply 358 | March 25, 2024 11:56 PM |
I wouldn’t call Austin cocky or arrogant, I think it’s more a grating sense of humor. He’s pretty cute as Jeopardy contestants go.
by Anonymous | reply 359 | March 26, 2024 12:00 AM |
I like Austin, but he aged a lot. No surprise Amy steamrolled here, but we'll see how she fares against the other finalists ...
by Anonymous | reply 360 | March 26, 2024 12:04 AM |
DL fave Queen Amy extends her reign as the show’s winningest woman, putting the record even farther out of reach for future lady champs.

But, r370:
Scaramouche = Scarface = Al Capone
by Anonymous | reply 371 | March 26, 2024 2:44 AM |
For some odd reason, I thought Al Capone for FJ.
Maybe some time before I heard that he had scars, but I don’t know why I thought about him right away.
Glad Amy is doing terrifically.

At least he was a gracious loser, R365.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | March 26, 2024 6:21 AM |
Go Amy! Nice to see her back in form after she did so poorly in Masters.
Glad our time with Austin is mercifully short. I was dreading having to endure him for more games.
I initially thought of Al Capone for Final, but dismissed the idea (not making the Scarface connection) and decided on Machine Gun Kelly.

Anyone know Amy's dead name? LOL
by Anonymous | reply 377 | March 26, 2024 7:01 PM |
Amy and Celeste were lovely. Austin seemed lost and not at all his Richard Dreyfus at his worst self. Of course final Jeopardy was Scarface=Al Capon. I’m mystified that I, dullard that I am, was able to reason it out while my idols were not.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | March 26, 2024 7:17 PM |
You know as much as I disliked Austin in the past, I found him less objectionable than I expected yesterday.
Anyway it doesn't matter since Amy steamrolled right over him like the Road Runner running over Wyle E. Cyote.

R386, Nick Jonas’wife, whose name is difficult.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | March 27, 2024 5:20 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 388 | March 27, 2024 6:05 PM |
Several times in recent weeks, players have failed to put their answer in the form of a question during the second half.
Each time, the answer was correct and Ken accepted it. Each time, I kept waiting for Ken to later stop the game and announce a scoring change because of the failure to put it in the form of a question. Each time, that did not happen.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | March 27, 2024 6:19 PM |
I thought it was just me who noticed that, R389! Ben did it several times - I just assumed the judges were asleep at the wheel.
Eagerly awaiting the appearance of TOC champ emeritus CHUCK FORREST tomorrow!

It's been said that the tape editors have the ability to isolate the audio of each player, and if you think someone hasn't answered in the form of a question, you're more than likely wrong, and it's just the edit.

No tape editor is going to take out the words "What is" when editing a game where players get dinged for failure to say "What is." A tape editor is going to make sure those words are clearly heard, if they were spoken.

Great game tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | March 27, 2024 10:26 PM |
Tonight's game was much better than the fetid slog last night's game turned out to be. I was disappointed that XXL Jeaneane Garafslo won though.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | March 27, 2024 11:59 PM |
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all these tournaments a direct result of the writer's strike? Back then, they didn't know how long the strike would last and they had no writers. So they started recycling questions with previous contestants and called it Tournaments.
So, they may have overestimated how long the strike would last.

Frankly, Ben had such a weirdly petulant way of responding it was often hard for me to tell if he began with What is.....
by Anonymous | reply 398 | March 28, 2024 12:09 AM |
Our station aired last night's game again.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | March 28, 2024 12:13 AM |
R393 R394 I was going from memory about the editing, but I've read something related to this previously at the Jeopardy Fan Site under under "Andy's Thoughts" - the guy who runs the site - who seems to know EVERYTHING about the game. Look for that section in today's recap. But he states:
If you think a player failed to respond in the form of a question: you’re probably wrong. Viewers should also note a couple of things: firstly, the show has the ability to isolate contestant audio, regardless of whether or not it makes it into the final edit; secondly, in the opening round, it’s a warning offense if it happens, not a penalty;
And amusingly, it must be some kind of pet peeve of his, because he then adds:
thirdly, such complaints here on the site are against the Site Comment Policy.

by Anonymous | reply 401 | March 28, 2024 1:24 AM |
I’ve only recently started watching Jeopardy again after not seeing it for years and the men don’t seem to like it when the women win, except for Amy, who is, after all, a bro.

Especially the guy on the right. I forget his name, but I thought he was quite sexy though a little annoying in always trying so hard to "perform."
by Anonymous | reply 403 | March 28, 2024 1:32 AM |
The guy on the right was overconfident.
I didn’t get FJ. I knew “meso” means “middle” but didn’t know “nox.”

If only I'd remembered Noxema was originally marketed as a skin cleanser to use at night in place of soap and cold cream.
by Anonymous | reply 405 | March 28, 2024 2:33 AM |
The brand of the guy on the right is to be a cocky know-it-all, especially on The Chase. (Is that still on?) Seems like it's not a facade; he's a dick.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | March 28, 2024 11:34 AM |
R406, Still, I found him sexy.
The brand of the guy on the right is to be a cocky know-it-all, especially on The Chase. . . . Seems like it's not a facade; he's a dick.
Brandon Blackwell came off as a totally arrogant jerk. Which is why it was so delightful when he lost. 😂😂
by Anonymous | reply 409 | March 28, 2024 12:55 PM |
I'm with R407 re Brandon.
Overly confident, arrogant, dickish - whatever; I found him sexy.
Alex looked really different from his last appearance, and I was wondering if he maybe lost weight.
At any rate, he didn't disappoint by looking utterly devastated by having lost yesterday.
Looking forward to seeing Sam tonight.

“At any rate, he didn't disappoint by looking utterly devastated by having lost yesterday.“
Especially since he’s offering instruction on how to win at Jeopardy! and even hinted that some of his clients are currently in the mix.
by Anonymous | reply 411 | March 28, 2024 3:20 PM |
R406 RE The Chase: I wanted to really love that show. But it's SO hard for the contestants to win (too many steps, too many things can go wrong) and they don't really win that much money if they do win the chase. It felt like watching minor torture!
So I quit watching because it was too frustrating. They really should give guaranteed money (even a small amount) if anyone made the final chase round and then a bigger payout if the contestant end up winning that final chase round.
(No idea if it's coming back or not.)
by Anonymous | reply 412 | March 28, 2024 4:59 PM |
this tournament shit is killing the show. I used to never miss now it's a 50/50 thing on if I watch or not. It just feels like repeats and they're pretty much bringing back everyone I hated. Actually it seems they're bringing everyone back LOL
by Anonymous | reply 413 | March 28, 2024 5:20 PM |
r412 I wanted to like the Chase, but agree with your comments.
Too hard to win too little money.
More disturbing to me is the experts like James and Brad seem to get pleasure in snatching the money away from these contestants.
Yes, there should be some kind of minimal prize for these contestants to put themselves out there. Say $10,000 split among the team even if they lose.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | March 28, 2024 5:57 PM |
Brandon and Alex certainly were sore losers. No hugfest after that game.
I was rooting for Brandon but after seeing his response to being defeated, I'm glad he lost.
At least now we don't have to see Brandon's weird way of hold the buzzer by his rights pants pocket like its a gun he's about to pull out of the holster again.
I had no idea on Final.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | March 28, 2024 6:01 PM |

No Buzzy Cohen - I guess because he's part of the "Jeopardy family" as a guest host....?
by Anonymous | reply 417 | March 28, 2024 6:30 PM |
Buzzy was host of the This Is Jeopardy! podcast, giving the history of Jeopardy!
He got insider information about how the game is put together and played. I sincerely doubt he would ever be allowed to be a contestant again.
The podcast is excellent. Very informative. I highly recommend it. But it you do listen the podcast, start from the first episode and listen to them in order.

by Anonymous | reply 420 | March 28, 2024 8:31 PM |
R420, Alex has obviously lost weight, which is why his teeth appeared so prominent.
He was more subdued and awkward than before.
He’s a former professional poker player and from James Holzhauer, we know they can be quirky.
Thankfully, his afro days are behind him.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | March 28, 2024 9:54 PM |
R386 Don't know what the question was, but if it was related to the old feast day, then "Crispian" would probably be acceptable, because on the Church calendar the day honored twin brothers, who were martyred together. They became "paired saints, and the full name of the day was actually the "Feast Day of Sts. Crispin and Crispinian." And over time, you can find a couple different spellings (e.g. Crispian is one and Crispianus is another).
by Anonymous | reply 422 | March 28, 2024 10:10 PM |
Well for fuck sake Alex is dead. Of course he's going to look different.

I can never understand how some of these otherwise great players can be so STUPID when it comes to FJ wagering. If Chuck Forrest had bet NOTHING, he would have won. ESPECIALLY when there is a broad category like "20th century novels!!"
by Anonymous | reply 431 | March 29, 2024 5:15 PM |
And the suicidal, “I’m going to make it a TRUE Daily Double!” wager that keeps bringing down people who are waaaay in the lead.
“Let’s see, I have $12,000. My opponents have $1000 and $2000. They probably won’t be able to catch up with me unless I bet all my money and lose it. Make it a TRUE Daily Double, please!”
by Anonymous | reply 432 | March 29, 2024 5:25 PM |
Yes, R431. Part of wagering is understanding what the other two are betting and where you stand if they get FJ wrong or right. If either gets it right, he can’t win. But he CAN win if they both get it wrong IF he bets nothing or just enough to leave him a dollar more than player two. It ain’t rocket science.
by Anonymous | reply 433 | March 29, 2024 5:37 PM |
I'd never heard of the "Forrest bounce" before, but from Ken's chat with Chuck, it seems he was the first one to bounce around the board from category to category.

Here in the first half, Jennifer was Amy's only real competition. Then in the second half, Dave surged with those Daily Doubles and posed a real threat to Amy while Jennifer wasn't any competition.

An awesome game. I was pulling for Sam but it was obvious Andrew was going to win from the outset.
So it's Amy and Andrew in the finals, both alum of last year's Masters. If Sam wins tonight and gets in the finals, it will be a repeat of the Masters.

Victoria is exactly the kind of contestant I can't stand!! She "acts" all her answers in that sing songy voice ("Who is Nelson?") and worse, can't shut up, always inserting little comments, like that stupid one about the Genoa soccer team - and actually calculating her DD wager out loud!! And worst of all, those ugly rhinestone cat glasses!

by Anonymous | reply 467 | April 6, 2024 2:08 AM |
Amazing game. I loved seeing Amy's determination as she mowed down all the low value questions, knowing that she needed to get them all to have enough to double and possibly beat Victoria. I was like nothing would stop her. I wasn't a fan when she first appeared, but she is one of my all time fav players now.
by Anonymous | reply 468 | April 6, 2024 2:38 AM |

Andrew seems flustered and tongue tied the few times he actually manages to buzz in first. Amy and Victoria must be really quick on the buzzer.
Don't understand why they're declaring a winner after just two wins. Such an odd choice. Standard for most tournaments like this is the winner is the first person to get three wins.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | April 9, 2024 5:35 AM |
Standard was usually a two day cumulative score. The three wins us a recent change.

I have been watching Jeopardy since the art Fleming days, and I cannot recall a contestant as obnoxious as Victoria. Contestants should be advised that they will have a few seconds to chat with Ken at the beginning, and then they should just answer the questions and SHUT THE FUCK UP otherwise - keep your cutesy comments to yourself!!!
I don't know what kind of "TV personality" Victoria is back in Pittsburgh, but I CAN'T STAND HER. Any needs to come out swinging today!!

The Chase is a nighttime quiz show where a trio of amateurs is pitted against one Jeopardy pro. Hosted by the eternally cutesy Sarah Haines. Not sure if new episodes are forthcoming though.

I, for one, find Victoria perfectly harmless and wouldn't mind her winning this thing. Nice to get some new blood in there.
And even if she loses, she's an incredibly strong player who will be invited back for various tournaments......so just get used to her!

by Anonymous | reply 502 | April 9, 2024 9:25 PM |
I kind of want Andrew to win tonight so the tournament keeps going. But ultimately I want Amy to win the first JIT.
Victoria is that over-eager chunky girl we all went to high school with. Always trying too hard in a very cringey way and failing. Smart, but annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 503 | April 9, 2024 9:32 PM |

Congratulations Victoria! She played a good game. Quite knowledgeable. I was impressed.
When did she originally play? Sounds like it was 20 years ago.
The chattiness doesn't bother me. Just adds to the player's personality, makes the game more friendly. And we'll be seeing Victoria again in a month's time when Masters starts.
I knew that Final was the water that connected the Black Sea to the Mediterranean, but had no idea what the name of that sea was.

It would bother you if the person chatting it up was way out in the lead towards the end of the game and gobbling up precious time with her idiotic commentary on the questions.

That was almost like an SNL skit, where the dumbest player ends up the winner. Who remembers Lucas from his earlier stint? I don't. Was he a good player?
by Anonymous | reply 523 | April 11, 2024 4:11 AM |
OrT522 that she thought Lou Grant transitioned from working in television to… working in television? Or that she thought FJ, which was asking for a movie title, was in fact asking for a dog breed?
Tuesday’s result was an abhorrent victory for TERFs the world over. Tonight’s result was a victory for the dummy community and their allies.
by Anonymous | reply 524 | April 11, 2024 4:14 AM |
R524, what are you on about? Victoria winning was an abhorrent victory? Is she a "TERF" or are you just a misogynistic idiot?
by Anonymous | reply 525 | April 11, 2024 5:24 AM |
Um. I was wrong. I want to go back to the pros.
These three were truly horrible. I would have easily won tonight's game and I am not that smart.
by Anonymous | reply 526 | April 11, 2024 6:14 AM |
Yikes! I'd forgotten how bad some of the contestants in regular play can be. Guess we got spoiled in recent weeks with so many past champs playing again.
Did outgoing champ Lucas come off as gay to anyone else?
by Anonymous | reply 527 | April 11, 2024 5:03 PM |
The questions are now markedly easier.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | April 11, 2024 5:08 PM |
I was taken with the "correction" taking away credit for answering "klu klux klan" rather than "ku klux klan"... it seems the monitoring of pronunciation isn't always consistent. So many answers are mispronounced, but accepted. I guess adding the barely audible "l" in the answer made it wrong... that is, mispronouncing a syllable or word is ok, but adding a phoneme isn't.
by Anonymous | reply 529 | April 11, 2024 5:15 PM |
I grew up in the South. It's consistently pronounced Klu Klux Klan there. May be spelled Ku, but its always pronounced Klu.
I was taken aback when Ken clawed those points back for that.
by Anonymous | reply 530 | April 11, 2024 5:39 PM |
“Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to tonight’s game. I award you no prize money, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
by Anonymous | reply 531 | April 11, 2024 6:25 PM |
Good god!! Lee is fucking brain dead.
by Anonymous | reply 532 | April 11, 2024 8:57 PM |
The subtitles said “Klu Klux Klan,” and I said, “Oh no, the subtitle is wrong.” I didn’t hear him say “Klu” but the subtitle company did.
I would’ve answered “KKK.”
by Anonymous | reply 533 | April 11, 2024 10:46 PM |
Waiting for FJ, but boy is she doubling down on her remarkable lack of knowledge and listening comprehension tonight. Imagine going home and telling your friends you lost to her?
by Anonymous | reply 534 | April 11, 2024 11:57 PM |
I can’t locate the “EMULSIFY” button on my blender.
by Anonymous | reply 535 | April 11, 2024 11:59 PM |
I couldn't wait for the regular games to start again, especially with the endless Wildcard and Second Chance games that preceded the Tournament games.
But now that we're back to "normal," I've forgotten how stupid some of those contestants can be.
I mean holy crap, how does someone like Lee get on the show?
Are the ones who were rejected even more of an embarrassment than she was?
And to top it off, these questions for the past two days seem easier than the ones that were in the tournament games.
by Anonymous | reply 536 | April 12, 2024 1:13 AM |
I liked tonight’s winner a lot. Pretty good base of knowledge and tons of humility / delight to have been a successful underdog. I’m rooting for at least one more win.
by Anonymous | reply 537 | April 12, 2024 2:05 AM |
Lee wasn't just bad, she was monumentally bad. So bad she was entertaining.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | April 12, 2024 2:28 AM |
I lost to Lee and all I got is this lowsie t-shrit
by Anonymous | reply 539 | April 12, 2024 3:17 AM |
I suspect that some people do pretty well in the tryouts, but just fall apart at showtime for any of a number of reasons. At least Lee has her little library in her front yard.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | April 12, 2024 3:18 AM |
Much better game tonight.
Alison was an impressive player. Very knowledgeable. Brian was also rather good. Did a nice job in the second half after being so far behind.
Lee can return home to her Little Free Library and bask in the glory of being a one-day Jeopardy! champ.

Proust? What a silly thing to even think!
by Anonymous | reply 542 | April 12, 2024 11:39 PM |
The two challengers today were such a waste of space. She probably still would have smoked them but there were so many clues that she didn't even attempt to answer so it's not even like she shut them out they were just so damn stupid..
by Anonymous | reply 543 | April 13, 2024 1:00 AM |
Yes, R542. Proust. Not only did he write gritty sci-fi doomsday tomes, but he also dabbled in hard core gay rape epistles. 🙄🙄
by Anonymous | reply 544 | April 13, 2024 2:51 AM |
There were more than just one or two that I thought were easy that they couldn't get.
by Anonymous | reply 545 | April 13, 2024 12:24 PM |
FJ seemed obvious to me.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | April 13, 2024 1:13 PM |
So many they should've known, Mary Pickford for one.
by Anonymous | reply 547 | April 15, 2024 11:59 PM |
Alison is doing well. She doesn't annoy me and is pleasant to look at.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | April 16, 2024 12:01 AM |
Mary Pickford was once the most famous and most recognizable and most beloved woman in the world. For a few decades.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | April 16, 2024 12:07 AM |
Poor handsome Adam was maybe just too cautious.
by Anonymous | reply 550 | April 16, 2024 12:07 AM |
Mary Pickford was the “most recognizable” woman in the world 100 years ago. I get it if they’d all missed Amelia Earhart or Queen Victoria, but come on.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | April 16, 2024 12:09 AM |
The end guy was cute. The little guy was creepy and also clearly as stupid as he was funny looking. I want to hate this blonde girl because she says so many dumb things but they always amuse me and she's just too damn cute. I really liked all of her answers for the band category she just kept going forward even though she didn't have a clue. Again it seemed like she didn't really know everything or even answer that much she just made a lot of smart wagers. She's clearly just been up against some really awful contestants..
by Anonymous | reply 552 | April 16, 2024 1:02 AM |
I like Alison, except her vocal fry. So many Millenial and younger woman push their voices to do this intonation that bugs the hell out of me.
And there is no excuse for missing Mary Pickford, America's Sweetheart.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | April 16, 2024 2:20 AM |
I totally understand someone under 50 not recognizing Pickford. Her films have not endured.
by Anonymous | reply 554 | April 16, 2024 2:40 AM |
Most living 80+ year olds couldn’t pick Mary Pickford out of a lineup. I guessed Lillian Gish and I’m not a spring chicken by a long shot.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | April 16, 2024 3:19 AM |
My original comment about Pickford was not meant to blame the contestants for not recognizing her but as an observation on the fleeting nature of fame. In the first few decades of the 20th century, no one was more famous or popular than she was.
Taylor Swift, beware.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | April 16, 2024 3:37 AM |
Again it seemed like she didn't really know everything or even answer that much she just made a lot of smart wagers.
That's a very weird comment, as it's impossible to earn that much money in a Jeopardy! game without knowing a lot and giving a great many correct answers. No, she didn't "know everything," but she knew a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | April 16, 2024 4:35 AM |
My original comment about Pickford was not meant to blame the contestants for not recognizing her but as an observation on the fleeting nature of fame. In the first few decades of the 20th century, no one was more famous or popular than she was.
The main reason Pickford is not known today is that she made silent films, which of course have not generally retained any significant popularity. If the clue had been a photo of Fay Wray in KING KONG or W.C. Fields in DAVID COPPERFIELD or Shirley Temple or Judy Garland in any of their movies, I'm sure one of the contestants would have had the correct response.
by Anonymous | reply 558 | April 16, 2024 4:38 AM |
Foghorn Leghorn?
by Anonymous | reply 559 | April 16, 2024 5:58 AM |
I did very well in today's game, but I missed Mary Pickford. I thought it was Clara Bow.
But honestly, all those silent film stars look exactly the same to me. Yes, I am well under 50.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | April 16, 2024 7:46 AM |
I wasn’t even looking at the TV when the Mary Pickford clue was read. But as soon as Ken said, “America’s Sweetheart” I said, Mary Pickford.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | April 16, 2024 11:35 AM |
IYKYK
by Anonymous | reply 562 | April 16, 2024 12:11 PM |
By the way, that was a very unusual moment when Ken initially ruled the "Venice" response correct and then said, "No, I'm sorry, that's NOT correct." Unlike him to slip up like that. Is this the first time something like that has ever happened on JEOPARDY! and they have left it in rather than editing it out?
by Anonymous | reply 563 | April 16, 2024 12:33 PM |
IMTKYKS
by Anonymous | reply 564 | April 16, 2024 12:33 PM |
R563, Especially since he has the correct responses right in front of him.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | April 16, 2024 12:35 PM |
Yes, R565, I wonder what happened there. And I do wonder why they didn't edit it out and do that one clue and answer over again. Would have been fairly easy to do so, I think.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | April 16, 2024 12:37 PM |
Wow! Allison just steamrolled over those two guys. Really nice to see a good player winning multiple consecutive games.
I guess Ken was just so used to saying Yes to Alison's answers, he automatically did that at Venice and the judges quickly said No. Thus the awkward correction. It is strange they didn't edit it out.
I didn't know Final, but guessed Newton as he was one of the few academicians I could think of from that era. Delighted to see I was right.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | April 16, 2024 6:03 PM |
Newton was the only c.1700 famous name I could come up with and I was correct!
by Anonymous | reply 568 | April 16, 2024 8:16 PM |
Allison is pleasant enough, so I won't mind her hanging around for another game or so - especially if she can come up with the equivalency of Foghorn Leghorn response in each game.
Joshua, who delights in scaring children and who I can picture in a future police lineup, has to be one of the creepiest contestants who's been on in a while.
Adam did more talking during the closing credits than he did during regular game play.
by Anonymous | reply 569 | April 16, 2024 9:23 PM |
Cat Lady played abysmally.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | April 17, 2024 12:39 AM |
My friend’s daughter is named Venice so I actually said that name out loud right when Alison did and was surprised for a second that it was ruled correct.
by Anonymous | reply 571 | April 17, 2024 2:28 AM |
Alison continues, I'm glad.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | April 17, 2024 2:36 AM |
I rather liked the substitute teacher nerd.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | April 17, 2024 3:05 AM |
Allison is good but she really hasn't been challenged by a decent contestant yet.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | April 17, 2024 3:17 AM |
R571: one of my great aunts was named Venice but she was murdered before I was born.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | April 17, 2024 5:15 AM |
Someone could easily beat this blonde easily given all the clues that she either misses or doesn't even attempt to answer. But dude tonight certainly came close and he looked like he wanted to cry when he got final wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 576 | April 17, 2024 5:16 AM |
I wrote down the ones I knew that they didn't (zydeco being iffy); Binny Smith crayons, Spenser, Land of the Lost (had a wicked crush on the dad), and water buffalo. Were any of these obvious to you also?
My impression of Joshua was "Something is very wrong here."
by Anonymous | reply 577 | April 17, 2024 11:30 AM |
I knew a rook was a crow.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | April 17, 2024 12:36 PM |
When she answered zydeco the closed captioning on my TV actually spelled it correctly so I was surprised when they ruled against her cuz I didn't hear it the tea and apparently neither did the captioning
by Anonymous | reply 579 | April 17, 2024 1:06 PM |
R579 Yep, that was one of those borderline pronunciation answers. It seems that there isn't one standard to determine when pronunciation quirks or non-standard pronunciations are ruled right or wrong. So many "mis-pronunciations" are not questioned. Allison slowly pronounced Zydeco syllable by syllable, so the "T" was heard clearly. If she'd pronounced it more quickly it probably would have been accepted.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | April 17, 2024 2:43 PM |
I realize we’ve not seen everyday contestants for a while, but the number of non responses now is staggering.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | April 17, 2024 2:48 PM |
Yeah, once again, we need better contestants. Allison is fine, but a decent challenger could likely knock her off without much difficulty. That guy last night came close and he wasn’t that good.
by Anonymous | reply 582 | April 17, 2024 3:49 PM |
He really fucked himself by not putting “Burrito” in the form of a question. I think that would have turned the tide and eventually led him to win.
I know it was just a guess but always remember proper phrasing!
by Anonymous | reply 583 | April 17, 2024 4:01 PM |
Well, Alison finally had some competition, but still prevailed. Good going.
I certainly knew Land of the Lost, but didn't know a rook was a crow. Yes, if Alison had pronounced zydeco normally, her pronunciation likely would have passed.
I also guessed Yalta for Final. Interesting to learn about summitt.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | April 17, 2024 5:27 PM |
Re: Land of the Lost - the Sleestak language was mentioned in my college linguistics textbook.
I knew what they were going for, but blanked on crow-rook thing at the time. I felt she clearly messed up zydeco, not at all a slight pronunciation deal. Austin the bar owner got badly screwed once for his New York accent coming through on the right answer, so much so I was shocked they refused to reconsider it.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | April 17, 2024 6:00 PM |
I got “summit” immediately. It was so obvious. I was surprised at how semi-recent a term it is.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | April 17, 2024 6:25 PM |
Slightly better competition tonight but Allison, even with many wrong replies, prevailed. Poor lady in the middle, she was up and down and up and down......
by Anonymous | reply 587 | April 18, 2024 12:45 AM |
I felt bad for Vidya, she seemed nice.
FJ seemed very obvious to me.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | April 18, 2024 12:54 AM |
I also felt bad for Vidya. Before DJ I thought for sure she’d be tonight’s winner.
Gameplay has obviously been much weaker than during the last 493 months of tournament play. Allison is no Matt Amodio, but she’s certainly not a chump. She has a broad base of knowledge and lot of moxie and humility. I’d be happy to see her extend her run, and I’ll be happy to watch her in ToC regardless.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | April 18, 2024 3:07 AM |
Sorry, I missed the game in question, can someone please explain briefly what happened with "Zydeco" and a mispronunciation?

Here's a new one to use.

R590. She pronounced it zydeTco rather than zydeco.

Thanks, R592.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | April 18, 2024 1:19 PM |
R592 R592 I'd amend this report a bit. She said very slowly, syllable by syllable: ZY - TEE - CO. Even with the "t" not "d" I think she'd have got away with it if she'd said the work at a usual speed.
I know, I know, who cares.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | April 18, 2024 7:21 PM |

PAH - THA - DICK

When contestants make a mistake like that, they should let Ken hit a buzzer that has an audio recording of Alex saying, "Oooh, that will cost you ...."
