Jeopardy! #40
by Anonymous | reply 600 | February 11, 2024 3:46 AM |
Guys with red Mohawks always do it for me.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 2, 2023 2:49 AM |
Hmm, I saw the mohawk as more of a fuchsia pink.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 2, 2023 3:14 AM |
Huh R3, I saw the mohawk as a screaming red flag. š
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 2, 2023 1:14 PM |
I loved that the mohawk was "thin" at exactly the point of his male pattern baldness. Hilarious. Can't do a proper punk mohawk if you're going bald.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 2, 2023 8:22 PM |
This old man obviously looked like EISENHOWER!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 2, 2023 11:27 PM |
Definitely matched yesterday's bright red necktie, R3.
Winner seemed rather smug to me.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 2, 2023 11:59 PM |
John Eisenhower was the spitting image of his father.
How could she miss that?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 3, 2023 12:26 AM |
I was rooting for adorable Joshie though I knew she didn't stand a chance as she kept squinting at the board. I will miss Mohawk Man and agree the new champ is rather smug.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 3, 2023 12:44 AM |
I was rooting for adorable Joshie though I knew she didn't stand a chance as she kept squinting at the board. I will miss Mohawk Man and agree the new champ is rather smug.
No, R9, theyāre not going anywhere. This was the first of a two-game final. They play again tomorrow and add the scores together to determine the champ. I also was rooting for Joshie, and she did pretty well, all things considered. But she will likely be bested by the other two.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 3, 2023 1:16 AM |
Are you sure about that, r10? I thought it was just the ultimate 3 finalists who play a second game together. Though I hope you're right.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 3, 2023 1:26 AM |
No, Iām not sure. And, in fact, Iām wrong. Emily is in the finals. The other two are out. When I looked at the contestants zone website earlier in the week they had both Thursday and Friday contestants blanked out. I erroneously thought that meant it was a two-day championship. Wrong.

Wikipedia:
In 1938 Margaret Wilson traveled to the ashram of Sri Aurobindo in Pondicherry, India, where she remained for the rest of her life. She became a member and devotee of the ashram and was given the new name 'Nistha', meaning "dedication" in Sanskrit. She and the scholar Joseph Campbell edited the English translation of the classical work on the Hindu mystic, Sri Ramakrishna, The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by Swami Nikhilananda, which was published in 1942, by Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center, New York. Wilson died from uremia on February 12, 1944, at the age of 57, and was buried in Pondicherry, India, unmarried and without issue.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 3, 2023 6:30 AM |
Really good game. I liked all three.
This was a semi-final game, so only Emily will be back when we start the finals on Tuesday.
Final seemed incredibly easy.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 3, 2023 7:31 AM |
Team Aaron!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 3, 2023 7:39 AM |
Are there any other seas around Britain?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 3, 2023 2:06 PM |
I love that T.J. cooks with carbon monoxide. Thatās hardcore.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 3, 2023 11:52 PM |
Aaron is very enthusiastic.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 3, 2023 11:59 PM |
Aaron's gesture was obnoxious, reminiscent of Matt Jackson. Still, he got rid of Ty. Guessed Final, knew MGH = Mass General.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 4, 2023 12:01 AM |
I thought for sure FJ was Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 4, 2023 1:29 AM |
R21, Is Aaron that enthusiastic when he climaxes?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 4, 2023 1:40 AM |
The story of Richard the 3rd was all over the news when this happened, how could they not know this?!?!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 4, 2023 1:56 AM |
Not exactly front page news, could easily have been missed. Clearly was by the contestants.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 4, 2023 2:02 AM |
I never understand why contestants donāt at least make an educated guess if they donāt know FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 4, 2023 2:04 AM |
A few months ago I watched "The Lost King," a Stephen Frears movie about the Richard III exhumation; interesting subject, cornball film.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 4, 2023 6:32 AM |
Prince Phillip died in 2021 lady
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 4, 2023 2:15 PM |
I find Aaron very sexy, and though evidently straight, he doesnāt wear a wedding ring, which I find tantalizing.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 4, 2023 8:15 PM |
Aaron was a really bad sport with all his yelling. The guy in the 1st position gave him the side eye.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 5, 2023 11:29 AM |
R30, Aaronās two kids sitting in the audience had to be embarrassed at his histrionics.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 5, 2023 11:33 AM |
Yeah, that was a stupid thing to do. All that self-congratulatory whooping was a very amateurish move.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 6, 2023 11:06 PM |
Repubic š¹
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 6, 2023 11:59 PM |
I had forgotten how cute Dave was. Guessed "This Land is Your Land" for Travels with Charley.
Quite a few they missed. Decree Nisi seemed obvious, it was mentioned in a book I'm reading a couple of days ago, although I knew it before then.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 7, 2023 12:02 AM |
I had no idea for FJ yet the answer was quite obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 7, 2023 1:24 AM |
Add Steinbeck to the list of Jeopardy writers' frequently used faves.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 7, 2023 2:52 AM |
I was shocked and disappointed to learn that John Steinbeck had such high regard for "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." I realize the phrase "the grapes of wrath" comes from that song, but I assumed Steinbeck used it for the title of his masterpiece novel only because the phrase was so appropriate for that story. But "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" is a horrendous song that basically says. "We're at war, and we're going to kill other people and maybe be killed ourselves, but that's all great because God is on our side."
I just don't get why that sentiment would have such strong appeal for John Steinbeck.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 7, 2023 3:31 AM |
Julia Ward Howe was an abolitionist and "The Battle Hymn," written in late1862, was intended to rally support for Lincoln and the Union in the fight against slavery. In the 1930s, Steinbeck saw a parallel in the fight to help the destitute economic migrants like the Joads.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 7, 2023 4:48 AM |
Thanks, R39. I suppose that was Steinbeck's reason for admiring the song, but the lyrics are still the lyrics, and they're particularly horrifying out of context.
My guess for FJ was "Red River Valley." That was the first thing that came to my mind because I know that song is used prominently in the movie of THE GRAPES OF WRATH, including the main title sequence.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 7, 2023 1:58 PM |
I guessed āAmazing Grace.ā
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 7, 2023 2:57 PM |
The writers do love Steinbeck.
He comes up a lot in Jeopardy clues. Perhaps they use Steinbeck so much because people are still reading Steinbeck today. And Fitzgerald for that matter. But other writers of that era like Sinclair Lewis aren't read so much these day, and Lewis seldom comes up as a Jeopardy clue.
I had no idea on Final. I guessed it might be something by Gershwin but didn't have a specific song in mind.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 7, 2023 5:20 PM |
I thought it was going to be a really early folk song like Jeannie with the Light Blue Eyes (is that even the title?).
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 7, 2023 7:19 PM |
Hate Jilana. Ugly Republican church frau who can't wager for shit.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 7, 2023 8:58 PM |
Today/tomorrow is the battle of two twats vs Jilana.
Go Jilana.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 7, 2023 9:13 PM |
Jeannie has Light Brown Hair.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 7, 2023 9:30 PM |
Oh, that's right, I knew I wasn't quite getting the title right, r46.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 7, 2023 10:04 PM |
r41, I did as well. I don't think it was a terrible guess.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 7, 2023 10:53 PM |
Very surprised that Jilana, who seemed to know Camus up the wazoo. didn't know Sartre was the other major existentialist. I think her nerves just got to her on that DJ. Oh and that Final! She gets easily flustered, I see.
I've come to like Emily a lot. And Aaron must have been a very cute teenager.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 7, 2023 11:29 PM |
AKKK! Weāve been preempted for election coverage in Columbus, Ohio!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 7, 2023 11:30 PM |
It was a great close show, Cathy! Please look for it online.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 7, 2023 11:34 PM |
Final was a give-away. Jilana made some dumb moves even though she knows a lot. Aaron wanted to go home at the first commercial break.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 8, 2023 12:01 AM |
Jilana reminds me of Melanie Lynskey.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 8, 2023 12:01 AM |
I liked Jilana, it's a pity she lost.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 9, 2023 12:15 AM |
Emily is a machine. A big, fat, phony machine. Something about her gives me the willies. Aaron just gave me the willie squidgets. š
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 9, 2023 12:27 AM |
Emily's response, Magellan, was really bizarre. Surely, someone as smart as she is didn't think Magellan was writing anything in 1779 (or whatever that 18th century year was)? I'm glad she won though, I really liked her spirit (and when she called out "Mittens" Romney yesterday).
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 9, 2023 1:13 AM |
Every explorer question is usually Magellan, Francis Drake or Cooke
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 9, 2023 1:43 AM |
Great game!
I ultimately was rooting for Jilana but liked all three.
I knew Final instantly. Have always been a James Cook fan. Plus the line reminded me of the Star Trek line.
So now we get ANOTHER round of Champions Wildcard?Wow! More recycled questions! When will we get back to regular play and new questions. Writers strike has been over for a month now!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 9, 2023 4:19 AM |
There will be various tournaments and such until April. The last regular winner will return to face new challengers then.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 9, 2023 11:11 AM |
At least Aaron was a gracious loser.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 9, 2023 1:53 PM |
It seemed like he had just given up halfway through DJ.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 9, 2023 1:54 PM |
When will we see Chris Pannullo?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 9, 2023 6:46 PM |
There will be various tournaments and such until April. The last regular winner will return to face new challengers then.
April?!?!?!
They don't tape that far in advance. Two months in advance, yes. Six months, no.
Writer's strike has been over since late September. They should have written hundreds and hundreds of clues by now.
Where are you getting this regular games begin again in April info?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 9, 2023 6:52 PM |
Jeopardy! producers Michael Davies and Sarah Whitcomb Foss have shared details on future Jeopardy! plans now that the WGA strike is over, confirming that new contestant episodes wonāt return until at least April 2024. The news has not gone down well with a lot of Jeopardy! who are desperate for the show to return to normal with new contestants.
They planned out all these tournaments months ago not knowing when the strike would ever end.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 9, 2023 8:11 PM |
Thanks r59 and r64.
How cynical of them to assume the WGA strike would continue well into 2024 to have to plan tournaments all the way into April.
Ultra cynical.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 9, 2023 8:16 PM |
I guessed John Steinbeck for FJ cause all you bitches said they loved John Steinbeck!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 9, 2023 11:30 PM |
Same r66
Although i was wrong on FJ, i answered correclty for the majority of the answers, I'm surprised how easy the entire episode was today
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 9, 2023 11:48 PM |
I got Final, as well as several they missed, espescially the Florida anagram! Wanted cute Matt back, but happy for Jen.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 9, 2023 11:59 PM |
I guessed Steinbeck. Dumb. They had just used him for "Battle Hymn."
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 10, 2023 3:43 AM |
Great game!
Had no idea on Final.
They had writers listed in the creditās tonight! First time in two months, since the new season began in September!
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 10, 2023 8:57 AM |
I had Steinbeck too but changed at the last second to Faulkner.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 10, 2023 9:21 AM |
Guessed correctly, very easy FJ
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 11, 2023 12:18 AM |
Who the fuck is Joanna dude?!?!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 11, 2023 12:18 AM |
Joanna??
Wtf? How could someone so seemingly smart not know the right response and come up with a name like that? He was kinda hot, too. I'll miss Alan.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | November 11, 2023 12:20 AM |
I think Alan had a stroke. Joanna??
Seriously, there is only one answer. I was rooting for Alan, but good god that was dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | November 11, 2023 1:06 AM |
Questions seem easier, more like school kids level.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | November 11, 2023 1:39 AM |
Would they have accepted St. Joan?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | November 11, 2023 2:09 AM |
Yes, I think Ken told Alan they would have even accepted just Joan or Jeanne.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | November 11, 2023 2:11 AM |
Questions definitely seem easier in the past two episodes since the writers returned.
Maybe they were tasked with coming up with hundreds of clues in just a days time, before the next Champions Wildcard tapings began. And because they had to write so many in such a short amount of time, perhaps the clues were easier than usual.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 11, 2023 11:14 PM |
Maybe they were tasked with coming up with hundreds of clues in just a days time, before the next Champions Wildcard tapings began.
Why would that be? They could have been at work writing clues all through the strike, even though those clues couldn't be used till the strike was over.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 12, 2023 1:39 AM |
They could have been at work writing clues all through the strike, even though those clues couldn't be used till the strike was over.
NO. That's illegal under union rules.
You don't do any work for your employer, even work that might be used in the future, while the union is striking.
That's a basic of every union.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | November 12, 2023 1:53 AM |
I just might be in love with Stuart.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | November 13, 2023 11:59 PM |
Stuart is a cute goofball and he knows his way around Blueboy.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | November 14, 2023 12:00 AM |
Stuart was very quirky and I thought he might score a win in the end. But that FJ was just too easy.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | November 14, 2023 12:00 AM |
Suit guy here very impressed by Stuart.
Guessed Perrier for Final, no idea about Coke.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | November 14, 2023 12:15 AM |
R86, Georgia in the clue didnāt give you Coke?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | November 14, 2023 12:16 AM |
Our gay champ was quite nutty!
by Anonymous | reply 88 | November 14, 2023 12:44 AM |
Our gay champ was quite nutty!
Our gay champ was quite [bold]fruity[/bold]!
There, I fixed it.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | November 14, 2023 12:46 AM |
I guessed Tiffany or 7-Up. I thought Coke hailed from Chattanooga.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | November 14, 2023 12:50 AM |
Anyone remember Stuart from before?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | November 14, 2023 2:00 AM |
Sorry, but Coca Cola was a no-brainer.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | November 14, 2023 2:53 AM |
I got the songs from musicals, but missed most everything else, including FJ.
Did anyone else reach for the remote to turn down the volume on sharp but LOUD Fred?
by Anonymous | reply 93 | November 14, 2023 4:06 AM |
I remembered Stuart once Ken mentioned his wanting to wager a negative number on a DJ question.
I was rooting for him to win, but he was no match for perky Fred, who seems ever so pleased with himself.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | November 14, 2023 8:37 PM |
Gay Fred certainly was perky. And loud. He definitely wanted to be noticed.
But he was also very smart. And always good to have "family" playing in the tournament.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | November 14, 2023 8:52 PM |
I was desperate to fuck Brandon Deutsch tonight. That jaw, those glasses, that glossy hair, the soft moustache. But mostly that black turtleneck and the shoulders and arms in that black turtleneck. The cutest guy in weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | November 15, 2023 1:03 AM |
Agreed, R96!
by Anonymous | reply 97 | November 15, 2023 1:54 AM |
Really???
by Anonymous | reply 98 | November 15, 2023 2:24 AM |
r96 I was so mad when that Stanley Kurbick looking guy won.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | November 15, 2023 2:32 AM |
You don't do any work for your employer, even work that might be used in the future, while the union is striking. That's a basic of every union.
If that's true, I think it's a completely ridiculous rule in this case. They could have written the clues and they would have remained their intellectual property until they were actually used on the show and were paid for writing them.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | November 15, 2023 4:15 AM |
I liked the winner, but ... husband? Okay ...
Guessed Final correctly
by Anonymous | reply 101 | November 16, 2023 12:19 AM |
R101, She is one lucky winner. How could the Lincoln Memorial have been sanctioned in 1776?
by Anonymous | reply 102 | November 16, 2023 12:45 AM |
R102, Correction: How could 1926 have been the 150th anniversary of Lincoln?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | November 16, 2023 1:01 AM |
Not so easy to do that math quickly in your head in the midst of a tense game.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | November 16, 2023 1:37 AM |
I couldn't believe not one of them could I identify a mantilla.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | November 16, 2023 3:09 AM |
R104, A third grader could do it in a few seconds.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | November 16, 2023 3:46 AM |
I meant to mention that one, R105 - especially after such a HUGE hint!
by Anonymous | reply 107 | November 16, 2023 1:26 PM |
Not much to say about tonight's game. It was kind of dull. The 2 guys couldn't compete with the woman, who wasn't even the best player, though I liked her and remember liking her when she won in her first appearances.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | November 17, 2023 3:16 AM |
Scott must share a bit of DNA with Wallace Shawn.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | November 17, 2023 3:48 AM |
Yes, dull game on Thursday. So many questions they missed or didn't even try at
I guessed Rudyard Kipling for Final. Have never heard of whoever the correct answer to Final was.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | November 17, 2023 4:53 PM |
You've never heard of William Blake? Go to school in Florida, did you?
by Anonymous | reply 111 | November 17, 2023 5:53 PM |
Tyger, Tyger, Burning Bright!
by Anonymous | reply 112 | November 17, 2023 7:40 PM |
Iāve heard of Henry Blake from M*A*S*H, and Eubie Blakeā¦Amanda Blake, Blake Edwards, Blakeās Sevenā¦
by Anonymous | reply 113 | November 17, 2023 8:38 PM |
R113, Blake Carrington
by Anonymous | reply 114 | November 17, 2023 9:54 PM |
Didn't get Final, but knew James Fenimore Cooper wrote Leatherstocking Tales.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 18, 2023 12:01 AM |
At least I wasn't the only one who guessed Batman.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | November 18, 2023 12:09 AM |
FJ seemed so obvious.
Three unattractive contestants tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | November 18, 2023 2:40 AM |
I was rooting for Carrie. I remember her from the first time she was on. Liked her then, liked her now.
Final was obvious to me given the date. That was around the time Peter Pan debuted, so figured it had to be that.
Batman didn't debut until May 1939 in Detective Comics no. 27, one year after Superman first appeared.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | November 19, 2023 12:07 AM |
I forgot to mention that tattooed fingers are deemed a sign of mental illness at DL, I believe?
by Anonymous | reply 119 | November 19, 2023 12:39 PM |
Nobody could identify William Shakespeare???!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 120 | November 21, 2023 2:42 AM |
Yes, shocking that none of them could identify Shakespeare. There were a few other questions that they missed that seemed easy.
I like Deanna and Iām glad that she won.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | November 21, 2023 2:55 AM |
I knew Kennesaw was Civil War, and that the cross as a sign meant Constantine.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | November 21, 2023 11:44 AM |
I found āGrannyā entertaining.
Could FJ have been any easier?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | November 21, 2023 1:14 PM |
Bow tied Ed was sweet! Glad to see him win.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | November 22, 2023 2:45 AM |
Ed was an impressive player, bow tie and all.
Only thing I could think of for Final was the fact that Buz Murdock was one of the two main characters on Route 66. But I figured a 60 year old series was a bit obscure, even for Jeopardy!
by Anonymous | reply 125 | November 22, 2023 5:32 PM |
Today is the 60th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination.
Wonder if that will be mentioned on tonight's show. Maybe a category devoted to the topic?
by Anonymous | reply 126 | November 22, 2023 5:33 PM |
R126, How morbid.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | November 22, 2023 6:42 PM |
How could two of them miss such an easy FJ? Iām starting to miss Trebekās scorn.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | November 22, 2023 11:57 PM |
I thought of Sinatra immediately but wondered if it was too obvious a reply and there might be a trick. So, maybe....Harry Connick?
Bowie seemed like an odd guess because...wasn't he known for having two different colored eyes?
by Anonymous | reply 129 | November 23, 2023 12:24 AM |
My mom, my cousin and I got Final easily. I knew Bel Canto as well.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | November 23, 2023 12:55 AM |
No; wives.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | November 23, 2023 3:08 AM |
Yes, David Bowie famously had two different colored eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | November 23, 2023 6:26 PM |
R132-If he'd been a Persian cat, he'd have been deaf.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | November 23, 2023 7:43 PM |
Anyone else get Josie and the Pussycats?
by Anonymous | reply 134 | November 24, 2023 12:38 AM |
I did.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | November 24, 2023 7:31 AM |
Foo- cult
by Anonymous | reply 136 | November 24, 2023 11:26 PM |
Was Fred annoying as hell? Why, yes, yes he was!
by Anonymous | reply 137 | November 25, 2023 12:21 AM |
I think Dennis will win handily over Jen & Nick in next week's finals.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | November 25, 2023 4:06 AM |
Damn! Tammy Wynette really looked like a guy in a wig!
by Anonymous | reply 139 | November 27, 2023 11:59 PM |
Great game tonight with 3 evenly matched smart players. Well......collectively, they sure knew more of the answers than I did.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | November 28, 2023 2:22 AM |
I would've been happy with any of them.
Knew final, but did anyone else also get Our Man in Havana?
by Anonymous | reply 141 | November 28, 2023 11:59 PM |
I did!
by Anonymous | reply 142 | November 29, 2023 2:46 AM |
I got Havana too. But I was also sure Dennis would stage a magnificent comeback and redeem himself with a big win after missing Oliver Wendell Holmes on yesterday's Daily Double.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | November 29, 2023 3:48 AM |
YAWN. We start another Champions Wildcard Tournament today.
I want to get back to regular play. I want to get back to the thrill of possibly seeing the next Ken Jennings or Mattea Roach or James Holzhauer.

Or Cris Pannullo.

But will we not be seeing Cris P. until April? Can that be true??
(gasp)
I was also sure Dennis would stage a magnificent comeback
I was perfectly happy with the results from yesterday. I found Dennis a bit off-putting because he came across as a snobby know-it-all. I like Nick Cascone (who had a small part in Titanic, which he never mentioned), and Iām glad heās going to the ToC.

Congratulations to Hung Henry!

Yay, Henry!!! Didnāt think that was going to happen for him.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | November 30, 2023 12:02 AM |
"Regular play" will resume in April. They've got some more tournaments lined up until then.

They died with ballet. No one knew Nureyev??

by Anonymous | reply 153 | November 30, 2023 1:52 AM |
They knew Misty Copeland!
by Anonymous | reply 154 | November 30, 2023 1:59 AM |
I was cheering for the uniquely named burnt-out librarian. I'm looking forward to April, with a new crop of contestants.

R151, Or Nijinsky? The date made it obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | November 30, 2023 7:31 AM |
Did my homies know Catfish Row, too? Seemed like a DL question. Got neither Led Zellin nor Misty Copeland myself.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | November 30, 2023 12:35 PM |
I did! Misty, too.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | November 30, 2023 2:05 PM |
Ken said at the start that this would be the last Champions Wildcard tournament they do. The fourth and final one. So, that suggests come mid-December, they'll have some other type of games. Whether its "regular play" remains to be seen.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | November 30, 2023 5:03 PM |
Ken mocking a contestantās response derisively, when āquarterbackā was offered.
Would Alex have done that?
by Anonymous | reply 160 | November 30, 2023 5:06 PM |
I swear I am SO over these Championship Wildcard games.
They can't end soon enough - although I admit I am looking forward to seeing Hung Henry (as R148 calls him) again.
Didn't Ken say on yesterday's show that the games with regular players start in April?
Or maybe I nodded off while watching and dreamed that bit of info as a nightmare.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | November 30, 2023 9:14 PM |
R160, Alex would have absolutely made fun of a bad response. Do people forget what a bitch he could be?
by Anonymous | reply 162 | November 30, 2023 9:48 PM |
Didn't Ken say on yesterday's show that the games with regular players start in April? Or maybe I nodded off while watching and dreamed that bit of info as a nightmare.
Ken said nothing of the sort. That was EP Michael Davies who apparently said that during one of the Jeopardy podcasts discussing that weeks shows. At least that's what someone posting here on DL reported a month or so ago. I haven't heard the podcast to verify. While I love the history of Jeopardy podcasts, I am bored silly with the weekly review of the weeks games podcast.
What Ken said on Wednesday's show, as has already been referenced upthread, is that this will be the last set of Champions Wildcard games for season 37 and 38 winners.
Not sure if that means we'll move back to regular play in three weeks or move on to Champions Wildcard games for season 39 winners. We'll find out in three weeks.

by Anonymous | reply 166 | November 30, 2023 11:58 PM |
I'm a geezer and wasn't easy for me, R165. Final, on the other hand, was easy. As were Minnie Pearl, Brunhilde, and cloche (guess Ken never took French).
by Anonymous | reply 167 | December 1, 2023 12:01 AM |
I was so pulling for Tyler...
by Anonymous | reply 168 | December 1, 2023 12:25 AM |
Embarrassingly easy FJ for a Championship game.
I knew the answer immediately when I saw 1963 in the clue.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | December 1, 2023 12:27 AM |
R166 Isn't American History taught in school anymore? I knew it because I lived it but that's something every American should know.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | December 1, 2023 12:38 AM |
Tyler kind of made me think of Pete Buttigieg with better genes.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | December 1, 2023 2:03 AM |
He does seem to have a stick up his keester.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | December 1, 2023 2:54 AM |
Really, really glad that Tyler won. Heās hot. Loved the way he looked in that uniform. And I agree with R164 that Iād like to see him out of it as well.
I had a feeling that he was going to be the only one of the three to get FJ right. Watergate? First, she was off by 10 years plus, there was no disputed report.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | December 1, 2023 4:05 AM |
Ciara seemed super smart until Watergate!
by Anonymous | reply 174 | December 1, 2023 5:34 AM |
Tyler seems most comfortable with American history, geography, and politics.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | December 1, 2023 12:33 PM |
R172 - it was as though he set out to maintain the uber-military rigid control thing, but slipped into what he's like off-duty a couple of times.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | December 1, 2023 12:54 PM |
Yes, Tyler had the ultra rigid military control thing down. Ken even commented on it during Final. So, it was nice to see him relax and smile upon winning.
Yes, the Warren Commission was super easy for Final, especially having seen a recent JFK assassination 60th anniversary special.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | December 1, 2023 5:06 PM |
Garrett and Bryce were both BF material; moreover, they both seemed more interested in a BOYfriend.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | December 1, 2023 11:59 PM |
Another ultra cinchy final. And I donāt think it has to do with being a Native American & former Salt Lake City resident.
by Anonymous | reply 179 | December 2, 2023 12:40 AM |
Soooooā¦.do producers not even give a fuck anymore about having an FJ that a ten year would maybe struggle with??
And to make matters worse, one dumb fucking contestant couldnāt even come with any response, and the game was there for the taking due to horrible wagering by another dumb fucking contestant.
Not your finest (half) hour Jeopardy.

I really liked the tall cute bearded guy on the end - was his name Matt? - to win! But every time he seemed to be forging ahead he made a few unfortunate blunders.
So instead we'll have another round with Popeye.

To put it mildly. I thought he was one of the worst players in recent memory.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | December 6, 2023 3:54 AM |
Wanted to root for Matt but he kept getting so many clues wrong!
But then Andrew knew nothing about history. He thought Reagan was the subject of a 1975 assassination attempt?! He thought Castro was the subject of a 1933 assassination attempt!?!?!?!? Fidel Castro was 7 years old in 1933.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | December 6, 2023 4:57 AM |
I vaguely remember cute tall Matt from his first appearance but if he won 2 games back then I guess he was up against some really weak competition.
Andrew is not destined to be a DL fave no matter how much he wins. Those assassination clues were all about the years, of course. Even I knew it would be Ford and FDR.

I figured out Seabiscuit for Final even though I didn't see the movie. J
by Anonymous | reply 201 | December 7, 2023 5:57 PM |
Well isnāt Scott just a barrel of fun. Yeeesh what a bitch. He looked like he wanted to throw something when he very incorrectly called Von Miller a āD Linemanā instead of a linebacker.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | December 7, 2023 9:08 PM |
Scott proved to be one of the most dour, severe cunts to ever play the game. He was also kind of an ass to Gary, who is obviously gay.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | December 7, 2023 9:21 PM |
And did you all have your eye on Scott after Final Jeopardy? He wasn't talking with or interacting with either of the other contestants or with Ken, and he looked very, very angry. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on Jeopardy! before.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | December 8, 2023 1:55 AM |
Yes, he thought having a supposed in with Aaron Rodgers gave him a leg up. And what a stupid response to FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | December 8, 2023 2:00 AM |
I wondered if maybe Scott shook hands and congratulated Youngshen before the camera showed Youngshen hugging the lady on the right? Trying to give Scott the benefit of the doubt....
by Anonymous | reply 206 | December 8, 2023 2:02 AM |
That was an almost impossible FJ. Really impressed with Youngshen that he got it right.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | December 8, 2023 2:03 AM |
That was an almost impossible FJ.
Really? I didn't find it difficult at all.
I wondered if maybe Scott shook hands and congratulated Youngshen before the camera showed Youngshen hugging the lady on the right?
I had the same thought, but even if that's true, he then stopped interacting with everyone and just stood there with a very angry/upset look on his face.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | December 8, 2023 2:09 AM |
Nah, R206. Scott did nothing to earn the benefit of doubt.
by Anonymous | reply 209 | December 8, 2023 2:12 AM |
Anyone else catch the giggle when the female contestant correctly answered Will Rogers?? They had clearly just watched the previous group and the ridiculous response by Kate that Will Rogers fathered over 100 children by 14.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | December 8, 2023 2:15 AM |
Yes, I fully expected Ken to make a snarky comment about dear old Will and his lasso, r210.

R204 Yes, it surprised me at what a sore loser he was.

by Anonymous | reply 214 | December 8, 2023 3:10 AM |
I think Esperanto is another response that pops up fairly frequently on Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 215 | December 8, 2023 12:10 PM |
Can anyone confirm whether or not the following statement from a poster above is correct? I had suggested that the JEOPARDY! writers could have continued writing clues all during the strike but just not given them over to the producers till the strike ended, and someone responded:
NO. That's illegal under union rules. You don't do any work for your employer, even work that might be used in the future, while the union is striking. That's a basic of every union.
This makes no sense to me. If the writers were allowed to write and stockpile clues during the strike while keeping those clues in their personal possession, it would obviously make it so much easier on them when the strike was over, so they wouldn't have to scramble to write hundreds of new clues in a short period. If nothing else, the writers could have been writing clues on their own, not telling anyone, and keeping them in folders in their computers at home. Then, when the strike ended, they could take some of them out bit by bit and say, "Hey, look what I came up with yesterday?" But I don't think such bending of the truth would even be necessary.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | December 8, 2023 2:56 PM |
Scott thought VERY highly of himself. I think he was talking up this supposed email relationship with Aaron Rodgers too.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | December 8, 2023 3:09 PM |
Scott seemed like the type who would kick his dog in anger.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | December 8, 2023 3:12 PM |
I do think Youngshen went over to shake Scott's hand because when I played that part back in slow motion, you sort of get the sense that he was coming from Scott's direction - but it had to have been a really abrupt (and I suspect unwelcome) handshake because because of the blink-of-an-eye amount of time that elapsed.
Compare that with the big gay embrace he gave the other (and receptive) contestant.
Scott seemed like the type who would kick his dog in anger.
Yeah, and then bury its lifeless body in the backyard.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | December 8, 2023 3:20 PM |
Scott hit me on the head with a fondue pot.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | December 8, 2023 3:26 PM |
Scott is closeted and resented Youngshenās āout-ness.ā See man-crush and pen-pal boyfriend one-sided relationship with an NFL player.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | December 8, 2023 3:42 PM |
R218, I havenāt seen a Jeopardy! contestant seethe like Scott did after losing since Alex Jacob when the judges would rule against one of his responses.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | December 8, 2023 4:19 PM |
Great to see Yungshen again. He won three or four games around July 4th last year. Very smart and also gay.
When the camera cut back from Ken to the contestants, Yungshen was walking from the area where Scott was toward Robin. Presumably, he offered Scott a handshake, which Scott probably returned, but maybe not given the way he was stewing over losing.
Given his close "friendship" with Aaron Rodgers, Scott was also likely stewing about getting a football question like "lineman:" wrong.
I had no idea on Final. Only thing I could come up with was "lingua franca." Am very impressed Yungshen knew the answer.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | December 8, 2023 5:18 PM |
"Lingua Franca" was my guess too. I thought of Esperanto, but for some reason I thought it was developed in the 30's or 40's.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | December 8, 2023 5:40 PM |
Appearing to be a sore loser on Jeopardy is just so unbecoming.
by Anonymous | reply 225 | December 8, 2023 5:58 PM |
R225 Ha, So being a sore loser but not appearing so is acceptable?
But I agree that in the decades I've watched I've never seen angry petulant resentment so nakedly displayed. In short, what a loser.
by Anonymous | reply 226 | December 8, 2023 6:10 PM |
So being a sore loser but not appearing so is acceptable?
I didnāt say it was āacceptable.ā But how would the audience ever even know? Iām sure there are many contestants over the years who were āsore losersā inside but managed to put on a good sport face about it given the fact that they were being filmed.
by Anonymous | reply 227 | December 8, 2023 6:16 PM |
I remember Youngshen from his first appearance because he's memorably cute, but can't really remember if he ever said or gave away conclusive proof of his gayness. If so, what was it?
by Anonymous | reply 228 | December 8, 2023 8:09 PM |
Yungshen met his future husband, Chris Cianci, while they were in law school at USC.
Scroll to the bottom of this webpage for a photo of their wedding.

by Anonymous | reply 255 | December 14, 2023 11:48 PM |
I felt bad for green shirt cutie, he never found his rhythm.
I was gobsmacked that Yungshen, gay as a picnic basket, thought that Cher was one of the stars of 2016 Best Picture winner, āMoonlightā.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | December 15, 2023 2:25 AM |
I didn't think Final was that difficult. I'm not that old, but I have watched Southwest grow and expand over the last few decades.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | December 15, 2023 2:27 AM |
Yeah, I thought FJ was pretty easy.
I was a little worried when Yungshen had to shout "but not me!!" when he got "like father like son".... working out gay boy trauma in public.
Green shirt guy was very sad... his family there, he clearly thought he'd do better. Then our butterfly Youngshen had to bounce around and hug everyone. Green shirt guy projected "I am going to cry and I wish you wouldn't hug me please."
by Anonymous | reply 258 | December 15, 2023 2:35 AM |
Garrett looks quite built under that tightly buttoned shirt.
I couldn't get Pandemonium, but was surprised they blanked on Cape Fear and Wayne State.

Don't think I've ever seen a player more wound up and anxious as Yungshen. So weird that he wasn't that wound up for his first game of the tournament. Or if he was, he hid it much better.
Bravo to Yungshen for knowing Final and winning. I initially said Delta for Final, but changed to Southwest after thinking about it for a moment.
Andrew sure started slow, but once he started answering questions, he came on strong. I was impressed. And Garrett was just sort of barely there for the second half.
So, the finals games of this tournament will be between Yungshen, Tyler and ear lobes Gary. I'll definitively be rooting for Yungshen.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | December 15, 2023 5:00 PM |
Tyler was slow on the buzzer, but prevailed nevertheless. Glad that he got FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | December 16, 2023 12:31 AM |
FJ was so easy! Just canāt believe good olā Tippecanoe ān Tyler too was the sole holder of the winning question.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | December 16, 2023 12:48 AM |
Oh, Yungshen.
Between tonight's remark about being brought up in a trailer park and his loving the Na'vi language in Avatar, to yesterday's unexpected outburst of "But not me!" in "Like father like son," he's starting to channel Mattea Roach in providing commentary on his responses.
Having said that, I'd still like to see him win - if only to see him give one of his big gay hugs to Tyler.

Sweet, sweet Justice. Too bad he didn't wager anything

A gay answer for a gay contestant. Confirming that Tyler is straightāalthough he thanked everyone under the sun except a girlfriend.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | December 19, 2023 12:08 AM |
I knew the fix was in for Yungshen as soon as the clue for FJ popped up
by Anonymous | reply 277 | December 19, 2023 12:12 AM |
Did anyone else get the sense that Ken was waiting for the judges to approve "Stonewall" as opposed to "Stonewall Inn"?
In any case, I'm thrilled that Yungshen won. What a dollface!
by Anonymous | reply 278 | December 19, 2023 1:04 AM |
What was the blip that happened with that one response? Did one of the other contestants (other than Yungshen) blurt out the answer before they buzzed or were called upon? Or did Ken blurt it out?
by Anonymous | reply 279 | December 19, 2023 1:06 AM |
I thought Yungshen blurted out the answer without buzzing in, then buzzed in and gave the same answer. But I could be wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | December 19, 2023 3:53 AM |
R280, It was Gary.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | December 19, 2023 3:55 AM |
Gary's blurting out "lean" without ringing in led to Yungshen's second DD, where he put the game out of reach. He is very fast on the buzzer and there's no way he was going to miss that FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | December 19, 2023 4:07 AM |
YEAH Yungshen!!
I knew when I saw the clue for Final that Yungshen would get it but doubted the others would.
Ken's hesitation when reading Yungshen's clue had to do with the "Ahhhhhhhh!" he wrote underneath, not whether Stonewall was acceptable. Not sure why Yungshen needed to do that, but he did.
Tyler seemed genuinely happy for Yungshen, giving him the biggest smile we've ever seen him give. And he returned the hug. Gary, on the other hand, didn't seem quite so happy for him, but did manage to fake a smile.
by Anonymous | reply 283 | December 19, 2023 7:08 AM |
So, does this mean we'll see more of Yungshen down the road in other Jeopardy competitions?
by Anonymous | reply 284 | December 19, 2023 1:38 PM |
I'm incredibly embarrassed to admit that I did NOT get Final Jeopardy. I guess I was thrown off by the phrasing that the monument was named after a "place of business," which didn't strike me as referring to a bar. But I know that's a very poor excuse, and I REALLY should have gotten it.
by Anonymous | reply 285 | December 19, 2023 1:50 PM |
Yeah, I was confused by the phrasing and thought they meant a new monument that was recently built and then named after a place of business, not the place of business itself. I knew it was in or near the West Village because of Christopher Garden = Christopher Street and yet still got confused.
I guess "Christopher" was no help to the straight guys. So happy that Yungshen and most of you are smarter than eldergay little old me.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | December 19, 2023 1:58 PM |
R282 I don't think I've ever seen a contestant just answer like that, without buzzing in. Gary had a real brain fart.
Yungshen is (as he said, admiring his husband Chris) "a lot to handle".... a real character.
And, yes, my boy Tyler was magnanimous and happy for Yungshen, hugged him comfortably etc. I am sure Tyler is gay and I'd love to know his relationship with the "General" whom he mentioned as mentor. Don't cock-block my dreaming... sweet Tyler must be gay.....
by Anonymous | reply 287 | December 19, 2023 2:17 PM |
Tyler was extremely polite throughout. Yungshen is certainly intelligent.
by Anonymous | reply 288 | December 19, 2023 2:22 PM |
So, r287, he knew Stonewall was the correct response, but felt he would be outed if he wrote it down?
by Anonymous | reply 289 | December 19, 2023 2:26 PM |
Didn't Yungshen says he was "an acquired taste"?
by Anonymous | reply 290 | December 19, 2023 2:28 PM |
R289 Huh? Last I checked I am gay, and I had no idea what the FJ answer was. I think "monument" threw me off.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | December 19, 2023 2:32 PM |
Those sculptures are indeed referred to as the Stonewall National Monument, and I know that. But for some strange reason, as I noted above, I did NOT get the answer.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | December 19, 2023 2:39 PM |
I had no idea Stonewall was a National Monument either, R291.
It is incredibly difficult for me to accept Tyler as straight after he failed to mention a female significant other. I liked Yungshen, so cute and smart how can one not?
by Anonymous | reply 293 | December 19, 2023 3:55 PM |
I kinda felt bad for Earlobe Gary when he blurted out a correct answer without buzzing in because that enabled Youngshen to quickly answer properly and then follow up with getting the DD.
But wow, I completely forgot Stonewall was a national monument, and I just presumed that park was called Stonewall Park.
I just should have known better given the number of times I've walked near there on my way to or from the IFC Center.
Having said that, I was very happy to see Youngshen win, especially to see him hug a smiling Tyler, who I'm also imagining as being gay.

by Anonymous | reply 298 | December 19, 2023 6:49 PM |
Who is Tyler's "mentor" that he thanked?
by Anonymous | reply 299 | December 19, 2023 6:56 PM |
I had a few "mentors" in my 20s myself.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | December 19, 2023 6:57 PM |
The owners of activeduty.com need to find and sign Tyler immediately.
He'll make more money working for them than he did on "Jeopardy!", that's for sure...
by Anonymous | reply 301 | December 19, 2023 7:30 PM |
^^^ The first time I saw Tyler, I immediately thought of Active Duty's "Brian Effortley." Do a search. I highly recommend his solo.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | December 19, 2023 8:22 PM |
I liked Mike.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | December 19, 2023 11:59 PM |
For the life of me, I have never been able to understand why any contestant would bet all the money they have on a Daily Double, seeing as how Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy are the only occasions in the entire show when people have to make their wagers before seeing the clue. This might make some modicum of sense if someone were so far behind the other contestants that they had no other chance of catching up.. Also, I suppose it matters if the category is one in which the contestant considers themselves an expert. But I still think it's a highly questionable move even in those cases. Certainly, it did NOT work out for Mike in the game that aired tonight.
Can someone explain to me the logic behind this?
by Anonymous | reply 304 | December 20, 2023 12:08 AM |
r304, while I don't agree with this reasoning, I think for some contestants it's just the thrill and fun of being on the show, being on national TV, and getting the chance to do something highly dramatic and risky, even knowing it may not work out well. They'd rather make a big splash. It's certainly not a logical choice but it is an emotional choice.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | December 20, 2023 1:24 AM |
Thanks, R305. Maybe that at least explains why some people do it. But I would think actually winning the game should be every contestant's goal, rather than providing drama.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | December 20, 2023 1:47 AM |
For some contestants the goal is just having a fun experience and gambling high is part of that fun. And for the TV viewer, it can certainly make for a more exciting and less predictable game.
by Anonymous | reply 307 | December 20, 2023 1:52 AM |
Yes, I think there must be an incredible high to take that risk and have the audience cheer you on.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | December 20, 2023 2:28 AM |
For some contestants the goal is just having a fun experience and gambling high is part of that fun.
I would be surprised if anyone would place that goal over winning the game, but of course, I can't speak for any of the contestants. I will say that, after Mike bet everything on a Daily Double tonight and lost it all, he looked very unhappy for the remainder of the game, as if he realized he had made a very foolish wager.
by Anonymous | reply 309 | December 20, 2023 2:53 AM |
I didn't get William & Mary either. I'm sure the comedian needed the $ most, but I don't think he'll get far in the finals.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | December 20, 2023 4:26 AM |
I guessed Harvard and wondered if it was too obviously the wrong response.
Eva started out so well but she just never accumulated much money as she was mainly getting the lower amounts in each category.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | December 20, 2023 1:12 PM |
Uggg! Another Second Chances tournament. I guess this will be followed by more Champions Wildcard contestants from season 39.
When will be start seeing new contestants and get back to regular play?
I knew William & Mary and also knew Final.
While it's exciting to do a true daily double, it's also foolish to do it in the second round unless its a category you're super confident in. Otherwise true daily doubles should only be a part of the first round.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | December 20, 2023 5:29 PM |
R312, it depends on many variables, but again, I think it's often very foolish to wager everything on a Daily Double, whether in the first round or the second round.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | December 20, 2023 6:12 PM |
Regular play resumes in April.
by Anonymous | reply 314 | December 20, 2023 8:47 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 316 | December 20, 2023 11:19 PM |
r313, you were proved very wrong tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | December 20, 2023 11:23 PM |
R314 - a few weeks ago I mentioned I thought I heard Ken say regular games don't begin until April, but when I posted that someone said I misheard.
The bottom line is these Second Chance games are just not as exciting as regular Jeopardy.
The likes of Youngshen and Tyler are rare, and most the contestants are not interesting enough to warrant a repeat visit.
I miss the regular games where a contestant has the potential to go on a long winning streak and amass a sizeable amount of money.

Whatsherface was very clever to bone up on opera trivia before her appearance tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | December 21, 2023 1:25 AM |
3 enormously dull, if smart, players made for a very interesting game tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | December 21, 2023 2:19 AM |
You were proved very wrong tonight.
I didn't see tonight's game, but how was I proved wrong? The fact that some contestants occasionally win big when betting all the money they have on a Daily Double doesn't change my opinion that, generally speaking, it's a foolish move.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | December 21, 2023 3:37 AM |
R319, She might just have been an opera buff. Those were not difficult clues.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | December 21, 2023 3:51 AM |
I thought all three did well with some tough questions, but Lady Macbeth for a Daily Double was too damn easy.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | December 21, 2023 4:22 AM |
Guessed Green Mile for Final. But, did know Molly Pitcher being from NJ. Thought Mobile Bay, John Henry, and Love's Labour's Lost were obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | December 22, 2023 12:00 AM |
Dead Man Walking was a gimme for me! Not surprised none of them knew it though as it would have been hard to connect that title around an opera even if you'd seen the film.
Also knew Molly Pitcher from my NJ childhood.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | December 22, 2023 2:40 AM |
Me, too, because it just was performed at the Met. But I had no idea it had been done by prison inmates.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | December 22, 2023 12:28 PM |
When the Met's DEAD MAN WALKING was recently live streamed they also showed a short documentary of the preparation for the production at Sing Sing. It was thrilling.
I wonder if the opera expert lady from the other night - was her name Javeria, would have guessed it?
by Anonymous | reply 328 | December 22, 2023 1:30 PM |
Bold wagering from Juveria again; she's fast on the buzzer too. Stalin was an odd guess, but Ken's comments really twisted the knife.
by Anonymous | reply 329 | December 23, 2023 6:46 AM |
R329, The word āCanadaā made FJ obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | December 23, 2023 12:56 PM |
Juveria seems quite creepy when she's in game playing mode, but almost human when chatting with Ken.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | December 23, 2023 12:56 PM |
R331, Itās those slot machine eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 332 | December 23, 2023 1:04 PM |
R331 She is also really, really good. If/when they bring back the "all timers" (James, Amy, Matt et. al.), I bet Dr. Zaheer will be there. I wonder how she lost the first time? Who could beat this psychiatrist-automaton-juggernaut?
by Anonymous | reply 333 | December 23, 2023 2:29 PM |
I wonder if she's a good shrink.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | December 23, 2023 2:38 PM |
Is it Javeria or Juveria? Either way I think she's pretty fabulous. I'd love her to be my shrink.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | December 23, 2023 2:44 PM |
Juveria seems quite creepy when she's in game playing mode, but almost human when chatting with Ken.
Exactly! She's really creepy when in game mode. It's like she's a robot. Completely unemotional. Her body language is completely stiff. Even her voice is flat and doesn't reveal anything. She'd be a good poker player. But it really is creepy to see while she's playing.
Then when chatting with Ken, she seems perfectly normal. She seems like a human being who actually feels some emotions. Very off putting how she can switch between the two modes so easily.
Yes, Final was incredibly easy due to the Canada portion of the clue.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | December 23, 2023 9:01 PM |
DeGaulle could have been inferred from Canada. Montreal?
I actually guessed Churchill but thought it was too obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | December 23, 2023 11:25 PM |
I guessed DeGaulle via Montreal. Agreed on the Two Faces of Juveria.
by Anonymous | reply 338 | December 24, 2023 12:37 PM |
Seriously, who did Juveria (a new diabetes prescription) lose to?? Sheās a monster on the clicker.
by Anonymous | reply 339 | December 24, 2023 4:20 PM |
Congrats to Juveria. She just steamrolled over the competition. Super smart and extra fast on the buzzer. a killer combo.
Like r339, I also wonder who is was that she lost to the first time to then put her in the Second Chances competition. Or maybe she was nervous and not quite as confident the first time she was on the Alex Trebek stage and thus was unable to steamroll over the other two.
Anyway, this Second Chances competition was designed to find the Juveria's of the world. People who clearly could have gone far in the game if circumstances had been a little different.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | December 26, 2023 9:54 PM |
Juveria lost to Hannah Wilson, another great player. It was close, but Hannah was the only one who got FJ right.

by Anonymous | reply 348 | December 29, 2023 3:22 AM |
I don't get why "zany" was included in the FJ category, or why the Roman home described was "sit-com worthy."
Those Zany Ancient Romans
In the 20s B.C. the Emperorās sister Octavia had a sitcom-worthy home including the boy & girl twin children of this man & woman.
by Anonymous | reply 349 | December 29, 2023 5:35 AM |
R349 Yeah, "zany" was odd word. As for "sit-com worthy," my first guess would be they were attempting to refer to the "Full House" of children she ended up raising???
by Anonymous | reply 350 | December 29, 2023 6:57 AM |
I thought capital gain was obvious. If you use Clamato, it's a Bloody Caesar. Picture of a guy, so she blurts out "Agatha Christie!" Okay ... knew about Virginia Woolf as well.
To give the youngsters their due, I had no idea of several pop culture answers that seemed obvious to them.

Madame Pele.
by Anonymous | reply 352 | December 30, 2023 12:30 AM |
It appears, as of this week, that Jeopardy! games are no longer being uploaded on YouTube on a daily basis as they have been for quite some time. Previously, they had been available, usually on the day they aired, for less than 24 hours, often disappearing overnight. But at least you catch them if you missed the broadcast (which is 7:30 pm here in the DC area). If they are still there or elsewhere, I canāt find them.
by Anonymous | reply 353 | December 30, 2023 12:49 AM |
It took me a minute but finally came up with PelƩ.
by Anonymous | reply 354 | December 30, 2023 3:17 AM |
Some pretty hard questions, but I got Detroit. Didn't get Mercury. Greg is sharp, but Xanni could pull ahead if she gets some Daily Doubles and continues to wager big.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | December 30, 2023 5:35 AM |
Though I missed it the big clue for Mercury was Messenger in the clue. Mercury was the messenger of the gods.
by Anonymous | reply 356 | December 30, 2023 1:24 PM |
PelƩ seemed pretty obvious for FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 357 | December 30, 2023 2:10 PM |
Not if you know nothing about soccer or Brazil.
by Anonymous | reply 358 | December 30, 2023 2:31 PM |
R358, PelƩ is an international celebrity in his own right. Just his name alone distinguishes him. Knowledge of soccer or Brazil is not necessary.
by Anonymous | reply 359 | December 30, 2023 3:12 PM |
Yep, I remember at one point seeing polls that Pele was the most famous human in the world. I think Michael Jackson replaced him. I bet Messi is the most "known" person in the world now.
by Anonymous | reply 360 | December 30, 2023 3:45 PM |
And even if you don't know Brazilian soccer, PelƩ's recent death was widely-reported in American media, and the fact that he was mononymous lends itself to his name being entered as a word in a dictionary.
by Anonymous | reply 361 | December 30, 2023 7:28 PM |
Xanni had a great game. I had no idea for FJ. Greg had a tricky DD with Thursday and should have wagered more for FJ.

R362, Big Ben was a pretty stupid guess for FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | January 2, 2024 6:11 AM |
Ooops, with the holiday I forgot to watch yesterday. I hope it's online.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | January 2, 2024 1:46 PM |
Good game to start the new year.
They also started it with a new opening. Wonder whether that was a one time thing for the new year or whether its permanent.
Xanni was indeed great. Greg lost some of his spark this second game. Sorry he lost, but very happy to see Xanni win.
I really had no idea on Final. At the last second, I thought of Arc de Triumph, but was confident it wasn't right.

Same category for Final Jeopardy?
by Anonymous | reply 366 | January 2, 2024 11:27 PM |
I thought tonight's Final Jeopardy question was oddly worded, and with the stress of being there, I can totally see why she wrote down the landmark as opposed to the letter.

Landmarks as the Final category again?!? Don't think I've ever seen them do the same category two days in a row.
Michael was quite a good player. Glad to see he won. Wonder who he lost to the first time.
His Star is Born intro was definitely unusual. Maybe that's his favorite movie.
Final seemed so incredibly obvious, I'm stunned all three didn't get it.
I guess the new opening is permanent since they used it again Tuesday night. So, instead of old shot of contestants and Alex, we get a shot of Johnny Gilbert in a gold jacket, among others.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | January 3, 2024 5:00 PM |
The real Johnny Gilbert is NOT what I imagined him to be.
by Anonymous | reply 374 | January 3, 2024 5:33 PM |
The REAL Johnny Gilbert is 95 years old.
About 5 years ago, they had a quick shot of him announcing the contestants at the start of one episode. Alex even commented on him getting some camera time. That was the last time I recall seeing Johnny on camera.
by Anonymous | reply 375 | January 3, 2024 5:36 PM |
So is this guy in the gold jacket just using the name Johnny Gilbert as part of some tradition?
by Anonymous | reply 376 | January 3, 2024 5:38 PM |
R375, 95, so young.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | January 3, 2024 5:41 PM |
No, that's the real Johnny Gilbert in the gold jacket.
The one and only.
They employ him because of his distinctive voice. He's not there announcing before every show. He comes in once or twice a month to tape the introductions. My understanding is former Clue Crew employee Sarah now does the introductions at the actual tapings and they sub in Johnny's intros later.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | January 3, 2024 5:48 PM |
I take it that outside locations are officiallyno more, so Clue Crew is finished?
by Anonymous | reply 379 | January 3, 2024 6:01 PM |
Yes, they officially announced the closure of Clue Crew at the start of this new season. Although I don't think Clue Crew has filmed anything since Alex's death.
Jimmy moved over to be the show's stage manager. Sarah does the audience prep and introductions now, along with hosting the show's podcast..

by Anonymous | reply 397 | January 6, 2024 12:34 PM |
Randall obviously felt he'd ace the black history questions. As with doctors who don't do so with medical categories, and Canadians who let the Americans beat them to the buzzer with Canadiana, things don't always work out as planned.

by Anonymous | reply 399 | January 9, 2024 5:49 AM |
I guessed Dover and Trenton and thought I might have it.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | January 9, 2024 1:14 PM |
Michael should not have been penalized for getting the order wrong in the Reagan dog breed response.
They were only looking for āKing Charlesā, which he responded correctly.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | January 9, 2024 5:09 PM |
I also thought was a shockingly stingy judgment.
by Anonymous | reply 402 | January 9, 2024 5:46 PM |
I figured it was some New England state with the two capitals so close together, but I was thinking New Hampshire and Massachusetts. However, I was drawing a blank on the name of New Hampshire's capital.
Never realized Boston and Providence were so close. That makes Providence practically a suburb of Boston.
Yes, it was mean to take away Michael's money for King Charles cavalier, but he essentially added extra information that was incorrect. Yes, it was the word order that was incorrect, but it was not the correct answer.
If they asked who the president was during the Y2K crisis and you said, "Clinton," you'd be correct. If, however, you said, "Will Clinton" by accident, you'd be wrong since he goes by "Bill."
That's why the show tells contestants to only answer with last names unless otherwise instructed.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | January 9, 2024 6:03 PM |
I immediately guessed Providence, due to Rhode Island's size, but went the other direction to Hartford, Connecticut. I had no idea about who founded any of these places, though.
by Anonymous | reply 404 | January 9, 2024 6:18 PM |
I feel like this 2nd chance tournament has been going on for two years. Is there a bracket or something we can refer to?
by Anonymous | reply 405 | January 9, 2024 6:34 PM |
Second Chances and Champions Wildcard have been going on since September. So, we're in month five.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | January 9, 2024 6:44 PM |
R403, When practically all of the gay bars closed in Boston, Providence became the new go to city.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | January 9, 2024 6:46 PM |
I got final because a few years ago, we took a vacation to Boston. I had way too many things planned, so the last day I made my husband leave Boston, go to Plymouth Rock, take the Lizzy Borden tour in Fall River, then swing by Brown to walk around before driving to the middle of Pennsylvania that evening.
by Anonymous | reply 408 | January 9, 2024 11:03 PM |
From reading this thread, I saw that I missed Yungshengās return right before Christmas. Too bad. He cracked me up. He was so expressive.
Bow tied Asian guy not to be mistaken for the other bowtied Asian guy Mike whose ties and pocket squares were made out of Legos. He was adorable.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | January 9, 2024 11:09 PM |
Final was another give-away.
by Anonymous | reply 410 | January 9, 2024 11:58 PM |
All three made a lot of mistakes. I had no idea for pike, but wouldn't have wagered much on a fish question.
by Anonymous | reply 411 | January 10, 2024 4:19 AM |
Was it the woman in the middle who was making all those weird sound effects?
by Anonymous | reply 412 | January 10, 2024 4:24 AM |
Yes, R412. What was up with her? She was very weird.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | January 10, 2024 12:10 PM |
The contestants last night were not only incredibly stupid but dreadful to have to look at. Why do they keep bringing these losers back.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | January 10, 2024 12:21 PM |
Rooting for Penise!
by Anonymous | reply 415 | January 10, 2024 11:31 PM |
Just watched the episode. Penise, lol!
by Anonymous | reply 416 | January 11, 2024 1:18 AM |
I liked the mellow Clevelander, but his awful, ill-fitting jacket was crying out for some queer eye.
by Anonymous | reply 417 | January 11, 2024 4:34 AM |
I thought that was Marilu Henner reading a clue, but it was Ellie Kemper.
by Anonymous | reply 418 | January 11, 2024 6:59 PM |
At the end of the show, Cleveland guy went over to hug the champ, and then looked like he was about to do the same to the woman on the right.
Then she put her head down, and it looked like she mouthed the word "no."
Having said that, I think these endless Second Chance and Wildcard games are Jeopardy Purgatory.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | January 11, 2024 7:25 PM |
God I was happy to hear that we're finally at the end of this second chance bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 420 | January 12, 2024 1:15 AM |
Poor Cleveland guy. Michael Valelly. He is the guy who said he had six unsuccessful cancer surgeries on a previous game.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | January 12, 2024 1:29 AM |
Tonight, Long was not very happy when everybody kept the DD. He didnāt clap. He just stood there.
It worked out for him anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 422 | January 12, 2024 1:30 AM |
I knew FJ right away, only because Iām old enough to remember Pop Art.
Great come from behind win for Long.
by Anonymous | reply 423 | January 12, 2024 2:36 AM |
I never had Pop Tarts as a kid because my parents wouldn't buy them; when I finally got to try them, I couldn't believe how crappy they tasted. I thought all three would get FJ; it was a good game.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | January 12, 2024 4:16 AM |
They are much better heated, if you tried them raw out of the box - especially brown sugar cinnamon.
by Anonymous | reply 426 | January 12, 2024 5:05 PM |
Great game last night.
Surprised Long ended up the victor. But Long also surprised me in knowing as much as he did last night.
I really had no idea on Final
by Anonymous | reply 427 | January 12, 2024 5:26 PM |
Long was really behind in the first round. Even he was surprised when he won.
by Anonymous | reply 428 | January 12, 2024 6:02 PM |
I had just watched the Gary Gulman special on Netflix so it was a no brainer. BTW, funniest stuff I've seen in ages.
by Anonymous | reply 429 | January 12, 2024 6:42 PM |
And I'm old, so I know of Pop Art!
(Also a major fan of Gary Gulman! The "Trader Joe's" bit? Hilarious!)
by Anonymous | reply 430 | January 12, 2024 6:54 PM |
Pop Tarts seemed so incredibly obvious because the clue said something about fruit, an art movement, and I believe the 1960s.
We had them around that time, though I havenāt eaten one in decades. They were definitely better toasted ā and then spread with a bit of butter to make them even more unhealthy.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | January 12, 2024 7:34 PM |
Got an email today from Jeopardy! saying Champions Wildcard for season 39 starts on Tuesday. A total of 54 players are in the wildcard -- 50 former champions plus 4 season 39 Second Chances winners. Whoever the winner is then advances to the Tournament of Champions.
With 54 players, it sound like this Season 39 Champions Wildcard will take 5-6 weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 432 | January 12, 2024 8:27 PM |
SOPRANOS!
by Anonymous | reply 433 | January 12, 2024 11:37 PM |
Jeez tonight was the worst of the worst. There completely charm free mentality challenged contestants. How did none of them know what a windsor knot is. Like I just like a slab pretty much all of the time but I know how to dial myself up when needed and I know what a f****** tie knot is especially the most basic one.
by Anonymous | reply 434 | January 13, 2024 12:54 AM |
Long came from behind twice in two days.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | January 13, 2024 12:55 AM |
But none of them could identify The Sopranos? That's some weird shit.
I was kinda glad when the white guy on the end - Matt? - lost all his money on that DD and never recovered.
by Anonymous | reply 436 | January 13, 2024 12:58 AM |
That's okay; some dame on "Master Minds" didn't know what "menagerie" means. Picked (of multiple choice) "china collection."
by Anonymous | reply 437 | January 13, 2024 1:07 AM |
Matt was so smug, it kind of felt good when he collapsed. I would have guessed Lizzie Bordon too, though.
by Anonymous | reply 438 | January 13, 2024 1:27 AM |
Amstel was hard. Those all in wagers are very bold.
by Anonymous | reply 439 | January 13, 2024 3:35 AM |
I didn't get FJ. I suck at rivers.
by Anonymous | reply 440 | January 13, 2024 3:51 AM |
Long getting Amstel established his Jeopardy credentials to me. He's going to win Monday and I predict he'll go far in the next phase.
by Anonymous | reply 441 | January 13, 2024 3:11 PM |
Long has that funny habit of hesitating when he's called on for a response and creating great tension in the game.
by Anonymous | reply 442 | January 13, 2024 5:24 PM |
Thought Othello was obvious. Not Jewish, but got etrog right away.
Roy's sweater was atrocious.

Pretty shocking not to know Robeson.
by Anonymous | reply 444 | January 16, 2024 12:05 AM |
I know too much about Robeson and guessed The Emperor Jones.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | January 16, 2024 12:38 AM |
I guessed kangaroo mouse too. Rats.
by Anonymous | reply 446 | January 16, 2024 2:23 AM |
God will get Roy for that.
by Anonymous | reply 447 | January 16, 2024 4:20 AM |
Long was super impressive. Glad to see him win so big.
I vaguely remember him from his first appearance, but don't recall who he was up against. Who was it that defeated him the first time? Cris Panullo?
by Anonymous | reply 448 | January 16, 2024 5:16 PM |
Long lost his first game to Stephen Webb, a great player whose win that night was his 6th and who will be in the next TOC too.
by Anonymous | reply 449 | January 16, 2024 6:52 PM |
I thought the winner tonight was the definition of adorkable. And he got that wickedly cruel FJ.
Those 2 ladies weren't much competition. Hard to imagine they were ever winners or were deserving of this second chance.
Anyone else think that "askance glance" was a perfectly acceptable response even though the judges ruled against it.
by Anonymous | reply 450 | January 17, 2024 12:14 AM |
Sharon Stone has really let herself go.
by Anonymous | reply 451 | January 17, 2024 12:44 AM |

Yes, I did. I thought that the judges should have accepted that as an answer.
by Anonymous | reply 452 | January 17, 2024 1:37 AM |
I was puzzled that they refused askance glance, too.
Winner's kid sounds damn precocious.

I was puzzled that no one knew āhard boiled eggā.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | January 17, 2024 4:36 AM |
Katie kind of reminded me of Mindy Cohn. I had no idea for FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 455 | January 17, 2024 4:44 AM |
Did even 50% of tonightās clues get a correct response? Iāll grant that the game seemed like slightly higher than average difficulty, but still ā so many softballs and so many strikeouts.
by Anonymous | reply 456 | January 17, 2024 5:09 AM |
R451, Iām shocked.
by Anonymous | reply 457 | January 17, 2024 2:06 PM |
Tuesdayās game was borderline torturous to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 458 | January 17, 2024 2:07 PM |
Because askance doesn't mean anything close to random. Just cuz it rhymes doesn't mean they should get a pass especially since it doesn't it all fit what the clue is.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | January 17, 2024 3:34 PM |
When "soft boiled eggs" turned out to be a wrong response, how difficult would it have been for one of the other two contestants to buzz in with "hard boiled"?
I mean, really?!
by Anonymous | reply 460 | January 17, 2024 3:37 PM |
Devin, what were you thinking with that ugly ass beige tee shirt??
Your piercing eyes are blue. Take a hint!
Also, he was a rather weak player.
LOVED the grandma! So sweet. Wanted her to win but knew early on it wasn't gonna happen.
by Anonymous | reply 462 | January 17, 2024 11:36 PM |
The champ was impressive and she seemed nice.
by Anonymous | reply 463 | January 18, 2024 12:01 AM |
Juveria was a juggernaut. Though she was playing against somewhat uninspiring opponents. Loved Patti ā sweet grandma. I remember when she was on originally, and I hoped that she would go far. Devin is totally adorable but didnāt stand a chance tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 464 | January 18, 2024 12:14 AM |
I guessed Empire State building for FJ
I like Javeria , from Day 1 in Jeopardy she has been crushing it.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | January 18, 2024 12:39 AM |
Devin really committed to the bit. Iām surprised he never slipped out of that super deep Sam Elliott vocal impersonation.
by Anonymous | reply 466 | January 18, 2024 3:18 AM |
I guessed the Eiffel Tower for FJ. I really don't know how Javeria came up with the right answer, though the building is famous, I wouldn't have connected that remark about it. Also, with its "minimalist" look, wouldn't have guessed it was built as early as the 1880s.
by Anonymous | reply 467 | January 18, 2024 12:36 PM |
Seriously, R467?
The Washington Monument seemed the obvious response to me.
by Anonymous | reply 468 | January 18, 2024 2:30 PM |
I came up with the right answer. Second choice would've been Statue of Liberty.
by Anonymous | reply 469 | January 18, 2024 2:58 PM |
When does this horseshit end?
by Anonymous | reply 470 | January 18, 2024 3:10 PM |
Bedtime reading: At Random, the memoirs of Bennett Cerf. Made me take a second look at the leering, punning panelist of What's My Line. I of course was aware of the importance of Random House in publishing history, but Cerf's life included palling around with Lawrence, Joyce, Shaw, Welty, Faulkner, Lewis, the Gershwins, and more. He dated Miriam Hopkins and his first wife was Sylvia Sydney. A very entertaining romp, and its short chapters make it perfect before sleep.
by Anonymous | reply 471 | January 18, 2024 3:13 PM |
Second Chance and Champions Wildcard was made for people like Junevia, Long and Yungshen. So glad they're getting a decent chance to shine.
Great game Wednesday after such a dull game on Tuesday! I liked Grandma a lot, sorry she doesn't get to go further.
My initial response to Final was the Statue of Liberty, but then I realized it didn't come to America until 1885. I pondered for a while on what the correct answer might be and at the last second came up with the Washington Monument. However, I would not have had time to write it down if I had been playing the actual game.
by Anonymous | reply 472 | January 18, 2024 5:07 PM |
I first thought Eiffel Tower, but, of course, the answer needed to be "American", so no... but the key for me was "highest", and that led me to Washington Monument.
Just an obvious observation: some games I get absolutely everything and I think, "oh, I could be great on Jeopardy." Other games I get absolutely nothing. The randomness of it all. Hence the value of bringing back players like Juveria, who lost once, but now seems like a superior player.
by Anonymous | reply 473 | January 18, 2024 5:38 PM |
Juveria is brilliant
by Anonymous | reply 474 | January 18, 2024 8:34 PM |
Juveria could make millions leasing her name out to a drug company.
Surely there's a new diabetes drug just waiting to be called Juveria.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | January 18, 2024 8:37 PM |
Juveria's knowledge really seems to span all categories.
Her hug of Grandma Patti was so sweet.
by Anonymous | reply 476 | January 18, 2024 8:56 PM |
Also, with its "minimalist" look, wouldn't have guessed it was built as early as the 1880s.
Actually, R467, construction on the Washington Monument was done in two phases. Construction began in 1848 and stopped in 1854. If you look at the Monument you can clearly see where they stopped and then where they began again in 1876 until it was completed in 1884.
The minimalist look of the Monument is because it is built in the shape of an Egyptian obelisk, purportedly evoking the timelessness of ancient civilizations. When it was completed, the Washington Monument was the tallest building in the world at 555 feet, 5-1/8 inches.
The original design incorporated a round colonnade around the base, which was abandoned, and had a flat top instead of the pointed one that was ultimately used.

Fuck off R475.

by Anonymous | reply 479 | January 18, 2024 11:59 PM |
I guessed the same FJ wrong answer as the three contestants.
by Anonymous | reply 480 | January 19, 2024 12:02 AM |
As did I, and I'm betting at least 90 per cent of the TV audience, r480.
by Anonymous | reply 481 | January 19, 2024 12:40 AM |
I thought Bryan would get Calder. Good contestants and game. I somehow blanked on Hadestown, but got 42nd Street, where the underworld can meet the elite...
by Anonymous | reply 482 | January 20, 2024 4:41 AM |
How could she not know the correct response on the DD was Howard Hughes?
by Anonymous | reply 483 | January 20, 2024 4:44 AM |
I guessed TN also for final.
Surprised they missed Andrew Wyeth (Christina's World clue).
by Anonymous | reply 484 | January 22, 2024 11:59 PM |
BOB DYLAN!
by Anonymous | reply 485 | January 23, 2024 12:02 AM |

R486, Jelly?

by Anonymous | reply 488 | January 23, 2024 2:55 AM |
Holly looked like Frances McDormand. I was sure that Daniel would get FJ and win. Good game.
by Anonymous | reply 489 | January 23, 2024 3:19 AM |
Really good game. I liked all three.
However, I figured it would be Daniel who would win. Was surprised by Ron's late surge.
I guessed Ohio for Final.
by Anonymous | reply 490 | January 23, 2024 4:44 AM |
I guessed Carole King for "Beautiful Noise." Sorry, Neil.
by Anonymous | reply 491 | January 23, 2024 7:37 PM |
Ron Cheung is quite good-looking. Hello, professor.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | January 23, 2024 8:01 PM |
The channel that is jeopardy here also shows the local NBA team games for the first time in like 20 years or something and they keep pre-empting Jeopardy and it's pissing me off. Tonight I figured it'd be probably be on at 5:30 cuz reliably when it gets preempted it's usually on at 5:30 or 11:00 p.m. but tonight it was on at 5:00 and I missed all The final Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | January 23, 2024 11:26 PM |
Good game but I sure didn't expect Robbi to win. Thought it would be Xanni or Lynn.
Final seemed rather easy.
by Anonymous | reply 494 | January 24, 2024 7:29 AM |
A male-appearing person called "Robbi" I fully expected to be a they, not a he.
by Anonymous | reply 495 | January 24, 2024 11:56 AM |
Platoon was the only movie of his I could think of.
Anyone else surprised they couldn't come up with "desertion"?
by Anonymous | reply 496 | January 24, 2024 11:58 PM |
I had forgotten that Stone wrote Scarface.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | January 25, 2024 1:11 AM |
I forgot Rubens.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | January 25, 2024 4:10 AM |
I was racking my brain trying to come up with a screenplay Oliver Stone might have written in 1983. Scarface popped to mind, but I dismissed the idea. Oliver Stone's involvement certainly didn't receive much press attention at the time. I guess Brian De Palma directing overshadowed him.
Lloyd seemed especially restless. He couldn't stand still. Constantly moving or twitching about. I wonder if that was just being nervous or is he that way in the classroom too.
by Anonymous | reply 499 | January 25, 2024 5:51 PM |
I liked all three contestants. Alec was an impressive player.
I really had no idea on Final, but guessed War & Peace. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be right.
by Anonymous | reply 500 | January 26, 2024 5:10 PM |
I thought War & Peace was the obvious answer though I've never read it.
by Anonymous | reply 501 | January 26, 2024 5:13 PM |
I guessed Les Miz.
by Anonymous | reply 502 | January 26, 2024 5:39 PM |
War and Peace was easy if you knew who the Decembrists were. If not, it was a really difficult question.
by Anonymous | reply 503 | January 26, 2024 5:49 PM |
No spoilers - I was [bold] very [/bold] happy for the "Celebrity Jeopardy!" winner. They were truly shocked and seemed very gracious.

Bernadette Peters??
by Anonymous | reply 512 | January 27, 2024 2:11 AM |
The way Tamara holds herself and her buzzer is off putting.
by Anonymous | reply 513 | January 27, 2024 2:19 AM |
Tamara had a bit of a post-80s Kathleen Turner vibe. I dumbly guessed "appropriate" for that Daily Double that killed her chances. Michael is super quick to buzz in and answer.
by Anonymous | reply 514 | January 27, 2024 2:33 AM |
Bernadette Peters??
Seriouslyl .. lol. But at least Bernadette Peters sings and follows Streisand chronologically. The other guy said "Hepburn." WTF?

I feel mine should have been the first name on that list.
by Anonymous | reply 518 | January 27, 2024 10:56 PM |
I was so happy when my adorkable guy won tonight!
Very proud of him for getting that FJ which I thought was hard. I guessed Jean Valjean, knowing he probably wasn't superhero material. My husband guessed Count of Monte Cristo, which seemed more probable, but we were both wrong.
And I did like the sweet lady tonight, too. Would have been happy if she'd won.
by Anonymous | reply 519 | January 30, 2024 2:59 AM |
I guessed the Count of Monte Cristo too. Tough one, but Andy came through, more than making up for his slip-up on Greece.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | January 30, 2024 3:13 AM |
The Scarlett Pimpernel seemed very obvious because the clue mentioned that (1) the title character used an alias, and (2) the book was set during the French Revolution. The answers for the other two contestants werenāt aliases. And the Count of Monte Cristo was set in the early 19th century. At least Sydney Carton, from A Tale of Two Cities, matched the correct historical period.
by Anonymous | reply 521 | January 30, 2024 3:34 AM |
Sydney Carton wasn't the title character.
by Anonymous | reply 522 | January 30, 2024 3:37 AM |

Could not agree more.
His stupid hand gesture, or whatever that was supposed to be when he was introduced, was idiotic.
If I were one of his students I would never take anything he ever said seriously because that image would be engrained in my head.
by Anonymous | reply 524 | January 30, 2024 3:04 PM |
I liked Martha. Sorry to see her go.
Not sad about Lloyd's departure. He had a good streak in the second round, but also came off as pompous.
Andy seems rather bland, but also fairly smart.
I really had no idea on Final. Guessed the Count of Monte Cristo, but figured it was wrong.
Juveria returns tonight, so I'm rooting for her.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | January 30, 2024 5:40 PM |
How will I live without hearing Lloyd's take on Omoo??
by Anonymous | reply 526 | January 30, 2024 6:16 PM |
I think "The Scarlet Pimpernel" may be too lowbrow to be in Lloyd's literary wheelhouse.
by Anonymous | reply 527 | January 30, 2024 6:31 PM |
Creighton and Rice seemed obvious to me.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | January 31, 2024 12:43 AM |
Until tonight I thought Captain Bligh was a fictional character in some Victorian pirate tale.
Anyone else?
by Anonymous | reply 529 | January 31, 2024 12:56 AM |
I mean.....if I thought about Captain Bligh at all.

r529 Of course I only knew he was a real person because of the "the movies were based on a real mutiny ..." and there were real survivors on Pitcairn Island etc. etc. And I guessed Capt. Cook anyway so I guess I'm lying.
Glad Jardiance moved on to the next round.. I like her a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 531 | January 31, 2024 2:40 AM |
I guessed Cook too, but now see he was dead to me in 1793. Robbie's Daily Doubles were exciting.
by Anonymous | reply 532 | January 31, 2024 2:42 AM |
Duh, Of course. How could I have forgotten Charles Laughton's brilliant performance.
by Anonymous | reply 533 | January 31, 2024 2:43 AM |
Whew! I was worried about Jardiance there for a while. Thought Bigfoot Robbi might actually beat her. But she pulled it off in the end.
I really had no idea in Final. I likely would have guessed Cook if I had been playing,
Bligh never crossed my mind. Never really bothered to ponder whether he was real or fictional, despite Charles Laughton's excellent performance of him.
by Anonymous | reply 534 | January 31, 2024 4:31 AM |
What am I, chopped liver?
by Anonymous | reply 535 | January 31, 2024 12:51 PM |
Yes, Trevor, you are. Served with mango and coconuts.
by Anonymous | reply 536 | January 31, 2024 1:15 PM |
Guessed Victoria lol
by Anonymous | reply 537 | February 2, 2024 1:33 AM |
My first thought was Victoria, and then I realized that it had to be Adelaide.
Was surprised that Juveria didnāt get it.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | February 2, 2024 2:00 AM |
The poor chubby bald guy looked like he really hates Juveria.
by Anonymous | reply 539 | February 2, 2024 2:37 AM |
She lucked out on those easy Daily Doubles.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | February 2, 2024 11:25 AM |
Yes, r359, he thought he had nailed the game. And that stupid Ashton Kutcher anecdote!
by Anonymous | reply 541 | February 2, 2024 12:41 PM |
I thought Adelaide was a very easy FJ. Couldn't believe Juveria didn't know it and guessed Melbourne (wtf?). Oh yeah, Queen Melbourne, wife of King Athelred the Unready. She was a bit off her game but I bet will make a big comeback today.
Though I'm rooting for Mr. Adorkable.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | February 2, 2024 4:22 PM |
The guy in the middle - forget his name - looked like a young Stephen King.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | February 2, 2024 4:39 PM |
I thought Victoria for Final. Adelaide never crossed my mind.
Was a pleasure to see Juveria come from behind the second half and trounce fat bald guy Michael in the process.
Rooting for her to win and move on to the TOC
by Anonymous | reply 544 | February 2, 2024 8:17 PM |
Had no idea of Final. Juveria deserved to win.
by Anonymous | reply 545 | February 3, 2024 12:21 AM |
Guessed Sherman tank for FJ. Wrong! That was really hard.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | February 3, 2024 2:00 AM |
I'm embarrassed to say that I thought of the Hawkeyes, which reminded me of the Black Hawk helicopter, so basically just a guess that turned out to be right.
by Anonymous | reply 547 | February 3, 2024 2:31 AM |
I didn't know a lot tonight but I did know Billy Wilder and The Wife of Bath.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | February 5, 2024 11:21 PM |
I knew Angkor Wat right away but said Thailand instead of Cambodia.
Itās interesting how I could picture the place right away, though Iāve never seen the Cambodian flag. šš¤·š»āāļø
by Anonymous | reply 549 | February 6, 2024 12:31 AM |
What a languid boring group of players tonight. The lazy category sure was appropriate.
by Anonymous | reply 550 | February 6, 2024 1:02 AM |
Knew final immediately, and guessed Wife of Bath and fanfare correctly.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | February 6, 2024 1:04 AM |
Princess Diana ā¤ļø
by Anonymous | reply 552 | February 6, 2024 1:13 AM |
Aw, I think the winner is adorable even if not the strongest player ever.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | February 6, 2024 2:19 AM |
Ken said wouldnāt it be nice if there really were a āstud finderā.
Hmm . . .
by Anonymous | reply 554 | February 6, 2024 2:52 AM |
R553, I thought Mira was going to go down in flames, but she really came back strong in DJ.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | February 6, 2024 2:54 AM |
Dull game. Dull contestants. But Mira's comeback in the second half was indeed impressive. And she was so gracious to the other two at the end, thanking both for a fun game.
I had no idea on Final. Don't think I've ever heard of Angkor Wat.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | February 6, 2024 5:15 PM |
Hopeless me, I thought of India for FJ with the Taj Mahal in mind.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | February 6, 2024 5:20 PM |
Silly me. I thought it was China.
by Anonymous | reply 558 | February 6, 2024 5:29 PM |
That was a pretty hard game last night.
FJ was easy, however.
Agree with others: Very boring bunch of players.
by Anonymous | reply 559 | February 6, 2024 5:34 PM |
R554 - I thought it was Kate who said it would be nice if there were a stud finder.
Initially I was rooting for her despite my having an issue with fat people.
But her having 350 earrings, coupled with the funny faces she would make after responding, made it too difficult.
Mira made an impressive comeback, but I found her to be irritatingly cutesy.
And that guy - why was he even there?
Too often he was just guessing and then laughing at his incorrect responses.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | February 6, 2024 8:53 PM |
R560, Kate giggled while making her stud finder response and then Ken chimed in with his remark.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | February 6, 2024 9:55 PM |
Thanks for reminding me, R560. Ken's comment was quite something I thought, almost as though he were signaling winky-winky.
by Anonymous | reply 562 | February 6, 2024 10:26 PM |
Yikes! Was that not the hardest FJ ever??
I think even if I spoke German I wouldn't have known that character.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | February 6, 2024 11:45 PM |
Another "they" with a "they" doppelganger!
No idea of Final.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | February 6, 2024 11:58 PM |
FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE!
by Anonymous | reply 565 | February 7, 2024 12:08 AM |
I had to study āHeart of Darknessā as an undergrad. Iāve seen āApocalypse Nowā several times.
I had NO IDEA what the answer was in FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | February 7, 2024 12:12 AM |
I also guessed stork though in retrospect nightingale was pretty obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | February 7, 2024 12:12 AM |
Well, I got "FJ," and I haven't read the book nor do I know any German beyond numbers (and a few words, heh).
Just put together the year, "enigmatic," and "German." Couldn't be Bartleby the Scrivener ("I'd prefer not to"), and only one other character came to mind!
by Anonymous | reply 568 | February 7, 2024 1:36 AM |
Meant to sign the above.....
by Anonymous | reply 569 | February 7, 2024 1:37 AM |
I was thinking, "pan, pan must be short in German"....
A big fan of Heart of Darkness... it seemed 1902 was too early.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | February 7, 2024 2:29 AM |
Always Joan of Arc
by Anonymous | reply 571 | February 7, 2024 11:52 PM |
I got FJ, I like to beat the contestants.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | February 7, 2024 11:58 PM |
I knew FJ also.
Watching from Naples, appreciate the shout-out, Pickleball is, indeed, a big deal here.
by Anonymous | reply 573 | February 8, 2024 12:06 AM |
R573,
Iām in Naples as well. However, Iāve never played Pickleball.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | February 8, 2024 12:16 AM |
Well, I was in the general vicinity cause I thought of one of the pyramids. š
by Anonymous | reply 575 | February 8, 2024 12:29 AM |
Damn, R574!
by Anonymous | reply 576 | February 8, 2024 12:38 AM |
Wasn't handsome Taylor the butt of lots of speculation on his first Jeopardy appearance? Did we ever figure out of he's gay?
Did you care??
No idea on FJ. Guessed Mt. Parnassus which probably isn't even one of the 7 Wonders. Couldn't believe no one could identify Toulouse-Lautrec!
by Anonymous | reply 577 | February 8, 2024 1:09 AM |
Lisa was pissed at the end of the game. Thereās no way a smile could cross that face. Even put her hand on her hip, ready to contest something. Not a good look.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | February 8, 2024 5:16 AM |
No one could identify a full length photograph of Toulouse Lautrec?
by Anonymous | reply 579 | February 8, 2024 7:55 AM |
Taylor is quite sexy.
Justin looks like 1st Runner Up in a James Taylor lookalike contest.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | February 8, 2024 7:59 AM |
R578, Lisa doesnāt know how to fucking bet. Her only play was to bet nothing and hope Taylor gets FJ wrong. What a maroon.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | February 8, 2024 1:12 PM |
Yeah, she came across as one of the cut-throats rather than appreciating the experience no matter what.
by Anonymous | reply 582 | February 8, 2024 1:26 PM |
Lisa was definitely one of the more aggressive and cut-throat players I've ever seen, which is why it seemed so odd she lost her mojo after missing the Daily Double.
Taylor was a much more calm and steady player. He deserved to advance to the semi-final.
I guessed the Great Pyramid for Final.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | February 8, 2024 6:04 PM |
OF MICE AND MEN!
I was screaming at the television
by Anonymous | reply 584 | February 8, 2024 11:32 PM |
*I* got final right away.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | February 8, 2024 11:58 PM |
I remember Alex from his story of missing his medical school graduation to be on the show. He did well with the DD but like the other two, missed on FJ.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | February 9, 2024 12:09 AM |
I know virtually nothing about Johnny Cash but I knew the title was I Walk the Line.
And Of Mice and Men!!!!
Nevertheless, LOVE Alex and thrilled to see him back. There is a serenity about him, for want of a better word/phrase, that is so sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | February 9, 2024 12:36 AM |
Lucky me. "I" never saw the movie, so there was no confusion over the full name of the song.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | February 9, 2024 12:58 AM |
No one knew Clark Gable was married to Carole Lombard?
by Anonymous | reply 589 | February 9, 2024 1:53 AM |
Probably not a fact known to people their age.
by Anonymous | reply 590 | February 9, 2024 11:10 PM |
What was the question, r584? I didn't see it, and I once taught the novel to high school students.
(Best movie adaptation stars Gary Sinise and John Malkovich.)
by Anonymous | reply 591 | February 9, 2024 11:49 PM |
I was rooting for sexy Patrick, alas . . .
by Anonymous | reply 592 | February 10, 2024 5:52 PM |
R590, Ridiculous. Their relationship, marriage and her fatal plane crash are a part of Hollywood legend.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | February 10, 2024 5:55 PM |
IIRC the the clue referred to a bestseller by Steinbeck...or was it to the Salinas Valley? And the the first 2 contestants answered The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. The third still couldn't venture a guess which was pretty lame at that point.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | February 10, 2024 6:39 PM |
R591, i don't remember exactly but Ken mentioned Steinbeck and immediately anyone who had read Steinbeck or passed a high school lit class should know it was of mice and men
by Anonymous | reply 595 | February 10, 2024 9:39 PM |
The clue was quoting from the book that included something like "those two guys over there."
by Anonymous | reply 596 | February 10, 2024 9:58 PM |
Well, apparently you're wrong, r593.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | February 10, 2024 9:59 PM |
Is Jesse gay? He's cute.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | February 10, 2024 10:00 PM |
I love Jane Eyre so FJ was easy for me. But really hard if you're not familiar with the book or even read it once in high school.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | February 10, 2024 10:01 PM |
Except that the use of the address, "Reader , . . . .etc." is pretty iconic even if you don't know the whole book. Except, of course, to the three contestants.
