Faye Dunaway in The Eyes of Laura Mars
1) This is an honorary Barbra Streisand film as she performs the title song.
2) Faye Dunaway overacts in this.
3) Faye Dunaway looks 45 in this when she was only 37.
4) It’s basically a precursor to Mommie Dearest with its campy over the top yelling every 5 minutes.
5) It’s a DL fave.
PS: I think this is one of those rare instances where it would have been a better film had Barbra kept the leading role and if the director had gotten her to show her vulnerable side.

The term "chewing the scenery" was invented because of Faye Dunaway's acting.

Tommy Lee Jones was handsome in this. Terrible skin, though.

R3 this was basically his only sex scene in his career that I’m aware of.

I think they should remake this and update it. I'd have the plot reverse and have Laura Mars be the detective.

We’ve got multiple Eyes of Laura Mars threads going recently. No need for another new one Op

All those earth tones in Laura's wardrobe. She had 94 brown-blouse-and-beige-skirt ensembles.
Did the woman own a single piece in gray?

LOL I forgot Mona Croft from The Doctors was the first victim. I remember seeing it high school, and a bunch of us saying 'Mona...no!" lol.

Faye looked really bad in this. It's hard to believe this was only 11 years after she was a luscious beauty in Bonnie & Clyde.

She wasn't playing a glamour part in EOLM, r10. The character of Laura Mars was purposefully meant to appear dowdy to contrast her with the glitzy high-fashion models for her photo shoots. She was supposed to look sort of witchlike and spooky because she had the strange psychic connection to the killer, who was also dressed dowdily and was also an oddball type.

Written by John Carpenter and Tommy Lee Jones. Wonder what those writers meetings looked like.

Barbra or Karen would have been hilarious. "The Slightly Crossed Eyes of Laura Mars."

Ok, I'm sorry I can't remember where or when I I read this, but in an interview with one of the Make-Up Artists who worked on the film at the time, was asked about Faye Dunaway, his first response was, "I don't know what she does with her nights but it's murder on the eyes."

R4, Tommy was in The Betsy where I’m pretty sure he had a sex scene and bared his ass.
Did the same with Sally Field in Back Roads.
Tommy wasn’t a romantic leading man in the ‘70s but he was a sexy one.
Also, this is a terrible movie.

Julie Christie would have been better in this. Faye is just not a sympathetic actress.

It's a nice time capsule of NY in the late 70s. It's interesting to see Soho when it was still kind of a dump and not the Soho we all know today.

I love the scenes in the police station when the fashion crew are all brought in for questioning. The shot of the hairdresser combing one of the model's hair is hilarious.

When I moved to Canada as a youngster in 1978, one of the first things I started to buy was MAD magazine…
I’ll always remember their take on it:
“The Eyes of Lurid Mess”.
And having seen it, that description is entirely apposite…

Dunaway was nervous about her first post-Oscar film, was struggling in her marriage to Peter Wolf and had to lose forty pounds for the movie. Producer Jon Peters noted it was a difficult and emotional set, but felt that his nineteen years as a hairdresser made him adept in that type of environment. Additionally his hairdressing background also came into play when the hands-on producer flew to New York to color Dunaway’s hair during production.

R39 are you sure Faye Dunaway lost 40 pounds? 40 pounds is a lot for her frame and would have shown the previous year.

Yes you have a point about her driving but then she could not anticipate when the next vision would occur so what could she do?

R44 yes, but the fact it was an AMC pacer and she chewed the scenery like a banshee makes it camp.

Julie Christie would have been perfect and gorgeous in this.
But she never would have deigned to appear in such pap, especially after doing the actual quality thriller Don't Look Now just a few years before.
