When it’s literally changing the colour of people’s hair and eyes it’s too much. Joe’s eyes are obviously a very dark blue grey but they visibly brown in a lot of scenes and Kit’s hair colour looked almost dyed red (like that guy from Riverdale) rather than his natural ginger. Colour was just off

R90 For the kissing montage, I think part of it is that a lot of shots were squeezed into tiny panels, so their quality is a bit more diluted than usual. You can see the difference in parallel sets like this one. That said, I'm really fond of this parallel, it was cute and clever to shoot them from the same angle as the S1 flirting.

Darren got plenty of songs and solos, and from what I remember of the show, Chris didn't get as much but got meatier dramatic scenes. Still, most fans saw songs and solos as the #1 measuring stick. Heartstopper doesn't have an equivalent like that.

I also think it helps that Nick and Charlie are the main characters and main couple from the jump. Kurt existed for an entire season before Blaine came along in S2, so I imagine Chris more acutely felt the Pre-Love Interest vs. Post-Love Interest effect. Joe will experience a variant of this when Hulkling comes into play for Wiccan, but I can't imagine that being a sour point. It's an iconic queer relationship and he'd have no ignorance about that relationship being anticipated.

I faintly recall Chris and Darren getting fatigued with Kurt/Blaine because they felt they weren't given much drama to work with as actors, and that's not a concern for Heartstopper at all even though Nick and Charlie aren't going to have any break-up or infidelity scandals or whatever. The show can have an idealistic lens, but by virtue of being the main characters/couple with lots of screen time, Joe and Kit get a lot of opportunites to flex and hone their acting skills.

Lea Michele had the loudest voice and was his favorite, so she was singing the bulk of the female solos. Ryan was obsessed with Darren Criss and so was the female fanbase, so he was singing the bulk of the male solos. Lea isn't a terrible singer, but putting Naya Rivera and especially Amber Riley on the back burner was moronic. Naya was also a much more natural actress than Lea.
