The three main men, one of whom isn't even a lead, are doing an A24 film as a lead, a big Broadway musical with an all star cast, and having a Guy Pearce film released respectively all in the same month. Plus Cori having the short film she's in premiere at Sundance. Given the cast is what made the show work, glad they're reaping the benefits.

What he says about wanting each kiss to feel special/unique instead of repetitive, I think they've really nailed that. Anything that feels repetitive is more a cute quirk of the things they like about each other, like constantly playing with hair or biceps or ears.

The camera angles and the positioning is a thing for TV and Film. They probably had more freedom and play than they did for S1 but for sure they are telling them how to kiss.

I think if everything is not super choreographed, it's at least discussed so everything is within both of their boundaries. So random surprise moments neither expects, but done in a way that's natural. Anyway, if anyone touches an ass they had permission to touch it, etc.

And also it depends on the director. A show like Heartstopper that’s on Netflix will not have that much real improv. A director like Andrew Haigh (who directed the new film All of Us Strangers) is known for letting actors do their thing and capturing it. He will give some directions but he really likes spontaneous scenes.

All nitpicks and criticisms about Heartstopper's handling of sex aside, I am glad that they have an intimacy coordinator and that the cast feels safe. People can joke about Heartstopper not living up to the legacy of Skins and its sex scenes, but several actors (especially actresses) have come forward in recent years about not feeling safe or respected on that set or among that crew. And they were usually the same age as their characters, too, so 16 in some cases.
