Random so you can skip but I have rewatched Season 2 and it's honestly not as bad as I remember. It's better than Season 1. S1 was very surfaced-level. My problem with the show is that it looks like Alice has no idea what to do with Nick.

Nick has no storyline or characterization except for being the perfect boyfriend and his sexuality. He doesn't even have the latter because Alice doesn't tap into what it means for a rugby guy to be bi. She could have made him have anger problems like most teenage boys have. It would have worked with the fact that he lost all his friends at the end of S1 plus his homophobic brother pestering him. No normal 16-year-old would deal with that situation perfectly and with this much emotional maturity. Coming out is not a storyline. Everyone wants a Nick but no one wants to be Nick because he is nothing. He's void of any characteristics, interests, goals, passions, etc. He is just there to be the ideal boyfriend to Charlie. No wonder Kit has to invent things or look at other characters to play Nick because he has nothing to work with. I know some want Nick to only be the supportive boyfriend next season but that would honestly make the show worse.

They're all like that, not just Nick. Defined by one trait and just kind of there otherwise.

Charlie is the main character of the show. He's Alice's baby. The others are just background characters.

R137 Keeping in mind that Nick eventually becomes a primary school teacher, I think the show has done a lot to depict him as someone with great empathy and attentiveness. Not just towards Charlie, even though that's the central storyline.

I do wish they hadn't cut the pre-bonfire scene with David, and I do wish the show got to have more spotlight with his trio of rugby friends, like maybe coming along to Paris. But from what we do get of Nick's dad and brother, we can infer that David wanted to emulate and impress their dad more than Nick ever did. His dad bragging about rugby being a sport that gets you girls and girlfriends, and David having that typical laddish and mocking homophobia of an athlete.

For me, the whole point of Nick is that Charlie awakens him to act more like himself, but he was never as posturing as David or Harry to begin with. Before Charlie and before his bi awakening, he was more of a passive character suppressing his personality. For him, becoming angry and violent is to protect someone he loves and getting out of that passivity when his friends are being dicks. So I do see it as part of Nick's personality and arc that he gradually becomes such an actively supportive person, even if it can seem like the stuff of fairy tales sometimes. Alice is right to praise Kit and Joe for bringing a lot of emotional intelligence to their acting. It could have felt more one-note from another actor, but Kit brings a lot of depth and range to Nick. It probably helps that he's spoken of relating to archetypes and stereotypes creating certain expectations.

Regardless, Season 3 will definitely have the dual arc of him supporting Charlie while going through his own changes (university on the horizon) that aren't related to coming out. He also has his own insecurities during the sex arc. I know people clown the condoms and lube scene, but it was a genuine insecurity of his that he didn't know who to talk to outside of Charlie about sex.

It would have been funny - maybe one of them could have said they’ve been researching and they know which brand is the best, etc. Imo it would make more sense than him going with Tara and Elle (and ffs Imogen now).

That, and he almost texts one of his rugby friends (Sai?) during that sequence where he's thinking about texting multiple people about it but chickens out. The running gag is that pretty much everyone, including his rugby friends and later Elle, assumes they're already having sex because they're all over each 24/7. Which is how a lot of people felt about S2, funnily enough.

Forgot to mention that the show might add Nick and Tao talking about it, since they're giving them a friendship more than the comics did. I don't think they'd cut Charlie and Tao talking about it, either, so if it happened, it'd probably be Tao comically suffering having to hear it from both ends.

I mean nicks characterization sucks but acting like Charlie is Alice’s baby and she develops him most is crazy. She literally gave Joe all of one scene showing Charlie’s interior life last season. Pure show viewers come away thinking Charlie is past his anorexia and self harm. He had 14 min less screentime than nick. His primary role was supportive bf. There’s a reason reviews said this was a nick focused season.

I did mean the comment as them being the central characters and the most interesting so I like seeing what J&K do in the background… But the discussion is good too

Cast in HS in late February 2021, started filming in March, ended in June, went into studying for A levels right away, balanced taking A levels (where he landed an A and 2 Bs) with auditioning for The Trials, press for S1, and attending events, then auditioning for Marvel literally in the lead up to the Trials, then straight into s2 filming; followed by the last day of filming > Brasil > LA for Agatha > Emmys> Atlanta for 6 months after maybe 2.5 weeks off. If the strike hadn't cancelled press for HS S2, he wouldn't have even had the break this summer, before filming started back in September, now straight into Broadway in January. fucking BATSHIT.

R547 The timelines in the books and series are not quite the same. The family dinner is at the end of Vol 4 but in S2. I expect S3 will cover the remaining parts of Vol 4 and Vol 5. That is less than S1 and marginaly more than S2 which had a lot of extra stuff not in the books. S3 will wrap the main HS story line of being a couple and ED. An S4 will require a new storyline and I doubt very much that Alice can develop that in time for a late 2024 shoot. The novella can potentially be a storyline in an episode but nor a series. Netflix could call in other writes but my expectation is that S3 will be the final series.

If he reposts/comments, he's attention-whoring. If he doesn't, he's not as supportive as he should be. And the level of scrutiny isn't the same for the others. I haven't seen anyone mention that Will hasn't liked or commented on the casting or that Yaz liked but didn't comment in the way I've seen the commentary about Kit.

R591 ngl for me Yaz liking at all was the surprise. I think (putting the lexxies aside) people are surprised re Kit because he generally comments on any of joes posts, let alone things this big. But again, anyone actually reading levels of friendship or pride into it rather than just mild surprise are insane

I agree with the theory Kit is giving Joe’s post space. I’m not sure why he didn’t like yesterday’s post (maybe he liked the one that was up for 30sec) or maybe he just wasn’t online for any number of reasons but I think not commenting today is deliberate. It’s like the way he doesn’t comment on Will’s posts anymore. His comments get more traction with the fans than the posts themselves.

I could definitely be wrong because I haven’t been on Instagram for too long today, but it looks like Kit went on his (main) Instagram to like Joe’s announcement and then disappeared again? Haven’t seen any other likes from him.

I think we’re honestly reading just as much into it by saying it’s because Kit is trying to make joe the main character and not distract as the people saying they’re more distant or whatever. Could be for any reason, most of which are probably just nothing at all, like him not even thinking about it

R595 Because of the speed of the like I think it makes sense that he was with Joe when he posted, liked the post as soon as it was up, and retreated to his finsta or got off the app right after. He was also pretty slow in posting about the Fashion Awards, he was the last one of the lot to post. That resolution of his to be on his phone less might've worked out for him.

If he shares it as a story the twitter tl and insta fill up with that and it becomes about how supportive he is. They both know that
