Will we ever see it on the shelves again?
The Kroger store brand, Roland (Target version) and Cha (Texas Pete version) just don't match the greatness and flavor of Huy Fong.

Sambal oelek chili paste is better.

No, never.

I was born in 1969 which is the year of the cock.
I made good on that.

Since you’re such a connoisseur of Asian condiments OP, why don’t you go to an Asian grocery where there are a whole range of chili sauces for you to try.

We have it where I live

It's ubiquitous in SoCal.
Nobody calls it "cock" sauce – it's sriracha or rooster sauce.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 21, 2023 12:52 AM |
It only becomes cock sauce when used as lube.

I like Crying Thaiger

I'm soaking in it in my bathtub.
No shartages here!

Is this shortage more afire than that of Adderal?

Trader Joe's house brand sriracha is affordable and just fine.

[quote] Sambal oelek chili paste is better.
It's good, but it's a different kind of hot sauce.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 21, 2023 2:14 AM |
Why did it disappear?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 21, 2023 3:58 PM |
I am glad I am not the only one who cannot find this on the store shelves anymore. Store brand is not the same. They also don't have their Sriracha salsa anymore. Where the fuck did it all go?

IIRC, for many years, Huy Fong (located in suburban LA) sourced its peppers from one farmer in Ventura Co. A few years ago, Huy Fong sued the farmer over an alleged overpayment. Huy Fong got back the $1-2M that it said it overpaid, but the farmer won 10x that amount in a jury trial. That ended their supplier relationship.
Since then Huy Fong has sourced peppers from other farmers in California and elsewhere and the supply is unreliable. So there is a shortage of the OG sriracha sauce.
I remember thinking at the time of the lawsuit, what a stupid way to resolve a business dispute. Negotiate with each other, show the receipts and contracts, and agree on a plan to get over it. Instead, Huy Fong sued. *shrug*

Luckily, right before I learned of the shortage I bought some in a mega Korean market.
Tonight I got takeout phô and I tasted the type they sent. It was all heat and no finesse.

I still have about half of a big bottle in my fridge.
It’s delicious.

Because it's a completely different condiment, R19.

This is currently my favorite Asian chili sauce (Lao Gan Ma). It has nice crunch and texture.

R22, I love Laoganma spicy chili crisp. For those interested, be careful, there are actually several different products that they make. The one we're talking about is "spicy chili crisp." That said, it's not really comparable to sriracha sauce. It's a different hot sauce / different condiment.
On America's Test Kitchen, they said they liked Kikkoman brand sriracha sauce. However, I'd take ATK reviews on certain things, like an Asian hot sauce, with a huge grain of salt.

I am frankly getting annoyed at this point by the lack of availability. My dad kept a bottle of this stuff in our house my entire life, so I grew up putting it on all kinds of stuff and still love it. I bought a few bottles at a Safeway when there was the initial news of a shortage, but I'm down to my last one and they still can't seem to produce it. If you read the ingredients lists, a lot of the other knockoff versions use other peppers aside from chiles (or in combination with chiles). The flavor is just not the same. I came across one knockoff version in a Walmart (can't remember the name) that appeared to only use chiles—I didn't buy it, but I am getting desperate and may go back there this weekend to get a bottle of it.
