In response to the comments in the previous thread about Alice constantly releasing new covers of her books to resell the same books to the same audiences, I don’t actually think that’s what is happening. The new UK covers with exclusive new content in each one that Alice just announced on her sm is essentially a way to make her backlist seem like a new release. Very very few people who already own her books will buy these. But bookstores can now feature these books in their new releases section. This is definitely something Alice’s publisher is doing and book sellers are loving. Because far more people have watched Heartstopper than read any of their novels. Books get new movie tie in covers all the time. Using a films success to sell books is part of the publishing industry and has nothing to do with Alice’s ego.

Caveat, I don’t like Alice for many reasons. This just isn’t one of them.

I fully agree that Prosper is a subpar PR firm. And as a big Joe fan, I definitely wish Joe was doing more interviews/photoshoots. I just still have a hard time believing that Joe wants better PR. In the few interviews we've recently gotten from him, he's said that he's trying to learn how to say no to things, he feels very overwhelmed by fame, and he frequently thinks about quitting. I've never ever gotten the impression that "being famous" is Joe's goal.

There are tons of actors at all levels of fame (including the very top) who don't have any form of social media. There are actors who frequently refuse to do interviews or are extremely selective about what interviews they will and wont do. Actors are almost never paid for interviews or photoshoots, they do them either to help promote the project they're working on or to build their audience in a hope of booking future projects. Joe is extremely booked and busy. He doesn't need any help booking future projects. And he has no incentive to do additional PR for HS beyond what Netflix has contractually arranged for him. I love Joe and do really wish he had better PR for my own personal reasons. But the fact Joe is just working as an actor non-stop and not doing anything to promote himself actually makes me love him way more.

And back to Wiccan, MCU much have a lot of confidence in Joe/Wiccan considering they want to move away from D+ shows and just cancelled the Nova series.

Joe/Wiccan makes a lot of sense to carry a series. Young so can draw in a younger audience, but has the Wanda and Agatha connections, and wandavision is considered the best marvel show, and overall one of their best projects. But also makes me think they’re going to pivot to make him the main or one of the main young avengers. Of course it’s technically an ensemble, like the actual avengers, but in the group films there’s generally “leads” (Cap and Iron Man). Guessing Wiccan and Kate Bishop will be the leads.

Before anyone gets too excited, Production Weekly is a bit like Deux Moi where people can submit things. They're not getting this information from the studios, they're getting it from the leakers, which is why it only showed up this week after they started talking about it on Twitter. There's no official movement from the studios because of the strikes right now.

Agreed, but I'm genuinely confused about how the strikes impact British productions. Obviously Netflix is an American company that operates under American rules, but in the UK it is literally ILLEGAL for actors to go on strike (for British-specific productions). So, how the fuck does it all work? I remember reading something about George R.R. Martin being on the defensive (back when it was just a WGA strike) about S2 of "House of the Dragon" having fully completed scripts prior to filming, but what about actors?

Do even British actors get a "pass" if they have a SAG card? Obviously Joe just did a Marvel show, and Olivia Colman is clearly a major name stateside, but is S3 of "Heartstopper" on indefinite hiatus, despite being filmed in the UK with an entirely British cast & crew? It sucks bad enough that so many thousands of people have gone 4+ months without work, but delays like this one can quite seriously impact a young performer's career.

While this is massively fucked up, it is quite literally illegal in the UK for actors to engage in "sympathy strikes" with non-British unions. Most of the cast signed contracts for s2 and s3 at the same time. Yaz had already filmed for Dr Who at the time people were signing contracts. I wonder if Yaz believed she was going to become such a huge star she wouldn’t need Heartstopper anymore, so she only signed to do s2. The way s2 was written, it would be easy to write Elle off the show if Yaz doesn’t want to come back for s3. But if she signed on for s3 at any point in the past year, she can easily be included moving forward.
