Ben disappearing and then randomly coming back would have been awkward, Nick struggling with coming out to his family across two seasons would have been awkward.

Honestly my take on the Ben send off (both the article and the actual writing off, coupled with the fact that Netflix has been hyping him a lot despite him literally leaving after this season) is that one of the “big things” he threatened us with in his career is another Netflix project, so they’re trying to get the HS Fanbase to follow him over to that next thing

In the season premiere, Nick and Charlie can be seen spending a lot of time together after school and making out in each other’s rooms — so much so that Charlie’s grades begin to slip. Connor and Locke, who have struck up a genuine friendship between seasons and developed an evident ability to banter and improvise with one another, worked closely with Walters, director Euros Lyn and intimacy coordinator David Thackeray to make each intimate moment between Nick and Charlie feel different this season.

“The intimacy is deepening and getting more familiar, but also more exciting,” Walters said.

In the premiere's opening montage, for instance, “Kit and Joe are so ready to play with one another onscreen, and there’s a real sense of mischief — Joe ruffles Kit’s hair, they push each other off a beanbag, they’re playing Mario Kart,” Lyn said, revealing that the actors filmed different moments of that extended sequence throughout the monthslong shoot last year. “There’s lots of opportunities for the two of them to be playful with one another because Nick and Charlie are really brilliant friends as well as lovers, and I think we wanted their evolving, intimate contact to come through.”

Lyn singled out a scene in the sixth episode, in which the characters are running through the corridors of a hotel during a school trip to Paris, as an example of just how comfortable Nick and Charlie have grown together.

“They arrive at the vending machine, and we just hold the shot for ages. You get a sense that they want to kiss, but Charlie wants to talk about what Nick’s just been through, and Nick wants to talk about what Charlie’s just been through,” said Lyn, who also serves as an executive producer. “You get a sense of this physical yearning between the two of them, but also this intellectual and spiritual attraction where they both care for each other so deeply playing alongside that.”

There are some occasions where I have enough lead time on assignment to really dive into the research.

On this one, to photograph @joelocke03 and @kit.connor from Netflix’s hit show @heartstopper I had just enough time to watch. And wow, these young men, both 19, capture the raw essence of adolescence and the vulnerability that comes with self-discovery and young love. Their performances are tender and sincere. In person, they were equally as authentic. Their personal connection is clearly profound — how could it not be after such a shared experience.

All this to say, I believe these young men have very bright futures and am grateful for their willingness to let me into their friendship for just a afternoon. I also hope they know how special this show is for everyone who is searching for themselves but particularly for the LGTBQIA+ youth.

Sorry to be bitter on the thread, but it’s sad to think that despite knocking it out of the park this season, it’s pretty likely joe won’t receive awards or real recognition for it. Frankly, even as a joe Stan, I was extremely surprised by how prominent Charlie was and how amazingly joe acted from the critics reports, which overall were “Kit was INCREDIBLE and joe had good chemistry with him”. Kit was absolutely amazing, and I get the narrative sense of wrapping up nicks storyline here, but I have the sinking feeling that this will again be a season where Kit gets all the kudos and the narrative will be so entrenched that by s3 he’ll pick up all the awards yet again for “supportive sad boyfriend” while sidelining joe.

I think (with my story consultant Lauren and the wonderful Patrick Walters) we decided quite early on to move that particular scene to the end of the season. In the comics it actually comes before the Paris trip! But it felt like it would benefit so much more from us seeing a whole eight episodes of Charlie growing closer with Nick, Nick learning more about Charlie, and Charlie reaching the point where he's able to lower his guard and truly share how he feels. It also really nicely sets up the themes and topics that will be the driving force of season 3!

Honestly not really! There were a few songs and artists that we really hoped we'd get in there - we wanted more Orla Gartland and Baby Queen, we wanted a Wasia Project song and a Taylor Swift song somewhere. We hoped to get some Harry Styles and Lorde (The Louvre!) in there but unfortunately couldn't get the rights to use them, though we tried very hard! But no specific scenes in mind! I think I learnt with the last season that it's really impossible to plan tracks in advance, because it depends so heavily on how the scene cuts together in the edit

Eh I am so cynical at this point. Critics act like joes only strength as an actor is chemistry with Kit and like Kit and Olivia carry the show. S3 he’ll get the attention and Emmy again because he shows the difficulty of the caretaker burden or something. It’s unfair, not because Kit isn’t amazing — he is exceptional. but because Joe is exceptionally under appreciated, but I’m very used to it. More than anything else, I think it’s nuts we had several solo nick scenes this season where Kit got to emote and look worried about Charlie and show his strength and joe didn’t have equivalent ones. Then the final scene, Kit absolutely killed, no questions there — but it was literally written to be sweet sensitive shocked nick and stoic hiding it Charlie. The former is one thousand times more likely to give the big moments that will get awarded. Have a feeling we’ll see the show end as Kit three time Emmy winner and joe zero, even if joe gave the performance of a lifetime in s3. To say nothing of the fans, who will always be more into Kit.

They're both pretty humble, appreciative of what the show has done for them overall, and the seasons are pretty quick shoots so they have time to do other things the rest of the year. A lot of the series regulars that get tired and want to move on are driven by the fact that they don't have time to do anything else but that show.

I don't see Joe getting sick of it, hes so new to this world I think he would be all in (Unless the Marvel experience was mind blowing). I could see Kit getting a bit bored, but that's just because he's done more.

With marvel happening and kit likely booking more things I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to end the show after three seasons. And realistically, alice doesn’t REALLY need four. They’ve both been more than gracious about the show in interviews and sound actually excite about it. I think they’re extremely grateful it launched them but also, Alice and Netflix aside, they seem to genuinely adore the rest of the cast. Unless it would seriously fuck with the ability to do something else (and lbr it won’t, the show films for 2 months and they’ll work with joe and kits schedules), I think they’d do an s4 to finish out the arc and not screw over their cast mates. I think if it was a more open ended show, like a riverdale that could potentially have 8 seasons, they might be hesitant. But knowing it’ll end at s4, I think they’ll agree to sign on to finish it out

the only reason why i would want a season 4 would be so that alice can properly deal with Charlie’s storyline. Like if it was down to just one more season, you would have the hospitalization, geoff and charlies therapy, relapses and if she had to fit that all and her other side plots in to one final season, i fell like they would just cut Charlie’s storyline to make it fit. I know they said its important but i don't necessarily trust that they wouldn’t.

Finally got to watch the season. I thought it was overall very good. My main take always were that 1. Kit and Joe were incredible and sell being in love so fucking well. So much so that I actually thought their weakest scene was the “I am not ready for sex” scene. They sell wanting to be with and around each other so well that them not wanting anything more than kissing seemed very unlikely. 2. I thought Joe and Kit acted wonderfully however, the whole coming out storyline got a little old. I think they could have speed that up a little and dived into Charlie’s ED or self harm more. This isn’t Joe or Kit’s fault rather a writing issue. 3. I thought the Issac, teachers and Imogen storyline were useless and brought nothing to the show and I would have happily taken another 5 minutes of make out sessions over any of their storylines.
