Datalounge is always first with the death news. How is that?

by Anonymousreply 3July 26, 2023 5:45 PM

OMG what?!?! Wow.

by Anonymousreply 4July 26, 2023 5:45 PM

Oh...my mouth just dropped open reading that. I guess it's not a shock...but still, it's surprising.

by Anonymousreply 5July 26, 2023 5:45 PM

Oh no. Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 6July 26, 2023 5:45 PM

Unexpected

by Anonymousreply 7July 26, 2023 5:45 PM

What the hell, I just created the thread about her singing the Outlander theme song hours ago.

She really has lived a terrible life, and her son took his own life not that long ago as well.

by Anonymousreply 8July 26, 2023 5:46 PM

So sad

by Anonymousreply 9July 26, 2023 5:46 PM

I'm surprised so many people are surprised. She's been on self-destruct for years.

by Anonymousreply 23July 26, 2023 5:51 PM

Suicide?

by Anonymousreply 24July 26, 2023 5:51 PM

R3 didn’t you know. Many elder gays snoop the internet for death news just like how old people used to search for obituaries in the newspaper.

by Anonymousreply 25July 26, 2023 5:52 PM

So sad. Her music meant a lot to me as a kid and I always wished she could find some peace and I sort of felt an affinity knowing she and I probably experienced a lot of similar struggles. I hope ed there is a peace and reckoning for her wherever she is.

by Anonymousreply 26July 26, 2023 5:52 PM

R22 That’s not even funny you POS.

by Anonymousreply 27July 26, 2023 5:52 PM

I'm heartbroken. I loved her music, and felt protective of her broken soul.

by Anonymousreply 28July 26, 2023 5:52 PM

NO! Is it really true? But of course, it has to be.

The Irish have higher rates of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia

by Anonymousreply 29July 26, 2023 5:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 30July 26, 2023 5:53 PM

Damm, they're dropping like flies. I'm 43, my parents are dead, grandparents are dead, my artists, the planet. Sinead was so right about that Catholic pedo shit. Ballsy woman. Pobrecita.

by Anonymousreply 31July 26, 2023 5:53 PM

She converted to Islam so you know that wasn’t going to end well.

by Anonymousreply 32July 26, 2023 5:54 PM

Heartbreaking, I’ve always had a real soft spot for her, even though she acted like a fool some times.

by Anonymousreply 33July 26, 2023 5:54 PM

R29 Really. I never knew that. Makes sense. One hurt me very badly.

by Anonymousreply 34July 26, 2023 5:55 PM

R32 oh yeah. I forgot she had made that move. She likely was BPD.

by Anonymousreply 35July 26, 2023 5:56 PM

Damn

by Anonymousreply 36July 26, 2023 5:56 PM

Weird I was just listening to a local college radio station this morning and they we're playing Sinead's, "Emperor's New Clothes" and I was thinking, god she had such a fantastic voice.

That woman was in such endless pain it seemed. Good luck on the next plane.

by Anonymousreply 37July 26, 2023 5:57 PM

She wrong-footed SNL by holding up a photo of a refugee child in rehearsals for "War". They had no idea what she was going to do on the night.

by Anonymousreply 48July 26, 2023 6:03 PM

I heard Nothing Compares 2 U on the radio about fifteen minutes ago here in Ireland. I guess that was why!

by Anonymousreply 49July 26, 2023 6:03 PM

R3 Corpse sits up in her casket whenever a female artist passes. She’s always on death watch so she can get a sliver of publicity by lying and saying how she was great friends with the deceased.

by Anonymousreply 50July 26, 2023 6:04 PM

Who would have thought Shane MacGowan would outlive her?

by Anonymousreply 51July 26, 2023 6:04 PM

I became a big fan of hers in Early 1988 when I first heard "Mandinka" at an Alternative record store in Austin.

I always loved her music, and was especially happy to hear "Mandinka" playing on the Gap October 1992 in-store playlist on my first day with Gap at Highland Park Village in Dallas on 10/17/1992.

Nice memories of her music over the decades.

It's actually a testament to modern psychiatry that someone as mentally ill as her can live as long as she did. Of course, the bad-faith actors will ascribe it to Islam.

by Anonymousreply 55July 26, 2023 6:06 PM

She lived longer than Dolores O'Riordan. And yes, it's wild than Shane McGowan still lives. I suppose his organs are pickled.

by Anonymousreply 57July 26, 2023 6:07 PM

I remember being told (incorrectly) that Sinead was Gaelic for skinhead when she initially broke through. Her look reminded me of the actress from the silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc. I sure hope we learn in coming days that she was a sunnier soul than her press releases.

by Anonymousreply 58July 26, 2023 6:07 PM

She will always be a legend for ripping up that photo on live TV.

There was a brief and bizarre little interlude where she wanted to be known as "Magda Davitt", shortly before converting to Islam and changing it again. She was trying to rid herself of her "slave name", apparently. She went back to Sinéad O'Connor as soon as she started touring again, of course.

by Anonymousreply 67July 26, 2023 6:14 PM

"Am I Not Your Girl?" I listened to many times during a better time of my life.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's some type of a cardiac event/heart failure. People who are bipolar tend to die younger and, IIRC, heart issues are problematic. She's also full on menopausal if not on HRT. A lot of cortisol and adrenaline in the system and resulting anxiety, palpitations, etc

by Anonymousreply 131July 26, 2023 7:27 PM

She was hospitalized in January 2022 after making suicidal threats. This was just after her 17-year-old son Shane's suicide.

She tweeted:

[quote]I’ve decided to follow my son. There is no point living without him. Everything I touch, I ruin. I only stayed for him. And now he’s gone.

and then, an hour later:

[quote]I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I am with cops now on way to hospital. I’m sorry I upset everyone. I am lost without my kid and I hate myself. Hospital will help a while. But I’m going to find Shane. This is just a delay.

This is really heartbreaking.

I was so sad to see this news but had mixed emotions as only days ago a post about Sinead had mostly comments saying she'd be dead soon. 😔 I try to explain Datalounge to my bf, but mostly he thinks it just sounds like a mean place. I personally met Sinead a dozen times over the years...my best friend in my gay youth dated her brother for 3 years...She was just very very very shy. (My dad once told me, in a very very rare moment, that he became an alcoholic because he was thrown out into the working world at 13 and was incredibly shy...so he found that alcohol cud get him functioning somewhat.) Anyways, a huge talent, a huge loss and another sad showbiz story. May she find peace. Respect. X

by Anonymousreply 198July 26, 2023 9:38 PM

I’ve already posted, but I’m posting again. This woman was fearless and beautiful and talented.

I always have respect for those who are willing to publicly challenge “The Church.” It takes bravery to willingly take on all the opprobrium of the millions of deluded Papists. One of her later criticisms of the Church, that it is “drowning in a sea of conditional love,” is one of the better metaphors I’ve heard of their iniquity and hypocrisy. They abused her terribly, and she wouldn’t forgive or forget, and it maybe killed her but also made her heroic.

Apparently all of her last social media posts were about the overwhelming grief of being the mother of a child who died by suicide. It’s heartbreaking that she died in such pain.

As an aside, she was mentioning Buddhism quite a bit in her final social media posts, so perhaps she switched faiths again towards the end?

Unfortunate brown is such a weird term. What a weirdo she was. And always so keen to be seen as controversial. What the hell was tearing up a picture of the pope on some moribund comedy show going to do? Highly performative.

I liked some of her music, and I’m certainly not glad she’s dead, but it’s already exhausting, the beatification of her. I’ve been on Instagram about twelve years. I’ve been following several people since that first year. These people are going on and on about how amazing and transformative Sinead was, but they never posted anything about her in the preceding 12 years.

by Anonymousreply 223July 26, 2023 11:08 PM

Who is going to raise all her children, now that she's gone?

by Anonymousreply 224July 26, 2023 11:19 PM

R223, she took a lot of heat for ripping up the picture of the Pope. She was doing it to protest the church covering up child abuse. Which she was correct about (this was before that issue received a ton of media coverage)

potato famine?

by Anonymousreply 226July 26, 2023 11:28 PM

Not that I'm condoning the backlash she got, but people loved that pope and took it more as an attack on him than the Catholic Church. I think thats why it got such backlash.

I think people would have the same reaction if someone did that to Pope Francis now.

by Anonymousreply 227July 26, 2023 11:31 PM

She played the Virgin Mother in "The Butcher Boy" and was perfection. The ethereality, her looks, her voice - you'd have never thought she had any issue with the Catholic Church.

The Documentary Nothing Compares is about her early career. She is sharp as a tack and incredibly articulate with all the asinine press and personalities who come off fake as shit and stupid. She was a true artist, activist artist in a throw back to the 60s. A wonderful singer who communicated very directly. Then she lost the battle with mental illness. BUT. Even OLD burnt out Sinead, narrating the documentary in a voice you can barely recognize. She is 100% cogent and very intelligence. Not deluded. Not dramatic. Just plain speaking and sharp. This after everything. After all the addictions and madness and the hotel hobo - all that. She just talks and she is 100% not insane in any intellectually way. It must all have been emotional madness.

She had borderline personality disorder. Triggered by a terribly abusive childhood. It was evident throughout her life — and also in her art. The intense emotions and impulsivity. Terrible illness but she was able to channel her strong feelings into some of the most deeply moving pop songs. Her “ripping up the picture of the Pope” stunt on SNL was truly one of the most shocking moments in modern day pop culture. now , of course, strippers perform on SNL and rappers pretend to have sex with the Devil so none of this is shocking. But I clearly remember when Sinead O’Connor pulled that stunt — I wasn’t even raised Catholic and it was just such a shock, so taboo, so threatening and terrifying to people. I mean Marilyn Manson was never ever ever able to achieve that level of horror for middle class America, and believe me he tried.

What a terrible sad story. her son’s death was just too much for her and with her borderline personality she just couldn’t handle the emotions. I can’t remember the stats but the risk of suicide among borderlines is HUGE. From all the unusual behavior we saw from Sinead over the years, she was clearly seeking help for her illness but she just could never get to a stable place. RIP

by Anonymousreply 254July 27, 2023 1:37 AM

Would someone remind me of what was the beef between her and Prince?

Years ago, I read it here at the good old DL that they had a falling-out, but I can't remember what it was about.

I do know that Prince, as talented as he was, and there is no denying that, could be a snarky bitch when it came to other artists. I got the feeling he resented her success with Nothing Compares 2 U.

Even Madonna piled on Sinead over ripping up the Pope's picture which only served to reveal Madonna as incapable of acknowledging and respecting an act that actually took real balls to do.

I respected O'Connor doing that right off the bat, not the least reason being the question of, when, on hyper controlled TV, even when it's so-called "live", did anybody do something so outrageous?

Again, Respect, Ms. O'Connor, and, even though I don't believe in an afterlife, if you did, may the Creator welcome you to a place where you can see your son again.

Hi, R275.

Sinead was a beautiful woman.

Abuse tends to be cyclical.

No bullshit to peddle.

by Anonymousreply 276July 27, 2023 6:51 AM

R274 Do you mean the mom literally saw herself in Sinead, and projected her shame and self-loathing onto her own daughter? I don’t know about that, but the resemblance is troubling. It must have been a mind-fuck for Sinead to look in the mirror and see the face of her abuser staring back at her.

by Anonymousreply 284July 27, 2023 7:22 AM

R274 / R276 Ah — okay. That makes sense. If the mom was sexually abused as a child for being a “pretty girl,” that in part might explain the bizarre torture of her daughter that included cutting her hair short, dressing her like a boy (because she “wanted a son instead”), and trying to destroy her reproductive organs. A few years back, Sinead had a mental breakdown after getting a hysterectomy because — as she explained later — it triggered memories of the torturous abuse she suffered as a child.

by Anonymousreply 285July 27, 2023 7:28 AM

R285, I suspect this was the case - that women in her maternal line were targeted. That's what happened in my family.

God love you Datalounge, every once in a while you are unanimous in your praise. And Sinead O'conor deserves that. A great artist. A great activist. She was one hundred percent correct abut the abuse of the Catholic Church. A very troubled woman who fought the good fight.

Many aren’t familiar with her music beyond Nothing Compares 2 U, nor are they familiar with her history or her activism.

Sinead had challenges. She suffered from HORRIFIC abuse as a child, & survived the Magdalene Laundries, where she was placed, due to having a horribly abusive mother.

Even after all she went through, she sang like an angel on a rocket ship heading straight to the moon.

Many of you hear a young & some of you are simply not curious. That said, it’s important to understand people comprehensively. It’s important to know their stories & attempt to see where others are coming from.

Sinead wasn’t just a woman who struggled with mental health & trauma. She was a warrior, & she wasn’t afraid to be honest.

She was fearless, yet terrified. She was brave, yet vulnerable, & she is now gone, & it matters because she offered so, so much, even when so much was taken from her.

I’m obviously broken up about this one. This lady was exceptionally special & she is truly missed.

I don't believe the article at R257, that's some BS about her saying Prince was an abuser because he hit her with a fucking pillow. Wow lady, delusional as usual. I'm not saying Prince was perfect as I do think he had a history of trying to control women / his proteges. But that's pretty funny, she probably outweighed him when he was 5'2" and could probably outpunch him.

I think she was a talented singer but let's face it, she was batshit crazy and went through religions like she changed her clothes. That was her prerogative but making her some saint now is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 343July 28, 2023 2:21 AM

R341 yes in June 1993, in the days before Twitter, Joseph O'Connor and Sinéad engaged in a bizarre series of letters written to the Irish Times to air the dirty laundry of how abusive their parents were or were not as the case may be depending on which side you believed. Joseph O'Connor is a fantastic writer and a brilliant wit, his series of 'An Irish Male...' books are hilarious. She must have been incredibly difficult to have as a sibling but through it all she was beloved, because how could you not love her. Her dad was a barrister and is still alive and living in Dublin City. This must be devastating for him.

by Anonymousreply 344July 28, 2023 2:30 AM

Her son that took his own life was in the care of the Irish State, with Sinéad in a legal battle to try and gain custody of him. He had attempted suicide twice before and was being kept on a ward in a hospital in Dublin. Through the hospital's negligence he managed to leave and was 'missing' for several days before he was found dead. Sinéad was ferociously angry at the hospital, the health service and the child protective services agency in Ireland and was threatening to sue them all in bizarre 3am grief-stricken rants on Twitter. It completely broke her. And no doubt contributed to her own demise. And to think if some nurse or orderly had been a bit more astute, Shane Lunny might still be alive and so might Sinéad. Terribly sad how tragedy can hinge on the most minor of events.

[quote]In the future, do you think you will act on your suicidal ideations?

Who can say r349? I certainly have no intention to, but I fear losing all hope in a single moment. It scares me, because I genuinely love being alive (and I also have a fear of death). Psychologist Thomas Joiner has an interesting theory of suicide; I recommend his books Myths About Suicide and Why People Die By Suicide.

I just posted this on another thread:

I've never found anything other than illicit drugs that gives me motivation when depressed. Food offers a very brief respite. I've been on a wide swathe of psychotropics from the time I was in my early 20s. None of them helped in any meaningful way. I've been through a number of psychologists and counselors. Only one truly helped. I'm just as depressed during the periods when I work out religiously than the periods I don't.

I quit drinking and using drugs about ten years ago, because I know those things were making me more depressed in the end.

I was born depressed and, all else being equal, I will die depressed. It's genetic, and it goes back generations.

R358 Amanda Palmer appears to suggest that Annie helped Sinead at some point.

I'm sure many did.

by Anonymousreply 360July 28, 2023 4:22 AM

r356 It starts with the premise that suicide is extraordinarily difficult. It's difficult to go against our deeply ingrained instinct for survival, and it's difficult to enact lethal harm on oneself. So, in in order to commit suicide, one must overcome the terrific fear of and aversion to death that we all inherently possess. He argues that people can conquer this fear, as it were, through a habituation to pain, which can happen in any number of ways. This is why, for example, athletes, anorexics, military veterans, and victims of physical abuse all have higher rates of suicide, as do people with tattoos.

Of course, that is not enough. One must also desire death. This desire stems from "thwarted belongingness," the lack of close interpersonal relationships and connections to a community. This is why, he theorizes, people who attend weekly church services have a lower risk of suicide, as do women with many children. They feel connected to others. Loneliness, and a lack of connections, leads to suicidal ideation in some people. He says something like -- paraphrasing -- to say people who commit suicide feel lonely at the time of their deaths is a great understatement.

Not all people who acquire the capacity to overcome their fear of death desire suicide; and not all people who desire suicide overcome their fear of death. A successful suicide generally means that these two factors have coincided in a single individual.

by Anonymousreply 375July 28, 2023 12:22 PM

[quote] [R321], she wasn't that interesting or worth the angst or curiosity. She was just another fucked up Borderline her whole life.

You do know that having any kind of mental health illness is not a choice? So what if Sinéad or anybody else has BDP, does that mean we are not allowed to feel compassion for these people? Did you ever stop to even consider what it must have been like for Sinéad to live with this for decades?

And you of all people say she was fucked up. At her worst she didn’t come close to being the complete and utter cunt that you are. For the rest of us, we can only imagine what it must be like to live in your shoes, a nasty, vile, bitter and twisted piece of nothing. by Anonymousreply 376July 28, 2023 12:23 PM

R306, excellent. From one talent performer to another!

by Anonymousreply 378July 28, 2023 12:32 PM

When I first heard the news of her death I assumed it was suicide, given her well-documented mental health issues and history of previous suicide attempts.

But now I'm not so sure. All the authorities are saying is that she was found dead in a private home, that her death is "not suspicious" (i.e. not murder) and that an autopsy will be conducted, with results that may not be available for "several weeks.",

If there was a suicide note or other clear indication that it was suicide, I think they would have mentioned that. But though I'm not ruling out suicide, I think it might also be an accidental drug overdose, or perhaps due to natural causes like a heart attack.

As always, Susan Dey is silent.

by Anonymousreply 382July 28, 2023 1:54 PM

I think it would be a deep shock and surprise if her death was NOT suicide.

The bigger shock is that she had the ability to live and survive as long as she did. She was deeply damaged by the abuse she suffered, and then she went through a public judgment at a level that most human beings never have to endure.

She clearly suffered from bipolar disorder or emotional extremes based on the trauma she endured, and sadly, if her own son was grasping for his own mental health and/or in care at the end of his life, then the ghosts of the parent's trauma being passed down sadly continued another generation.

by Anonymousreply 383July 28, 2023 1:59 PM

[quote]Kris Kristofferson was truly kind to her when the audience turned on her and she ad-libbed a shouting version of "War" ... I've always had a soft spot for Kris (and his lyrics).

I remember that moment as well, at the Dylan tribute concert at MSG, and also hold him in esteem. He is one of the great remaining American singer-songwriter-artists of his generation, and hasn't had nearly the acclaim he should have received. Lacking a Kennedy Center Honor, for one, and not likely at this point to receive it - I believe he's suffering from dementia and other health issues.

by Anonymousreply 384July 28, 2023 2:51 PM

I don't know about the suicide angle. She was found "unresponsive" at home and not revived, which implies to me that she was found deceased there. It could be natural causes or even an accidental overdose; I would think if she took her own life she would have left a note or missive or some kind.

She was devastated by her son's recent death but people forget she had a younger son who is still a teen, living in Ireland possibly with his father, whom Sinead remarked that she had good relations. Wouldn't she want to stay alive for his sake? She was also a grandmother via her older children.

by Anonymousreply 385July 28, 2023 2:54 PM

For what it's worth, notes are left in only a minority of successful suicides.

by Anonymousreply 386July 28, 2023 2:58 PM

I'm aware of that r386, but Sinead was highly creative and (allegedly) very sensitive, one would think she'd leave behind some kind of explanation re her actions. Especially to her remaining children.

Or if no note, there would have been some kind of communication or correspondence with family or friends foreshadowing what she was planning. Her London neighbors have told the UK tabloids she was chatty, upbeat and friendly in the days before her death. Of course, people who plan suicide do often appear this way beforehand.

by Anonymousreply 387July 28, 2023 3:02 PM

[quote] She was devastated by her son's recent death but people forget she had a younger son who is still a teen

I think you have the ages of her children confused. The son that died was her youngest and was 17 when he died last year. All her other children are older.

by Anonymousreply 388July 28, 2023 3:05 PM

Sarah Kane didn't appear to leave a note, r387, and she was also highly creative. As I wrote in r361, most suicidal people feel almost indescribable alienation. Leaving a note -- trying to explain an act that society deems so inexplicable -- may seem absurd to them.

by Anonymousreply 389July 28, 2023 3:06 PM

[quote] Her London neighbors have told the UK tabloids she was chatty, upbeat and friendly in the days before her death. Of course, people who plan suicide do often appear this way beforehand.

These people can experience those last days as a very liberating time, because the strain and conflict of the decision has passed. They're closer to being at peace.

It’s mostly men who leave suicide notes. Men tend to plan it, get their affairs in order, leave a note, and commit suicide in a way that won’t fail eg hanging, throwing themselves in front of a train, blow their brains out, lock themselves in the car with the hose connected.

With women it tends to be more spur of the moment and a cry for help, eg taking an overdose. Also when someone commits suicide there is very often a history of suicide in the family. I studied suicide at university as part of my degree.

by Anonymousreply 398July 28, 2023 6:14 PM

I have to say I actually would be VERY surprised if she died from "natural" causes and NOT suicide/overdose. She was a pretty tortured soul, more so after her son died.

by Anonymousreply 399July 28, 2023 6:27 PM

I recalled that Sinéad actually started the beef with Miley Cyrus. Sinead said:

[quote] "I've never said that women shouldn't dress like women; what I've said is that you don't have to be naked on a wrecking ball and licking a sledgehammer," she told me at the time. "You can be very, very sexy without actually taking any of your clothes off or twerking.

Miley said:

[quote] "I think she's an incredible artist, I think she's an awesome songwriter, and I was really inspired by her for my 'Wrecking Ball' video, which was what started the whole thing," "I don't know how someone can start a fight with somebody who said, 'Hey, I really respect you. And I really love what you did.' 'You know what? You suck! I don't like you!' That was kind of crazy. But as I said, I'm a big fan of hers, so it doesn't really matter. It's all good."

I think Sinead was acting like a morality policewoman.

"death is not being treated as suspicious" means the reason she died is crystal clear, and that reason had nothing to do with anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 411July 28, 2023 7:33 PM

R411, that phrase could also refer to an accidental overdose.

However, I tend to think it was suicide, too, since she spoke of it so often, seemingly half matter-of-factly, half longingly.

by Anonymousreply 412July 28, 2023 7:38 PM

It was definitely Suicide. There is no doubt in my mind. I pray she really is at peace. ♥️

by Anonymousreply 413July 28, 2023 8:19 PM

R413 Well, she's dead. Nothing exists when one is dead. So, she's not "at peace" just not alive and suffering.

by Anonymousreply 414July 28, 2023 8:21 PM

R414 honestly l, I grew up in a very fundamentalist Church of Christ religious household. We were taught if you committed suicide your soul would never find peace and you would spend the rest of your days in fire and brimstone. Gnashing of teeth and living a tormented afterlife forever and ever.

Load of shit! Damn religion.

So, no it’s just not a “duh” situation.

by Anonymousreply 415July 28, 2023 8:26 PM

R411 - I used to think that phrase meant the deceased had committed suicide. But Paul Cattermole's death earlier this year was described as having "no suspicious circumstances" as well, and it eventually turned out he'd died of an underlying heart condition.

by Anonymousreply 416July 28, 2023 8:27 PM

No offense but even though I truly felt terrible for Sinead now everyone is sanctifying her and treating her every action like correct and right. She still said and did crazy stupid shit. And I'm not going to trash Peter Gabriel because of what an obviously not reliable narrator like her said about him.

by Anonymousreply 417July 28, 2023 9:36 PM

[quote] R413] Well, she's dead. Nothing exists when one is dead. So, she's not "at peace" just not alive and suffering.

I was baptized Catholic, and have in the past few years become more devoted to my faith. Amazingly as I am getting older, my faith has strengthened and believe more than I ever did, in the afterlife

by Anonymousreply 418July 28, 2023 9:49 PM

R417, I haven't read one post here which paints Sinead as a saint

by Anonymousreply 419July 28, 2023 9:50 PM

Her dad, brother and kids are still alive. She seems stable enough. What happened?

by Anonymousreply 420July 28, 2023 9:51 PM

She went through horrific abuse as a child. That damages a person in ways that can never be healed.

I went through severe bullying by fellow students and teachers - not abuse from family and not sexual abuse - and I still carry the scars of that today. It's a miracle she was able to function at all.

by Anonymousreply 421July 28, 2023 9:55 PM

Did sinead's mother really sexually abuse her? Did any other family member ever confirm this?

by Anonymousreply 422July 28, 2023 9:56 PM

R417 No one is saying things in the way you've described.

by Anonymousreply 423July 28, 2023 10:47 PM

by Anonymousreply 425July 28, 2023 11:13 PM

[quote] And I'm not going to trash Peter Gabriel because of what an obviously not reliable narrator like her said about him.

I can believe that he treated her like "weekend pussy."

PG was probably with her when she was at her most beautiful.

PG probably realized that Sinead was too much drama but could not say no to having sex with her.

PG probably realized that their relationship meant way more to Sinead than it meant to him.

I'm not sure whether he was married at the time they had a relationship, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Am I saying she's a 100% accurate historian? No. But I think she accurately summarized their relationship.

by Anonymousreply 426July 29, 2023 12:08 AM

He was not married, R426...de divorced in 1987 and didnt marry again till 2002.....from what I understood he and Sinead dated some time in the 90's.

by Anonymousreply 427July 29, 2023 12:43 AM

What people line Sinead O'Connor don't get about feminism is that it's about women having the choice to do what they want and have the careers they want. Back when Sinead first hit big, she was told she HAD to look a certain way and sell sex to have a career.

I find people who wag their fingers at people because they don't agree with their choices and are actually the worst misognynists when it comes to women being free to do what they want without being told what they have to do.

For UK readers Sky Arts TV channel have the Sinéad documentary on tonight at 9pm.

Thank you, R447, I didn't know that was on.

by Anonymousreply 448July 29, 2023 6:30 PM

Ok, let's get to the important part, did she leave any money?

by Anonymousreply 449July 29, 2023 6:59 PM

She must have had some money, she had her residuals from her music (she wrote a lot of her own material, which is where the money is). She was living in a top-floor newly re-developed apartment in South London, in a what seems to me a middle to upper-middle class area. So, not poor by any means.

There will be some estate to divide, not much by rock star standards but some. She left a minor child behind - her youngest son - so there will have to be provisions made there, foremost.

by Anonymousreply 450July 29, 2023 7:05 PM

Don't know how far back, but she gave instructions to her kids to immediately call her accountant if she died. Smart lass.

by Anonymousreply 451July 29, 2023 7:05 PM

I’m thinking now that it might be suicide.

In today’s Guardian newspaper there is an interview with an ex boyfriend. He talks about the wonderful year they spent together in 97/98. At the bottom of the interview it states the author is donating his fee from this article to Paprus UK suicide prevention.

[QUOTE] Ok, let's get to the important part, did she leave any money?

If you have to ask, then you already know there was little to none.

by Anonymousreply 454July 29, 2023 9:13 PM

Wouldn't there be residuals to be paid on the sale of her music? Well, I'll leave all that up to her accountant but I'm glad to hear there probably won't be some tacky dispute over who gets what (I'm assuming with a professional accountant involved, her wishes were clearly made known).

When her son died last year, she was completely wrecked. Although it's not confirmed, I believe she killed herself - one year to the day her son died.

I often think of her song "Stretched On Your Grave" and how many times she performed it - and if it may have influenced her decision.

Sinead is a legend. Her first album is just brilliant. Check it out. I know she lost her way, but damn - she had a rough life and she tried to warn others and protect people.

‘Sinéad believed me when no one else would and she saw that I was an honest person. If she had not tracked me down I probably would have died or walked into the sea,’ Ms Jackson Craft said.

‘Her kindness and her good heart and the inspiration that she was to me… that she could be so humble having achieved so much and having been through so much and she still had the time to look out for someone like me who she didn’t even know. She saved my life because she gave me a job when I was at the lowest point of my life and she gave me the space and respect so that I could heal my own trauma,’ she said.

[quote]Sinéad’s sophomore album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, came out in 1990. This album title came to her in a dream. So first Sinéad had gone to a medium, and through the medium had spoken to her mother, who’d been dead at this point for a year and a half. And her mother asked for forgiveness, for all the pain she’d caused her children, but Sinéad’s older sister, Éimear, could not forgive her mother. That night Sinéad’s mother comes to her in a dream, and Sinéad says she’s sorry that Éimear can’t forgive her, and their mother just says, “I do not want what I haven’t got.” Because she knew she didn’t deserve forgiveness.

[quote]So that’s the album title, and the last song on the album. The first song on the album is called “Feels So Different.” It is also about her mother.

[quote]What drives this album, and seems to drive the whole of Sinéad O’Connor’s career, is the realization that forgiving someone can feel heavier than not forgiving someone. Or maybe it’s just that her forgiveness will feel heavier to you.

Interesting

The link at r502 is amazing, really. And the stories coming out about her generosity to others, the terminally ill woman and her charity work. It's a shame that wasn't highlighted more often when she was alive.
