There are definitely some posters who don't "get" the collaborative fiction behind characters like the DO. Most understand the character -- he is earnest, naive, pithy, and starving, full stop -- but many do not. They think he should be scolding or guilt-inducing, or expounding on socio-economic forces, class divisions, racism, or geo-political affairs, and that's just not DO. He's just incredibly hungry, and wants to be a part of DL.
